an interpreter is a must have n this class. if you want to pass this class you need to read ahead of time because it makes more sense. she's a nice person, but a bad teacher.
Avoid! Can't understand her....thick accent. Embarresses students in front of class. Boring. Teaches by reading slides. UGH! If you have a question she makes you walk to the front of the class and then doesn't care if anyone else hears so they can learn too. Repeats herself daily about stupid things. Read her reviews under Mission College too.
Attendance is mandatory and the class is way boring but she really wants you to learn and will go over what's on the exams with you beforehand. No surprises. It's a big help. Show up, read the chapters, do your homework and you will pass this class. You can barely hear her so sit up close.
Although she might be an imtimdating professor, once you get to know her she is a nice person. Tests are open notes, she tells what is going to be on test, etc. Follow the rules, ask lots of questions, participate a lot, etc. in order to succeed in her class. It's best to sit in the front. She's strict so it's important to follow directions.
Rock on Mrs. Z !!! This's one of the class to lift your GPA up. By the way, I got A + in her Chem 50, can not believe how easy it was... still wondering ???? :D
She's a Ukranian FOB and the accent is very hard to hear through but she's very nice. Very strict though, especially on attendance and lab reports. However, she always says how Fisher babysits you but she babysits you just as much. She practically does lab reports for you at the beginning of every lab. Just copy it down!
She's a great lab teacher! I had her along with Fisher for lecture. It's hard to hear her from a distance, so sit up front. I like how she goes step by step how to do lab calculations and her review during the midterm. She is helpful and nice, but strict. No quizzes, just turn in a bunch of lab reports and study for midterm and final.
She babies a lot of her students so that they will get the material. Embarrasses you a lot, but you can tell she cares.
This class isn't easy and shes not exactly nice to all the students. But if you do all the homework as it is required and study a little you should do very very very well on the tests. Also try to stay awake in her lectures...it helps!
Don't get intimidated when you first get her, because she tries to scare off everyone. She's very easy; you can use 1/2 page cheat sheet on each test, even though they're already really easy. Easy professor, but she DOES NOT KNOW WHAT SHE IS DOING. She's unorganized and doesn't listen to others when they correct her.
Run. Hard. Fast.
She is completely incomprehensible and tedious. While claiming to spend eight hours preparation for each lecture, its seems to be power point straight out of the book. Online homework that is unreasonably difficult and time consuming. everyone passes because she basically lets you cheat on the tests. also, good luck getting any question answered
If your not patient, don't take this teacher. She does baby her students and her class is fairly easy if you follow everything. She's sometimes ridiculous and very unorganized. Our class had to literally wait 2 hours after our last day of class to turn in our hw, even the ones she already checked before. I couldn't believe it. It was ridiculous.
UNDERSTAND the TEST REview. The class is kinda easy A class. but u have to study by urself and do the damn online HW(waste money). BTW, I think she is better than Calgher cause I cannot understand what Calgher's teaching. So my point is she isnt the suckest.
I wish I knew about this website before I took her class! I got a C in the class but have to take the course over again. You basically have to teach yourself from the book which is hard. i would not recommend her if chemistry is you major.
she is a nice teacher, really helpful and easy teacher. she gives all the instructions for the lab report. if u follow all the instruction you can get full marks for the report. you can still get full mark if you do the experiment wrong. but her voice is soft. better to sit in the front. Also, she always hold the student to 10:30pm
took me a while to get use to her accent.. took it in the summer and it was pretty easy because she sends us the quizzes through email to take at home, which is basically like free points. hw every chapter though.
She was a SUB in my professor's class in two weeks and had me pulling my hair out in that short time. She's rude, irrational, and hard to deal with. God forbid you point out an error in her class! She didn't teach us a formula, and announced in the review we'd be tested on it. She screamed at me when i pointed the error out. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
This is probably the most accurate comment so listen up. Alot of work, but she is one of the chemistry professor where you actually CAN GET AN A+. Why? Reviews = Exams. If you are serious about your education, take her.
the class is not as bad as i thought. professor is unorganized and i was clueless on what grade i might get since she doesn't give back all the tests and lab reports. however, she's definitely not too hard. review is test. at least she's trying her best to make the students understand the concept. ended up with an A! you have to teach yourself!
shes a good person but a bad teacher, forgets things, goes on irrelevant tangents. super easy though, just do hw and attend, its easy points. Test are short and easy. lab is a mess, shes not organized at all, expect to not do the whole experiment. Really sweet.
She is very adorable. She definitey has a passion for chemistry and she wants her students to learn and succeed. Be sure to dedicate at least some time to study. Do the homework problems, and you'll succeed. She's hilarious and always cracks jokes!
AVOID Nice lady bad teacher. You end up having to teach yourself out of text. If you have ?s go to tutoring center. Never once arrived on time or let's go on time. Important announcements 10mins after class ends. Modifies every lab procedure. Treats you like child(no Bunsen Burners). Will get angry if point out mistakes. Epically Wastes class time.
easy quizzes. exam questions come from the quiz, quiz questions come from the homework. BUT I cant understand a thing she says. She refuses to answer any questions we have unless we write our questions on a note and give it to her to read cause she can't hear well, when you give it to her shell tell you to ask her during her office hours instead.
Horrible teacher. She is a nice lady, but she cannot teach. Her lectures are incoherent because of her thick accent, and her work is extremely hard. Take her class and you will be basically teaching yourself the material.
Worst class ever! She is so not clear and I can't understand a thing she says. Her accent makes her lectures unclear. I won't recommend her at all
Teacher keeps you an hour after class. All of her lectures are straight from the book. Spends all the class time giving lecures. Impossible to ask her questions. Quizzes are homework printouts. Do not take unless you absolutely have to. Never be absent. If possible stay under her radar. Worst chem teacher rating for a reason.
She is not a very good teacher and she is unorganized but she is pretty easy so that makes up for everything.
She's is rude, hard to deal with, unorganized. I can't understand her because of her think accent. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANOTHER OPTION.
Goes way too fast. Does not make it easy for you. Horrible accent and is not nice in saving you a few bucks. Makes you spend, spend, spend. Don't take her unless you absolutely have to
Very hard to understand because of her accent. Does not thoroughly explain anything. Must write question on a piece of paper and bring it to her if you want it answered. She is very unorganized and unclear. Take another teacher if you have the choice.
She's really not THAT bad, nice lady, to me at least. Take her if you really need the chem, if not then don't.
worse chem teacher!honestlyher quizzes so far are easy;both from text, yet her teaching way is so weird;when you ask question, must write down on the paper and her voice is extremely low that you cant hear what she says and her assignments unclear, even for the lab professor is too.dont take her, waste ur time. inclass notes are from book
This is for Chem 50 only. I'll be really specific. You'll need to use textbook to teach yourself as she is very unclear. Do all her practice exercise, it is the same problems for her quiz. Do her Midterm/Final study guide, it will be very similiar. I guess I should've put more effort in the lab as that is the one that drop my grade.
Okay so on the FIRST day of class, after she has gone over everything, you will think, she is going to be tough. you need to attend lecture and lab. take notes in class and do the assigned problems both from books and the ones she emails you. Her quizzes and tests are easy. Easy A if you just keep up. Nice Lady cares about students.
Nice Lady. She's tough but knows her stuff. Tests are easy. she spoon feeds you the info. gives an exam review that is basically what is one the test. Cares about her students. Don't act stupid and she will respect you.
THE most stupid teacher ever. You can't hear a word she says and she can't hear a word we say. This results in a hoard of students lining up to speak with her after class because no one heard any of her instructions. If you are waitlisted or trying to add the class, seriously just don't even try. I don't even know how she got her job. fireherplease
Most people will complain about her: not clear, soft voice, confusing, too much work.. GUYS, we are here to study, not on vacation. If your are confusing about something, ask her. Quiz and practice exercise are mean to help pull your grade up. Remember to have enough class notes and LAB notes. Study exam review and u will be fine.
She expected us to work on our own. She is not so clear about everything. Test and quiz are stick to study guide but you have to do all problems from those study guides. She required a lot of things which can make us lose lost of point if you miss some things. PREPARE TO WRITE.
I found this class to be relatively easy. If you do the work and pay attention you should pass with a decent grade. One thing that I found to be an issue was knowing precisely what she wanted from you. Sometimes she was not clear, so I recommend to always ask questions to make sure you do what she requires.
Ridiculous teacher I have ever met in my school life. Force students write down every single word from her power points onto notebooks. Students have to write very fast; otherwise, they will miss information because she moves very fast. She doesn't allow to take photo from her power point's slides. No laptop in her class. Bad verbal English.
She's not that bad of a teacher, her accent could be a bit hard to understand, but I respect her. I was mostly interested in doing the lab work than the lectures and tests. The work isn't that bad, just do the homework, take good notes, and pay attention to the reviews and talk to her if you need any help. I mostly loved working with her in the lab
Absolutely terrible professor. Very rude to students. Second day of class and she ripped a student's scantron in front of the whole class just because it was a brown scantron not green (although she didn't specify which color she wanted till the last minute). Assigns a ton of homework assignments and has lots of expectations. Won't recommend.
Ridiculous teacher. She gives you attitude when you ask her a question. Makes you buy A LOT of unnecessary scantrons for every practice exercise problems that she sends through email--the exercises are due every class meeting along with the homework assignments. She is also very unclear about what she wants.
A lot of homework, she will sent you practice exercises at the night almost 12am, and you only can use GREEN scantron or she will rip it. Have a very strict requirement on laboratory notebook size and appearance, and you need to write down EVERYTHING from laboratory manual to your notebook. Also has a requirement on pens.
Very Unclear about assignments. You have to ask to go to the bathroom. She checks your class notes and your book notes and grades you on them. Talks quietly. The homework is tedious, and the amount of homework is unnecessary . We use about 4 scantrons per week.
Most of the students are lazy. You can't be in any science field doing half-assed work. She wants you to succeed. If you aren't a science major look for easy classes. You will use a lot of scantrons. Tests practices do those and the homework. Got a B+ only due to health reasons. Labs do take a long time though. Ask her for help and office hours!
Very sweet lady. Pretty easy to get an A in her class if you just complete what she assigns. The exam reviews are literally the exams, just with different numbers. She will not challenge you, though. If you want to preserve your GPA more than anything, take her. But If you want a solid knowledge foundation for Chem 1B and 1C, try Muzzi or Gray.
An Easy A+ class. She's a very hard-working teacher. During summer session, she had many sleepless nights to prepare for next consecutive lecture days. She's very nice and giving out similar questions before each midterms. Asking her questions are necessary during her office hours. Her lab is clear and need to do multiple steps in order to succeed.
Partner up with lab teacher Mr. Cihonski. Easy A+ class. Do Not skip class. Go to her office hours to ask many questions. Easy quizzes. If you read textbook carefully, the practice exercise and quiz answer are in it. Lab have multiple steps to satisfy specific requirements. Nice teacher.
She is a super sweet lady. It's easy to get an A+ in this class. Reviews are literally the exams and quizzes are literally the homework. She doesn't really teach much beyond the scope of the book though. If you want a solid foundation for 1B, study the book a lot on your own and take good notes.
She talks really quietly so she in the front and speak loudly because she has a hard time hearing past 2 feet. She takes a really long time to do everything (lecture, going over quiz/test) so you might get bored, especially because you can't hear. It's better if you study from textbook because she has explained things wrong sometimes.
She is very kind and she cares about her students a lot. If you have questions go to her office hours it would be helpful. At first her class may look confusing but as long as you understand her style (book note, class note, practice exercise) you will be fine. Study practice exercises and exam sample for the exams you will get A+, Trust me :)
She is a good teacher if you try. Sit in the front because she is hard to hear and understand. She grades extremely easy. I did horrible on the tests but got As on the labs and homework and I still got an A in the class. Go to class, she does not go over material again. She is a sweet lady and really cares about her students. Just pay attention.
yes its a lot of busy work in this class but if you do it all it pays off. all of her quizzes and tests are built off of her practice problems. so it becomes an easy A. Most people go into the over 100% mark in her class. Boring but worth the easy A compared to other teachers.
Easy to get an A. Participate, do all necessary writings, don't skip the lectures. She doesn't really explains much, but quizzes and tests are very easy. Just don't be lazy.
she is very compromising to some extent but she is not detailed to what she really wants. We have to be really repetitive when it comes to questions. Also she goes over all the answers to the homework, quizzes, and exams. Has a very thick Russian accent, and you basically have to teach yourself each chapter.
Lots of busy work, tons of homework (not difficult but quantity is high), due dates are fairly random. Key things that would help 1)Makes you turn in most work after class hours so have a gap and 2) Shes speaks quietly so sit in front. Other than that try to do as much as EARLY (the second its assigned) as possible and study the practice exercises
Easy A+. Do your homeworks and test reviews and you will be fine!
She's nice and all, but she doesn't really teach at all. She basically just reads off of slides that she gets from the publisher without going into detail. Aside from that, she has a thick Russian accent that makes it hard to understand her even when sitting in the front. If you're good at self teaching you won't have a problem. Just an OK teacher
Quiz after each chapter(5-6 questions, 1 point each), 2 midterms( 25 questions, 1 point each), 2 lab quizzes same as midterms. Grades hw, booknotes, classnotes, practise exercises, participation, prelab, experiments, and postlab. Gives many extra credits and fixes grades.
Easy grader
Bottom line, she's a bit insane. Can barely hear her lecture so sit in the front, quizzes after every ch(6-7 q's each). Book notes, class notes, book hw, & worksheet hw. Her class is extremely easy as long as you follow along & do the hw. Quizzes are almost exactly from worksheet hw/practice problems, same as exams. Would take again bc she's so ez
TERRIBLE! She imitated me when I asked something & told me there was something wrong with me. She whispers publisher-provided slides verbatim; u have to teach urself. Makes u turn in HW during office hrs & won't let you ask questions. Always contradicts herself, everyone is confused & relying on each other. She is not a professor, just has her PHD.
She doesn't take the time to ACTUALLY listen when you ask her a question in class. Each time I asked her a question in class she would hear it wrong, and when I tried to clarify, she'd keep interrupting me thinking she understood me when I barely said a word. She is not very good at explaining things, so it may help if you go to tutoring.
She's very unclear about what assignments are due and when they're due. You have to go to office hours for her to check all your work. She emails homework the day before it's due a lot without prior notice. The class itself is easy once you figure out what and when to turn everything in. She does not teach or explain things well.
Caring person. HORRIBLE teacher. Without a doubt the worst professor I have ever had. She makes you stay 1-3 hours AFTER class to get your work checked. Reads off of slides during lecture that are not at all helpful. The only way you will do well in this course is if you teach yourself. Syllabus is unclear. Due dates arent clear either. AVOID!!!!
she really cares about her students. However, she is pretty unorganized and all over the place. In lab it was really hard to hear her. She is super helpful before tests and will give a study guide and simply change some of the numbers on the test.
Ok, first of all, you will not understand a thing because she speaks for herself and has a heavy accent that you can't distinguish it is mumbling or talking. All you can hear is "Ok". because she says that habitually. Plus broken grammar. I wanted to learn something but I had to drop it because I had a feeling that I will be too stressed out.
Honestly worse experience of my life. Dont take this teacher unless you absolutely have to. Nothing is clear about what is due, whens its due, and even if it is due she wont check it and then give you 0 credit. You have to do ALL the work, and also come in during office hours to turn in any work. Lecture notes, book notes, lab reportsz
Very unorganized and not clear. She changes her mind a lot and tells each student a different thing.
She's hella nice and lets you turn in all your late work if you still have something to turn in at the end of the quarter. At first her accent will confuse many, but you should be in for an easy A if you put work in.
One of the worst teacher I have ever experienced in my entire academic career. After every lab, you are required to show your work from your homework and from your lab worksheets. The catch is that she legitimately takes 30 MINUTES on each student to fully analyze every aspect of the work. You can imagine how long it takes to check every student.
Worst professor I ever had in my entire academic career. Nothing is clear about what is due, and even if it is, she doesn't check it and gives you a 0 for work that you do. Very poor time management skills and claims to have "exceptional memory" but clearly does not. Don't take unless it is the absolute last choice. Be prepared to stay after class
The worst teacher EVER like no joke. i get heated just thinking abt her. She doesn't even deserve a 1 for a rating. you WILL end up staying after class bc i guess she just assumes that people don't have a life after her class? Wastes ours and even HER time bc she does use it efficiently and makes it harder for all of us. Don't EVER EVER take her.
A lot of us were trying to turn in our hw after finishing our exam so we could you know GO HOME esp w all the traffic but she said "nope i'm not accepting. wait outside until everyone's done." she made us wait 30 MINUTES after our class was supposed to END just to turn in a scantron. I'm only on week 4. take that as an obvious warning.
Worst teacher ever. Super rude an unprofessional. Second time having her because she was the only teacher that would work with my schedule. Would NOT choose her again if I had the chance. Wastes so much of everyone's time and you will have to stay after class for your grade.
gives ch. reviews (similar questions to exam) before exam . exams28 MC questions (1h 45min to complete, not enough time IMP). everything related to the section/lab are due the next lecture/lab day after it is complete. not required to read the chapters entirely but you have to if you want a good grade; i didn't and i have 72% grade on week 8.
The overall content of the class isn't hard and you can easily learn it yourself. Except she doesn't teach because her lectures consist of her clicking slide after slide telling you to memorize everything. She always says she can't make decisions and she has to ask her boss/manager but ends up deciding herself anyways.
Spares her time after each lecture/lab so students can get 2 points extra credit on notes per section and also so students can catch up on their assignment submissions (i'm part of the guilt). She's like an uptight strict parent that tells you earn what you work for. Gets snappy if you talk during her lecture so at least whisper or pass notes. 9/10
my C- on week8 (i didn't read textbook for first 8 weeks) turned into a B for result! (cause i think i aced my final!!!) Elena is not someone to not slack with (just like me for the first 8 weeks). When she gives exam/final reviews... DO THEM (and do them again) because they're very similar to the actual thing. quizzes 7 Qs, exams 26 Qs
Lecture wasnt helpful so read textbook & look up YouTube videos for help. She takes role call everyday so make sure to stay for both lab and lecture. Shes a soft speaker, you might want to sit close to the front. Her study reviews werent worth points but she would dock points if you didnt turn it in. Replicates whats on exam so do it!
Lectures are really boring, most of the time you will not understand what she's saying. Use your classmates, they help you better than her. If you ask her a question, she will not understand and will talk about another topic. Labs are three hours and takes a while to discuss them. She is also strict about the labs. Good Luck!
I had to drop this class because I literally could not understand her when she speaks since she is pretty elderly in age + heavy accent. Since I know Chemistry is a weak spot for me I definitely needed a professor whom I can understand. Her lectures aren't really lectures, they are just slides she uses to read off of verbatim.
Attend lectures and lab! She cares a lot about attendance. Her test and homework was extremely easy. The labs were doable, not difficult at all. However, she does not explain things well, and it is difficult to understand her. She talks quietly, so sit near the front of the class.
I took her class online and it was an entire mess. I never once felt like I was learning as she read through slides instead of teaching. She would make everyone show their answer for the same problem into what would turn into a tedious long anxiety inducing process. The labs were just her doing the labs and very much dumbing down every single step
Sat in the first row and me and a bunch of others could not hear what she was saying. She doesn't even answer questions unless you write them down and give it to her at the end of class. Assigns a bunch of work. It's not hard but it is tedious. She also is a pretty lenient grader.
Definitely one of the most annoying professors I've ever had (that's saying a lot). Don't take if you don't have a ton of patience.
Don't really like this professor at all. She doesn't even give us time to write and yells all the time at us for no reason. The material itself is not too bad, but she doesn't even really teach because she just reads off the slides and tells you to memorize everything. Take another CHEM25 class with a different professor if you can.
Definitely not recommend; she is very rude and dismisses any concerns expressed to her. She urges you to ask her questions if you're confused however gets mad when you actually do. Her lectures are lengthy and boring and she reads the slides word for word. You'll end up teaching the course to yourself because she isn't helpful.
She is by no means a bad teacher and is actually really forgiving if you attend class on time. She is a bit older so it takes her a while to get through the lectures, but if you're somewhat familiar with chemistry the class and lab are very easy to get through.
She is incredibly hard to understand and seems to have a very hard time understanding others as well. She thinks she is always right and will scold you randomly. She is AWFUL at using technology so there will be many difficulties and mess ups dealing with her on zoom and canvas. Sometimes she blames those issues on us too.
Pros: -Easy grader -Gives test answers in the lectures -Easy A Cons: -Not tech savvy. Many delays due to this. Prepare to multitask during these downtimes in class. -Takes attendance. Early class times in Zoom, camera on. Not an asynchronous class -Thick accent/a bit hard to understand - You will have to please be patient as she is elderly.
