the class was interesting and she is very intelligent in the field. expect to read a lot and take extensive notes- tests incorporate both of these. make sure you know the main ideas she emphasizes. very friendly.
First day she seemed like she would be hard. Kind of stern looking. Barely took notes. Studied/Read only day before test. Got an A. Decent amount of writing is required for 3 papers though.
Dr. Wedam is an excellent professor. Her tests aren’t very hard; you only need to look over notes. She is open to questions, she even offered to review the material right before the test.
Kind of sarcastic personality but overall helpful, could explain things better
She is a pretty boring teacher, but nice. Her class is VERY easy. I studied hours before her tests and got A's. Ur a moron if u can't pass her class with an A+
She is a very nice lady who wants to help and wants to keep things interesting. However, she isn't always the most confident lecturer, sometimes faltering as she speaks and generally not engaging the class to respond to questions. Still, if you pay attention you will learn something, yet if you only want the easy core course, that works here, too.
She is a nice teacher. She reviews for quizzes right before them, and gives ample extra credit opportunities. Lectures are usually interesting. Not a difficult class.
totally boring. oh my god. just monotonous and mind-numbingly tedious. but really, really easy.
it was an ok class, shes a very sweet lady and was helpful
Dr. Wedam is an awesome professor. I found lots of the material very interesting. She is very lenient with grading and gives lots of extra credit. This is an excellent class to take if you want to boost your GPA.
She has great lectures for such an early morning class. I think it's great how much she knows and cares about sociology. I think she taught very well and is very helpful.
such a sweet lady! and SUPER EASY class! if you want a take an easy core class and higher your gpa, then take this class! i don't know how anyone could not get an A in this class. she reviews right before the test and she offers so much extra credit! take the class. i highly recommend it
Very easy professor. Explains things very throughly. Go to class, take good notes and read the articles from the Reader and you should be set for the exams/quizzes. She gives the class a review before the tests, and basically gives out answers. She gave us over 10% extra credit. I would take her again.
She was a really sweet lady in every sense of the word. Her explained things well in class, making outlines on the board and discussed the topics involved in the readings. Her quizzes are fairly easy if you just read the book and look over notes. Great professor!
good class to learn about chicago. but 2.5 hrs in the afternoon can drag. she is dry at times and sometimes speaks very slowly with long pauses to fill up the whole period. i liked that she brought in lots of guest speakers. hard of hearing though, will have to repeat what you say 3 times and shout.
This class is very easy. [3 tests, final, presentation, paper, participation]. Tests are 15 pts. each and the final is 30 pts. Lectures are completely pointless, but you have to go. She is a very nice lady, but the lectures have nothing to do with the exams (which are M.C.). The exams are strictly from the book. Easy A. 10-15pts. Extra Cred.
It is a required class for soc majors, so you don't have much choice. The class is easy but incredibly boring. She talks so slow and lectures most of the time with high school level material.
She's okay. She's not horrible. She takes attendance. Says "Um" alot (that always bothers me haha). Theres a paper, and then a discussion report on your paper, tests, and final. She offers extra credit if there are sociology speakers coming in or on documentaries. Not a bad class.
Although this class will bore you to death, it is quite easy. I did virtually none of the reading, and only studied exactly what was on the study guide (which generally took me about an hour or so, and I didnt read a single chapter) and managed to get above an 86% on all of the tests. The final presentation is pretty easy-- she gives lots of EC.
Extremely boring class, she says UM way too much, and I dreaded going every day. However, it's easy. I never studied for a test and got at least 87% on all of them. If you have to take a sociology course and don't mind being bored for three hours a week, take her.
Overall, the class wasn't too bad. It got boring at some points but it was an easy class. The material is interesting, but her not so much. THere were 2 or 3 tests, the final, and 3 reports/papers. 2 of those were based on independent field trips. Overall if you want an easy A, take it.
Dr. Wedam is very nice and always willing to help. Just keep up with the readings, go to class, study off the study guides before tests, and maybe do an extra credit assignment to get an A. Class can be boring.
The course itself was not too bad, but her in-class lectures were painfully boring and scattered. That said, take great notes because they really help when it comes time for the midterm and the final. She gives a study guide for those, and if you put in the work, you will be rewarded with a good grade. Take her. But beware. She will frustrate
Most boring person ever. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Painful lectures. Torturous assignments. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR'S CLASS!!
Class is BORING just lectures and notes that don't make sense. If you do the reading you should be fine on the exams, plus she gives a study guide and extra credit that is really easy.
shes NOT a good teacher. shes weird and i didnt learn anything from her class. its borng and totally useless. she is impossible to talk to and ask for help
You do need to buy both books, notes not really used in class but study guide issued and follows book-study guides, reading and alot of easy extra credit for easy A....boring lectures
There is a lot of reading, but if you do it and go to class then you'll get an A. I didn't read and got a low B. She tends to get distracted and her lectures can be boring, but its not intolerable. She is nice, too. There is one project and its pretty easy, a short presentation and a paper. The final is multiple choice.
I was overwhelmed at first and considered dropping the class but after a month, I was glad I didn't. Easy A. For the tests, it is very beneficial to review the vocab in the books. Reading the chapters isn't really necessary, but DO read the articles.
This class was a breeze. You don't need to go too often and Sociology is mostly common sense anyway. Midterms, a paper and presentation make up this class. She'll give you 3 easy extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Wedam is a good professor. She does tend to say 'um' a lot though and it can be a little distracting, but she cares about her students. Show up to class. You'll get an easy A.
i wasn't expecting much from an intro soc class... this woman is like michael scott if he was barely smart enough to get a teaching degree. but she gave me an A even tho i barely went to class b/c i was graduating. nice lady overall just a poor teacher/discussion leader.
terrible, absolutely terrible avoid at all costs
Boring class. She is difficult to listen to with all the um's and uh's. I felt pity for her until she proved she was truly incompetent. Rotten.
Easy A. Her tests were extremely easy and she really cares about you as a person. She isn't the greatest of teachers but she is a nice lady. She tends to say 'um' a lot and throughout the entire semester, my notes accumulated to about only five pages but it's an extremely easy class.
Dr. Wedam's lectures were slow for the most part, but she is a very smart woman. As long as you show up to class and take good notes, you should do fine. There are 4 field trips you have to attend, 2 exams, 4 short papers, and a final "research" paper.
I don't know if she read this site and decided to make a change or what, but Wedam is most definitely not easy. In fact she is pointlessly and incomprehensibly confusing, she grades papers rather harshly, and the questions on her tests are purposefully tricky.
I agree with the comment below mine. I came into this class from recommendations of other students who said it was an easy A. Apparently, not anymore. Her tests can be tricky and she grades fairly hard, especially for a 101 class. Not by any means a blowoff class.
Prof Wedam is a really nice person but she cannot teach. I heard shes a great researcher for the school and thats what she should stick to. She cannot carry a coherent lecture- the class was soo boring. Four field trips, four assignments, 3 exams, 1 final case study. Case study was not structured for a core class- too much to ask for. AVOID
I agree with the two earlier 101 comments. I enrolled in the class because my friends told me it was an easy A. You can't completely slack in the class, but it's not that hard either. If you show up to class (which can be kind of dry) and skim the chapters, you could probably get a B.
I'm not enjoying this class. The teacher is a tough grader, tedious with classroom rules and not very captivating. 2 required texts, 1 field trip, 2 book reports, 3 exams/1 final.
Wedam was a wonderful teacher. She was the first teacher I had that really made the class interesting.I would recommend this class for anyone. The homework load is totally reasonable. More importantly though it was an interesting and eye opening class. Wedam is really great and has a lot of information to share.
Dr. Wedam is a good professor and the class is not hard at all. If you show up to class and copy the notes she puts on the board, you will pass the class. The assignments aren't difficult and aren't that hard. She's really clear and spells everything out for assignments. Also helpful outside of class.
The 2 1/2 hour classes were really difficult to hold my attention. Boring at times. She is nice and informative. Do the work and you'll be fine. Brought in guest speakers and watched a documentary to make things more interesting.
Not the greatest public speaker, so the class could drag. A nice woman, knowledgeable about the topics. There were 4 tests including the final(she always made a study guide), 2 papers (graded fairly), and she usually showed a video or invited a guest speaker to reinforce her lecture. Overall an easy A.
this class is so boring. prof rambles on and doesn't give any useful lectures. i wouldn't come to class if she didn't take attendance. she grades harshly on papers and reading assignments and tests can be difficult and questions are iffy. i am not crazy about this class so i would avoid.
Really easy course - go to class and take notes. Read the book and you'll get an A. the tests are made of material straight from her lectures/the book. good for core.
Her class is just okay. She is really boring and her lectures never seem to connect with her tests. She has a lot of small assignment, but only make up 11% of grade. You have to come to class and she likes to call on people during class. I had to take this for my education major, but otherwise don't take this class. At the end of the year you have
Elfriede is very nice, but a terrible teacher. She has trouble speaking in front of class and it is a struggle to sit through the whole thing. She assigns a lot a of little assignments that account for very little of your grade. She does take attendance even if you think that she isn't (She knows EVERYONE by name). Tests are ok. She gives study gui
Prof. Wedam demands a lot from a 101 course. There are two exams, several reading guides, and the final consists of multiple choice and one short essay including two long essays. She gives study guide questions which are a plus, but in order to do them you must read the ENTIRE book. It's not a hard class, but it's no breeze either.
It is very easy to do well in Dr. Wedam's class. I never read the text book and ended up with an A. Easy 5 point homework assignments, several extra credit opportunities, and gives study guides with questions straight from the test. She's kinda boring but worth it for the GPA booster!!
Class is interesting although sometimes lectures aren't thrilling. The 8, 5 pt assignments she gives are really easy. 2 research assignments which are also easy (she's a very easy grader). Her study guides go right along with the tests. If you know the terms and concepts, you'll get an A. TAKE HER! She's funny and understanding.
LECTURES ARE VERY BORING, INSTRUCTOR IS NOT WELL ORGANIZED AND IS NOT HELPFUL AFTER CLASS( EVEN THOUGH HER CLASS IS SUPER EASY0.WEDAM IS NOT VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND CANNOT ANSWER MANY QUESTIONS, IF SOCIOLOGY IS YOUR GENERAL REQUIREMENT CLASS-TAKE IT YOU'LL GET AN A-DEFINITELY
Really nice lady. Pretty good teacher but a bit scatterbrained at times. I would take her again.
Boring boring boring. She starts class late, is disorganized, and switches topics a lot. Don't expect to get anything out of her lectures. The class is pretty easy but is not enjoyable at all.
I like Dr. Wedam, she is funny and engaging. The class is easy, if you show up and turn the assignments in on time you will make an easy A as many others have said.
Very easy class for the core. Her class can be interesting some days but very boring other days. Her assignments are interesting and her tests are very easy if you complete her study guides.
Very easy sociology101 core! DEFINITELY take her class! Bought the book and never really opened it, her class is very common sense. Standard ppt/note taking class, can get boring, but at times interesting! Don't hesitate in taking her class when available!
Easy A. She does take attendance, but if you just go to class, you will probably get full participation points without ever raising your hand. She is an extremely easy grader. Not very interesting or clear, but if you just want an A, take her. I never did the readings, she covers most of it in lectures.
Nice lady, class lectures were a little dry, but worth it for a GPA boost! Class attandence is necessary, a few short papers, lots of extra credit opportunities. Final was a little of a curve ball but not bad. Bought the hundred dollar book... never had to use it.. But I would not pass her sociology 101 class up if you are looking for an easy A!
Dr. Wedam is nice and the assignments are easy to get A's on if you follow directions exactly. The tests are all multiple choice, there are only two essays, but 4 other written assignments. It's a very boring class, and she doesn't explain things very well. You won't get much out of this class, but it's very easy. You do use the textbook a lot too!
She's super nice and helpful. I will be taking her again.
Extremely kind lady, but seemingly unintelligent about her topic. Inconsistent grader in my opinion. A few pretty easy papers, 2 tests (multiple choice) and a final (not cumulative). Attendance is taken daily and downgrades for no participation. Didn't really learn much, there are better Sociology teachers out there.
Professor Wedam is a nice lady, but is super unorganized and forgets a lot of things. Inconsistent grader and her exams are ambiguous. Her power point slides don't make much sense either and I have no idea what's going on in class with her lectures alone. I have to go and do my own research to understand what is going on. would not recommend
Kind, but losing it a little. She can't hear, so when people do raise their hand she often mishears them and spends a long time answering the wrong question. You need to literally shout to be heard. She's great at what she does but she's not equipped to teach others. Her grading is ambiguous; she offers no feedback. Still, it's not hard to do well.
She is a very nice lady. Tests are pretty easy. The outside assignments consist of readings and papers but they aren't hard or time consuming at all. There are tons of extra credit opportunities so it would be hard for you to fail.
This is SUCH a boring class. I'd rather watch paint dry. Her lectures are hard to pay attention to and she makes you go to a museum in Skokie of all places -_- This is the only class I didn't learn anything in. DONT TAKE!
I was really disappointed with this class. She is not very helpful and you must do things her way in order to get a good grade in the class. There are two tests, a few papers, and some writing assignments. She does offer some extra credit but the powerpoints are not helpful and even if you read the book it doesn't help. I DO NOT recommend.
Great!
I did not enjoy this class one bit, the tests were tough, reading is mandatory, and it seems like if she doesn't like you she will grade your papers on a harder scale.
This class was required for core and it was decent. She struggles to find words to talk about and most of the class is spent her in silence thinking about what to say. She also grades hard and the tests are hard but she gives good study guides. The class is not impossible but I don't like sociology anymore.
If you want to cover the societal core and do not care about sociology at all DONT TAKE HER !! For an introductory class is ridiculously hard. When I took her she was the only SOCL 101 professor that did a final exam. If you love sociology take her, she does know what she talks about and will get you ready for harder sociology.
She's a great teacher if you're willing to work for it. There's extra credit opportunities every now and then. She gives decent study guides for the test, so it's not all bad. She does tend to go off on a tangent sometimes but that's usually because she's big on class participation/group discussions. She's willing to help you if you need it.
Was just OK for sociology 101. She assigns a lot of papers and is a very picky grader. Also, her lectures are very boring because she takes a long time to get through easy material and doesn't facilitate productive discussions. Overall, she is decent, but very dry and uptight. Wouldn't really recommend to a friend.
Always dreaded her class. She has trouble getting her points across & her assignments were always boring & she wanted them written a certain way but does not make it clear. Recommend going to her for help. Her lectures are long & often unimportant because all the info is online in her pwerpnts. She gives study guides which are similar to the test.
Professor Wedam was teaching this class for the 1st time so some bumps along the way were expected, but she continually changed the syllabus, so it was hard to keep up. She very much wanted it to be a discussion-based, but did not do a very good job facilitating the conversation. Overall a nice woman & gives fair grades, just not my favorite class
She is very confusing. Most of what she says in class has nothing to do with the material on tests, quizzes and paper. You have to write SO many papers and she gives basically no feedback on why you got points off. She gives study guides for the tests but the tests have more than whats on the sheet so you don't know to study it.
Dr. Wedam is awful. Her lectures don't make any sense and you basically have to teach yourself everything because she can't complete a thought. I learned nothing from her. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!
I really enjoyed the class. The class consisted of reading books/watching films and writing papers/reflections, and discussions lead by Dr. Wedam or peers. It was a very laid back class, a bit boring at times, but honestly a really easy one. The course itself was interesting and I would take it again.
Dr. Wedam is generally a nice and generous woman but she isn't very coherent, clear, or concise. She is very scatterbrained and doesn't follow the syllabus. If you do the study guides and takes notes you can get a decent grade.
Textbook: I didnt buy and I honestly wish I would've bc theres random stuff straight from the text on the tests (only a little) so the nest grade I got was 88% Attendance: not technically mandatory but she notices and you'll miss stuff that will be on the tests - getting the notes from someone isn't the same! Dont go on phone or computer!!
Professor Wedam was very unorganized and made you do a lot of work outside of class to get an A. She made us pay for one of our grades but did offer lots of extra credit. Definitely a nice woman. Her lectures were not cohesive and were hard to gauge what she expected on assignments. Randomly failed some people without giving a reason why.
Wedam is a very nice individual and does truly care about her students, but she is a very poor teacher. Never goes over anything in the textbook in class, but tests are heavy with questions from them and very little from the actual lectures. Honestly an easy A, but very dry and boring
Professor Wedam is a sweet lady but is always so scattered that it becomes hard to follow what exactly you're learning in class. Her exams are easy and straightforward, and attendance isn't "mandatory" but she does notice if you skip, and she doesn't like laptops and phones out. Not a hard class but boring to listen through 3x a week
Dr. Wedam was a wonderful professor even though she was unorganized at times. Her tests are all multiple choice and super easy if you read the textbook. There were a few projects/papers that required some effort, but they were interesting and she did not grade very hard. The class material is very interesting and she often encourages discussion
Dr. Wedam is a very kind woman, but she is extremely scatter-brained. Her tests are multiple choice and cover material not talked about in class. As long as you read the textbook, you shoud be fine, though. The few projects aren't too much work and she's clear about what she wants. Don't expect to get things back quickly. LOTS of extra credit.
Dr. Wedam was perfectly nice but had the longest rambling lectures. It was often hard to sit through with not a whole lot of depth in topics that are commonplace. She gave multiple choice tests on arguable sociological concepts and was unclear about the expectations and grading of the papers she assigned. I wish I had skipped class more.
Dr. Wedam was one of my favorite professors! I loved her ability to speak about her personal interests and relate them to our weekly readings. I highly recommend her for a higher level sociology course!
Absolutely awful as a professor. Not helpful in the slightest and disregards many of the present social issues because they don't align with her own beliefs. Don't bother taking her.
Her lectures are so boring. She grades way to harsh on assignments. Required to turn in all material in person. Lecture notes must be hand-written, doesn't allow any computers in class for note taking and doens't post lecture notes.
Dr. Wedam is very nice but, her lectures are awful. Very scatter brained and it's hard to understand what she's trying to get across. Her tests are super easy though. I got away without doing any reading. If you do take her class, don't feel bad about skipping.
She is hard to follow in class, she's clearly not all there. She has good intentions but she is not as good as she used to be. Her syllabus isn't even clear and she doesn't even know what she writes on it because if you follow any guidelines she gives you, you're still doing it wrong. She is forgetful, loses papers, can't even finish her thoughts.
such a boring class, and her exams were so confusing also whatever she talks about in the lectures are not on the exams. being in 50 min lectures feels like a year. she gives no good feedback, she grades harsh and you do now know what she wants. I do not recommend her at all.
She is very passionate about her topic, but tends to ramble on about certain things, which doesn't allow enough time for everything in the syllabus. We barely followed the syllabus through the semester, and students had to remind her that exams are coming up. Overall a very friendly person, but I would not recommend taking a class with her.
I enjoyed coming to sociology class because it was a nice break from my STEM classes. Dr. Wedam is a very good professor who is very passionate about sociology, which made her lectures more interesting. The overall class was based on small assignments, a few big projects, 2 tests, and lots of EC opportunities! I would recommend her to anyone !
Tests were easy if you did all the reading. Grades very well on essays if you put in the time, effort, and motivation into them.
You can tell that she really cares about her students and her class, BUT it kind of seemed like she wasn't 100% sure what she was talking about sometimes. This class was just lecturing, so it got boring really easily. However, she's really nice, and will help you if you have questions. So if you're okay just sitting though lecture, go for it!
Dr. Wedam can be disorganized but the class itself is not too bad. There are a couple of writing assignments that aren't like traditional essays and one presentation. Her grading can be unpredictable. There aren't too many assigned readings. For the exams, you just need to know the vocabulary from the lectures and you'll be set.
I took this because my LC required it, but I really feel like I didn't learn anything. Topics were so surface level and thus uninteresting. Prof Wedam is as unorganized as people suggest; I had to e-mail her 4 different times just to remind her to give us the assignment. One time she put it up 3 hours before class! It's certainly an easy A though.
5 papers, 2 exams + final, many pdf readings, lectures aren't helpful or recorded so you have to read the textbook to understand material, we also watched a video or 2 and they would be on the exams. Tangents in lectures and presentations don't help, really nice person though
She tends to ramble on and it's an essay due every week , and I mean every week. You aren't gonna really learn much, and she never puts grades in , so we have to wait till the end of the semester to know if we fail for passed.
She's a pretty good professor overall. Friendly, passionate, and a decent grader. But, she seems rather disorganized at times while lecturing. Obviously a very intelligent person and loves what she does. The assignments are not bad at all. Tests are multiple choice (know the vocab!!), no quizzes. Pay attention and read the text and you'll be fine.
Professor Wedam was a decent teacher. She doesn't post her PowerPoints online so you need to take good notes in class, but can be hard sometimes because she goes fast. Would often go on tangents. Overall presented the material well, but very dull.
She is a good professor and understands the difficulty of students, but she crosses some lines. I took her SOCL221 life course class and i was unable to attend class a few times and I emailed her a reason why, thinking that it would be private, but then next class she asked me, in front of everyone, how my hard time was going. didn't feel good
Dr. Wedam is a passionate, open minded, and caring professor! Does not post powerpoints on Sakai, but super flexible with assignments and understanding situations. She may address private issues send via email in front of people, so I would discuss these things privately in person with her. Read textbook, 3 tests, 5 essays. Enough work, great soul!
Disregard these salty past reviews. Dr. Wedam is a great professor and extremely knowledgable, Loyola is lucky to have her. She takes her time to think about what she will say, and she invites impactful guest speakers as well. She really cares about teaching. Once again, she's a great professor.
The lectures are really boring because she gets side-tracked a lot in class and doesn't really explain things very well. Papers are easy enough but exams are impossible to study for because she doesn't really teach and then throws random info onto the exams. Only take if there's no other option.
For her tests, DO NOT only use the study guide, a lot of the content is in the textbook. That said, while all of the classes are basically just lecture, the most important thing is to read the textbook and any other sakai readings. She's a chill professor and really encourages participation.
She's always late and has the audacity to be taking attendance and marking us off. She lost the paper I handed in and will not fix my 0 or communicate either. There are papers with no rubrics, distracting powerpoints that are not posted on Sakai, and long study guides that aren't like the test. She ruined sociology for a lot of us so avoid her
Be sure to read textbook and know vocab for exams, study guide isn't enough. Class is all lecture, but lectures are kinda useless and boring. Essays/homework are very easy, there's just a lot. She doesn't really explain things that well and get's distracted. Exams are all over the place. She did round my B+ to an A- without me asking with is nice
awful. i can't say anything worse about this professor. completely completely COMPLETELY unprofessional and extremely unorganized- most of the class stopped showing up because it was such a waste of time. barely put any grades in, and put one of my grades in for spring semester into sakai in AUGUST. do not take her class.
Professor Wedam is a very inspiring person who truly has a great passion for the subject she teaches, it's just the way she decides to teach is the problem. Claims you have to read chapters in the book but never assigns and hard to know where we are/what is being studied. Sometimes lectures make absolutely no sense. Homework is easy though.
Dr. Wedam is clearly very intelligent, but her teaching/lecturing style is infuriating. Her lectures are useless (about half of the class doesn't show up), and exams are over only the textbook. Don't take her if you don't have to.
Dr. Wedam is so sweet, genuinely seems like a kind woman who cares about social issues. That being said I cannot stand her class and would never that it again. Like I'd travel back in time if I could I promise oh my god. Never had a professor speak so much and say nothing of substance(exam-wise) Just read the book for real. Her study guides are..
My only complaint is that she doesn't post the lecture slides online and is very against technology (so no phones at all) everything else is fine, it's easy to get an A on assignments and there aren't that many papers. The exam is a mix of textbook material and common sense questions.
This professor does not believe in using laptops in class, and does not post the lectures online. Barely responds to emails and seems to go on tangents every single class. The tests are not based off of the study guide, and I received little to no feedback on my papers and was graded very harshly off of a rubric that was not explained in class. Eek
Wedam was problematic, no email answer for weeks or none. Rejected my disability, saying only the elderly had hearing loss. Thought I lied. Constantly made insulting remarks about black people, justifying them with sociology vocab. Discussed "conservative oppression" in the US and white people's unique obstacles, which no one else understood...
Avoid her class; other than her racist and xenophobic lessons, she does not lecture on any actual content. The final was difficult and covered things we had never discussed or read about. The material came out of thin air. She is not flexible whatsoever and rude most of the time.
Does not allow laptops to be used during class, and also does not post her slides. She is also very particular on specific things that she is looking for on essays which can cost you a lot of points. Tests questions are often a lot harder than the material that was covered. Makes a pretty easy class unnecessarily difficult and not fun.
She should not be teaching at this point in her life. Such boring lectures and assigns random exams that cause stress in her students. Not a fan.
I can't express how much I dislike this professor. I am learning absolutely NOTHING and I'm stressed because I am getting tested on material I haven't been taught and I am expected to learn it myself. She is also racist and believes all women should work from home in the kitchen. Her traditional ideas are insulting and upsetting.
Do not take this professor. Her exam review guides do not reflect what is on the actual exam. SHE DOESN'T POST HER POWERPOINT LECTURES ON SAKAI. You can't even look back at the material you have learned in the class to help study. She is a nice and genuine person, but she can't teach a course effectively. 1/2 class got less than a C on last exam.
She's literally out of it. Half of our class time is spent watching her be confused. Really regret choosing a class with this professor and never will again. I have never been so bored in my entire life....
I can't believe she makes Sociology 101 so difficult. It's actually ridiculous. Her comments on papers or media reports are harsh and unhelpful. If you study hard, do the papers and the reports, you won't necessarily get an A. NEVER TAKING THIS TEACHER AGAIN!!
Easy grader, can get boring but her class is an easy A. Attendance isn't mandatory but she does it. A lot of people don't enjoy her class, but she's not a bad professor. I enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this class. It is very important to talk in class and develop thoughts on the topics, which will help your papers be good. The expectations for the papers were not crazy at all. Very easy to do well in this class. I felt I learned a lot about societal issues in this class.
This course is not a writing intensive, but we still had to write 3 5-page papers, 4 2-page, and 1 10-page final. The class overall lacked structure, and I often did not know what to expect coming into class.
Don't waste your time with this professor. Her lectures are confusing, and the exams cover content you never even learned. Definitely use Unstuck AI and the textbook to supplement this class - it's the only way to survive.
I honestly don't know why her reviews are so low. She was a great professor, we did have 5 pg essays but she provided clear outlines on them. Tons of extra credit opportunities as well. Before every test she gives you a study guide and if you use that and make a quizlet, achieving an A will not be hard. I enjoyed Dr.Wedam and would take her again.
her lectures are confusing and dont have a clear structure. her instructions for assignments are a bit hard to follow and its unclear what she wants half the time. shes nice but just hard to follow. theres 3 papers, 2 quizzes, 3 exams, and some ec opportunities. easy class overall to pass, just annoying
This professor was quite rude to students and didn't see us as adults. Tests and quizzes were easy, but there was barely any feedback when it came to papers. wouldn't be my first choice...
Professor Wedam is a nice and thoughtful lady, they say she is a slow grader, and lectures on stuff not related to class, but in my experience she shared a lot of experiences from her as a professional to lecture, and encouraged you to help on research and investigate further on topics. Her class was fun and she is an honest communicative person.
Wedam gave very dry lectures. Lots of work was expected outside of class, and as someone who has taken many engaged learning classes, it was an abnormal amount of hours required. She makes snarky comments, was rude in general, and going to class felt like a chore. do NOT take this professor. Loyola has many better SOCL professors.
She is the worst professor I have had at Loyola and I am about to graduate. VERY inconsiderate with how she approaches very sensitive topics, inconsistent grader (she forgot to post 3 assignments), and coursework is unstructured entirely. Do not take her.
Wedam was fine. Her lectures were kinda boring but sometimes it was an interesting topic. She had pretty easy writing quizzes. Multiple choice exams (just review the material). A few papers and short Media Reports. Worst part is she's anti-tech, so paper notes in class. I liked her guest lecturers. Wouldn't take again, but not horrible.
Other SOCL 101 courses with different professors will get not even a quarter of the amount of work that Dr. Wedam gives. She makes you complete projects that are worth a good chunk of your overall grade but won't grade them for months on end. She's also very insensitive when discussing certain topics. She doesn't allow laptops. Don't recommend.
She is person, but very blunt; we discuss delicate topics such as race, and she just drops insensitive bombs. And while it is understandable to a degree, she needs some more tactfulness. Tests and quizzes are relatively easy but are not based off directly off of the readings. Do not buy the textbook, rent it out instead. I've never used mine.
Kind and understanding, eats down with her vintage outfits and caring smile. Her class is divided between the lectures and the readings, tests are only based on readings. Very easy class, and a lot of good topics of debate and sociological understanding. Papers are quite easy, and the work is minimum. Would reccomend and I would take it again.
attendance is not actually mandatory. graded on a few easy quizzes based on readings that she gives, essays, and tests. lecture is SO boring but if you read the textbook the exams r easy and you don't need to listen to lecture
Wedam is mostly nice, but seems to lose her head about things a lot. Grading is always messed up, but I think that's mainly her TA's fault. If you have a problem with a grade you got, she is open to hearing your input and will often change it! Just don't forget to keep reminding her about it. GIVES EXTRA CREDIT!!
Prof Wedam was such a caring lady. Her lectures do drag but even though she says no technology, many people do other work for classes or watch a movie. I barely paid attention raised my hand a couple of times and got an A. She just wants her students to talk to her and she is a very understanding professor to talk to after class. Easy A take her!!!
She was okay at teaching the coursework, but there were multiple times where either what she said was racist or she tried to shush students with opposing ideologies. We did an activity about deviation where she basically said slavery is okay and we can't apply today's morals to past events. Don't agree with her or her attempt to push ideology
