Love her she helps you out so much and gives extra credit. Test are not too bad and Hw is graded for completion.
291 is a tough class but she makes it easy.
Most unclear and impossible material. Can't avoid for 300 but would never take her class again
Horrible professor. She gives me a formula sheet for all the mid-terms but not the final when it's needed most. Great thanks.
Worst professor I have ever taken in my college career. She has never taught a class before 300 so it's clear she is the one who wrote her own 291 reviews. Avoid at all costs. She's a very nice lady but has zero idea how to deliver the material to her students.
AVOID! she wrote her own 291 reviews. Makes class unnecessarily hard. Won't let you miss an exam or make it up. Doesn't give enough times on exams. Hard to understand. PASS sessions are the only way you'll pass this class with her. Attendance is a grade.
Compared to the other COB291 professors she is by far one of the best. She does not allot enough time for her tests and your answers must be exactly how she wants them. She offers some extra credit and that will go towards bumping your grade up at the end of the semester. Just get on her good side and put in some work and you'll get a B- (thats ok)
There was no extra credit. She didn't explain things well at all and when you went to her office hours they weren't helpful. She gave hard tests that couldn't be finished in time and took off a lot of points on stupid things, some didn't even make sense. She was bad at explaining, just a bad experience.
Professor Torabi is a solid professor for 291. She is very reasonable with her grading but her tests are kinda long for only 50 minutes. She is also one of the nicest teachers i've had here so far and is very accessible outside of class. I would definitely recommend killing the first two tests because the last two are much harder.
Prof Torabi is definitely one of the better professors out there for 291, which is a hard class to begin with. If you take the time to go to her office she will help you! She takes attendance each day and posts the lectures online, along with all of the handouts. I had a pretty good experience overall!!
Worst professor Ive ever taken. Unclear on everything, confusing wording. Has trouble solving her own problems. Will constantly teach you incorrect things and then penalize you for doing what she taught. If you get her in COB 300 change your major
Worst class. Reads directly off of powerpoint. Tries to solve problems in class but can't. Messes up your test grades. Quizzes every week. Tests are difficult. Accent. Nice lady but not a teacher. Doesn't know what she is doing. Lean attendance policy was nice. Doesnt know operations for the business plan and will provide no feedback from the draft
Torabi is really nice lady but a terrible teacher. She doesn't know what she's doing and the tests are ridiculously confusing. Be prepared to fail most quizzes and exams. The average on our first test was a 60% and she says that is good. I am confusion.
Weekly quizzes, youll fail half of them. Reads word for word off PowerPoints for lectures. Gets confused and gives wrong information when doing practice problems. Has an accent that isnt too bad accept for on the tests, expect grammatically incorrect and extremely confusing questions, cant tell what shes asking. AVOIDE AT ALL COSTS.
The tests are very difficult but she allows a cheat sheet (not very helpful sometimes) weekly quizzes and she drops the lowest 3. Do the extra credit! That will help your grade a lot! Sometimes she does get confused when going over some practice problem in class but overall she is an average professor. Overall, this is a hard class so study A LOT!
Torabi is a nice lady but she is not a good professor. She doesnt teach the material, doesnt provide answers to practice problems/does practice problems wrong in class, tells you to put things on a cheat sheet then puts none of those things on the test, first test average was a 60 all other ops classes had 80+ averages. Just an all out struggle.
Test problems are worded super long and complicated to trip you up and always with a twist (V different from hw practice). She always seems to want to deduct a ridiculous amount of points for things that don't matter. She thinks free response gives more partial credit, but get one thing wrong and she'll deduct every point that question is worth.
Torabi doesnt know the material. She confuses herself, then wrecks you on the exam. She is a nice woman, but a horrendous professor. Avoid at all costs. She will do you no favors by going to office hours. She cant explain anything any better, and youll probably still fail most things.
Dr. Torabi is a very sweet lady who cares about her students. COB291 is a tough class but she makes it bearable with her humor. You definitely have to work for the grade though and its a tough one.
291 is super hard. Torabi is nice, but her tests are nothing like the problems she does in class. Good amount of people dropped out or will fail. Have to get a 65 to pass, which is a D. Don't expect her to curve or care about you getting into COB 300. Try to get Novoa or Lamsal
Torabi is one of the best professors for 291. The class is extremely hard so regardless everyone struggles. She cares so much about her students and gives tons of feedback. You get to keep your tests to use to study for the final. She is a hard grader but breaks the tests up so you can get credit on each question. 100% one of the best choices
291 is hard no matter what but Torabi is at least nice and does a decent job at explaining stuff. Her tests are super hard so make sure you do a ton if practice and go to as many office hours as you can. Its not impossible but if you skip class or dont pay attention youll be very behind.
Dr. Torabi is a very nice person but her tests are so much harder than the material she goes over in class. Her office hours were always soc packed that you would only get minimum to no help whenever you went. Class is very difficult regardless of the teacher, but Torabi definitely makes you grind more than the others. Doesn't offer PASS either.
3 tests each worth 20% of grade and final is 28%. Tests are much harder than anything covered in class and usually contain something we haven't covered. I will say she is probably one of the nicest professors Ive had and she will help you no matter what. I finished with C-, still got into 300, so just get the grade you need and be done with 291.
She lies, cheats and plagiarizes, don't take her class. We are taking legal action to get her removed from JMU. She is foolish can't speak English, don't know anything and told the class she was too hungry to explain our question.
Torabi is an extremely pleasant person who is clearly very intelligent, I know she means the best. However, she is not suited for teaching. Her lectures and assigned problems do not prepare you for quizzes or exams. Lectures are confusing and she spends too much time talking about unrelated topics.
Extremely unqualified to teach this class. She always confuses herself and has to get corrected by the students she is supposed to be teaching. Makes the material way more confusing than it needs to be. Pretty sure she gives out random test grades.
Worst professor I've had throughout my entire educational career. Lacks the necessary abilities to effectively lead a class. Following lectures, I never felt I received educational value or substance.
Sucks! There is no other way to put it. I have yet to see a teacher worse than her. She does not explain anything. She thinks the universe revolves around her and just talks about random things incoherently.
Worse professor ever
Cant teach a class effectively because she focuses on the things that wont matter on the exams or anywhere else, aside from that, what she does teach doesnt make sense because she just puts numbers on a paper. Doesnt make time for students.
Do not take her for Operations. You can follow the study guides, do all of the practice problem, and go to office hours (which is not helpful) and still fail the test because she makes up random stuff from left field. Our second test average was extremely low and she made no effort to address to help us to prepare for the final.
Dr Torabi is vey nice with a lot of knowledge in her field, but what she lacks is the ability to teach. She explains concepts incredibly fast bc they seem easy to her but no one else understands it. She lacks all of the necessary qualities to teach a rigorous course like Operations and COB 291. Standing on 81 is a better alternative than taking her
While I did well in this class, it was not due to the professor. During the first few weeks of class, you review probability and stats. It was clear after just four classes that she could not teach... not even a little. Thankfully, attendance was not mandatory so I am still alive to write this review, and I could spend class time teaching myself :(
The worst teacher you will ever have at JMU. Talks herself into circles during the lectures and then gives you a test on something you've never seen before. The school does nothing to hold her accountable though so take this class and just pray for a C. I made an account just to write this review too.
Seriously, I don't know why Dr. Torabi has such a low score. This was my second time taking COB291 (the first time I failed!!) AND I AM SO GLAD I GOT HER. She was always so kind to all of her students and such a mom, I felt like I could go to her with any question. Sure the tests are hard but if you study like you want to pass you'll be fine.
I havent even finished her class yet and I already dislike her enough to share my comments. Torabi means well but shes extremely unorganized and scatterbrained. You can try to teach yourself the class but its still cancerous to figure out what shes trying to explain. If there were negative stars on this app I would use them. Goodluck if u get her.
Dr. T is so nice and really wants to help students. Her exams are really hard, and you will definitely need to study for them, but she is very willing to help. As long as you do really well on exam 1 (the easiest), you can do worse on the other 2 and come out with a B or low A.
She was always really nice whenever I met with her and is willing to help students but meeting with her outside class is necessary to pass. Her class requires a lot of practice and time to do well. She uses TopHat which mirrors her lectures and is super helpful. I didn't usually go to class bc she posted lectures which was helpful as well.
Dr. Torabi is not fit to teach. She has a hard time relating to students. She is constantly clustered and unprepared. I certainly hope the department looks into her and her ability to teach.
Torabi is very flustered and stumbles on her words. During lectures, you can expect her to lose her train of thought consistently, and ramble about unrelated topics. Hopefully JMU reconsiders her or she takes time to make her lectures more clear and relatable.
Torabi is very kind but her class is extremely difficult. You have to complete weekly chapter readings, required 2 hrs of TopHat lectures (both with required questions) before you even have your weekly in class lectures. She is helpful one on one but without office hours I wouldn't understand material, as she is really scatterbrained
Dr. Torabi is an extremely nice person and cares so much for all her students. Her class is hard, but if you do her practice problems, read the textbook, and attend lectures you'll definitely get a B or above. She is always willing to help and makes herself very personable.
DO NOT TAKE this professor for COB 291. Her class is so hard test are impossible. Three test and four quizzes test averages where below 75 every-time, with the final average being below 65%. Very nice lady but class is SO HARD DO NOT TAKE.
In her class right now, she is unfit to teach. She constantly corrects herself as she does problems wrong. She moves at a SUPER slow pace, hard to follow, does not clearly explain things to students. Her class materials and canvas and TopHat are scattered and unorganized.
She moves at a SUPER slow pace, hard to follow, does not clearly explain things to students. Her class materials and canvas and TopHat are scattered and unorganized.
If you get her for COB, good luck. She constantly gets flustered in class and has to be corrected by students while doing practice problems. It is a horribly executed flipped classroom. She is very helpful for the business plan, but as far as teaching goes she was a nightmare. I'd rather lie down on I-81 than go through this class again.
I know Torabi means well but she constantly will go off rambling about nothing and mumbling, often gets confused with her own material (needing to be corrected over and over) which makes it very confusing to learn anything that she specifically tries to teach. I don't want to bash her because she's very respectful, but she really sucks at teaching.
It's hard to be too harsh because Torabi is very nice and cares about her students. She tries to make the material and tests easier, but it is hard to pay attention in class and she does not always explain the material well. She is very accessible outside of class and was a great help with the business plan. You could have much worse for COB300
I had Elham over this last semester. Yes, she's very nice. No, she can not teach. Heres are some numbers for context: Test 1 mean 63, Test 2 mean 66, Final mean 61.4. Average grade in class 75, high of 92.5(No A's this semester). My advice is, don't waste time going to class, use that time teaching operations to yourself.
I'm so sorry if you get the misfortune of having Dr. T. While she is a sweet woman, she's a horrible professor. Her idea of a flipped classroom is doing all the work and learning outside of class while she wastes your time in class. Test 1 and 2 are similar to quizzes and practice, but the final is really hard. Please study hard and practice!
Shes respectable and caring but horrible at teaching. Exam problems arent like any taught in class.
Honestly the worst professor I have ever had, I'm not sure how she even has a pHD. If you ask questions when you are unsure, 99% of the time she won't know the answer. She is a very nice person but doesn't prepare you for tests like she should. Tests are nothing like the review and prior quizzes, DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Horrible teacher. When she "teaches" in class she has no idea how to do the problems and needs the students to correct her on every problem. Tests are not even comparable to what is gone over in class so good luck. JMU needs to find actual operations teachers that know what they're doing. Final was impossible and didn't even disclose the average.
Dr. T is really good at teaching the material, especially compared to the first professor I had for this class. Her tests are VERY hard, but she explains everything you need to know. I was terrified when I read all the negative reviews on here, but Dr. T isn't nearly as bad as they will make you believe. Just do your best and she'll help you out.
This Professor does not know how to teach and expects you to actually learn from her. The tests are much harder than they should be and she gives very little curve when the average on the test is in the mid 50s.
The WORST professor I have ever had at JMU. This class is hard on its own but she made it impossible. She would constantly have to be corrected by students while teaching and had no idea what she was talking about. On the tests/quizzes, there would be spelling and grammar errors that made it hard to understand what the question was. DO NOT TAKE HER
If you want to learn anything do not take her. She is the worst professor I have ever had. Don't take her if you want to pass 291.
Dr. T was the best professor i have had at jmu so far. i took her for 291 in the summer and even though it was a tough class, she was more than happy to go through everything all over again in office hours and answer every question i had. if your willing to put in the work and ask for help you will do fine
Worst professor I have ever seen. Her grading system is weird and the exams are hard. Told me I may need to retake this class again next semester if this is my first time taking this class. So speechless! I just asked her questions that I didn't understand. I have no idea why she told me this instead of teaching me. It was a very bad experience.
She is one of the worst communicators ive ever had as a teacher. While she is a nice person and claims to care about students, she does an awful job communicating when things are due, where problems are, or what textbook to use ( she uses 2 which makes no sense and doesn't tell you what problems are in what textbook). She is awful.
Don't be scared based off of these reviews. Ops has really hard material so you need to put in the work. If you go to class and pay attention to the examples she does you'll be fine. Dr. T is one of the most charismatic professors I've had at JMU.
Avoid at all costs
While she is very nice, she is a very poor teacher, tests are nothing like practice material and her lectures are just 3 year old YouTube videos
Dr. Torabi was a great person. However, she taught the class in a very confusing way for me. It was hard for me to wrap my head around lectures and practice problem solutions. Be prepared to teach yourself from the textbook, for I relied heavily on the textbook. Conceptual topics are easy, but the computational topics are very tough.
She is friendly but loves to hear herself talk. She speeds through lectures so quickly that students tend to need to correct her on calculations. She doesn't have any idea of how students are responding to the material. You probably will need to teach yourself. I would avoid.
Horrible professor, terrible at explaining topics. Dropped my morale to a new low. Good luck if you have Torabi
this is a difficult topic. the teacher is unorganized and beats around the bush, if you have her you'll pass but with understanding and learning the topics your screwed.
I thought that these reviews were dramatic when I moved forward with Torabi as a professor, they were not. She's kept her online teaching style, which results in doing more work outside of class than just showing up for a lecture. In class, she's unorganized, and doesn't even go through full problems, its better to just teach yourself. Avoid.
"This course dropped my morale to a new low." Is a common saying in COB 300 and Dr. Torabi perfectly encapsulates this saying. A professor as abysmal at Torabi is the reason why over 35% of students going to the counseling center ARE BUSINESS MAJORS. She rambles for no reason about how "she doesn't understand poor people" get ready to teach urself.
Torabi is a very nice person outside of class, and I would often have conversations with her about things other than operations. However while in lecture, I don't think I understood a single thing she was doing all semester, and ended up "learning" by cramming things onto my cheat sheet the night before the exams.
This is a hard class which is why I think she gets a bad rating but she's very understanding and nice, its going to be difficult no matter what prof you get. To be successful you need to read the text book and do top hats. She does all she can to help students get their grade up. If you go to her for help she is more than willing to help you.
Good luck bro
avoid at all costs. very nice woman but CANNOT teach unfortunately! my class got less than 20% on a question on an exam and she didnt drop the question!
Although this class, no matter what, is quite challenging, Dr. Torabi is just amazing. She is always willing and able to explain things in a clear and concise way in her long office hour availability every week. The homework assignment example problems really help prepare for quizzes and exams. Show up to office hours and study a little every day.
Dr.Torabi is one of the best professors I've had. She is a tough grader but if you go to her office house and get to know her, she will help you out and do what ever it takes for you to pass her class with a good grade. She is a COB300 professor so she tries to correlate things with COB300 and she sets you up for success in COB29 and COB 300
Nice woman, but she just doesn't understand how to teach. It's a tough topic, and she does not communicate very well, so a lot of the time you have to try to follow along and go back to understand. 2 tests worth 15% each, comprehensive final worth 30. Not the worst option in the world, but try to take someone else if possible.
Torabi is nice, but overall offers little supplemental material, and her lectures get very confusing and are low energy. In addition, she only has 2 exams so each is weighted heavily. Relying on the textbook to pass this class.
Avoid at all costs. This professor will ruin your entire semester. I completed this course last year and still have nightmares about Torabi. Difficult exams that do not correlate with anything you've been taught in class. Her lectures are a nonsensical yap session.
If you get stuck with Dr. Torabi for COB 300, I am so sorry. Her lectures are so hard to follow because she uses generated slides that she obviously did not look at before class. The exams are extremely difficult and unfair, and although you get a cheat sheet, it doesn't help in the slightest. Seriously, good luck.
Overall, a nice lady, but when it comes to teaching, you would expect to find her at your local community college. Professional treesh. Do not waste your money. I would even consider changing colleges because of how horrendous this final exam was. 30%, I mean 30% of your grade is a test where half the questions she doesn't know the answers herself.
She is a very nice woman but she cannot teach 300 operations. For the most part of class, she would just ramble on about something that wasn't related to the material covered. She gives study guides but the materials on the test were not related to it. She made a part of my plan and then said it was wrong. I have no clue how she can teach at JMU.
Torabi is a really nice teacher and makes a lot of time for her students. Class attendance is not mandatory, tests are somewhat difficult. She is a bit of a rambler and goes off topic at times. If you want to succeed in this course, prepare to do a good amount of learning on your own time.
Shes a nice person, but anything ops related she is terrible. Her lectures are so unorganized. The final was absolutely ridicoullous, with half the stuff not on the study sheet. If you have her your kinda screwed. Im ok but she really should have mentioned that your 80% not counting the BP needs to be 60% or fail.
Torabi was very disorganized and often seemed confused in class. She was a very tough professor to learn from and gave us very little to practice from during classs. Her final was 30% of our grade and it was unfairly difficult. She was once an hour late to her office hours and did not give us prior warning. If you have her for ops, I wish you luck.
Very caring teacher and really cares about students and their mental health, however as a professor she was extremely disappointing. Her lecturers were her reading off the powerpoint's and it felt like she learning the material as she went. The final was completely unfair and she did a horrible job preparing students for the final exam.
I never take the time to rate a professor here however, Torabi did it for me. She is the most disorganized professor I have ever met! I dont even think she knows what she is teaching in class because the students have to tell her that her answers are wrong. SHE IS NOT QUALIFIED TO TEACH THIS COURSE
Torabi doesn't take the time during class to cover the material that is on exams. Homework isn't relevant to the questions asked on exam. Canvas isn't used properly. Many assignment aren't posted with correct due dates. Overall she is extremely disorganized an inadequate lecturer.
I love her to death, but man she's a rough teacher. You're better off just reading from the textbook. She is really disorganized in class but she cares a lot about the students. Go to her office hours for the 300 project, she will basically do the operations by herself. Final made up 30% of our grade and we've only had 2 tests that were 15% each.
Absolutely terrible, avoid at all costs if possible. If not possible, talk to her, get her to like you. Tests are nothing like study guides, and even with cheat sheets, she had to curve the final, which was 30% of grade.
went into final with a B in the class and then ended with a D+. Final is 30% of your grade which is so annoying since she is an awful professor. NEVER missed a class and she is no help. She says a lot without saying anything. Writes on the board but has THE WORST handwriting. super sweet lady but the worst professor I've ever had. Good luck!
Bad. Really Bad.
The most unfair final ever created. When she was making the final I imagine she was saying “oh, yeah, let me put this math scenario with 4 follow up questions that I have never even seen before, hopefully they can figure it out for me!”
She truly cares about her students and will work with you! By far the best 300 professor. Operations is a hard topic however she really explains it well. The exams were not impossible and were a representation of the lectures. So go to class!
Absolutely awful. She is always confused and doesn't even know how to do her own problems half the time. The final exam is impossible. Unorganized, not engaging, and awful lectures. I would leave her class more confused than when I walked in. Not a single good thing I can say about her and this class. For your own sake, avoid her if you can.
only good ratings were obviously written by herself… avoid if possible final is impossible made me drop a whole letter
Mixed feelings in Torabi's class. I generally feel that the lectures are pretty unhelpful overall, but she gives you a bunch of extra material to use as study tools. Torabi is also a caring person that actually cares if you do well in the course or not. Use the online materials and you should be fine for exams. Some extra credit as well.
If you have any say in your classes DO NOT TAKE. Go to her for the business plan because she will basically do it for you but her tests are atrocious. Final exam is 30% and has nothing to do with any of her study guides. I left class feeling distraught and having no hope for my future. Went into the final with a C+ and left with a D+.
I think these reviews are over hating. She is such a kind and sweet human and will essentially do the operations portion of the plan for you in office hours. Attendance isn't mandatory so honestly don't even go, just study on your own. Pray for yourself on the exams but you are able to completely fail one and still end with a good grade
Her lectures are really hard to follow. She puts nothing into canvas the whole semester so it's impossible to know your grade. This class is hard in itself, so that doesn't help, but she is willing to help you outside of class. The class materials are hard to follow; all exams besides final are open ended no MC. I would avoid if possible.
Very nice and caring woman, her class is... difficult to say the least. Lectures can be a bit hard to follow, and exams cover different material than what's covered in class (like, exams will be on CHs covered weeks ago and not relevant to recent lectures). Generally disorganized class, can't recommend in good faith, as nice as she is.
Torabi is a very nice professor, and is very available outside of class to provide help. Sometimes she is hard to follow in class, so I often will teach myself the lectures at home. Her tests are hard and theres weekly online quiz assignments. However every time I've asked for help or more study material she has always provided it.
Dr. Torabi is probably one of the nicest and most caring professors you will ever meet. That being said, the lectures are not very useful and the content is not taught very well. The final is genuinely impossible, like you may do better just guessing than actually trying. The content she teaches does not prepare you for it.
