PreClac<3YOU WILL LEARN MATH Gives review sheets before the exams and then he goes over it class before the exam. And the exams will similar to the review. Lets you make up hw near the end of the semester. But if you did all the Hw, he will give you an extra point for every hw check he does. Just put forth an effort and you will get a good grade.
He is brilliant and very patient. I think people who complain just did not study. I work full time and don't have much time studying but I still get 100 in every test. So as long as you follow his pace in class. Set aside maybe a day for review before every test then you will be fine.
He is brilliant and very helpful. People who complained simply did not study. I work fulltime so i don't have much time study and yet I get 100 for every test. If you follow him pace in class and set aside maybe a day before each test then you will be fine
He is the best professor i ever had in a math course. He is young, smart, and really funny. He gives a lot of extra help outside the classroom. He gives a lot of extra credits for the exams. He counts attendance and hw.If you wanna get A, do the hw and understand them. Always read the material he will cover on next class because it will be confused.
If you have Professor Amzallang for math consider yourself the luckiest person!! Work hard! He is the best!!! gives extra credit! 3 exams, drops 1.
He's a great teacher, but his exams can be tough and he can be a harsh grader also. He's really willing to help and his talk about movies is a breathe of fresh air in class.
Exams are fair. Best 2 out of 3. Final is similar to the exams. Do his homeworks and you're on the right track. Very clear on the materials. Highly recommend.
Amazing professor! Would take him again
He is AMAZING! Extremely helpful and clear. Gives tons of extra credit and there are plenty of opportunities to do really well. Really wants students to do well! His jokes are adorable and his smile lights up the whole room.
Really great professor, who cares about his students. Very easy to relate and open up to and is always there when you need him. Literally one of the nicest people I have ever met, would take him again if I could! He isn't easy, but if you work, you will succeed.
YO he is the man! Clear lectures, provides supplement reading, free textbook plus online access. Always responds to emails and office hours. Meets students outside college. Heavy extra credit to make you do really good. Lenient grader, provides past exams. Funny guy and smiley, he is the best. Review sessions. He deserves teacher of the year award.
Eli is awesome! However, 1 thing I did not like about his class was the lectures! It is almost impossible to learn Differentials Equations solely on Powerpoint slides. Eli dropped a test, gave BIG TIME extra-credit if you did all the homework, & graded the final VERY leniently. I just wished his teaching method for math was a bit more traditional!
I did minimal studying. He drops one exam. Super easy grader. Wish he could teach every math class i have to take.
meh... really nice guy, but lectures are boring and done on slides. easy grade. he does help prepare for exams.
Eli is a really nice guy who gives a easy exam. but his grading is terrible that there is no partial credit at all. ALso, he wants his student follow his format that even though you get the answer correct ; but he would take off lot of credits if you use your own variable, instead of the variable that he gave u.
Amazing professor, covers many prerequisite topics over in class so that all students can do new material. Very friendly, pretty funny, and overall great guy.
He's a nice and energized professors, gives tons of extra credits opportunities. However, beware that if you take his class you should expect to know all concepts well enough because his grading criteria on exams are tough, he can't stand careless mistakes andor mix of math symbols. Knowing how to solve math problems is not enough to earn good grad
He gave a lot of extra credits but he is really TOUGH grader. Because of extra credit option he graded the final very strictly. Almost all the students fail in the final which was worth 40% of overall grade.
He is the best!
A really great professor that cares about his students learning the material. Goes out of his way to help students despite being so busy himself. Wish I could more classes with him.
An amazing professor who's always there to help you, incredibly clear, and the list goes on... should take any math class with him! It'll be fun! :)
He is okay...
Tough class
He gives a lot of extra credits, which was probably the reason how I was able to get an A+ even tho I did pretty poorly on the final. His lectures are a bit long but he explains things thoroughly. When I took the class, there were 3 tests in total, and he drops the lowest of the 3. The homework are long but you'll get full credit if you do decent.
Really good teacher. Explains everything and makes sure students understand information. He gives ALOT of extra credit which really boosts up your final grade. 4 tests, 1 was optional. Uses WebAssign ($94-includes hw) but his powerpoints are the textbook. Review sheets are identical to exams. DO THE PRACTICE FINALS (IDENTICAL TO FINAL) ALL OF THEM!
He is very clear with extra credits, hw and exams. Also, he explains the material quite clearly even tho he goes through topics fairly quickly. Its literally impossible to fail his class unless you don't show up or don't do adequate work. And he hands out tons of extra credit work!!
Excellent teacher. Really knows the material, the slides are great because you can focus on what he is teaching rather than spending time writing. I wasn't crazy about Webassign, and much of the core learning happens online. I suppose if any class should be automated, it should probably be calculus. Teacher is A+
Great professor. Took 195 with him which admittedly is not difficult, but he is extremely clear, helpful, and patient. Dedicates class time to go over homework and tests and he dedicates time to in class questions. Clearly mastered mathematics and is very effective for every type of student. Really funny and personable as well. 10/10 recommend
His lectures are really great. Drops 1 test.
He's a really good professor who explains the math clearly. He always makes sure that everyone understands before moving forward. Best choice for math if you think you might need extra explanation.
I just love this prof omg! He makes the tests very easy and gives lots of extra credit work on webassign. But, be ready to do a lot of hw on web assign. Other than that he is the best and I would love to take him again!
He gives extra credit on tests and the web assign hws he is lenient on, but the extra credits are graded harshly during the tests and he grades tests tough and the final is the toughest and he grades that harshly as well. You should study even if you took AP calc in high school because some questions that come up on tests were harder than normal.
One of the better math professors in the building, you have to work for a good grade but he makes it easier because he understands a student's workload. Course in general is difficult but he is a very good choice.
You can tell he is passionate about the topic. Too bad he can't make differential equations interesting. Solid choice for any math class. All the resources are given to you to help you pass.
One of the better 391 Professors at ccny, great sense of humor, you're gonna have to keep up alot he's notes helpful but can sometimes be hard to understand additionally his 3 regular class exams are forgiving. I myself just struggled with the earlier class material if your planning on taking 391 find any way possible to get into his class.
Great professor who's very interested in what he teaches, online tests were easy if you study the practice he gives. He drops one of your lowest test grades. The department final was very difficult from the tests he gave us online. Do your homework its worth a lot.
Professor Eli is a very caring professor and gives many extra credits. But his exams can get very annoying. He uses this online Hawkes system for hw and class exams. I would highly recommend him.
Financial math (381 & 382) are difficult courses bc there isnt a recipe for every type of problem. To stand a chance attend class. Reading the textbook is also mandatory for extra reference. Review HW&Quiz solutions for optimal exam preparation. Go to office hours. Take Eli. He is a solid choice. Make sure your probability understanding is strong.
he teaches math with power point. gives online homework & EXAMS IN COMPUTER, with way too many questions on a very limited time period (twenty nine curve sketching questions completing all the steps in one hour ridiculous) DOES NOT PREPARE YOU FOR THE DEPARTMENT FINAL. everyone failed bc he doesn't teaches the way the department tests you.
He is a young and very energetic professor. He always Try to help students to understand lectures in simple and easy way.
Professor Eli is young and funny. He explains well but expects a lot from you in the test, specially in the proofs. His rigorous grading can help you be better at math, I see it that way. He is the only choice you have for 381 and 382 but is good, it could be worse. I wonder why the chili for hotness is missing :
Professor was absolutely amazing and I can not recommend him more. He is super caring and passionate about his topics. He provides feedback on exams to allow you to study your mistakes and learn from them.
I just finished this summer class with professor Amzallag and it was a pleasant experience. Fast replies to student emails. Records lectures. Always holds office hours and maintains an open line of communication. Take this prof!
Honestly loved his teaching skills. Two exams, one final. Final is weighted heavy, its worth 50%. He is always available during his office hours and email. Beware, precal requires a lot of memorization and understanding how to apply the formulas. Doing the homework will help!!!!
Professor Amzallag is an amazing math professor and was very flexible during an entirely online class. His lectures were easy to follow & he answered every question thoroughly. Math is not my strongest but he consistently did everything in his power to assist me in whatever way he could & I ended up doing well. 10/10 !
Took him for 38100, and it was probably on of the best courses I took online this semester. Compared to my other professor, he was the one who cared the most about his student's grades, with reasonable curves. Wish math professors were more like him in CCNY T_T, unfortunately that is not the case.
Take him for Precalculus! Explains lectures thoroughly and you can ask questions during class. Sends constant reminders of weekly quizzes (5 q 15 min) and recorded lectures. Hw is pretty light, just in webassign. One of the best and caring math teachers youll find that wont bore you!!
Prof. Amzallag currently one of the best mathematics professors at CCNY. He has a better understanding of the subject, and accurately explained the material on the slide through examples. In addition, he is willing to answer any questions during lecture, and he has a great sense of humor.
He gave good lectures and actually made sure students understand the material. He is one of the only math professors that actually took into account the students circumstance. His exams were not too bad if you do practice problems. He gave some extra credit to boost the hw and exam grades.
Prof. Amzallag is a solid professor, he knows and teaches the material well You are able to ask questions during lectures. Everything for the class is on WebAssign, the exams, quizzes, homework, everything. Class for the pandemic is virtual and everything recorded and on BB for you to go back to. You'll get a decent grade if you work hard enough.
I still remember this class and it's been 1+ years ago. The math is straightforward but obviously when you're learning it the first time it's not. So the moments where he would stop writing on the board and look around the room for a hand up is a skill that I appreciated. (He also patiently explains the material thoroughly for us shy people!)
He loves deleting the reviews just be aware of the quizzes he doesnt give partial credit. This class is a joke take a different professor.
He cares very deeply about students learning and will also listen to you and answer you if you have any questions.
Eli is well spoken and explains things clearly. I very much enjoyed his style of teaching.
I took him for 381 and he was fine. However for 382, he suddenly changed. He became so much harsher. The materials are basically proofs. He does not give partial credit and if you go to his office hours, get ready for attitude. Oh he also does not give feedback in regards to grading, and he grades late.
Proofs, barely any calculations. Dismissive guy, harsh grader and boring.
Eli makes things difficult and puts lots of extra work .Lots of HW's no feedback. he grades the tests super late. tomorrow is final and we still don't know why the wrong questions are wrong on test3. When you ask this he gets mad and suggests to join more office hours. His excuse is: he has lots of classes to teach. If you can't you should not do
Professor Eli was great in Math 381. But in Math 382 he changed. The class became mundane and purely proof based. There was no math finance material in the class. He gave multiple choice exams but if there was no or some partial work for an answer you had correct, he took all the points AWAY. He also gave you attitude if you didn't know smth.
Great Professor for Math 381 and Math 382. Lectures are great. Exam questions can be a little bit tricky. If you put in the time for the course, you will do great.
He makes you show work for all questions on exams and makes sure your desk is checked prior to each exam. As awful as that sounds he goes give loads of partial credit and gives fairly easy exams. His lectures arent too bad and hes a nice guy overall. Got an A+ in the course and honestly didnt study much.
He was the best math professor that I have ever met at city college. I took 3 courses with him. He is not only a good professor but also a kind and caring person. You can tell that he actually cares about his students and he is always available outside of class. His lecture is very clear and well organized. You won't regret taking him.
Amazing professor. I received a C+, but that's fully on me for not practicing especially over a short winter course. The professor explains the formulas really well. If you pay attention in class and do all the web assign assignments you are supposed to then you should have no trouble in getting an A.
I took his class after failing a previous Precalc class due to bad professor and not enough studying on my part but Eli Amzallag is Eli Amazing he is very knowledgeable and good at teaching I highly recommend everyone to take him.
He is by far the best Math teacher I ever had, gives extra credit work in the exam so you can secure an easy 100 plus he gives lots of partial credit if you only show work in tests.
I forgot to rate him before, I took his Math 195 during the Winter classes in January in CCNY, trust me he's the best prof ever. If I ever get him again I'm doing his classes. Don't miss out if you have the chance of getting him
very amazing professor. passionate about his profession. i love this man. i wish every prof was like him.
Best CCNY professor ever.
Professor Amzallag is truly one of very few professors at CCNY who is truly dedicated and consistent in his approach to teaching. He is always eager to answer questions. He is a very fair grader + grading criteria very comprehensible. You will get hw, extra credit, + drop lowest exam. You have everything to gain from this class. Highly recommend!
Awesome professor who knows what hes doing. Very helpful and motivated to teach, super kind and will assist you through any difficuty. Wish I could have a professor like him for all my courses.
Honestly one of the best Math professor's I've had. He's very passionate about teaching. He makes math easy to understand! If I ever get the chance to take his class again, I most definitely will!
This professor is amazing only if you take the time to study and complete homework. Web assign is a huge help but it's not enough to get good grade on exam. You need to study more in depth of topic which he does very well, learn all the material to pass.
He goes extremely fast and expects us to be responsible for material not covered in class. Very condescending as well. He's an average professor at best, definitely nowhere near the best in CCNY though. Don't be fooled by other reviews.
The disconnect is crazy. He believes that because HE can complete his exam in 30 minutes with ease, so can the students. Gives too much homework, moves really quick in class. You can get an answer right on an exam but if he can't read or understand your work its a 0.If he can't make class, youtube vids with 3+ hrs of content(class is 1:15 hours).
Rush through the topics & expect you to remember everything from high school. Also be ready spend all your time in just that class.
Mr.Amzallag teaches very quickly, we went through 3 lessons in 1 class period. Isn't lying about how you need study material when ever you are free. He is an old head, has those old jokes. I had him during late evening/early night time, he had energy to teach the class successfully.
Explains concepts carefully and thoroughly and makes sure his students understand them.
Avoid him, he goes through material way too quickly. His explanations are not very helpful.
When it comes to clear lectures, this professor is better than every other Math professor at ccny however, when it comes to his exams. His grading makes it so that any work you did to solve the questions doesn't matter. The only way to achieve partial credit is if your answer is somewhat right. If it's completely wrong no credit even if work shown.
do the HW
Eli is not a horrible professor, compare to others. This professor goes to quickly over material. Exams are really hard and questions are confusing. Prepare to do a lot of homework, which will help you to practice. Be prepare for this class, and he would never curve. even if it is 1 point that you need to pass the class.
Amazing professor, Prof. Amzallag teaches linear algebra with pure grace. Lin alg is not an easy math class but he does break down the theorems and proofs really well. This was a summer course so he did go at a fast pace. Best to prepare before his lectures to get the most out of it. Overall, fair grader, accessible, and hilarious too. Reccomend.
Eli is a good professor. Exams are really hard but if you do the Homework and practice a lot, you'll be fine!
Professor Amzallag is a great professor! Be sure to put in your own work and think about linear algebra critically. Linear algebra is unlike other maths, but the professor is there to connect any gaps you have.
He's an alright professor, there are some pros but also a lot of cons. He is one of the best math lecturers and would grade the exams out of 110. However, some exam questions were unnecessarily tedious and difficult, which made everyone lose points. He is also not a very lenient grader. Be prepared to work hard & study harder.
Not worth the stress. If possible, take linear algebra with someone else.
Take him if you can. One of the best math professors at CCNY.
Eli is a great lecturer however his tests are very hard. Even if you study all of the homework, the tests are very different from the homework. The numbers he gives on the tests make it almost impossible to finish on time and the textbook he uses is not great (he uses the lyryx linear algebra textbook.) Take another prof for linear If you can.
This guy made this class more difficult than it really was, on top of that it felt like he hated the students after the first exam. I'd avoid him. Do it for your own sanity.
Pretty good professor, just make sure to go to class. To do well on the exams, just make sure to go to class and take notes, do the homework because the problems often appear on the exams in a similar manner. Professor is not as bad as others make him out to be at all.
I took this professor this passed summer for linear algebra. The experience wasn't good. Although he had an amazing mind for the subject, his grading style makes his exams extremely difficult to do well on. I'd look for a different professor to take the course with. Do it for your own sanity.
He's a good guy, he really cares about math you can tell. He's big on movies. He teaches well, but you have to put in effort for the class, it's kind of expected with him. His tests are fair and as long as you show up to lecture you'll be good. Definitely feel like I learned a lot from him. At the end everyone's grades got bumped up just a little.
As long as you do the homework and show up to class, you should be doing fine. Those who give bad ratings are just lazy. Got a full-time job? That's your problem.
I personally liked Amzallag, he does have a lot of quizzez, usually within the first 5-10 minutes of class but if you pay attention during the lectures you should be fine. He offers help through office hours and there are additional tutoring options, he posts practice exams on BB which are fairly simliar to the exams given in class.
The teacher is quite nice, and easy to talk to and get along with, he is really good at teaching, the only bad thing was the intensive course that limited our time to learn, but in general I would take classes with this teacher again, but never again an intensive course in winter
Professor Eli runs a tough class, but there are ways to succeed. Staying on top of the homework and attending lectures are key. I found Unstuck ai really helpful for practice problems and exam prep. Overall, you'll learn a lot if you're willing to put in the work.
Great sense of humor, breaks down concepts really well. Grading is fair (very lenient on the final exam) but can take some time which is understandable since he teaches so many classes. There is quiz every class but generally easy. Just finish 70+% of hw for a full hw grade. HE IS THE GOAT!!!
He makes the course super easy to digest, and he's pretty lenient with grading as long as you demonstrate knowledge of the material. I don't think you could get a better prof for this course. The only downside is his no-tech policy and strict deadlines, but there's so much extra credit and dropped assignments that it more than makes up for it.
Amazing guy! Took him for many courses and he not only explained very difficult content very well, but gave reasonable exams and extra credit opportunities. Favorite professor in the math department.
Amazing professor right here, his teaching was very consistent and his HW's were very good practice. His exams were very fair and mostly based on the sample exams from previous semesters. I learned so much mostly at the end. Overall a 10/10
Ok professor. Really funny. Didn't assign much HW. Teaches rapidly and uses slides, but also provides examples on the board. His exams are very fair. However, he grades hard. He's not very fair with the partial credit. Unfortunately, he grades exams out of 110 and not 100. The only professor you can take for 381 and 382.
