He is very detailed, a lot of information all at once. Almost a chapter covered everyday, only 3 exams plus final; but one exam is dropped. Study important people in genetics this is very important to him, almost was a 3rd of first exam. Exams are not curved but there is a bit of extra credit. Very good professor, very student friendly.
fun professor, hard class. you need to study on daily basis
He is funny but you really need to study and go over important people and vocab. the in class activities are almost always in the exam, make sure you know that. you will need to study daily.
He make genetics interesting and while some topics he goes over are quite boring, he makes them fun. Most of the material is off of his power points (you only need to look briefly over the textbook for help, although he says to read it prior to class), and his tests are easy if you just go over his slides. I would recommend him :)
He knows his stuff very wel and is very intelligent. Makes the class interesting. He does not give test reviews however, if you go to class and study the power points you will do great on all test! I recommend him :) I consider myself lucky for having him as my professor.
Probably one of the best teachers I've had at UTEP. His class is very interesting and his tests are based on the lectures. Pay attention to the names of people, terminology, and group problems. This is where his exams come from. If you study that you should be good in his class.
He is my favorite teacher by far! I took his class as a freshman because I had previous high school credit that allowed me to. You have a book but if you just study his powerpoints you should be fine. I still read the book it gave a good basis, at least skim it. Overall great teacher.
Overall he is a great professor. His lectures are straight to the point and all the information you need is on his powerpoints. For the exams just study the powerpoints and you'll be fine you don't really need the book in this class.
First of all, he is so HOT! Ooo I couldn't even focus on his powerpoints, such a beautiful man. Okay but really, the material is slightly challenging but easy when you go over it a couple times. Only three exams and a final, and he drops an exam. I enjoyed his class, wish he taught more classes at utep! Take his class! UR 4EVER BAE PROF GREENBAUM
You hardly ever use the book. Everything is on his powerpoints.
I got a C on this class because I was lazy but, this class it is very fun the bold man it is a very good professor and, makes lecture entertaining. Exams are multiple choice they are not that bad, you dont need a book everything is on the power points. Try not to skip lecture because he gives pop quizes.
If you know the powerpoints, you know the test
Dr. Greenbaum is an amazing professor. He actually cares about his students, which is rather rare at UTEP. I personally made good grades on the exams because I went to class everyday and studied, and I only used the textbook sometimes. Most of the material comes from the power-points. Be sure to do the homework!
Dr. Greenbaum is very knowledgeable about the subject but the class is very hard and he is very tough grader.
You must go to lecture if you wish to pass. He appreciates if you read before lecture. If you miss lecture you miss quizzes. Pay attention to the syllabus and advice at the beginning of the class!!
This course is fast. You have to read before lecture. This is no review for exams, so you have to study hard. Be disciplined when taking this course!
This professor is knowledgeable and experienced and presents the intellect of the course in a clear manner and is willing to stay on the topic until general comprehension is achieved. Is self observant in the sense that this professor can tell when the class does not understands and always tries his best to explain more thorough. Great Professor!
He was a great professor, and really cares about educating students. Make sure you go to the lectures as he explains tough concepts in a way that you can understand.
considerate about students time
He is such a wonderful professor but make sure to always attend lectures. Lectures are wonderful but exams are a little difficult so make sure you keep up with the readings and do the home works.
Exams are worth 90% of your grade, attendance, quizzes, and homework are 10%. The exams aren't that difficult, but you literally need to memorize and have a good understanding of all the slides in each powerpoint. Goes over 1 chapter a class, and each exam is 6-7 chapters. Good professor, but if you want an easy A I'd suggest taking it online.
This professor has a profound background which will manage to captivate your mind if your major is related to this course. Although he is a tough grader, you need to earn your grade. Beware, it is isn't as easy as one might think. Make sure to go to every class; he assigns group problems at the start of class that affect your grade. Great overall!
Dr. Greenbaum is one of the few and better professors that I've had. He is there to educate and does not mess around. He drops the lowest non final test score which helps out a lot because most fail the first test. I would not bother buying the book as his tests are primarily based on the power points. The course is difficult though so study!!!
Easy 100. Class average for the first exam was really good. Take Grenbaum. I like him a lot. I sit in the back abd hear him very well
Very easy A
Easiest 100 ever. He teaches very good. I like him
Greenbaum got a great way of teaching. Nobody failed his class or even got a B. Clear instructions and extra credits every exam for Genetics BIOL 3320. Great teacher too. Very hot teacher. Highly recommended
Great instructor. teaches in a nice way of helping students learn and get good grades. He also pointed out what to focus on for each exam. Easiest 100 class ever in college. Highly recommended
Greenbaum is a good teacher. He not only has clear lectures, Eli gave students tons and tons of extra credits to help students get A's. Class average was 103% for third exam. I highly recommend him.
Easy A class. Class average was 103% for third exam. Gave students a lot of extra credits. Prepared students for Medical school really well. Would definitely take him again for other classes.
Good professor. He is a great teacher and he is so sweet! He knows his stuff very well and his is willing to help you with anything.
Easy A clear instructions
His tests are not that difficult. He gives powerpoints and almost the whole test will be based on those pp's. Be sure to read a bit of the topic before class so you know what he is talking about. Study the pp's and if you don't understand something, make sure you do. It will be a good class if you're prepared and pay attention. Study hard!
Great teacher at UTEP. You'll learn a lot. Highly recommended.
Really cool professor, i would recommend. Easy A.
Probably one of the easiest professors, there is extra credit available in each test. There is another online class which is more difficult. If you want a guaranteed A, i would suggest this professor.
Awesome teacher!!! Take his classes! You'll learn a lot!!! You won't regret!!! Highly recommended!! Just don't be lazy
Good teacher. No comments
I like the way he teaches a lot!!! He cares about you and give you straight 100's. UTEP is ALWAYS the best of the best university in the USA. Highly recommended!!!
Clear instruction. Best professor. Great teacher. UTEP is always the best university in the USA. Highly recommended
Dr. Greenbaum is a great professor with a tough class to teach. If you take this class, make sure you prioritize your time. This class is demanding and the concepts are difficult to master. My favorite assignment during this course was reading his book Emerald Labyrinth: A Scientist's Adventures in the Jungles of the Congo.
He is a wonderful professor, that is passionate about the subject, but this is not an easy course. You need to study the material, read, do the homework, and pay attention during lecture. Don't expect an easy A. You have to work for it. some group problems, homework, and attendance are 10% of grade. The rest is exams. 4 exams, drops lowest.
TAKE IT ONLINE. The class is based on the exams and the in class quizzes. The homework isn't counted in the grade, you wasted time and $90. The quizzes are worth the full 10%, attendance and homework are not accounted into the final grade. The exams are difficult, study the powerpoints heavily. Professor doesn't curve and doesn't have extra credit.
90% of the class is 4 tests, only drops 1 but not the final. Tests are based on pwpts and he tests you little details that are easy to miss. Homework heavy but makes up only like 3% of your grade. Lectures are long. Good professor, his tests are just really hard to get an A in. Want to learn? Take it with him. If you just want an A take it online.
AWESOME TEACHER!!! Extra Credit offered every single day!!! 99% of Students got 100 in class. Nobody could fail or drop or even got a single B in his class. Eli Greenbaum is the greatest teacher ever. UTEP is the BEST OF THE BEST University in the U-S-A!!!! YES!!! Highly Recommended!
Great teacher. Amazing lecture. 25 point Extra Credits offered every single day to help students get 100. 99% of students got 100 in Genetics. Highly Recomended! UTEP is ALWAYS the BEST OF THE BEST University in the U--S--A!!! Take Greenbaum for Genetics!
All the previous reviews saying Dr. Greenbaum gives extra credit and that it is an easy "A" are lies the class is challenging it requires you to put in the effort it is a lot of material so it is tough.
Dr. Greenbaum does NOT give extra credit that being said there is Homework due every week before class, in class problems to turn in for a grade, 4 exams drops the lowest but you can not drop the final so make sure to study and read ahead to be prepared for class.
Does not teach well enough to understand anything he just reads his slides quickly. Does group assignments in class for attendance. Exams are very difficult questions come from lecture slides that he doesnt go over very well. Always brags how people fail. Good luck in this class ...
Always preaches that the class is too hard and that not everyone is gonna pass. Very boring professor and just reads off the slides.
You have to read and memorize the power points, otherwise you will fail the exams. He also drops the lowest exam score.
No extra credit. No reviews. No understanding, even during difficult times like COVID. Lectures are HEAVY and hold a lot of information he does not explain well. Smart man, but will treat you like a freshman. Many struggled moving to online classes and taking care of family, but his only solution was for us to drop. the good reviews are outdated
Lots of Extra Credits Summer 2020 Genetics. Easy 100. Take Eli Greenbaum now
he makes you buy his own book, (or get on UTEP website for free but it doesnt save your place and you have to login every 10 minutes). he seems like a nice guy maybe outside of work, very knowledgeable. however he is very arrogant when it comes to class, seems like hes "gatekeeping" genetics. if majority students fail it says more about the prof!
Greenbaum takes pride in failing you and being hard, BIO 3320 has so much material to cover, and many of us asked him to please provide us with a review, instead he just told us to study his outdated and long power-points. You have to pay $100 to complete his assignments in a specific website, that will only count for 5/100 possible points.
Professor Greenbaum gives a tough class. If there is a chance where you can take genetics with another teacher do so! Exams are not super tough but VERY specific so you have to make sure to not stay behind in lecture and to thoroughly understand the material. So ask away any questions you may have. Theres also quizzes and homework assignments.
He is one of the worst professors that i have taken. This professor is very confrontational rude and likes to gloat if you don't do well. He will fool you at first with the quizzes that are easy but will catch you in the exams. The exams are very hard and I assure you previous exams don't apply and he is really bad at grading, you wont get an A.
Web-cam proctored exams, does NOT give reviews. The exams are extremely difficult, even if you study you might not pass. I have a 3.9 GPA and I am a good student but this is class is unnecessary difficult
Professor Greenbaum has a lot of negative reviews for some reason and I am not sure why. Exams are super straightforward - study the slides and do the homework and it is super easy. He gives example problems before every quiz and will let you know hints for the exam in the lecture. His lectures are super interesting - loved this class!
Okay, only take this class if you are ready to study A LOT! His tests are based on approximately 5 lectures, but you have to study those very hard because you don't know what specifically is going to be on the exam. And he will only deduct points if you didn't do your homework but he gives no points if you did it. 90% of your grade is exams.
Heavy exams only about 30 questions but very specific questions so you really have to memorize the lectures. Tests account for 90% of your grade and the other ten percent is based on the quizzes and homework however those are easy. Although to do the homework you do have to pay 100$.
Dont listen if they try to scare you about this prof - Dr. G is a gem!! This class was actually amazing and I learned so much. Great lecturer. Yes, he is quiz and test heavy, but the questions are super straightforward & as long as you studied the lecture, youll be fine (100s). The Emerald book is easy to read and all the HW is on quizlet.
If you want to truly learn, take his class. Lectures are awesome, engaging, & to the point. If you watch & pay attention to the lecture, quizzes & exams are easy. Lots of homework, but helps learn material. Uses lockdown, but you eventually get used to it. Uploads PPT to follow along w/ lecture. Go to PASS sessions to solidify understanding!
Really great Professor!!! Made learning the material really fun and easy! Test heavy, but as long as you watch the lectures you will be fine. He really simplifies all the information so you have a greater understanding and you are prepared for the quizzes and exams! Definitely an awesome class to take!!!
If you focus on his PowerPoints and group problems, you will definitely pass the class. I took him in the summer and it was a lot of reading and homework, but if you just focus on his PowerPoints you will be fine. Easy class if you pay attention and focus. Really nice professor and would take him again if I could!
i was worried to take this class bc of all the reviews on here but its not that bad. his exams are very easy & based on the content he tells u to go over. lectures are long but easy to follow. getting an A is 100% doable if u stay motivated. focus on the powerpoints and youll be fine.
You have to study but very caring and wonderful professor! I would advise review slides before each exam. In class quizzes to help with attendance but not hard and not every class.
Dr. Greenbaum is the best lecturer and his exams reflect that. I would not wish this class on anyone. Take Dr. Harvey. That said he really is a great prof with a lot of field experience. Makes himself available to students.
Lectures are boring. He reads off the PowerPoint. Attendance is mandatory. He gives 2 points extra credit on each exam.Lowest exam grade dropped. All his exams are based on his presentations (about 6 lectures for every test). His class will revolve around his Congo research too. He has no study guides or reviews, but he does encourage tutoring.
do not take class with this professor, lectures are boring and mostly reads off the PowerPoint. He also takes .5 points of final grade for every absence and for each missed homework. exams are very tough and isn't accessible outside of class unless you have attended to the review sections.
avoid if you can, content heavy lectures read with a monotone voice so hard to follow. i dropped before the deadline but a lot of people ended up failing. homework based on reading from a website you have to buy, super long texts. exams arent long but difficult to study for since you dont know what hell focus on(will ask on super obscure topics)
Dr. Greenbaum's class was heavily reliant mainly on memorizing the vocabulary concepts. I wish the lecture offered more interactivity as I had to force myself to attend every time. A bunch of penalties removed points from your final grade, so I wouldn't recommend taking the class if you have a busy semester.
This class is definitely one that requires studying, and attending class. I took this class along with some other workload-heavy classes so that was just unlucky on my part. The professor definitely knows what he's talking about and was nice, but the material was hard. Attendance is mandatory, most of your grade comes from (multiple choice) exams.
I entered the class intimated with all these reviews. Listen, if you want a passionate professor who will challenge your thinking and perhaps inspire you. This is the professor to take, if you want things easy and DONT want to show up to class you will FAIL. All this exams are based on LECTURES. Study the POWERPOINTS not Ebook. Attend TA sessions!
Genetics is a very interesting subject but the exams were very lecture heavy. Be ready to learn about his own research and be tested on it. He is a little discouraging when it comes to talking in office hours. If I could retake the class I would definitely take a different professor.
Dr. Greenbaum is an amazing professor but his class can make you think otherwise. He's really understanding when it comes to grades and ultimately wants the best outcome for this students. I really enjoyed his class overall but it was definitely the hardest class I took, if you're not willing to put effort into the class then do not take it.
The tests are all based on his PowerPoint, they are information-heavy but with tutoring and really understanding the topics, you will pass. Attend as many tutorings as possible to do the math-related problems, and practice the examples with yourself from the PowerPoints for they will be on the exam. iClicker points are also added, make study groups
Professor Greenbaum is really passionate about what he does and that reflects on his lectures. This class is LECTURE HEAVY and there are 4 exams throughout the semester. To pass his exams, you mainly have to focus on the POWERPOINTS, study outside of class, attend as many tutoring sessions as you can!!
He was overall great, you can tell that he loves genetics and his research. As long as you study the powerpoints well you'll be fine.
Don't let him scare you, this class is not very hard once you get the hang of it. He makes things sound 100x worse than they are. His tests are mostly definition based and only based on the lectures unless he tells you otherwise. Go to tutoring and you'll be okay! (this is coming from a non-STEM major)
Very difficult professor, wouldn't recommend. Try and find a different professor if you need to take this class.
Dr. Greenbaum provides interesting and thorough voice over PowerPoint lectures. Within the lectures there are "in class" problems that allow you to practice the material. These assist in performing well on the quizzes/exams. He provides a thorough syllabus, expectations are clear. The textbook assignments compliment his lectures.
Avoid if possible!!
Nice and knowledgeable professor but the class in itself is like a job. If you can take any other elective, take it. This is not an easy elective class and requires way too much time studying it's ridiculous. But if you're up to the challenge then go for it, it just won't be easy and it'll require a lot of your time.
He is a tough grader, and the course was challenging, making it difficult at times to earn the grades I wanted. However, the high expectations pushed me to truly understand the material. Despite the difficulty, his passion for this subject made it interesting and engaging. I advise not to take him if you aren't ready to devote yourself to his class
He bases his exams off of his own lecture powerpoints, which he makes on his own. I thought the exams were pretty straight forward you just had to know the big main concepts he went over from lecture. However, he does assign homework and readings each week and those do take up time. He is also very easy to contact.
