Overall a great instructor for the class. Class is never boring and Eli always keeps it interesting. The only bad part of the class was that he wasn't an easy essay grader and would take off lots of points for small mistakes! He needs to be more clear with what he wants in the papers he assigns.
Eli is great! As my first college level English class, I felt that he was a very fair grader for what his expectations were. His comments were very helpful and he really wants everyone to succeed. Lectures can be a little dry at times but thats the only criticism I have.
Eli is great! For my first college level english class I feel he was a very fair grader for what he expected. His feedback on essays are super helpful, so use it when you edit your papers. His lectures can be dry at times but that is my only criticism.
Kind of a dork, but in a non-annoying way. his class is fun. I got amazing grades on all of my papers. But he puts emphasis on formatting, and WILL take of point for small errors. Other than that he is sweet and helpful.
He is super genuine in wanting each student to succeed! I felt super comfortable asking questions in class. He is always willing to help. I don't even like english that much but found the class to be really interesting. He made writing essays not so painful. Just do most of the readings, speak up in class and show you care and you'll get an A.
Lovable guy. Really enjoyed being in class. Needs to be a little more clear on what he wants on essays. Tough class if you don't go. Funny in his own way, great overall instructor, just needs to be more clear in essay assignments
Eli is great guy and a good teacher. I'm glad that I got him as a teacher this year. You can get an A in this class if you attend every class, do the homework, and write pretty good essays. AND FORMAT everything correctly.
I really did think I was doing well in this class up until about the second essay, where he grades incredibly hard. Great guy, makes class interesting, but didn't get why I had such a low grade at the end of the semester. Also, gets very nervous when talking in front of students.
Super awesome and cool! Good guy too. Has good intentions for your success.
Hella chill, easy grader, not boring, easy A, watch youtube clips a lot and little work.
Eli is a funny guy. Makes class a lot more interesting than other english teachers would. He grades fairly, and it is not hard to get an A or B. would recommend taking him
One of the coolest professor anybody can have. He makes the class super interesting with his jokes, videos, and the assignments are not that hard either. Basically, you'll receive an A if you do all of the work. MAKE SURE TO DO THE CORRECT HEADING. Get him as a professor, he's the best.
Seriously, the greatest English teacher I have ever had. He's really laid back, and can ask him anything and he'll give you an honest answer. I recommend him! If you do the work, you'll get an A.
Great teacher!! Laid back, keeps class interesting, and can relate to students on different level. I hate English and he helped me to enjoy class time. You would be dumb not to take this class with him
Honestly one of the coolest, funniest, most laid back teachers I've had at the University of Arizona. Finally a teacher with a great sense of humor haha. Anyways he makes class fun and engaging. Do the work and participate and its likely you'll get an A!
His class is okay. I found the work to be kind tedious and repetitive. The essays were graded easily, as long as you read the directions. The essays had short limits which, in my opinion, didn't work well with the essay topics given. Overall, a very good class. Take if you want an easy A and need to strengthen your writing skills.
If you show up, participate, and give it your best effort you'll receive a good grade. He's a fair grader and is very helpful. Im not one for the subject of English but he made it a fun learning experience. Here is your chili pepper Eli.. (Spring 2014)
Great instructor! He doesn't dot his "I's" and goes on tangents but Let's you voice your opinion and makes class enjoyable and interesting! Highly suggest taking his class for English!
Eli is a really cool guy and I good teacher. I honestly did not like his class because he is into some *really* weird stuff and assigns papers and assignments based on them. He also has you turn in a rough draft of papers and then the final draft the next class, which isn't ideal. Overall, he's a good guy.
Eli is honestly the best english professor your gonna get. He's passionate about the subject and is extremely knowledgeable. His classes, though you have to read for homework, have great discussions. He's a tough, but fair grader. ELI IS DA BOMB.
As long as you go to class, you are guaranteed to pass this class because this class is all about discussion. He is super chill and an easy grader (he does yik yak too). There are reading home work everyday but they are usually 5-15 pages long. He is by far the best instructor I had for first semester.
Eli is such a funny guy, I always looked forward to coming to his class. Only 4 papers with short journal entries (10 for the semester) and no tests. Such an easy grader. More like a friend than a teacher. TAKE HIS CLASS.
This was one of my favorite classes. Eli is a great guy. He is super understanding and chill. He lets off go off on tangents and he has a really cute dog. If you can have Eli as a teacher do it! I am super upset that my schedule doesn't work to have him for 102.
Eli is a great teacher but a very hard grader. Get ready to have your writing improved in his class. He is also very helpful if you go talk with him he gives good advice on how to edit your papers. I really enjoyed all the things we did this semester.. take this class if you want to have fun and learn many weird cool things
Eli is a great teacher. He understands that English is not the end all be all and, if you put a good amount of effort into your papers and take peer editing seriously, you will do fine in his class. He is not one of those dix (had to keep it clean) that grades you like you are an English major. TAKE HIS CLASS!!
As long as you try and go beyond Eli's expectations, easy A
Eli understands what it's like to be a college student. His tangents are super funny and sometimes last the whole class. He's by far my favorite english teacher. The workload is bearable too, overall fantastic class. However, take his fantasy football advice with a grain of salt. He barely made playoffs. Also, make 49er jokes, he loves them.
Mr. Turner is an awesome guy who is really funny in class which makes his lectures easy to go to and usually interesting. To become a better writer and succeed in his class you have to talk to him after your first essay and find out exactly what he wants which will help you get A's and B's on the rest of your essay's. Go to office hours or email
Eli, is a great teacher. He makes it pretty clear what he wants from the students in the beginning of the semester. He wants to see the effort and as long as you try and participate then its an easy A. He is super chill! By far one of my favorite instructors here at the University of Arizona, definitely recommend him!
Eli is the perfect professor for English 101 ! Just 3 essays which he explains clearly and the final is to revise a previous essay. Make sure to read the assignments to discuss in class. Definitely would take again !
Eli is the kind of teacher that will make you want to come to class. The dude is hilarious and his lectures are usually pretty interesting; I can't say that I ever got bored in his class during the semester. Academically he isn't a super tough grader but he's pretty strict on formatting. He is more than willing to help you fix up your essay.
ELI IS HONESTLY THE BEST TEACHER. Loved his class. It was actually enjoyable. He has an awesome perspective on things and I felt my writing actually improved. TAKE HIS AWESOME CLASS.
Really funny. Easy grader. You learn a lot! I would definitely take again. Makes his students feel passionate about writing.
I love Eli Turner as a professor! I never realized this when I was taking his class but among the people that I have met in my life he is one of the most memorable and inspirational. He is an extremely good person and a great professor! TAKE HIS CLASS!
I am NOT an English major - I actually despise it. Req'd Gen Ed, so alas, I took in summer to just aim at a "C" and get thru it. Figured short time less pain. I was WRONG! I would have taken Mr. Turner's class full semester had I known how great an instructor! I worked hard, but he made it fun & interesting!! TOP NOTCH! Take his class-the best!
Eli always had something interesting to say in every class, he's easy-going, and he's very entertaining. I never really enjoyed going to my english classes in high school, but this was the first time I actually LOOKED FORWARD to going to my english class! I definitely recommend taking his class if you can; I would definitely take it again.
Eli Turner is hands down the best professor I had all semester! He not only made the class very entertaining but also something to look forward to everyday. Mr. Turner is very clear about his desired formatting and what other essentials are needed on assignments to get an A. I would definitely take another class with him!
One of the best teachers I've ever had. He is really really funny, and gives you insightful opinions while also being relaxed at the same time. He will help you if you ask for it, including things not related to school. If you need help in some aspect other than school, talk to him. Also, he's just a great person, laugh at his jokes please.
Honestly, this class was pretty easy. Weekly journals, two 5-7 page papers, a creative project, and an easy essay final. Eli is a hilarious guy who always has something interesting/strange to say. As far as grading goes, sometimes it's fair and sometimes it's not. Received B's on all papers and almost got a B in the class.
Eli was a hilarious guy and class was never boring. I personally thought he was an easy grader. I got A's on every paper and a high A in the class. Definitely make sure you do the assigned reading though because that was the only thing he freaked out about this year.
He goes on pretty long tangents, but that is what makes the class fun and interesting. Overall, it was a great class, and I would definitely take it again. Only three essays assigned, and we watched a lot of movies.
Cool guy, entertaining, good taste in movies, overall solid teacher. Not too tough of a grader, if you do a decent job he'll give you a fair grade. He occasionally goes on tangents during lectures, but they are almost always interesting or at least entertaining. However he does sweat a lot. (inside joke, ask him about it)
Loved this teacher, was not expecting it to be centered around film but it was really interesting. He does go on tangents but not boring ones, you'll find out some interesting stories about Blockbuster. It was a pretty laid back class, but not boring. Great guy and class, take this class.
Eli is so great! The class is so funny and super casual, but attendance is mandatory. There are only 3 projects/essays and then a final. There are couple of journal assignments that are super easy though. We watch a lot of movies in this class. I would HIGHLY recommend this class if you're looking for a chill English teacher.
Mr. Turner is probably one of the most chill teachers I have ever had. He lets his students call him 'Eli' and even brought his dog on the last day. There are 3 big projects/essays. I loved them! It's not the typical "interpret this author". It's truly just your own opinions. Hw: reading articles and writing journals. He made English fun for me. :)
Eli is one of the best teachers I've ever had because he is really understanding and nice. As long as you pay attention to his lectures (there aren't many) and listen to his feedback, you can do well in the class. He gives good feedback as well as he knows you care about you grade. He also complimented my dad's beard. He's the best. (:
Tbh such a good teacher seriously you won't regret having him as your Professor hes absolutely hilarious, really easy to talk to and overall a great guy. You will have to work hard in the class but its worth it. Don't give up a chance to take his class. According to all known laws of aviation there is no way a bee should be able to fly........
Rate my professor? More like Date my professor, the chili pepper is seriously deserved. Eli is the best English teacher ever -- this was the only class I had where I felt going to lectures was both fun and educational. The assignments were worthwhile and enjoyable. Likes hip hop and Gambino too which is cool. Don't buy the books, they weren't used.
Mr. Turner is an awesome professor! Even though his English class is a bit different from the 'typical' class, his lectures and discussions are entertaining. He gives good feedback on essays and is easy to talk to. Highly recommend taking his class!
Best English teacher I've had. His English class was actually interesting and made me want to come to class. No busy work and all assignments are straight to the point and graded fairly. Take his class.
He goes on amazing tangents and class never fails to be interesting. As long as you don't miss too many classes and do your essays, you'll pass easily. There's a heavy focus on film rhetoric, so you watch a lot of shows. Our topic was invasions, which was really interesting. He's a really laid back guy and a good teacher.
Take this teacher if you can. Super chill, as long as you show up and do the essays, passing should be easy. He has us analyze a lot of movies, short stories, TV shows, and comedians, which is a fun change of pace to what you'd expect of a typical English class. He's entertaining and just an overall dynamite guy. Don't bother buying the textbook.
Taking this teacher is essential to your university education. Drop any preconceived notion of what an English class is. Eli sets up the classroom atmosphere so that you speak securely and confidently, yet be challenged enough to be alert and developing. It's the environment where school more abundantly depends on and a love for learning grows.
Take his class. Eli is a super funny, nice, and overall just amazing guy! I was almost sad the class was over the last day because it was so fun! Only 3 papers (and a 2 page final) plus a few easy journal entries. The workload was pretty standard, but he gives great feedback and the material is interesting.
Great class. Lectures are fun, we talk a lot about film and video. Eli is funny and evidently passionate, grades easy too.
I had a great time in this class! Engaging lectures, and you get to watch a lot of movies (and listen to some John Mulaney). My friend recommended me to take this class, and Im glad he did because I now I recommend it too :)
Great lectures. Very passionate. Hillarious. Fun. Caring. 10/10 recommend taking this course
Eli was a very caring professor that provided good feedback on assignments and made the classroom a fun environment. Overall coursework was very manageable with multiple journal entries during the semester and three major projects.
Eli Turner is a super dope teacher. I had him last semester, and I made an account just to rate him. Before I had him, I was not interested in analyzing movies at all, and I thought of that as a pointless task. Now, I can't even watch a movie with waves crashing without realizing it was an innuendo. Anyways, Eli is a great teacher!! Must take.
Eli is an amazing teacher. This class is film based so lectures usually are tied to a film we watch in or out of class which are fun & interesting. There is very minimal reading. Homework is small journal entries about once a week, portfolio entries, and 3 major essays. Just go to class, do ur homework, & put in some effort in ur essays for an A.
Eli is the best ever love him and his class so much! Watch great movies and have so much fun with discussions! Highly recommend taking his class
Eli is a great teacher. Instead of reading books like every other english 101 class, he shows movies in class, or black mirror, and has you write essays on them. He gives minimal homework. Every class is more discussion based, less lecture. If you show up and try, you'll probably get an A.
Eli is an amazing English prof! He is very funny and his class is very entertaining! His class is mostly based off of movie analysis, so we just watched a ton of movies and TV episodes and wrote papers on them (Alien, Black Mirror episodes, etc...). Not a very hard grader and you learn a ton of useful information in this class. Take his class!!!
Eli's class was interesting, it was mostly film analysis on the theme "invasion." Not all the movies were great tho. His class very clearly leans towards one political view, which can make participating somewhat harder when you don't share that view. Don't expect grades until late. Fairly chill prof, easy to work w/, just won't vibe with everyone.
Eli was great!! Dont expect things to be graded on time but do expect to enjoy the mostly film-based class.
You have to try to fail in this class. Eli is incredibly flexible and empathetic when it comes to helping students work through the class, and all you do is watch and analyze films that he picks. By far one of the best experiences I've ever had in the classroom, 10/10 would recommend.
I love Eli but would realistically give the class itself a 4/5. He is great and I would recommend him to anyone, but I struggled with the focus on film and found it difficult to write about. I got more comfortable with it as the semester went on. Class was chill but I panicked when we had essays. I got good grades and Eli is 100% understanding.
I enjoyed him as my teacher but his grading habits were terrible. There are three essays to be written about movies throughout the class. He grade any of the assignments and finally put them all in at once right before the final and last essay. Overall, it is a pretty easy class with not much work or very hard assignments.
This class is film based with only three essays throughout the entire semester. A lot of time in class was spent on discussions, and the only homework was simple reflections. The textbook is not required and hardly ever referenced. As long as you follow the instructions you should get a good grade on the essays.
Eli is a great teacher but they took a very long time to grade essays so I didn't know how well I was doing in the class. The main homework is reflections and journal entries. Highly recommend taking his class
Professor Turner is a great dude. He grades essays fairly and helps you if you ask. A lot of the class is based around writing essays on movies. It's a very interesting class and he provides a meaning for English beyond just writing.
Great professor, one of my all-time favorites. He doesn't assign a ton of homework, is not a super hard grader, and his class is very film-based, so you get to watch some movies and a lot of videos. Overall a super chill, funny, kind, and helpful guy. I enjoyed the class for sure.
Eli is AMAZING!! Absolutely recommend.
This guy is so chill and a really good guy to learn from. He keeps lectures simple and easy to understand especially when introducing essay instructions or assignments. Likes to talk about food a lot so get a couple good dishes to discuss.
Eli was my favorite instructor. Although there are not many assignments, he gives clear criteria on what he wants on the papers. He is very understanding. You need to participate in class otherwise the class becomes very boring and dull.
Our professor was the best. He is so sociable and friendly with students. He talks during the lesson and his lectures are so interesting. he is so gooood. Believe me, Highly recommend
Takes things personally, get ready to be downgraded if he doesn't like you
Eli was a great professor! I loved the topics they were fun but still contained a lot of existential ideas that were interesting to explore. We watched movies and shows and discussed them in class for 2 out of the 3 units. Would ABSOLUTLY take again.
Very chill and friendly. Seems to genuinely want students to do well. Gentle grader if you follow the requirements, which are very accessible and he usually talks through them.
The class was a bit unorganized with the syllabus constantly changing and due dates being moved around, but it was manageable. Assignment rubrics were clear. Nothing was graded until very late in the semester, but as long as you stick to the rubric and put in the effort you should be fine. Pretty funny teacher.
He was a great professor! If you like watching movies this is the professor for you. The whole semester we would analysis different movies and compare them. Class discussions were really fun and interesting. Overall great teacher and good content.
While he took attendance, it did not really matter too much in my opinion. He does not grade things until the very end, but he did not grade harshly. As long as you do all the homework you'll be alright! If you enjoy analyzing and watching films this class is for you. There are textbook pages he posts on D2L, but nothing you have to buy yourself.
He is very clear in what is being graded and what the criteria is. An interesting teacher to be in class with, entertaining lectures and lots of jokes.
