Great teacher. If you don't take her your an idiot.
She teaches English and she didn't teach you the difference between your and you're. How good can she be?
I didn't like she was not very nice, and I would not take her class again.
Best teacher I had at Suffolk last term and this one. Wish we had more like her.
Although she is a very picky grader ( must have used a package of pens to correct my papers) she does help you alot in the class. Just do the work and readings, and follow her corrections in your essays, she loves grammar
one of the greatest teachers ever...just ask her about her husband, she really is very smart and helped me better my writing. take her
very good professor. very knowledgeable and helpful. i'll take her again as soon as i can.
okay so maybe its the class that sucks. shes nice but a little over zealous about the material. loootttts of reading.
A tough class with heavy but good reading. she is very smart and enthusiastic, and friendly and helpful too. She will take the time to help you if you seek it out. The best prof i've had at Suffolk.
She's not a bad teacher but the class sucks. She's really enthusiastic, knows what she's talking about, and wants to help anyone who wants to be helped. Lots of reading, but not too much work other than that.
awesome professor. really taught me how to think and learn in a whole new way. i wish i could take her again. she was seriously the best teacher i've ever had and so much fun!
very interesting course and reading. great prof. hard but worth it.
in between hard and easy but rude.
Excellent prof.
She was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, fair, helpful but gave lots of work and sometimes rude. I would take her but only once.
This is by far the best english class i have ever taken. class discussion and readings are amazing. i wish i could take her again and again and again.
Awesome reading, great class discussions. amazing prof. the best class i've ever had.
Life changing classes. Word.
I fell in love with her. I hope she leaves her husband for me.
She is the best. Definetly should take her. Shes very fun and clear with her work
Extremely smart and helpful professor. Not an easy A but if you do the reading, participate, attend class, and actually spend time on your papers you WILL get an A. She is always available for help and her midterm, etc is easy. Just do the work and you'll benefit a great deal from her classes.
I really liked this class. the readings were really interesting. the exams are really fair and the papers topics were really interesting too.
very intersting course with many good field trips and great reading. i loved it.
I agree, anyone who is writing nice things about this teacher was definitely a favorite. She picked a few kids she liked most and was extremely rude and condescending to others. Pays too much attention to grading unimportant and very detailed things. Don't take her.
This was a very good class for English Majors. The professor is extremely knowledgeable about her subject matter and very engaging. She loves teaching and always makes time for her students. Well worth it.
Super professor, very lively and engaging. Loves teaching and guiding students. Def one of the best classes i've taken at suffolk.
If you want an English class that is going to challenge you, and you want to learn from the class then defiantly. take Armbruster. She is very passionate about her work and she gets the whole class involved. Also is really helpful when it comes to writing papers and is very understanding. Would defiantly take her again!
The highlight of my four years at Suffolk. Best class I ever took.
this course offers lots of amazing reading and creative projects. the best class i ever took. wish i didn't graduate so i could keep taking her classes.
Extremely intelligent, enthusiastic about the subject and her students, very tough grader on papers but very willing to help her students and is very creative in getting everyone involved. You will get out of it what you put in, do the work, her classes are worth the extra time and effort.
took her freshman seminar about architecture. it was a dry class and wasn't thrilled with her until about half way through the semester when she warmed up to everyone. she ended up being very nice and i was upset to leave her class.
Professor is VERY interested in her readings. But one might find it very hard if one is not an English major. You also have to memorize and learn to interpret the readings too.
survey literature course with a prof that is lively and interested in students and teaching. some who could care less about english and learning and working hard may be intimidated but she is top notch.
She is so enthusiastic about readings! It's awesome! She loves perfect attendance and class participation. She wants a respectful class environment. The midterm and final make you feel like you're taking a history final b/c you have to memorize dates and bio. I love her though! She wants students to enjoy literature as much as she does!
Elif knows her stuff and she can answer any questions about the material. If you're mostly productive as a class she is open to lengthy diversions from the topic of discussion. However, her opinions are very strong and she's very VERY rigid with them. Don't be afraid to disagree, but you run the risk of being ostracized. Also a hard paper grader.
This was by far the best class I ever took at suffolk and I am so sad I am graduating because armbruster transformed me and my life. the readings in the class were amazing-especially some i knew like sylvia plath and anne sexton, but new ones who blew me away, anchee min, nella larsen, anzia yezierska. I could go on and on. the best. class. ever.
This was by far the best class i ever took at suffolk. the readings were amazing. class discussions are incredible. the professor is very knowledgeable the books and passionate about teaching. I wouldn't change a single thing about the class.
Professor Armbruster is by far the best instructor I've ever had. She's engaging, funny, and very open about herself and her life. She respects everyone's opinions and her classes generally go by quickly. I still stay in touch with her! Definitely recommend this class.
Best class I have taken at Suffolk yet. Her enthusiasm and knowledge brings the readings to life. Made me consider changing my major..
She is an amazing teacher and is passionate about her subject!! I really enjoyed this class and recommend it to everyone! And I recommend her to everyone!
Prof A is the best LIT teacher I ever had. She is very passionate about her work and class is a really great time! There is constant dialogue between her and the class which is great because most teachers just talk at you and then the students space out. Sweet and caring. If you need more time for an assignment just talk to her. She's the best!!
I think that Proff Armbruster might be my favorite yet. She truly makes me sad that I'm done with my English requirement now, because I could take her class a million times. She loves people that participate with you and will become your friend as well as your professor. My class ended up being like a book club. She loves to be challenged. 1010
The most enthusiastic professor I've ever had. She truly has a bright passion for what she does. She assigns a lot of reading and often assigns a two page hand written paper every now and then. I would take her class again.
Professor Armbruster is the best professor I have had at Suffolk! She is amazing! Our class was World Literature and it became like a bookclub between friends. She let us speak our minds even if she disagreed. Never wanted to miss a class. Always be honest with her and she'll respect you. All around great person. Would absolutely take her again!!
Professor Armbruster is my favorite professor at Suffolk. Not only does she love what she does, she makes you love it too! She inspires me to work harder and never give up! English 216 was a very interesting and thought provoking class! Our class was like a family and I will never forget all I learned from her. AMAZING.
The best professor I've ever met. She is absolutely a good start for me in Suffolk University. Prof. A inspired students on writing, and also gave me help on some other things. I would like to take her course again next year. She is the professor that will make you want to change major to English.
Elif is one of the best professors i've had at suffolk so far. She brings so much enthusiasm to class every day, and she really makes you want to learn.
Professor Armbruster is an amazing instructor that truly cares about how well her students perform in the classroom. She has an effective routine in place, so students know when assignments are due and what needs to be completed. She provides a daily calendar along with an easy to follow syllabus. Professor A provides feedback on every assignment.
Armbruster is my absolute favorite Professor. Shes quirky and fun, but also very serious about helping you succeed. I wouldnt want anyone else for my seminar Professor. Shes so clear about grading and expectations. Lots of extra credit opportunities and fair grading. I especially recommend her for your Freshman Seminar!
This was a life-changing seminar on women writers and their literary activism. I wish I could keep taking classes with Armbruster for the rest of my life. Openminded, brilliant, funny, and very enthusiastic. A gem of a professor. Loved it all.
Loved Armbruster's online course. Her youtube videos are short and sweet and perfectly encapsulate the readings. Weekly writing assignments were helpful. She made lots of contact with the class and I found it very nice online experience.
WOW. I am so lucky I signed up for Prof Armbruster for two classes my first semester at SU She is amazing! I love her already. She is so energetic and inspiring and really into her job and the readings and teaching us to write well. I feel so lucky to have her.
Switched into this class from a different seminar for freshman course and it was the best decision I made. Her assignments are very clear and she is not a hard grader. As long as you do your work you will do well.
I decided to take this class online during Covid before entering Suffolk and I can honestly say it's the best decision I could have made. This class was amazing and the professor is incredible. She showed up early to every zoom class and was always positive and engaging and she made me think alot! I loved all the readings so much too.
Really good teacher that seems to genuinely care about her students' success and well-being.
Definitely caring, but didn't really handle a lot of issues well or make good points. Also just didn't know how to use technology... the third semester into online teaching. Most assignments are easy but quizzes/final is insane. Class seemed interesting but she kinda killed it for me. And you don't have to read half the books, but get them anyway
I loved professor armbruster's class! She is a wonderful professor, and she is great to her students. You can tell she is passionate about what she does and what she teaches, her lectures are clear and engaging. This is a great class for anyone to take, for the lit requirement even if you're not too sure that you like reading and writing. You will!
This professor can make John Smith and John Winthrop interesting!!! I was not expecting that its amazing. Youd be lucky to have her for early American lit.
My 4th class with Prof A. Shes the best prof Ive had at Suffolk. She does it all from great classes to so nice outside of class to understanding and kind.
I did not understand my Eng213/214 classes at all. I was dreading taking another similar course as I found those to be challenging. However, Prof A entirely changed my views. Her lectures are extremely informative as she clearly breaks down the material. Also, she gives the best writing advice! Shes truly made an impact on my academic career.
I never looked forward to attending class after she accused me of not reading a book. She accused me of having my phone out during class when I didn't and said I did not have the books when I spent my money on all of them. She also talks about minorities and their experiences like they're her own. So much for a class about feminism.
Not understanding of students' extenuating circumstances. Doesn't make students feel valued in classroom. Weirdly tough grader, very anal about titles. Will interrogate students to see if they've readyou can get away without reading. Her version of feminism is very white and cishet. At least she's passionate about teaching.
Prof A's first year seminar was the best class I took at suffolk and I'm so glad I did. We read so many incredible authors like Alice Walker, Nella Larsen, Maya Angelou, and Roxane Gay--all women of color. The readings were so diverse and relevant. I feel so lucky to have learned so much about strong and rebellious women. Take this class.
Professor Armbruster definitely grades with a limited mindset, if your interpretation does not agree with hers, she'll let you know and she'll be tough on grading. Lectures weren't bad, but she's not very forgiving, make sure you read in this class. Honestly, would have enjoyed the course more if she was less rude.
I LOVE Professor Armbruster. She is so funny and very intelligent. She has many crazy stories from her past, and her class was amazing. If you can, take "Nasty Women of American Literature" it was a super awesome class. Not too many assignments.
Prof A is amazing. She is so enthusiastic about the literature and women writers and class is never boring. Discussions were fantastic. I feel like I learned more in this class than in any other class I've taken at Suffolk. I never missed a single class because I loved them all so much.
Great professor but she did not bother to learn our names. Also has a very strict no electronics policy so try to stay off your phone. Overall a great professor who is very passionate about her course.
This was the best class I've ever taken at Suffolk and I wish it didn't end. I loved everything about Prof A and Nasty Women in American Lit. Every single reading (most were on BB) was amazing and I learned so much about myself, my classmates, and women writers. Many of the writers were POC which I've never had in a class before. Great projects.
I had Prof A for Nasty Women in American Lit and was one of 5 guys in the class. It was a great class and I always felt like my opinion mattered and that Professor Elif really cared about all of us as students and our points of view. Class discussions were really great and lively. I loved the professor and the course, readings, and assignments.
This class was great with Professor Armbruster. She is a passionate and super energetic teacher who clearly loves literature A LOT :)))! We covered so much poetry and had creative writing assignments along with regular analytical essays. She is a fair grader and class discussion was always super lively. I loved everything about this class!
Be ready to do the readings. She believes in her interpretations for pieces of literature and often deters other's interpretations. There have been many instances of her being rude to students in front of the class. Pretty tough grader, I would get A papers from many other English classes but never got an A paper from her.
This class was wonderful and the prof is so knowledgeable. I learned so much.
perfect
I'm surprised by the amount of positive feedback for this Professor. Even more surprised to experience a professor who does not care about the growth of her students (with the exceptions of her favorites in the class). I would not take her again and I will let others know not to!
Prof A is really amazing. I loved our first year seminar. She is intelligent, inspiring and super energized by the assigned readings and by discussions. she loves her students and loves to teach. Prof A is a white cis woman-of course that's her POV. it's a credit to her that she teaches so many women of color in her class. Most profs never do. ~MM
So weird that ppl say Prof A doesn't value your opinion in class or plays favorites. I have never heard her criticize a student's POV ever and this is my 3rd class with her. She is openminded and brilliant and listens to and supports everyone, no matter what you say. I'm sure some students are intimidated by her. she is brilliant.
Prof A was super nice! I made some friends in his class and we all really liked her and thought she was super supportive. I would take this class again! She can be strict at times but in a reasonable way and overall I thought she was great!
Loved this class. I personally like having a strict teacher and Prof A was. But she was also incredibly supportive, caring, and funny; which is a hard mixture to find!! I thought it was also really awesome that she was accessible outside of class. I would take this class again; she made everyone feel welcome and this made me love her more!
RGNW was a great class to take freshmen year! Prof A was a great mentor and had so many amazing conversations with us. We read writers from all diff backgrounds and I learned SO much. There were all women in this class and most of them were amazing altho their were a who said they were "haters" and they were. They were like mean girls from 5th grade.
Prof A was good at explaining topics but if you didn't get the material still she made it clear that you can email her with any questions and feel free to ask for help.Super nice and accessible outside of class. She makes the class extra fun and interesting by having fun activities as well! I would take this class again.Great learning experience.
I'm grateful for the experience had in Professor Armbrusters class. Any class that has me thinking about my community and world in new ways is a success in my mind. Overall very creative, engaging and challenging.
ENG 200 for English Majors was an amazing experience and Prof A was the best professor I've had yet. I felt like I never wanted class to end. Every discussion we had, every reading we did was eye-opening and meaningful and I learned so much. I will be forever grateful for this class that taught me so much about reading and writing and thinking.
Lots of reading and homework but learned so much and grew as a thinker and a writer. So grateful for everything I learned from Prof A and our class.
The best class I had all semester and one of the best ever at Suffolk. Every reading was amazing, every class discussion was incredible, and I will always be grateful for the experience and knowledge I gained from this course. I will defintely take Prof A again as soon as I can.
I loved my first year seminar with Prof A. The class was all women and we read great books. Everyone loved it. It felt more like an amazing book group than a class because the discussions were so good. Rebel Girls Rule!
Love her.
ENG 158 on nasty women in literature was amazing, I loved all the readings by women. I loved focusing on women writers and everyone participated in class discussions. it was lively and fun and i feel like I learned ALOT compared to other classes I took. Highly recomend Prof A and her course!
Amazing course on nasty women writers like Maya Angelou, Sylvia Plath, Kate Chopin, Joy Harjo, and Chimanda Adichie and more. I loved all the readings and class discussions. I was never bored. I felt like I learned a ton. Homework was reasonable. Final projects were great. Highly recommended!!
The class itself was very reading heavy, but as long as you do the readings you'll be fine. My issues with Professor Armbruster came when she was rude to students and changed her syllabus half-way through the year without alerting anybody- resulting in many of us loosing significant credit. Overall she is a good prof, but lacks respect for students
I am currently taking SF1180 with prof a. The class is amazing and I love it. Students have become friends and we talk about how much we love the class.
Prof A's writing women course was life-changing for me. i had never taken a course that only had women authors in it. I felt really empowered in the class by the professor and my classmates. I loved the passion of the professor. it was obvious how much she cared about the content and us students. all around a really great experience for me!
There is a lot of reading but it is a normal amount for college reading. All the readings and class discussions were vey interesting and inspirational. As of the profesor, I cannot wait to take a class with her in the future; she will listen to the class' needs, she is helpful and an amazing human being which you can learn a lot from.
it was the best class I've ever taken and cannot sit to have her as my professor in the future. All the authors we discussed about were all women and everything was very interesting and empowering. The professor was inspirational and passionate about the topics. If you are a guy you should take this class too!
In general, I never enjoyed sharing ideas out loud but this class was amazing. It felt like a book club and I got to know my classmates! Every time we walked out of the classroom we would say how much we loved the class and other people in her other classes said the same
A lot of the readings were mind blowing, i learned a lot
I loved everything about this class from the professor to every single woman writer we read who was so empowering and inspiring. Iam so grateful that this was my first years seminar. As a woman from another country, i didn't know much about feminism in the US and i learned so much about being an empowered woman.
I strongly believe that everyone should take this course because of the knowledge that you acquire. The course dives deeper into the meaning of what a nasty woman represents and how they are seen in our daily lives from our strong female leaders to our mothers. Like Adiche says, everyone should be a feminist.
This class is my favorite class I've had so far at Suffolk. I loved how easy it was to talk to other students with the same mindset. Conversation flowed very easily when we were all talking about something we were passionate about. Everyone could share an idea they felt like talking about, something which some professors should learn from.Loved it!
Prof. A cares so much about this class and her students--she really wants everyone to succeed. One of the most passionate professors at this school. You definitely have to read a bit and participate in the class but if you do you will do very well and she will help you. Stop by her office-she's super sweet and understanding. Take her-awesome lady.
ENG 158 is the best class and I'm so glad I finally got to take it during my senion year at suffolk. I had heard great hings but it was even better than I could've imagined. So many amazing women writers and super creative and fun assignments that really helped me understand who the writers were as people. Prof A is so passionate and fun!
The class itself was not bad, and the material learned was overall pretty easy. However, the class was literally about women who did not conform to society standards and oppression (specifically speaking) but frequently would tell people to talk less or wouldn't let them contribute. Condescending and talks over people. Don't recommend her.
She's a great professor, very nice and seems to respect the rest of the class as much as they respect her. Would take one of her courses she's teaching again without any hesitation. Very sweet woman.
Worst professor you could take. I would cross the street without looking both ways when walking to her class. Her class revolves around white washed feminism. Elif herself is racist; it is blatantly apparent. There were numerous times when she was racist towards a friend in my class.
Taking World Lit with Prof A was one of the best experiences I've had at Suffolk. The readings ranged from stories and poems and plays to even a musical which was Amazing. I really love this class. Prof A and the students were so inspiring and I was able to bond with everyone. We had great field trips and projects. Everything was perfect. Highly rec.
for Eng 135, World Literature she grades very easily and loves participation and hearing your point of view on the readings. Although she was not organized at some times she wasn't a bad professor and is open to your input on what should be done in the class.
