though attendance is not mandatory it is probably best if you attend class as often as possible. Lecture really helps you understand the subject. if you need help she's good at being available outside of class hrs. She offers test review which are REALLY helpful. there isn't anything to hate about this professor. you need to do a lotof studyingthou
She goes quick but is really thorough. Her lectures are all online and attendance isn't mandatory but she writes on the bored a lot and gives helpful examples that you wouldn't get if you didn't show up to class. She also gives reviews for each test that are extremely helpful. All in all, if you put the work into the class you'll get a good grade.
Best teacher at ACC. She is VERY helpful and really helps you understand the material. I was afraid to take chemistry but I'm actually enjoying it! Take her if you want to understand what you are doing.
I was afraid of taking Chemistry because I have been out of school for 10 years, but Ms. Cooper made it easy to understand. She gives very helpful reviews and homework that will help out your final grade. I highly RECOMMEND this teacher, if you want to learn the information and make a good grade!!
this is my favorite teacher ever! general chemistry is not easy, but her lectures are so understandable. she also puts up slides for you to print and take to class for notes. tests are tough, but she prepares you. attendance is not required, but in order to succeed in this class you need to go! i didn't crack my book once.
TERRIBLE!! I took this professor because she had such great ratings. She talks to you like you're an idiot when you ask questions, moves super fast through slide shows, expects you to remember EVERYTHING from Chem I regardless how long ago it was. Did NOT have a good time in this class.
Okay yes its true, sometimes she does talk to u like ur stupid but she is not a horrible teacher. Shes not an easy A, especially if ur some1 who tends to slack, this is designed 4 students who need a strong Chem background n actually need/want to learn it! if u dnt then leave! Quizes r easy, test not so much, READ book & do hmwk! i did, n got an A.
Ok she is a good teacher BUT if you have never taken chemistry in HS or the intro course, Cooper WILL break you. I learned this lesson this semester. She builds off information you should already have before taking Chem I. I do highly recommend her though if Chemistry interests you or if chem is a strong part of your degree. Good teacher. A+
Dr. Cooper is a cool teacher. I will be taking her for CHEM 2. She is extremely organized and has everything at your disposal. It is up to you as a student to learn it. Her labs are MANDATORY and pretty straight forward. She gives great reviews and gives you plenty of prep time for the EXAMS. She also gives you extra opportunities to earn EC!
The class overall is relatively easy. There are reviews for every test. Sometimes her answers are wrong to the problems in class and on the review questions. The FINAL is comprehensive and CRAZY hard but she curves the grade.
Take Dr. Cooper if you want to understand chemistry. She can be a little abrasive at times, but usually to students who are obviously not putting in enough effort (read the book B4 going for office help). She gives lots of opportunities to earn points, make up points, and get a good grade! One warning: STUDY for the final--it's brutal.
professor Cooper really helps you understand the concepts that she is teaching. There are 3 tests and a final. there are 4 quizzes she drops the lowest one and the final can replace your lowest test grade. she gives partial credit on tests even if the answer is wrong and lots of extra credit. homework due every week. slide show printouts for class.
I had abstly no intrst in Chem prior to this course. The 1st lectre she changed my mind. Now I'm looking forward to lecture. She explains throughly&very easy to keep up w/. Helpful if you have Qs. Organized, very nice, available OHrs. Tests are hard but doable. Posts notes on Bb so no need to buy tbk. She made me LOVE Chem. Prof. Cooper is AMAZING!
If you pay attention and study, you should do fine. She also has a very easy grading scale. Do the homework, it helps a lot.
she's very helpful and nice. She's also very clear and concise. definitely recommend.
I loved this class!!! Dr. Cooper made it extremely interesting and enriching. I would look forward to the lectures every day! Gives homework, reviews for tests, and even notes on chapters as well as puts up the lectures. Do the homework, go to class, do the reviews and you'll be fine! P.S. she's so0o adorable!!!!
Knows chemistry and does a great job of sharing that knowledge. You have to work for the grade but you'll leave knowing the material. Definitely recommend her!
Dr. Cooper was always very helpful. She made Chemistry a lot more understanding and interesting than I would have ever expected. The material was difficult but she was very easy to talk to and always willing to help! Great teacher, take her if you can!
The course changed my opinion of chemistry as something I'd have to tolerate for the sake of my degree plan to becoming a serious contender for my minor, primarily because Dr Cooper helped make the subject so interesting. If chemistry is in your degree plan, this is the course to take.
Had her for Chem I & II. A is definitely possible in both just attend class and work the examples. Homework grade replaces lowest test grade. Very fair grading. One of the most intelligent professors I have ever had including all my business profs from undergrad. Environmentally friendly labs she wrote herself. Wish she taught organic. Excellent!!
I am now a chem major after attending her class. Took both chem I & II, attending class is essential and taken into consideration for a reason. Incredibly intelligent and helpful teacher, all you have to do is ask. Comes off as tough-loving but definitely cares and my favorite teacher of all time!!!
I will start by saying Dr. Cooper is very knowledgeable in Chem and also a nice person. That being said, her class was unnecessary hard. The material for the second exam was what most of my friends in gen chem did at the very end. Her test are tricky and confusing. I am a straight A student and had to drop her class. Great lady, but I would pass
Professor Cooper is one of the most clear lecturers I've ever had. She doesn't set you up for failure- she actually sets up the grading system for you to pass, you just have to try! She also succeeds in making chemistry interesting. I have a new profound respect for it. Would definitely get her as a teacher again
She's a great teacher, although her delivery is very dry and sometimes unhelpfully sarcastic. She was a very fair grader, and gave ample opportunity to make up for areas where you are weak. Very available over email. Her lecture slides were amazing.
Dr. C is extremely intelligent, fair, through, and puts herself in the shoes of students. If you practice by reworking lecture and homework problems until you've got them down you will do well in her class. She doesn't write easy tests, but she does give you the opportunity to replace one test with the homework! One of my favorite teachers!
You have to work extremely hard because the material is tough, but the class is overall enjoyable. Be prepared to log in a lot of study hours though.
Dr. Cooper is awesome! Her lectures are so thorough, and very understandable. I've had chemistry professors do the bare minimum and teachers go way over my head before, she was totally balanced, expects a lot but gives you everything you could possibly need to keep up.
Dr. Cooper makes up all her own labs. Every other chemistry class I've had has been completely on different pages for lecture and lab, not hers! Even if don't have her for for lecture and lab, you'll be amazed at how perfectly the labs match up to what you're actually learning. Love her!
Her lectures are pretty organized. Test can be very difficult however. You have to be very confident that you have learned the material before you go in and take a test in order to make an "A."
Prof. Cooper is wonderful -- a great teacher. If you do the work, attend class, and study a bit, you'll get an A. She's not an "easy grader" -- like you have to actually know the stuff, but she is really interested in student success. So nothing is tricky or a surprise. She'll go over problems with you, etc. Would highly recommend.
She is a great teacher but she goes a little fast in lecture and you have to really pay attention to keep up. She gives you her powerpoint presentation slides ahead of time which makes note-taking easier. Exams are reasonably easy as long as you study and do the homework.
I took it over the summer 6 week session. Quizzes were a bit harder than tests. I got B's on the tests lol and a 78 on the final. I was at an 87 at the end and somehow still got an A in the class. Great teacher I think she is flexible on the grading scale as in my case.
Dr. Cooper is fantastic. I am not good at chemistry and consequently needed quite a bit of extra help, but she had no problem with me showing up to office hours every day and asking her a ton of questions. She is really clear during lectures and her labs are super fun. I wish that all science professors were this great.
Just learn from her powerpoint presentation slides and the practice test questions, then you'll be fine. HW and quizzes are quite similar. So make sure do the homework.
Just learn from the powerpoint presentation slides and the practice test questions, then you'll be fine. HW and quizzes are quite similar. So make sure do the homework.
Professor Cooper was a good chem lab teacher. I had her for the lab only, and hadn't take Chem 1 in a year and still thought the class was a breeze. You hardly need her for the labs, but if you do she answers questions politely. She doesn't like if you come unprepared, so just do the prelab work and you'll be fine.
Dr. Cooper is overall a very caring individual who wants her students to learn. She flys through lectures and you often understand it, but by the time the quizzes/hw come along it is harder. Study hw for quizzes and test reviews completely for tests. SI is great. Manageable B if you work hard and study and tough A is studying and going above/beyond
Really enjoyed Dr. Cooper's class. She's smart, fun, and very knowledgeable about her field. I sometimes asked her about concepts that went beyond the scope of the course and she was always willing and able to explain. She gives a lot of extra credit on tests, so it's fairly easy to do well in the class.
I liked Dr. Cooper a lot. She has great notes and is very knowledgeable about chemistry. I would definitely recommend her.
LOVE Dr. Cooper. She's very knowledgeable and explains everything really well. I used to hate chem but she def changed my mind! I made sure to take her again for Chem II and for lab. Quizzes and tests arent that bad if you do the hw and study. Do all the hw and you dont have to take the final! (that's if you dont fail a test). Labs are easy too.
She is the best science teacher I've ever had! I took her for lecture and lab, which made it easier. She takes time to explain things multiple times if needed, but usually doesn't need to because she is very good at funnelling down her immense amount of knowledge to a more digestible level. Do yourself a favor and take her if you need this class.
Still rating Dr. Cooper with a 5 after taking her again for Chem (and lab) 2. She knows what she's talking about and you can tell she has a lot of interest in chem. Chem 2 is definitely harder, but as long as you try and do the homework, you are good to go (coming from someone that's more math oriented). Going to miss her a lot!
Clear and easy to follow powerpoint lectures, which are accessible on blackboard. 12 online quizzes that follow each chapter that count towards your final grade. Subject material is tough but if you put the work in, study and utilize the chapter reviews and practice papers, you should be able to get a good grade. I wouldn't recommend missing class
Dr Cooper is an amazing teacher. I would absolutely take her again! She explained everything clearly and was upfront about what to expect on tests. Almost all the content for her class is from lectures so I wouldn't recommend missing class. She also provides an equation sheet during tests, so you almost never have to memorize formulas. Amazing!
Really cool, down to earth professor. I hate chemistry, but enjoyed her class. Shes slightly late (day before class) w/notes and lab assignments, but not a deal breaker for me. Wish she taught O Chem. She can be snippy at times, but has every right to be Bc it was @ students who cant follow clear directions. She was very nice to ppl who try hard.
Dr. Cooper is great and I highly recommend taking her for Chem II. She is very clear on expectations of her students, so I would not take this class lightly. You earn your grade, but she is always there to help. Practice the reviews, homework and ask questions in class and office hrs. Her grading is tough, but fair with EC. Awesome prof!
This professor is probably one of the smartest people I've ever met. She's good at explaining complex things and works out problems of each type in class. She posts her lectures online so you can take notes on top of hers. She's very helpful, and I'd definitely take her class again. One of the hardest classes I've taken, but I learned so much.
Incredibly intelligent, interesting, and really gives her all to make Chemistry accessible to anyone. The class is flipped where you do take notes on lecture videos for homework and do problems in class with other people. If that sounds daunting, don't let it be! It's a good system she's got down. Use the various options for help if you need it!
Professor Cooper's lectures were always very detailed; however, she tends to go a little too fast, so if you are one of those people who like to write down everything, I suggest you either record the lectures, or go along with her power points. We had a total of 5 exams, but the last one is optional!!
The labs were fairly easy in this class. Most of the time you are working by yourself, following directions in your lab manual, or directions explained by her at the beginning of the class. The lab reports are always due at the end of class and there is always a quiz from the previous lab class. You can use handwritten notes!
She is very detailed and breaks her teaching down well. Her flipped class method of teaching is the best. I am now in grad school and i still refer to her notes. I wish she teaches all my courses.
One of the best professors I've ever had. I hated chemistry before I had her. Lectures are interesting and easy to follow. Tests follow material well- no curve-balls, has astudy session before each test. Offers plenty of extra credit- 10 pts per test, plus 15 pts (about 1 gp) for the class. Labs are AMAZING. Organized, and always prepared.
Prof Cooper is great! Took her for the accelerated 8-week chem 1 class. She is very clear about what she will test on, and is good at explaining concepts. She is a fair grader and gives ample partial credit. Opportunities for extra credit on tests, most exams a math-based but she gives great reviews. Do the practice tests before taking the exam!
Cooper knows her stuff. She doesn't use a textbook, so make sure you either attend lecture & take notes on the slideshow or get into a group chat so you can get notes if you have to miss class. She makes sure you really understand the math and concepts before digging into the meat of chemistry. Provides worksheets to help you practice out of class.
Shes great! Shes fast to respond to emails. Dont be afraid to ask questions. Do all homework study for quizzes utilize the old exams as study material and take time to study an hour a day and you can get an A. I really enjoy her lectures and the way she breaks down her lessons to make it simple. Take her!
You don't need the textbook just really practice. Make sure to study the reviews (they will help you on exams A LOT). Fair grader, very intelligent, and is a fantastic professor. She is great at explaining complex concepts and is very approachable. I will be taking her for the rest of my Chemistry sequence. I highly recommend taking Dr. Cooper!
elisa cooper is by far the worst science professor I have ever encountered. She is inaccessible when you have questions and deadlines are involved, and she has this "you should already know this" attitude. Would not recommend her to my worst enemy.
Professor Cooper is a good explainer of concepts in Chemistry. She knows what she is talking about. However, her lectures are pre-recorded videos, not real-time discussions. She has many available office hours but her class felt largely self-paced. In addition, homework was optional.
she posts wrong answers and doesn't even fix it. Really bad with replying emails. handwriting is illegible so whatever she writes doesn't really help. There will be 2 extra credit questions given but there's no partial credits. If you get a number off, then that's 0. No multiple choice. cares about sig figs a lot. If you try hard, you'll learn tho
Dr. Cooper is a great choice for Chemistry if you're actually passionate about learning it. The lectures are all pre-recorded and the tests are open-note but are very difficult if you don't study or practice. Provides great feedback on labs and is good at answering questions and emails.
I do not recommend Dr. Cooper. Her class is challenging. I have taken classes from all over for credit transfer to my university, and hers was by far the worst. Course is not out to that many points, and she grades hard, so there is very little room for error.
Dr. Cooper is one of my favorite professors ever. I was terrified to take Chem II, but she is excellent at explaining difficult concepts. The class wasn't easy, but she gives you all the resources you need to get an A — you just have to put in the time and work. She gives plenty of practice problems and is also a very fair grader.
Dr. Cooper is a fanatic professor. If you're heading into a science heavy field, she is a great professor to prepare you for future classes. Yes, there are prerecorded videos but they are very thorough and it does require you to be more self paced. She definitely is a hard grader but at the same time she gives you like all the materials needed.
She has a condescending tone, but I don't think she's mean. She expects you to know things once you've learned them. Quiz after labs. Easy "Homeworks". Practice worksheets REALLY help for tests. 1 sheet of paper, front + back, as notes for tests. Tests had 2 extra credit problems. Always willing to help understand. Very intelligent. I loved her!
Dr. Cooper is not here to be your friend, unless your friends are as condescending when answering questions as she is, in which case I believe you should get new friends. If you can get past that, her lectures are excellent, her explanations interesting, and she gives multiple homework assignments that will help boost your grade.
A great outline for the course. As a type A personality I really appreciated that about her. I dropped the class due to her arrogant attitude & the way she treated students. As a professional going back to school I felt bullied & talked down to. It wasn't healthy to be in a class where I felt belittled for asking questions when I didn't understand.
Excellent teacher - I'm terrible at chemistry and she was by far the best instructor I've ever had in this subject. The notes page we were allowed to use on tests was very helpful. Super important to keep up with the homework.
I got an A in this course and actually learned the material but Dr. Cooper's attitude is the reason for the low rating. The way she talks to her students is unacceptable. If the way in which you are treated is something you can overlook, take her. But if not, it isn't worth it. You will walk out of class every day feeling bad about yourself.
dr cooper is clearly passionate abt what she teaches and wants to see her students suceed. however more often than not (and im sure she doesnt intend to) she can come off as incredibly condescending to students when they dont get how to do something.....and as someone who has attention issues it definitely bogged down the experience for me
Loved her class setup. I went to class in the beginning but eventually stopped going in person (she works on practice questions in class, lectures are recorded - kept up w the lectures & studied on my own). It all depends on you and your study habits. Exams were online and available for a week - so we had flexibility on when to take it.
Dr Elisa coopers Video lectures are incredible and a great resource to learn and study from, they tell you everything you need to know for the test. Her flipped course style is very effective for people who are self teachers and dont like to be restrained by course paces.
If you care about school, but struggle in chem she's a great choice. Super willing to explain your mistakes, gives a lot of partial credit, and the recorded lectures are organized to make it easy to return to individual topics later without skipping around in an hour long video. Put in the work and you'll come out on top.
Dr. Cooper was adamant about never teaching 1305, that she really was a micro professor. Her lectures moved way too fast to understand. And there was no synchronicity with the concurrent lab class. She was friendly enough, but when reviewing grades for exams the class was berated for having such low grades in "a high school chemistry class".
Has lecture videos you can watch on your own and she goes over examples. Homework wasn't too bad. The tests were what got me, i wrote lots of note from the lectures but they didn't correlate to the tests so it was hard to study for them.
Overall an okay professor but I would avoid if chemistry is hard for you. Not an interactive class. She does a few questions on a worksheet herself. Flipped lecture. Berates students during lecture for almost an hour after exams for not doing well. Definitely check your graded work because she sometimes marks things wrong when they are right.
This class is not for the weak. I studied for weeks prior to the first exam and when I took it it was practically nothing we learned in class and I made a 35%. I noticed some answers were right, but graded wrong I emailed her about it and she told me I had "no basis to ask for a regrade." Overall she's a very rude woman, I will never take her again
She has a rude attitude. Homework's are ok, exams are not easy but doable the class in general is a 4 /10
She is extremely knowledgeable and good at explaining concepts. The worksheets she gives are adequate to prepare you for the test, and she gives you so many opportunities to do well in the class. I can see how some people might think she's condescending, but it's only if you repeatedly disobey her lab instructions. So just follow the directions!
Has a flipped classroom, lectures via videos and in-person is for practice. Can be quite picky with cheating on tests, but she literally allows you a cheat sheet page front & back so if you are cheating, you don't belong in the class tbh. Takes a lot of points off for sig figs, but I enjoyed how easy she made a lot of the content. Practice is key!!
If you just want a C this will be an easy class because of how forgiving it is however if you want an A you better study!! She allows 1 page of notes front and back. The tests are extremely difficult until you know to pay attention to her review before test. I took this class to learn chem and I learned a lot from her class. I would take her again.
entire class is flipped. videos and pdf with notes go first before the class (homework is given and is due right before the class) but the lecture isn't really teaching more so practicing the stuff from the videos. she assumes you already know the stuff she went over even if it's difficult, since she understands it she expects you to.
Cooper is a tough love, no nonsense professor. She can be condescending and discourages class participation. But if you can get past that AND be ok with her flipped class style (watch videos and do HW at home, class is for practice problems), AND work hard, you can learn a ton from her. It's up to you what your goals are. NOT an easy A
DO NOT TAKE THIS UNLESS YOU'RE WILLING TO RISK YOUR GPA. Chem 2 is hard as is, but she makes it worse. Exams are 90% of your grade, homework barely counts, and I spent days studying yet it wasn't enough. Had to take a W so I don't have to accept a D. (A in Chem 1 btw). You're also expected to watch the lectures and do the HW before each class.
Chem 2 is HARD regardless! Dr. Cooper knows her stuff, lectures are great, she breaks down content so it is understandable. Flipped classroom allows you to watch lectures at your own pace. Grade is 85% Exams (1 pg front/back cheat sheet), partial credit, and 15% HW. DO the practice problems and you WILL succeed and make an A. Not a low effort class
Dr. Cooper's class is flipped, so lectures are pre-recorded videos uploaded to her YouTube. When you attend the lecture, she'll summarize the videos and provide extra details on key points to remember. USE THE LECTURE TO ASK QUESTIONS. Homework is due 5 minutes before each class and is usually 5 multiple-choice questions Test Heavy, so don't slack!
Dr. Cooper is definitely fair. She provides students with plenty of practice problems. Do the practice examples until you can complete them without looking at your notes, and you should be able to score well on her tests. Set aside a decent amount of time for this class, especially if you feel like your chemistry foundation is not very sound.
