Professor McLaren is a professor from UNLV who is teaching at CCSN Henderson. She is caring and passionate about English. In her own words, "I will give you my 100% help" She is great. Lots of work but its worth it.

I am currently taking Professor McLaren this semester. I have mixed feelings about her though. She is a little impatient but she means well. We are going to have one oral presentation in November in our groups though so it isn't that bad. The only thing I do not like are her reading materials are way too difficult for a 101 class.

Very helpful and sincere. Also very fair grader and has a great relationship with students. Everyone should sign up for her classes.

She is great, and has a cool sence of humour. I was taking her eng232, she is extremly helpful! even if the material is hard (most of the time) she makes it look so easy. She covers everything that you need to know for the exam; so try not to miss the classe :)

She is awesome. As long as you can stand her sarcasm you will be fine. She is a very proficient teacher. She used to teach at the university so she prepares for the next level. I would highly recommend her for any english class.

Ms. Mac is awesome. She lets deadlines slide, and usually, you get the last month and a half off to work and finish your papers at your own pace.

I recieved an A in her 102 class. She was easy for me, because I wrote all my essays and submitted them on time. I've stayed after class and heard students who asked her why they received B's on their papers(which is the lowest grade she gives)She paid more attention to students who needed more help with their essays.

This class is so easy. We didnt really do anything the last half of the class.

This is the only class that I have had where on one dropped. Everyone stayed from beginning to end because it was so easy.

class was really easy got a easy A and then after I was starting to be absent because I notice we didnt do anything the last half semester of class and class was bs. She didn't read my essay and just gave me B's for the last 2. She tries to be funny but she inst. Overall its a easy class.

I took her for English 101, 102, and will take her for 231. If you haven't noticed, I like her. In fact, she's one of my favorite teachers. One of the funniest, most down to earth teachers who actually cares about her students. Her classes are not too difficult, and she is always willing to sit down and listen to and problems/concerns you may have.

she is honestly the nicest teacher i have ever had. she is always more than willing to accept late work. she even would smoke cigs with me as we talked about politics-she was amazing

She is a wonderful teacher!!! I am not a big English fan but she made me love coming to class. There are a lot of essays you have to write but that is ENG 101 for you. If you do your work and read the required pages you will do fine. Wonderful teacher. Great sense of humor.

Great teacher! I loved this class. You have to write like four essays but she is very helpful and considerate. Accepts late work and wants her students to pass. She is very funny too. I would take her again in a second.

Tests are about 25 short essay question,does good review sessions, you must read evey word or you will miss some test questions. Lots of reading,lots! About 5 tests, 1 presentation in front of class. This class is about ancient literature, Trojan war, etc. If you don't like that stuff this class will be extra hard! Not an easy class, must read alot

She is a great teacher very helpfull and easy to talk to.

I was take her in summer which is tough session,but she make it easy for you.Have a question? Ask her,she will answer you. There is no doubt for that.Though I didn't get good grade{D}, I blame myself not her.Eng102 was hard to me since I didn't take 101.

sooo much reading!!! anywhere from 20-70 pages of reading a night! theres a few papers, 1 presentation, and 4 short answer exams. beth is not too difficult but i found her a little too sarcastic and not completely helpful. overall a fairly easy class if u do the work.

Beth is brilliant. IF YOU SHOW UP TO CLASS, YOU WILL PASS. She tells you what she wants for the test. She's funny. Pay attention, takes notes, and don't play "dumb" with her.

Beth is just simply fantastic! She is funny and so intelligent she'll make your head spin. She's also VERY helpful. All you have to do is say the word and she is right there to help you with anything you need. My only regret is that I don't have to take any more classes with her. She really is that good. Show up, do the reading and participate!

Great teacher, very helpful & a nice person. The only bad side is she brings her political bias out in class.

McLaren is hilarious, she is very sarcastic and can come off as a bit blunt, but she does promote class participation in discussions and really does read and pick a part papers. Sometimes her due dates and guidelines can be confusing but her class is a breeze otherwise. Those who get offended by her sarcasm obv have not stepped in the real world.

Beth is fun and sarcastic. She comments on your papers very well and as long as you improve, you will get a good grade. I hate English but she made it fun. She's kinda like an older hippie wearing jesus sandals and circular glasses - love her!

She is a very good teacher, but not easy. If you make a mistake she lets you know. She knows her stuff well and is friendly. She does want class discussion so you have to do the reading or she will call you out on it.

McLaren is awesome! Took English 232 over summer with her. Alot of reading, but if you keep up class is easy! Tells you what will be on tests. Loved her wit and humor. Would take again!

As much as I hate English, having her as a teacher wasn't bad at all. She was very clear, had humor, and made a class I didn't want to take very tolerable. While there were some hard parts, the way she tought made it everything easier.

I am currently taking her 101 class and I must say she is one of the best teachers I've had. I love her personality and how helpful she is. As long as you participate and stay off your cell phone you should be fine. She's very willing to help anyone who needs it

Try to take the class in person as it is very interactive & informative. Crystal clear on instructions. How-to-do discussions on upcoming assignments are extremely helpful. Can tell you how to improve your paper/writing in a way that is applicable and comprehendible. Many papers T/O semester, but learn plenty. Not an easy A, but highly recommended.

This class was pretty enjoyable. She has a sarcastic sense of humor and is fairly opinionated, both which may offend some.. If you ask for help she will help. No quizzes or tests! Just a couple written assignments. You get to pick your own topic and use it to write the little, as well as the long one at the end of the semester. Would take again! :)

She is extremely knowledgable and really knows what she is talking about. She is very sarcastic which makes some of the classes pretty entertaining. She's very nice though. As long as you read what you are supposed to read by the next class and give some sort of input in the class, you will pass. Just put effort into it!

one of the best english professors i have ever had. her technique in teaching allows you to actually learn and utilize the writing lessons for future classes. she is super funny and knows her stuff. just pay attention, follow her teachings exactly, and ALWAYS participate. she will go out of her way to help you get an a.

Took her 102 class. There were a lot of essays, and reading but I learned more from her than any of my other English teachers. Gives a lot of extra credit to help boost your grade, always willing to help if you have any problems. Great teacher!

Great teacher, but I did one paper exactly as she told me, and she still gave me a "c", ruining my 4.0. Be very careful with your final drafts.

ENG is not a subject that I like, but I received an A in this class. This class is easy IF you do exactly what is expected. Students make this class harder than it really is. Dr. McLaren is VERY helpful and understanding. I will definitely take her for any other ENG classes that I need to take.

I took her for English 101 and then English 102 online. Shes an easy professor as long as you follow directions. I am takinf her eng 231 class next semester. Shes a good online teacher and shes fun in class as well.

She is very clear what she wants, very humorous and helps you as long as you need until you get it. You have to write a lot of papers but some are 1 pg and others are 2-3 pages then you have a final that is 6-8 pgs highly reccomnend her, if you wnat a funny and not hard professor who makes english easy.

McLaren was quite amusing. She gives a few simple assignments but has relatively high expectations for them. However condescending she may be, she answers question all day every day! Very helpful, very witty, and a very good class. Just don't bring up sports... She will destroy you!

Prof McLaren is always helpful, and you will go over everything NUMEROUS times until you absolutely have to understand it. Her grading is VERY fair, and quite easy. She's a wonderful professor and doesn't require you to attend class but don't slack off and wonder why you have a low grade.

Excellent teacher. She is smart, informative, and not afraid to be straight with what she means. She is very humorous! But mostly, she is well-rounded with a great understanding of the world around her. She motivates students to write and encourages them, very much like both a guide and friend. If you do the work in this class, you will succeed :)

She is very straightforward and is not afraid to speak her mind. She is very funny in terms of using sarcasm. She can be critical, but by the end, you will be thankful for it.

This professor is amazing! As long as you do your work and come to class, it is almost impossible not to pass with an A or B. Very easy, interesting, and good class. Pays attention to the students questions and is there to help. Responds to emails as soon as possible. Amazing teacher, cant wait to take her again!

Took her SUMMER course; 6 weeks! Each week had a decent amount of work, not too much not too little. You're gonna have to read, write, and analyze. I absolutely LOVE english, its my favorite subject so her assignments weren't nothing, but If you aren't a fond of english, maybe you're gonna have to work a little harder but it's pretty easy!

VERY EASY! I LOVED this class! Writing and revising essays was all we did and very simple readings. I would take her again.

I took ENG231 online, and although the directions weren't entirely clear for the semester, a few emails back and forth and there was clarity. She doesn't give feedback unless you ask, and I have a feeling that asking too often would cause me problems. Online class requires one to teach oneself. She grades generously and the feedback confirmed this.

I've taken her twice. She is tough but if you write well thought out papers and engage in discussion, you will pass. She's really passionate. She allowed me to switch from in class to online; mid-semester, due to work schedule changes. Don't get her started on the 49ers. hah

Prof. McLaren was a great teacher. She is very responsive and gives great corrective feedback. She grades fairly and the course material wasn't daunting. I took this class online and enjoyed it!

The literature that is chosen is very interesting and fun to read :) even though its an online course I feel that it is still very interactive. The essays are opinion based and very fun to wright. She allows for creative thinking and freedom to write (with guidelines of course).

You have to do the assignments to pass the class. Some books are required throughout the semester, but they're really cheap online or if you know your way around the internet. Overall I liked this class, the books are awesome. Gives feedback on assignments. Does not accept late work. Grade based off of points earned on all assignments.

Awesome professor, she wants every student to succeed. English is not my favorite subject, but she kept me engaged throughout the semester.

Lots of papers, but no busywork. I believe that prof. McLaren has a very good method for teaching her students how to improve their writing. The reading can be dry, and the writing tedious, but you should be satisfied by the end of this course.

Absolutely amazing! She was so nice and genuinely funny. We talked about our work in assigned groups. I've never liked groups, but this was different. It was nice to get a different point of view. She gives great feedback and tells you what you need to do. No tests or quizzes. There were a lot of papers, but most were just editing the same paper.

I took her online class and it was really easy. There are assignments every week but you just have to read and do study questions, a discussion post and sometimes a position paper. You have to buy several books for assignments but they are cheap. We never used a textbook. By far one of the easiest classes I have ever taken.

Every week is a questionnaire and a paper due. She is a tough grader and expects big answers to small questions. Say a lot when you answer. Have strong opinions when writing papers and back up your opinions with research. Use all your resources. Youtube, spark notes, etc. The books are very hard to understand. She will not go easy on you.

She's a great person and teacher. She might weird you out on the first day... but it's the first day. I ended up liking her a lot. Allows you to manage your working time and she'll recommend what you should have done... obviously there's a due date for the essays. SO DONT PUSH IT!

Loved this course! As a four week summer class online, I was able to do all of the work each week within one day. You read about two plays a week (FREE ONLINE PDFS), then answer 8-12 questions based on the reading about simple plot points. One discussion post per week, 400 word minimum, which is quite simple once you read the plays/poems. EASY A!

I took this as a 4 week summer course. She doesn't explain where to get each story from. She needs to clarify in her syllabus which version of each story she wants her students to read to minimize confusion (no textbook). Also, a few assignments she should've been more clear on. Amount of reading required was manageable while working fulltime.

I really liked this class and the prof's assignments. You have group peer reviewing each class on your homework assignment. She isn't very clear on some of the instructions for the assignments but if you ask her after class, she'll explain more. I would take this class again because I love her discussions and her views on the topics we talk about.

Her syllabus is admittedly vague, so make sure to triple check to make sure you have all criteria mentioned. You have a lot of academic and creative license to write. This course is entirely what you make of it, she doesn't do any direct lectures so it's a lot of reading and question answering.

Its an English class so expect papers and reading. Overall an easy class if you enjoy reading long readings. We did use the book, so be prepared to buy it. Try and find it used already way cheaper. The only "bad" thing is she is a SLOW grader, but still a good professor.

The instructor is not friendly, but she does her job, and will crankily make sure you know how to write well and follow directions. This teacher was excellent at preparing me for future classes.

Dr. McLaren is the example of "tough love".She is tough, if you power through the first couple weeks, you'll be glad you did. She is knowledgable and has expectations of everyone to be giving effort, even if you're lost, try and ask for help.She will gladly help and you will succeed in her class and become a better writer.She appreciates dry humor

In this literature course, she expects decent writing and if you don't show up with putting effort in and writing knowledge, don't bother. As simple as that. She knows if you've done the reading or if you're bs your way through, she is fair with her grading. And if you show actual interest, she is witty and relatable to converse with.

Set reading for a story every week or other week, including usually two written responses that need to be 400 words or more. 7 total position papers that make up more of your grade and need to be about 2 pages long at least. She reads EVERYTHING that you write, so don't try to get away and write filler because she will see it. Responds quickly.

Pretty easy going class as long as you don't forget to turn in something. Canvas is a little messy and she will give you missings that are meant for next semester on the canvas. The weekly readings are always pretty short too if you're super busy. Certain modules were just empty. As long as you follow the directions you should be fine!

The course was very well structured and you know what to expect each week. The syllabus says it all. Reading was actually pretty enjoyable and there are modern English translations of the books at the library.

Some may consider her difficult and demanding in work assigned and expectations for you in the class but that's good. Humbles you. I learned how to persevere and work hard for my grades in her class.
