She's a really good teacher to get
I would not take Math 111 with Peters. She rushes through material and does not explain problems well. I have never struggled with math until this class. Does not care about her students success. Tests are extremely difficult.
Ms. Peters was great! She posted guided notes that went along with each lecture in class. She also made herself available to help whenever. Peters doesn't take attendance, but I would recommend going to class so you don't get behind on the material.
Ms. Peters was great. She makes it easy to understand! She gives partial credit on tests if you show work so that helps a lot. Very helpful & makes herself available for you!
Ms. Peters is such a wonderful professor! This is coming from someone who is mathematically challenged by the way. Her help that she provided was phenomenal. The actual class material was hard for me, but she was there to guide me along the way. She always has her office hours open, and is willing to help. Extra credit before final was life saving.
Ms. Peters is a total sweet heart. Calculus is near impossible for me but I spent many days a week in her office getting extra help and it helped my grade tremendously. Although her office hours are short, she always makes time for her students who need the help. She will go out of her way to help you and even answers questions via email.
I'm not a math person and she was a good teacher. Most of the learning I did was through my studying and looking over my notes and learning from that. The homework online is nothing like in class or on the tests. The study guides are always harder than the tests.
Peters is wonderful! She has office hours where you can ask questions. She offers group quizzes often, so as long as you study, you will make good grades. She drops lowest quiz grade and will replace lowest test grade with your final exam grade. Also gives 10 points on final exam if you complete a 120 question study guide. So helpful!
Professor Peters is one of the nicest professors I have ever had. She cares about students and is always working to the best of her ability to teach us well and prepare us for tests, quizzes, and future courses. However, this class is HARD. She gives harder tests and quizzes than other teachers, so prepare to struggle if you are not studious.
She's knows her stuff and is good at explaining the information. She cares about her students so if you need help just ask! She posts notes online before class. Homework is due every Friday. Most of the quizzes you can work with a group so they're easy. Tests are pretty easy just study and pay attention in class and you should get an A.
Prof. Peters was really nice and funny. She was a pleasure to have as a teacher. She knew everything she was teaching and she was good at it. I am personally not good at Trig but she made it a lot easier. She does really good with feedback if she's wrong on the board and gets corrected she like thank you and very understand 10/10 would recommend.
She is a fantastic MATH 111 teacher! She is always open for student questions/office hours. In her class we use an online math software called ALEKS, which is pricey but helpful. The test are short (8-9 questions) and the quizzes are shorter (5-6 questions). There are four test and a quiz every Friday. Highly recommend her!
She is such an amazing professor! She really took the time to get to know all her students and cared a lot about your success. Take her class you wont regret it.
Ms. Peters is a really nice person, but not the best teacher. She goes kind of fast with the notes, and isnt the best at explaining things. Lots of formulas for the tests, but she gives partial credit on every question which is great. She does not take attendance. Finish all homework by the end and you get extra credit on final exam.
Versatile way of teaching that caters to many learning styles. Also versatile in moving up tests and quizzes in cases of conflict. In addition, very easy to talk to.
I am not good at math, nor did I come into this class wanting to take it. I chose peters initially because of the reviews on here. She was AMAZING, shes all about helping you understand whats going on, and helps you on quizzes and tests. She drops your 2 lowest homeworks and one test grade. Go to class, and do your homework! It was a breeze
Ive dreaded Stats since high school but Ms Peters teaching style really resonates with me and restored my faith that Im actually capable of exceeding in math!! Shes so kind too. I rarely dread going to her class.
Peters is an amazing professor! If you have the chance to get her definitely do it! She explains everything so well, answers questions very clearly, & she makes it clear what's going to be on quizzes/tests! She even gives out test reviews and tells us what questions to focus on most. Just make sure you go to class for the notes! They're not online!
She is a good teacher and is ready to help students if needed. She can drone on and it is hard to pay attention after a while. There is homework every week and it is very helpful to do it ahead of time. I would recommend her class but if you tend to be a procrastinator you will struggle.
I have never been great at math, however professor Peters is amazing. Everything made complete sense to me and her assignments are easy. She tells her students exactly what to expect on the test. She is by far the best professor I have ever had. HIGHLY recommend Peters!
There are 4 test throughout the semester, and you can't use any notes. All quizzes are done alone in class. The amount of homework in Aleks to make a 100 on the module is obsessive. If you can memorize math equations and produce them on a test this is the class for you. There are only 6-8 questions per test, but they're worth 12-16 points a piece.
Peters was a great professor, she helped me out a lot in math and going to office hours was a big help, she is open to answer any questions during class. She has all of her notes online to print out and makes the class easier by doing lots of practice problems that can apply to any situation.
Miss. Peters is a great teacher. She knows that we are all busy with other classes and tries her best to help her students. There is a lot of homework but it is worth doing because it helps you do well on tests. She is also very good about giving partial credit on tests and quizzes.
she is a great professor and the tests/quizzes are similar to your notes/ study guides. Sometimes, she would throw in vocabulary like "what is the definition of slope" ( rate of change ). There is a lot of homework on ALEKS and it can be time consuming but overall if you study and do the hw, it is an A
Really nice and made everything make sense. I would definitely take her again.
Going to class helped during difficult homework. I'm not great at math so I still struggled but she was super helpful. The notes were easy to understand but if I struggled I couldn't go to office hours because of the odd times. I'd take her class again though, especially since she keeps the schedule updated well! Quizzes are group work!
AMAZING teacher. Math is not a subject that comes easy to me whatsoever. Calculus is not a simple subject but she takes the time to thoroughly explain the material. As long as you go to class, you can master the content! Best teacher I have EVER had. If I could take this professor for every math class I would! 10/10 recommend.
I'm not sure what all the hype is all about for Ms. Peters. She does not describe things well at all and if you miss any class then you're better off not showing up the rest of the semester. Her tests are not like her study guides either and she treats her students as if they are incompetent. Did not enjoy this professor.
I had to miss a few classes due to a family situation and Ms. Peters went above and beyond to help me learn the material and get caught up. She wants her students to succeed and if you put in the work, you will. Her guided notes are so helpful and she is always willing to review anything. Very patient and helpful. Im excited to have her for Calc.
Peters is an amazing teacher and makes it easy for students to pass. I highly recommend taking her!!!
Miss Peters was a very good professor if you had time to print out 10 pages of notes every class and waste all your printing money. She was also very passive aggressive during class mostly because she just assumes that every college student does not care about our education. She treated us like children.
Shes the nicest teacher youll ever meet and she makes everything super easy to understand. TAKE HER CLASS, i promise you wont regret it
She seemed nice enough but math doesn't come easy for me and I struggled alot. It felt like if you didn't know what to do she was passive aggressive to you. When I went to her office hours for help she sat me down for maybe 6 minutes before another student (who she liked) showed up and she handed me my papers back and said goodbye.
I got a c- in college algebra but currently have a b in ms peters calc class. Of course its gonna be a faster pace in college but she explains as much as she can and will help in her office hours. if you print the notes, (which are very helpful) study and do the practice problems you got nothing to worry about.
Peters was one of the best math professors I've had at UNCW. I have disability through the DRC and she always in checking in on me to see if I'm okay/need help. She does not post notes online, so you need to go to class every day or try not to miss a lot. Calc is a hard and fast class but if you go and pay attention and study hard you'll be fine!!
Peters is the best math teacher on UNCWs campus. She drops the two lowest homework grades (which are easy 100's anyway), the two lowest quiz grades, and replaces your final with your lowest test grade. Makes the class super easy to pass. Along with all this her lectures are great and she really cares about her students understanding the material.
Professor Peters is a phenomenal mathematics professor. I am by far not a math person and was not looking forward to taking calculus. I ended up doing much better in the class than I expected, and I give all credit to Professor Peters. She truly cares about the success of her students! I highly recommend her!
I took her for 111 and 151. I love her. You have to put in time and effort but she is beyond willing to help you out. If you cannot make office hours, she will personalize a time for you. She gives a lot of opportunities to do well in the class. Drops lowest 2 hws, and lowest quiz, and replaces a bad exam grade w the final if you did better on that
Miss Peters was a wonderful professor! She helped me truly enjoy Math for the first time. She does care about her students learning the material. If you have the chance to take her for any math class, I would take her. Drops the lowest 2 quizzes and 2 lowest HW grades. Also replaces lowest test with final exam (if higher than the test score).
I took her math 111 class as a freshman and she's a wonderful professor. She takes the time to explain concepts and sets up weekly office hours so you can work one-on-one with her if you need help with something. She cares for her students and always tries to make us laugh when class gets boring-- she's literally my favorite professor.
Professor Peters is a nice and caring professor. That being said, her class is very hard and fast-paced. It requires a lot of outside work and studying.
Great professor and you could tell she really cared about her students. As a student that has never taken a calc class before hers, she did a great job at explaining the material, and I learned a lot from her. I will say that I found that the quizzes throughout the year were much harder than anything we did in our homework or notes though.
Prof. Peters made this class so easy and fun! She helped me really understand math for the first time in a long time. She really cares about her students and how they are doing. She truly wants us to pass and she does everything in her power to help us pass.
She was super sweet and always made sure we were up to speed. She gives a lot of hands on activities to help and is always open to questions. She is easy to reach outside of class and responds to emails quickly as well. Would def take her again!
Ms. Peters is a very sweet and caring lady. Since I have her for education math, she brings out tools that I used in elementary school to help us know how to teach someone. She is a tough grader and her graded assignments are difficult at times. She also does require you to print out the worksheets that you'll be using in class.
I'm really good at math and had already gone over a lot of the topics in this class in highschool and she made it 100 times more confusing. She doesn't ever directly answer your question and explains things in a more complicated way.
Mrs. Peters is a truly kind lady and I always looked forward to her class even though I'm not the biggest math person. She explains things clearly and is very helpful with any questions. Everything is also well organized and she drops your two lowest test and homework grades. I would definitely take her again!
Professor Peters is a great teacher. She clearly goes over all the details and does not make you feel stupid for asking questions. Her office hours are super helpful if you need extra help. She is a tough grader on homework assignments and exams, but she helps a lot when you have questions about any math topic.
This class consisted of jam packed lessons, quizzes, tests, and tons of homework all on ALEKS. The ALEKS would usually be tricky at least on some parts and Peters was definitely not the kindest grader. She gives partial credit but will take off for even the tiniest things you might forget like if you put the answer as 12 instead of 12 dogs, -5 pts.
Ms. Peters is an extremely nice lady who really cares for her students. She is extremely organized and throughly goes over each module (unit). I would recommend not skipping class and make sure you complete all ALEKS homework assignments as they will help you on the exams. At the end of the semester, she drops your lowest 2 quiz & homework grades!
Super fast paced. Nice lady but do not recommend if you are not good at math.
Amazing professor! Really good at explaining material. Uses guided notes to lecture material. She is super organized and knows what she is talking about. Would highly recommend her classes.
i say the class is mandatory but only because it is best to go. she is absolutely amazing and i actually enjoyed math for the first time in my life. although it felt like a highschool class, i really enjoyed it. i wouldnt recommend this class if you arent willing to put in the effort, but if you are it will be a breeze
Peters is understanding & takes the time to answer any questions if confused. Class consists of weekly quizzes and HW. HW is on ALEKS which can be challenging but easy A if you just do it. Quizzes on the other hand are far challenging but as long as you show ALL of your work you can earn partial points. Drops 2 lowest quiz/hw & replaces test grade.
Taking math with Ms. Peters was the best decision. She is a clear lecturerer and is clear about what she expects. I feel like I have a solid calc understanding to carry on to further math classes. Not too much homework and the tests aren't that hard if you pay attention and study. She also gets to know students on a personal level.
Cannot say enough good things about Mrs. Peters. Understands that most people taking 111 are doing it as a requirement and not a passion. Will answer any question you have and will help you however you need all you have to do is ask. Everything was structured perfectly. I just had to show up and practice and Mrs. Peters took care of the rest.
Ms. Peters is a nice lady. However, this class was ridiculously difficult for no reason. She does not teach, and if you have questions she will talk in circles rather than answering them. She grades really tough, and she does not allow makeups, even with a valid medical exemption or note from a doctor. DO NOT TAKE if you are bad at math.
Absolute best professor I've had here. Would stay after class and make sure I could understand the material and super nice as well! Overall, a great class and she cares about you as a person too. She makes math super easy for people that don't understand it.
Math is a hard thing to make interesting, but Ms. Peters does it. She is so energetic even at 8 AM and is goofy. She is so kind whenever people have questions, so dont be afraid to ask! All assessments have been fair, although certain things she can be a bit picky about. Overall a good teacher.
She really cares about making everyone understand and her lectures have easy guided notes so you can go home and teach yourself. Attendance is necessary!! She gives hints on quizzes and test in them so pls go to class. If you wanna ace all the tests/quizzes just rework through all the guided notes most questions are straight from there :)
Professor Peters was one of the worst math teachers I've had in my academic career and my first B in math. She often only had one way of explaining the content and became passive-aggressive if you didn't understand. Expectations for showing work on exams were not clear causing large points to be marked off even if the final answer was correct.
She would teach things that were different from the methods from ALEKS which would throw me off. If it wasn't her way then it was wrong. I did not like how she didn't show you where you went wrong and teach you why these answers are right or wrong. She tried to be relatable but her class was dreadful, it was so tiring and not worth it.
Ms. Peters is an amazing professor! One of the best professors I've had and math teachers I'd had! She explains everything really well but there is a lot of homework tbh so be prepared for that. She drops your two lowest quiz grades and homework grades and replaces your lowest test grades with your final grade if it's better. Overall a great class!
She was a very hard graders but she was also so willing to help all students and wanted to make sure they all passed. She wanted all students to understand. Sometimes did not give good feedback on some assignments but I always asked and she was willingly to help.
She was really nice, but she didn't explain concepts in as much detail as we needed. Her graded assignments were close to impossible, and she graded really harshly. She drops a couple of grades at the end of the semester, though, so that's nice. She usually gave us a good amount of heads up for assignments
This was my second time taking this class because I failed it the first time. She does a good job explaining everything in a way that is easier to understand because she knows math can be confusing. She is also always available for extra help. It is obvious that she genuinely cares about her students success
Ms. Peters is the best math professor/ teacher I have ever had. She explains concepts in a way that is simple to understand, even if you may have struggled with math before. She can be a bit harsh when grading tests. However, if you use her guided notes, do the homework, and do the practice problems she posts on canvas, you'll be fine.
Elisabeth Peters has good intentions. I took MAT 160 with her but it was not available to select. She gives you guided notes and going to her office hours helped me a lot! Sometimes she'll zoom through hard topics and take her time on the easy ones, which is frustrating. Overall, I would recommend showing up for lecture! It helps.
Ms. Peters was an amazing professor! Very good at teaching the material and answering questions. You can tell she cares about her students and that you do well in the class. If you do not study it will be hard to do well on the tests but with a good amount of studying the tests were not difficult. I recommend taking her class!
Great person, and makes it easy to learn. As long as you go to class, you will do well. Lots of homework, but manageable.
Ms. Peters does an excellent job of explaining the course material. Our final grade was made up of weekly aleks modules, 5 tests, and a cumulative final. As long as you put in a little effort you'll have no issue succeeding in her class. I took 160 with her this semester and look forward to taking 161 with her in the spring.
Ms. Peters has been the best math teacher I've ever had. During lectures, she breaks down math problems in the simplest terms, complemented by her colorful notation to help you better understand the material. Her tests are straightforward, and she does provide partial credit. Just study and ask questions and you'll do great in her class.
While I did not make the grade I desired, Professor Peters is a good lecturer. Office hours helped me tremendously & without that I would have struggled more. She makes it a point to get to know you even in a large lecture. There are 5 tests and homework twice a week. The final is cumulative. If you study you'll do great & make sure to do the hw!
She is an amazing teacher. I hadn't taken a math class in over 10 years and honestly expected to barely pass going into this. The only reason my grade wasn't higher was because of simple mistakes I made, nothing to do with her. I honestly don't think I would've understood the material as well as I did if it wasn't for her.
BEST MATH TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD If you can take any class with Mrs. Peters, do it. She's incredibly patient and understanding with students and offers lots of help, she is also super personable with students. The worst part is the amount of homework (2 each week that vary in length), but the tests are so much easier.
Her MAT 160 class was good. It has a lot of material in it and there is a lot of homework (2 ALEKS homeworks per week) but she is willing to help you. There are 5 tests in this class, 3 algebra based and 2 trig based tests, plus a cumulative final. She uses guided notes you can print out or write on which are helpful for the tests.
The best math professor. So clear and to the point when explaining problems and topics. Math 160 is a lot, but, she makes it so easy to understand. There are a total of 5 exams, with homework twice a week. Not bad at all. If you need to take Math, specifically 160, Ms. Peter's is the girl. I love her.
THEE worst professor I've had in UNCW. Such a tough grader and just assigns a lot of work, and the reliance on tests is just too much. Tests are "celebrations of knowledge" but she absolutely does NOT conduct them that way.
Ms. Peters is the best professor I've ever had and singlehandedly made me enjoy math again. If I could take her for 162 I would. If you pay attention in class and do the work it shouldn't be a problem. 10/10 recommend.
Professor Peters is a true educator with a desire to see her students learn the material. She goes out of her way to ensure the math is understood and that students leave her class with a sense of accomplishment. Testing is frequent and Prof. Peters doesn't put up with nonsense, but if you're taking the class to learn you will do fine.
I love ms. peters so much. This was definitely my favorite math class I have taken. She thoroughly explains everything and is so helpful if you ever need extra help.
Never in my 14 years of going through the K-12 system and now 2+ years into college, have i ever had a class like this. She makes the class unnecessarily hard, Lots of homework, Tough grader for no reason...and its true when they say if you miss one class, you might as well not show up the rest of the year, she refuses to cover old material in 1on1
Coming back here a year after taking her class just to say how great she is. Switched my whole career path because of her class. If you have the opportunity to take her, do it!!
Ms. Peters is a great professor who is great at teaching. Obviously math is a hard subject but she does a great job in making it understandable. There is a lot of homework but it is a huge grade booster. 5 units with 1 test and quiz each. Super lenient with grades as 4 HW grades and 2 quizzes get dropped. Just try your best to not miss class.
She is a great teacher! She starts from the absolute basics because she doesn't know what everyone knows, so it is a refresher. She wants her students to succeed and gives lots of resources if you don't understand something. Drops two lowest Quiz and HW Grades. There is a fair amount of HW but it isn't bad. I recommend this class for MAT-150!
She literally zooms past everything. I had never been bad at math and somehow, I was so lost when I was in her class. I would go to her after hours, and it didn't help. She doesn't like repeating past material which makes no sense, and expects you to understand everything off one class and the ALEK.
Honestly an amazing math professor. She teaches things at a base level first, which is very helpful to remember content that I had already learned in high school but mostly forgot about. She's also very lenient with grading; lots of HW and quiz grades are dropped, and partial credit is available for incorrect questions.
I really enjoyed her lectures, but classes were too short, and I was always falling behind even with my disability accommodations and testing. She is really funny and engaging as a professor, but the tests are difficult and the feedback is difficult to understand even after going to office hours. ALEKS is frustrating if you are not good at math...
I am terrible at math and precalc was pretty tough for me but having prof Peters was a saving grace. She is incredibly encouraging and supportive. She makes herself as available as humanly possible to help outside of class for office hours and drops the lowest test grade. The class is going to be hard no matter who you take but she's a great prof
Ms. Peters is a great professor. She makes zero assumptions about the class's prior math knowledge and starts from the ground up. She is also a very lenient grader and gives partial credit for every question. There are 2 homework assignments on ALEKS due per week, and if you are willing to practice, the class is not difficult. Highly recommend.
Probably one of the best math teachers I've had. She takes her time to break down every topic in a comprehensible way. Although I wish there were more than just 3 tests (major assignments)
She was nice but it was a lot of homework, and A LOT OF QUIZZES AND TEST. I feel she needed to break down the information better and she taught fast. If you want to do good in the class you have to study and learn a lot out of class.
Great Teacher honestly.
She was great. I wish I could have her for 161! You have to put in the work to get a good grade but if you pay attention she explains everything very clearly.
Great Professor, starts from the basics and works her way through all the modules building through each one. You get what you put in on the tests, her reviews are also very helpful, she made this class super enjoyable and easy to get through.
Amazing professor. She gives you plenty of time to ask questions about the topics, and she is very knowledgeable on what she talks about. The topics can be hard but if you ask questions and pay attention, you will understand it. Homework can be hit or miss, but generally takes about an hour or two to complete.
Now I have no problem with her as a person, she seems nice and engaging…but I will say when it comes to her teaching style, if you are not already good at math it will not work for you everything is just extremely fast paced and rushed in my opinion. She offers help outside of class but for me it just did not help. Overall, beware if you struggle.
Best math teacher I have ever had definitely recommend
Great at explaining, not too slow or too fast, and answers all questions. Homework and quiz-heavy, but the quizzes are sometimes in groups. The professor is very sweet, just don't be disruptive. After dropping the lowest quiz grades and homework grades, final grade was at 100.4%
