Awesome teacher for Statistics...extremely clear and takes the students though the steps slowly enough for us Non-Math people.

Very knowledgeable and helpful. She kinda has a holier than though attitude but her classes were very interesting.
she is very nice, but goes fast with each topic. she teaches very clearly, but she loses alot of students as the class goes on. the overall subject is hard, only if you do not keep up with the work.
she was very kind and flexible, but at the same time not unwilling to cut you down if you were out of line. all around an awesome prof.
She was a good professor. The material just sucked. Make sure you know what you're doing in each class and if you miss a class it's kind of hard to follow the rest of the classes...believe me.
She likes to talk down to students and is sometimes disrespectful. She also doesn't always pace material well. Being in this class was painful.
Worst professor! If you need help she depends on the TA's. She wont respond E-mails if you ask her questions. Shes mean and talks down to you when you ask a question. Basically treats you like a kid. If you ask her to repeat something or go over something again she does it in a pissy attitude. Only thing good was her extra credit opportunities. SUC
This woman is a real witch and a horrible teacher. She is condescending, uptight and clearly does not like students. She managed to make interesting material much more difficult than it needs to be. I would not recommend her at all!
Her class is really fast paced and hard to keep up with, and the grade depends almost entirely on homework. The quizes aren't very hard, but the homework is so tedious.
she's simply the best most knowledgable prof i've encountered
I enjoyed this class so much. She chose interesting topics for class discussions and was always available for extra help. As for what everyone is saying about her being a hard teacher, if you do the work, you will get the grade you deserve. She is a fair teacher and for the people who dont care to try, they wont like her classes.
Great professor. Speaks really well..dont know why other people say she sucks, probably just because their dumb and dont attend class because its mommy and daddys money anyway. Take this class even if you dont like math because a 10 year old could figure these formulas out. If you do all of your homework and extra credit you will get an A or B for
This class would have been so much harder without Professor Sandberg. I recommend taking this class with her. She explains everything pretty clearly and willing to go over things you don't understand. As long as you do the homeworks and are top of your work you'll get an A.
I found Dr.Sandberg to be not only a great professor but also a great advisor. She is always on top of things, very clear, and really enjoys her career choice. She rarely misses class. Although there is always homework, its really easy to do. For someone who has always had a hard time in math like myself, I found statistics to really make sense wit
Professor Sandberg is awesome! She really knows what she is talking about and is all about helping her students out. She is a very fair grader and if you put in the effort she will reward you with a fair grade! I would highly recommend her if you get the chance to take a class with her
I'm taking my freshman seminar with her and I think she's an excellent teacher! She definitely knows what she's talking about, she's very entertaining in class and very nice. She gives extensions on papers if you ask her ahead of time, and is very understanding. I would take another class with her if I had the chance!!
Taking Professor Sandberg class was very much worth my time. If you do all your work and she sees that you are making an effort you will get a good grade. In this class i didn't learn that much but I came out with a really good grade! I highly recommend her and wish I was able to take her class again! TAKE HER CLASS! SHE IS SO NICE & HELPFUL!
She is a great teacher. You will learn a lot. She gives useful assignments and everything about her assignments are clear. She uses black board so you know how your doing the whole semester which is really useful. Overall fair teacher, go to class and do the work and you will learn a lot
Class is beyond boring and lecture is pointless because slides are posted and it just reiterates the text but will give extra credit for attendance. A fair amount of homework but it's all busy work. Tests are all multiple choice and can be confusing. An average class, but not a bad choice to fulfill AXLE.
Class is simply her going over slides, but fortunately she posts them online. There's homework every class period, which is normally reading 20 pages and doing a few online assignments on it. Almost everything in the class is online, but the website is very glitchy this semester. Tests are MC only, and they tend to be worded annoyingly.
Horrible class. I learned nothing over the entire semester. Sandberg is one of those professors who think's they are NEVER wrong. Very obnoxious and annoying. Does not hand back tests and then post grades incorrectly so you never really know what your grade is.
I really liked Dr. Sandberg. Her lectures, while mostly material from the book, are helpful for digesting information, and she's a really funny, casual, conversational lecturer. Never had a problem staying awake, even at 9am. Homework was busy work, and the tests weren't too bad. Class is what it should be: a good intro to the field.
Dr. Sandberg was great. Her lectures are mostly material from the book, but they're helpful to digest the info. She's really funny, and her lectures are very conversational, which helps keep you awake at 9am. The homework was all online and super easy, and the tests weren't too bad either. She's interesting to talk to outside of class.
Even though her lectures mostly review information from the book, her conversational style keeps them interesting. Her tests incorporate specific material from the book and her lectures, so keep up with both. The tests aren't bad, but even then your grade is padded with homework and other assignments. Good class.
Very entertaining and quirky lecturer, and she often supplements the reading with interesting information which is on the test, but reading the book is the most important part of the class. Tests aren't bad, and the overall grade is padded with fairly easy outside assignments and homework. If you put in the work, an A shouldn't be out of reach.
Decent teacher. Clear lectures. Tests much harder than the class itself due to very vague/badly worded questions. Many other opportunities to boost grade though. Homework due every class, its a big part of your grade so do it.
she was a great lecturer and the material was interesting. tests were all multiple choice questions and were difficult, but the portfolio project (30% of your grade) and the research participation (10%) and homework (10%) made it possible to have bad grades on the midterms but still to have an overall good grade in the class
She did not give clear indication that the tests would be difficult with the type of homework she assigned. The class is overall pretty easy, because most of the points you can earn come from things you get to spend a lot of time on. I personally disliked the class because she didn't make it worthwhile to come to class.
Great teaching style. Very clear and interesting in class, but the tests can catch you off guard the first time or two. Do not need help outside of class and ask her anything though. She has T.A.s for you to associate with not really so much her. The final project is great, however, it provides a lot of cushion for your grade.
Course is a great survey of psychology. Her lectures are clear and interesting. There's online hw before every class, which could add up. The tests are manageable if you put the effort into studying. This class prompted me to pursue psych as a major and take another class with her the semester after. I 100% recommend it!
Extremely easy. Learned a decent amount but she went off on tangents all the time. Very funny professor and understanding. I would recommend it if you want an easy A
Lectures are useless, and consist of her making bad jokes and showing videos. Fine to skip often. Material comes entirely from textbook/online homework, and is pretty simple, but tests are hard. Expect grade to be a full letter grade higher than test average because of grade booster assignments. Definitely can get an A, but have to put in some work
Easy to do well if you actively do the homework. Lectures aren't mandatory but sometimes extra credit is offered. Also, there are questions on tests about in-class activities.
I love her during her lectures because she is funny and kept us interested in the topics. But the exams are haaaaaaaard.
Sandberg is an interesting woman...she is whiny and somewhat harsh and unapproachable. Despite this, the lectures are interesting (lots of graphics and cool videos) and she keeps it light and funny for the most part. The homework is pretty mandatory, and is kind of busy work. Tests are WAY harder than the class itself, beware! Keep up w/ reading.
Dr. Sandberg is witty and articulate. Class is not mandatory, but you should go because the lectures include material that will be on the tests, and she shows clips of videos that are quite interesting. To prepare for the tests, practice the Learning Curve tests that are online-- they are key to getting an A.
Test questions are really vague but she provides a lot of grade cushioning. Study the lecture slides she posts online
Dr. Sandberg kept the class interesting. Often times we would watch movies and videos in class. Sometimes I felt as if the class period was pointless though because the tests were textbook based. There is a good bit of work on psych portal every night. Also, the tests cover A LOT of information, so start studying like a week in advance.
Dr. Sandberg, in a sense, ruined my interest in psychology. A seemingly easy course of study (intro psych) was made difficult by her impossibly worded test questions (each multiple choice with 5 options). I recommend studying from the text/website because her class lectures are painful and she always fails to properly operate the projector.
Dr. Sandberg is very witty and easy going. Liked listening to her lectures, although she often goes on rants or tangents that are interesting, but not relevant. Tests are very difficult, so just skim the textbook every night with online homework and you'll be fine. More work than anticipated, but enjoyable class. Made me wanna major in Psych
This class on autism was very interesting for someone who knew nothing about ASD. That said, Sandberg knows her stuff yet the class is more of a survey than real nitty-gritty material. It's a pretty easy A, and the work load is some of my lowest at Vandy. I wish Sandberg had lectured more but instead there is a lot of fruitless group discussion.
This is a great class. Her expectations are very clear, and as long as you do the readings, the homework and quizzes are easy.
She inspired me to study psychology and pursue it at the graduate level. With her, you will move mountains (with your brain!).
Lectures are useless, she posts slides online. Reading the textbook is a must and a decent amount of time will be spent on homework. She does offer some extra credit and a project to balance out your grade, but tests are EXTREMELY difficult and unnecessarily so. They cover a lot of material and have vague questions with no clear cut "right" answer.
Good lecturer. The class is huge, but Sandberg makes a point to spur class participation with handouts and clicker questionssurveys. Tests are MC and pretty hard, but she lets you buffer your grade with a lot of easy homework assignments and research credits. You don't have to go to class, but she does a lot of extra credit.
Attendance is not taken so you don't need to go to lecture as long as you keep up with reading. Some class material will be on tests, but she posts the in class slides. She spends half the time fighting with the microphone or having the class watch videos during lecture. Also, tests are tricky but she provides plenty of padding for your grade.
Tests are kind of hard, but take good notes, highlight key things in the book, and review lecture slides, and you should do pretty well. Sandberg's lectures are pretty interesting, even if a significant amount of time is spent fighting with the microphone or watching videos. A great introduction to psych and would def take again.
Class is pretty clear-cut. HW is a huge part of the grade, so make sure to complete it because it was a grade-saver. Interesting class. Tests are very difficult though- many questions are badly worded and have several possible answers. If you do well on the HW and portfolio, and complete the extra credit- you can get a good grade.
I thought this class would be a kinda easy A if you just read the textbook and studied for tests, but her tests were next to impossible. I studied so hard and felt like I really understood the material, but never did too well on tests. Luckily, homework is worth 25% of your grade and an easy portfolio project is worth a lot too. Entertaining class.
Sandberg has been my favorite professor so far. She's very clear about what she wants from you and her lectures are usually funny and interesting. Her sarcasm is awesome. You must read to do well and the tests are tough, but definitely worth taking general psych with her.
Experimental Design is a drag, but if you have to take it, be sure to take it with Sandberg. She's really engaging and funny.
Experimental Design is a waste of a class, but if you're taking it, you probably have to anyway. Sandberg is competent, but this class is basically just applying common sense and learning excessively specific vocabulary. The class moves really slowly, especially since most classes consist of just answering questions about studies, but she's fine.
Professor Sandberg is very nice! Pretty funny a lot of times, too. You need to read the textbook, and attendance isn't mandatory but you should definitely show up to class since clicker questions are sometimes used for bonus points/grades and the activities done in class sometimes show up on tests.
Attendance wasn't mandatory, and tests are more based on textbook readings, but there are some test questions based on lectures. Expect daily readings (short, but also assigned with short online assignments), and a few other assignments. However, if you do the work, it's definitely easy to get a good grade.
Dr. Sandberg is a really nice lady and she's a very funny and enthusiastic lecturer. Tests are all multiple choice and unnecessarily tricky. They're out of 50-60 points so it's hard to get an A. Definitely need to go to class because she takes some info from class for the tests. I hate psych, and this class didn't change that.
Dr. Sandberg is a great professor. She is fun and very knowledgeable about autism. This class is definitely worth taking.
Sandberg rocks. Go to her lectures - not just because you'll be tested on them, but because she's funny and helpful and absolutely worth it.
Sandberg's class is great because her expectations are always very clear and fair. Her lectures are interesting, and she can be pretty funny at times too - plus the material can be very fascinating. That being said, her tests are very difficult and the class overall is very difficult to get an A in. If you're looking for an easy A, don't take
Sandberg is great. Homework is easy, just keep up with the readings and you'll be fine. Tests have a few tricky questions, but not awful by any means. Her lectures are funny and connect interesting stories and things to topics covered by the book. Go to class! She does clicker questions for attendance points occasionally.
Sandberg is a pretty solid professor with fairly interesting lectures. However, the portfolio assignment is graded harshly with basically no explanation for what they're looking for, and the tests are hard. I somehow pulled out an A-, but I had to work myself to death during finals week to bring myself up. Not a bad class but by no means an easy A
General psychology isn't impossible by most measures, but the class is tougher than most people expect. It's important that you get as many points on non-test assignments as possible because there aren't many tests and they are fairly challenging. The class material is based mostly on textbook chapters but some lecture content is tested.
First year writing seminar is good. She could be more open to new ideas, but overall a good professor.
worst class i have ever taken at vanderbilt and the worst grade i've gotten. it was so miserable. the most frustrating experience of my time at vanderbilt. granted, i did get a B+, but I tried so hard. just horrible. DO NOT TAKE SANDBERG. so unhelpful, tests were unnecessarily tricky, and she was unhelpful. no way to do well in this class
Sandberg is really funny and has great lectures. Her exams are not easy- the average grades for the class were usually around high 70s/low 80s. That being said, she gives plenty of grade boosters and I was able to get a decent grade. Her class is not easy but it's manageable if you work hard.
There was online homework due before every class, but it did help me stay on top of the reading, which helped when studying for the exams. The exams were reasonable, multiple choice. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but she'd include stuff from class on the tests and do demonstrations and activities. I appreciated her sarcastic humor.
Grades incredibly hard, inane projects, you essentially have to read her mind because she won't give you any type of rubric for projects, or indicate what she wants on her midterm/final. If this is a required class for your major, good luck. If it's not required, spare yourself a lot of frustration and take something else.
If you're taking Exp. Design, be a psych major. Otherwise, probably don't take this. I think Sandberg does a good job of expanding upon concepts if you've read the material before we reach it in class, but if not, it's kind of confusing. Attendance taken on clickers. Randomly put in groups for projects, these are graded HARSHLY. Quizzes are easy.
My favorite lectures were "Don't Do Meth" and "How To Not Get Pregnant". She's a pretty cool professor and she doesn't just repeat what's in the book, so doing the reading is a must and homework is not optional. If you put the time and effort into this class, you're guaranteed a good grade.
This class follows a strange pass/fail checklist system of grading that makes getting an A really easy. This class is very engaging. Class attendance can be used to request re-grades. Lectures are funny and enforce reading. Midterms contain tricky questions, but only 80% is needed. Final is super easy w/ essay topics given before.
Requires reading but not hard honestly. If you are interested in psychology definitely go take it.
Dr. Sandberg is an amazing teacher. She knows her material extremely well and her lectures are very interesting because she uses funny videos and games. Her tests are hard because there is a lot of material but they are very fair and you don't have to guess about what she is testing you on. She is very clear in all her grading criteria.
While the many criteria for an A might scare some, her class is actually manageable. Be on top of the reading, do the homework and take notes (exams do include material that's only covered in lectures!) and you will be fine. Analyses of news articles are required for grades higher than B and they are graded strictly, so keep an eye out for that.
There are only three total exams and five analyses that you are graded on, so it is important to do well on those. You can retake the exams which is helpful for boosting your grade, but they cover a lot of material. Overall, just read the textbook and take notes during lectures, and you should be fine.
really interesting lectures, clear lecturer, pretty easy class overall. She tells you exactly what you need to do to get a certain grade in the class. Attendance is not mandatory, but you get tokens for perfect attendance that you can exchange for extensions, research hours, test retakes, etc.
Dr. Sandberg is a funny teacher who makes psychology very interesting. The class itself isn't too hard, but the tests (3 multiple choice tests) are much harder than you'd expect. If you study fairly hard and actually focus on the online homework rather than flying through it you should be fine. She is funny and will send out snarky emails too.
Pretty easy A and she's pretty engaging for such a large lecture. You'll probably be bored if you take it as a junior or senior though
It's easy to get behind on reading, so don't. If you stay on top of your reading and the Launchpad homework as well as your news analyses, you should get an A. She let us take a 3x5 notecard of notes with us for our essay final, if that gives you an indication of this class. The lectures are fairly interesting, with lots of videos included.
Took her class on autism and she has absolutely no idea what she's talking about. Makes wildly incorrect claims with zero evidence to back them up. Anybody looking for any actual correct information, seek it elsewhere. She teaches only her views without supporting them and does not encourage any critical thought.
Wish she actually covered stuff we need to learn instead of wasting time just talking abut irrelevant life stuff and the TopHat and online system they use is RIDICULOUS
Terrible professor. Spends class time going over the stupidest irrelevant stuff like being anal about how TopHat works. Grading criteria and test retakes makes it not too hard to get A, but classes are the most excruciating things ever. Unbelievably bad teacher because she doesn't teach and goes on useless boring tangents the whole lecture.
She doesn't actually teach and spends 75% of each class just ranting about TopHat Her lessons seem inaccurate, outlandish, and she makes insane claims without any evidence. However, her system for grades does make it slightly easier to get a good grade in the class. Only 80% on her exams are needed for an A and retakes are available with attendance
The grading system is a little bit weird, but very clear. Its easy to achieve an A, especially if you go to class. Its doable if you dont; my attendance rate was 58%. Hardest part of the A is a 80% on exams, which you can retake. Many kids were frustrated with the professor, but Im not sure professor quality is all that important for psy 1200.
Easy class, attendance not required, basic material, but be careful on the final essays. Specific criteria/expectations are not given ahead of time, so slipping up slightly on one of them can lower your course grade.
Had an A in the class till the final exam (also got an A on the multiple choice) but one little 300 word essay brought my grade all the way down to a B. This professor needs to be clearer on what she expects. Very disappointed and regret taking this class with her.
Dr. Sandberg's class isn't bad if you follow everything she has to say. Attending class makes the tests very manageable, but majority of students end up trailing off after the first few weeks. Her grading system is very unique, which means you have to stay on top of all the assignments she gives out. You definitely get the grade you deserve.
Prof. Sandberg was decent. She was helpful and willing to meet outside of class if needed. Her lectures usually strayed from the material, but they are covered on the tests. Getting an A isn't terribly hard, but the final essays bring some people down. She gives tokens for attendance that can be used for test retakes which is very helpful.
Professor Sandberg is engaging but spends the entirety of her lecture trying to figure out Top Hat and having technology problems. She also spends a lot of time in class going over the reading, so aside from her perks of attendance, class time is useless. Read her slides on Top Hat and the textbook, follow her grading rubric, and get an easy A.
Dr. Sandberg seemed bored teaching General Psychology. I enjoyed lectures as they were about interesting material not covered in the textbook. However, that being said, difficult textbook material wasn't covered in class so you had to grasp on your own. She gets very frustrated with technology which eats away from class time. Very clear grading.
Sandberg was an average professor, kind of spunky. The only thing that bothered me is that she spent an unnecessary amount of time worrying about small/useless things--essentially wasting my time in lecture. But, show up anyway and you get "tokens" to literally retake the tests (and you only need an 80). Keep up with readings and its an easy A.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Sandberg's lectures. The class was interesting and relatively easy. Homework and reading were assigned for every lecture, but they were far from difficult. Exams were not especially difficult; the material was based off both the book and lectures.
Wastes class time, yet makes attendance mandatory. Assigns meaningless assignments that take hours to complete that will never be touched on again. The strangest and worst grading scale, requiring you to get 90% on every single assignment in order to get an A, and doesn't understand that's not how other classes do it. Do NOT take this class
Class attendance is mandatory but it's a waste of time. The grading scale is ridiculous, requiring you to get 90% on every single assignment in order to get an A.
Took her for FYWS (Language Parade). Quickly became my favorite professor--class was casual, fun, and covered what the students were interested in. Very light workload. Grades about participation, small group project, short writings, and essays. Vague criteria for essays. A fun class that will make you appreciate linguistics (or just love it more)
(Aut in Cntxt) Fun class that teaches both what is the scientifically-supported argument and reasons people believe debunked arguments. Covers a lot of topics at a more shallow level, non-text books. Grade depends on midterm and final papers (but we had an easy alt final) and the group project (random groups and topics, varying presentation dates)
Dr. Sandberg is a great professor! She's knowledgable and a very easy grader. I would recommend this class if you want an easy A.
Dr. Sandberg isn't as bad as she seems at first. She can come off very abrupt, aggressive or even disrespectful to students, but she does actually care about students. if you go to her office hours, she's a lot more approachable and nice. Her grading system is ridiculous. It's hard to get an A, but it's also hard to get lower than a B+
Professor Sandberg is a opinionated professor, and this can put people off. Nonetheless her tests, sans the final, can be retaken to bring your grade up, and 50% of the class is participation. She isn't a good lecturer, but my opinion could be tarnished by my 9a. There are some questions on tests from lectures, and TopHat attendance is taken.
Prof. Sandberg is extremely organized and very specific in her lectures. She has been giving this class for years now and tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams. Retakes are encouraged and worth an enormous part of your grade. She will work around your schedule for exam retakes. She wastes some lectures with pointless videos though.
Sandberg is very sassy and opinionated and her attitude ruins many mornings for me. Half the grade is completion and there are retakes to boost your grade, but her teaching style and being in her class makes me not want to take another psych class. She is the only gen pysch professor, so you're stuck with her if you need to take the class.
Sandberg lets you retake every test with your retake weighted as much as your attendance. An easy A if you put in the work.
She is really "flexible" about the grading. In the previous years, only 80 in the exams guaranteed an A; but now 93.5 does not make sure an A. Do not take her class unless you think you can do 100 on every test.
She seems not motivated to teach- she will just pull up videos for us to watch. The lecture does not cover the actual book content (relevant content) at all- therefore no one goes to class. However, she throws in questions in the exam about nothing psych related just to knock the people that didn't go to class by asking "What did I say in class?"
Grading scale changes every year and is deceiving as stated in the syllabus. Still not especially hard to get an A, but would have been much easier if we knew how we were going to be graded from the start. Attendance for test retakes was taken away halfway through the semester.
Sandberg is annoying!! There is just no other way to put it. The actual class and content aren't hard but her tests are ridiculous. She will ask questions like "what happened in that one 3min video we watched in class that one day?"If you don't take notes on literally everything that comes out of her mouth, the class will be hard.
Not an amazing teacher, especially towards the end of the semester we spent most of our time in class watching videos that loosely related to the content. Exams are tricky but there are retakes and enough gimme assignments to pad your grade. You'll be learning most of the material on your own, but the material isn't that bad.
The class is fast-pace and goes through a lot of material. The wording of exams are tricky but the retakes make it manageable. Some questions on the exam come specifically from lecture. The final essay was toughly and weirdly graded. It is still possible to do well in the class.
Sandberg is sassy, mean, and arrogant. Her tests have many tricky questions and it seems like she's taking away retakes, which will make it harder for future classes. The grading system is not like how it seems on the syllabus. Hard to get an A, but an A-/B+ is possible if you do all the work. Avoid her if you can.
Prof Sandberg is so condescending and full of herself and has no care for any of her students. She tells irrelevant stories about herself and her political opinion that are just annoying and waste time. Get prepared to take every exam on the computer and be berated when you ask for a physical copy. The exams are so unnecessarily difficult.
Despite getting a 5 on AP Psych, reading the textbook twice, never missing a class, and doing all the homework, Sandberg still makes it a struggle to pull a B- on exams. Her exams don't reflect the material important to psychology and are full of riddles and incredibly vague phrasing. She's the reason I dropped a psych major. DO NOT take her class
I took this class as an elective bcs I was always interested in psychology. While the textbook content is engaging and interesting, Sandberg is extremely condescending in lecture and one-on-one. Class time consists of pointless videos, meaningless numbering handouts, and mindless stories and political opinions. Hard exams too w/ no retakes!
My psych major had more plot twists this semester than an M. Night Shyamalan movie. Despite my heavy interest in the subject, the course is so poorly taught that it almost ruined psych for me. Lectures are incredibly off topic, filled with youtube videos, and molded to her own political views. The tests are difficult and so ridiculously specific.
This is the worst and hardest class I have ever taken at Vandy. I'm a consistent A student and I struggled to get flat Bs on her tests even with 15 hours or more of studying for each. The tests are crazy specific, asking about things like one sentence she said in class, or what a random line in the textbook says. Avoid if you can.
Sandberg is out to get you. This class used to be easy when she allowed retakes, but I think she realized that and didn't want her class to be a joke. The tests are extremely difficult, and ask about irrelevant information from a single line in the textbook or one sentence she said in lecture. You don't learn anything! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Sandberg is a very challenging and stubborn professor. Lecture consists of irrelevant stories, videos, and political opinions. The material itself is a lot of information to cover, but you will find the tests made of trick questions and one-liners from lecture. Find another psychology course; I would avoid her at all costs.
Lectures were terrible and attendance was mandatory until halfway through the semester. Exams were difficult but retakes really helped your grade. News analysis assignments were basically impossible to tie back to the unit. Homework was incredibly easy, mainly watching videos and interactive assignments.
The single worst professor Ive ever had. Condescending, self-righteous, and just downright mean to students. Constantly wastes lecture time with political rants, YouTube videos, etc. Randomly changed the grading scale mid-semester, making what was a sure A into a B+ and refused to answer student questions about it. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
This class is ridiculous. None of it is particularly hard but instead designed to trip you up. Lectures are mandatory and missing just one can impact your grade a lot. But the lectures are pretty much useless. As is the nightly homework. She treats this class like highschool, filling your time with busywork when all you need is to read the text.
For large intro lecture Sandbergs fine, but don't know if I would take her again. Lectures usually interesting but have to read textbook to learn test material. 1-2 chapters homework due everyday. Participation, homework x2, research credits, news analyses, tests x4 and final (10% each). Grade based on letters so you have to do well on the tests
lectures are kind of useless but you have to go in order to get top hat points - the tests (all 50 mc questions) require you to essentially memorize the entire textbook word for word as the questions are stupid specific, an A is possible with the retakes but it takes waaaay more time and effort than it should for gen psych
General Psychology was an enjoyable class. The tests were moderately difficult, but there was a retake option provided after every test. The class covers a lot of material, but Professor Sandberg made it very interesting. My only complaint is how outspoken Professor Sandberg could be at times about her political beliefs.
Took a first-year writing seminar about linguistics with Sandberg. She can be somewhat abrasive, but she's knowledgable about the subject. Assignments were never very difficult, as long as you have decent writing skills you should be fine. Mostly just writing, with a few group assignments here and there.
Prof Sandberg made gen psych much more difficult than it needed to be. the tests were impossible because every sentence of the textbook had to have been memorized in order to pass. Lectures were mainly her showing videos, and expecting us to teach ourselves the content that we were later tested on. Only take w her if you plan on a psych major.
Honestly feel like I learned nothing I didn't already know in this class. Lectures were unrelated to the topic most of the time and ended up just being rambling and feeling like a waste of time. Half your grade comes from a presentation and a paper. She is nice, though.
This course was a little disappointing. Group presentations - groups are selected randomly - are once a week, and during COVID they were the main form of learning. The assigned readings were interesting and I enjoyed them but class time was often not super informative although mandatory. She made us purchase her own book but we barely opened it.
Sandberg provided a good range of activities and supplements to aid in learning the material, given that this was an online course. There are lots of grades that can help carry your average in the case that you may not be the best test taker. Overall, I enjoyed this class and would take Sandberg again.
The lectures are interesting, but her tests and class structure ruin that. She actually tries to trick you on the tests, rather than test you. I have never had a professor that intentionally wants you to perform below your potential until I had her. She is also incredibly uptight and has unreasonable requirements for homework and classwork.
Don't take this class unless you need to. Sandberg is incredibly demanding and condescending. Additionally, she can be very annoyed if you ask her questions about literally anything. The actual content is fine but it's mainly videos and not actually her teaching. I would spend hours and hours studying for insanely specific tests every two weeks.
Despite getting an A, I can confidently say this is the worst professor I have ever had. The most condescending, unwelcoming professor. She asks test questions that are not only irrelevant, but make little sense. I had more work in this class than every class combined. She truly doesn't care about her student's wellbeing or success.
It is inspiring to see such a bad Professor teaching in College. Unless it's absolutely necessary, RUN!
Lecture Heavy... with irrelevant stories, wish I had taken AP Psychology.
Pro Sandberg is so respectful to students, when people argue with her on the answer of the Final, All she respond was Before I go into any depth thinking about this, tell me whether this one point would make a difference in your grade. What I can say is taking this class did make a difference on my choice of major- I dropped psychology as major.
Professor Sandberg's Autism in Context class had lots of reading and movies/TV, but enjoyable content. This semester, class was hybrid, with a project composed of 3 essays (for 2 of them, you got peer reviews on a rough draft), along with completion based prep work. Discussion posts and leading discussions rounded out the grading. Great class!
Worst prof I've had at vandy. Took her when classes were in person and the exams were ridiculous. She asked questions about specific sentences she said in class and was brutal with short answer/essay grading. Super moody too. Find anyone else
Huge disconnect between this class and her psych class. She's a much better professor/not as up tight. She assigns a lot of papers and readings, but will give extensions/clear feedback. The class does get unorganized. She wants you to have your camera on unless you have an excuse why you cannot. Solid class. Not hard to do well. Take it.
The class overall is not too difficult and the concepts are fairly straight forward. However, for a gen ed, this class was way too much work if you read each chapter and took notes. The tests were also unreasonably specific requiring you to memorize single lines from the textbook to know the answers. An easy class but not worth the effort to me.
She was quite condescending this semester to the students online when they asked questions during review sessions and the TA's were not helpful at all. They simply looked up the answers on google and shared their screen.
Never taking another one of her classes again. Had a 50 question multiple choice exam every other week. She was the worst and hardest grader. Her questions are MEANT to confuse you so you get so many questions wrong. She is not helpful outside of class, is actually very rude. Beware, as PSY1200 is a prerequisite, she is NOT GOOD.
I think Professor Sandberg's reputation precedes here. People are too judgemental. I loved her class. She was organized in her lectures, gave you accurate feedback, and she knew her content well. She catered to the COVID 19 crisis by making the class asynchronous, dropping the lowest grades, and using more accessible resources. I think she's great.
She seems to be a decent person, contrary to a lot of these comments. Still, don't take her unless you want a Psych major/minor. When you take her exams, you get the sense she wants you to fail.
What a disaster of a class. We had an insane amount of work with very little direction. If you asked questions, she would say "refer to the textbook". We had to grade eachothers work on a curve so people would give bad grades and everyone would do poorly. Only changed the class once students complained to her superiors.
You learn everything from the textbook. The tests aren't too hard but a lot of them are very specific parts from the textbook, so make sure to read thoroughly. The worst part about this class was having an exam every other week. Made my semester feel like there were no breaks.
I was pretty apprehensive about PSY-1200 after hearing that I'd be better off avoiding it. I had no problems with the course at all and actually appreciated Dr. Sandberg's flexibility and understandings. The guidelines were very clear and Dr. Sandberg adjusted a few deadlines when she noticed we were all stressed. Definitely keep up w readings!
Professor Sandberg is the kind of professor you dread having but can't escape. I am a psychology major and struggled with this course because of the workload and inability to reach her outside of class. The material is tricky. I would not recommend taking Professor Sandberg if possible. There are way better profs out there who care about students.
Her lecturing style is not great so I ended up relying on the textbook. There were homework assignments due almost every week. The news analysis were strange. The tests were always worded strangely but it was a consistent format at least. Overall take another psych class.
Dr. Sandberg gets a horrible reputation, but I really don't think she deserves it. She was so flexible with her teaching that she was willing to reframe the class a bit to accommodate for others' rude comments. I feel like I learned a lot in the class, and I don't think that this class was any harder than STEM classes you could choose to take.
Dr. Sandberg doesn't deserve her reputation, and people are dramatic about the workload. The homework assignments are busy work but the class became so much more manageable after she made the tests open-note and open-book. You can tell she wants her students to succeed. 7 mid-terms is a lot but open-book open note makes them much better.
I genuinely enjoyed Dr. Sandbergs class! She got a LOT of negative feedback last semester, but I never found the course to be difficult. As long as you keep up with the reading, you should be fine. It also helps if you have interest in psych. Shes really funny during lecture, and its clear she cares about the students experience in her class.
Probably the worst professor I have ever experienced in my life. The material is boring, and her teaching makes it worse. Really don't understand how she still has a job. Nothing about this class is worthwhile.
Honestly I just got back from the 3rd quiz of the semester and let me save you alot of trouble: don't freaking take this class. You might end up with a good/decent grade but the pain and annoyance isnt worth it. She is so disorganized, doesnt take criticisms genuinely, and the structure makes the class harder than necessary. Save yourself please.
GET READY TO READ. You teach yourself the whole course through weekly readings of the textbook. She covers topics that are somewhat related to what you read but not really. She is a mess and changed the syllabus multiple times and the quiz format twice throughout the semester. When she switched the quizzes to open note and they got 100x harder.
Does not lecture any of the material, goes on tangents every class, absolutely no teaching. She changed the syllabus 3 times, altered overall grade percentages, and switched quiz format. You will need to read yourself to learn all material. Course was very much a mess and was not structured at all. Would not recommend this professor.
Professor Sandberg is one of a kind. She cares about her students beyond the classroom. Yes, she goes on tangents, frequently takes a lot of class time to discuss "class business," and changes the structure of the syllabus like like no other, but she is a great professor. I have taken her classes three semesters in a row now, you will be fine.
Dr. Sandberg is genuinely trying, even if it doesn't feel that way. She just added learning assistants to the course, which should help in the future. She struggles with organization, but she changes the class to try and be adaptable to the student's needs. Next semester they are cutting the enrollment in half (two sections), which will be great!
Professor Sandberg talked about the syllabus for the first whole month. Be ready to learn the content yourself because she is not going to be teaching. quizzes are 30% of your grade and there is 5 so you have to know your content. She later made the quiz and final take home making the whole class a lot more easier. Don't expect to learn from her.
Sandberg is disorganized and maybe a tad crazy, but that makes her a hilarious and engaging lecturer. She's extremely willing to accommodate complaints about the class-- she decreased the value of quizzes in the middle of the semester. The quizzes are kind of hard-- quizlets are a must. Most assigned non-textbook reading can be avoided if you want.
One of the most useless classes here at Vanderbilt. Class time was wasted by her talking about nothing or watching random youtube videos. Professor Sandberg made me hate psychology because of how boring she made it. Four open notes, open book tests (2 of ours were take-home), and final essays.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had at Vandy. Does not teach one thing. It is pretty comical. Spends the entire class doing "classroom business" and does not teach. Super flighty and all over the place. Loves to play on her Ipad with colors and tools. Pretty absurd. Super nice person but don't take this class.
Wastes time in class, I never went and just looked at the notes she posted and it was fine. Tests aren't bad but as with most math classes, you can make silly errors. Homework once a week and four exams + a final. Sandberg is all over the place and did not help me learn a single thing. You can get an A, but don't go to class.
Easy class, but she is very elitist and lectures are pointless. 90% of what's on the tests is directly from the homework and textbook and tests are all open-note. During actual class-time, you will learn little to nothing, and most of the time is spent in group discussions, which last way too long. She won't respond to emails, but TAs will.
The most useless class I've taken at Vanderbilt and frustrating that it's required for my major. Assigns lots of work from the textbook, but offers no guidance/rubric. Relies on group work and students teaching the material to themselves instead of using class time for lectures. She's nice but has a very hands-off and disorganized approach
This is truly the worst professor I have ever had... very elitist and thinks that everything she does is the right way. Every class is a complete joke and nothing ever gets done. Assignments are confusing and are all over the place on brightspace, which makes my blood boil. No path, direction, or goals for this course, it is actually unreal.
It is shocking how a professor like this is still able to teach at a university... not one ounce of meaningful lecture was done the entire semester; no clear guidelines for course, absurd amount of "group work," revisions of a two sentence assignment that are a waste of time. Unfortunate how psych majors have to take this course.
This class was overall an easy A, all homeworks are graded for completion and the bigger assignments are graded fairly easily. They give almost no feedback on major assignments. Attendance is not mandatory and honestly not necessary, she just talks nonsense the whole time. Very very unorganized and confusing professor.
Personally, I think people are too hard on Dr. Sandberg. She's kind, funny, and makes herself available if you need help. She literally talked to the department to make PSY 2150 a proposal as opposed to an experiment you carry out because she said that's not realistic in the timeline of a semester. For a required course, she made it manageable.
Assignments had no rubric and were all over the place on Brightspace, and sometimes you'd get a zero bc you had no idea what she wanted. She also doesn't have an assignment schedule up, like every other peabody teacher, so assignments are sometimes posted the night before they're due. Figuring out what needs to be done just isn't worth it.
the hw assiagnment is crazy all over brightspace and they are not clear at all. When u thought u completed all the homework on the assignment checklist there pops up another says it's due tomorrow morning. Lectures are boring, she could talk about something totally unrelated to class for ten minutes. Idk how they make this boring class mandatory.
She's wonderful!
This class was beyond annoying. There was never any clear grading criteria or examples to reference until the very end of the semester. You essentially have to read the textbook and teach yourself everything. She teaches almost nothing in lecture so I found it hard to be motivated to go. This class is required but take it with someone else.
I love Dr. Sandberg as a person, but she's unfortunately not an amazing professor. Lectures are all over the place, and I hardly ever found that they were worth attending. Grading is primarily done by the three TAs, and it seems to be very subjective. With that said, it's not a hard class if you put in the work throughout the semester.
All over the place. Easy to do well in the class if you contact TAs but lectures are useless and so are office hours. Expect to be confused and stressed but in the end if you put heart into your work and try you will do well. Easy A all things considered but she is soooo confusing as a person
Absolutely loved Professor Sandberg. Very caring and passionate, clear rubrics.
She was always willing to help you out with your grade and truly cares.
The lectures are hit-or-miss, but the class is manageable if you put in the work. Definitely rely on the TAs and unstuck ai for guidance. It's an easy A if you stay organized and engaged.
My fav prof ever. Can't recommend enough. So nice & understanding. I took 2 of her classes bc I like her so much & 1 of them didn't even count towards anything. U can reach out to her about anything (doesn't even have to be related to the class) & she will help u. She helped me through a death in the family & even wrote me a letter of rec.
I took MHS2520 & PSY1111 w/ her. Both were very manageable & it's so easy to get a good grade. She is very chill & always willing to work w/ students & give extensions. She is extremely knowledgeable about autism & actually wrote a textbook (100% optional). The required readings are very interesting & I had a lot of creative freedom on assignments.
She is extremely unorganized and still does not know how to navigate brightspace. The course itself is fairly easy because half of the time assignments aren't even available or the due dates are wrong. She never stops commenting on herself and tries to be funny but is not. I understand that people enjoy her but I personally do not.
Class wasn't difficult, able to reassess most assignments, just have to pay attention to weekly checks that are pretty easy. Attendance is necessary, but good luck staying awake. She lectures long and strays from topic every class period with no clear lesson plan. The drowning random lectures drove me crazy.
She did not use class time wisely at all. It was spent on one or two irrelevant hypothetical questions instead of what we would be tested on. One problem set and one InQuizitive quiz due a week (not bad). Exams are lockdown browser with multiple choice and three short answer but not too hard if you teach yourself the material from the textbook.
CORE is not a typical class so I can't speak to her abilities to actually teach but she was caring and did not make us work harder than any other professor. She attempted to get the class engaged even if it meant randomly calling on students. She seems accommodating and engaging enough.
