A difficult class, be prepared to work hard. However, this is the best teacher I've had to date (5th year bio major) and prepares her students very well for transfering into University program. Cares about your grasp of the knowledge. She's funny and coo
Great person overall
Dr Lisa knows her stuff! She is a great teacher and prepares her students well.
She is the best professor at RCC I think. Her class is not easy, but you learn a lot.
Very encouraging and fun! Cares about her students. Wants you to succeed and helps you to succeed. She is such a contrast from the discouraging lecture instructor that accompanied her lab.
She makes it interesting. She will help you grasp everything Ms. Virginia confuses you on. She WANTS YOU TO SUCCEED! Highly recommended. Can you find her teaching a lecture? Go for it!
hard, hard class but the teacher is very good. She cares about you like a big mama :-)
Awesome teacher. Very Understanding, cheerfull and fun. i highly recomend this class and the teacher.
You will feel like youve learned all that you possibly can after this class! Shes so helpful and sweet and has the cutest accent. What makes the class difficult is that theres so much info to learn. But Dr. Lisa makes it worth while. Both the lecture and lab were very exciting Have fun, study.
She will make you sweat, but you will learn tons! She challenges students and encourages them to continue on fighting. I am sad that she took a leave of absence. Hope her mother gets better so she can return and teach. This class is especially hard if you do not do well in multiple choice. I highly recommend taking her when she comes back.
What agreat professor! She helps you suceede and challenges you. She's very helpful and she won't leave you behind.Don't jack around her class it turns her off and that means she will bury you alive. She's a lovely critter.
She is a very wonderful teacher. She's very helpful and has a cute personality.
wish all my professors were like her!
One of the best and most encouraging teachers i've had. Offers the best explanations for every concept. Study hard in this class and she will reward you.
thick english accent!
First I was scared because I was taking Eng 1A @ the same time during summer session(6 weeks) but I servive! Because Dr.Lisa is the best! she is extremely nice and helpful. She is very direct ! give extra credit. I learned alot from just lisening because she is funny! I Love the 1 sheet deal! She teach u study skill too!Definitly take her class!
She is very cool instuctor, she makes things very easy.
Dr. Lisa is amazing! You must study your butt off but she is very encouraging and will do anything to help you understand. I really enjoyed having her as a teacher!!
oh my gosh she so british! i love it! shes so funny and very very helpful. it was my second time in this class and my favorite teacher hands down! highly recommended. more than willing to help her students! take her :)
a little hyper for me. Read ahead of lecture. Was a little hard to get 20 min with her, our scheadules didnt agree. However, she grades on a very generous curve in the end. She makes the class VERY fun to learn...I would take her again.
She is by far the best teacher I have ever had hands down- and I've been to UCR and Crafton! No matter what happens, she's upfront, honest, fair, and motivating. Absolutely wonderful. Teaching is truly her calling.
Dr. Lisa is one of the best teachers at RCC, hands down. Knowing that, her class isn't perfect, and you're not going to get a good grade unless you really, really give it the effort this class demands. Her class is engaging, but not very helpful. Expect to hunt through every resource you can find to get a grasp on what to learn.
Her accent and British jokes are the best. She is one of the best teachers that I have had at RCC. Very organized, straight up, and to the point. Be prepared to study a lot but in turn, you will learn a lot. Fair grading, I wish I did better, but with two children, I could not eat, sleep, and breathe Micro.
Overall Dr. Lisa is nice but tends to be a bit sarcastic. Very energetic. Study hard & read the text, lecture was mostly just reading off of the power points, it would have been nice to have more explanation on the subject matter. Weekly quizzes so attendance is important. Make thorough disease cards, they are essential for the final.
She is definetely energetic which keeps me interested. She uses pretty good home-made and real-life examples to explain micro terms and diagrams. Love her accent and is easily understood. Lectures are all about her powerpoint which you print out yourself and fill in the blanks in class while she speaks. Exams are mostly on powerpoint material.
If you are female, your in a good place. Gender bias!!!! This is micro overkill. think twice before taking this professor. Good Luck u will need it. You been warned
Dr. Lisa is an amazing teacher.. truly there are no suprises to what she expects of you and she is always willing to help. Whoever complains about her class either isn't taking it seriously or has no business in the scientific field. She actually came on a Sunday to help out her students! She is energetic and will prepare you for the next level.
Energetic, helpful and clear
Dr.Lisa was great. Make sure you keep up with the disease cards. All her tests are on the power point and disease cards. Really cares about her students. Microbiology is hard but Dr.Lisa makes it fun and interesting. I recommend her.
Do not listen to the comment that states she is gender biased. This is not true. I am male and she was really friendly and helpful towards me. The lab is really easy. She gives quizzes every week. If you follow the powerpoints, do disease cards, and study. You will be fine. She does like to be tricky on the multiple choice segment.
She's committed to turning out highly accountable, knowledgeable medical pros. She will challenge you, entertain you, belittle you, remonstrate you, joke with you, pull out every tool she knows to push your buttons and have you rise to the occasion. More than one 4.0 student said "I feel humbled" in this class. I never worked so hard for a 'C.'
I took her class over the summer & must say that it was absolutely BRUTAL yet equally satisfying. There's no doubt in my mind that she loves her job & loves to see students succeed--it's rare to find professors in RCC with the same enthusiasm & knowledge as her. I rank her as my top 3 RCC professors in terms of quality education and professionalism
She is super helpful. You can tell she cares about her students. Mircro is hard but I enjoyed having her.
Dr. Lisa is a great professor! Her course was pretty rough but if you study a lot and get with her often, you should be fine.
Dr. Lisa is an awesome professor and very passionate about Microbiology. She is tough but if you go see her for clarification you'll do well. If you feel that she belittles you, GET OVER IT YOU"RE IN COLLEGE NOW; that her way of motivating you to do better. Take her if your serious about entering Allied Health; you wont regrete it!
There are very few professors I have utter respect for (almost all in Life Sciences) and Dr. Lisa is tops. She works you hard but will work hard in return & she'd do it for each of the hundreds of students she has per semester. She has all the same energy & enthusiasm of a newly minted prof straight out of school but w/all the wisdom of experience.
I was so impressed with Dr. Lisa in my Microbiology class I chose to take her again for Human Genetics. Again she proved to be an awesome instructor and still just as hot. I really wish she was teaching A&P, =^(. She cares a great deal for her students. Pay attention in her class; print out her PowerPoints; take good notes, and you'll do fine.
This was my favorite teacher EVER!!! Love her!!! She is so hard, because she cares! She wants everyone to give their all. She makes you work so hard till you are in tears. In the end, you will thank her for it. She helps you reach your full potential. I am so grateful to her for really teaching me! She really cares for her students too! Love her!
Hard but an amazing teacher. Has a british accent that is easy to understand, shes funny and intelligent. You won't regret taking her if you apply yourself. If you give full effort you will pass.
Extremely hard!! I am a straight A student and usually take multiple classes each semester, but I could not get above a C. I had to drop because the tests were WAY to hard. Save time and money and DO NOT take her!!!!!!
SHE IS THE WORST TEACHER EVER. STAY AWAY FROM HER. sHE DISCOURAGES THE STUDENTS INSTEAD OF ENCOURAGING THEM. SHE IS SO MEAN AND ARROGANT. SHE'LL MAKE YOU HATE YOURSELF. DON'T TAKE HER. NO NO NO. HER TESTS ARE EXTREMELY HARD, YOU'LL GET A C AS A MAX GRADE
She was my hardest professor I have ever had, and my favorite professor I've ever had!!! She is very strict, yet if you are a hard worker, she will help you as much as you need. She really helped me become a better student. Love her!!!
She is a great professor- fun & full of energy everyday. Her accent/sound affects help to retain info. I ddnt try my hardest & got a B, so dnt be discouraged by the weeded out people who can't hang. This class will let u know if u're in the right field or not- Extra cred avail, 3 exams, fun lab, no papers, do all disease cards (they get easier)!
Super hard teacher. Disease cards take much time to do. instead of studying from my exams,I spent hours doing them, and they were not helpful for my final exams. I do not think that 's a correct way to force students to do something that doesn't work for them. Stay away if you want a good grade for this class.
Take her if you can. Still the best option in all the three campus RCC Micro Departments. Study hard and never give up. She puts in the effort and the offers to help students succeed more than those other professors. Good luck friends.
If you are taking this class to really LEARN the material and work hard, take Dr. Lisa. If you just want to skate by, take someone else. She is very dedicated, I have never had a professor offer to come in on a Saturday to hold a study session. Dr. Lisa is a professor that knows how to teach! I am a better student because of her.
I could write a 1000 words on why i LOVE this professor. She's organized, structured, responds to your emails, gives out study guides, and really wants to prepare you for the nursing program...she definitely makes you work for that A but she will be more than helpful to get you there
Dr. Lisa is quite a character with a good sense of humor. She is going to tell you stuff without emphasis that she recommends. Don't let it slip by you, do it. Get a white board, read the chpt. ,smmry, and ?'s. Do your disease cards to an excess, but know them in the end to a more realistic extend. Ppts. better print them. You'll do fine.
Very good teacher. I would recommend to anyone with interest in this field. I'm just not a science guy so I had difficulty in the class.
She is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She's all over the place and is not very clear. Power points are NOT helpful. She assigns quizzes and then gives them to the class before that date. Stay away from this professor
Don't do it!! Not only is she is all over the place, I found her to be rude to students several times and I did not care for her using profanity during her lectures. I have never had a professor that used such language and I find it very unprofessional. The worst class I ever took! Too bad I can not retake w someone else.
Was one of the hardest, most challenging, professor i've had. She includes all the powerpoints on her website prior to the semester beginning. Her quizes are hard if you're group doesn't do their disease cards correctly. She offers optional extra credit at the end which can boost your final exam by 10%. Definitely feel more confident for rn program
I absolutely loved Dr. Lisa! There was never a dull moment in class, and her expectations were very clear from the start. You earned the grade you got! Your level of input and participation showed in your exam scores. The class was very educational and she helped you if you needed it! She even had small extra credit opportunities! Take her!-Maranda
I, personally, managed to fail her class, however, this was due to my apathetic nature when it came to the assigned homework, which also aided in the decline of my quiz and test scores, however, Doctor Lisa never ceased to make it a strong point that she was there to help me. She was incredibly kindhearted, personable and all around approachable.
Dr. Lisa is honestly one of the best professors I have taken. I have attended schools in both Riverside and Los Angeles and she is great!! Know your metrics.. she pushes metrics because most of her students are in the nursing filed and its essential. Do your work and study hard and you will pass. She cares about her students and their success!! :)
She's passionate about this subject but needs to remember she's teaching an intro class, She made this class much harder than it should be. She's all over the place, very confusing & comes off as rude and acknowledges it. She's not very helpful even during office hours, she rushes you while you're asking questions. Big mistake taking her
I took Dr. Lisa's class SPRG 16. I absolutely loved her class. She expects you to put in the work and will tell you how to study. Her tests can be hard but she makes herself available to students. She is very helpful! Don't study the night before the class, you won't pass. Study a little after every lecture and start the disease cards early!
One of the best proffesors in RCC. I took her class in spring& I really missed her how she was passionate for her job. You'll learn a lot in her class but you have to work hard . She really cares for her students so she is there when u need help. Even if micro is a hard class & i am not a native, I succeed with her help. Recommended for everyone!
Dr. Lisa is an incredible professor! She is fantastic and loves when students pay attention to what's happening with diseases outside of class! I love this teacher and would take this class all over again!!
Dr. Lisa is one of the best professors I have taken! I took her for Mic1 spring 2016 and plan to take her human genetics class as well. She is passionate and knowledgeable; she will take time to help with questions outside of class as well. She also gave me a lot of advice when I changed my major this last semester. I can't rate her highly enough!
I have been taking college courses on and off for four years. I have only had to drop three classes ever. Microbiology with this professor was one of them. She can be very rude, all over the place, makes things much more difficult than they NEED be. I'm an A student and she was jus awful, only science teacher at RCC that I would say to AVOID!!
Dr. Lisa is by far one of the best professors I have ever had at RCC. This class was not easy, but it was honestly a fun class to study for. She is super helpful if you're having any trouble at all. Make sure to study long and hard, and learn your disease cards early! I highly recommend taking this class!
Dr. Lisa was an incredible professor and really cares about her students and their learning outcomes. She not only teaches you the material that you need to succeed, but also emphasizes how to go about studying it so that you retain it, especially important if you are going into the allied health field. Hard class, but with a great instructor!
Dr. Lisa is a phenomenal professor and person. The material covered is tough, but she provides students with everything necessary to succeed in her course. She has tons of office hours if you need extra help and truly cares about her students, but she will not let you pass if you don't give your all. Fun/interesting lecture and lab to boot!
I just finished taking Dr. Lisa's micro class of spring 2017, at first i was very nervous because all i have ever heard from peers is that her class is the toughest thing they've ever taken. Let me tell you the class is challenging BUT she gives you everything you need to pass. Do not slack off! be sure to study and you'll be fine.
Loathed this class and kind of didn't like her. I thought she made everything harder than it really was. She was a little condescending. BUT she does have the material in order for you to pass. I did cry because of this class but I survived! (But I don't recommend taking her. Take micro somewhere else if you had a choice tbh)
Dr. Lisa is one of the best professors at RCC. If you want to prepare properly, if you are going into the nursing program or something that it is going to actually matter that you apply yourself- take her! If you cannot handle Dr. Lisa then you probably, hate to say, aren't cut out for a science based career. NUDGE SHEETS ARE GOLD! #metrics #groups
Awful teacher, condisending, intemitating and hard to approach with concerns. Just a horrible experience, teaching style is terrible and inhibits learning.
She will always quiz you on your metrics so defanitely practice those and disease cards were difficult but helpful in the end. She made the labs fun. She got to know all of us as students and as people which i really appreciated.
Dr. Lisa is an amazing professor! Not going to lie, this class requires HARD WORK and time, you can NOT be slacking off for this class. Her lectures can go a bit fast, but you can print the powerpoints ahead of time. Dr. Lisa may seem harsh and intimidating, but she does it out of care and honestly wants the best for us.
Dr. Lisa cares so much about her students. She really wants to see you succeed in your future careers, and takes it upon herself to prepare you. She is super accessible, and gives great study tips. Her tests were difficult, but there are multiple ways to make up points--especially in the lab. She's very clear about what you need to know.
Dr. Lisa truly cares about her students. This was my first science class in any capacity and I can say that I never expected to learn as much as I did in this class. She is truly brilliant and makes what I thought would be a rather drab summer into exciting and eventful one! STUDY STUDY STUDY!
Her lectures keep your attention, and she explains stuff really well. She's an awesome professor but her tests are hard. You can't slack off in her class at all. If you don't study you won't pass. But she's super nice and is very passionate about biology. I would definitely take her again, I learned a lot and ended up loving biology!
Love her ! Really cares about her students wants them to pass she understands that we all have personal things going on she will give you opportunities to make up the work test and lab exams are fair all you need to do is study and pay attention to what she says in class
She is so awesome!! She gives understandable lectures as long as you pay attention, you'll do fine. She is more than willing to explain stuff more if you have questions and always has office hours! I highly recommend her!
This class was the biggest challenge of my college career. She is very hard to learn from. I feel like she did anything possible to make this class harder than it should be. Giving new info last week of class was mind blowin. So much info thrown at once you cant remember it. Take micro somewhere else this is not the prof you want. she rates herself
Most reviews say she's, "nice, caring" etc. She is. HOWEVER, she's also a bit arrogant and highly critical of students. Goes off on tangents 24/7 during lecture, Disease cards are a waste of time, busy work. Also, she didn't offer extra credit for our class as she did for others, kinda unfair imo. Passed w an A. I'd avoid taking her.
Do not sign up, if you care about your grade you will end up disappointed anyways, i could not pass any single on of her lab quizzes or test i was always short of an A+ by three points, i took her during corona and she did not return any of my emails. She seems approachable but she will be smart about it, she is vague, and gets red mad when ur late
Test are very difficult lots tricky questions. She doesn't teach it the way she test for it. Power points have lots of blanks to that need to be filled out even with that for the exams you need to listen to what she says not always what on the power point. Nudge sheet is helpful but not the one you look for the answer that is useless for the exams.
Took her in Spring 20. If you are serious about your education take her, otherwise dont. Avoid the textbook and concentrate on her PowerPoints. I had to work hard in her class, but gained a lot of confidence as a result. All her assignments and exams are challenging, so make sure to prepare properly.
Microbiology with Dr. Lisa is without a doubt the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. I cannot state enough how hard this class is. You will be pushed to your absolute limit, to the point where you don't think you can do it any longer. However, when it's finished you'll know the material better than anyone. Dr. Lisa can TEACH.
I went into this class anxious and worried because of her ratings but they quickly dissipated because she is a phenomenal professor! I wish she taught other subjects. There are quizzes weekly & you really have to take the time to study for the exams. I used the book but her PPs were most helpful. Tough class but worth it, youll know your stuff!
Micro will be difficult! However Dr lisa is a great teacher and will help guide u to ur success. 3 exams and a final being worth 200 points that inc. diseases cases. Every week theres a disease quiz so make your cards! Its hard at first but u get used to it so make sure ur studying! Lectures are v important! And do ur study guides! Good luck :)
NO PRESSURE, NO DIAMONDS! I recently finished her Microbiology course, and it was without a doubt the hardest science class I've ever taken in my life! With that said, I feel like I know the material thoroughly, and so am grateful for her teaching method. Dr. Lisa cares about her students and wants them to succeed, so try your best and STUDY HARD!!
She is tough, microbiology is tough. Her standards are high but reachable. You will need to work hard for this class, you cannot just breeze by for this one. But she really cares, you can hear it in her voice and the inspirational speeches she gives. She convinced me to go further than my original goal and pushed me, really changed my life.
Personally I would avoid her at all costs. She is a very sweet teacher but sometimes makes you feel like you aren't smart enough. Her comments on graded assignments are very sarcastic instead of trying to help you see what you did wrong. I knew coming into the class it was going to be difficult but she makes you want to switch majors.
Dr. Lisa is an amazing lecturer which made class enjoyable. Micro is not easy but she makes it interesting and is clear of what is expected. I enjoyed how organized the class was and how many resources she provided for us. Make sure you understand the material well and study hard because exam questions can be tricky. For me, lab was the hardest prt
Foul class, final was foul and has nothing to do with the objective learnings of an ACTUAL INTRO micro class due to unnecessary disease cases we learn. Made the final into the format of a nursing CLINICAL exam which there is no reason for considering its a prereq class, a intro class, and is at a CC. FOUL, sets you up for failure. FOUL.
Microbiology alone is a TOUGH class & the majority of students are going into a TOUGH major - to see bad reviews on Dr. Lisa cause she's TOUGH just shows that those students are not ready for the journey ahead. She gives you EVERYTHING. She literally has review sheets available for her exams. Do they expect the answers on a sliver platter?
My best advice to anyone interested in taking this class is to be 100% mentally prepared because Dr. Lisa WILL break you in many ways. If you have any doubts that you might not be ready to take this class then it's best to wait because you do not want to retake it. Think like Dr. Lisa and I promise you'll do well. ALWAYS be 10 steps ahead of her.
The HARDEST class I've ever taken & she's harsh. Prepare to MEMORIZE! You'll have lots of tears involved & will question if it's the right major for you. Need to have lots of confidence, thick skin & discipline in order to pass her class. Study her PowerPoints & diseases bc test questions are the twisted versions of them - even little details.
Dr. Lisa is an AMAZING teacher. The class IS HARD, its not supposed to be easy, if u slacked off it showed and that's not on the prof. Use her PowerPoints, nudge sheets, and STUDY. This is not an easy class but its do-able if u put in the work. U have to know ur stuff and be on top of it!! you thought this was hard wait till ur in the program.
Dr L takes pride in making her class extremely difficult. She teaches the material, but exams are different from material and extremely difficult. Dr. L does not convey the material clear and is very confusing in everything and anything she says. Had to withdraw from class due to her unprofessionalism and poor way of teaching.
Took this class in spring of '23 & this was by far my hardest class. However, Lisa seems to have a soft spot for people who have taken her class before. I had to withdraw the semester prior, took it again & got an A (barely). The grade is doable, it's also a major pain but my advice would be to study EVERY slide off her powerpoints. GL future nurse
RUDEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! Constantly belittles students and makes them feel bad. Told the whole class that they will never graduate! She is the head of the department so they dont do anything.
She is very knowledgeable past the material in the class. Is passionate about the class and makes learning fun and interesting. Great sense of humor and is very caring for her students. She is always there for her students and a great professor.
Dr. Lisa is very harsh towards her students. Her “nudge sheets” don't match with the test which is supposed to be a tool that helps you. One of the worst/hardest class I have taken during my time at RCC. Many students do not make it until the end of the semester. Beware.
She is awesome, it is a difficult class but is not impossible, study everyday and you will do fine. She can be blunt which can come off as rude to some people, but I disagree. I would rather someone tell me the truth so I do not make the same mistake again. She is actually very kind and caring and wants everyone to succeed but you have to study.
I absolutely love and adore Dr. Lisa. She is an amazing professor. Really cares/cheers for her students. Students really misunderstand Dr. Lisa. She's there to teach and help you, not to hold your hand. She is fair and thorough. All of her lecture notes are on the exam. She also provides nudge sheets and practice questions, USE IT! I will miss her
