She teaches really fast I have to go back and re-teach myself what she taught in class. She does not give you a study guide for the test, she only gives you example problems out the book which are never on the test. She is very helpful if you go during her office hours.She is a sweet person.
She talks about her church a lot, which no one wants to hear about, but other than that, she's amazing. I failed MAC1105 soo many times, but she explains everything sooo well! She breaks it all down for you so its easy to understand. If you fail, you should be ashamed!
Great teacher. People that commented earlier are probably failing her class. I would agree that if you fail her class you are soooo STUPID!!!! She is sweet and does mention her church a lot, what do you expect people, she's the Pastor's wife. She doesn't give grades and she will fail you with a smile.

Wonderful, not even gonna lie she teaches as if you are still in high school which is very helpful. Mrs. Simmons is nice and real so she will tell you the truth with a smile. Get her and keep her.

She explains everything in great detail so even if you aren't good at math, she makes it easier for you. Attend class regularly, she takes attendance everyday plus this way you won't miss any material. Good techer

She can come off rude, especially when someone asks a question you never know what to expect. But if you do all the necessary stuff, you will be fine. She really does try to help your grade be the best it can be, but you have to put in the effort. Teaching wise, she might not be everyones style. Fast pace, expects you know the majority of the stuff
Her physical class is really unnecessary unless you dont understand the material. She does break everything down step by step but she moves very quickly. The My Math Lab doesnt count that much towards your grade but it helps you to understand the material. She also smiles ALL THE TIME which becomes a little annoying.
Prof Simmons is a great teacher....she is easy to understand, and teaches very clearly...She opens up all of the course compasses for you at the end of the semester....She is nice and a pastor's wife, and she loves to smile.
She was nice in the beginning of the year but in the end she was rude and started snapping on students who had questions in class. She teaches the class well and makes the lessons easy to understand. If you can copy the lessons and ignore all her extra nonsense the class isn't horrible
Wonderful class. Take her if you're willing to learn because she will help you. A wonderful teacher very sweet and kind she deserves the upmost respect and she is very kind. I was blessed to receive a B in the class and I not to fond of math . But if you want to pass copy the notes ,read, the book, go to class and do coursecompass.
Mrs Elise Simmons is very nice at the beginning of the semester. Then approaching the middle of the semester you'll begin to notice her nice attitude slowly fading away based on your inquiries of this subject. And although she keeps a smile on her face, it seems to be a smile just for show b/c she can get aggravated quick and hide it with a smile.
My advice to you guys is not to take her class. She is rude but one thing she'll do it with a smile. Their were older people in the class probably older than her and she spoke to them like children. If you are stuck with her, you better be really good in math. Use course compass. Her examples are out of the book which is useless.
ms simmons is probably the worst math teacher ive ever had. she seems sweet but she has a bad attitude. do not ask questions cause she will accuse you of "talking in the back" or texting while she was speaking. if you do bad on a test its cause "you just never pay attention" horrible horrible teacher. she does not care about her students grades.
Mrs.Simmons is about her stuff when it comes to trig. Like any other Teacher at FAMU you have to worship her office hours to get that academic boost. She is goes step by step, but kind of get really restless in the end because she has to repeat herself. She puts a smile on all the time but it can be kind of sinister.
I do not think that Mrs. Simmons is a bad instructor. She knows her stuff. HOWEVER, her 'in-class' personality is not appealing. If your not doing well, it's as if she's mocking you for it. And she won't hesitate to "whisper" your bad quiz grade outloud WHILE smiling. If I could go back I wouldnt have taken her class.
She a cool teacher..She got a smart mouth though and she always wearing a smile. Go To Class!! Her notes are thourough and her tests are pretty simple..but you MUST study..MyMathLab really an't a big deal..oh and go head and buy the book. She uses it and gives homework..Show her that you want to pass the class. EFFORT is a must.

She was straight but very sarcastic when you are unsure of something. She is funny sometimes but most of the time she can be very arrogant. I remember one day she told the class " I already got my degree,get yours" last time I checked that's the whole purpose we're in college o_0. Don't recommend her but if you take her just study & take notes.
She's pretty good. She goes over math several times to make sure you get it. At first, she's a bit creepy because she smiles all the time, but she's alright. Kinda funny and sarcastic. MyMathLab is mandatory and you can find the book within mml. Please don't buy the book.
Mymathlab is mandatory but if you do it consistently you'll do fine. All her test are multiple choice and she gives thorough reviews. Her final was realllly easy, she used questions from previous test. I passed with an A.
I came in this class with a mindset to at least pass with a C and try no to fail. Very sarcastic and demeaning. Aced Calc barely got a B in trig. She is insulting towards you if you have a question, and is little to no help in class. She will knowingly leave you behind.

If you are good at math you might get a c. If you are OK or bad then you'll fail. She's not helpful and she expects you to know everything. She's cool person but not a great teacher.

I took this in the spring of 2014 and it was my second attempt. I was not a math person so the interactive learning did somewhat help. Only passed one test the whole semester, did fair on my math lab and I got a D on the final exam. Keep in mind i was very nice to her and was always engaged. I ended up with a B. I recommend her. Just be nice
She encourages you drop her class.I LITERALLY LIVED in the mathlab study hall to pass this class. Out of the 4 tests my highest was a 72. Even the students that took trig and cal were failing. Interactive Learning #FAIL!!! Mymath Lab is a MUST!!! I passed because she was forced to curve the class grade. WARNING FOR HARD WORKERS ONLY!!!
One word, SARCASTIC, lol. But, Professor Simmons is hilarious. Her sarcasm might bother you, but she's an excellent professor. Attendance is apart of your grade so make sure you go every time. She does give pop quizzes and her tests are pretty simple. Pay attention and study. Yes, you have mathlab and the book is online. Good luck :).
Honestly, if you have attitude problem do not take her. Mymathlab is required because that's where her gradebook is. You have to work your butt off to pass. You have to know how to prioritize. I honestly thought i was going to pass that class with a C. i pass 2 out 4 test. I aced the final with 100% that's what make me have that A. Do not drop it.

Her lectures are very vague goes over a few problems and expects you to just know it. From the beginning she encourages you to drop out of her class do it before to save your money. For liberal arts she isn't bad. College Algebra worst class I've has at FAMU thus far she is so RUDE disrespectful treats the class like a middle school class room. Long story short she isn't a good professor she knows this. She doesn't care though either way she getting paid. So in terms of caring for your grade knowing algebra isn't an easy concept she think your supposed to know it. Like that. Freshman or upper class man don't take her.

SHE IS HORRIBLE. I took her because it was the only math class left and now I see why it was the only math class left. She does not teach and when she tries to teach she talks way to fast. She will make you feel stupid when you ask questions and she is very sarcastic and indirect.
I took her in the Fall. She's very sarcastic, talks fast, doesn't explain anything thoroughly. Her test are hard and she doesn't just give you a grade you got to work for it.
Passing her class is possible, but i wouldn't recomend taking her class. you have to teach yourself some of the material because she's not eager to explain things.

Mrs. Simmons is the type of professor that makes you think so she won't answer a question directly. If you're good at pre-calc, I recommend her if not then find someone else. She teaches really fast but she doesn't grade hard. You have a really good chance of getting a B or higher if you do your work and study.

I took her again from MAC 1105, really good teacher. She looks out and she is compassionate. She is sarcastic, but she really is a cool professor. You need a solid foundation in math in order to pass Trig. She can help but she will not re-teach college algebra if you don't know the fundamentals. Take her if you can!
Ms. Simmons is a great professor sometimes she can be rude and a little sarcastic. The homework are on my math lab try to get an A on that. The examples she do in class are the same or very similar the test. Try to get above C's on the test and quiz. You should pass this class with a C or higher. Do your math labs on time don't wait to last minute

Ms. Simmons is a really nice professor that cares for her students. she drops 5 of your lowest quizzes and 5 of your lowest mymathlabs. she gives a study guide for every test to help you enforce the information in the lessons. if you have an A in the class you don't have to take the final exam.
She is an ok teacher but she is very unorganized. She had mistakenly graded students test many times and if you notice the mistake on your test later on she WONT change your grade, she doesnt utilize blackboard so she makes you come to her office to find out your grade, which is really annoying for students who work
Mrs. Simmons can be very sarcastic if asked a ridiculous question. She doesnt like to repeat herself at all but honestly, if you pay attention and take notes you wont have to ask questions because she is very thorough when it comes to teaching. She goes through things step-by-step and is very easy to keep up with. Overall, she is a good teacher!

This class was a little tough. You really just have to study for at least an hour a day and go to a tutor for extra help if shes not helping you understand it. Buy and do ALL your math labs. If you do that, you should get no lower than a C

I wouldn't recommend anyone take her. She clearly doesn't like her job or has the passion to teach. She'll teach a brand new chapter and expect you to know it. Constantly reminds you that you won't pass the class if you get an answer wrong and just a downer all together. No sympathy for anyone. She'll smile through the whole class, though.
Idk how she is in person, but I took her online and had a great experience. She was one of the easiest online professors. Everything was done on MyMathLab including the final exam, no need to go on campus. Dont worry about due dates, she opens everything back up at the end. Easy A !!! I will advise everybody to take her online.
Great Teacher, as long as you put in work for the class, then she will help you out with your grade. But if she thinks the class is slipping, she will drop a pop quiz on you so fast.

Man, I was really excited to start her class bc she spoke so highly of herself. Shes super nice, but the amount of work she assigns is ridiculous. The week of a test there will be 2 homework assignments, a quiz, a group math gym, a group project, and then she requires you to do 2 hours a week of online tutoring. Its literally insane.
Honestly a bit passive-aggressive but a nice woman. In terms of the class, I took Pre Calc in HS so it was easy for me, I already knew what I was doing. If you're very proficient in math, easy A. However, if you normally ask a lot of questions/need extra explanation, this class is not for you. She hates to go back over things after the 1st time.
If you don't participate, you will get a pop quiz. Sort of unorganized. Group projects will be assigned. It's easy to forget what is due, so make sure to join a group for your class. She is probably a better in person teacher than she is online.
She is such a sweetheart. She knows everyone's name in the class and literally treats us like a family. She can get snappy sometimes but it's all for the good. Her online class is easy to pass. If you fail, you just need help.
This is my second time in Dr. Simmons' class and regardless of what anyone else says, it's very easy to pass Dr. Simmons' class. All you have to do is show up and pay attention. I'd be lying if I said I'd ever taken notes in her class but I've passed both times I took her class. She teaches well and likes engagement to make sure you understand.
Love Professor Simmons! Show up and engage in class, easy A. She also like to get to know everyone of her students. Highly recommend!
In general, trig is a horrible math course. Professor Simmons makes it a little easier to understand. Make sure you PARTICPATE or you will be given a pop quiz. She assigns hella work, but is very lenient for when it's due. Go to class cause if you don't you will be lost on the material unless you read the book and naturally understand math.
Professor Simmons wants you to learn the math. You have to complete your assignments and study for your quizzes/test to earn a good grade. Go to her office hours where she provides support when you don't understand something. The group projects can be difficult if you don't have a group that completes their tasks. Studying is key.
Overall, this was not a hard course. I took this online, probably should have taken it in person. She is hard to reach out to. She seldom responded to my emails or canvas messages. She releases assignments as the semester progresses. The grade you see on CANVAS closer to the end is essentially what your final grade is so do well from the start.
She does not teach the coursework through the lectures she states in her syllabus. The course is self-paced, but it really means self-taught. Good luck getting an email response, unless you CC the head of the department. Easy work but if you don't have a tutor good luck because learning from Cengage is nearly impossible.
The class itself wasn't that bad but Dr. Simmons is extremely hard to reach out to. She never responded to emails, she never held office hours like she claimed she would, and she never provided video lectures on the lessons/chapters like she claimed she would in the syllabus. This was the true definition of a self taught course.
PARTICIPATE!!!!! I cannot stress how important participation is. If you don't understand something, ASK; she'll stop everything and make sure you get it, and won't move on until you do. Her tests are pretty simple. Go to her office, but pay attention to her office hours because if you go outside her office hours, she will not be there. overall a 10
Dr. Simmons is a nice professor with a sometimes demeaning tone. Her work is relatively easy, and she offers help if needed. Attending class and being an active student will smooth out your time in her class no problem.
