Very easy. You really don't even need the book. You take online lecture quizzes. She posts the notes online. You really don't even need to go to class if you didn't want to. Need to go to labs. Pre-lab quizzes online.
elisha swanson is a hot ass teacher ...but she cant teach for the life of her all she does is throw up powerpoints and expects us to kno what she is talkin about ...i dont think she ever used the book once ...class is hard as **** but realll easy on the eyes
She just reads the slides and doesn't use the book. You should read the book though for clarification with material. Do study guides. Study the problems bc she doesn't explain them a lot.
This class was IMPOSSIBLE! I didn't understand very much. Some of the stuff she posted within the notes was wrong. I stopped going to this class after i figured out that i learn as much in my room as i do in that classroom.
I thought she was a great teacher. Personally, I thought the class was very easy because I had already taken chem in highschool. But if someone had a question she always tried her best to explain it. Study guides were always online and she holds review sessions before tests. Online quizzes are easy, you get three tries! Great class!
she never uses the book...i never even bought it & still received a high B in the class. i never paid attention but went to all the classes & review sessions. overall she is a good teacher and if u ever need help she explains the material so u will understand it. the review guides are a big help and u get to use 5x8 notecard for every test!
go to all the classes and read over the notes and you should do fine. don't bother with the text - overall it's useless
The class is easy as long as you attend lecture twice a week and lab every other week, look over the powerpoints, and take the time to make a notecard for each test. The textbook will do nothing more than collect dust. Material sucks, but it is normally pretty easy to understand. I would recommend this for an easy gen. ed.
She's a really nice lady but not a good teacher in my opinion. I could stand up in front of the class and read the powerpoint, which is what she does. I will say that reading the book can only help on the tests but if you want to save money, don't buy it. Make sure you take the quizzes online and do them with friends. That will help boost your grad
Don't buy the text book, you won't open it. Lectures were pointless, any can stand at the front of the room and read a powerpoint to you. Take the online quizes with friends, complete study guides, and attend review sessions. Its a VERY easy gen ed, and I would reccommend her if you want an easy A or B.
In order to get an A in this class, all you have to do is Copy and Paste with font 5 on the note card she allows you to use for the test, do that and you will get an A. I figured this out on the second Test, I never read the book, never studied. I pulled my grade up from a D to a B doing this. You dont need to go to class, no surpise quizes.
Not a very good teacher at teaching the equivalent of a begining level Chemistry class. She insults us by reading power points to us and talking down to us when we asked a question about the content. She is subtle in her little digs which get old quite fast despite her looks she is quite lousy for all students.
1. Do NOT buy the book 2. There is no need to go to class-Print the notes off web-CT 3. Take the online quizzes with another person=guaranteed 100 4. Make a good notecard for tests
The text book was useless...she was nice when you needed help...very boring class...I got a C...
Don't buy the book! I got over 100% in the class because she curved each test ~20pts each time. Online quizzes boost your grade a lot. On an unimportant note, I'm a girl and I'll even say that she's really hot.
Easy! No reason to not get an A. You can bring a cheat sheet to each test written on both sides and she curves the tests. Got over a 100 in the class.
EASY! You get to use a cheat sheet for each test. She gives you a study guide so you know what to put on it, too. Don't buy the book...you never need it! Find someone to work with on online quizzes and you'll get a 100 everytime! She curves each test like 5-15 points everytime too! No need to go to class every class period either...
She's not bad.. the class isn't that boring.. but it's chemistry so... I think she made the best of the subject she could.. and it's very easy
Very sweet and super nice teacher! Online quizes are kinda hard but just do them with a friend and your good. All tests including the final you get a cheat sheet for plus there all curved, easy B, at the least... and don't buy the book, i haven't even opened mine!
Definately take this for an A. I would just read and make a cheat sheet from all the online lecture notes and get an A the night before. Never went to lectures. Online Quizes are awesome.
Very cool teacher who'll give points on tests; chem is still a super boring, but if you just want at least the B, pick her
She is a very helpful teacher and very nice. I had her for a very large lecture however which made it more difficult to pay attention or hear her if you're far in the back. I sat up front and had no problem. She does her best to answer any and all questions. She gives a study guide for every test as well as a review session.
Do not buy the book..you will never use it. Tests are not that easy, but if you actually go to class and pay attention you won't have anything to worry about. Classes are not mandatory and labs are easy.
She is really nice and helpful
Shes a very nice teacher. You dont really need to buy the textbook and you can miss class occasionally. She lets you use an index card on the test so just make a good one based off the study guide. Definitely better than Zona. Find someone to do lecture/lab quizes with. You can also miss around 2 of 6 labs.Take her for chem.Goodlooking teacher too.
You are better off reading the book and looking over the notes rather than going to class.
This class is not as easy as the ratings suggest. However, Mrs. Swanson is smoking hot. It is not impossible to get an A, but if your not good at chemistry it will take some work. Class is not mandatory, but there are some parts of the lecture that are helpful for the exams.
Shes young. And is the epitomy of wet-behind-the-ears. I stopped bothering going to class, and decided to ACTUALLY open the text book and try to teach my self from sratch- and had a Much better time.
Elisha was very attractive. The class was so interesting and really fun. She occassionally conducted her own personal experiments in the beginning of class that were fun to observe. She was also extremely helpful inside and outside of the classroom;]
She's really cool and even does experiments during lecture. Class isn't mandatory, but it helps A LOT if you go.
This class is SUCH an easy A it's unbelievable. She's very nice, so helpful and curves each test A LOT. Lets you use a cheatsheet on each test. The class is a lot easieer though if you attend lecture.
This is by far the easiest chem class at isu. Swanny is the best professor. She curves our four total tests a ridiculous amount. All that is needed is to study the night before an exam an u got an A. Labs are extremely easy and are impossible not to get an A on them. She gives out all notes online and makes a study guide before each exam.
If you go to class and print off notes you will be guaranteed at least a B. She also will round your grade up if you are close. If you struggle go to the review sessions and always go to lab, easy points. If you do these two things she will be more likely to raise your grade
She seems like a great teacher, but in a class of 200, its hard to grasp.
Amazing teacher! tests are easy and she always goes back and adds in extra points if a lot of students got the questions wrong. basically your grade on a test can jump an entire letter grade just by her adding in points. go to lecture and see her if you have questions. easy A and mrs. swanson is great!
Good teacher, easy test just try to go to class.
Great teacher, she is super helpful and will gladly take her time to answer questions.
She is really easy, you just have to go to class and listen and you'll do fine.
I'm so glad that I understand chemistry...hence why I have the time to pay attention to Elisha in class. I didn't think I even liked girls until I met Elisha!
She is easy going, but has hard tests. Allows a note card. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK.
Do not buy the book
Goes fast sometimes, nice on the eyes too :)
She is a good teacher but the material you go over in class does not reflect the test. The tests are a lot harder than you would expect them to be but she allows you to have a note card. Don't buy the book- you NEVER use it. She recommends a clicker but you don't get any points for participating with it so I wouldn't buy that either.
She is a really good teacher. She is willing to meet with you outside of class if you need help. The tests are pretty hard, but you can use a notecard. The review sessions before tests really help too. Don't buy the book.
She is the easier chem teacher. She goes a bit fast through the power point so if you hand write notes be prepared. I would highly recommend going in for tutoring just to be safe. The tests are a bit hard with some content we didn't learn about. But we get to use a notecard and she curves the test most times.
Very very very easy teacher. She is extremely helpful, and her tests are extremely easy. As long as you go to class, it is impossible to get lower than a B.
She is a good teacher but her test are hard and you probably do not need to buy the book.
She is a great teacher. She randomly does clicker questions, but class is not mandatory. Sometimes her lectures are hard to understand but if you go to her review sessions before the test you will get higher than a B.
If you go to class, you'll do well. Mrs. Swanson is very easy to talk to and very willing to help her students. She lets you use a notecard on all of the tests, including the final. Go to her review sessions for tests, they're helpful. Book isn't totally necessary but can be helpful for studying/if you miss or don't go to lectures.
She is a super easy teacher. If you need to take chem choose her. Her review sessions are a night before the exams and clarify almost everything. Don't need book so you save some money!! To make it even better she is hot!
She's a very nice and easy teacher. I didn't buy the textbook or do the study guides. I just took good notes in class, studied those, studied the powerpoints she uploaded to ReggieNet, and got As on all the tests. (100% on all except the last one) I took honors chem in high school, so all of it was review, except the last test. You'll be just fine.
Excellent experience with this class. Very helpful lecturer who gave a fun twist (food science theme) to what would normally have been a lackluster subject. Classes were fun to attend, labs were challenging enough for a first chemistry class. I really enjoyed this class and would highly recommend both section and professor!
She is a really easy and entertaining teacher. Sometimes her lectures get a little confusing but if you go to her office hours she explains everything very well. She also will basically guide you to the right answer on a test. One of the easiest gen eds I've taken.
LOVE HER! So nice and easy and you can tell she cares. take her by all means
She is AMAZING!!! I never took chemistry before and didn't have a hard time in this class. Go to class, ask questions, go to her office hours and study the power points! Take advantage of everything because she's willing to help you out and the class is actually very fun and interesting! I loved her passion for teaching and helping students.
She is a great teacher and made the class and lab very interesting. i personally took this class over the summer and it was so easy. She makes the class fun and really grabs your attention. She's really good about answering questions and clarifying and she even goes over any test questions right before the test so everyone is ready. Take her!!!
Professor Swanson was great and understood the stress of Summer classes. She lowered the workload and had weekly quizzes. I hate chemistry but she made it fun and I wanted to go to class and lab.
Great teacher that is there to help you when you need it. Just go to class to get the in class points and they will save your grade. You are able to have a cheat sheet on the tests. Just write down everything that you dont know and you will pass the class.
Professor Swanson is SO helpful. Though I am usually one who understands things easier, I see her helping students all the time. She is really nice and does in class experiments to show to the class, so try to sit in front if you want to see.
Swanson is great professor. Though it's a typical lecture class that can get boring, she teaches very clearly and well. She is very sweet and is willing to reach out.
She's such a nice person and always willing to help but he lectures never go with the quizzes or exams, u can get really lost and confused during lectures. She talks to us like if we perfectly know chem. Would recommend her but she's really nice.
Shes really Passionate about what she does and is totally willing to help if you talk to her. Shes really nice and pretty funny. Everything is online and the class is pretty easy as long as you study the notes. Don't buy the book, you wont use it.
Swanson is so sweet! I loved her! Take her for chem 102. There are 4 exams throughout the semester, each 100 points. There are weekly quizzes online which only help your grade because the lowest ones are dropped at the end of the semester and you get 3 attempts, and the highest attempt goes in the book. Really easy class if you attend the lectures.
She's a great teacher, but as most classes go this class gets much tougher as the semester goes along and the lectures are not long enough to teach everything she needs to. Tries to keep lectures interesting with videos and games. Very tough class but if you plan on taking this class she would be a great teach.
Swanson made chemistry fun and was very good about teaching the material. She had a clear grading criteria and was very easy. I would reccomend her if you take chemistry.
Very hard exams, pay attention
She was a good teacher, sometimes she would go over things very briefly and it would get confusing, no homework just quizzes online that are super easy. Lets you have a cheat sheet for all of the tests. No final, just another test instead.
Very nice; but as a professor she lacks. She teaches the material as if every student is a chemist and her first two exams didn't even line up with the materials we learned. Definitely needs to work on her clarity of the content.
The exams are really hard so make sure you pay attention. To do decent in this class I had to go to her for help and to tutoring. But she was actually very helpful when I went in and very nice. If you put in the effort it is possible to do good, you'll just have to want it and work for it. Don't buy the textbook waste of money, never used it once.
Swanson is very likable and passionate about chemistry. She lacks in the lecture hall setting by going too fast on hard content. She makes up for it by her tutor sessions before the test. My test grades went from C to A by going to these--she's incredibly helpful, wants you to succeed, and tries her best to engage you. Overall, pretty decent class.
Honestly she is the best. Swanson wants to help everyone do extremely well. She is a very sweet lady. She lets you use a note card on every test, but sometimes she lets you use a whole sheet of paper. If I could take another class with her being my professor I would!
Show up and pay attention to classes and you'll do fine. The subject of chemistry is not easy for me in general but her teaching style helped me pull a solid grade.
Pretty easy class, lectures aren't mandatory but helpful. If you don't go, can easily read the material in the book and do fine on the test.
Don't buy the text unless you're very dedicated to studying. She lets you bring notecards to the tests with stuff written on it (I wrote the whole study guide every time) which really helps. Relatively easy online assignments. You get multiple drops of lowest scores. I barely showed up or tried in her class and got a high B.
I took Ms. Swanson for CHE 102 over the summer. I had a horrible time with Chemistry in high school and was very nervous when I walked into her class. From the very first day until the day I finished up my last exam, I was able to participate and feel comfortable with her teaching and the material. She is by far one of my favorites here at ISU.
I'm currently taking this class and I absolutely love Ms. Swanson. As of right now, she's my favorite professor here at ISU. I always sit in the front, which is very helpful - she likes to see that you are trying to learn. The material isn't too bad, but she will help you in anyway she can. She's super smart, pretty, and understanding. I recommend!
Chem was my worst subject in high school and I hadn't taken it in four years so I was a little nervous. Mrs. Swanson made the material easy to understand and I did better than I expected. Make sure to check on online quizzes/assignments regularly. Overall, she's a great professor.
Very nice and pretty. She knows her stuff.
She is the nicest teacher, maybe even person, I have ever met. Material is very simple and basic. The tests are also very easy. Labs are annoying but are also easy. This class was half the difficulty of my sophomore high school chem class.
She lets you have a full page of notes on the test and gives you a study guide beforehand. There are lecture quizes almost every week. You don't always cover the material in class, but it isn't too difficult to figure out. You can tell shes really wants her students to learn so if you have a question, don't hesitate to ask her.
Very good teacher. Swanson is the best option when it comes to chemistry. Make sure you keep up with the online quizzes and you should get an easy A.
Beautiful lady. She's also very easy going, her lectures are usually paired with some chemistry experiment which can be fun and interesting to watch. You might feel like you don't know anything but the tests are easy if you just study and do the online quizzes. She's nice, caring, and gives extra credit points on some days just for showing up.
A typical Chemistry class. I highly recommend Prof. Swanson! Chem is super boring, but she makes it not too bad! She is very helpful to each and every one of her students and you don't have to buy a book.
Professor Swanson is perfect if you're like me and you struggled with Chemistry in high school. The material isn't too difficult to grasp and she provides very helpful examples during lectures. If you do the online quizzes and study for the exams, you should be happy with the grade you receive.
Had her for 102 and I loved it. Make sure to stay on top of all the quizzes and lectures but attendance isn't mandatory because she puts all the slides on reggie. She also drops your lowest 2 quizzes!
Great professor! She is so sweet and really knows what she is talking about. She cares a lot about the students and wants everyone to do well. There are weekly quizzes and 4 tests. The last test is the final and is just like all the other tests. She also lets you use a cheat sheet for each test. Attendance is not mandatory but you should still go.
If you miss one lab, your grade will drop 10%. GO TO EVERY LAB. She's sweet and caring, very helpful! Just DO THE WORK.
If you show up to the labs and at least sort of try then you will get 100% on all of them. Not too hard of a class but it takes some work to do well.
Easiest class I have ever taken. I started the class 3 weeks late, barely have came to class since and I have a 95%. She lets you use a cheat sheet for every test, copy the study guide on your cheat sheet and you are set. As long as you have an ounce of common sense, you WILL get an A.
Amazing and one of the nicest professors. Really interested in the subject and keeps her students engaged
Professor Swanson is my favorite professor from ISU, and you can tell she truly loves her job. Attendance is not mandatory, and she puts all of the powerpoints online if you miss a day. There are a lot of online quizzes, but they're not very hard if you pay attention. Also, there are 4 exams and you get to have a cheat sheet for each one.
Elisha is the best! She made chemistry so easy! I was honestly dreading the class, but she made it fun. She puts all the information online, and even does lab reports online too. She lets you use cheat sheets on all of the test, and there is no real final. Take this class!
Elisha is a good teacher and the best option for chem. She doesn't make you buy the book because she puts the resources online. She also puts all notes online and attendance isn't mandatory, so you're fine if you miss class occasionally.
great teacher, show up to class and pay attention and you'll do fine. offers a lot of extra credit, online untimed quizzes (drops lowest 2 grades), pre lab quizzes (drops lowest one), 4 exams (final isn't cumulative), you can use a periodic table for each exam and you can write on the back. doesn't round grades but with ec you shouldn't need it!
There is no textbook for this class, she posts her lecture notes on ReggieNet, plus she lets you use the back of your periodic table for notes on the exams! She is the best prof I've had. There are online quizzes but she drops the lowest 2 scores and offers an exam makeup date for if you have an excused absence the day of an exam. Labs are easy too
The nicest lady I have ever met
Shes a very nice person but her lectures arent very exciting (that could just be that Im a history major). The labs for this class are super easy, but barely relate to the lecture.
She is the best. Chemistry was very hard for me in high school but I received an A in this class. Definitely go to lecture and lab, pay attention and you will be fine. Plus she lets you use notes on tests and always wiling to help. She also holds review sessions before each test which are very helpful.
She is a great lab professor. Willing to help with all questions. Easy A if you take the time to do the work fully and in detail. Almost all labs got out an hour early.
I love Elisha! She's sweet, I ended with an 88%, I found it pretty easy because I like chem, but it shouldn't be difficult for anyone. The labs are easy too, easier than Zona's class, definitely take.
I loved her so much! I was coming into chemistry really nervous, but she made it great! She offers so much extra credit! She also basically gives the test word by word on a study guide, and she also lets you write down notes from your guide on the back of your periodic table. Also, labs are just for attendance! You can miss 1, and still be okay!
loved her.
Proffesor Swanson is such a nice lady! You can earn up to 15 points of extra credit for pretty much doing nothing. Tests aren't that hard but if for some reason you don't do very well on the tests, there are online quizzes which are super easy and each time you attend the lab you receive 50 points and there are 6 labs.
I may be biased because I am terrible at chem. But Swanson is a great professor. She makes herself available before and after class, and offers lots of opportunities to bring your grade up. Attendance is not mandatory; she uploads slides online. But if you suck at chem like me, you should definitely go to class. I messed up there
She goes super fast on lectures and sometimes you can't really catch on to what she's talking about. She uploads the slides on ReggieNet and I had to go back and look at them after almost every class. She's super kind, and offers lot of help but the assignments took a long time and the quizzes due every Monday were a bit time consuming.
One of my favorite professors at ISU. I don't even like chemistry and she was able to make it very interesting for me. She is very caring and sweet and I definitely would recommend this as a gen ed for anyone considering it!
a great professor. She is respected and very approachable if you have any sort of question. Although lecture isnt mandatory, it is important to go. Some things were hard to understand so you may have to learn some on your own. she gave extra credit throughout the semester so it evened it out bc tests were hard. wasnt a bad class at all!
Awesome professor! Really cares and wants her students to do well in her course. One of the best professors I've had. Definitely, recommend taking a course taught by professor Swanson.
The class gets challenging toward the end but prof. Swanson is great and definitely cares for her students! The tests are challenging but you get to use your own periodic table- so color code or make it easy to use! If you go through the review guide and study it you should do well on the tests. Lab is pretty easy if you do the pre-lab.
She was one of the best professors I've had at ISU. She is very genuine, caring, and passionate about what she does. She makes sure everyone understands before she moves on and is more than willing to help those who don't understand. There are lots of points possible, don't miss out on the easy ones because then you'll be scrambling at the end!
Bigger class like all the Chem classes but I enjoyed it. She understands not a lot of people actually care about Chemistry and are just there because its required. Best part is that she posts study guides and other material online which is near identical to the test and you can copy the whole thing on the back of your periodic table.
Swanson is an amazing teacher. I don't really favor chemistry, but she made the class fun with lots of demonstrations. There is a lot of opportunities for extra and they're EASY. Most of the " challenging" extra credit is on every exam. The only thing to be on top of is turning things in on time and REMEMBERING when they are due !!!
Dr. Swanson's class was pretty easy as someone who doesn't really understand chemistry. There are a lot of weekly quizzes but as long as you do them and the lab quizzes you will be fine in this class. The tests are really easy.
She is a queen. An ACTUAL queen. I hated chem in high school and it was my favorite course this year. Swanson > Zona The final isn't cumulative and if you attend all lectures and go to all labs you will get an A. Rely on the study guides. If you study all of it or write it on the back of the periodic table then the tests are easy!
Loved Dr. Swanson. She genuinely cares about her students. She holds review sessions the day before the exam from 6pm-7 every time. If you skip class, it's really easy to get confused. Pay attention, ask questions, do the homework, study. You gotta work for it but getting an A is definitely possible. I would take a class with her again in a second!
One of the best professors ever. Literally so nice and she tries to make lectures fun or at least somewhat entertaining. Has exam review days. Offers extra credit. Does have homework and quizzes the homework was sometimes difficult, sometimes was really easy, start on stuff early so then you can ask for help. She is very organized. 10/10 recommend
Professor Swanson is really cool. You can tell she cares about her job and the students in her class. For each exam, we were given the back of the periodic table to write down anything on the study guide that we needed. I had an A the entire semester but due to missing 2 labs, I got a B.
I had her as my lab professor for che140 and she's absolutely amazing. Always helpful in class; explains things clearly. She's super respectful and really cares about her students. She saw me struggling for a while and asked me to come to office hours and helped. Changed my major from bio to chem because she just made me love chemistry so much.
Used a lot of good examples to explain concepts. The back-of-the-periodic-table cheatsheet was a gamechanger. Doesn't require a textbook or a clicker which saved my life. No attendance, but class really helps. Even though I can never understand chem no matter how hard a professor tries, she's the best natural science gen ed option out there.
Elisha is a great professor! Super understanding, kind, and is always accessible whenever you're lost. There are 15 quizzes (super short) , 4 exploratory exercises, 6 lab procedures, 6 pre-lab quizzes (really easy), and 1 final exam. She also has a good drop policy and gives random extra credit. As long as you do your work it should be an easy A!
Professor Swanson was easy to reach, she always answered emails quickly. You can tell she really loves her job. The course itself was not difficult but I noticed that the course didnt explain concepts very well, it was just kind of like, this is this and thats that with not a lot of application. Labs were a different monster, not her fault tho.
I took CHE102 online in Fall 2020 and honestly don't really have anything specific to say about Prof. Swanson. She was very passionate about chemistry but as a fine arts major I wasn't that engaged with the content. She's very sweet and sometimes goes through the content a little quickly, but overall nothing really struck me as negative.
The class was laid out very well. She had the same type of assignments due each week at the same time and was very consistent. The class is videos, powerpoints, and notes. There are quizzes each week and lab assignments each week. Every unit there is a unit plan assignment as well. Overall pretty easy class but some topics are confusing.
love her so much. easy class even if you know nothing about chemistry. no tests, just weekly lecture quizzes and pre-lab/labs. gives you more than enough resources to learn more if you want but you can easily find just what you need to know for the quizzes
There were a lot of assignments in the class but she really made the content of the class be directly in what she would test and quiz on. Not bad! She was nice.
Dr. Swanson was amazing! I took her during Covid and it was asynchronous. Easy quizzes (3 attempts), labs were simple, occasional extra credit and easy final. She answers emails frequently and makes the class interesting! Would absolutely recommend her, even if you dont know anything about chemistry!
She was a cool and most of the class was easy. She did go through some things kinda fast but she put resources online for student that don't get it.
She was very nice and she really does care about her students and the subject that she is teaching. I would recommend her for lecture as she explains everything clearly and makes sure to let you know what you need to know.
Professor Swanson was amazing!!! Would take her again if I could. She is so kind and truly enjoys teaching! Her class is weekly quizzes that you have 3 chances to take each week. The midterm and final are exactly like the study guides she provides. She also has amazing style. Could rave about her forever
Professor Swanson was genuinely the nicest, smartest, and coolest professor I have had so far. The lectures are engaging and she makes everything easy to understand. She loves to do fun experiments with the class, gives GREAT study guides, and has tons of extra credit opportunities. If you can take CHE102 with anyone, TAKE HER CLASS!!
GOAT chem prof. Labs every other week and they're easy. Quiz over the weeks lectures every week and you have 2 attempts. No homework. 2 tests and as long as you go over the study guide easy A. She is just super sweet and you can tell she cares about her student. Don't take chem without her.
As someone who is not a fan of chem or biology and all that, I am happy to say that this class was a breeze. I was so worried this class would suck and be hard but thank god it wasn't! Swanson is super sweet and makes the material easy to learn. All she grades is labs (easy af) and lecture quizzes (easy af) and exams. I highly recommend taking her
Chem was super hard for me, but I honestly didn't put much effort into it. Swanson gives you a periodic table on which you can write anything you want, front to back, to use on the exam, so get those study guide answers and WRITE THEM ON THAT PERIODIC TABLE!
Great teacher, easy class, but the content is just not interesting to me. If you have a fascination with chemistry, she will be the most ideal fit for you. If my only enjoyment of chemistry wasn't just Breaking Bad I would have a great time in this class
Dr. Swanson was really great at being engaging in lectures and making chemistry understandable for non-chem people. Loved the class and the labs were really easy.
I have Swanson for TCH 257 not CHEM but that was not an option. Elisha Swanson is the best of the best!!! She was so thorough in her expectations, cared about the well-being of her students, and was overall GREAT! I do not have enough nice things to say.
Only had 1 quiz a week, lab every other week and 2 tests all semester
Pr Swanson is a great instructor, she makes it simple for students to understand. She gives out weekly quizzes that are easy points, the labs for this class are also pretty simple. If you don't understand the material, just attend her office hours and she'll be very helpful in answer any questions. Overall a caring and understanding teacher!
Good professor, easy A, only two exams, she allows a cheat sheet for exams. weekly quizzes but basically just show up to lectures and it should be easy.
Elisha Swanson is the bomb dot com! She makes an effort to get to every student's questions and really cares about how her students are doing in the class. The content is definitely hard but she makes it manageable and fun. You can tell how much she loves what she does.
As long as you go to the labs do well and get good grades on the weekly lecture quizzes you'll have no problem passing. I failed both mid and final exam and did well in the rest and ended in a B lol.
elisha truly enjoys what she does and you can definitely tell. easy online weekly quizzes that you get 2 attempts for, 2 (just midterm and final) exams that you can use a cheat sheet for, and labs that you will get a good grade on as long as you try. shes also very accessible and you can even request to zoom w/her if you cant make office hours.
Love Professor Swanson! I am NOT a science/math person but she made it so easy to understand. Super kind and approachable as well. You also get an entire page cheat sheet on each exam (comes on the back of a periodic table). If you can get her class for one of your science gen eds, I highly highly recommend taking it. No textbook, go to class.
Great Prof, puts efforts into lectures
Pretty easy class, she's really thorough with her explanations. I didn't go to her class much but the things that hold up your grade is your lab. the weekly lecture quizzes are a little tedious and if you forget to do them, it tanks your grade. Just keep up with work and you'll be fine. Also, she lets you use a cheat sheet for exams.
not good at chem but she was great
Elisha is very good at watch she teaches. There are weekly quizzes based off the lectures and powerpoint. There are two tests one being the midterm and the other being the final. She provides kahoots and study guides to prepares as well. She allows a one page cheat sheets for each exam. Content is tough but she does a good job of teaching content.
This professor doess not care about her students, I had a sickness and had a major death happen and she did not care and still had me come in even though I was not in the mindset or health to do so. Would not reccomend taking unless you are promised a smooth sailing semester with no personal problems.
Very quick lectures, minimal time to work out problems on your own, rushes through content that is on tests/quizzes but spends lots of time on chem content that students would be interested in. Very nice person, but felt that her exams didn't reflect what was taught in class. I learned best in labs, and got my grade up through the labs alone.
Try to get into Elisha's class for chem! She is very nice and knows her stuff. This class was really hard for me, but it was definitely more so the content than the professor. Be prepared to study for the exams in addition to creating a good cheat sheet. Labs are hard, I hated my TAs but time management matters more than the concepts of the labs.
She is passionate about teaching chemistry and acknowledges that most people only took it to fill a gen ed. There are a total of 6 labs (every other week), weekly quizzes, a midterm, and a final exam. Attendance isn't mandatory, but sometimes she gives out extra credit just for you being there. She is happy to help you outside of class.
As a first-time chemistry student, I could not speak more highly of Professor Swanson. She was extremely helpful, very available to help students who were confused and had a great teaching style. She is very passionate about what she does and offers lots of in-class extra credit, and some out of class as well. She puts out guided notes as well!
I didn't pay much attention in this class, to be honest, but Professor Swanson is a very sweet and caring person. Unfortunately, Chemistry is just not for me.
She's very passionate about her profession. Every day she taught with great energy. She always came to class with a smile on her face. The class itself was difficult for me...probably because I rarely went. TAs were often curt but helpful during labs.
We only took 2 tests, a mid term and final. You get little quizzes every week based on the lectures, labs are every two weeks and a great way to boost your grade. I didn't pay much attention in this class, to be honest, chemistry just isn't for me. However it is a very passable class, as long as you pay some sort of attention.
Can tell she cares about what she is teaching. Weekly quizzes that you can retake and worst 2 grades get dropped. Lab is every other week and pretty easy. Posts slides and guided notes on canvas. Gave extra credit twice, but you had to be at the lecture, and it was a surprise. Skipping class once or twice wont set you back too far.
Chemistry is a hard subject but, this class is very passable. There was a midterm and final. A weekly quiz: you're given two tries on it! She also offers a lot of EC if you show up!! Swanson has the cutest outfits, so kind and replies to emails quickly. I would def recommend you take this course with her! Labs are also super easy + every other week
So kind, and helpful. Easy and understandable lectures.
Dr. Swanson is very caring and understanding with her students. Assignments weren't very difficult and labs were done with a partner. She is very kind and helps students after lectures if they have any questions or trouble with the work. As someone who has never really liked science, she made this class very fun and interesting.
Professor Swanson makes this chemistry course very manageable. Weekly quizzes with retakes, easy labs, and opportunities for extra credit help offset the difficulty. unstuckstudy was a game-changer for test prep. Overall, a solid class if you stay engaged.
Professor Swanson is so clearly passionate about her work, that her lectures were incredibly engaging to me, and I've never enjoyed chemistry. Despite me not performing well on exams, the weekly labs and lecture credits helped me maintain the grade that I wanted to achieve. Beyond how amazing her teaching is, she's also very kind and approachable.
A great instructor overall, I just am not a fan of chemistry. She does teach fast so if you don't grasp something quick, you might get left behind and have to catch up. Her test policies are fair, assignments are easy, but I just don't have an easy time grasping chemistry as a whole.
this class was very easy. She drops the lowest quizzes and labs to boost your grade and gives out extra credit. easy labs too
PLEASE TAKE HER. She is an amazing professor and cares about her students. She offered lots of extra credit, and dropped 2 lab grades, 2 quiz grades, and an exam (including the final). I'm not a huge science fan, and she does tend to move fast, but it's not really that bad of a class.
Dr. Swanson is a good professor and its a good class if you are into chemistry. Unfortunetley, I am not proficient with chemistry, and it is VERY fast paced and success depends on understanding the info from previous lectures. You need to go to the lectures and understand the material because it's easy to be left behind. Great with grading!
Professor Swanson is amazing and makes chemistry easy! Her workload consists of weekly quizzes with 2 attempts (2 drop), weekly labs (2 drop), and 3 exams with cheat sheets (1 drop). She provided extra credit a couple days for those that were in class. She also provides so many extra resources to help you succeed. Show up and pay attention!
Professor Swanson is very patient and caring. She wants to make chemistry fun, and she understands that it is a general education. Show up to lectures; they are engaging, and she teaches amazingly. Additionally, resources are made available. Quizzes are online. Tests, labs, and quizzes are all weighted the same. I would take her again!!
Dr. Swanson was so personable and engaging! She taught a class for future science educators and was so helpful! This class had my first teaching clinical experiences in it, and she made it way less nerve-racking! She was organized, and you could tell she always knew what she was talking about. She never wasted our time and made us feel valued.
She is amazing and her outfits are always cute. I don't like or understand chem at all but this class was simply easy. I barely went to lectures and still got a 96 and don't have to take the final. Use EVERY extra credit opportunity. Even lab attendance has 5 ex credit points when you are mandated to be there.
Lightwork, easy class. She's super nice. Attendance not mandatory but do go to the labs. Labs are easy. She actually cares about her students. Outfits and hair were always fire. Bless up.
