Doesn't explain the material or teach you what is required to complete the labs, we were given multiple assignments without being taught the necessary material to complete it. She would correct herself later after we already failed the assignment. DO NOT take this prof.
Professor isn't too bad, but she is obviously new. She gives a lecture on the first day of class for the week, and thats about it. Quizzes on 2nd days of the week. She just recently started to give examples and be more helpful. She does give extra credit opportunities. My class's TA's were super harsh graders. You will have to teach yourself some.
She basically just reads her lectures straight off the powerpoint so you won't learn much from her lectures. Her quizzes are straightforward so it was fairly easy. TA's grades too harshly. Definitely not the best ENGR 102 professor out there.
I did really well in the class, but only because I had prior knowledge of coding. Her lectures are very dry and unhelpful and she seems like she has a hard time understanding some of her own material. Her TA's grade everything and it is clear that she doesn't even make the assignments because she and her TA's struggle to explain the criteria.
I did okay in this class. You can tell she's really trying and cares about her students and their grades. She drops yopur lowest grades at the end which helps ALOT. She gives quiz hints and her quizzes are easy so they help your grade (unlike other prof where your grade tanks after a quiz). She cares about her students and listens to their feedback
She is an alright teacher, but she does care that her students do well. I had no experience coding and don't think I learned anything from her lectures, and often fell asleep. I had to teach my self a lot, shes moderately helpful if u ask questions. The drop grades and easy quizzes save your grade, the TA's were terrible and graded harsh.
I love Dr. Morris! She really does everything in her power to help you get the best grade possible. She has no control over the assignments as they are created by her department head, but she would make edits to the instructions if they didn't make sense; she made on assignment extra credit because it was all calculus and not everyone knew calculus
Dr. Morris lectured from detailed slides, then gave us time to work on our homework. She was always ready to help and answer questions and gave us helpful hints for quizzes. She also gave us opportunities for extra credit on labs frequently and even created a survey to find out how she could improve her teaching. Take her!!!
In my opinion, she's a good teacher. Office hours aren't that open, so try to ask the questions you have in class if you can. Also, first day of class, make sure you ask around who is good with python and who isn't so that you know which team you should be on. My PTs were very helpful and very available, but in case yours aren't, read the Zybook.
Elissa Morris is a great Prof for Engr 102. She is very kind, and wants you to make the best grade possible. I had no experience with coding prior to A&M and while her lectures did not all make complete sense, I managed to really learn the material. Overall she is a great Professor who cares about you and wants you to learn.
102 is not a well designed class (not Dr. Morris's fault), so be prepared to do a lot of work. However, Dr. Morris actually does want you to do well and there's plenty of oppurtunities for it. She cares about class feedback and adjusted to meet our needs. Even if she seems distant, she appreciates geniune effort and cares about how you do.
Dr. Morris is an excellent professor. I had no prior experience entering ENGR 102, but she made the course easier. I enjoyed the weekly quizzes because it gave me an accurate assessment of where I stood each week. Once my Console on my IDE was giving me trouble during a quiz, and I never finished. She let me come in during office hours & retake it.
Morris is the best engineering professor on campus. Period. She is extremely helpful and a wonderful teacher. You need to go to class simply because half the work is group-based, but that's across every section. No, the class isn't easy, but Morris understands how stressful ENGR is and she helps whenever she can. (PS: she curved the class)
Group/Lab work meant that attendance was mandatory, but the class never felt rushed or improvised. Lectures were clear and left plenty of time for examples/questions (and also posted online) and homework was straightforward and could be answered using the explanations given in the presentations.
Professor Morris is a fantastic lecturer. She makes every lecture very interesting and cared about student's ability to learn. She is most defintley a MUST if taking classes at TAMU. I had her for ENGR 102 and 216. Granted 102 was extremley tough, she still made it her goal to ensure every student understood the material.
Lecture portion of this class is kinda scattered, but it's not Dr. Morris' fault, it's the department's. Labs are the majority of your grade for this class, and pray that you get good TA's and lab partners, because they're randomly assigned. First lab over error propagation is difficult, but the rest of the class isn't too bad.
Lab work meant that attendance was mandatory, and there are in calss work where she will give you the answer so its do it you will be ok. The TA on the other hand are bad , they dont know what they are doing when you ask a question most likey you will get " oh I dont know what is going on ".
Dr. Morris is a great professor and gives plenty of extra credit to students who show effort. Lectures are solid and grading was fair.
Dr. Morris is probably the best prof you can have for ENGR 216. She explains everything well in her lectures and also makes jokes to keep you engaged. She gives participation work in class so do NOT skip. She gives a reasonable amount of homework unlike other ENGR 216 profs.
I loved her class! While the topics in her class are difficult at times, she wants you to succeed and gives you the answers to all in class quizzes. She truly wants the best for her students. Her lectures are very well explained and she even uses demos. She makes boring topics exciting, and she is also very good at answering emails.
Prof Morris was a good prof. The class itself is odd, we are taught a new topic every week (very surface level), so we never really learned anything. assignments and labs are pretty easy, just do them and you should do well. Only one test and that is the final at the end!
AMAZING PROFESSOR AND PERSON! She is super nice and made the course a lot easier. Class work was tough but tough in the way that you got a lot out of doing it. Really streamlined the process for us students by making the projects mostly auto-graded and class periods optional. Get her if you can!!
Morris is the best professor that I have had at A&M so far. I truly looked forward to going to class and working on the coding assignments after class. I had little to no coding experience and I did totally fine in the class. Morris makes things light-hearted and easy to understand.
I refuse to take anyone else for PHYS 216 next semester. This was one of my two in-person classes this semester, and I really looked forward to going every week. She is refreshingly chill and entertaining, and she made Python very straightforward.
Dr. Morris had great weekly lectures, as she gave examples and demos of how to implement the new material and never shot down any questions. As long as you keep up with the labs and pay attention in lectures, it is not a lot of work. My class never had any quizzes, and our grades were based almost entirely on labs and tests.
Dr. Morris was an AMAZING choice for ENGR 102. The class is structured around Python and can be quite challenging for non-coders but the way she taught the class and provided demos really made getting an A reachable for anyone. She is super accommodating as well and will provide extensions on projects if needed. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN
Dr. Morris is one of the best 216 profs you can possibly take. She is pretty young and new to teaching but she's super committed to feedback and becoming a better prof. Also, she's super willing to help you during office hours and talk about anything, not just class stuff.
Morris is a good choice for the class. You will be expected to read and complete the Zybooks chapters before lectures and labs will take you longer than you think so start them early! Her lectures are good and her powerpoints are great for studying for the tests. May make you feel like your questions are stupid but overall I had a good experience.
Do whatever you can to take Dr. Morris! She is approachable and lighthearted. She makes class fun and is clear with her expectations. I always knew what was expected of me, and she made it easy to succeed. Dr. Morris dropped grades and was very prompt with emails.
Professor Morris was a good lecturer who was extremely helpful with understanding difficult Python concepts. If you needed help with your assignment, the professor had a system set up to where other students, peer teachers, and the professor could help you. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience.
Dr. Morris is the best Engr 102 teacher by a long shot, no quizzes, extra credit hw, and easier assignments. On the flipside, I feel like due to not having hard assignments or quizzes I was slightly less prepared for the exams, which are standardized, but otherwise she was a great, funny, engaging prof. I would highly recommend
As long as you do the hws, dr. Morris is by far the easiest prof for engr 102. Her lectures were good and unlike other profs, had no quizzes.
Dr. Morris was my favorite prof by far in my first semester. She doesn't give out pointless quizzes every week like other profs but instead releases them just for practice before the exam. She is engaging and very nice to her students. Sign up for her class if you can.
Fantastic professor. Makes lectures very clear and responds well to feedback, even had a mid year anonymous evaluation for the class that she took time to go over. No ridiculous quizzes and had extra credit opportunities. Would highly recommend.
While this was just my Engineering Learning Community & Student Success Seminar, and did not a lot of extremely important information, Dr. Morris still made the class very fun. She is witty, funny, and engaging, and I would highly recommend her for her other, more engineering classes
Solid choice for ENGR 102, the only thing is her in class notes compared to some other profs aren't as helpful. Overall though, if you have a question, she will make sure it gets answered, and she is clear in terms of what is expected for your grade. Attending lectures were mandatory but labs were not (but recommended to work w/your group).
She is super helpful and will work with you to make sure you understand the course material. No quizzes.
ENGR 102H is a python course, which already makes it difficult, but Dr. Morris adds an element of fun to all of her lectures and is very good at following up with her students. She truly cares how you're doing in the class and wants everyone to succeed. The labs can be long and exams can be tough but there is a lot of extra points given
Professor Morris is great. This class is split in half, one half is lecture based and the other is lab based. There is in class work that must be turned in, however you get the answers during lecture. No tests, only a final. Half of your grade is composed of your lab grades however, Morris is not in charge of that. Overall take Morris if you can.
The lab part of 216 is not really managed by the professor, so I'll not discuss that. Prof. Morris was amazing and did not assign the giant amounts of homework many other professors do. She clearly communicated the material and gave us just enough assignments to practice it, with lenient grading. Would highly recommend, particularly for 216.
Really nice prof that gives nice lectures. I'm going to refrain from talking about the actual labs and the final because those are the same no matter who you have. Classes were organized and really made sure we left knowing the new material. Encourages outside of class engagement and gave ample time for assignments. Really good and nice prof :)
Lab portion is out of her control. Extremely nice, funny, and caring professor. Knows lots about industry so she gives many examples of how concepts being learned are applicable to real life. Makes getting the grade fairly straightforward. She fosters such a good learning atmosphere, that the class will feel like a blow off. Take her.
Her final exam is a little daunting, but otherwise, a good enough class to get out of the way before you reach your major specific classes. Very easy HW and in-class quizzes. Very well respected and knowledged. Excellent professor!
While everyone might panic about the final exam, you don't need to do terribly well to still make an A or B in the class. Dr. Morris made lectures fun and she has a great sense of humor. While the labs may not seem extremely engaging, they still provide a nice introduction to future projects.
Dr. Morris is literally the nicest person on the planet. I would take her class 1000000000 times.
She is very kind and she teaches well. But, the midterm and final worth a lot and it's kind of hard. So we aware of that. But I would take her again
I only have her for CLEN 181 but she does taking care of her student so I recommend you to take her if you can.
10/10 prof
Come in to the course with knowledge in Python and you will be set. Otherwise, it is a difficult class and the 2 exams are not lenient in the slightest. The material is understandable, but take the time outside of the course to practice and complete labs. A sort of weed out class if you will when it comes to Freshman Engineering courses.
Would 100% recommend her to everybody! Her lectures are amazing as she's very energetic and cares about the content, but more than that, she cares about her students. Her tests are a little hard, but she offers an ample amount of extra credit toward the end of the semester. Keep track of the zyBooks labs and assignments, and you'll have an easy A.
She is absolutely phenomenal. She is the professor you wish you had.
I love Dr. Morris. I had her for 102, and I have her now for 216; she is very clear with the assignments, gives review sheets has clear date and has very easy quizzes (not weekly). I like her lecturing style, and this class was definitely challenging as the HW took several hours every week, so be prepared to stress and pull your hair out over that.
Literally the easiest class ever under Morris. Take her over any other ENGR 216 prof if you want 30 mins of homework per week, MAX.
I had Dr. Morris for ENGR 102 and she was a great professor. She made her lectures engaging and funny, and made sure everyone got the help they needed, staying after class until they did. Overall, she's a really cool professor that made this difficult class not only manageable but fun.
Ms. Morris is an amazing professor, super knowledgeable, and will be a great help to anyone new to coding. The honors section was small and I was lucky that I got a good group, so most of the homework was a breeze.
Assigned homework that was pretty reasonable and was very funny in class. Made 216 bearable compared to other teachers and was helpful when preparing for the final.
I feel like more could have been done for students. For one, the lectures are completely ineffective as each week a new topic is "covered" in ~30-40 mins. This is by no means enough time for students to learn. In addition, she frequently went off topic and never recorded her lectures or even posted completed notes and always made up excuses for it.
Dr. Morris is a good professor, however some of her explanations can be counterintuitive and watching a youtube video will clear things up. Although not her fault the final exam is god awful and worth 20% of your grade. The rest of the material is very easy to get 100 on.
Super enthusiastic and funny professor, she does a good job of teaching coding in a way people with no prior experience can understand. Lecture is always fun and lab time typically involves coding with an assigned group.
The lecture for this class was pretty good but the lab was terrible. STUDY for the final (it's not as hard as everyone says) and make sure you follow guidelines and don't copy labs from anyone.
Morris does an excellent job with this class. Unfortunately, most of it is standard curriculum, so you're gonna deal with the same course content no matter the professor. Be careful on the exams, because their difficulty level is much greater than the in-class quizzes. If you want an A, do what you can to get near perfect scores on everything else.
Good teacher. Solid. Engaging lectures.
She kept the class fun and engaging. She would go out of her way to help students when asked. For the quizzes, only study lecture notes, not the textbook.
Amazing professor! I took Dr. Morris' class for Engineering 102 and she made it super easy to learn and understand Python as a first-time coder. She is very down-to-earth, easy to talk to, grades fair, and an energetic lecturer who consistently engages with her students. She makes a noticeable effort to get to know her students.
Professor Morris was an absolute blessing. She was very eager to make sure we understood what we were learning and was also just an awesome person to talk with and hang around in general. Whenever anyone had a question, she would take time to answer and make sure we understood, and she made sure lectures were interactive and interesting.
Professor Morris was great for 216, she teaches well and makes sure you understand the material. She tends to not do as much examples/hw as the other profs so if you like that then I highly recommend. Only complaint is that because of that I sometimes felt underprepared. Nevertheless she was great and I would love to take her again.
Professor Morris is an amazing lecturer and super funny! My one issue with the class was that the final was very hard and could make or break your grade by an entire letter very easily.
I'm not sure why the reviews here are so good? The class is easy as long as you show up and do the homework, but you cannot rely on the lectures and homework she gives to do well on the final. Morris just skims the material during lectures instead of teaching it. I would suggest choosing another professor or be prepared for a lot of self-study.
Dr. Morris cares for her students' success and is very understanding. This professor definitely has the least amount of homework compared to the other profs, but prepares you for the final just as well as the others.
Engineering 216 itself is a terrible class, in which its entire purpose is to knock students down one or two letter grades. However, Dr. Morris made the class bearable and explained topics clearly with limited time we had during the semester. Essentially, if you do the work, you are guaranteed an A if you can manage a 60 on the final exam.
Morris is one of the worst lecturers I've ever had. She always skimmed through the slides and never went through enough problems for her students to be able to fully grasp topics. I didn't find her to be someone approachable and felt like she often talked down to her students.
Dr. Morris is amazing. Im not too fond of the class, but Dr. Morris makes it so that everything (except the final and labs) is ez pz. Homeworks are easy and take 30 mins MAX. Don't worry about being underprepared for the final bc of the easy hws bc the final isnt too different from them (and is also pretty easy imo). Take Dr. Morris!!
Her lecture is fast-paced, but she's a funny and energetic lecturer. She may not have time to go thorough in her slides, but it's good when you are self-studying. Her hw are somewhat complex, but they help you understand the topic. 216 itself is a shit class that throws you difficult problems before you are ready, but Dr. Morris makes it tolerable.
Dr. Morris was super great for 102! Very understanding and caring, and made the class much less daunting than other professors. Would highly recommend her for 102, makes the class so much easier, and her PT's were also great!
LOVE her energy during lectures. HW is light. Lab is annoying but that's not on her. DON'T sleep on the final exam and do the reviews they provide and you'll be fine. Attendance isn't technically required but you're better off going or else the classwork won't make sense.
Amazing professor even though my grade wasn't great. Would take it again. Take this for ENGR 102 if you want a great experience at learning Python.
Phenomenal professor who actively fights for her students' success. The only components of her class that she does not give extra credit or drop grades on are the exams (the department does not allow it). Other than that, she will do everything she can to keep your grades up so long as you put a reasonable amount of effort in. Strongly recommend.
I love Dr. Morris! She's the best and I highly recommend taking her for 102!
Great and fun professor. I enjoyed the class but it is tough, so you can't slack off. You have a group coding assignment with every unit, so having good members is crucial. No final, just a large coding assignment. The tests are very hard, but that is a department thing. I highly recommend using the SI sessions as well as ZACH 420 for coding help.
Lectures were engaging and upbeat, she was very willing to answer questions related to course/test material. Most of this course is not that reliant on the professor, but rather how you work with your lab partners and how much time you spend coding outside of class, but having Morris definitely helps!
She worked with me like no Professor ever has. I was blown away. I had a couple relatives die, got sick twice, worked a job, and I struggled with python. Her understanding and flexibility has genuinely overflowed me with gratitude. I am a big fan of Professor Morris.
I PT'ed for her (basically a TA), so she was't my prof BUT she's amazing. Very energetic & great teacher. She makes sure you get all the help you need & and very chill in terms of grading & deadlines. She gave GROUP quizzes MULTIPLE TIMES (one of which we were instructed to just give everyone a 100). BUT: pls don't cheat, we know when you do.
Literally one of the best teachers I have ever had. Any questions on hw or anything I asked in office hours and she was so kind and gave good advice. Class is graded on hw, in class work, labs, and exams. She provides a lot of review material. Overall great teacher love her
PHYS 216 in general is not very fun, and the content will come more naturally to some. Morris is an excellent teacher, very kind and caring. She definitely made me more excited to show up to class, and I actually found myself laughing sometimes. If you take Morris, you are in very good hands.
Sometimes I felt like Professor Morris talks in a somewhat condescending tone, not "you are just a freshman who is clueless >:( " but rather "you are just a freshman who is clueless :)" if you know what I mean. Half the time I felt like lecture was an episode of dora the explorer but nonetheless a great prof. HER HOMEWORKS ARE REALLY EASY
Overrated professor. Tests are built to confuse you rather than test knowledge. Mocked students and was inaccessible outside of class
216 before the midterm isn't too bad. It just goes downhill from there. The HW's are easy but the class requires a lot of studying on your own. Professor Morris is quite energetic and can sometimes seem condescending but thats just how she talks and it didn't really bother me. The final does suck a lot and we had a 0.5 round up on the class grade.
* There are group projects in relation to the lab which will be half of your grade.* The final, as is often discussed, is very difficult and I don't think I could have gotten an A or B on it unless I were to study a crazy amount for a 2 credit hour course. Thankfully you can get an A with a 60 something on the final. HW is easy, labs are easy.
Labs are the same for everyone, but the final is worth a big chunk of your grade (and it is pretty hard), so make sure you do good on the classwork and homework which are pretty easy. Nice professor, but lowkey condescending at times.
I enjoyed her so much in 102 that I took her again for 216. Engaging lectures, lenient and helping. She records lectures and gives 2 free late passes for HW. The class itself sucks, but its not her fault. Labs are tedious, and the exam was very difficult and knocked me down a whole letter grade even after studying hard. Not much curve to help.
Dr. Morris does a great job teaching 216, which is a class I was not fond of at all & frankly wished did not exist due to the sole purpose of the labs being a real pain. But this aside, Morris is a great lecturer, & tries making lectures entertaining & engaging. Also her HW's are mostly super easy & you should have an A all year until the final.
Dr Morris was an incredible professor. I had her lecture period on a Friday afternoon which wasn't always the most fun to get up and go to but her lectures were super engaging and she was genuinely just a super charismatic and fun person. Would def take her again.
Doctor Morris is an overall great professor. She always tried to make lectures engaging and did what she could with the 50 minutes. ENGR 216 sucks as a class but she made it work. I got a B but it was definitely my fault for fumbling the final. Definitely engage in her lectures and you'll have a good time. Overall great professor.
My brother died in a car crash, and my mother left me at the age of two and my father left to fly to Mexico with his secretary. Anyways great teacher, lovely course good for people who need a challenge. 10/10 would take the course agian.
i struggled a lot in this class but to no fault of dr morris. she is super encouraging and wants everyone to succeed. class is super confusing if you've never coded before but she makes it bearable
I absolutely hate coding but Dr. Morris made it manageable and easy for me to understand. Her lectures were engaging and it's obvious she wants her students succeed. She puts you in a group for the whole year and even has group quizzes. The exams are hard but there is no final. If you try you WILL pass. Best prof for ENGR 102 for sure.
Dr. Morris is great. She lectures and answers questions very well. The class itself is hard though. Avoid AI because it will end up screwing you over in the end. There is no final so that's a plus
She was a great professor who actually cared about her students. Her lectures were fun and entertaining and the homework/projects were not too bad. Overall great class and teacher.
Very respectful and caring instructor, her emails and lectures are always so funny and make you look forward to attending class. The course itself is moderately hard, the labs and quizzes are pretty straightforward but the exams can be quite finnicky at times. Otherwise, enjoyable class and wonderful professor.
Professor Morris was helpful and connected with her students as well as anyone could with ~100 class. The class is split into teams of four that stay the same throughout the year. It is a kind of roll of the dice whether your team ends up being good. Overall a great professor which I have no complaints about
Prof Morris was an amazing professor. She doesn't curve tests and quizzes, and like anything with Python, we were tested on challenging stuff. However she does provide a lot of chances for bonus points! Attendance wasn't mandatory, but if you want to survive this class, show up and PAY ATTENTION. Would definitely take her class again though.
Prof Morris is an amazing person that made learning Python a breeze. Although she does not offer any extra credit, she is very lenient and ended up dropping some quizzes and extending assignment's deadlines. I had no prior experience with coding and had no problems with this course, but that could in part be because I was blessed with a good team.
Had never coded before but she made it pretty easy to understand and enjoyable. Only complaint is that the exams were very difficult for me as someone with 0 prior experience, but the labs were interesting to do. She is also very funny.
Amazing Professor! Made sure to remember everyone's names and always made the lectures super enjoyable. Prior knowledge is lowkey required, but if you don't know anything beforehand, you should be able to pass the class.
Great professor! She was really enthusiastic about teaching. Exams are all standardized so she doesn't make them. Labs were tedious and long at times but were useful in learning. She read of the slides mostly and did live demos in-class. The slides were pretty basic though. Exams were harder than quizzes and seocnd exam was easier than the first.
