A woman very into her work. Had her for American Literature and she knows her stuff. Is very into the the stories she is presenting for study.
You'll learn allot from her, You just have to know that she's a left wing Democrat. She'll grade you with bias, despite that, she is wonderful.
Her class is run as a reading workshop. You do the reading and talk about it the next class. Stay up to date on your journals, that is she makes you read something and then write a summary, not an opinion. Tough grader! and be careful with your opinion in class, shes not as open minded as she seems

Oh shes soo nice. Only thing though, if u don't do her work, or skip classes alot, or use the bathroom excessively then u'll lose credits off ur attendance. Just work with her, thats all!
Prof. Abale is kind of eccentric, but very clear and pretty demanding. Keep up with the reading, and participate in the discussion and you'll do fine. Tests are a bit hard but she's not that hard a grader as far as papers are concerned. Overall, I think she's really a very nice woman, just expects you to do the work.
She is very professional, tests are hard and reading can be very heavy. If you have any troubles she will help. Keep up with reading!

kinda strict. cuts people off when they talk, and is a bit of a hard grader.
the actually class part of this is fun discussion and quite easy. it's just the hard writing assignments with harshharsh grading that make this class bad.
This lady has issues. How do you give someone 1/2 or 1/4 of an absence for failing a reading quiz. What's half an absence? Besides she has no life, she tells stories that have nothing to do with the class and nobody caressss!!!!!!
very helpful and clear. interesting topics but there is work involved. you dont just watch movies, you watch them and then you have to read too. dont take this class if youre lazy. great class overall.
She is a very Nice teacher.Does not tolerate cutting classes and late work. Like many teachers, show her you care and she will give you a good grade. Work involved- Journal entries, and Essays,not final!
Yeah, attendance = key. If you show the slightest bit of interest, she will adore you for it. If you do the readings and pay attention in class, you don't even have to study. Her tests are lit. responses, she's a fair grader. Don't expect to sit in the back of the class and sleep, she'll call you out. I still read some of these stories taught.
I had this Prof for Eng 24 at KCC in 2006. She's strict, but a very nice person. She assigns a lot and expects it be done on time. Now being in a 4 yr school I feel like I'm ahead of everyone because of all the writing we did in her class.
Strict about attendance and coming prepared, but she allows a lot of absences (6) and she's an easy grader. She'll tell you what she wants in an essay. If you come to class, do your work, are respectful, and participate even the tiniest bit you will do fine. However, she has no patience for slacker and disrespectful students, welcome to college.

A little strict. But, allows five absences. Doesn't tolerate slacking, but is a good teacher. If you make an effort and come to class, you'll do fine!

She is one of the worst teachers I have ever taken at NCC! She gives tons of work that isn't necessary. 2 exams,4 response papers (analysis), and one final paper, and reading every night. She isn't helpful and doesn't explain what she is looking for. She is so awkward and boring.
she gives reading assignments for every class. she expects you to be prepared to discuss them too. WELCOME TO COLLEGE! participation is mediatory for a decent grade. ask many questions before and after papers are due, as she can be unclear when it comes to giving instructions. overall, nice person and good educator. but do NOT text in class..!
DO NOT TAKE !!!! Worst teacher ever if you're concerned about your GPA. Extremely arrogant, rude and not helpful at all. She loves to tell students how vague their writing is but nothing is more vague and generic than her teaching. Stifles creativity, gives low grades and is clearly just there to collect a paycheck.
By far the strangest professor ever. Definitely does not grade fair, but the class is not all that difficult. you have a good chance at getting at a B on the essays if you bring in a draft, she hardly gives out A's.
She is literally the worst english teacher i have ever had. i took 001 last semester and my teacher said she didn't even know why i was in remedial because my writingwas good enough for 101. going into this class made me have to relearn how to write an essay. she is a horrible teacher. DO NOT TAKE HER.
She's a little odd but very nice. I took her class online and the work load was ridiculous and a little confusing. A lot went over my head but hey, I'm not an English major. I say give her a chance. If you show interest and do some extra research (wiki) she will love you forever.
I loved her. I missed the final because my alarm clock did not go off and she took my folder of essays to the dean and made sure i passed. If you work hard she will fight for you to pass. TAKE HER CLASS
I went into her course expecting to pass, not knowing what i was getting myself into. Generally, you cant get a clear understanding of what she wants on her essay to begin with. shes always commenting on how Vague it is and gives tons of unnecessary work. by far the worst professor for the English department in NCC. Choose otherwise!!!!
DON'T. JUST DONT. WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!!! I was in complete awe with her ruddiness towards students. She would always write "too vague" or completely unnecessary things on my papers and didn't really care to explain what I needed to change. She lowered my confidence completely. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!

Very rude when asking for assistance on how to upload a paper off blackboard. Very very strong attitude. Gives a lot of homework, must read everything that she gives out. Tough grader especially when given topics of our opinion on the films. Not an easy class definitely need to work for it.
Contrary to the above reviews, Ms. Abel I learned a lot from and respect her. Yes she was demanding as well as the work in her Film & Lit course, but her reviews in teaching me how to critique film & lit. was amazing. While taking the course, it was time consuming but in the end, my writing and thinking skills improved greatly & worth the effort.
I'm in graduate school and took Professor Abele's class to fill a requirement in the cheapest way. I've had a lot of teachers and professors and she is easily the nastiest one I've had. Her comments are condescending. Her interactions are condescending. I've never had a teacher or professor speak to me the way she does.
I had the pleasure of being in professor Abele's English 203 class online for spring semester. Professor Abele's material was extremely interesting and inspirational. Professor Abele always made herself available to me when I needed feedback. She was warm and welcoming. I would recommend taking her class.

You will work hard, but you will learn. She is available, always returns emails promptly and provides links for extra help. This is not Grade 13 English. I struggled at times and felt discouraged, but now feel confident that going forward I can write a solid paper. She wants you to succeed and although seems abrupt at times, she truly cares.
If you're a excellent student, you will have absolutely no problems. If you don't have your homework for the next class, you only get partial attendance credit. Same goes for anything that is due. Very strict about attendance, if you are absent 3 times/3 zeros on essays you get dropped from the class. Tough grader so no surprise on exit exam!
Professor Abele is the best. I will recommend her to whoever wants to learn.

Not sure why she is receiving poor reviews. I had her for an online class, and while the workload can be heavy, you get out what you put in. She always immediately responded to my emails with any questions, and was more than glad to speak on the phone with me.

Absolute worst ever. Took her for an online summer class with over 6 assignments a week 50 points each & if u submit late you might as well not submit at all. Let me tell you how terrible it was being in her class... I took her for FILM & LIT over the summer and she had no concern for anyone's life outside of class. 5 long assignments during the week and worth 50 points each. She was never clear with instructions and the material was obnoxiously boring. I wouldn't recommend her at ALL!
I think Professor Abele isnt as bad as everyone makes her to seen. Just do the work she gives you and youll be okay. She doesnt have a different character from other Professors. I respect her.

By far worst and hardest professor I have ever had. I took summer Lit class and the work load was absolutely insane. She was very rude on feedback and the toughest grader. Deadlines are strict and she will take points off for work last minute. Quizzes every week. Avoid at all costs.
She is so disrespectful and demises her students. She acts like she is above everyone because she holds 3 letters attached to her name. She has no educational background and has no compassion for her students at all. She will continuously make you feel like you're a failure and your work is never good enough no matter how many times you redo it.
I took this course during the Corona pandemic time. There was no consideration for this at all. No consideration for the student's mental state and what is going on on the world. Very tough grader, and lots of reading. All the materials she used is around the horror movies and scary movies. Never diversified the reading topics, & too many papers.

You will have to really put the effort in to work for your grade! Even with all the extra credit you do you cannot afford to flunk. Make sure you email her and stay ahead of everything early!!! She grades harsh,attitude, but gives good reading choices. You will learn in this class and become better it's just a lot of work. Use the writing center!!!
Professor Abele is a true gem. I took her English Composition 101 as an online class, and if you participate and stay on top of deadlines, this class will be an enjoyable learning experience. Professor Abele was always prompt to answer emails and gave great feedback and is very clear with what she expects each week. She is an amazing professor!
Im taking her online summer courseI liked her until we were given the first essay. On my rough draft i was given a great score but when I got my final copy it was a 58. Then my next essay was similar but she allowed me one extra chance at revision, so I went to the writing center and we majorly fixed my essay and she still said it was horrible.
She seemed nice at first (online class) and I was wrong. I spent so much time on my essays, went to the writing center more than once sometimes for up to 2 hours per essay and still received poor grades. She told me and and one other kid that we were wasting her time in emails. Beware of weights, I had an A until her weighting which gave me a B.
She is condescending and speaks as if all the students have taken the class before. She gives so many papers and quizzes but they don't seem to count for anything. Just extra work. You ask her insight and she responds as if you have lack of intelligence. Thank goodness for the writing center.
Abele is one of the awful professors thats I ever meet. Shes a really nightmare. She doesnt appreciate the effort.

Be prepared to spend minimum 2 hours a day doing work. Reading 2 articles 30+ pages a week. If you do the work, you’ll do well. BUT she makes you do discussion posts which are AWFUL. You have to respond to people by a certain day but if there’s no other posts, you get a 0 because other people didn’t do work. SO. MUCH. WORK.
I haven't even finished this class yet & I wanna blow my brains out every time I have to do her meaningless work. She truly doesn't care about her students lives outside of class, there is so much hw every week. If I was taking this during a fall/spring semester with regular course load, I would not be able to manage all my work. Plz don't take her
the amount of work she assigns is insane. you have to argue with her to get the grade you earned. the online discussions were a joke, you have to wait for others to post before you respond, then you get marked late. absolutely insane amount of material, homework, readings, papers, etc. expect to spend 2 hrs a day on work at least
Run away. Prioritises cramming in as much coursework as possible over actually teaching anything students can retain. If you're interested in this class find another professor and take it in-person
