Her lectures seemed to drive you crazy, so boring. If you want to find a class that you can fall in to sleep with, I strongly recommend you to take hers.
the worst professor i've ever had. She doesn't know her stuff at all. As an economics professor, she thinks the value of an American dollar is more than a Euro.
I liked her class, even if the lectures are boring her slides are good and homeworks and tests are easy! I recomend this class and this professor!
this class was easy, but lectures were boring.
The # 1 teacher!!!
Ashby is an easy grader. She curves exams and also curves at the end. The exams are like the homework assignments. Easy ECN class.
Easy teacher and extremely nice. she will always help you if you need help. i definately recomend this class.
Her class is so~~~~ easy
Ashby is a very good teacher and easy. Nice lady. Much easier and more lenient than the other econ professors. 12 weekly hw assignments (drops lowest two) 6 quizzes (drops 1) and two tests. Not hard at all to get an A!! Attendance not mandatory. lectures not bad. Take Ecn 203 with her
The Best!!!
Great teacher, but she moves fast-- print off her lecture slides before class b/c you'll never catch up if you take notes by hand. HW and quizes are so easy, but watch it on the midterm/final... extra credit is offered tho. An easy professor who makes getting through a required class simple. PS dont buy evensky's book. biggest waste of $$!
She is very nice and lays all requirements and important dates out of the bat. Print out powerpoints and attend lectures on quiz and HW turn in days! Ashby is so nice and fun.
Great teacher that explains everything really well. Don't buy the textbook and as said before, just do your hw and prep for easy quizzes. Midterm and final are a little harder, but still worth it for her as a teacher
Nice and hot!!!:)
I bought the textbook but you totally dont need it. Just print out the slides and you will be fine. Great teacher and everything is really clear. Take her!
She's a great teacher! I was worried about taking economics because I'm so horrible with math and numbers but she is such a great teacher and makes the material easy to understand.
Ashby is awesome. She's very clear and the quizzes are easy. She puts powerpoints on blackboard. I use the book every so often if I don't understand the powerpoints.
overall good teacher. attendance is not mandatoy, she doesn't take attendance either. gives out homeworks, go to the TA get an easy A quizzes easy too, have a good understanding for the class and you'll get B If your reading this write about your professors
Easy "A" class. Very interactive during class. I went to every class though it wasn't mandatory. She does post the notes on blackboard. I just print the notes, bring them to class, & add the graphs that she does in class. There's easy quizzes like every 2 weeks & the exams are mainly mc with some short answers. Probably the best ecn professor in SU
This professor is AWESOME. Super nice, very approachable, and really wants everyone to understand the material. I was awful at economics until I took this class. She makes it very easy for you to do EXTREMLY well in this class, I think you'd probably have to try to do poorly. She is a really great teacher, one of the best I've had since being here!
DR. ASHBY IS WONDERFUL. SHE IS VERY HELPFUL AND VERY SMART. ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS IN SYRACUSE. I READ A COMMENT ON THIS WEB SITE STATING "SHE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER". THIS STUDENT MUST OF FAILED OR GOT CAUGHT CHEATING AND IS NOW UPSET. YOU ARE SO WRONG. DR. ASHBY THANKS FOR MAKING A BORING SUBJECT INTERESTING AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK
Super nice and helpful. Easy A
I love Ashby. She's extremely nice and loves to teach her class. It's an easy grade ONLY if you show up to class every day and take good notes because her quizzes and test reviews (and tests) are based EXACTLY on stuff you've done in class. There are no surprises. That's why I listed attendance as mandatory. In addition, she's kinda cute!
Seriously an easy A as long as you attend her lectures. Don't even need to go to "recitation/lab" or whatever she calls it. Exams are mad easy as long as you've done the homework. There's a reason why her sections fill up ASAP...
Simply put, she is boring and fails to engage the class. Granted, Econ is a boring subject naturally. However, looking at powerpoints and drawing graphs doesn't exactly help make it less boring. I also found her to be rude. There is a reason that as the semester went on, only half the kids showed up: the class was so boring no one cared anymore!
What an awesome professor! She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to do well. As long as you attend class, pay attention, and do your homework (which will take you 15 min tops) you will get an easy A. From what I've heard she's the best econ professor at SU, and after taking her class I see why!
Ashby is an amazing professor. Very clear about what she is looking for on hw and tests. I would recommend her to anyone
easy A class, if you attend all lecture and paid attention and take good notes in class you will be good for the hws quizzes and midterm, micro is alot more interesting than macro in my opinion so remember to stay awake in class and take good notes.
Such an easy teacher. Bumped up pretty much every homework grade and quiz to a perfect score bc she said her TAs weren't grading correctly. Just go to class and the labs and you'll get an A.
BEST TEACHER EVER! LOVE HER. dont take this class with anyone else. her tests, hw and quizzes are really easy. class isnt mandatory but you should go just to get her graphs. she explains the class so well. really enjoyable
great professor. so nice, and explains things well, especially compared to other 203 professors. it would take hard work to do poorly in her class.
I loved having Ashby for econ. She's the most easiest and best ecn 203 professor. She helps students understand concepts through graphs (easy graphs) and draws them with you for class. Her grading policy is fair, there's only 2 exams but there are 6 quizzes. Homework is easy if you attend lad sessions.
She's a rly nice person with good intentions, and just wants the best for you. shes helpful but i have to disagree with those who say it's an easy a class. you have to put work into it, but as long as you do everything she wants youll do good. her graphs her rly helpful, but tests can be a bit tricky so make sure ur quiz/hw grades are good
I liked this class. Didn't think it was overly easy, but certainly doable. If you are willing to do the work, this professor is great.
If you're willing to do the work it is an easy class, she pretty much does most of the work for you. Tests are difficult but if you study you can easily earn a B+
Wonderful professor!!!
If you attend her class, do your homework, & go to the recitation, you will easily get an A. Easy teacher & each class. This is the class that made me want to major in economics.
Ashby is the best trust me you will get an A I promise you even if you did not attend the class
Class is broken up into 2 Exams. You blow the exams, you blow the class. There are 10 point quizzes and HW assignments alternating every 2 weeks. The exams are 200 points and the HW and quizzes are 100. Great teacher and not hard to do well.
Great class if you already know some econ. If not, she's there to help and makes it readily available. Super nice and approachable, and very straightforward with lectures and grading. Can be very easy if you figure out what you're doing.
GREAT PROFESSOR. DR. ASHBY WAS VERY HELPFUL IF I DID NOT UNDERSTAND MATERIAL REGARDING ECN 203. SHE WAS ALWAYS AT OFFICE HOURS TO EXPLAIN AND HELP ME UNDERSTAND THAT MATERIAL. IF YOU GO TO ALL HER LECTURES AND STUDY FOR THE TESTS AND QUIZES YOU WILL DO FINE. MAKE SURE YOU DO THE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS. GOOD PROFESSOR AND ONE OF THE BEST AT SYRACUSE.
Ashby Rocks! You have access to all the powerpoints. If you print them, take notes and go to class, there is no way you won't get an A. She gives you extra credit if you go to class.
Ashby is awesome! Lectures are somewhat soporific. But the material is fairly easy. Easy A! ezpz
She is the best! She explains everything clearly. Take her class ASAP.
This is a super easy class. Prof Ashby makes everything clear most of the time. Exams are pretty easy as well as homework and quizzes. Highly recommend!
Ashby is a solid economics professor! Lectures could be long sometimes! She talks super fast and sometimes is very confusing. Picky on quizzes and homework. Expect to work hard to get A. This is not my favorite class but it could have been worse.
This is really not a hard class. The hardest part is paying attention. Professor Ashby does a really good job of explaining everything in detail. If you pay attention and take notes you will get an A. I would recommend her.
Very nice woman who is extremely clear cut. My only problem was I didn't study at all because I thought it was so easy, then didn't do great on the tests. That's on me though, not her. So if you go to class and study, you should be fine. She is always accessible and very understanding, even with hundreds of students.
The more you go to class the easier the class is. She uses the same examples a lot, but all her lectures cover the material on her tests. Plus the extra credit days are random and the points give your grade that extra boost. The textbook helped me a lot, but not necessary.
I hated this class. Ashby just goes on and on and nobody knows what shes talking about. She hardly ever answers questions so that people understand. And when kids raise their hand she never sees them because she just plows through the material. Definitely take this course with a different professor if you can.
Ms. Asby is a very good professor, much better than the usual at Syracuse. She is really dedicated to her students and passionate about economics. If you don't go to class, then go to recitation. If you don't go to either, you'll probably fail. Ms. Ashby tells you that when you start the course, so in the end, go to recitation and you'll be fine.
Really awesome professor that genuinely cares about the students. Just got to the lectures and the labs because than Professor Ashby and the TAs are extremely helpful and clear with helping you learn the information,
For me it was easy but (from what I saw) Prof. Ashby made herself available for students who did struggle and any student could attend lab sessions with TAs or office hours for extra help and questions. Exams were a combination of both homework and quizzes. She convinced me to be an econ major. (quizzes/ hw have changed since I took the class)
Your grade is pretty much quizzes and tests. I skipped class a lot and the material was hard for me so I just did average. Towards the end of the semester I came all the time and saw a dramatic increase In my grade.
Ashby is awesome!
Ashby gives you 12 assignments and only 8 count. She gives you the answers straight up for 4 of them and the other 8 are online take home and she encourages you to look the answers up in the book and work with other students. The tests are exactly like the quizzes so it's not hard to get at the very least a B.
She always wanted everyone to be clear about all the things
Honestly, its very hard to get up and go to this class everyday. She rambles on the whole time, sometimes its helpful, sometimes its not. If you don't attend most of her classes chances are you'll struggle. 2 test, 2 quizzes, and 12 assignments which she only counts your best 8. I wouldn't take this class again because of how useless it actually is
This is a great Economics professor, but Go To Class, take notes every time and you will do great. The material is heavy sometimes, so attend always. Overall great teacher, explains everything carefully. 12 assignments, she takes the best 8 only. Half the semester micro Econ, 1 midterm 1 final. Other half macro, 1 midterm, 1 final. Good teacher
just show up and you'll do good
Best professor in ECN department. Plz go to take her class if you are a ECN major or minor. Only two tests and quizzes are graded. She will give you practice problems before the test. Understand it and you will be fine.
She covers all the material for tests so no need for a textbook, just go to lecture. She's good at teaching but can be a little droll. She's nice, you get to drop 3 assignments and a test.
She is pretty awesome. All her handout give us a great way to take notes. During class, she will write notes with which is easy to follow. The only thing will be grading tho. She gives grate depends on the percentage of the classes. So in order to get an A, you have to be top 20% of all her three classes.
Econ with Ashby is the easiest course I have ever taken. She provides guided print-out notes and fills them in with you in class. There are weekly online quizzes that are fairly easy and about four exams that are easy as long as you understand the concepts. She is very helpful is you have questions and recommend her for any intro ECN class
I'm not one to rate professors but this class really could have been much easier if Ashby could actually teach. There are only 3 tests the entire year not including the final and if you don't do well on quizzes you just will not do well in the course.
Just an amazing professor. She does such a good job for a boring subject. Go to class and pay attention. If you need help she is always willing to go the extra yard to make you a better student.
Fairly easy class as long as you either show up or have taken Econ before. Just covers the basic concepts and goes pretty slowly to make sure you understand. Lectures can be boring and you won't suffer if you miss a few, but don't completely blow the class off because if you show up and actively listen you can do really well.
Professor Ashby is amazing. Organized and easy to follow notes, cares about your grade, very normal! Overall, definitely take her class and I'm sure she is just as good at teaching her other classes.
Ashby is alright she gives handouts to make it easier to follow the lecture in class, but she constantly goes off on unrelated tangents, so she doesn't get through as much as she was supposed to.
Quite boring, annoying voice. If you miss lecture good luck, none of the charts or graphs (75% of the class) are posted on blackboard.
To her defense it is easy to rush when you have an hour and 20 minutes to get through a short chapter. She did a good job at making things clear with that regard. But sometimes she dragged on when she didn't need to. It's pretty easy if you pay attention and do good on the online assignments.
Ashby is a very nice person but a very bad teacher. I never understood anything in the class and relied heavily on the free tutoring sessions they have in Bird Library with the graduate student teachers (who were better at teaching the material). I'm not an econ major which probably made it more difficult but I wouldn't take econ ever again
As long as you go to her lectures and actually pay attention, you can see that she is very good at teaching the topics. Yes, the class is a little fast-paced but you can definitely handle it if you review the notes and go to CLASS! The class is all exam/quiz grades and had to be in the top 20% to get an A (pretty sure she changed that tho).
If you dont miss any lecture then it will be an easy A class.
Nothing hard about this class. Ashby gives you everything you need to get an A and it doesn't require a lot. Should be a class that maintains/boosts your GPA. Just go and pay attention to class. You get what you put in.
This class is supposed to be an easier A. But it was actually a very challenging course. it requires constant full engagement and extra reading. Ashby works hard to communicate well. The final makes such a huge difference to the overall grade
Easiest class. Show up to the majority of lectures and glance at notes before exams and you'll be above average. Prof is really nice and drops your worst exam and homework grades.
Probably should've gone to class more often but not a bad class and she's a pretty good professor.
An incredibly easy class taught by a pretty good professor. She is good at outlining the points in her notes but can be incredibly dry and boring sometimes almost putting you to sleep.
She is a good professor and her exams are fair. Make sure to understand the content and do the homework and you'll do fine on the exams. She wants to make sure everyone understands what is going on. The lab sections are optional and just used to go over practice problems.
Ashby's class is absolutely vanilla, but you can still learn the subject from her and feel ready for ECN102. She's a nice lady and her exams are fairly easy, but trust me when I say you won't *enjoy* the class lectures. Personally, I showed up four times (syllabus handout and three exams) and still ended with an A. If you want easy, here you go.
The homework was pretty hard but she would answer questions on it and a lot of the answers are online. The test averages for all 3 tests were about an 80, so not too bad. Curves the tests by a couple points each time too
Actually learned something. All you have to do is the homework and your guaranteed a B. If you pay attention you'll get an A in the class. 9/10 recommend.
One assignment a week, 3 exams none cumulative. Super basic econ intro class. You will do well if you go to class and care about listening. She's funny and very kind/caring. She has a lot of students, but help is available through TA's and HW sessions. You will do fine as long as you show up and care about understanding the econ topics.
If you have zero knowledge as a freshman about economics, avoid taking her class.
Never took an Econ class before 101 and Ashby made the topics easy to learn/understand. Makes you slides w/ everything you need to know. Gives 1 hw/wk on the chapter you cover in class, and drops the 3 lowest grades (hard not to get 95%+ on that). Gives 3 non-cumulative tests, curves them, & weighs the one u do best on the most and worst the least
If you think this professor is difficult and rated her a one, then you need to start your freshman year at a Community College. I observed ratings at a one and that is just fake news. Check most her ratings and then maybe you need to take a close look at yourself.
She's very sweet and gives really good notes. Lectures were a little boring but as long as you pay attention and take notes you're guaranteed an A. If you miss class she also provides videos on each topic so if you don't feel like going to class you can just watch her lecture videos. She made concepts very easy to understand.
Super nice and helpful. Everything she taught was clear and organized. Love professor Ashby!
The best professor in economics. She absolutely cares about her students. Lectures are amazing. She makes learning understandable. Go to the lectures and do the homework you will be fine!
We miss you Professor Ashby.
Professor Ashby is a great lady but her lectures are extremely boring and while attendance isn't mandatory she does explain the concept well but will stay on one thing for like half of the lecture than repeat everything she said in the next one. Test are online and attendance isn't mandatory so take that as you will. Would take the class again.
Really easy class. There are only 3 exams and no finals. Out of the 200+ person class, probably only 75 showed up by the middle of the semester. The lectures are really boring, but it is helpful to do the weekly homework.
She was amazing! I'll admit lectures could get a little boring, but taking your own notes definitely helps. She explains everything so clearly and doesn't give too much work outside of class. As long as you complete the assignments, it's pretty easy to get a good grade in this class. You can really tell she cares about her students!
Super chill class. Lectures were boring and I'd say half the class was out the door by midterms. Tests were online and you can take them wherever...take that however you want. There was a weekly homework assignment, which doesn't take long but its a little tedious. I'm recommending this course to all my friends who have to take ECN 101!
