She means well and gives good notes but she's super annoying and doesn't explain things all that well in class. She treats students like they're children and that's annoying.
She is a new teacher so I will cut her some slack, but she is not very clear in class. She flies through examples, skips steps and assumes we already know the material. Only perk is that if you go her office outside of class she will help you understand it. Although she is nice I would not recommend.
BAD!!!
She doesn't show all steps, you're left to fill in the blanks a lot of the time. I've already done most of the material in High School with the exception of a few topics, yet I listen to her explanations and they make no sense to how the problem is actually solved. I would not recommend her to anyone.
Beth-Ann Austin is actually a great teacher. She always has office hours if you need any help and you can always ask for help during/after class. The people who dislike her obviously haven't put much effort into the course(s). Her notes may be iffy, but nonetheless I would recommend her. She really cares about her students.
Beth Ann is a nice woman, and tries to help you with anything she can. She knows her stuff, but I don't think she can text it well.
Her notes are lacking a step by step process, it's almost as if she assumes we know the material already. Her explanations are extremely confusing, she introduces a way of doing something and then later changes it without clarifying that she has used another method. My background in math is great but I did poorly after she replaced our prof.
She is not very helpful. I didn't understand a small topic covered in class so I went by her office for a better explanation and got nothing. She didn't explain it at all she acted as if I should know it from the one and only example she did in class in 3 minutes. I don't recommend her. She is confusing.
A nice prof who is very laid back and accommodating. However, NOT a good teacher. Flies through material and examples skipping steps along the way assuming students can follow and gets aggravated when students ask questions. Would only recommend if you are already familiar with the material.
Awful Prof. She replaced my prof halfway through the semester and I went nowhere but down. She isnt clear in class and her notes are useless. She cant explain how to do it and leaves steps out. She gets flustered with students constantly and is impatient. Trying too hard to come off as a hard prof when she only just started. I would not recommend.
For her first time teaching she did well. The only time she "skips steps" is during algebraic simplification of a limit or derivative; which you should know anyway in calculus I. She is very nice and easy to talk to with infinite office hours. Despite what she has scheduled she's always there. If you're bad at math maybe avoid her but I liked her.
She seem to be a nice enough person, but does not explain things well AT ALL and speaks very quietly. Would not recommend.
Terrible prof. Avoid taking her class at all costs. She seems like a nice person, but has no idea how to teach. She can't explain what she's doing and skips a million steps in between, without explaining what she did.She gets very annoyed when people ask questions and she assumes that we know what she's talking about. Midterms are ridiculously hard.
While she may be a very smart person, she is NOT a good teacher by any means. I would go to class and not have a clue what she meant by anything. She constantly skips important steps and assumes you know what she does. Also, If you can't get a spot in the front you hardly hear what she is saying which makes it even worse. AVOID her.
Great person. Very helpful during office hours. The problem was that many people were accustomed to Craighead and she had to take over for him, which is unfair to her. Her assignments were much more manageable than Craigheads (he's awesome though). If you like math, she is a great teacher. If you're dim, then perhaps she is too intelligent for you.
She's okay. She's nice but I found she assumes people knows what she's talking about and she overly complicates things sometimes. If you go see her in her office she will try her best to help you. Also when she grades midterms and finals she will go out of her way to give you extra marks to help you out.
She is the sweetest, most helpful prof ever!! She will help you for as long as you need it and she cares how her students do! TO ALL THE HATERS: you probably hate cause you don't put the time in and just want to blame it on her! GET HER IF AT ALL POSSIBLE
I had the privilege of having Beth-Ann last semester, and now I have her for math 1000. She continues to be as awesome as she was last semester. She provides many examples, helps her students, and goes out of her way to provide marks for examinations. She is an excellent and underrated prof. As long as you work hard, you'll succeed in her class.
She is the best prof I've had at MUN. Unbelievably helpful, and shes always there when you need help. She gets marks back within days(even midterms), and updates d2l asap. If I can get her for 1050 in the fall I definitely will. 100% recommend to anyone :)
THE WORST! Only had her as a prof because mine was hit by a car. I was probably better off going and getting hit by a car myself.
teaches using examples rather then focusing on the theory. always willing to help, stays after class often to answer questions. she answers emails within 24hrs. If you put the effort in, then she is great. only thing is sometimes her explanations make your more confused then before and end up asking more questions.
Going to class was helpful, as she goes through examples clearly, assignments and midterms were fair, she is open to help you if you go to her, one of my favorites this semester
She has been my favourite prof so far at mun. She's always in her office so it's literally impossible to do bad on her assignments because she will clarify anything you don't understand. I'm doing a math major and I'll go as far to seek out the classes she's teaching because she was so great. She was also super nice and easy to talk to
Extremely helpful and accommodating professor. Sure, you need to do a lot of work on your own, but this is university and not high school. If you go to her office hours she will clarify anything you need. She put all her notes online and 10% of our grade was basically showing up to class. Would recommend her if you're willing to put the work in.
Very tough grader; doesn't give marks easily! Extremely long tests! Aka 9 page midterm in 50 minutes. Fairly quiet while teaching. Wouldn't reccomend taking her class if you can avoid it
Not a good prof to take if you aren't somebody to teach yourself. I finished high school advanced math with a 90 and got a 50 on the first test. She doesn't explain questions as she does them, she just expects you to follow along. Assignments are due every week. Tests are very long, like 9 pages long, with questions that have loads of steps to them
Crazy long midterms, I finished my first with 45 seconds to spare and I was going as fast as I could. Several assignments weekly and you don't get feedback for the written ones (which are way more difficult) until the next week. Good notes but even the help centre didn't know how to do one of her assignment questions.
Overall decent prof, the assignments are a bit tricky but she gives good notes and pretty good letcures
Most boring lectures I've ever seen, slept a couple of times in the class!
I had a 75% in this class when Craighead was teaching, getting no lower than a 90% on an assignment and I got a 74% on my first midterm. Then he got hit by a car and Ms. Austin took over. Felt like I was back in High school class. Long story short I ended up going into the final with a 58% and coming out with a 47%. Plus paid 100$ for John O'Reily.
Trying to prove how smart she is. Definitely makes things harder than they should be. 9+ page exams.
I don't know why people rated her poorly, I'm taking Calculus II with her now and she's really good. We even get to stay in groups to do our homework (optional). She posts notes after every class and gives exercises.
I don't know why people say she's a bad prof. First time having her and she's such a great prof. She posts notes online after every lecture. Assignments every week as like every other math prof. Her assignments were good and some were tricky but go to her with ?'s and she'll help you. Over all a great prof. Would defiantly take again! :)
She is a new(ish) prof, so a little shy and lectures are boring but she puts everything on d2l which is a life saver. her notes are really good, a bit rushed towards the end of semester but we had multiple snow dayscancellation. tests are really tough, but you will be prepared for the final. always ready to help, and easy to talk to.
I would definitely recommend this prof. She does pause a lot when she speaks but once you get used to it she's great. Her notes are all posted online and they're very structured and easy to follow. She gives a lot of examples and tests are very fair.
Solid Prof. Gives challenging tests but if you study they aren't that bad. Pretty clear in class. She gives good notes. Would recommend to anyone doing math 1001.
MATH 1090 with Beth Ann during this winter semester 2014-15. I can easily say she was one of the best professors I've had in here so far at MUN. She genuinely cares for her students and would do anything to make sure they understand what's going on. 7 assignments which are awesome mark boosters, and so clear!! Love her - shes the reason im passin
Posted all the notes online. Taught in an effective way. Some questions on midterms were unnecessarily long. Allows you to correct one question for half the marks you lost. Overall a decent prof.
Loved her for 1001! I found her very clear in her lectures but she does rush a bit to cover all of the material. Her tests were identical to the practice test she gave out. If you actually complete the assignments and practice you'll find the course a breeze. She also gave back tests so you can redo a question for bonus marks which was great!
Highly recommend! Only math prof I've had who actually posts notes online, she is very organized, clear in her explanations, and gives excellent examples. Encourages her students to listen rather than scramble to write during lectures and really wants you to understand the material and learn from your mistakes on testsassignments.
An amazing prof! Not the easiest course but she gives lots of examples. Her tests are fair and you are well prepared for the final exam. I would definitely take a course from her again!
Literally the best prof I have ever had. She lets you redo a page of the each test to get a better grade, and sometimes even lets the class redo the whole test if it was done poorly and then will pick your best mark and use that one. Feedback on tests and assignments are very clear. She is always willing to explain things and help you!
After taking Math 1000 with her, I've started hating Math.
Such an amazing prof! I struggle a lot with math and she has helped me so much this semester. If I ever have questions she is always there to help! Very easy to talk to. She posts all her notes online so you can actually listen in class instead of scrambling to copy all the notes. I would highly recommend this prof! Really wish she was teaching1050
Best prof my first semester at MUN! There are 3 tests for semester, and an assignment due almost every week which only takes about an hour. She lets you redo the page on the test you lost most marks on, which usually boosts you up another 6 % or 7%. Always answers emails, always willing you meet with you for help Love her!! 10/10 would reccomend
She has really good notes and posts all of them online, but as a teacher she isn't that great. She says "um" and "and" all the time between words and its very distracting. Tests are fair but always has 1 question that throws you off. She lets you re-do a page of your test for a better mark. Better at one on one than in front of the class.
Beth Ann is not a bad prof. Her notes are very good. She posts skeleton notes online that you can use to follow along in class, or print the notes off D2L after class. Prepares you well for the final exam. She allows you to hand back exams for half the original marks. Her lectures do get a little boring, and sometimes she is hard to follow.
Such a great prof, I'm trying to work my schedule to have her for all my math courses. She's super sweet and always there for her students with whatever she can help with. All her notes are online but the class is 100% beneficial to go to. I hate math br she made the course bearable
By far the best prof I've ever had. Her notes are all online and they're very clear. She even posts extra practice sheets online. Professor Austin takes time out of her day to hold tutorials for her students. She is super nice, easy to approach, and is very helpful. She cares about her students and it shows. I'd recommend her.
Let you fix a page on tests to get extra credit. Clear lectures.
Terrible math prof. Can't solve her own math problems half of the time. Screws up workings quite frequently. Nice girl, but cannot teach.
Extremely approachable. Very nice woman, knows her material and doesn't often mess up the problems. Tests are long but allows you to redo one or two questions for half marks. Notes are super useful.
Beth Ann was amazing, her notes were online and very clear and understandable. She is so approachable and has so many ways you can contact her, she is always so nice and happy and there is no prof at MUN who cares about their students as much as she does. Her test are fair and it is only one assignment a week. Would take again she is awesome
Very nice person and cares about student success. Be careful with her tests since they appear to be the longest (and tough depending on your Calc skills) when compared to the other 1001 slots. Allows you to redo 1 question on tests for upto 1/2 the marks you lost for any question. Notes are scanned and posted on D2L, but she does take attendance!
shes a good prof but get ready to be serious because her tests compared to other profs are tough and can be confusing. if you aren't prepared. shes really helpful. 1001 WAS FUN. BEST MATH PROF..............
Excellent! Best Math Professor and Tutor Ever! Extremely caring and understanding the people's needs especially people work hard and has autism like me. She will definitely do the world for everyone if anyone ever needs help and assistance and needs to talk to. Super duper considerate, helpful and very warm-hearted person like a sister to me.
Very sweet prof. Weekly assignments were not too bad. She went over the answers in class and was an excellent help if anyone did not understand a topic. The tests were hard and the final exam was even harder. I think it would have went more smoothly had she corrected them herself and saw where people were struggling. Taking math with her? STUDY UP!
Beth is such an amazing prof. She puts notes online so you can print them off and follow along during class and puts completed notes online after each class. She is very clear with her explanations. On midterms you are given the opportunity to redo a question and submit it for marks, which is nice if its the difference between a pass and a fail.
Posts all her notes online, short weekly assignments which really help to keep you on top of things. Allows you to re do one question on your midterm, super caring lady and very understanding.
It is my first year in university. I found her very help and she as no problem answering any questions. I find her lectures fly by, she uses good examples in class and the tests are fair. Perfect for a first year student :) Thumbs up for professor Austin
Beth is great!! You have weekly assignments and they're great for getting your mark up (if you get it done before due date she tells me what I have wrong.) Beth is super chill and kinda quirky, I can't really think of anything bad to say about her!! Lectures go by very quickly and tests are a bit hard, but just study and you'll be fine. Id reccomen
I had Beth Ann for my first math course a test memorial university, I was nervous when taking her because I struggled with math for years and she seemed to have a lot of negative comments. Best math teacher, weekly assignments help keep you on top of things and prepare you for the tests. Taking her again for math 1000 next semester! Best prof ever
She is super clear, well organized, if you go to the class and do the homework you do not have any problems getting a good grade and most important learn Calculus
Great prof, her notes were very clear and explained everything. As long as you went to class and paid attention and did all the work you should have no trouble. Weekly assignments were great to bring up marks as well.

Beth-Anne was a great prof!! She really cared about her students doing well. Her notes are very clear and reflect what is on the tests and exams. The timing for the tests is tough and it was often hard to complete everything on time but Beth-Anne is very helpful and as long as you attend class and do the practice material you will have no problems!
Personally I loved Professor Austin this semester. Her teaching style is wonderful and she really makes it easy to find course content and she puts all her notes online. She's fast at replying to emails and is wonderful at accompanying students' needs! Super nice too! Only thing is tests were kinda long for the time limit we had to do them!
Amazing prof! Notes were very detailed and clear, making sure you go to class is easy for fast-tracking yourself to an A, she is easily accessible and is perfect for answering any questions you may have any helping you in anyway possible. Weekly assignments and in-class work are great for boosting your mark as they are very easy to get a 95+ in.

Weekly assignments and in-class work are great for boosting your mark as they are very easy to get a 95+ in.
She's awesome! Her notes are great, and she's very helpful while going through them. There's learning catalytics that takes place in class, which is worth 10% and can definitely help at the end of the semester. I would recommend going to class to watch her go through the notes, because if not you'll get confused. I'd recommend her to anyone!
Beth Ann definitely tried her best to ensure the class passed. The 60% final is unfortunate, but standard for 1090. Her in-class work and out of class assignments were easy A material, and her notes were amazingly clear and detailed. She answered emails very quickly and offered students the chance to resubmit questions on tests they did badly on.
GREAT prof! She really knew what she was talking about. Participation matters as there are little in class questions you have to answer through learning catalytics that go towards your overall grade. She is such a sweet person, will answer any questions you may have. Would definitely recommend.
She is a very helpful prof. She makes time to see her students out of class and does her best to help them understand. It was my second time taking 1090 and her notes were fabulous in comparison to other profs. She is a little quiet in class so concentration is a must. Taking 1000 with her next semester.
She has notes online for each unit that you can print out and fill in, she also will post a copy of all the notes wrote in class with the date at the end of the day. Lets you redo 1 question on tests for half marks. Assignments are easy A, just make sure they're handed in on time (can submit in groups of 4). Final was difficult but to be expected.

Lets you redo 1 question on tests for half marks. Assignments are easy A (can submit in groups of 4). Final was difficult. Attendance mandatory due to online questions you must answer in class
She is a great teacher. After every lecture she posted the notes on D2L. She's really approachable and caring. I'm taking her again for math 1000.
She's awesome, I went for extra help several times and she is patient and great at explaining. All of the notes are online so you can just watch in class. She does review classes before tests and they are really helpful.
She was a great professor. She put all of her blank and filled in notes online so it was easy to find and read! She had an assignment due every week but it helped a lot in the end when it came to the type of questions asked on the final. Would totally recommend her to anyone struggling or really good with math.
One of the best math profs at MUN! Marks questions very fairly. It is evident that she cares about her students and truly wants everyone to do their best! Highly recommend!!
I loved Prof. Austin. I would 100% recommend for anyone who struggles with math at all. Very approachable and patient when asking your questions after the lecture. Assignments every week which really help grasp the concept better and she gives partial marks on tests if you redo a question.
She is a great prof, I recommend anyone who struggles with math to take it with her.
She's an amazing prof! Easy to follow in class and available for questions afterwards. Gives alot of assignments that are fairly easy to help boost your grade.
She is a great prof at mun. if you really struggle with math shes the prof for you! Shes very caring and apporachble and wants you to suceceed. I recommend not skipping class because that lead to me repeating math 1000 but i took it with her again
AWESOME prof, Austin is an amazing prof who really cares about her students. midterms are challenging and long, but if you know the material, you will be fine. allows extra marks to redo parts of midterms
Beth Ann is the most gentle, caring lady you will ever meet. She is so willing to talk with students and to help them as much as she can wether they are struggling or doing well. She includes almost too much evaluation though with weekly quizzes AND assignments and her tests and final tend to very difficult. Very understanding which helps a lot.
Beth Ann was a gem! Her notes are very clear and organized which makes it easy to understand. Very approachable if you ever have a question, she seems genuinely invested in helping her students
Contrary to popular belief Beth Ann is NOT a tough grader. she is an amazing math prof who really cares about how well her students do and is there to give help whenever it is needed. She does tend to fly through some topics but is willing to slow down and explain more when needed. Always gives review classes before tests too go over whatever.
As someone who struggles with math, Beth is one of the best profs I have had at MUN. Her patience with students is remarkable and she is very easy to reach outside of class. She posts all her notes online and is such a genuine sweet woman.
Amazing teacher. Gives all the extra help you need. Posts all the notes online. Very clear. Very organized. Will explain topics until she makes sure everyone understands.
Makes it easy for you to do well. Tests are good with no surprises, and even lets you redo questions you got wrong for extra marks! Assignments are a bit tough, but she gives so many part marks so you end up doing fine. Only downfall is she stutters A LOT. Other than that she's super nice and easy to access outside of class.
This professor is not for students that wish to breeze math. There are weekly assignments and the exams test your entire knowledge base. Otherwise, a fair marker, but heavy weight on final exam
Taking this class reminded me a lot of being back in high school. Beth is nice but definitely treats students like they are younger than what they are. Tests were not easy and assignments did not have enough questions on them to prepare you for tests.
She is a real sweet prof and tries her best to help out in anyway she can. You have to go to class however because there is work done online that counts for a grade. Her tests are not extremely hard and she will let you make up for it by doing questions again that you got wrong. Theres weekly assignments but they are not very hard
Beth is such an amazing person in and out of class. I use to go to her office for help if I didn't understand something right away. She walks you through the question you're asking so she can answer it right. She is such a gem because her notes are so easy to understand and she also posts the notes if you miss a class it's fine.
Gave you the notes before and got you to fill out the answers during class. Super helpful! Without a doubt my favourite prof ever! They should really make more humans like her! Even when she broke her leg she still showed up to give extra tutorials! Every1 deserves a prof like her in university! Thanks for being so helpful during office hours -MC
She's amazing, incredibly helpful and explains things very well. Structures her classes well and is very fair while also preparing you to go on further in mathematics. I loved having her as a teacher!
Had her for both MATH 1090 and now MATH 1000. Awesome professor who cares about student success, creates a pleasant learning environment. Feel lucky to be in her class again, as she is without fail will always post notes, assignment solutions, etc. Made herself available for tutorials and gives awesome explanations when asking Q's over email.
She is great!!! She has the best notes
Best Math Prof I have taken at MUN! She's really sweet and cares about her students, making time to explain questions and help her students prepare for the tests so that they can do their best!
The course isn't easy but she does a good job with her notes and has lots of practice to do. Her tests weren't to hard and had lots of preparation for them as well as a very similar practice test she would post before. Theres weekly web assignments to help boost your grade and weekly written assignments witch are a bit harder and long but they help
She is a lovely lady. She's approachable and is willing to help her students do better in the course. Lectures can be heavy but that is more so because of the course, not her teaching style. Would recommend taking her.
Best prof ever. I would take her class if it was at 6 am
Great professor. Her lectures are all very clear and if you follow along and write as she is, you will have great notes to study. They are recorded in case you miss. Easy assignments to keep you on top of work and boost your grade. She even lets you redo some test questions for extra marks. Very approachable if you need help.
Beth Ann is a good professor if you're willing to listen and take notes. She's not exactly the greatest speaker but she gets her point across most of the time. Attending class is important as she usually asks questions that students must respond to on their computers/phones via pearson mathlab. Big on respect so don't disrupt during lectures
In my opinion, she is the best mathematics professor at MUN. Though there is a textbook, you'll be just fine even if you don't read through it as long as you attend classes and take down notes in class. Her tests are pretty similar to the material she covers, and she gives you a decent amount of chances to improve your grades.
For someone who really struggles with Math, Beth Ann is 100% the way to go. She is super understanding and will let everyone redo up to 10 marks on tests and redo quizzes if you got lower than 60%. She really wants to see her students do well
She seems like a sweet individual however, I could not gel with her teaching style. She tries to explain concepts and problems but moves too fast in the process and skips steps that I found necessary to understand. Coming from someone who does not have a strong background in math I simply couldn't follow her lectures and had to seek out a tutor.
Honestly an amazing prof! Would take her again in a heart beat! Made learning easy, was so caring and understandable! Definitely puts in an effort to make sure you excel in her class, if you struggle with math I would definitely recommend Beth Ann.
Beth Ann is amazing. She gives you the chance to get back up to 10% on both midterms, and will drop your lowest midterm if it helps your end grade. She truly does all she can to help you do well.
She is a real gem, I would say. Very understanding. Question is very easy and usually, she makes the question from her class lectures. Teaches very good and nice to everyone.
Beth Ann is a great prof that wants everyone to succeed. She grades us on many things that can help people get their grades up. Going to class is highly beneficial.
Beth is a very sweet person and always tries her best to go through examples as thoroughly as possible to make sure everyone understands it. It is math 1000 so its obviously going to be a more challenging course, but she tries her best to give feedback and give you chances to improve your grade if you did poorly on a test. 100% would take her again
Great professor. She does tend to fly through examples but she does about 2 or 3 with the class and then gets the class to do one on their own. If you're having difficulty she is very willing to help you during office hours. She posts notes and examples online so if you have to miss a class you won't be in big trouble. Recommended if available.
Can't recommend her enough! The lectures were easy to understand and she posts all the notes online. She responds to emails pretty quickly and is very easy to approach outside of class. The tests are reasonable and she also lets you redo a small portion of tests afterwards to help boost your mark. She is a absolute gem.
easy going through lectures and gives clear explanation of everything. cooperative and helpful.
Exams are tough, web assignments are frequently happened and weakly assignments. Does lecture capture, and posts the notes after every class, thus do not need to attend classes. The final exam is tough.
Even if you do not come to class, she has everything posted on D2L(brightspace), just do assignments and read her notes and an "A" is assured
Beth Ann is the absolute best prof at mun she is so caring and will go the extra mile to make sure all of her students pass and succeed Beth ann made math so enjoyable
I've had her twice. She teaches well and she's pretty nice also.
Mrs. Austin is an amazing prof. I was really nervous about doing math 1000 because I didn't do math 1090; but I was assured by her very quickly that everything was going to be okay as long as I did my work. She does tons of examples. I personally found that her assignments were not long but took me a long time to do. However, everything is fair.
Math 1000 was the hardest course I have ever took, I barley passed. If I did not take this prof I would not have passed because she is very nice when it comes to grading and after tests lets you get some extra marks by redoing some questions for up to something like 5-10% extra credit if you do them right. Assignments due every week.
She is awesome really cares for her students. Has short quizzes each week maybe 5 questions. posts really good instruction videos and has a meeting every week. she is very approachable via email and is extremely understanding. The material is well explained and laid out and is only difficult if math is not your strong suit like me
Very thorough, provides many good resources, good summaries. Seems to have problems with grading correctly. Although is willing to fix the grade if you're keen enough to realize she got it wrong. The problem is I fear most students won't notice or are new to MUN and won't mention it out of fear. Happened multiple times (5+). Had to rate lower.
Best prof!! Weekly WebWork assignments, each with unlimited attempts to boost your grade. One midterm and a final which were very fair and no surprises. She offers a weekly tutorial session to ask any questions, and also will use your specific example from the assignment! Will definitely be taking her again.
She makes math easy to understand. She is one of the best if not the best math teacher I have ever had. Breaks down information in bits that is easy to understand. I have a really deep respect for these types of math teachers.
I has Prof Austin for Math 1000 in my first semester. I failed because I was doing a very heavy course load. The tests and final exam are heavy weight department wide so make sure you are your assignments.
I had her for online classes due to covid, and her class was by far the most organized. She is amazing at explaining concepts in a way that's easy to understand. There was lots small weekly assignments, so you had to keep up with the work. Fantastic class! I learned a lot without a crazy amount of stress :)
Professor Austin is a Gem. Extremely organized, responds to questions quickly and is very clear in her teaching.
She is my favourite prof I've had, she really cares for her students and breaks math down very well. She responds quickly when you contact her. I was never good at math but she made me understand! 100% recommend anyone who needs a math course when they are not great at math. She is very forgiving and gives you extra questions for marks on tests.
the best prof I have ever had in MUN, she is so kind and thoughtful!!! Plus her exams are just like the practice ones .
You will have to put in minimal effort every week but that's how Prof. Austin helps you pass. Instead of having all the weight in just your exams. She also seems to care about her students and their well being. Overall very nice
Hands down the best prof I have ever taken an online course from. Yes, there is a lot of work but it's doable (a small quiz, 4-6 question assignment and some webworks /week) but she is accessible and understanding when needed. Oh yeah and all lectures are youtube videos (great for skipping through parts you know) so that's cool.
She was excellent in the lecture videos that she'd post, but there was A LOT of work to do each week. However, the quizzes were short and the check-ins could be redone until you get a grade you're satisfied with. Everything seemed pretty easy until doing the exams, the midterm wasn't too bad but the final exam was incredibly difficult!!!
Great instructor and very helpful. Difficult to get extensions, missed a few assignments because I had covid and she wouldn't give me an extension because I had "plenty of time to complete it before". Easy to contact with solid lectures
I don't like math that much but Beth Ann made it so easy! All her lectures were YouTube videos split up by topic, and she explains things very well with lots of examples. Assessments were a multiple choice quiz, homework questions, and a 1 hour quiz, every week. She was easy to get in contact with and super helpful and caring. Best math prof!
I was 10+ years out of practice when I took MATH 1090 and MATH 1000. Even with a setback like that, Beth Ann's lectures/videos were excellent at communicating important concepts and getting me back up to speed. The weekly workload was high and the finals were pretty heavy, but if you have to do first-year math, I can't recommended Beth Ann enough.
She is super easy to contact and is completely willing to answer any questions! I didn't find the weekly quizzes to be too difficult but they were graded strictly. The midterm exam wasn't bad but the final exam was insanely difficult and extremely unfair.
Elizabeth Austin is an absolute angel, she was so kind and always made an effort to help. She explains the content very clear and always answers questions. She goes out of her way to help students such as doing review/help session classes of the material presented that week and reviews tests to help others understand better. She's a great professor
Uses fill in notes which is very convenient, accessible via email and answers quick, will change grades if needed, overall very pleased.
I really enjoyed Austin's class! She explained the material quite well.If you email her, you will get a fast response. She doesn't care how basic or advanced the question is,she'll answer it. She also used different colored pens when writing notes, she'd use certain colors for calculations & notes-this made her notes easy to understand.
Elizabeth is a sweetheart. Goes over everything thoroughly to make sure you understand the content. She is very accessible via email with quick responses. She used different coloured pens for different calculations and while drawling graphs to make it easy to follow. Overall amazing prof take her class if you can.
Really awesome prof. She really knows how to lay out the material as clear as possible. :)
Prof. Austin was a great prof, she was kind and cares about her students. I struggle with math but she was definitely one of the better profs I could've gotten. the course is very midterm/exam heavy, so even if you get A's on all the quizzes/assignments its easy to still do poorly overall because of how heavily weighted the tests are but she's good
I never was good at math but this prof is fantastic. She made me understand this course fully and receive a great grade. She engagingly teaches the material and is very organized. She is quick to hand back tests and assignments and is very understanding/accommodating. She gives lots of opportunities to boost your grade! Awesome recommend!!
Ms Austin was a very good professor, I took 3200 in high school and then 1090 as a refresher and I found her to be very caring and understanding for her students. If I could take her again for other courses, I would in a heartbeat.
Very sweet and caring lady. I failed a midterm due to family circumstances, and still came out with a 91 in the course. She does give lots of opportunities for grade improvements throughout the semester, however, be ready to do your work for this course. Midterms were very lengthy, but she let us redo one page for up to 5 extra marks afterwards
She is incredible. She answers emails very fast and has accessible office hours. Always willing to help and engages class in lectures, she also frequently looks for ways to improve. Her tests, assignments, and quizzes are all very fair and based on previous work. Her notes are also very clear. One of the best profs I have had! 100% recommend.
She is incredible. Always available by email and office hours, you can tell that she truly cares about her students and her lectures and notes are very well written and easy to understand. I would 100 percent take again.
Professor Austin is very caring and makes the material easy to understand. The course is challenging, but she provides plenty of opportunities to boost your grade. I found unstuck study helpful for study prep along with the provided resources.
Elizabeth was a great prof that really care's about her students. She offers extra credit on midterms by giving you the chance to rewrite a long answer question of your choice. The ta also marked one of my weekly practice tests wrong and she fixed it without hesitation. Would recommend!
Nothing bad to say about her, weekly quizzes were slightly a jump from what we learned in lectures, but were open book so they were easy none the less. She wastes no time in lectures, you come to class do problems, and then leave. Very time efficient. The midterms are straight forward. Would strongly reccomend this prof.
Genuinely such a sweet professor. Beth Ann responds very quickly outside of class and is more than willing to help with any problem a student might have. The assessments she does are also very fair, with open book quizzes to help you gauge where you are in your learning. I highly recommend her
I would recommend Elizabeth to anyone taking a math course. Her notes are clear and concise, she's helpful and knowledgeable in her field. The only complaint I have are her exams, they're much harder than any examples we're given; I know that's part of the course, but I didn't get to practice any tricky questions like the ones on exams.
Dr. Austin is such a phenomenal math professor!! She made MATH 1051 such a breeze even though I'm not the best at math. She is so kind and truly cares for her students. She responds to emails quickly and she has a lot of resources on brightspace. So so sad she isn't teaching 1050 for winter 2025!!
Very good prof gives you opportunities to do better
This course is fine, but the final was so hard for no reason
Beth after taking her math 1090 class is a no brainer for a professor, her lectures were great and understanding them was made easy due to her giving us multiple questions and then giving us time to solve a similar question which greatly helped with the understanding of the material. Additionally practice for the test and final exam were excellent.
I struggled with math in high school, but I did well in Austin's class! She breaks down concepts in a way that's easy to understand and always ensures her students feel supported. Very approachable as well so don't be afraid to ask questions.
I loved taking this course with her, her notes are great and if you follow along in the lectures you will succeed, she genuinely cares about her students which is lacking in many profs, can't recommend her enough.
I loved taking math 1051 because of her! Her notes are great and she very accessible outside of class. If your struggling with any concept in this class she will be more than thankful to help as she loves to see all her students succeed. Part of the grading scheme contains quizzes worth 10% of your final grade, where your bottom 2 get dropped.
Dr. Austin is the best math prof I have ever had at MUN. Her lectures are easy to follow, she is easy to reach outside of class, and she wants all of her students to do well. She gives an opportunity to get extra marks on both midterms. I struggled through other math courses, but went into the final exam with a 90 in hers. Strongly recommend her!
Probably one of the best profs I've had at MUN! She cares about all her students and will take the time to explain all the material in depth. I'm soooo not a math person and finished her class with an A+! Couldn't recommend her enough!
I personally suck at math and almost failed 3200 in high school, but her lectures and teaching style seemed to help me. The tutorial quizzes are a great grade booster. I did find myself still teaching myself a good amount of the material. Make sure to do the weekly worksheets as the section goes on, and not just after for review.
Beth Ann is by far the best professor I have ever had. I had her in the winter for 1090 and just recently in the fall for 1051. In both classes I have done amazing and it truly because of how she teaches. Tutorial quizzes, web works and assignments are an easy grade booster. Highly highly highly recommend Beth Ann for any student
