This class is really easy to cheat, which is why it is so easy, also, there is no final unless you need the points

This is a great online GE course to take! You have a of lot choices in this class about what what assignments you want to do. Text is easy to read (written by instructor), and assignments are not too hard. Final is optional.

Great teacher, Hartwell is a great addition. Hartwell Taught 90% of the time.

Got an A in the 6 week. Did 8 out of 17 chapters writings, and 17/17 chapters multiple choices quizzes, 1 extra credit assignment, and some announcement quizzes only.

Great online course!!! The class was so interesting and not hard--you just do the amount of work you want to do, on your own time.

Great teacher. You can choose how much work you do. Don't have to do every assignment.

I took the online class so I didn't get to interact with the professor. However, in her online comments and letters I found her to be prices and fair. This class is not an easy A, but it is an easy C or B.

With 2 Professors working together this class is outstanding. You get the best information from three teachers instead of one. Wish I had taken the in-class as they were all very informative

The cool thing is that whatever grade u want u can have if u work for it!The system is such that there r more than enough points 4 an A.U choose how many tests & assignments u want 2 do/how many points u want 2 earn.The grading can be tough.I got A's!! =)

I took the online class. It is easy if you are willing to work. As long as you are willing to work you can definately get an A. There are LOTS of Bonus points avaliable so there is no worries for an A if you finish the module worksheet before deadlines. Make sure finish one to two module each week.

I took this class online & it proved to be very good for me. I worked hard & was able to finish in 5 weeks with an A( you work to get the grade you want, basically) being the largest class online, I would recommend it if you have good time management & self-motivation.

Super easy class. Lots of material to cover but presented in an extremely easy to understand format. Book was cheap too! Lots of people to talk to if you have questions though I didn't have many..

Online class. TONS of works. Two modules per week including quizzes and 1k words+ assignments. It takes a LONG time and HARD work to get an A, not as easy as people here have said.

TONS of work! But, VERY FAIR. You feel as though you are in controll of your grade in these classes b/c you can decide on how many assignments you will do depending on the grade you want to earn. You'll get an A if you work for it. Great classes! =) LOVED THEM!

This class is easy if you work ahead. A lot of writting but the music teachers are easy graders. Most of the modules are based on how much BS you can come up with. Great way to boost your gpa but you need to be able to manage your time.

THIS WAS SO EASY THAT I FINISHED IT WEEKS BEFORE IT WAS OVER AND DID NOT EVEN HAVE TO DO ANY EXTRA CREDIT, THE FINAL, OR EVEN ALL OF THE MODULES! EASY A!

Dr Barkley and Professor Heartwell are the most nicest teachers you will ever meet.However, Dr Gato needs to work on his social skills. They put together a fun and interesting class. DO THE MODULES AHEAD OF TIME.... overall an easy A.

Very interesting course. I really appreciated her grading policy; she tells you ahead of time how many points you need for each grade, then you work to get the grade you want. Not an "easy class", due mainly to the workload (quite a lot of you want an A), but she presents the material in an easy to understand format. Great course overall!!

Elizabeth Barkley rocks. She's awesome, easy, helpful and NICE. Easy A, she will help you get an A,she will also push you towards an A, if you're pretty close.

Good teacher, very solid about spelling out what she expects. As a very advanced music student I found some of her stuff to be over-simplified. Asking "who invented the blues?" really isn't as simple as blurting out one name. But than again I was way advanced to take this class, and had to fill an "intercultrual" requirement.

This was a great class. Although she only taught a few of the subjects this was one of the best classes I've taken at Foothill. The class is super easy and all you do is take notes and listen to music and talk about it. Easiest A I have ever gotten. But that should not be the reason you take her class because it is really interesting and fun. Professor Hartwell also is great in this class

It was a great class and she's a great Prof. It was more work than I thought, but she was very clear about expectations. I highly recommend this class to meet the GE Requirement!

You will get EXACTLY the grade you want/work for in her class. Literally. She operates on a cummulative point system, so you can stop when you are happy with your grade. A lot more work than I expected from a music class, but relatively easy work. A great class if you want just want to fufill your art req.

Best teacher ever!!!! Offers you a lot of ways to earn extra credit and make up quizzes in case you didn't get the chance to take it. You learn in this class. Easy A.

Great teacher! She's very open to allowing you to get the grade you want to work for through offering many opportunities to earn points. I learned a lot from the class and am taking another one this next quarter from her.

Very easy. Just do the work and you'll get an A. It goes by points and when you are satisfied with the points you have you can stop going to class. Best part is, there is no Final Exam in the class.

Absolutely wonderful! Work a little to get points both in class and online. Go to her class and enjoy watching her as she plays the piano (from memory)-she is superb. She is very pretty and has such a beautiful voice. She plays a lot of instruments. Her class is vibrant and makes you forget the hard classes for a change. No regrets take her class.

I learned so much more in this class than I expected! The instructor is great and very personable, even through an online course. The lectures and online materials are very well organized, although a little confusing at first. Easy A if you keep up with all the reading and homework. Material is easy and entertaining!

Her grading scheme makes it entirely possible for every student to get an A. Lots of enthusiasm for and knowledge of subject matter. The on-campus lectures are very entertaining. Very pleasant with students. Very good as a lecturer, but maybe not as good as Hartwell. Her class meets a lot of ethnic studies and arts requirements at UC campuses.

I took MUS 8 in the summer and although you have to stay of top of the material (about 3-5 short chapters a week), you can earn an A if you really want to. This course will keep you busy enough to learn, but stress free enough to be glad you took it. I highly recommend her. I'm at Berkeley now and knocked out the AC requirement with this course.

She make me understand the American culture through the music. Very passionate about music. I took the class for General Education purpose, but she got me interested in learning American History through music. I loved the class!!!

ONLINE COURSE: Very easy, completely quiz based. Follows the book very strictly, and the course is very flexible. The course can be completed within a week with an A (possibly a night if you tried really hard). She's available at all times, and is a very fair class.

Didn't realize how interested in music I could be until I took this course. Great organization, content, and structure; best online class I've taken yet!

This was a great class and I found it to be very insightful. I didn't think that I would be as interested as I was, but this class proved me wrong. I never had any trouble contacting the professors and if I had any questions regarding my grade they were there to answer asap.This class requires a lot of reading and studying to keep up your grade.

I took this class all online and found it to be very interesting. It is set up so that anyone can get the grade he/she desires. It's up to the student to put forth the effort, because the whole course is laid out so clearly. I wish I could have gone to some lectures, because the context of the course is so compelling.

This class was great. It is taught online as well as in class. I realy recomend going to class, It's based on a point system. You will learn something the first day you go. It wraps up early to give you a chance to finish your finals withought stress. You have many diffrent instuctors and moves flawlessly.

I just finished this online course and could not be happier with how clearly the material was presented and how much I learned! Prof. Barkley offers her students a wealth of information and has set up the course so that anyone can earn the grade they want, at their own pace. Great class...highly recommend!!!

Ms. Barkley is a great teacher and the class was literally a breeze, that is of course as long as you completed the homework.

Dr. Barkley is fantastic. You definitely have to spend some time in the assignments, but there are a dozen different ways to get an A in this class and it's basically at your own speed with only 3 real deadlines. Good stuff for someone splitting time between school and a full-time job!

She is very enthusiastic about music and it shows! She wants her students to succeed and will make every effort to make sure they do, as long as they are honest, hard-working students. She is a fair grader, honest and forthright. The class itself is interesting; the quizzes are not as easy as they may seem, so be sure you know your reading!

Totally awesome online multicultural music class. Take it!! If you can't make it in this class, you should just give up on college ha.

Take the online class. It is easier than you think! She gives you lots of different types of assignments with a 4000 point possibility. To get an a in the class you only need 2000 points. you get to choose the types of assignments you want to do. its not hard at all.

Entire music team at Foothill seems great. Multicultural Music (meets GE multicultural requirement) is a very complex subject, but it's presented amazingly well. Interesting, many options for obtaining desired grade, would highly recommend.

Fabulous. This class is in a different league from other gen ed classes I've taken in terms of how much I learned, helpfulness of the teachers, and how the student controls their grade. Plus I saw Dr. Barkley perform in the faculty recital - she was absolutely awesome.

Took this class during the summer. I especially loved the Rock 'n' Roll section. It felt good to finish early (the class is set up so you can do that if you work hard) and to learn so much in a short amount of time. I plan to keep the textbook to look back on so I can remember what happened during each music era.

I enrolled in her online class. She really help you to get an A! We just need to find all the module exercise from the books and do the essay or group discussions which you can choose by yourself. Just combine every assignment as you wish to get an A! Its really not a difficult class as long as you willing to spend your time with the assignment.

I truly learned a lot from this course. Quite frankly, it made me see far beyond music through a very diversified and extremely maleable context of ever changing evolution. It is amazing to actually understand how such genres came to be and some of the difficult changes music went through to be where it is today. A wonderful class.

Prof Barkley is one of my all-time favorites. I've taken MUS 8, 2A-2C with her. She is extremely helpful and has written a glowing recommendation for me. I am forever grateful to her. Her online classes might be some of the most engaging classes out there. PERIOD. If you haven't taken her, DO SO! You won't regret it! Simply an amazing human being!

I'd like to comment on posts saying that these music classes are "super-easy". They are-but that is because of the superb quality of the instructors who put the courses together. You will learn as much (actually probably more) as you would in a "harder" class, but everything here is streamlined and well planned which avoids wasted time/hassle.

The lessons were insightful and thought provoking and all the assignments stimulating and fun. I was bummed when it was over.

I loved this class! The best part is that you really choose your grade in the class by how much effort you put into it. Attending class boosts the grade and it is really an informative class. You could even be done in the class early if you are up to it.

This was my first online class and I was a bit apprehensive about it, but I had no need to be. Everything was straight forward and everything was spelled out on how to obtain the grade you desire. The class was amazing and I appreciated all of the time and effort she put into it and for making it so insightful.

She is absolutely amazing! I just finished my two summer classes online (2D and Music008) and I have to say. I am very impressed. I've never had more fun while learning so much about music at the same time!

Online class is not so easy when there aren't any online modules and you have to actually read the textbook. :) You must do at least one optional assignment if you want to secure an A. Overall, very nice class and I had a positive experience with Prof. Barkley. By the way, I find her really attractive, maybe I'm into older women?

Music of Multicultural America. She WROTE the textbook. Great class, really easy and enjoyable. You have a wide range of ways to earn points and you may complete assignments at your own pace. Show up, relax, participate, work at your own pace, and you'll do as well as you want to do. The class is taught by three professors, all of whom are terrific

This is the first on-line class I've taken and I was really pleased with the flexibility not just in how I could use my time, but also the point method for grading. I'm sure not all classes lend themselves to this but it was definitely a great experience.

This class was absolutely wonderful and I did not regret one part of it. I'd highly recommend this to a friend. Dr. Barkley deserves some kind of *sash.*

Took this online class and must say, professor is amazing. Very straight forward and easy class and you get a lot of knowledge about music! all the assignments and quizzes are opened from the first day so you can plow right through them and finish the entire course in two weeks! No midterm and an optional final! :]

Great and easy class. She gives you like half of the points for free, the rest depends on your essay/ concert report throughout the quarter. Not easy for slackers, but very easy for those who want to learn a lil' bit

I learned more in two months in this class than in more than 3 months in other classes. She has created a unique and one of the best teaching methods I have ever seen. I am glad I signed up for this class. I read a lot of good feedback and comments before taking the class and now I agree with all of them. She is one of the top professors.

A very interesting and informative class. It is one thing to work in the industry and to be passionate about music but to actually learn the history of where it all came from and how it has grown has been amazing.

Dr. Barkley is a great teacher!!! I took her Music 8 class online, she opens all the assignments up for you to do at your own pace, I actually finished the class very early. Once you earn the points you want for the grade you desire, you're done. Take her class, you won't regret it!

This class is an really easy B which I got but you have to do some writing assignments along with all the tests to get an A so it does take some effort to get an A but it was a great class and Dr. Barkley is one great and hot professor!!

It would be foolish to not take this class. Dr. Barkley is super friendly and helpful. The entire course is open from day one, so you can earn all the points you want to receive and then you don't have to worry about the class again. The textbook is interactive so it made learning the material very enjoyable.

This class was taught by multiple professors. The online content had a lot of errors, so everyones grade got inflated. I thought the textbook work was tedious, but it is great if you want a boost for your GPA. Also, Prof Hartwell is the nicest person you'll ever meet!

I have taken every course she teaches, I have enjoyed her classes so much. The attention and support she gives her students is incredible and appreciated.

I love the format of this class. I keep a tally sheet and it's fun watching the points add up. I also have a column showing how many more points I need to get to an A or A+. It's really very interesting psychologically. I haven't had a class like this before and I like finding out what its like to learn without stress or pressure.

I loved this class. I was pleasantly surprised how flexible it was. I got an understanding of how music was created and transformed in my culture and it also helped me understand who I am and where so many other people have come from and how America developed. I think she is one of the teachers who makes the stressful college experience relaxing.

Started with her class after not being in college for 17 years. It was also my first online class and I was very nervous. Her course was well structured and super organized. So I took all her classes because once I figured out how she sets up the class, I learned I could power through and finish in a week. Great system to balance my other classes.

Great class! It was extremely easy, but informative at the same time. There was a lot of extra credit, and the assignments and quizzes were very simple. I powered through the class in two weeks because all of the assignments were opened in the first week. I highly recommend taking this class, especially if you need an easy elective.

Have taken all her classes. This was first one, and although it was confusing at first because it's so different, once I figured it out I loved it. She uses a system that let's you control stuff, and if you want to learn, its all there. If you don't care but are trying to get a good grade, everything is clear so you can do it. Great teacher.

The grading scale and teaching style is greatly appreciated and respectable. The material and coursework is genuinely interesting and I truly got alot out of it. The music samples were great and added some variety to the music I already listen to. I would surely recommend this class.

The best and easiest class ever. You will get an A or even A+ when you finish all the work on time. Materials are easy. Quiz, journal, and discussion are easy. Extra credit helps. The final is optional, and you don't really need it. I have taken 3 classes with this Prof, I have never done the final, but I got A+.

I found this class to be very clear, easy to understand, and very interesting. I also appreciated her taking the time to answer all the questions I had, and helping me figure out what I needed to do to catch up when I fell behind due to getting my computer stolen. I plan to take other classes with her in the future.

Her online music class is absolutely amazing. The easiest class ever but you'll also learn a lot. I think it makes sense to make the class easy because the easiness would encourage and motivate students to study more. Everybody should take her class. You won't regret it. This class is also recommended for non-native English speakers.

I took her online course, and honestly, best music teacher ever. Really easy to get an A as long as you do your work. Best of all is how approachable she is. She's absolutely fantastic, would highly recommend. Also Music 2D is a great and relaxing GE class for any science or math majors.

This class was the most organized and well structured online class that I've taken so far, and it actually taught something of interesting value - rather than regurgitated facts that are in most other subjects' online courses.

Really enjoyed this online class and the textbook, it took learning to a whole different level. I actually was able to bring things that I learned with me to conversations outside the class and say, "I learned that in my music class." I could only imagine how much better it would have been face-to-face.

As a student it can sometimes be frustrating with how vastly different online courses can be structured and maintained. I've had some superb ones, but also some pretty awful ones. This one falls in the first category. She and the instructional team have really thought about every aspect of the courses and how they appear to students.

Easiest class you will ever take in college. The good thing about this class is everything open book, its self paced, the final is optional, and there are A LOT of bonus points and EC. If you try it is impossible to get anything below an A-. On the con side, you can not turn in anything late. Also, all her directions are hard to follow.

I just finished up this music class. The course was based on a 4 week quarter. It was very fast paced, but very doable. She has a very clear grading criteria. She also offers a looooot of extra credit, so getting an A is easy! The readings are sometimes long, but all very interesting. I would definitely take her again.

This is literally the easiest class you'll ever take in college. There is a ton of extra credit given, and plenty of time to complete the assignments. Although I took the condensed 4 week version of the course, I finished the class in about a week. The professors always great to answer their emails within an hour or two.

I learned a lot from this class! Interestingly, my mindset was, "Ugh, it's a required class. Let's just get it over with!" To my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed the class and learned so much from it. I really liked the way she structured it.

I went in for a GE and came out with a rediscovered passion for music. this was my first online course, and I could not be more pleased.

I LOVED this course with Prof. Barkely! It made learning about music a lot more interesting. A super easy course with very little work. Barkley really cares about the students and their grades. All the quizzes and the final are really easy. I would definitely take this class again. In fact, I just signed up to take another class with Barkely!

I love her classes. This is the third class I've taken because they are so well organized and it is clear what you need to do. I keep learning new things and plan to finish the whole series of courses that she offers so I can get the certificate.

A great experience. Her online music courses are the best courses that I've taken so far. It isn't about the grades, but the way how I feel it is just the best. The grading system, the Student-Professor interaction, the flexible-system, etc. they are the best. Hopefully other students will appreciate the system as much as I did.

The textbook is a good resource if you want to use it, but the class is passable with little background knowledge and little reading.

I took MUS2D & MUS08 with Dr. Barkley. She's one of the sweetest professors ever. Both classes are self-paced so you can get ahead & finish early. If you're happy with your grade, you don't have to take the final & it won't affect you at all. Dr. Barkley wants her students to succeed. She offers a lot of extra credit. I'd definitely take her again!

She is an amazing professor that has a fair grading criteria. As long as you put in the minimum work she asks for, you WILL get an A! She offers a lot of extra credit and is extremely giving! I spent no more than an hour on assignments due each week. Best class ever! Would definitely retake, easy A if youre willing to put in the work! I recommend!

Dr. Barkley is amazing. The entire music series taught by Dr. Barkley and Dr. Hartwell are all very straightforward and easy to navigate. Classes consist of 3 writing portions for each chapter and 1 x 20 question quiz. I love the music samples and the ability to work ahead. Assignments due each week.

Shes is the sweetest teacher ever. She hands out a ridiculous amount of extra credit it is impossible to fail, heck its impossible to get a grade under a B. You just really have to stay on top of your homework because theres no turning in your homework late but the homework is so easy. If you need anything shell respond quickly. Take it!!!!

Elizabeth is truly a great professor. I honestly recommend this class not only because it's a easy class but also because the professor is truly caring. Since the first day till the end of the class she was always on top of my emails. Every time I had a question/concern she will quickly answer back that same day. She is the best, flexible, & caring

Awesome professor and a very easy but informative GE class! I loved taking the hybrid Music 8H. I would recommend this class to everyone -- I still remember what we learned and utilize it in everyday conversation about music with my friends. My music taste was definitely diversified as well.

I had a positive experience with Professor Barkley taking this online music class. I appreciated the attention put into the course structure. I found chapters well paced; quiz structure consistent still allowing for review of the chapter material; ability to complete assignments with enough points to not have to take final. Took Professor Barkley's online Music 2D class as a fun, low effort GE requirement. She responds to emails really fast and is super caring and understanding. I would definitely take another class of hers. If you want an easy A in a fun, interesting class where you can actually learn something, this class is definitely for you!

SELF PACED CLASS. If you're willing to sacrifice an entire weekend grinding the course materials on the online textbook, you can finish the entire course and not worry about it for the rest of the quarter. Final is optional too. Recommend!!! Also fulfills American Cultures requirement.

I finished this class in one week with an A+ and did not have to take the final. You can work at your own pace and there are a ton of extra credit opportunities. Great class to take for GE especially if you have other harder classes to take.

I took 2C and the class was fun. You learn a lot about music and you can through pretty easily in the class. As long as you do everything, you will get an A.

Dr. Barkley was an AMAZING professor. She replied promptly and included detailed explanations to questions I had. She's very patient and not to mention SUPER kind. This class was a relatively light and enjoyable one, so I'd totally recommend taking her class!

While she loves music, and you can tell. She cares about students even more. Make sure you interact with her, not to be on her good side, but to get answers. Take her class and you are automatically on her good side. If you want to learn about the history of music, she is the teacher.

Class is self-paced and is the easiest course I have ever gotten to take. You get extra credit if you take other music classes, so go for the certificate in music since each class is progressively easier than the last. Straightforward cutoff for each grade.

Dr. Barkley is an amazing professor. She gave great feedback and she and Professor Milissa Carey made the course so much fun. I had a blast in their class and I would recommend it to anyone. I'm sad she retired.

Dr. Barkley is one of the best professors ever. I had her in Music 2D in Fall 2020 and she was caring, kind, and always wanted to help her students. The world needs more professors like her.
