The class is VERY textbook heavy, simply because you have to read to know the material. There are some surprise clicker questions every now and then, but I wouldn't say that lectures are necessary if you study well on your own. She talks a lot.. like runs out of time because she rambles and shows crash course videos at the beginning of class.
There are 3 tests and one final. The only "assignments" are clicker questions (you don't need to get them right) and discussion attendance. If you go to lecture and review a for a few hours before the test, you will get a good grade. Non-biology majors might have difficulty, but this is by far the easiest intro biology teacher. Highly recommended!
Dr. Bradbury is an amazing biology teacher in compare to all other! She is really enthusiastic about bio and really kind to all of her students. Once in a while gives squarecap questions for attendance/participation. Test are really easy compared to all of the other biology teachers also gives bonus. Take if you want an A in bio! No hw!
Dr. Bradbury really knows her stuff- the one downfall about this: she expects you to really know your stuff as well. This isn't an issue though if you have good work ethic. My best grades have come from writing/printing the lecture notes prior to class, so I could write everything she says down in class. Not an easy A, but worth it! Read textbook!!
Dr. Bradbury is really passionate about biology and that shows in her class. Class may be more difficult if you don't have a biology background, like in high school. Reading the textbook is the difference between a B and an A in her class. No homework so pretty chill. Doesn't make you feel dumb for any questions.
Dr. Bradbury is honestly the nicest and funniest professor I've had but this class was killer. If you went in having a good background in bio then you probably won't have any problem but if you know nothing this class can get a tad difficult. If you put the work in and really study the class can be managed.
Take this class if you have a really strong background of biology. Dr Bradbury is a nice professor, but her style of teaching style is confusing most of the times. Some of her TAs are irresponsible and unprofessional, such as flexing muscles and cursing in class. (Hard to believe) You basically have to teach yourself as her lectures are too broad
Dr. Bradbury is a nice, young professor. Unfortunately, her lectures are a bit hard to follow and very quick. There isn't homework which for me made studying a little difficult. Overall her tests were not super difficult, but it could sometimes be hard to get an A. I like her, but I would definitely prefer the other professors
Bradbury is a young professor and teaches a difficult class. No matter what professor you have for BIO311C, it wont be an easy A unless you have a great background in bio already. Bradbury is a slightly above-average but terrific professor. The PowerPoint slides, Learning Objectives, and textbook are important for studying for the test.
This semester was her first time teaching an intro level biology class and I think she did a fine job. Of course, if you don't have at least some background knowledge of biology, this class is going to be difficult, but to me it was easy breezy. She's very energetic and passionate about teaching and her focus (plants).
She's hysterical and her class is easily passable. I have friends who took a lot of AP Bio who barely have to think to get A's, but as someone who doesn't have a huge Bio background, I definitely had to work for my grade. Her tests could be way harder if she wanted them to be. You only need to read the textbook if you want A's.
Dr. Bradbury is truly the best professor I have ever had. If you are a student with a disability TAKE HER!! She adapts the classroom and makes sure you have everything to succeed! In addition, I have never met a more caring professor in my years as a university student. Her teaching style can be fast-paced at first but not hard to undertsand !
The people who get A's are people with strong Biology backgrounds in HS. She reads straight off the slides and they are pretty unhelpful, to learn you either have to go to a TA or read the textbook. She also doesnt let you take notes when looking over past test. If you aren't strong in bio then switch
I love Dr. Bradbury. She is funny and passionate about teaching! She is available if you need to speak with her about questions or other things. She does "assign" a textbook and following readings, but there is no grade associated with it, it is more of an extra resource with maybe 1 question on the test. There is no homework. Overall a great class
This class was awful. If you didnt take AP bio in high school youre screwed. Her lectures are unclear, and the textbook gives way more detail than you actually need to know. Plus the TAs were not helpful at all. If you actually want to learn do not take Bradburys class!!
I was excited to have Dr. B at the beginning of the semester as she seemed like she was going to be a great professor. However, her lectures were not at all helpful and her tests were super specific. You had to teach yourself everything/ read the textbook to do somewhat decent in the class. She makes information very confusing and is unorganized.
Don't get me wrong Dr. Bradbury is a very sweet person, but lectures were very broad/unorganized and then the tests were always SO specific. I was successful in Bio AP in high school and struggled a lot in this class even while putting in A LOT of work. Reading the textbook doesn't even help and she provides little to no resources to succeed.
No homework. No resources to study. Textbook is too in depth compared to lecture. Very sweet woman, but she literally told us she hadn't taken intro Bio since SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL. So, if you want a teacher who reads straight off of the powerpoint and then tests over different things, take her! If you didn't take AP Bio in HS, good luck.
Attendance taken through clicker question during lecture. Test are VERY lecture heavy, but NOT hard if you pay attention to the details during lecture. Go to her office hours. Do all the learning objectives. Don't bother with the book unless you need something clarified. You get as much as you put in for this class. Final was trash though.
Overall a nice, generous professor. I took on level BIO freshman year of high school so this class was difficult for me. Her lectures are very broad and don't really reflect the tests, as her tests are super detailed and specific. I regret not reading the textbook as much. Clicker questions make class mandatory and are easy points. Final was hard.
Your entire grade is basically dependent on the exams. The final will replace your lowest exam score, but she won't tell you until after you take your last exam before the final and sometimes she won't even do that. Final took all of the most missed concepts and put them into one test. Had a B until going into the final. Definitely better options
It's not an easy A, but its doable. Lectures are fast paced and can become disorganized so reading the book is very important. Best way to ace the tests is to outline the chapters, attend every lecture and take notes, and do all the discussion assignments . The final is very difficult and does not really cover material that was on previous tests
TAs grade FRQ on tests, so one student's A is another's F, as evidenced by the final. Brilliant botanist, terrible Intro Bio professor. Easy if you took AP Bio, but she rambles in class and is often late, and her tests are over textbook stuff only. Only time her lecture notes showed on test was on final, and it was on a music video no one watched.
She would not give students their tests back or let them take pictures or notes of their tests, but she posted pictures of scantrons with just the answers bubbled in and no actual test questions to study for the final! How is just posting a bubbled scantron with no test questions to reference supposed to help students study for a final exam?!?!?
Syllabus: 300 (3 exams) + 125 (final) + 100 (squarecap, discussion attendance) // 625 pts. Exams are pretty easy with around 5 pts EC in each (albeit with occasionally confusing wording.) Final was sorta cancerous but, once again, completely study-able. Just watch crash course, understand the big picture concepts, and you'll be perfectly fine. Gl!
She is nice and very passionate about bio, but maybe a little too much. My tip is to record her lectures (she gave us permission but didnt mention it until December). Most frustrating was the lack of resources... no homework, quizzes, study guides; no idea what to expect on exams... especially the final! Very confusing compilation of material...
I wanted to like this class, but Bradbury made that hard. Her lectures and her powerpoints are confusing and hard to follow, as she is very disorganized. No matter how hard I studied for her tests, I kept making Bs because even though I knew the material the wording of her questions was very confusing. She made me hate bio and dread going to class.
Dr. Bradbury wasn't terribly organized but she was enthusiastic and you could tell she cared. You had to have your stuff together in order to do well, and even with a 4 on AP Bio I still had to study and take textbook notes to get As on tests.
Bradbury is a great person and seems like a compassionate woman who loves biology. Theres 3 tests, discussion grades and square cap questions and a final. Everything was fine until the ridiculously hard final for an intro bio in which the class average was a 70 and she had no sympathy whatsoever. I would try to do well on tests so you have cushion.
Dr. B isn't horrible, she just writes some confusing questions on her tests that are meant to trick you. I think the reason why everyone did bad on the final was because she wrote some really bad questions. Other than that, just study the textbook because her slides are surface level and you should do fine.
The test are tough but fair. Need to study a combination of her powerpoint slides and the textbook in order to do well. The final was tough and screwed everyone over because the difficulty of the multiple choice was magnitudes more cancerous than the other test. She is better than most because she is caring and has cheesy jokes.
Take Dr. B if you have a good foundation in bio. Tests are fair and based on the slides and lecture. Def don't need to read the textbook to pass. GO TO OFFICE HOURS B4 TESTS, countless times she gave hints and said questions verbatim. The final was rough, tricky, but doable. An A is possible but ppl take this class too easy since its in intro class
Dr. B has an great personality & is fun to be around. Lectures were bearable, but she goes really fast so you can't process anything. Several of her exams were bad representations of that unit, especially the final exam. She's a really sweet lady, but I wouldn't recommend her. Getting a bad grade because of a poorly written test is really sucky.
Very hard to succeed if don't have AP Bio background. She often googled student's questions during lecture and I often left class not learning a single thing, forcing me to self teach through the textbook and crash course. Tests were manageable, but the final was INSANE (failed it miserably despite A's and B's on every test)
You can tell how much Bradbury enjoys biology. Her lectures are usually pretty engaging. Studying for tests is time-consuming but just go by the learning objectives for each unit. Discussion sections are pretty pointless but mandatory attendance; pray you get a good TA. The final was much harder than the midterms, so make sure you really study.
Unless you have a strong bio background this class is tough. Only graded on 3 test and final. Test were hard but fair, screwed us over on the final had things we never learned. Lectures are unhelpful and she rambles off topic which cuts into class time. Doesnt let you take notes when looking over previous test. If you didnt take ap bio get out
I found myself really struggling until I started voice recording her lectures, transcribing the recordings, and studying those notes!! When I studied like this, my next test went up 25 pts!! REALLY makes you work for a good grade, but I learned a lot and she made lecture fun and interesting. Clearly cares about biology and her students.
Overall, Bradbury's class wasn't bad. Lectures weren't the most interesting, but majority of info was in powerpoints which were online. Sometimes she'll spit out little things that end up being on the exams. Grades in the class were 3 exams, a final, and sporadic clicker questions for attendance. She offered extra cred on every exam.
I really enjoyed Dr. Bradbury's class. She's extremely sweet and a very entertaining lecturer, and is clearly very passionate about what she does. Her lectures were at times a bit hard to keep up with so if you're not the greatest at biology, like I admit I was, it may not be the best fit for you. Final exam was extremely hard.
Dr. Bradbury is very smart and very enthusiasric when teaching the course. You can tell she enjoys talking about biology and I really enjoy her lectures. The tests can be a bit hard, but you should do okay if you study. Her lectures do require the app Squarecap, so if you don't want to pay for an app don't take her, though.
I really enjoyed Dr. B's class! She is a really sweet lady. Her lectures are powerpoint based, often accompanied by a crash course video before hand. Although I found it hard to follow some of her lectures, I would frequent her office hours. If you take her, GO TO OFFICE HOURS!! They are super helpful and she'll often give you exam questions!!
She seemed like she would be a good professor but was horrible. She couldn't lecture well and her material did not line up with the textbook. He tests were extremely hard and specific. Her final was the hardest test I've ever taken in my life and brought my grade down significantly.
Although shes a very enthusiastic and caring professor, she is not the best exam writer. Her exams are not representative of the material that is taught in class and she often has lots of questions that are meant to trick you. The second exam was extremely hard and the average was 11 points lower than the other two exams and she didnt curve it.
Dr B is my favorite professor I have taken at UT. Super funny, personable, and very VERY knowledgeable about plants! I was worried about this class and had no interest in plants, but she made it so fun and was so enthusiastic it was hard NOT to learn in her class. TAKE ADVANCED PLANT ANATOMY AND LAB IF YOU WANT TO ENJOY UD BIOS
Bradbury is super sweet, but honestly, I learned more from the book. She teaches biology like we should already know it; it is introduction to biology not biology for grad students. I love her personality, but not big fan of the class.
She just stands there and teaches from a powerpoint, can get boring at times. Definitely need to read the text book, even tho she doesnt require you to get it, but she will give you a link to it. She is also very available to students. BONUS she takes off a week to protest climate change, all of thanksgiving break, and the day after halloween
Dr. B is such a sweet, bubbly woman and is the best professor to take for genetics. Her tests are called "quizzams" and they are not too difficult if you put in the effort. Also go to her office hours, she is so personable and will answer any questions. Her slides aren't that detailed, so going to class and taking notes is in your best interest
Honestly, I think the only reason I did somewhat well in this class is because I took AP Bio last year. Bradbury has a great personality and she is very passionate but she rushes through lectures and her tests wouldn't be so hard if she just told us what she expects us to know. It's hard studying for her final with no reviews, or even past tests.
Dr. Bradbury was one of my favorite professors. She is very energetic, fun, and knowledgable about genetics. Tests were 100% based off of lectures, as there were very few assignments outside of class. The one thing you must do in her class is go to lectures. She provides the slides but they're useless unless you write down what she said in class.
Dr. Bradbury is a very kind prof. and will work with you if you are struggling. It might be difficult to schedule time with her because she teaches two different courses. Her exams are very lecture based. You must attend discussion in order to pass this class. She's passionate about genetics which helps make the class manageable.
To get an A, attend lectures to answer tophat questions, go to discussion, read the book or skim b4 test/, slides are very useful, DO LEARNING OBJECTIVES (this makes midterms so much easier)!!! She also has bonus questions on her exams for extra credit--do those! Go to her office hours B4 exams! Not too much work outside of class. Don't get lazy!
Bradbury is very passionate and nice (her first time teaching it tho). You'll be very lost if you skip class/discussion. Grading was very unclear, and in the end, attendance grades from certain discussion days played a HUGE part in your final grade... and I happened to miss those ones. Class would've been an easy A- if I tried harder.
There are 4 exams, a final, and Dr. B will ask questions during lecture on TopHat for points sometimes! This class is definitely not an easy A you will need to study (especially for the exams) but the TA's are really helpful and they want you to succeed. They even hold q&a sessions the night before the exam. Attend office hours if you can too!
I wouldn't recommend taking Dr. Bradbury. She teaches the class as if you have already taken intro to bio. Her lectures and the way she organizes her slides are really confusing for note taking which makes them hard to follow, and I always had to reorganize my notes after class. Good luck figuring out what's going on.
Bradbury is a good professor and lectures well. I did most my work outside class however but listening to the lectures helped clear things up. She does questions of the day randomly and missing a few of them stopped me from getting an A in the class. So go to class.
CONS: Attendance mandatory if you want a good grade, confusing and fast-paced teaching style, no extra credit, there IS a final, you must STUDY STUDY STUDY to get the grade you want PROS: Extremely sweet, genuinely wants you to learn, overall a very lovely person who loves biology!
Dr. B made biology so easy to understand! She really makes sure to understand her students concerns and work with them. This is what makes her such a good professor because she actually cares for her students and makes the material easy enough for us to learn. Discussions aren't as good, TA's aren't a big help. Take Dr.B!!
She's a kind person, but not the best teacher. She taught huge sections of material at a time and never brought them up again. People in other bio courses said they were learning about 1/3 of the material in one class than we were. There are 2 hard tests and the class averages were failing, yet she offered no extra credit
Dr. Bradburry has to be the best Bio professor I have taken so far at UT. She genuinely cares about all of her students and actually accommodated us by postponing our exam day due to having an ochem exam the day before. In-class questions, hw, and discussions are completion based for the most part, and exams are based solely around the lectures
Professor Bradbury is such a sweet person... However, she's a pretty horrible genetics professor. Her lectures are useless as she goes on irrelevant tangents during each one. If you want to be proactive and read the textbook, even that is difficult because the reading schedule is never updated. An A is possible, but get ready to teach yourself.
She is likeable, but a terrible professor. Her grading is super specific and she will take away some or all credit on the free-response exams if you answer the question correctly, but not how she envisioned you answering it. So you can know the material and answer objectively correct, but if she doesn't like exactly how you answered, no credit.
Dr. B is incredibly caring and willing to accommodate the needs of students. In terms of the exams, they are fully LECTURE-based. They are roughly 60 percent free response and 40 percent multiple choice (the grading for the free response can be a bit harsh). Overall though, an A is very doable if you attend lecture/discussion and put in the work.
Dr. Bradbury was a great Genetics Professor. She has a very clear set of "learning objectives" for every exam and if you study to those specifically, you will get As on her exams. Even though for Fall 2021 the course was mostly online, you do have to attend all lectures because there are pop-up questions during class which are participation points.
A solid choice for genetics. Exams are a mix of multiple-choice and free-response questions. Work fast because exams are given on a time crunch (50 mins only)! Class attendance is mandatory due to in-class questions, which are graded on both participation and accuracy. Plus side is grade is supplemented with pre-class assignments and homework.
Bradbury tries to be cool and hip, but in reality is not as helpful and kind as she tries to appear. She also has a bit of an ego that makes her believe she is a much better prof than she actually is. Overall she's disorganized and her lectures are't helpful for the tests, which are graded very harshly. You can know the material and still do bad.
Dr. B's learning objectives are stated clearly in both her textbook and her lectures. The main course grade comes from 6 exams and one final group project, and homework usually consisted of chapters in her textbook. Dr. B. was really nice and accessible during her scheduled office hours. I would definitely take a course with her again.
Dr. Bradburry is a great lecturer. She is very clear with her material, but there is a lot to retain. She does pre/post class assignments to deeper the understanding of the content. Make sure to pay attention to what she is saying about the material as it is not always on the slides. Her exams are application based, so study and you should be fine.
She is very sweet, & makes it very easy to make up missed assignments. However, I was always lost, lectures were unorganized & I felt like she forgot it was an intro class. I always had to rewatch every lecture/video to reorganize my notes. There were pre & post assignments for each lecture, & she used TopHat which is terrible.
Course was online at the University of Wisconsin. Canvas page was disorganized. Quizzes often had errors/glitches. Most lectures were by other lecturers, NOT Dr. Bradbury. Assignments seemed to be recycled from other classes, covering things not taught in lecture. Frankly, it seemed that Dr. B was a bit lazy in designing and running this course.
Bradbury is very passionate in what she teaches. The quizzes are not easy but it does not cover anything that she does not go over in class. She is also happy to answer any questions not matter how dumb you think the question is. This was my second time taking Bio311c and I learned so much more than I did the first time with Partridge.
Her class structure is just terrible. She has pre-class and post-class assignments, which I found to be very unhelpful. Amoeba sisters? really? They seldom related to the lecture material. Tends to go off on tangents about irrelevant information. She does not make the material easy to digest. You can know the material and still do bad on her tests.
Dr. Bradbury is super sweet but is a terrible lecturer. She lectures as if she was teaching a doctorate course, not introductory biology. She uses Tophat which can be very confusing to use at times as it is an online platform. Grading is super specific on the biweekly quizzes. TAs carry the class so go to as many discussion sections as you can.
Dr. Bradbury made the lectures super engaging and easy to grasp. Part of the course is on TopHat where we have short 5 question assignments before and after every class. Definitely take this class!
Dr. Bradbury's lectures are fast and can be difficult to follow, but she is overall a pretty chill professor. A lot of your grade comes from just completing assignments and participating in lectures, so it's not too hard to get an A. If you took AP Bio in high school, it will definitely help, but this class is still manageable if you didn't.
Dr. Bradbury is very passionate about what she teaches and I enjoyed her lectures, however, I did not appreciate the way that quizzes and tests were handled. There would be little to no feedback on exams and the online formatting would count questions incorrect that weren't. Overall an okay course, just not the best grading scale.
There are quizzes every 2-3 weeks. The lectures are dense and fast-paced. She uses topHat so it can be hard to navigate. There are assignments before and after each lecture. Quizzes are taken on Zoom and TopHat which can be distracting. You learn a lot but some background in chemistry or biology helps. It is possible to do well.
Dr. B's class is fun, face-paced, and really educational. My only complaint is the use of TopHat. You have 6 'quizzams' every 2-3 weeks and they're mainly multiple choice and from the lecture session or homework questions. Dr. B is a great lecturer but she goes really fast so be sure to ask questions (she's super approachable). Take this class!!
6 "Quizzams" and a final, which helps your grade. Offers lots of extra credit. Review old questions throughout assignments and lecture because those often show up on the test. Very doable class in my opinion if you study.
Dr. B was a wonderful Bio professor, you can tell how passionate she is about both the subject material and her student's success. The tests consist of 6 "Quizzams" which even if you don't do well on them will average out. For class materials, she primarily uses TopHat and Canvas. She offers a great amount of extra credit!
She uses Top Hat as the main platform for the class, which I liked. There are lecture questions worth points, so you kind of have to attend class. There's homework before/after class, but it's not bad at all. She is very concerned with her student's health and learning comprehension. I learned a lot in her class, I would take it again if I could :)
Dr. Bradbury was an ok professor. Every point matters, so try to get full points on all the homework and attend lectures & pay attention in order to get the in-lecture questions correct too. Even if you aren't doing perfectly, she gives A LOT of extra credit which is nice. The quizzams & final exam are not too hard, take notes & review questions.
Really enjoyed Dr. Bradbury! At first, I was really nervous about this class, but she definitely made it less nerve-racking. Tests are manageable as long as you are using the learning objectives and lectures to study. Overall, Dr. Bradbury is really sweet, and I definitely recommend her as a prof!
Her pre and post class assignments help you to understand the information on a deeper level. Tests are worth a low percentage of your grade so if you do the homework you will pass. She assumes you took AP bio, as someone who didn't I had to study a lot harder than the people in her class who did take AP bio.
Dr B is an overall great professor for this course. Lots of little assignments but all are manageable. Participation is a lot of the grade. "Quizzams" are short but can have difficult questions. Review all lectures and assignments (especially the questions asked in lecture and pre, post, and enrichment activities as they will be reused).
I really liked Bradbury and her method of teaching (a traditional lecture with details, not really too application based) and her Quizzams were fair and all material came from slides and activities on Top Hat. I think she does a good job at really explaining material. Attendance matters. She does offer a fair amount of extra credit.
Dr. Bradbury is seriously the best ever! Some of the bad reviews are from a while ago and she's definitely perfected her teaching. She is the sweetest, funniest, and a great lecturer. I was never very stressed for her class and have an A+. The 6 quizzams meant that I didn't have to study huge amounts of material at a time. Take her if you can.
She is such an amazing professor that cares for her students. You have 7 quizzams, one of them gets averaged out. They aren't a big part of your overall grade so don't worry much but they are timed and proctored by the TA. There are pre and post class every other day that is on quizlet. use office hours to complete in class assignments if missed.
One of the most caring professors I've had. She's willing to work with you if you're having a tough time and can't handle all of the assignments at the moment.
I know Dr. B doesn't teach at UT anymore but she was an astounding professor. So caring and kind and always came in with the best outfits ever. Super great at explaining complicated material. Office hours with her were so great. 6 quizzams that made studying stress-free. I would have taken her for genetics if she was still here.
