She is sooo hard....too much work
Her exams are hard. The average of our final was 68. Too much readings and boring videos. Require a lot of work and luck to get an A. And,she is not a good teacher;doesn't care about students at all. DO NOT TAKE HER./_/
boring class especially towards the end. too much memorizing and no actual material.

her class is one of the more challenging classes at ivc. i really enjoyed it. i learned a LOT! read the material, attend lecture, study hard and you'll get an A! i recommend her.

When asked a question, she would say one thing and do another. Only read off power point and when something is unclear—don’t ask her, she doesn’t know. She is one reason why the 10 year policy needs to be removed.
i honestly think that she is by far the worst teacher at ivc...
whoever posted the comment about attending lecture, take notes, and you'll get an A is an idiot... just don't take her, its as simple as that... her lectures make me want to jump off a bridge...
She is a great teacher. She is clear, nice, helpful, and enthusiastic. All you have to do is study for her class, and you get your A. She is also very nice to chat with, and has lots of good advice to give.
She's the hardest teacher I've ever had. DO NOT TAKE HER. There is too much material to memorize that don't even matter. She'll also avoid answering questions so don't bother asking.

Don't take this class on-line! She scares you, too much work, she tried to trick you on the exams, all this class is memorizing and regurgitating the material back to her. Do not take this class with her!
She is not helpful at all. Doesn't respond to emails or questions. questions on exams are vague and confusing - not sure if she is trying to trick students, or if she is just out-of-it when writing the test. Very unorganized. Don't take her. Wish I hadn't
I took this class on –line. This teacher was confusing and unorganized. She did not respond to my e-mails. It is possible to get an A but hard, you have to read all material, do every assignment and all extra credit, and memorize everything on study gu
Very hard, take it at Saddleback instead.
She gives a lot of homework and reading. she is a little bit fair.
the worst teacher ever. took her on line class, and she doesn't reply to e-mails and gives too much useless hw. don't take her!!!!
She makes you buy like 4 books and you need to be reading ALL of them to do well on her quizzes/tests. Disorganized, even taking notes was hard in this class since she jumps to random things all the time.
Whatever you do, do not take Chambers!! She is not very helpful, goes way too fast in lectures and jumps around with topics, and expects her students to do Ivy League college level thinking and work. She grades hard. Better off taking someone else!
Taking her online class now. Does not respond to emails. I emailed her for help one day, and a few days later I get a reply to ask the other student. A ton of reading and memorization required. The tests require you to remember everything you read.
shhhhh! just dont take her. she is soooo hard and unhelpfull. if you wannna F than take her.
GOt a D because of attendance. Unreasonable and mean teacher. Doesnt seem to like students butloves Marx. Tough teacher to understand on a personal level
very hard teacher~!!
Very disorganized! I do not recommend taking her class.
Hard like everyone else has said....lol sux dont take! i am telling you dont.
Don't take her On-Line classes! In her actual classes, she advises students NOT to take her On-Line classes, due to how much more difficult she makes the curriculum. If you compare her syllabus from her class w/that of her On-Line class, the difference in busywork will blow your mind! It's infuriating!
Very hard! DON'T TAKE!
flat out said you must have a learning diability if you dont do good on my test. she is evil and not helpful 1/2 way through semester and want to drop
very good teaching. also fun and energetic
well for student how speak Enlish as second this class going to be hell. that is all i have about her.do not take her class!!!!
!Es muy deficil! Everyone is getting a C, or failing! I wanted major in Sociology before taking her class, and now I don't. Won't let anyone use the restroom during the final. !Que horror!
If you are looking for an easy class to take, this is NOT it.
Very bright. would recommend staying out of sociology if you want an easy class, however.
Worst class ever!
Good teacher, but doesn't like to answer questions: sarcastic. These folks' comments show that they are lazy. Not a hard class, there's a lot of busy work.
True this class entails more work than others but you're all whiners. She's a good teacher that introduces some interesting facts about human nature. I learned a lot. Make sure to keep up with the reading though. It is good reading, but a lot. Don't miss her lectures either. Weekly quizes too.
2 minutes late to class and won't let you take the quiz. Her way or the highway. Agree with her and you'll do fine.
She's on a power trip about her teaching credentials. She should be behind a desk, not teaching students. Very quick, stern and not easy to approach.
Will not let you take the Final exam if you forget to bring your Camp. ID or Valid Driver's Lics. Difficult class, Must speak english very well. Learned a lot in her class.
This class was the bane of my existence. She teaches by video and never once involved the students in class disscussion. She gives a lot of home work, none of which i learned anything from. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY LEARN SOMETHING! This class isn't hard, its just annoying and pointless.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS...SO HARD ON MID TERM AND FINAL...
very hard class...
Very interesting class.Definately need to read alot and pay attention.Good quality in teaching, but not so approachable.Summer course is too fast there is limited time to absorb everything. If you study + read you'll do well.Overall a great class makes you think alot about the world we live in.
She is such a great teacher. I enjoy her class alot. And for all of you complaining about the work load shes really generous with the ExploreIt exercises those are easy and fun! Really interesting class, alot of reading but much worth the time spent on it!!!!!!
SHE IS CRAZY!!!
She is the worst teacher I have EVER had?EVER! She is not the brightest bulb on the block either. I dropped her class today cuz she is Horrible ?seriously people heed the warning?.
Don?t take her class. She is NOT easy to talk to, Oblivious, and you learn nothing in her class because she is so confusing and you spend all of your time trying to make sense of what she just said!
I liked Dr Chambers she was very personable and made the class very interesting. She used many resources like mulitmedia to help us understand. I really want to be a sociologist now. My world is bigger and clearer.
The kids under me are idiots! Professor Chambers is very knowledgeable and a great teacher. Her class is difficult so be ready to put your effort in. In the end you have a great understanding of sociology. The way I look at it, u get what you put into it, and unfortunately we all have this attitude to get away with doing the least work as possible.
she wants 2 use very bit of the classroom, the overhead projector, power point presentation, textbook, extra readings, videos, websites, blackboard, and data sheets.. just tell me how can u obsorb all of that 4 an exam?? she trys hard 2 make the material interesting, but totally forget what a student can take! & she talks like taching pre-schools!
There is no way she is a good professor. I sit in the class and have no idea what the hell she's talking about. You watch videos and make your own notes. I knew about like 6 things on the mid term and ive missed class like once. She should be involved with special ed.
She is not the worst teacher ever, but she is holding this school down. She speaks to the class as we are in pre-school, she has not read the text she has assigned, and her study guides are incorrect for the tests, her notes do not match BB, and in asking her for readings for on my own and she shrugs her shoulders. Go somewhere else, dont take her.
she does not teach!..all she does is read directly off her powerpoint!...i studied so hard in her class and i got a D!...she is unclear and not very helpful... and might i add, she makes you feel dumb :/
SHE SUUUCKKKSSS she is the worst teacher i have ever had, its sooo damn boring, and she is just a bad teacher, don't take her
This class is pointless if you would like to learn. Anyone can read an article and answer multiple choice ?s for HW. How about a class that actually asks it's student's, "What do you think?" Oh, and did I mention she does not stick to the timeline in the syllabus? Teacher is more equipped for JR High- a PHD means nothing in this case.
I would rather have each one of my toes ripped off one by one then sit in this class two times a week. If you read these posts, go kick rocks on the 5 freeway.
Don't take this honors class in the summer. To cram that much info into 6-8 weeks is pointless. I don't even recomend taking her course in a regular term. She needs to understand that not all of her students aspire to have PhD's in sociology.
She is a NAZI!!!!!! The worst Professor I have ever had. Boring as hell, work load is insane and stupid...she treats her students like brain dead idiots and gives too much busy work. I dropped her class and took it with someone who could teach the course and got an A!!!
THIS HAD TO BE ONE OF MY HARDEST CLASSES TO COMPREHEND BECAUSE SHE SPEAKS TO YOU LIKE YOUR'E IN THE 3RD GRADE I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO WATCH "BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY" OVERALL DONT TAKE HER CLASS

After reading most of the comments on this board about Dr. Chambers, I was very concerned whether I would pass this class. Turned out most of what I read was not that true. Yes she did talk down to her students but she answered all my questions and even though she is extremely tough on grading I managed to do well. You do need to study hard.
I am real suprised that Pro. Chambers has gotten many negative ratings. I enjoyed her class and thought she was a wonderful instructor. She opened me up to sociology. I'll admit, she's tough and takes the job serious. She expects her students to participate, study materials, and put in a lot of effort when completing assignments. She can be harsh.

i love the subject, but she was really unapproachable and even rude. a lot of reading and busy work...the videos are horrible. might as well take it honors cause she makes you work hard for an A
Really knowlegdable on the subject, but not the best teacher avalible at the school. Her classes are kind of boring, just lecutres with powerpoint and videos. A hard grader with tedious work. But fairly easy tests. If you do your work and study for your tests you'll be fine. But if you want an interesting class, try another teacher.
She isn't clear on the homework instructions, so if you don't read her mind and put in the details she wanted, she marks you down. She makes you watch a lot of videos and practically memorize the articles in one of the textbooks. Her exams are fairly easy, she sticks with the study guides. It was an easy class but you have to pay attention
I took her ONLINE Intro to Sociology course. This course is the most difficult sociology course I have ever taken. Particularly due to the way she grades her assignments (or rather the way the TA grades the assignments). I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS PROFESSOR.
Don't waste your time on this teacher, she is no good
she is hard and you have to pay attention or you wont get the stuff. she shows a lot of boring movies as well. not recommended by me.
I've re-taken her course several times and just can't seem to pass. Usually these GE courses are GPA boosters but her course is definitely something else. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER. She is boring and straight by the book. Her class is challenging. GOODLUCK!
ok seriously the comments i read here scared the crap out of me. chambers is definitely not as bad as some of these ppl say... make no mistake there's a LOT of hw (esp so for me cuz i was in the summer session), but if u put in time and effort, she's not bad at all.
Good clarity, but a liitle difficult to keep up with the lectures during a 6-week summer session.
The homework is all easy! You do the information online then write it in your packet. The quizzes were also easy as long as you are reading the reader book. But mid-term was pretty hard but she gives you a study guide of all questions that will be on a test.
She definitely knows her sociology, but doesn't really make an effort to get to know her students. She is a nice person, and the homework is easy...but the tests are really hard. She seems like she uses the same slides and everything every year. Be prepared to take notes.

i got an A in the class &this is what I did: listened to the teacher in class. Plenty of slides but once in a while she will write something on the board. write that down. Essays: be thorough&WRITE A LOT.be thorough and trust me, you will be glad. tests: study the text and pay attention to the study guide. i didnt take any class notes at all. gluck
Wow. I come from a UC and wanted to take a summer class to get units out of the way. This teacher made classes like calculus seem like a joke. She is hard not just because of the work load, but because she is just a lousy teacher. For your own sake, get someone else. Or at least don't take her class in the summer.
Her class is easy if you choose to do the computer work. they're VEEEERRRY easy and self-explanatory. also pay close attention in lectures. they can be interesting and take as much notes as you can. lectures are available online so it helps to print them out before class. she's also got a good sense of humor. good class!!
I don't know where to start...the most awful professor in existence. I wish I did the research on her before I took her class, because now it's too late to drop. She is one of those professors that just work for the heck of it. She doesn't care AT ALL about her students. She doesnt wanna help them or make the class fun for them.
i question her nature. why is she teaching? she doesnt reply to emails, she just assigns busy work, she doesnt care about her students, she doesnt want to help anybody, she wants to fail everyone by assigning ridiculosuly hard tests/hw. just dont take her, she will make you want to move schools. and she loses your hw and tries to trick u on tests.
Not approachable at all! Id advise not to take her course!
chambers class overall was some what hard. the hardest thing for me were the tests. i knew every study guide front and back and i would still get C's on the tests! she would always try to trick you on the tests. if you get to know her she will help you out. i chose the essay route of the class and a lot of people said that the homeworks were easier
A friendly teacher. It's just that her tests are really hard. You have to study every single slide, pay attention to every in-class videos and take notes on every single name that's mentioned in it. But her class itself isn't that tiring, and it never let me get bored. HARD A, but people most likely would pass.
unorganized, poor teaching, hard to follow, unfair with students
She made me hate IVC. I now have nightmares because of her. She is a MONSTER! Does not want to help, does not care about students, essays are EXTREMELY HARD, she is painfully dull, and she is rooting for everyone to fail. I swear, she's el loco.
good teacher, just need to study
Good teacher! You'll learn lots of useful info that can be used later on. Usually nice, but can be a bit cranky when you ask questions. Read the text, pay attention to lecture, and take good notes. Choose the homeworks if you have the $ to buy the book. Use the study guide and text to prepare for exams - plan to spend lots of time studying.
She has her way of doing things and thinking yet there is no clear communication of what her expectations are for how she wants information conveyed. It seems you start off with F and crawl up to better grades. Love Sociology but won't take her classes. Want to learn not be caught w/ what I don't know & made to feel lesser then. TA is the same.
VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. EXPECTS TOO MUCH FOR A INTRODUCTORY SOCIOLOGY COURSE. SHE LIKES TO CONVEY ON THE NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF LIFE RATHER THAN THE POSITIVE. GO YANKEES!
I have already had so many problems with her! She is useless literally. She doesnt help the students out and it takes her weeks to grade something simple. She doesnt convey what info she wants on assignments either! I was even missing a grade on an assignment i did, and she told me it was my fault that its not in the computer. how?! shes unfair
Horrible teacher. Talks a lot so you never really know what's important. Liked her in the beginning but hate her now. Won't help you if you e-mail her. Assignments due every week that are long and completely useless. Gives out study guides for midterms but about two questions are taken from there. Do not recommend her.
The class is very interesting but shes not very clear with what she expects, totally confused me sometimes. Would'nt take her class.
This teacher was very confusing at times. The homework was very LONG and very confusing at first, plus it was 30% of your grade.... Midterms aren't too bad, if you just use the study guide and answer all the questions you should be fine. She was a very nice teacher but very monotone.
She is so horrible its ridiculous. I can't stand her. She doesn't do a good job at teaching at all. She needs to be fired. Her homework is stupid and pointless, doesn't have anything to do with the class. Her tests are hard and the average is always really low. She is stupid.
Really interesting class! Dr. Chambers is a great teacher and is passionate about Sociology! Just pay attention to what she says and you'll do fine. Homework is EASY! Quizzes are easy as well. You defiantly need to devote time to studying for her midterms though, as I found them to be rather difficult. Highly recommended class & teacher!
Worst teacher in the universe. She loves hearing herself speak rather than teaching sociology. Someone needs to really reevaluate her teaching credibility and ability!
Professor Chambers is an excellent teacher, and her class is really fun. Anyone who didn't enjoy this class is probably angry because of their grade. Her tests were straightforward and her homework was easy and fun!
Dr. Chambers has almost no discussion in her class at all. She goes right off her lecture and does very little to help students. I find her misleading and out of date. She should be fired, but she has "connections with the dean." IVC deserves better. Pick another professor.
She talks A LOT. However what she says is pretty clear. Her homework is easy but totally pointless and irrelevant. The tests are hard since they don't go along with the homework or lectures. It's not the end of the world if you get her, but if you have the choice...I'd opt out.
This teacher is beyond horrible ! if you want to take her expect a D. Shes way to hard for beginner sociology. I asked her about my grade before the last day to drop and she didnt even have her grade book!so i stayed and didnt even pass.
I don't know what everyone is complaining about on here, I thought she was a great teacher. I took her class online and unlike other teachers she always responds to emails and phone calls. Mid terms and finals were a little heard but nothing studying a little couldn't fix. This class definitely isn't a free pass but very interesting! Do the work, spend some time and your grade will show it!
she is the worst teacher ever, she never responds to emails.
Her online classes contain a medium amount of busy work and she gives a study guide for both the mid term and the final. If you don't need to be babysat then you'll do fine in the class. If you don't pass this class then you're just lazy. It's straight forward.
She doesn't respond to emails at all, lacks a clear syllabus and on one of the quizes she tested on articles that weren't the assigned ones to be read. I've taken several online classes and she is by far the worst teacher. This subject is pretty much common sense so it's an easy class, but with no clear timeline or communication.
Not much work if you take the online class. It's frustrating sometimes when you e-mail her. She hardly respond.
Please don't take her!! She requires allot of work. Need to read the text, quizzes almost every week , homework on the internet, in class exercises and in class videos which will be used in exams. She has a study guide for the midterms but her exams are hard.Keep your quizzes and grades because she doesn't post the grades.Overall is HARD.
Professor Chambers isn't the beast that these reviews make her out to be. She has high expectations and doesn't babysit (she's teaching college students not highschool kids). She gives quite a bit of homework and there are quizzes every week, but the questions are directly from the homework. Come to class on time, do your work, and you'll do fine.
not an easy A class, don't take it if u want an A. u need to work hard for this class, lectures are boring in my opinion, and power points are pretty descriptive so hard to read it. some extra credits. the reading is interesting but her lectures are just bad.
a great teacher and an interesting class. Don't know what what everybody else is talking about
I was skeptical/uninterested about this class but was forced to repair my transcript. Prof Chambers engages her students and the way she instructs really captivated my attention. NO SURPRISES! I showed up to every class, completed all h/w (majority of points) and ave B on quizes. Didnt even read the Macionis book and enjoyably cruised through.
She really loves sociology and she gets so into it and makes it exciting! There are many quizzes but she gives you the questions ahead of time. There are also homework assignments you do online. There are 2 midterms and one final. She takes attendance. I would recommend her, she was my easiest and most exciting teacher, as long as you do the work.
. I found it very difficult to pay attention in class, there's about 10ish homework assignments that take about an hour, it's typing things into a chart and analyzing the results, kind of a drag, the quizzes weren't that hard if you read the book, the second textbook we used was only for the midterm/final, I still passed with a B
Got an A+. Busy everyday and every second of the class. Lots of assignments, reading and quizzes. Final exam not cumulative. Study guides straight forward. I enjoyed the class, but lots of participation and be attentive to videos because there are in-class quizzes.
Dr. Chambers is clear with her directions and what she expects from her students. The online course is structured very well and is repetitive so it'll be easy to get into the swing of things. Her tests are not too bad if you use the study guide (which has exactly what you need to study for), and she offers a lot of extra credit as well :)
She basically just reads slideshows and randomly shows videos in class. This was a very easy class but you have to study the review guides (THEY GIVE YOU ALL THE ANSWERS) but very easy just a bit dry
She looks like Edna from the Incredibles. Extremely easy class to pass. I got an A+. Just look over the power point slides to study. However, she is super strict on paying attention to her.
I took this class on Fridays for 3 hours. I personally should have reconsidered since I find it hard to pay attention for that long especially in her class. She is so all over the place I couldn't focus. I'm prior military and I was taught to have simple slides, her slides were jumbled and drove me nuts! That's beside the point. 100 question tests.
I didn't like having to go on campus to take the midtermfinal. (Both were hard too.) The way she submits grades on Blackboard was confusing bc not all the assignments were added. A lot of reading. Not a huge fan of her as a prof. Will definitely avoid her in the future. Honestly I didn't learn anything. I wouldn't recommend her.
So hard to pay attention in this class. Very dry and boring. Some video clips were interesting. She was all over the place and wasnt very clear. Wouldn't reccomend at all.
This class was REALLY easy the only bad part about it is she will mark you down if you skip her class and she gives out (easy) quizzes a lot so you HAVE to be there. You can tell she's passionate about sociology however her lectures are really dry (SIT in the back). It is a very easy class to pass you just have to show up and study.
the way she teaches is annoying. she emphasizes the wrong words and talks in circles. also the class was blown into complete chaos after a lecture and students were harassing one another and she never stepped in. and her homework is so time consuming and pointless it doesn't help with anything just a time and paper waster.
There are 3 exams total, non-cumulative. She gives you study guides beforehand which includes everything on the test. I got by without buying the main text book but you need 1 of the books bc there's quizzes every week on articles. Everything she assigns is very straight forward and actually got me interested in sociology!
I agree with what has been said, her lectures are wildly unorganized and unclear. She does not emphasize the material she expects you to know for the tests, she seems to go in circles when she speaks and does not seem organized with where she wants to highlight importance. A LOT of homework and reading, the class is overall time consuming bc of it.
Just do the assignments and readings that are given and it is an easy A. All of her assignment are either for grade or prepares for the test. Study guides had everything that would be on the test and there is extra credit after each exam.
She is very monotoned. She makes you watch a video and gives you an assignment immediately that is due within five minutes. Gone half the semester, everyone preferred the substitute. Literally forgot to add the last quiz score and people lost points for no reason due to her error. Please mercy do not take.
Just overall a weird teacher. Not many tests so there are lots of material on them. Her lectures consist of her reading off power points and watching videos. Is very confusing and doesnt seem to care about the students
Honestly, the worst professor I have had at IVC. She's extremely unclear during lectures and does not emphasize what she expects you to know for her exams. She also assigns a ton of reading and homework that keeps you busy and makes the class way too time consuming. Unless you really need this class for honors credit, don't take this class.
She was okay I mean i got a B, but you have to work for it. She shows lots of videos that you need to pay attention to because they show up on her test. Also her test are 100 questions!! Honestly after every test I was so tired!. Also some of her question are deep into the reading, small things that seem irrelevant might show up! I DON'T RECOMMEND
I'm so surprised by the negative reviews. Her lectures are clear and before the midterms/final, she gives you a study guide with all the information on the exams. As long as you study the study guide, you should get an A in the class no problem.
I took Professor Chambers Sociology 1H & I regret it. The text she assigned and the lectures she gave weren't intersectional with each other. She also have quizzes every week. The lesson plan was a mess. Attendance is mandatory. I would recommend that you find another sociology professor. I would like to also state she does seem very educated tho.
She is a great professor and is passionate about sociology. If you go to every class and pay attention you will succeed. Small reading quiz every Monday, 2 papers, and 3 exams total. I did not dedicate much time to this class and got a B. This class is not an easy A.
Boring, expects a lot from you, isn't very clear about somethings. Hard to take notes. Very unstimulating lecture, you just sit in your seat for the whole class. She grades tough too and gives a LOT of quizzes.
You don't need the text book. I searched the study guide questions in pp files and got A on all the exams! You do need the the Henslin reader book though. Very passionate and very informative teacher and the best GE class that I've had . 3 exams, quizzes every week and 1 paper with hw or 2 papers without hw and plenty of in-class activities.
Showing up to class is a good idea, as there are classwork assignments that are not only given for credit, but are also referenced in the midterms and finals. Easy material good teacher, no excuse to do badly.
Professor Chambers' course has given me new insight on worldly cultures and issues that we all face. There is plenty of textbook reading but it is all intriguing, informational reading. She gave plenty of extra credit opportunities and is willing to regrade one paper if the issues with your paper is that you are missing data.
Poor grading on assignment, she is not specific on certain things.. She doesn't seem to care about the students, she is not available, if you email her with a certain question, you wont get a response for over 4-5 days & its a generic response that seems as if she "copy-and-pastes" email replies. Dissatisfied with this prof, glad I took online
Very unclear and disorganized, soo much reading I could never keep up especially with the Henslin book, exams are heavy (100 questions) and too much to study for just one exam. I really regret taking this class, it might ruin the GPA I need to get into UCLA. I do not recommend. Try to find a teacher who is organized and can explain things.
Took her online class and it is so weird and disorganized. She doesn't give second chances if you miss a discussion/homework. Extra Credit is Tree Planting a whole day in the sun. Good Luck.
Rundown: 1 presentation/paper, 2 journal entries/week, 6/8 highest quizzes, 2 tests (midterm and final non cumulative). Can get 10 max ec for midterm, 8 max ec for final. Many people dropped on the first day because they thought she was going to be hard (judged the syllabus and honors course) but it was my easiest class. 10/10 would recommend
Pros: Insightful and fairly easy class if you really pay attention by taking notes and/or reading the Powerpoint lecture which is posted in Canvas. Only 2 papers homework and in-class activities.8 easy quizzes. Cons: Can be boring sometimes because the lectures are mostly just reading the Powerpoint and watching videos.
You have to study for this class. You have to read and participate and do all your homework and discussions. Make sure you do not even miss one thing, because she won't let you redo it, she won't give you extra credit. I was at 92% but forgot one homework, one discussion and I received a B at the end. Lots of readings, you have to give it 100%.
This class is not difficult at all. Class made of 8 quizzes, paper, presentation, 2 midterms, and some journals. None of them difficult to complete especially with the way the class is run. Have to read 4 articles for each quiz but the questions are very straightforward. Midterms are more about application than definition but just follow the guides
You have to participate in an online discussion twice a week for points. Homework load is pretty intense/tedious, and there are weekly quizzes on assigned readings. The quizzes ask detailed questions about the reading, so you can't just search up the answers online. The exam/final was straightforward, just memorize all key terms and concepts.
Show up, read the texts, do your homework and you'll be fine! I don't understand how anyone can complain about this class! Prof Chambers has been awesome! I have really enjoyed her lectures and assignments. She drops 2 of the lowest graded quizzes from your overall grade and 20 points of extra credit can be earned through volunteer work.
I liked this class. Overall not a bad class, but a bit tough to get around. I found some extra quizzes not to be that useful, however I did think that REVEL was highly educational and good. The exams are a bit difficult and would suggest some tutoring help. However, this class was an adequate experience overall.
Not bad. Have to go to class. Tests were 90 question scantron, reading quizzes 10 question (can drop two quizzes). Two "homework" papers, but I suggest you do the REVEL option as one. Expect to spend 2 hours per week for a good grade. Some extra credit. Overall, she's fair but a little detached, and a few of her tests questions seemed funky/wrong.
Shes a good teacher you just have to put in the work.
She is very detached and nor personable. Almost robotic. Response to e-mails are slow, short and not clear nor addressing the issue.
Definitely one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She is super disorganized. She says you can talk to her about her grade, but it is obvious she will not change it. Her grading does not even make sense, you have to make sure you answer the short answers her way or no credit. She seems like she purposely chooses which grade each person will get.
I took her online course and I enjoyed it very much. I have taken this professor for other courses previously and I always enjoy the way she organizes her classes and the material that is covered. She's very clear about her expectations and if you are having trouble you can visit her during office hours or talk via email.
Her marriage and family class was SUPER interesting and I learned so many valuable things that I will carry with me throughout my career and life. Professor Chambers is an excellent professor and I recommend her to anyone that is interested in studying sociology.
People rate her poorly because they want to take an easy class with an easy grade. Though you have to work and read in order to do well, I believe that it comes with the facts that you're taking an honors class. Listen to her lecture, write your journals on time, and READ for the quizzes and you'll learn a lot!
I took this professor she was really difficult, I didn't learn much from her lectures. she speeds through them, and doesn't really like when you stop her or when your confused about something. i advise another professor for Soc 1. trust me
Wouldn't take again or recommend. I wasn't available for the scheduled midterm so I contacted her way in advance (like instructed at orientation and in the syllabus) but she didn't respond until the day of the midterm with a "see if the testing center can accommodate you tomorrow" but I was working a full shift the next day... 0 communication. 0/10
Let's be honest, she is a professor who have a lot of passion in sociology. She had really good lectures and examples that help to connect the concept in sociology. The only thing that you have to be aware is sometimes she is unclear on something. So make sure you ask her on the things that you don't understand. She will be happy to help you.
Online sociology. It was super annoying to not always get a response to emails. This is the first time Ive had a professor straight up ignore canvas emails. Theres an extra credit op. But quizzes and tests make about 55% of the grade. Weekly true/false quizzes.
Honestly, she is bad at communication and organization. When I tried to reach out to her, I dont think that she is helpful at all. I understand that is an honors course so it will not be easy, but the fact that she is not willing to help her students when they needed help is not okay. If you can, try to avoid to take her class.
Beware of this class. One of the worst profs I have taken. Not as easy as it seems. Prof is extremely unclear, unapproachable and disorganized. Stay on top of your grade she makes a lot of errors. Lectures boring. don't underestimate the quizzes they add up. overall take this class if you really have a passion for sociology or are patient.
This professor is so unclear and will change the syllabus without telling you. She changes the due date and assignments but doesnt clearly say it or post it on Canvas as announcements. She does not give clear feedback and grading rubric especially on essays and also reads off of her powerpoint the entire class.
Professor Chambers is a highly ineffective instructor. She is unable to accurately synthesize content for student consumption, her lack of social skills is jarring (and ironic), and most prominently, she posses a complete inability to accurately understand and respond to student questions and concerns. This course should be an easy A... it is not.
DONT TAKE HER! She was a terrible professor who is very unclear about what she wanted. For two essays she gave me no credit, looses your work and was super unclear about it and refused to change my grade shes also very confusing on lectures & goes very fast. Hard to talk to! She seems as though she does not care about her students! Terrible prof!
I know some people say she is a bad professor and I would have to disagree. You have to do the work and stay on top of the reading. She lays everything out pretty clearly. She will give you extra credit (10-5 points) depending on which option you choose. She will drop your two lowest quiz scores. I did Revel instead of writing papers. Take her!
Took this class online due to covid-19. Personally, I thought it was an easy A. There are weekly quizzes, and the study guides for them are almost identical to the actual quiz. There's also extra credit that's added to your midterm grade. As long as you follow the study guides this class is pretty easy.
Holy Cow Professor Chambers is by far the WORST low level, hell, ANY level undergrad professor I have ever seen. Her class is not outlined well on the syllabus it says discussions are open Monday-Wednesday and then some close on tuesdays and you get no credit if you're late. In every interaction I have had with her she has been rude and unhelpful.
She has too many students, too many classes and does not respond or work with you on how to fix your grades. One of those professor who lost passion for teaching
I genuinely enjoyed this class. Most students tend to get annoyed with her easy because she can get a bit behind on class work because she will get off track. But we eneded up finishing up the class with enough time to study for the final. I was happy with my final grade of 86%. I would also not recommend doing the REVEL class format.
This class was not on zoom(only for first day) which was great. This class wasn't hard but it does require a bit effort, if you want a B or A. There's discussions that help boost grades and theres McGraw assignments which help with tests. There's 3 specific assignments that she puts for high points (answering video Qs). No projects/ 1Midterm 1Final
Easy class if you actually read the textbook and follow instructions
I recommend you dont take this Professor if youre just coming out of highschool. Itll be a real shock for you, or for anyone whose had great professors who care about their students. If you like textbooks, a lot of reading, and little direction, then this may be the class for you. So far, most uninspiring Professor Ive had.
