Very good teacher but expects you to work hard. Would recommend but this is a course that needs to be taken seriously
Dr. Combier has a really dynamic personality and is a beautiful woman. She loves interaction in class and is really good at explaining concepts. I recommend taking her for the 2000 level classes.

She goes overboard on the theatrics.
She's smart and she's a great teacher. If only I could take all Spanish courses with her. She does promote theatre a litte much, but that's to be expected. Her tests are ok, if you study for them. Homework and labs are not unreasonable.
I loved her class!!!!!
Good teacher, would be very interested in earning my grade the HARD way!
Wonderful Teacher! She is interested in you learning, is very lively and FUN! Loved the class!
Great professor, loves her job and loves helping students.

What an airhead! She's not always honest and misses appointments. I think she likes to teach but shes not the best teacher.
Don't take this class if you want to know what your grade is before the final exam. She gives no homework back on time EVER. And she is so distant that I don't dare ask what my grade is in the class, UGGHH, big UGGHHH!!
I just didn't like her. I can't pinpoint to why, maybe the fact that she acts so snooty all the time. I don't know.
Learning a new language is always difficult, but Dr. Combier makes class fun and interesting. She's very easy to understand w/ her facial expressions, but she stresses learning a lot on your own. It's hard, but she's a much better teacher than people realize.
She gives quizzes everyday and never clearly explaims what is going on in the class. She expects you to teach yourself if you want to pass the class. She never speaks english. And when you ask her to explain...she explains in spanish. Hard...and she is strict and not fair on grading.
One thing I can't stand is when teachers count every little point off and then they give you a test with spelling mistakes all over the place. And my spanish sucks, so if I noticed that means they were major mistakes. So she should edit her stuff more if she is going to be sopicky! Advice avoid her.
Excellent Teacher!!!She is difficult, but cares if you learn. No surprises in this class.Quiz once a week, but gives hints!(If you listen!)She is very passionate about teaching and it shows. Span is not my thing, but I worked hard and made a B!It is do-able! I recommend her!!!She deserves an A+++++
Hated the class. She cares more about making you laugh with her dumb theater crap than whether you learn or not. If you can get somebody else, take them for this class.
I have taken Dr.s Combier, Hislope (terrible), and McNeer (out of touch), and Dr. Combier is by far the best. She will go out of her way to help you, all you have to do is ask and try. She is also very attractive.
Not willing to help and is unclear about expectations. Moves ahead even if the entire class is lost and confused.
She is VERY unclear about when quizzes are and what will be on them. It took her half way to through the semester to even get a calendar and now she doesn't even follow it. She also gets her classes confused a lot and assumes we know things and moves on without asking if anyone is confused.
She is not the easiest, but she is a very nice teacher and is definetly willing to help you when you ask questions in class. She wants you to understand spanish and cares of you are getting it or not.She is alot like the teacher i had in high school so that may contribute to this though.
Lots of quizzes, but I think she does a good job overall. Rushes through chapters though. Also, started off a solid teacher, but as the semester goes she seemed to be more unclear of what we were doing and she would say one thing and do another and again rushed through things.
I think she must write these reviews herself. She doesn't like McNeer or Hislope and her claws are coming out. What a dim wit! Don't even waste your time taking this with her.
She is a very nice person, and willing to help. The class is an easy A, yet I had only one problem. Not all hispanics in the U.S. are Mexican. She needs to give examples from different countries other than Mexico.
I loved her! I thought she was very clear with expectations and also understanding. She is big on pronounciation and accents, but thats about it. I had a great time in her class and even learned to salsa.
Taking my spanish class with her was the biggest mistake I ever made! The lang. dept at NGC is one of the hardest in the country...go to GPC and take it over the summer. You can get 1001 and 1002 both done over the summer and be able to walk out with HOPE. RUN AWAY IF YOU TAKE HER, she isn't helpful or easy at all!
Too bad no one else teaches this class, cuz she's the worst profe I've ever had
Dr. Combier...what's due tomorrow? Oh the paper, okay. The next day you show up and you have an oral presentation, an exam and who knows, a PLAY to write. Insane, not hard or even interesting, just plain disrespectful.
She calls on people...a lot. If you don't like talking in class, you're screwed. She will call on you before you even walk into class. I had a TR class and she raped me with homework. she grades pretty lenient and speaks clearly, but she the most intimidating person I've ever met.
Dra. Combier is one of the best spanish teachers in the department. She expects you to work and learn, but she is willing to help you in whatever way she can so that you can get a better understanding of spanish.
A really really great professor. Nothing bad to say about her really. She demands a lot but she also gives a lot.
Oh, my god! If you like organization and to know what is due on a specific day - DO NOT TAKE HER!!! You come into class and she tells you that you have something due that you've never even been assigned. Where the heck did they find her, a crackerjack box? Well, they got the booby prize. Avoid her like the plague! Awful!
She was average. I felt like I was in a highschool class again, her lectures were dull but part of the problem was also the unethusiasim from both teacher and class. She got more interesting towards the end of the semester with actualy giving activivites. Very unorganized, but she was nice. She grades fairly, and if you do the work you should pass
She is very sweet and willing to help students. She is not as knowledgeable as some of the other professors though. Grades very fair if she likes you. The only problem- she was always very unorganized. She would walk into class and ask for an assignment that she had not assigned. Does not stick to syllabus either. I never knew what to expect next.
OMG!! She is the most unorganized teacher ever. She always talked about France and the french language, I don't know why she teaches spanish. I never knew what was due and when it was due. She is sweet but not a good teacher.
very nice lady, but not organized at all! she would tell us one thing was due, and then on the due date, say something totally different was due! very confusing when trying to learn a new language.
I really enjoy her class. She is really nice and took the time out to make sure we understood her. The only time that I feel she is disorganized is when she will tell us a presentation is due and then she usually forgets about them and we do them like a week later. She really wants her students to learn and I am going to take her again.
She is very clear, very effective, and very amusing. Unfortunately for me, I don't like Spanish, but I knew that I struggle with the conversational and oral part of Spanish, which she helps A LOT with. She has pop quizzes every now and then, but she always tells you what to study for the next class. She also makes you do presentations in class.
This isn't highschool so don't go into any language class expecting a free ride or naptime. She is hard but that does not mean bad. She is awesome for FRENCH, take someone else for spanish.
She is a HARD teacher. It was supposed to be elementary spanish and she came in talking spanish the first day! I have a hard time comprehending and she really didn't help! There are a lot of quizzes and they are all fill in the blank! Her tests are really hard too!!
She's difficult. She expects a lot from you, especially when it comes to conversational Spanish. She'll tell you when quizzes are, usually, and when she tells you to do an assignment, DO IT! By SPAN 1002, she'll speak Spanish for probably 75% of the class (or more), so pay attention. Her explanations of verb tenses are very good though.
Snooty teacher. Unorganized. Doesn't keep appointments during office hours.Take someone else.
What can you say about a teacher who gives tests with spelling mistakes all over the page? Doesn't she proofread her own stuff? And she never had anything good to say about the other profes.
I understand that this is college and there is going to be a lot of work, but this teacher is gives borderline busy work... Even if she is going to be absent, she does not cancel class. She does not make things clear for students who obviously need more help learning the language... More bad things, but out of room to type. Don't take her!!!!
hated this class, she isnt very helpful when you dont understand. however she is very forgiving
I'm sad to say that I have had 4 classes with her over the course of my 3 years with NG and she has gone from fun and understanding to cold and too busy for her students. She gets angry easy and assigns at least 2 hours of homework a night. I mean I'm afraid to ask her for help for fear that I will irritate her. :(
Friendly teacher, very approachable and offers help. Busy, but students are her priority. Pushes us to think about touchy cultural issues. Uncomfortable for me, but only because I don't know much yet.
Great teacher. Knows her stuff and relates subject matter to everyday life. Very helpful. Participation is a must. Everyone should make a good great if they put the energy and time into it. Highly recommend.
I can't recommend this professor. I suggest you take someone else. Very unorganized teacher. Forgets what she assigns.
She was very helpful and understanding when I missed a lot of class due to illness and she is very nice and extremely intelligent. BUT she gives A LOT of work, and is not very organized so you are never really sure what to do or when it's due....I will probably fail just based on that. Also, her tests are pretty hard.
Dr. Combier knows her subject matter very well and she is enthusiastic about it, but she is extremely unorganized. She would constantly ask us for homework that she hadn't assigned and she would assign homework that she wouldn't collect. I wouldn't recommend her.
She keeps you on your toes. If you really want to learn the language, this is a good class to take. Tests are easy as long as you pay attention and do the homework. She knows her stuff and is engaging. She is VERY helpful and will make sure you pass the class as long as you put some effort into it.
Dra. Combier is very nice lady. She's extremely helpful and wants you to be successful. I would recommend her to anyone taking Spanish.
I would not recommend Dr. Combier. She does know her stuff and is very passionate about languages however she grades extremely hard and is very forgetful. She will assign things and never collect them. She will say she's going to grade something then never grade it. You MUST study outside of class otherwise you will fail.
I would not recommend this teacher. Dr. Combier is a very intelligent woman and knows her languages very well, but as a teacher, I felt that she did not explain the subject well to us. She expects very much from her students but does not teach at the level at which she expects her students to learn. Also was too busy and frequently missed class.
Dr. Combier is one of the BEST professors I have ever had! She explains the material well and her door is ALWAYS open. Dr. C. is very passionate about education & she lives for her students. Beyond the classroom, Dr. C is a great mentor & is also very encouraging. Beyond teaching, she's very compassionate & is truly beautiful person inside & out!
She puts a lot on the students but what do you expect? It's a language class. She utilizes the immersion techniques and gives a lot of work. It is doable. She is incredible to talk to outside of the classroom and very helpful. If you're interested in the subject and are a hard worker, you will do well.
She is REAL hard. She grades hard and expects a whole lot. I took the remedial class because I SUCK at Spanish, and we had to write an essay, in Spanish, a few weeks in. I knew that I was screwed. I honestly could care less about learning Spanish, but unfortunately I had to take it to graduate. If you have the same mentality then don't take her.
Loved her! Can't wait for 2001 in the fall!
Dr. Combier is a great professor! Yes, you do have to do a lot of skits, but they're not awful. Gives a lot of online homework, but it helps. She is very helpful and really knows what she's teaching. Extremely nice also! I would definitely recommend her!
She is the bomb! Such a good class!
Dr. Combier is a very passionate teacher which passed on to her students. She's an amazing teacher, and as long as you show her that you are trying, she is very understanding when it comes to grading. She gives partial credit if you get something wrong. There is a lot of online homework, but it's a language class. Great teacher!
She is a very hard grader and expects way too much from her students when she does not give them what they need to know. She goes against her word and is not clear about many assignments. She will not allow English even when you do not know the words in Spanish. Would not recommend to anyone under any circumstance.
She is by far the worst Spanish professor I have ever taken. I am a 5th year Spanish student and I got a C in this class. She barely responds to emails and when she does she is rude. Don't ever get sick or hospitalized like I did because whatever work you miss, oh well you get a zero. The online site always crashes and she randomly changes dates.
She was helpful if you really asked for it, but overall her class took up way too much time. I got a B, but felt like all of the online work (and she makeswants you to do a lot and then never specifies exactly what to do) was completely pointless. Also, she makes you do presentations. Interesting, smart person, but a pretty cold, hassling teacher.
Dr. Combier is one of the best Spanish professors I've ever had. She speaks entirely in Spanish, but makes the language easy to understand through her body language and comedic attitude. She tries her best to work with you and help you understand the language and help you in the areas where you are struggling. I love this professor.
Dra. Combier seems like a caring professor but, I felt like if your Spanish speaking skills weren't where she wanted them to be, she kinda moved on from engaging you in class. She isn't afraid to correct every mistake you make, in front of the whole class. There is a lot of online homework, but pay attention to it because that's what will be tested
This class is extremely difficult. The professor only speaks in spanish the entirety of the semester. Tests are extremely hard. This professor is extremely rude, and not proffesional.
She is by far the worst professor I have ever taken. She is disrespectful and rude and unaccommodating. She assigns obscene amounts of useless work that I gained nothing from. In addition, she does not teach or explain, simply gives vocab words and asks you to memorize them. Pointless teacher. Would not recommend.
She is tough, but caring. Lots of homework! Class was all about speaking with classmates, so that was fun. high expectations, lots of memorizing vocab, but good.
I loved Profe Combier! She was really caring and understanding, and wanted us to succeed in her class and develop our language skills. There was a lot of homework but it didn't take long, and it was good practice. She encouraged us a lot even when we made mistakes, and really showed she cared about every student and their success. 100% recommend!
I respect her as a person as a teacher she is awful She is the head of the dept. so you can't complain at all She never put due dates on anything until our class talked to her about it The due dates she did end up putting on d2l were all on the same day so it was really hard to do everything at once she is a really hard grader DO NOT TAKE HER!
CLIFFNOTES: don't take her in your last semester of college, you will be stressed. Yeah, not to be mean, but she was probably the second worst professor I've ever had. She showed little regard for the students that needed help, she was snippy, combative, immutable, abrasive, ambiguous, demanding, she was spiteful, and unfair. NOT THE MOVE BIG DAWG.
don't take her in your last semester of college like I did you will hate yourself not to sound like im a bad person she is super rude an extremely hard grader. She is horrible with communication never ask her for help she won't give it to you. she is very demanding and very unfair with everything in the class honestly don't take her you will fail.
She is a wonderful teacher and I would highly recommend her for upper-level Spanish. If you are taking it because you want an easy online Spanish class, this is not the class for you. There are around 100 smaller grades, 6 labs, 2 exams, 1 final, a 1-on-1 oral exam, and two 35 sentence composition tests.
Terrible teacher, way to hard for this level of Spanish. She teaches like its a medical class and makes people feel dumb in front of anyone
Dra. Comber has a great passion for literature and that made me enjoy every lesson I had with her. I learned a lot and it was fun because of the structure of her class. She does not like PowerPoints so all the lessons were more like conversation and it is important to take notes to pass the tests. I love her way of teaching.
This professor did not follow my student disability accommodations, and I had to dispute my grade at the end of the semester because she didn't follow ADA law. The lectures can be difficult to follow if you do not have a very large Spanish vocabulary. I had to get help from other professors in the department to understand the material.
People like to give Professor Combier bad ratings just because it is a Spanish class. I really enjoyed having her as my professor. Yes, this class is hard and there is a lot of homework to do but as long as you do well on the labs and the VHL stuff you'll be fine. I really enjoyed her she was easy to talk to and very understanding as well! Study!
Took her Spanish 1001 class because I saw fairly good reviews, but had an awful experience. This teacher was rude and often ignored me and my friend when we had question. I had a problem with VHL and told her about it many times and she completely ignored both my emails and when I talked to her in person. She only went over subjects briefly.
Hard to get along with and not very understanding. Tests are VERY difficult, even for someone who already had somewhat of an understanding of basic Spanish.
worst professor ive ever had. grades extremely harshly.
