She rules. I don't understand why she got rated so poorly on the other ones. She is very fair and doesn't give too much homework.
She is an outstanding and remarkable professor who studied at The Sorbonne. She is a writer and publishes. She knows her Lit, Eng, French, Grammar, and so much more. Don't be discouraged if it seems tough at first. You will be glad at the end of the semester because you'll actually learn a lot.
The stories ere interesting and were beautifully written, you actually like going t class because it's easy and manageble, Dr.Dahab is wild, energtic, and cool.
Dr.Dahab is one of the best instructors I had ever. She does have a strong french accent, but her class was so incredible. She is a published writer and completely passionate about this class. Yes participation is very important, you'd better speak up in the beginning so she knows you.
Very fun teacher.
She takes a little getting used to but, in the end, she is kind of fun in her own quirky ways. The work is not that bad and the readings are so-so but it's not a class you have to stress about.
She knows her stuff. She is weird but fun. You need to participate in class and have your readings done. Discussions are profound and you'd be glad to have her. She is easier and more flexible in smaller-sized classes instead of classes like CWL100.
Very interestig professor. She is very funny, and has a very interesting personality and very enthusiastic. She keeps you awake, mostly because she wants you to participate a lot. Her tests and quizzes are not hard at all. Just do your reading.
Very interseting teacher. Takes some getting used to, but has a lot of interesting thoughts. She always finds the good points, she just doesn't point out the faults. Pay attention and do the readings, and you will be fine.
lots of reading. she's a bit ... eccentric. this class is ok. great for bookworms.
this profesor teaches you a lot during the semester, she opens your eyes to art and literature. She likes participation and attendance is mandatory. If you work you can get an A. There is a lot of reading, and the class can be time consuming. She is a nice person and really cares, I would recommend her.
Prof. Dahab is a really good teacher and knows her material well. She's always opened to new ideas and interpretations of the readings. Great personality to keep the class engaged as well!!
she was an amaizng and wonderful teacher, i still have not till this day come across a professor like her. The world needs people with integrity and kindness such as her.
wonderful teacher!
I was a little intimidated by her at first, but she is so fun and she really really loves teaching art and lit. She is passionate and wants you to learn. Just show up to class and do everything and you will be fine.
Dr. Dahab is awesome! Anyone would benefit from taking her class. If you didn't like her class, you must not enjoy learning.
Very nice and SMART lady. Knows her stuff. Paricipatation is 15% of class. Takes roll. Would recommend her as a teacher but not for comic spirit as all readings were mainly French and other european plays and not actually comical.
She has tons of enthusiasm and a very global perspective that she brings to what she teaches. She keeps things at a level that everyone can reach if they try, she's very accomodating.
Took her class spring 2008 and I miss her! She has a French/Arabic background which makes for interesting classes and class discussions. She's very sweet, very eager to answer questions and engage her students. I HIGHLY recommend her class!!!
Get over the accent for the experience. She writes better english compared to some other prof! Keep up with the course it will get easier. You'll b amazed with what you learned! Passionate.
Like she said in the beginning of the semester, she is REALLY passionate about teaching this class. She is very energetic and helpful. She's a pretty lenient grader, too. And there's definitely a lot of reading to be done in this class! Be prepared to rush slowly! :)
Dr. Dahab...she's a character. Make sure to attend class since participation counts as 30% of your grade. You pretty much have to speak out loud every class, and there is a huge oral presentation (which honestly isn't that bad). In terms of the papers, I wish she'd be a little more specific on what she is looking for.
Be prepared for an "experience" in her class. Be prepared for her to act out (amusingly/crazily) scenes from plays you're reading in both English and French. She is fun, but as to how much I really learned, I can't say that it was much. Just a bit too eccentric for me.
AWWWWW I LOVE DR DAHAB. She was innately funny - didn't try. Very interesting course & material. I wouldn't expect everyone to like it...people who aren't into narratives & poetic literature. Love her. I'd take her again
As a fifth-year, this class had to be one of the best classes I've ever taken. Dr. Dahab is marvelous, hysterical, and passionate. I would take another class with her in a heartbeat.
Dr. Dahab, a complete spectacle! And a lovely, spectacular postmodern thinker, lover! I will look to take many classes with her in the future. So, you: Be smart, take her classes, dive into the many lit. pieces and art works she'll ask you to examine. Take notes, come prepared with intelligent observations, & keep textbooks for later reference.
Made me rediscover poetry after I thought it was a complete unnecessary and enegendered a love for it. An amazing personality who really cares about her students. Dont expect to learn what you need directly from her but she will aid in helping you discover what your passions and strengths and weaknesses are.
Dr. Dahab is a character and a half. Her class was my favorite this semester. She's a wonderful person with such a quirky personality. She's very passionate about what she teaches and it makes it difficult to not become involved as well. If your lucky she'll recite some original pieces for you ;]
By far the best professor I've had this semester. She was such a character and made my day at school. She makes sure you attend class & def have to read the blue book you get at copyco or else you will be lost. lots of class participation a must!biggest grade is group presentation @ the end! overall you have to put an effort to receive the grade.
This woman is amazing. She is such a character, and I think everybody needs to experience this fabulous professor. She can be a little impatient, but overall one of the most fun, informative classes I've taken. Not an easy A, but not that difficult if you read the material, which is always interesting. Plus, the last week is show and tell!!
This is a white matter course: not memorization, but connections to politics/ culture/ sociology/ philosophy... Anything goes: better to participate than wallow in self-doubt. ED will appreciate any contribution, whatever tenuous interdisciplinary and factual you offer. Just try: lenient grading + straightforward grade structure will do the rest
Dr. Dahab is "fantastic"! :) She is the best! don't be scared of her! She is super nice, funny and knowledgeable. Read the readings and participate and it's an easy A!
Best Professor! Dr. Dahab is quite a character, she is so adorable! Their is nightly readings and few (very few pop quizzes) but they're super easy if you do the readings. And the readings are actually interesting! But I loved LOVED LOVED this class. Two Midterm Papers and group presentation second half of class. It is a little work, but worth it.
At first, I wanted to drop the class because she seems intimidating and requires a lot from students. But as the semester progresses, she is pretty easy and nice. There are 2 essays, a group presentation, a paper presentation, some study questions, a test, and a final. Overall, she loves participation, so speak up! Reasonably easy grader!
Dr. Dahab is a really nice professor. I admit she is intimidating at first but once you get to know her she is really sweet and laid back. There was 1 midterm exam, 2 essays, a group presentation, a paper presentation, a final, and weekly Study guide questions. Her class is very fast paced, make sure to come to class well prepared!
Dr. Dahab is great! She's endearingly quirky, but also clearly knowledgable and passionate about what she teaches. The class was a seminar format - daily readings of short stories, and you have to come to class prepared for discussion. The stories were all enjoyable, and a nice break from usual academic reading. Take this course!
Awesome professor! Clear grading criteria and moderately easy as long as you complete the assignments with effort. She seems intimidating at first, but is personable once you know her more. The class is boring, but she's not bad to take!
Fairly easy class, grade mostly based on attendanceparticipation - I probably would have gotten an A if I hadn't skipped as many classes, oops. She's very nice and understanding, she can be confusing at times but the assignments are easy enough that you can figure it out anyway. Only 2 essays and a few easy pop quizzes.
Having taken multiple classes from Dahab, it is my goal to give a fair assessment while also telling you to take that course you're looking at. Though she is not always clear and is hardly an easy A, those who engage and take interest always seem to do well. Besides this, she is the most entertaining and insightful professor I've had. Highest rec.
Prof. Dahab is by far my favorite professor at CSULB. When the first class started she explained that if we are bored then she will be bored and if she is bored then we will be bored, we are never bored. The class is highly discussion based but is very entertaining. She is such an amazing professor and really cares about her students learning.
Dahab is a great professor and will make you laugh. I participated a lot in class and turned everything in. It's not an easy A but its not impossible to get if you complete everything and seem interested.
You need to have your book(s) every lecture. That's what sucks the most. Heavy emphasis on student participation. Lots of group work. Pop quizzes almost every other class so you should come to class. Very very knowledgable (did her PHD in France, where it's taken more seriously and much harder to obtain). Btw, she's very French and hilarious.
One of the most intelligent prof. I've had. I wish she would lecture more so I could learn more from her! Always gives us employment/academic opportunities and pushes us to succeed. This is the type of class where you get more out of ONLY IF you put more in it. (read & participate & research). I learned so much from her class and her insight.
I have graduated now, but looking back Dr. Dahab has been one of my most favorite professors. Do all the readings since class participation is important! She is passionate about what she teaches and her classes are enjoyable. I have learned so much from her classes and overall recommend her! Not an easy A, but if you work for it you will earn it.
She is one of my favorite professors! She is passionate about what she is teaching, which makes the class amazing! I honestly loved going to her class! She is one of those teachers, that genuinly cares about her students. The class itself is a great class, and very interesting. It opened my eyes and gave me a lot of insight I didnt have prior.
I love Dr. Dahab, as many of her past students do. She was easily my favorite professor at CSULB both because of her depth of knowledge and her readiness to have her students thrive in and out of class. CWL 412 was my first course with her and I couldnt recommend it more. Great subject matter with most of the tests focusing on videos and reading.
CWL 449 was the second course I had with Dr. Dahab (it was for a majority of the students), so I knew what I was in for. The main focus of the course is discussion based off the reading along with a group presentation that is very easy if you plan ahead and collaborate. Both the essay and final are graded lightly since this is not an English class.
She is very patient and very involved. She expects more participation than most professors, but that is arguably why you gain so much more from her courses.
Mrs. Dahab is really amazing and sweet. In the beginning I couldn't really understand her because of her thick accent but I got the hang of it. She assigns a reading each class meetings and than we get into groups to discuss. The class consisted of two essay and a 40 minute group presentation. Her test are pretty difficult so make sure to study !!
Of all the professors that I have had at CSULB, Dr. Dahab has been one of my favorites. Usually an evening class is filled with students that are half-asleep, but Dr. Dahab's energy and passion for the course material, along with her methods of encouraging participation in discussions, made me look forward to class even after a long day.
Dr. Dahab is a bit of a stickler when it comes to respect and coming to class, but she's incredibly kind and understanding to the situations of her students. There will be homework every day but it's always incredibly manageable and the majority of your grade will be determined by in-class participation (we had nearly no tests). 12/10 reccomend
Dr. Dahab is funny and sweet, she cares about what you have to say in class discussions. The class is fairly easy if you enjoy reading interesting short stories and sharing your opinion, and still doable if that's not your thing. Show up to class and do the readings and you'll be fine.
Very passionate about her classes. She exposed to so many artists and authors. She helped me grasp the material in various aspects, aspects I thought I would never really need to ever reference. I recently got hired as an English and Art teacher. I am currently referencing a lot I have learned in Dr. Dahabs class.
I took all the CWL classes for my minor with Dahab because she is truly a one of a kind professor. During my years in her classes, I was introduced to various writers and the critical approach to readings has helped me in English courses as well as in my own personal reading. Dahab is the best professor I've had in college, I would recommend to all
Dr. Dahab is one of the most amazing professors I've ever had. She's so passionate about the subjects she teaches, which makes the class so much more fun. If you put the work in, Dr. Dahab makes sure that you get useful knowledge out of it. She is thoughtful and caring and all around one of the most amazing people to have as an instructor.
Dr. Dahab is truly wonderful! UHP 100 was my first honors course in college so I was a bit apprehensive heading into it. However, not only did I learn a lot through that class with her, but I also really enjoyed it as well. She is truly considerate, intelligent, and thoughtful when it comes to both her teaching and her students. She's amazing!
Dr Dahab is by far one of the best professors Ive ever taken, she made class super interesting and fun! This was a 2hr 45min night class and I never dreaded going to class. She was a very easy grader and theres no reason as to why anyone should not pass, readings were easy and interesting, 10/10 would recommend
Loved her!
Dr Dahab is genuinely a great professor, I would recommend her to anyone
She's by far the easiest and most fun teacher I've had at long beach. All she really wants is for you to get more educated and aware of the world. Her readings are relatively 10 or less pages (FAR BETTER than reading chapters for other classes). If you make some effort in her class, you'll pass easily. There's almost no way you can't get an A.
Dr. Dahab really knows her art and literature. She is a fair grader and does examine grades to see what your missing. Class conducted in seminar format and does have a strict attendance policy so show up. Make sure to read and participate because it can be included in essays and part of your tests. Overall, a great teacher!
Professor Dahab is Awesome. Her level of energy is incredible. This is the second class I took with her and I loved every minute of it!
This is my favorite class this semester. Dr Dahab is funny, kind, and a brilliant professor
Take her: you won't regret it if you work hard. One of the best teachers at Long Beach, she truly cares about all her students and is passionate about every class and tried to use every minute to give us the best education possible. I learned so much in this course and, if I wasn't graduating 2020, I would take many more classes with Dr. Dahab.
I absolutely adored this professor! She is super quirky, kind, caring, and adorable with her outfits! She gives us the chance to openly debate and discuss real world topics, and assigns readings that push us to think critically in all aspects. Participation is a big thing, and if you're able to think in different perspectives--assignments is easy.
she is such an amazing and understanding teacher especially during covid. you won't regret taking her.
Despite COVID, she made class engaging and fun! Participation is a part of your grade so be sure you're keeping up with the readings which are like a 10-15 minute read. She's an awesome professor and really wants the best for her students. Extremely passionate about what she teaches and very engaging. 10/10 would highly recommend.
Prof. Dahab is such an amazing professor! Most of her classwork is easily accessible and the texts you have to read for homework are pretty short. She doesn't give out a lot of homework except a few papers in the middle towards the end of the semester and 1 group project. Even if you don't understand the reading, it will be discussed in class!
I was a little bit intimated by her at first honestly (she talks a bit fast/too loudly at times, but really it's because she's passionate about the topic). Despite this, she really grew on me and her course definitely helped me cope with quarantine. The content was interesting, and the overall vibe of the class was very enjoyable. Take her!
Professor is very understanding and made the transition to online easy. Some participation is required and the lectures are based on the readings. Assignments are straight forward and easy to understand. There was one group project when I took the class.
ONE OF THE BEST! I was intimidated at first but Dr. Dahab is awesome! Shes not a difficult grader but she teaches this subject so well and in such an engaging way. There are 2 papers, 1 final paper, some quizzes, and a midterm. Participation is also a grade but she helps get everyone talking and comfortable! The readings were also interesting!
Like the previous comment, I too was a bit intimidated by her in the beginning. Fortunately, she grew on me. :) She's very caring and understanding and grades mercifully. She's very charismatic and her passion for ethnic lit. really shows. She's a wonderful professor.
Doctor Dahab is so cool. She wants her students to feel comfortable, but participation in class is still required. You can literally chime in and say anything and it'll count. Minimal tests and she says she gives pop quizzes, but she'll hint at it in class. There's one group project and like two or three papers. The class is actually interesting.
TAKE HER. 2 papers, but she made the 2nd one optional if you did good on the 1st one. Same for the midterm; if the class does well the 1st time then there's only one. Pop quizzes but she hints when it'll be. Easy group presentation. Readings actually interesting and short. Participation required but u can say anything and it will count. Easy A!
Love Prof Dahab. She is so passionate about the subject and is so unintentionally funny. There are 2 papers but only rlly did 1 since the class did well on the first one. Exams and quizzes were easy. Class is an easy A and actually really interesting. Be sure to participate- it is such a safe space. And if you're lucky, you'll get to meet Mango <3
She's honestly amazing she's so caring and understand it wasn't that hard you have a couple quizzes all though there's readings you have to do she's amazing and the papers are not hard I recommend taking her she really really amazing. There are two group projects but she's a linnet grader and they're easy.
She is a great professor to have. I have had her in multiple classes and she was a great mentor in CWL 480. She is very caring, and wants her students to succeed. She will go the extra mile for her students if you just ask for assistance, and talk to her during office hours/before or after class.
Dr. Dahab knows exactly how to teach a class. She trusts her students with their ideas & is incredibly knowledgeable. She is such an inspiration to me. This was my first time taking her class and I had a very rough semester with all my other classes. Her class gave me a chance to express my passion for writing and improve my research.
If you are an introvert, you may want to reconsider this class; participation is expected! The start of the semester was loaded but got easier. Near the end, we have 1-hour group presentations, so you can chill and listen on the days when you're not presenting. Midterm, quizzes, essays, and homework were easy! Overall, good if you are extroverted.
I adore Professor Dahab! Her passion for the subject shows entirely through her lectures. She's also hilarious. It's a really engaging class that requires participation, but you can say anything and she'll appreciate it. There's a lot of reading so be prepared and take notes! Take her, you won't regret it.
Didn't expect to be very interested in this class but it was actually very interesting. Dr. Dahab is so incredibly caring and wants her students to learn and succeed. If you do the reading and participate in class you'll be fine. She is very fair when it comes to grading and expectations. Come into her class expecting to work and you'll be fine.
Dr. Dahab was by far the most amazing professor i encountered this semester. Definitely take her as a professor if you have the opportunity!
I forgot to leave this review last semester! But love this professor. She is so funny, and makes her class genuinely interesting. I had fun doing my end of semester group presentation, which I usually dislike. It was so much fun! Clearly wants her students to succeed. Make sure you speak her in class because she will draw you out of your shell.
This is a very interactive course. No real quizzes on anything, just asking questions. Have an answer, and you'll pass. It's a bit of a communications course, and not very intuitive as an online course. The professor also has this really weird quirk where she'll ask a question and give no time to answer, talk away then say no one is answering her.
Very caring professor. She is hilarious. Honestly, the work is interesting at times, but it was not my cup of tea, but that is not her fault. Work is light just read the homework. There was an incident in my class with another student who was sort of acting up and disrespecting her, and honestly she handled the situation very well. Overall amazing!
What an amazing professor!! Love the reading material she provides and she does a good job moderating student discussions on the topics for the week. Some pop quizzes, but nothing overly difficult if you've done the reading, easy homework assignments, weekly Q&A discussions on the reading, 2 papers and one group presentation. HIGHLY recommend!!!
Professor Dahab is great. She's funny, caring and enjoys what she teaches. A few pop quizzes but she'll hint at when they are and has easy HW assignments. One group presentation, a paper and a final journal. She expects thorough analysis of the readings and study Q&As. She posts weekly announcements instead of using the syllabus. Take her!
Clear grading criteria and I think her class was super interesting. I didn't mind the essays nor the group presentations and thought her passion shined bright. I would love to take her again.
LOVE HER! She is easy, funny, and nice. You need the textbook but its only $10 on amazon. Light reading assignments before each class. a few pop quizzes but super easy. Cancelled second paper. Definitely take her.
Dr. Dahab is invested in her students' success inside and outside of the classroom. She seems intimidating at first, but you will see that she is more like a mentor than a professor. As long as you keep her updated on your progress or any potential roadblocks, she will go above and beyond in supporting you. CWL 480 was a fun + amazing experience.
Dr. Dahab is very knowledgeable, funny, and lenient. You are graded on (verbal) participation, one group presentation, extremely easy quizzes, one midterm, and very few written assignments, so if you're shy to speak in class (like me), keep that in mind. Do the readings, participate, and have a good attitude and you'll enjoy the class a lot.
