Tursdays are "optional" atendence since it is a 4 credit hour class and they schedule it as 5 hrs so she uses thrus. as opitional review days.
Dempster is a very easy going teacher who makes class optional everyday, as long as you do well on the tests. She makes thursdays optional and always helps on webassigns. She is pretty easy as long as you pay attention to her. She goes over material that will be on test a few days before the tests, so as long as you are there you will be fine.
Nice and easy going teacher, but talks very fast. She goes over information too fast for my liking, if you havent had calculus before you might struggle in her calc 1 class.
Mrs. Dempster is nice funny, but she talks extremely fast. You might struggle if this is your first time taking calc, like me
Very funny and very helpful. GO to class to get the exam extra credit. Went from a C+ to B with it ! Talks very very fast but just tell her to slow down and she will. I took Calc 2 three times with a different professor each time and she is definitely the best at state ! She is sooo hot for a 40 year old its hard to concentrate !!
She is a good teacher who talks fast, gives hard tests, but is effective.
Mrs. Dempster was a great teacher! She made class optional a lot of the time, and her tests and webassigns were not very hard. If you pay attention in class and do the "recommended" problems she suggests, the class should be really easy for you. Plus, she is quite attractive for her age, which can sometimes cause distraction in class.
She was the best teacher ever!! She's always fun and helps with webassigns and delays maple. Also offers extra credit on tests sometimes. If you go to class and sort of pay attention, you can get an easy B..if not an A. Excellent teacher! I would recommend her over and over again. She is really the best - coming from a student who HATES math :)
She is a very nice teacher and accommodates the needs of students, such as moving due dates or test dates. She is very down to Earth. As long as you go to class and pay attention you should do well. Her tests are pretty easy and grading is like most math classes.
She was awesome!
Fantastic teacher. She goes out of her way to help you with homework and such, and she is super clear in class as well. Very nice and personable. VERY willing to accommodate when you have an issue. Seriously, if you dislike math, you can NOT get a better teacher than her.
She was really helpful and took class time to work out problems students had trouble with. She also addressed problems that were emailed to her. There is no reason not to understand anything and all topics are covered on the tests and quizzes. She is a great teacher who really wants you to do well. The final exam replaces your lowest grades.
I liked this class. She was very good at explaining concepts and keeping the class moving along.
shes a good teacher but sometimes she goes very slow. very easy
Ms. Dempster was great. I hate math, but she was very understanding and explained things very well. I'd take a class with her again.
She is a very good teacher. However, her only problem is that she goes slow in explaining things. She is also very nice in person.
Excellent teacher. I came into college knowing virtually nothing about math and she helped me understand it. Best math teacher you can possibly get starting out.
I had Ms. Dempster for MA 141 which is the engineering calculus. I had calc in high school so for me it was easy enough to get an A. If you haven't had calc before, the material can be a little confusing but she is sooo helpful. She is dropping our lowest test grade and some low grades on other assignments. Great teacher!
a very good teacher
She is an average teacher, very nice. She does everything decently, nothing special. If you are pretty good at math, I would recommend her, otherwise, look for a little bit easier teacher.
Easy to understand, reasonable exams. Math is my worst subject and I overslept over twenty times and managed a C. Pretty good professor.
She is great in lecture, really helps you to understand everything, BUT does not prepare you well for the types of questions asked on the test.
Decent with her lecutres. If you're not strong with math I would not recommend her. She tends to be late when setting up appointments with her during her office hours and often comes to class late and spends the first half hour just trying to collect herself.
Best calculus teacher! Only teaches whats on the test.
She is super nice and really willing to help students!
Really awesome professor. The best college professor i have had yet. If you study enough right before the tests by doing her practice tests then you will ace the tests easily. Highly recommended.
Do not take Ms. Dempster's class if you are not strong in math. She is nice but relies on the TAs to explain any questions and online resources to teach you. However, she prepares you well for tests by giving you the format and similar questions.
Mrs. Dempster is a really nice instructor. She basically tells you what is going to be on the test, but you have to figure everything out yourself. Basically all we did in class was go over practice problems, and no clear explanation was given as to why it had to be done that certain way. If you've had calc before take her, if not find someone else
An extremely easy teacher, she keeps things simple and to the point; she definitely knows what she is doing.
She is great! Best math teacher I've ever had. Super Easy tests!
I had Dempster for 141 as well and I liker her so much that I took her again. She has the notes online so that you can print them out before you come to class and make extra notes on them. She gives 5 extra points on the final exam if you only miss a certain number of days. Overall she made my freshman year a lot easier!
Very helpful teacher and makes a bland subject very interesting. Is very easy as long as you keep up with web assigns and give examples of past tests she gave out just to make it that much easier. Take this class.
She was funny, very understandable, and was very generous. I'd recommend her to anyone that has troubles with math!
Easy, fun, highly recomended!
Really good teacher, but she relies on her TA to help you with questions. Her exams were fair and she doesn't require you to buy a textbook for the class. Overall the class was great and really helped me get a better understanding in math.
Hardly ever went to class and made an A+. All her notes are online as well as you learning the material through Moodle and completing the homework through WebAssign. Her tests are exactly like the homework and she posts old tests that look exactly the same. Definitely recommend before taking calculus. She is super nice and easy.
Elizabeth Dempster was a great teacher. For each test, she puts up her old tests. The old tests do a fantastic job of preparing you for each test. She is lenient with webassign and maple due dates, commonly postponing them until the latest possible date. She does a decent job in class of going over the material, and puts her notes online.
Easy to understand. Great teacher. Very fun. Hardly went to class and passed with an A. Only problem is that she went a little fast and sometimes went off on a tangent, but questions from students would put her on track and she would explain everything. Overall, good class.
Professor Dempster is a great professor. She reminds me of that cool teacher you had in high school. She made calc 1 very easy. She gave us one day off(it was optional) a week! She is one of the best professors I've had in college.
I did not like Ms. Dempster. She always went way too fast. I sat in the back and when people would ask questions, I couldn't hear them and she would never repeat the questions, just go off on some tangent and I would have no idea what she was talking about. Also, wasn't very helpful when I would e-mail her asking questions. Overall not that great.
Cool teacher and Carl the TA was the man!!!! Carl ran the class
Very nice and generous teacher, but is not clear at all. Comes in 5+ min late every day, and is very scattered. Does not explain material.. you will prob. have to get a tutor. Makes optional days which is nice and posts sample/old tests for every exam which is nice. Will do good if you learn the material on your own and practice/study ALOT
Ms. Dempster is a very nice professor, but often she moves through questions, and material very fast. At times it is hard to keep up, but other then that she is a good teacher.
Super Awesome ! She knows her stuff well , easy exams , super easy extra points ! Want A+? Know how to do the problems and take her ~!
Mrs. Dempster is an awesome teacher. She's really nice and helpful. All of the notes and old tests are posted online along with extra practice problems to work on. Definitely take her if you can!
pretty good
Knows what she's saying but doesn't know how to teach. It's basically like watching her do math problems as she mumbles to herself. She doesn't teach the material needed to do the problems until no one can solve them. If you get ahead in hw all you do in class is sit and watch her give people the answers, everything gets pushed back if asked for.
Great professor. Really willing to help her students. Has a tendency to talk a little too fast but she is aware of it and will slow down if you ask. Fairly easy too.
Ms. Dempster is a really a wonderful teacher, and I really enjoyed taking her class. She is hilarious during her classes and really explains the material well. Her classes fly by. Make sure to ask help when you need it.
She extends due dates for all the homework and Maple. She puts out tons of practice work so you know what to expect on her exams. Just a really, really nice woman, very willing to help you with anything. Definitely recommend.
Mrs. Dempster is very passionate about math, but talks very quickly and recognizes it. She is okay with slowing down and going back to previous notes. My only complaint is she sometimes skips steps when working out problems, but will always go back and explain if asked. I definitely recommend her!
I did not enjoy my class with Ms. Dempster. I felt like I learned nothing from going to class, and got a good grade because I used a tutor and online videos for pre-calc concepts. She was often late to class, blaming traffic (with Starbucks cup in hand), she then raced through content, which left me confused. Didn't make herself available.
She's a great teacher. She extends due dates very often. Don't expect curve. The tests are almost exactly like her old tests, which she posts online. If you email her, she'll respond and will help you in class or during office hours. Just ask.
Super easy class. Did a great job teaching as long as you aren't stupid and have some basic concept of math. Made Friday classes optional as well which was nice. I got an A+ with relative ease.
Dempster is a wonderful teacher who wants to help you no matter what. She explains things great and her tests are easier than the other math teachers'. She also offers extra credit and grade extensions. She really just wants you to learn and do well. She is also very nice.
She's good
Calculus never really clicked for me, not even with her. But I'm here to say that she's a good professor regardless of the grade I made in her class. She genuinely cares about her students, will pause on a slide to let them write longer, and her office hours are incredibly helpful. She was at Duke, so she knows her stuff. Very approachable.
Ms. D is one of the best teachers that I have ever had. She embodies just about everything you want in a calculus teacher: she's approachable, energetic, patient, and very good at explaining things. She is very helpful with homework, and posts ample amounts of extra resources/problems/notes on the moodle page. Tests are very manageable.
Ms. Dempster was usually late to class yet had time to go to Starbucks. She would only do examples on the problems and would race through them. The only reason I knew what was going on was because of a tutor who was more helpful than she was. I would not recommend her as a professor.
Mrs. Dempster is phenomenal. She made Thursday classes optional the entire semester, & sometimes gave extra credit for something super easy. Tests weren't awful, as long as you know what she goes over in class. She is EXTREMELY helpful, approachable, & gives an insane amount of resources, notes, & practice problems for you to use. Highly recommend.
This class was super easy! Ms. Dempster normally has optional class on Fridays that are only used for extra help.
Easy class thankfully. Once you figure out her system of pretests, try its, and homework, the class is really straight forward and easy to get through. She's helpful and is willing to explain material to students.
As an English major accidentally taking an Engineering math course I was surprised at how easy calculus was with Dempster. Although she can sometimes go to fast or mumble, just ask her to slow down or go back over a problem and she will. I looked at the textbook maybe once because she posts so many great resources on moodle. I highly recommend her.
She was very approachable, willing to help, and wants to see you succeed. Lectures are often taught on a very fast paced schedule but if you put the time in you can get the grades you want. Tests are tough but fair- nothing on them that she did not warn about.
Ms. Dempster was awesome. She would give you every opportunity to bring up your grade with extra credit and would make most Fridays optional for people that didn't need the help or study class. Her tests were more difficult than expected but overall they weren't terrible.
Ms. Dempster is a professor who seems like she enjoys teaching, and brings some humor into lectures often. She gave significant extra credit on exams post-test, although this was the first semester she had done this. The lectures are boring, however, but she usually tries to explain things extensively.
Miss Dempster is a very nice lady and a great math teacher. She is very personable with her students and is kind during and after lecture. She pushes back all the maple deadlines so that's a plus. I'd take her again if she offered the math I needed.
She is very good at explaining the material, is extremely kind, and will regrade anything you think is an issue. She's one of the best professors I've had.
Such a sweet lady!! Was willing to help in any way possible. Tests are just like the practice tests that she posts online on WebAssign. There's weekly WebAssigns, but they're nothing to stress over. Overall, awesome prof!
She is really nice, always helps out and goes over tough Webassign problems instead of telling students to figure it out on their own because it's homework. Realizes that students have other stuff going on and pushes back Maple due dates which is very helpful. Taking any future math classes with her that i can.
Really nice professor who will extend Maple and WebAssign if need be, which shows she cares more about you truly understanding the material rather than trying to get homework done. She occasionally gave extra credit, but the tests are very fair either way (do the practice). She seems to care about teaching and it shows in her lectures.
MA 141 is really easy class. Dempster makes it easier. Simply, if you an A take her, and u don't even have to study much. Her lectures might not be the best, but she gives a lot of extra credit and her tests aren't hard at all.
Ms. Dempster was amazing, she was extremely nice and taught in a way that everyone understood. She took the time to explain what ever we miss (since she can get carried away when it comes to pace) and she cared so much about what we thought. In addition to all of that, --cherry on top-- she gives extra credit!! You wont regret taking her!
Ms. D is a pretty good calc teacher. She does give a little bit of extra credit to A FEW people for every test. The test are the hardest questions you'll have to do. Most of the time she reuses/uses similar questions as she does in class. She talks crazy fast and just goes over example problems, doesn't really explain it. I have to read the textbk!
Very great teacher. I recommend.
Ms. Dempster is really sweet as a person but not the best at teaching math. This class wasn't too hard for me, I just didn't like her teaching style very much. She always breezed through the lessons and ended class early, which is nice if you understand. She will help you if you stay after class and ask though. I had to teach myself everything.
Imagine if you took a class where your friend's mom taught the class. This is basically Liz Dempster. Gives you opportunities for extra credit if you want it. In high school I had taken IB sl Math, and this class wasn't bad. If you do all of the practice tests and worksheets (she gives you plenty), there's no reason to not get an A.
Mrs. Dempster is a sweet lady who wants you to do well. She posts old tests that are very similar to the actual tests she gives you. The material is not difficult. Although she may teach quickly, she teaches very well. I can't wait to have her for 241.
Not very strict. Will help you if you need help. Very reasonable and tests are straightforward and relatively easy.
I highly recommend Mrs. Dempster. She is clear in her explanations and is very reasonable and understanding to the students. Nice person as well.
Mrs. Dempster is a great professor! She makes the material really easy to understand and she understand that the students in her class have other responsibilities as well as her class. She is really nice and her lectures are pretty fun.
Ms. Dempster is a solid pick if you are taking MA141. She gives you plenty of problems to go over before tests, and she usually makes thursday or friday classes optional to go to, which is really nice. I always felt prepared when going into her tests. And she got us cookies one time!
Very kind and helpful.
Good teacher. She talks fast but if you can keep up everything will make sense. Lots of examples in her notes and is very good about posting resources online. Will take again.
Dempster definitely made the material clear and easy to understand. 9/10 recommend! She is also more than willing to work with students.
I didn't take calculus in high school and placed into MA 141, so I took it with Dempster. She's caring and will work with you to help you pass, but she's not a great lecturer and can be kind of confusing. The tests were a real time crunch & more complex than the problems worked in class. I just couldn't keep up in this class with no background.
I took MA 141 as a review, but Mrs. Dempster made the class fun and a lot easier to understand than my teacher in high school, and I am taking her again for 241.
awesome attitude and willing to be reasonable and helpful. Wants students to succeed.
The coursework is difficult, but Dempster tries to make sure everyone is on the same page. The textbook is rarely required but VERY helpful. Notes are posted on the Moodle, so even though she takes attendance you can miss a few classes and still do well.
Attendance is taken, but notes are posted to Moodle at the end of class. Makes sure everyone understands the material. Grading is straightforward. Will schedule office hours if extra help is needed. Textbook is rarely used but a very good resource.
Attendance is taken, but notes are posted to Moodle after class. Explains concepts multiple ways and tries to make sure everyone understands the material. Will arrange office hours for extra help if needed. Textbook isn't really used, but is a very good resource.
Dempster is a down-to-earth professor who knows the material well. She's a self-described "fast-talker", but frequently compensates for this--meaning she slows herself and leaves room for questions and h/w review--to ensure that everyone understands the material. She frequently bumps back due dates, even at students' requests. Grading is fair.
Ms. Dempster is a very fun and friendly teacher. She can run through the material a bit too fast sometimes but gives a lot of time for questions and review. Thursdays were usually optional days for review. Textbook is online and free, so that was convenient. She's very flexible with dates, and pushes back webassign and maple if you ask her to
Mrs. Dempster is really sweet and kind. She has decent homework and great office hours and will respond to emails within 24 hours, but usually gets it before two hours are up. Tests are challenging but fair, and she gives out candy and makes math fun!
She reminds me of my mom so I avoided speaking to her 1 on 1 all semester. She teaches through examples. Writes under projector but everything that goes on that paper is online, attendance not mandatory. V funny. Does HW WebAssign problems in class and extends them without warning b/c she's pretty nice.
Really sweet woman, would want her to be my mother. BUT, not a good teacher. She doesn't give normal notes, only examples. If I looked back in my notebook, I don't think I'd understand any of it. Her lectures are kind of all the class has, and those aren't even good. I ended up having to teach myself hours before tests.
What a hero! She's really one of the nicest people I've ever met, extends webassigns like crazy, and maple by 2-3 weeks(and if you ask her, she'll extend it some more because she's the best!) Her notes are awesome (although at the end she didn't explain some concepts pretty well) her tests are a breeze(just like ex in class) all round coolest prof!
Mrs. Dempster is unlike any other professor at NCSU. She's incredibly friendly and understanding, even though the subject can be difficult at times. Gives tons of extensions and extra credit as long as you're a good student and not just slacking off. I wish I could have her as a professor for every college math course.
Ms. Dempster is absolutely fantastic. TAKE HER FOR WHATEVER YOU CAN!!! She extends Maple and Webassign deadlines all the time and her tests are super reasonable. She will also do any Webassign problem in class if you email her about it. A seriously fantastic woman and teacher.
BEST CALCULUS TEACHER EVER. Beats every other teacher. I would definitely with no doubt take her again for any class I might have. SHE IS THE BEST. Take her with no regrets I promise you.
She is a great teacher! If you don't understand something she will make review times for you. I would love her to be my teacher again!
I love her! She was always accessible and understanding. She also is extremely funny and kind. You have one homework every week but it was not bad at all and she will work the problem for you in class if you don't know how to do it. She is super funny and really wants you to pass!
She is probably one of the best Math teacher's at NCSU. She won't hesitate to explain something all over again too. She loves what she teaches. If you pay attention and practice then tests would be an easy A+. She is caring and helpful. Office hours are the best. I have myself visited many times and got my doubts solved. Look out for extra credits!
She's a great professor very helpful in and out of class. Gives extensions on the WebAssigns.
She is a super great teacher!! She holds lots of office hours if that's something you need. I was in MA 107 with her and it was a breeze, I finished with a strong A. You will have webassign homeworks with multiple submissions so you don't have to get them righto the first try. The tests are over smaller sections and easy to do.
She is so nice and really wants everyone to do well. Gives extra credit multiple times and is very fair with what she puts on the test. Really good teacher overall.
Mrs. Dempster is so sweet, she cares about her students! Lectures were kinda boring but she is super organized, posts EVERYTHING on moodle (tons of extra videos), and makes herself available whenever you need. If you do the moodle work and webassigns you will be fine. I hate math but easily got an A in this class. Good way to prepare for Calc 1.
Ms. Dempster is super kind and is also very good at conveying general topics to her students. She is CONSTANTLY extending homework deadlines and is always giving out points for extra credit on tests. Speaking as someone who has never really been good at math, Dempster is a great option for taking precalc!
Her notes are not the clearest, but other than that, she's a great professor
Dempster is a kind and caring professor but her tests are pretty difficult. She doesn't provide anything useful to prepare for the actual test itself, so knowing which material to focus studying for can be difficult. She also has a tendency to come late into class but other than that she's a pretty well-rounded professor.
Sweetest professor ever. LOVED her. Go to office hours and extra hours and she will help you out!
Mrs. Dempster teaches a college course the way it should be taught. She gets straight to the point during lecture of how to solve problems, the homework questions are relevant and of appropriate difficulty, and you're never drowning in work. It's up to you to study as much as you need. I had this class at 8:30 AM and actually didn't dread it.
The class can be difficult at times, but she is very accessible and will always be there to help you. There are a lot of Webassigns, but don't feel pressured about the dues dates as she often pushes them back when she sees people are struggling. As long as you pay attention and ask for help, you will do well.
She allowed people to just show up on the day of the test if they wanted to, you just wouldn't get a webassign bonus if you missed more than 5 classes. She's very caring. Doesn't like people on their phones or laptops. The practice session is helpful so get the most out of it. You can get points for doing examples on the board.
Dempster is a great teacher, but her lectures are very rushed. Often times, I left the class more confused. Also, our TA wasn't very informative either, and would not really explain the concepts well enough. But on a positive note, she did help a lot during her office hours, and explained concepts that I found confusing and is super nice too!
She's the GOAT.
Dempster was such a great Calc teacher and was always accessible if you needed help. She often pushed back webassign due dates if she saw a students struggling with a certain topic. With that said, this class DOES make you work for it. I had no prior calculus background (just pre-calc) so definitely PRACTICE many problems in the textbook/on moodle!
Awesome professor! She made my first semester easier and I really enjoyed taking MA141 with her. She was always really clear on what would be on the exams and did tons of practice problems in class. She was also helpful with the Webassigns and very understanding toward her students.
easily the best professor I had freshman year. this woman is a gem
Best professor for getting a good foundation of Calculus! Her practice were almost exactly like her actual tests! Very helpful in office hours, and she was always willing to do homework problems in class. My only complaint was that tended to be a little unorganized and late sometime but nothing too bad. Will take her for Calc 1!
Mrs. Dempster is one of the best math teachers I have ever had and definitely one of the better calculus teachers at NC State. Class was very easy for me, especially since I took AP Calc in high school. I still think it was an easy A for people that had never taken calculus before. Definitely take her if you can!!
Provides study guides but purposely gives completely different type of questions on the actual exams. Also, her math on the study guides are wrong, misleading/confusing students trying to study for her exams. Probably grades exams incorrectly as well b/c of it. Talks way too fast in lecture to possibly comprehend or understand any key concepts.
Very sweet professor. I took calc in high school but the way Professor Dempster explains the material is definitely way better and more understandable. Gives practice tests as review and they help with the exams. Sometimes the questions aren't the same as the practice but as long as you understand the concepts you'll do fine.
Dempster is so nice and genuinely cares about her students. Her tests are comparable to the practice tests she gives out, not hard if you prepare well. She speaks very very fast and sometimes can be confusing in lectures, but she is open to students raising hands and asking for clarification or helping during office hours.
Mrs. Dempster is great and will answer any questions during class or office hours. She goes quickly through examples, but doesn't explain all the steps, meaning you are exposed to all possible questions for tests, but if you haven't taken calc before, it can be very confusing. It moves fast, but recitation helps clarify information and so will she!
Amazing professor. She doesnt make the class easy, but she make the class make sense. No one should have a problem with the class. She post her notes online after class because you missed something and she delays homework a lot. She give out old test to study which sometime have the same problems 11/10 teacher. The best In the NCSU math department
She's so sweet, she moves through the content quickly but you can tell she really cares about students. Makes things really understandable and encourages students to ask if they need calrification or have any questions questions.
Out of all the teachers I have had, Mrs. Dempster is by far the best. She teaches the material in class and she realizes that you have a life. If you need help, she will help. She will postponed a rest because she did not want us to have it on the same day as a physics test. She give practice test that are pretty much whats on the test. 10/10.
Made calc I fun and engaging. Very accessible outside of class and willing to go out of her way to help students succeed. Great prof.
Bets professor you could possibly hope for! I have taken her for two levels of calculus and she makes it math actually enjoyable. She has fantastic lectures and is always available to help. She also tests incredibly fairly. I can not recommend her enough!
It's impossible not to love Dempster. She's so down to earth, is very willing to help you, and understands that life happens sometimes. It can take her a bit to answer emails, but she is very accessible during office hours, so go to those if you need questions answered. 100% would recommend for 141. Super bummed she isn't teaching 241.
Ms. Dempster is very sweet and a great teacher. Pre recorded lectures and Webassign homework, and it actually works. Her class made it very easy to learn and there is no busy work. Tests were just like homework questions. Highly recommend her!
I found Ms. Dempster to provide a great balance of enough information while not wasting my time. The tests were graded pretty generously and she did her best to make class via zoom more personal. The lectures were prerecorded because of COVID, so you're accountable for learning the material. I would recommend her.
Ms. Dempster is an incredibly sweet lady who is always willing to accommodate the needs of her students. She explains concepts well and will always make time for going over tricky homework problems. It is clear that she truly cares for her students.
Ms. Dempster is super sweet and her lectures are fun. For Calc 1 there was another professor giving supplemental lectures but they really aren't good.
Really engaging lectures, super nice and tries to interact with as many students as possible. She's also very accommodating if you are having trouble with the material or if the class as a whole is struggling with something.
I was terrible at calc in HS and terrified of college calculus. Ms. Dempster however is absolutely the best professor I could have gotten for the class. Any questions I had she answered and she genuinely cared about how I was doing academically and personally. Overall great person and great teacher. I learned a lot and am doing well in Calc 3 now.
Very in-depth lectures, very kind and helpful in explaining, lovely instructor! Like most math professors, do not have control over WebAssign homework, due to the math department but is quite helpful regardless.
I took this class as my first calculus at State. She was fantastic! Quite a few opportunities for extra credit, nice color-coded notes that were easy to follow, and online tests (for the fall 2021 semester at least). She was very easy to reach outside of class and the recitation was very helpful too. I understood all of the material she taught.
Ms. Dempster is definitely the best Calc teacher at NC State from what I've experienced and heard. She actually teaches material well and will slow down if you ask her to. She's very understanding and will listen to the students' opinions.
Dempster is best calc professor at State. She has online exams which she allows us to have a sheet of equations and helpful notes. She is very personable and TA's are amazing. She does move very fast in lectures but she wants to be told to slow down when needed so just be up front with her and you will do well in the class
Literally one of the best lecturers for a notoriously difficult course. Very accommodating to students.
Dempster is the best calc teacher I have had in my life. Her lectures are fantastic and she is very accommodating to students, easy to approach, and makes sure you get the help you need. She is one of the most helpful profs I have had and makes calc very manageable. Content is still tough but you will get through it and be better for it.
Funny, caring, kind, and the best MA 241 lectures by far.
Madam Dempy is hilarious. Hilariously easy. You have a choice, to learn or not to learn, choose poorly.
I love the demp, I would die for this woman. She's so nice, this class itself is hard but she tries to make it easy by going over a lot of examples and giving hints for the homework. Tests were online, but final is in person (might change), her TA's are nice and easy to talk to, she allowed equation sheets on test and final, wish she taught 242
Dempster is one of the best clac profs at State. She is super caring/understanding and truly wants to see her students succeed. I highly recommend using the note outlines that she provides on her Moodle page (I found these to be very helpful). Her test are also very fair (will be similar to examples done in lecture).
Ms. Dempster is an extremely passionate mathematics professor. She's hilarious, caring, wants you to succeed. There is only one issue, this woman does NOT slow down. Be prepared to be overwhelmed during her lectures just by the sheer speed she works, its impressive. Lectures are recorded though so you can review. Tests are pretty straight forward.
Mrs. Dempster shouldn't be associated with a dumpster. She is the best calc professor I have ever had. Posts notes online and provides practice tests which makes it clear what you need to know for the test. Highly recommend.
SHE IS THE SWEETEST LADY. Amazing teacher, small class size, and will answer any questions you have.
Overall she's a great person and I can see her being a good professor for other classes but it seemed like MA 111 wasnt her priority. She introduced a new class structure which expected 9 hours of work outside of one 40min class per week. It was basically just teach yourself out of a textbook. Tests are 6/7 questions so you cant miss much.
The lectures are engaging and helpful. She provides tons of resources to help you succeed such as practice tests, all of the class notes, practice questions, etc... Many opportunities to gain extra credit too. 10/10 would recommend
Wonderful professor. I loved the way the class was run, she made the material super manageable, and made sure to give her students plenty of opportunities to succeed. Absolutely loved her. I would highly recommend Dempster.
I have a 96 going into the final, she gives lots of examples and shows how problems need to be done snd posts all of her worked out notes on Moodle. I cannot recommend her enough. Very accommodating professor that respects her students. 10/10 teacher and person.
She is by far my favorite professor I have ever had. I am horrible at math and always struggled to just barely pass but Ms Dempster goes above and beyond to help her students succeed. She offers extra credit on tests and and gives out more than enough notes/examples to help you. She will not hesitate to offer help and is very encouraging:)))
Mrs. Dempster was honestly the best for calc I. She really cares about her students and wants us to succeed. Attendance isn't mandatory and she's really understanding when it comes to mental health days and is very flexible with extensions. She also drops your lowest homework scores and her tests are really similar to the practice tests on Moodle.
One of the sweetest professors ever, she was a true joy to have in the classroom and really cared about each of us. You do most of the learning on your own time with the lecture videos so she's really only there for support. Not an easy class dont get me wrong, but she gives many extra credit opportunities and lots of partial credit
Hi everybody, last semester I took MA 111 with Mrs. Dempster. I would definitely recommend taking her because she really goes into depth about how the math works out, she takes her time to make sure the class fully understands the material before moving on, overall, she's a class act professor and I was fortunate to have a seat in her class.
Dempster is such a lovely and kind professor! She loves math and is always willing to help you. The class itself is hybrid, so lectures are online; I personally didn't use to textbook. Would recommend her to anyone who's looking for a good math professor!
Dempster is a math mom. She cares about her students and it shows. I 100% recommend taking her. She really wants to see her students succeed and will help in any way possible. She can talk fast, but there's a lot of material to cover in 50min class times but her detailed notes make up for it. She's so sweet and approachable, I love this woman.
Dr. Dempster is an amazing professor. She teaches the material effectively and cares about her students. Her tests are super fair, and the questions are less difficult than the ones provided in Webassign. She tests students based on their understanding of topics rather than being able to complete the most difficult problems. Would 100% recommend :)
I do not think I will get a teacher better than her. She was always helpful in and out of class. I emailed her a couple times about webassign errors and she instantly gave me extra tries no questions asked. She even posts her office hour question solutions with work provided to help students struggling on the same problems.
I don't understand how professor Dempster can receive a score lower than a 5. This was one of the best professors I've had for math and her course relieved so much of the anxiety that I had prior to taking calculus. The material is hard but as long as you try on the exams and HW, you will be fine. She gives credit if you're on the right track!
She talks very fast and quietly. It's hard to know when she says something important because she doesn't emphasize anything. Tests were 60% of my grade but partial credit for questions were super lenient. Lots of homework but keep on top of it and it's not too bad. Just make sure to sit in the front and do and understand the homework.
DO NOT take this class if MA131 is what you need. Ms Dempster was awesome, but the content is so challenging and the TA is the worst explainer ever. Lots of homework grades and a couple extra credit opportunities, but it doesn't make up for how difficult this class is if you are not an engineer/math brained person. Save yourself the headache.
This class is difficult and has barely any grades. You will have to rely on tests to past the class and the tests are very short with 6-7 questions and none being multiple choice. There is a lot of homework, sometimes having around 50 questions of homework due in one night and on top of that, the homework is harder than the test questions.
Mrs. D is amazing! Her lectures are very clear and understandable. She posts many resources to go over and study before tests, even goes over tough homework problems in class. I took her last semester in 11. She is an overall great person and professor.
Dempster was amazing. She was very clear in her lectures and always worked out a problem. She made sure that everybody understood and if they didn't she will go to that extra length in making sure you understand.
Ms. Dempster is amazing!! I'm a sophomore now but I had her in the fall of my freshman year and this class was a breeze. She is very understanding and teaches in a way that is easy to comprehend and prepares you well for tests. She is very good about curving exams/giving extra credit if the whole class does poorly.
Ms. Dempster is the best professor that anyone could ask for. She posts the class notes that are extremely organized and easy to follow. She is also very funny and thoughtful. Her tests are a large part of the course grade but she makes them fair and offers extra credit majority of the time. I personally didn't like the TA but she made up for it.
Professor Dempster is one of my favorite teachers so far I've had at NC State. I have struggled before in Pre-Calc in high school, but Professor Dempster always gave opportunities for questions and would help with some homework questions after class if needed. Even in a hybrid class and learning modules online, I learned so much.
She was so nice and caring. I really loved having her. Her lectures made sense and she was easy to email for questions. WebAssign was a huge thing but she understood and will help with any questions if you ask. I would absolutely recommend taking her if you can!
Professor Dempster was an amazing teacher. She explained things really well so you could understand the concept behind the math you were doing. And she cared about her students and would even bring in treats from time to time. She was also easily accessible through email and would post help with homework problems.
I love professor dempster so much, she goes a little fast in lecture but if you ask for help during the office hours she will work out your problem with you to make sure you understand. She picks amazing TA's and gives partial credit as she understands you are learning the material. I am not good at calculus but I still enjoyed the class.
Dempster was a great professor and definitely the best for MA141. My only issues with her were that she teaches material very fast and that the tests and the exam make up 80% of your grade. But she is really kind and understanding to her students. Overall, she is great and there are a lot of advantages to taking her class.
Professor Dempster is amazing! She truly is a caring and understanding professor. Professor Dempster gave us lots of extra credit opportunities and explained material very well. The homework and class notes were easy to follow. However, incoming MA 111 students will need great study habits because you mostly have to rely on tests to pass.
Such an amazing professor! Dr. Dempster is a truly kind person who cares about her student's success. She will work with you and always encourage you in class and in office hours. Always gives time to ask questions. I thought the class was pretty easy but it was definitely due in part to how great Dempster is.
Ms. D was the best math teacher i have ever had. She made math fun to learn, made it a point to learn some of us by name which made it feel like a much more personal class. Tests were exactly like the practice tests she posts. She gives extra credit and martial credit on tests so the tests are not very hard.
Great professor. Learned some of us by name which made the class feel much more personal. Very accessible outside of class, responds to emails quickly, holds office hours often. Gives extra credit as well as partial credit for tests
While I decided to grade replace this class because I would not pass it, none of it was on Mrs.Dempster. I do not recommend taking this class in the 5 days a week. Mrs.Dempster was amazing and was very supportive of me when I decided to grade exclude halfway through the semester. She greatly cares about student mental health!
Professor Dempster is an amazing math teacher. She explains concepts clearly and is very accessible, responding to emails quickly. While the coursework can be challenging, her use of partial credit and extra credit opportunities make it manageable. I found unstuckstudy super helpful for studying alongside the course materials.
She speaks pretty fast, but you can always rewatch the lectures. Grading for tests is very lenient with the partial credit.
She is a very nice and lenient but goes way too fast. In my personal experience and opinion, she doesn't really teach the lesson. She just does the work and shows you. It is difficult to explain but most the time I felt as if I was watching her do the material and not being taught the material. I always have to rewatch the lectures after a class.
highly recommend her, everyone says she's fast but I kept up with her fine. she knows she goes fast you can just tell her to slow down if needed. Calc is still calc I don't like math but she's the way to go. very understanding, gives lots of practice material, makes clear what's on tests. Her practice tests are what's on the real tests so do those!
Dempster was a pretty good math teacher. Her lectures explained the concepts very well. The homework had many attempts and was fairly easy. The coursework overall was not to heavy and she was always trying to help individuals who didn't understand.
A lot of people think she talks too fast but I never ran into an issue with it. She posts all the notes and livestreams and records the lectures. She replaces lowest test grade with exam. Truly cares about student's individual success in her course and did a great job at catering towards needs even being in such a large class.
The 2, does not completely reflect her. If you are bad at math, don't take class. If you're good at math, you'll probably be fine if I had to guess. If she slowed down, didn't skip steps, and explained work more, I would rate her higher. Her tests are harder than she will lead you to believe. Caring person, just not a class for those bad at math.
Very good teacher. I have always struggle in math and I have already taken precalc once in highschool. I finally understood it. She gives multiple videos and homework to help you understand. Go over the practice test before the test and you are basically guaranteed an A.
She was a great professor and I had taken her for 141 as well as 111 she gives great lectures and is very helpful. Not only does she understand the material, but she is able to teach and communicate it to her students. Attendance is not mandatory/does not affect your grade, but she is required to take it.
Great Teacher! Took her for MA 121, the class consists of webassign homework, 3 tests, and one final exam. She records her lectures and is willing to help during office hours.
Attendance doesn't impact your grade, so you can just watch the lectures online if you want. Material is easy if you're decent at math. Definitely recommend doing practice problems from the textbook and redoing all homework problems for tests. She is nice, but sometimes she just does the problems instead of really teaching them. Pretty chill class.
Loved her! She cares and will go out of her way to help students. She just wants to see everyone succeed and made class enjoyable. Attendance wasn't mandatory but it helped me a lot to go.
She should be the only professor that's allowed to teach anything, because everybody else would do it worse. She could teach calculus to a bag of spring mix, even if it was expired. Inshallah, I would take a bear attack for her. Take her class.
Loved her and her class! She is great at teaching calculus and always makes sure to let people ask questions, especially during the tricker concepts. Attendance is not required and she records all the lectures which is so nice when you don't feel like going to class.
If you pay attention its easy. Textbook is not necessary to buy. Her webassigns are due 11pm not midnight so be careful. Great teacher and makes calc simple.
Professor Dempster is by far my favorite teacher at NCSU. She provides an immaculate amount of practice problems and worksheets to hone your calculus skills. Problems on her "Review Day" worksheets (given a week before tests) sometimes appear on the test itself, usually in an easier iteration than what appeared on the practice. A wonderful teacher!
She is very kind and dedicated to helping students. Calculus was very difficult for me, but she makes learning it a lot easier. She speaks kinda fast, which is why I preferred watching the lectures online, but she still does a good job teaching
One of the best professors here at State. Explains the material very well, cares a lot for students and their grades, and is a very funny personality. Calc is pretty difficult, but Professor Dempster makes it a bit easier and a lot more fun.
She encourages asking questions and answers them thoroughly. There were extra credit opportunities prior to every test along with bonus points on the test. Working through the worksheets provided in recitation and for class notes is the best way to prepare for exams. HW due dates would change often, so check for it everyday. Great professor!
The reviews are true, Dempster is the goat. A great lecturer and great person. So glad I chose to take calculus in college, she made it pretty easy and interesting
Professor Dempster is one of the best and most caring Calculus teachers I've ever had. Her lectures are easy to understand, and the tests are more than fair. Calculus is not easy, but Professor Dempster does her best making the material understandable for everyone.
One of the best professors at NCSU, by far. Her lectures are fun and helpful, and even though attendance isn't required, it's worth going. Homework load is managable. The 3 exams and final are easy and match the class and homework. She posts practice tests before each exam, and she's super kind, she even gave out candy one day!
She's honestly one the the best professors a NC state. She's so kind and explains everything. I love her lecture style and how she teaches thru videos. She also gives little cheat sheets through the semester.
Fantastic professor, incredibly effective teaching style. There won't be much I can say that hasn't been said a hundred times already, but she's really great. Explains the material very clearly and has fair tests that follow a similar format to the practice tests she posts. Take her for any math.
Great professor! Gave clear explanations and made tests very straightforward. She's very open to questions, so don't be afraid to ask them, and she is super nice. Also allows you to replace your lowest test grade with the final exam.
