First and foremost, Mrs. Dinkelman's class almost entirely involves MyMathLab, so be sure to buy it. Second, although her actual teaching style isn't the best, she's very sympathetic when following the Powerpoint notes, assisting with troublesome HW problems, and helping study for tests, and even removing one low test grade. Definitely a nice woman
This professor is a really nice lady, but she only goes through powerpoints and often is unable to answer your questions. If you care about learning the material, please take somebody else, or you will spend a lot of time trying to learn on your own because she will only teach you how to memorize formulas.
Get ready to use MyMathLab to complete all homework assignments not the book. She's willing to give open notes for exams which saved my grade so much. She is clear to understand even with her accent. You will need a TI 8384 calculator to save yourself time on solving the equations manually. I got through using a TI30x but it was limited in use.
Ms. Dinkelman is a good teacher. Lectures are boring but that is to be expected. The tests are exactly like the practice tests and she does not do anything to trick you. Be ready to do a lot of homework that is challenging but helpful. Overall a good teacher
I left her class not feeling like I learned much of anything. Boring lectures. She read off slides. My Math Lab is a MUST! Final was open notes. The class itself was self taught. I passed with an A magically even though I failed a couple exams. Be prepared to watch BBC videos the entire semester. Shes unenthusiastic and calls the material boring.
Fine teacher. She doesn't really explain a lot. She goes though power points that sometimes are not helpful. I blame me for not studying enough, the professor was alright. Homework is very important(15% of your grade), 4 tests and the final (each 17%) your lowest grade gets replaced by the grade you get on the final. She doesn't give good notes.
Professor Dinkelman is actually not a bad professor. Her lectures are sort of boring, but her exams are pretty easy. She gives out exam reviews for every chapter and the exams are almost exactly the same. Her class does require My Math Lab, so I suggest you do the homework and you will pass her class.
Imma be straight up with everyone who looks at this and imma say that this lady isn't prepared for her class or lectures. She "knows her stuff" but reads off slides like her life depends on them. I'm sure one of the students in my class could teach better than her.
Lectures are incredibly boring, she even says it so herself. She doesn't like taking time to go over things, and sets a rushed and boring environment.
All you had to do were online homework, she also gave the easiest tests and if people complained about questions being too hard she would omit those from everyone's score. She is a very nice British lady, and if you get 100s on every homework you will get an A. Plus you have as many times as you need to get a 100 on the homework.
honestly she is the sweetest. her tests are easy but it's hard to learn from her but she's not the worst. she goes really fast so the whole class is basically self taught. good luck.
4 Tests (no cumulative final). HW from textbook, checked on test day. Course is a sample course over mathematics, and is pretty easy as a result. Our class had two students who asked too many questions but Prof. was very patient and helped them throughout the semester. Lecture is usually pretty boring, but easy to understand.
I'm not saying you shouldn't take her because she's a hard grader or she gives a lot of homework. I'm saying you shouldn't take her because she will not do anything to help you pass and she will not teach you anything.
I think she was a great professor for this level of math class. MyMathLab was actually really helpful for me b/c you could redo homework problems a million times till you get it right, so you LEARN better. She posted her powerpoints on blackboard so you could always go back which was super helpful. I started with an F and rose to A! U can do it too
She's a nice lady, but she kinda doesn't teach much. She reads off the slides and doesn't doesn't go much deeper than that. MyMathLab is kinda you're only hope when it comes to learning so you're pretty much teaching yourself. If you have to pick between her and an online class just take the online class.
she is a nice person, but id not want to take her because if you are not a math person you will fail her class.
Prof. Dinkelman is ok, however, she only reads off the slides and assigns an absurd amount of homework on MyMathLab that is due at the end of every week. 4 tests with cumulative final, and each test you could use an index card with as much info as you could fit. Seriously, I wouldn't take the class unless you plan to teach yourself the whole course
This was my second time taking Math 152. I took it first with Nasseri and failed the class. She was the absolute worse and you could NOT even use a calculator. However, Professor Dinkelman has been extremely helpful and the best math professor I've had at Nova!!! TAKE HER TAKE HER
Lots of homework involved with MyMathLab. Before each exam, Mrs. Dinkelman provides practice problems that are very similar to actual exams. Some exams include problems from MML homework, so make sure you know how to solve every single problem in MML. During exam, she provides cheat sheet that covers most part of Trigonometry.
She did not know what she was talking about half of the time! She reads off of the slides, does not explain questions thoroughly, and doesn't care if you pass or not. The only reason I passed her class was because of MyMathLab. This class was more of an online class! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU WANT TO TEACH YOURSELF.
she doesn't like to explain the problems and goes through slides quickly without putting in time to her class.
Honestly she's great, she gets a bad rap but she's pretty legit. I wanted to also say caring and accessible after class, but for some reason I can only highlight three things. She tries to make the class fun and is receptive of feedback.
So easy, she gives cheat sheets and even makes her practice questions pretty close to the actual exam questions. She may read off the slides sometimes, but she is willing to help.
Goes fast but is very chill. I honestly don't see where all the hate here is from.
she is the best math professor. attendance is not mandatory and her power points are easy to understand. so you wont miss anything if you skip class. tests are easy and exactly like homework. you want to get an A? take her class!
shes super nice, but a horrible professor. all she does is read off the slides, and she doesnt explain anything in depth. if you're not good at math, you will fail her class.
Professor Dinkelman just reads off her PPT slides and then gives practice worksheets which help a lot because they are very similar to the test questions. She also requires MML, which is also helpful. The class is extremely boring though and she is not a good teacher. That being said, there aren't really any good math teachers at nova, so she's ok.
This course is online so be prepared to learn on your own. Professor Dinkelman does the best she can to help you be prepared for the exams. MyMathLab homeworks are tedious so be ready for that. You must pass both exams or you automatically fail the course. I am not the greatest at math so you can guess how that worked out for me. Goodluck!
Give f if you don't pass the final. Do not take her unless you are a good test taker.
This is the worst professor I had at NOVA. She doesn't really explain well. I had to study everything by myself. Would never recommend her. Exams are very hard.
she drops lowest test score for you, also she has a grading curve per test. i am in applied calculus and she is a great professor, long as you show up to class and do the hw her class should be an easy B at minimum.
Professor D. is amazing! Tests are not hard. If you come to class and do the homework - you will get an A.
I agree with the last person, she's really good. and i also think the last person commented is really cute!
Professor Dinkelman was never hesistant to answer any questions in detail. Mtt 166 is a 5 credit course so there was a decent amount of homework, but it was all on my math labs which was a very helpful tool. She also gives a total of 4% extra credit. Tests were very similiar to study guide and she lets you use a notecard! Great teacher I reccomend
If you are taking MTH 166 and you have the option to select different professor, I would say go for it. She is not a best teacher and also not the worst one. She gives a lot of homework. Her slides are very decent and some people say she reads from them, which is not true. I struggled with LOGS and she said I was going to fail it, like what?
Get ready for tons of homework. She is an average teacher. Tests are really tough.
Most of the negative comments on here are bit misleading. To be fair and unbiased her lectures can get a bit boring, but she does go over her material thoroughly. Tests are fair and study guides are accurate with the tests. She also drops the lowest test score and replaces it with the final.
Her class does get boring . She tries her best to go over all materials. Her tests are tough but the study guides effectively cover what will come on the test. Not the best teacher out there , not the worst. If you Study and do the Ton of homework youll get an A I studies last moment and chose not to do the hw and ended up with a B
I liked that she was frank about what was expected of us. The homework was difficult of course, cuz it is math, but she didnt hesitate to answer all questions. We used MML which helps out a lot as well. She does reads slides because thats what the info is from, but she also works out the problems step by step on the board. I recommend her 100%!
According to me she was just fine. Most of the time you would have to study on your own if you want to get a good grade in this class. I didn't like the way she teaches in class.
I took this as one of more core classes, and didn't have any major problems. She cares about her students significantly, and is there to help you.
She is a nice lady, just a bad teacher. I have her at GMU. She does not explain anything she just reads the power point slides. I do not recommend her class at all.
I took an online class with her and she was awful. The video lectures she posts are not helpful and quite often they are only a minute or two long where she tells you to go read the examples in the textbook. She also has homework solutions uploaded to blackboard which are incomplete and include wrong answers.
She doesn't teach so I don't understand what I am paying for with this class. She has a grand total of 4 hours of lectures for the entire semester and has homework solutions which are often incomplete and disorganized.
Professor Dinkelman uses MyMathLab, which is the main reason I chose to take he class. If you learn well using that, you should do fine in her class. There's lots of homework, with that being said, but as long as you do it all you should ace the class. You also don't need to buy the book since MyMathLab comes with an online version. Fair grader.
shes horrible
she just focuses on specific student. she gets confused with her own questions. Very rude when asked about the problems.
LOTS OF HW, it's on pearson online. Very negative and blunt. Hw is mandatory, about 5 tests with the comprehensive final. Allows a cheat sheet with the test, will help after class and during office hours. If math is your worst subject, i don't recommend her; she's not patient and unforgiving for everything.
Great Professor!!! Great at office hours!! Goes over a ton of examples!! Would highly recommend!!
Very Caring Professor!! Very Fare!! She is always available for office hours! Wish I had taken her for my other math classes! Would highly recommend!
This is a difficult online class but Professor Dinkelman provided solution keys to the homework and videos which helped to read the text.
Prof. Dinkelman is a great choice for a stats teacher. Weekly homework to be expected in a math class. There is a project due at the end of the course, she is very helpful with completing it. Lecture isn't super interesting, but she is funny. Curved the grade at the end of the semester. Page of notes allowed on each exam, helpful.
She has a British accent that is entertaining at times but shouldnt get in the way as far as comprehension. I bombed a test and she gave me a HUGE curve so I could keep my A. Awesome! She is a nice teacher and explains things well.
She does not explain the material too well and goes over it briefly. If you are not good at math I highly recommend you take another teacher.
She is very overwhelming. I was taking an online class with her but ended up withdrawing. It's not just that she expects a lot of out of you, as that's totally not a problem.. This is college, after all. But, she e-mails you at all hours of the day (6 am to 11 pm, no joke), multiple times a day and they are all written with urgency.
She is the best professor of Mth 161 because I failed the first time but I passed second with her. She explains everything really good, and she cares about every kid in his class.
Solid choice for a professor, but I wish we would have gotten deeper into the ideas of the problems, rather than just memorizing mechanics. She did a swell job at introducing the concepts though, I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book by myself! I personally enjoyed the 7.1 lecture the most, more proof, writing on board and visual aid
Prof Dinkelman is a really kind person, but for calculus 3 her lectures and teaching method (going over a powerpoint, doing practice problems that sometimes she doesnt know how to do) are tough. Her tests have really basic problems, if you work hard you can get an A, do not dare procrastinate homework or studying if you take her for calc 3 (mth265)
Shes taught me before for my other math classes and every time she has shown a real desire to help students both understand the material and to succed. She is always answering student emails and I have gotten replies to my question at all hours. She has shown a great passion for the subjects covered and I would recommend her to anybody interested.
She treats her class like its an online class. Basically just reads power point the whole class and speed through them as well. Almost never writes anything on the board. Her class only has 3 exams so if you unfortunately do bad on one exam you have almost no chance of recovering you grade. Also for some reason she grades off a point system.
This is unnecessarily hard. Even if you do every homework, quiz, and practice test (and do them well), you will still tank with the exams because they are nothing like what you've done. The questions are extra challenging, which makes no sense if none of what you've done up to that point is as difficult. Calculus is tough enough as it is.
I took her MTH 265 class and got an A. If you miss a homework, she will happily extend it if you ask for an extension. The materials are not easy. So, you have to study enough to do well in the exams. Work hard and do not panic about Calc!
Her lectures are just her skimming over the textbook. She offers no insight into what you are learning and never goes into depth about anything. You will learn just about nothing from hearing her speak or reading her Powerpoint presentations, so you might as well just try and find all of your answers online because she does nothing to help you.
Professor Dinkelman is a solid choice for a math professor. I have always struggled with math, but her online course was extremely manageable. She made videos for her in-class activities in case you could not attend zoom lectures, which was helpful. 23 in-class activities, quite a bit of MyMathLab homework, and only 3 quizzes overall.
Talks extremely slow and easily puts you to sleep. She teaches like she is learning the material as she is saying it. Does not give notes that apply to work needed to be done. You'll learn the basics, but she does not teach how to apply it in problems.
Ive never had a professor like this. CHOOSE SOMEONE ELSE! She assigned around 4/5 lengthy homework assignments each week so if you are a full time student it will be a struggle to keep up. And for the exams you have to memorize MANY formulas and no calculator allowed I reached out to her after my first poor exam and she told me to do my work nohelp
Professor Dinkelman is really nice and very understanding. She adjusts things for you and is just very considerate as well. The only thing is that sometimes she kinds of gets lost in the middle of the class and kinds of studies her own lectures right then and there in front of the class. If you miss a quiz, shell gladly open it up again.
There are no days of the week where she holds class. She doesnt like when you email her with questions. Her class only has 3 or 4 tests (I cant remember), and tests are worth 60% of your grade. The tests are closed book with no calculator (yes, no calculator allowed in CALCULUS III). I taught myself out of the textbook.
She is such a great teacher. Very easy going. No exams for this class. She accepts late work.
Easily the best math professor I've ever had. Professor is really nice! There are a lot of easy 1 point grades we do as a class, homework due every week that never took longer than an hour, and 3 quizzes worth 10 points. As long as you do the work you'll get a good grade. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!
Professor Dinkleman is an excellent professor. 95% of the assignments we did together as a class and the other 5% was homework and a couple of quizzes. The homework wasn't overwhelming and the quizzes didn't make up much of your grade. THIS HAS BEEN THE EASIEST OF MY COLLEGE CLASSES SO FAR!!!
She is great majority of the work is done as a class. Just be prepared to use excel a lot, she does go step by step showing how to use it.
elizabeth's lectures are god awfully boring but she basically completes most if not all the assignments in class, handing out As. the mathlabs however you do yourself of course, they are pretty easy with some harder questions. no midterms and finals sooooo. no test > boring, took her class in 2022 spring.
I suck at math but being in her class; I understood everything. Probably one of the best professors at nova, in my opinion. There is no actual midterm or final but three quizzes the whole semester which was pretty easy. Her teaching style is that she does the problems step by step. Which personally is how I learn best.
I took her for MTH 154 in Spring 2023 and she is one of, if not the easiest math teacher in all my years of education. Though she may make her projects simple, it is VERY easy to learn. I took this math course because it required a MTH course, and I do not regret taking her class at all. Take this class! You will not regret it!
My class was online and in class. So you could go to class in person or just watch a recording. It was pretty easy for me to learn that way. Lots of homework according to the lecture that week.
If u struggle w/math, she should b ur choice. She's organized, responsive, & cares as much as u do. Some of the math is taught thru Excel: as a result, u gain an extra skill & knowledge that u don't typically learn math. If you give a wrong answer, she doesn't make u feel badly about it. Show up, do the classwork & homework=pass.
Although calculus 3 is one of the hardest math classes Prof. Dinkelman Has been an astounding teacher. She is very understanding, solves homework problems, and has a clear outline on what you need to do to pass
Prepare to be boggled not only by the amount of homework you receive, but how little it is to your grade. There is nothing you can do to save your grade after tanking just 1 of 3 exams. Essentially reads verbatim to slideshows, and sends you off to the textbook to find out yourself.
Most of the work is done through Pearson, there are 3 quizzes and 2 excel projects, and tons of homework, which can be turned in after due date. there is one activity and one classwork sheet done in every class but those are not accepted after. Just keep up with the work and you will be fine, the work is easy.
Her lectures are boring, but go to them/do the in-class group work & submit it, get your Pearson work done (unlimited attempts), and do the excel projects and you'll be fine. Pearson is worth a lot of your grade, so you can bring your grade up just by getting that done. I didn't apply myself and suffered for it, so that's a me problem lol.
Had her for Fall 2023. Boring lectures, but go to class, do the work, and do the group work. It will pay off. There will be a few days where you get extra credit for just showing up and you'll be glad you did. Everything you work on is on Pearson so make sure to stay on top of it. Do the easy projects. Easiest A ever.
Midterm and final, tons of homework, and group works, excel is her best friend I swear. I am not good in math and I got an A. If you do the work, she will give credit. Took via zoom and was great. She doesnt like if you message her outside of class, but will explain as many times you need if you have a question.
easiest math class iv taken in my life. i would 1000% recommend taking prof. dinkelman. shes amazing.
Very test-heavy, lots of homework. Does not accept late quizzes or discussion assignments. No calculator, no notes. If you have a full-time job, this course is difficult because it is extremely demanding.
*Math 288* There about 3-4 quizzes a week with 5-6 questions, no time limit. It would be between 11-20 questions on a test. The test are long, and you get 2 hours to complete. Lockdown w/camera. She seems a bit rude honestly. I was just happy to pass with a C i guess. The class is hard but that's because the math isn't the easiest.
Great professor. Wants you to learn and all tests are open book. Tons of HW, but doable. I did not complete two HW and still got and A. Tests are done through Pierson, excel base class.
Fall 2023-Overall meh teacher but good person. Ignore ppl complaining about the course difficulty/structure bc that's not her fault lol. Admittedly, her vids are not that helpful but she responded to emails quickly, linked some good resources/practice, & helped answer qs I was stuck on. Just watch Prof Leonard on YT & you'll be set. You can do it!
No calculators or formula sheet allowed, for the online portion she has prerecorded lectures that are just powerpoints. No effort is done on her part to fix these videos when there are interruptions, she never writes anything, some videos she is chewing gum like it is an ASMR video which is gross. I am shocked with a PhD there is not more pride.
*MTH 288* for this discrete math I knew it was going to be difficult but I didn't expect it to be this difficult like idk how my exam scores were terrible like did she put only correct answers with no partial credit. choose a different mth 288 professor if you can if not then try to put a csc 208 professor.
Just not for me. I am someone who struggles with math and her teaching style made it hard for me. A lot of the class is excels and group work, however the math concept is not really explained, its mostly just how to use excel which made exams difficult. Nothing wrong with the professor, but her class is intense & difficult if math isn't your thing.
Her class is fairly easy, but she is boring, and I personally don't care to hear her lecture. I honestly just don't like her, but she did ensure that I was able to take my midterm when I missed it. I am also glad that it is a hybrid class so that I wouldn't have to attend her class in person.
She hates repeating herself, outright refuses emailing her, yet is ambiguous when it comes to communication. She will vocally assume a LOT about her students and tell them to watch a recording if asked questions. Not much "teaching" outside of Excel or Pearson-made slideshows. If you can't show up or participate in groups, DON'T take this course.
I took Professor Dinkleman online for Calculus 3, and I thought it was pretty straightforward. Professor Dinkleman knows what she is talking about, and while she might seem harsh, she is just holding students to a high standard, which I appreciated. As long as you keep up with the online textbook, you'll do fine in her class.
Easy class if you can handle lots of homework. Not test-heavy. But the professor doesn't teach well and lectures are useless. I learned nothing and have a short attention span, so it was hard to stay engaged. If you want an easy A, sure. But if you actually want to learn, take someone else.
I don't recommend her! She has so much homework and grades really harsh for some reason. Also she has many assignments where the question requirements aren't on the assignment itself but on a different document which is very annoying as she doesn't specify that.
Be prepared to learn the content primarily through textbook. Her lecture videos are a very SIMPLIFIED version of the textbook and don't help at all. Only take this prof if you can study and learn completely on your own. (BTW there is no study guides or formula sheets for exams, just similar to web assigns which are extremely time consuming.)
When I initially took this class, this professor had good reviews. However, I am confused why she still has a few good ratings. She does not put all the requirements on one page, she complicates it & puts them on separate documents sections and 1/2 the time the rubric will be different from the outlined requirements on 1 of the many pdfs she links.
Tough grader and hostile demeanor. While I passed the class, I can still say she has no empathy for her students which is ironic as she was once a student too. Said that there was no xtra credit that's okay but then followed with "If you are failing the course then sign up for it again"Less students would fail if she properly outlined requirements
Although this was a free course I am quite disappointed with the result. The videos that were uploaded were nothing like the test and often very boring to sit and watch. The test were open note which was nice. If you take her pay very close attention to rubrics because she's tough with grading.
She is rude when speaking to students. She doesn't really have any empathy and she doesn't really want students to email her. She grades harshly and will give you a zero if one question is wrong. There is a lot of excel and activity worksheet that needs to be downloaded. She has a British accent so it a bit hard to understand her sometimes.
The videos the instructor posted were almost not useful at all. This online course was basically self-taught, and we had to rely on the textbook and links to other teachers. There was no exam outline or review material. The homework was often confusing, and the instructor did not like students emailing her, so support was very limited.
She speaks rudely to students and isn't helpful if you use a Mac, she just tells you to ask IT HelpDesk. If you miss something she already showed she will tell you to watch the recording. There's lots of work, but she doesn't truly teach-just shows how she got her answers.VERY heavy on Excel and Word so can be challenging if you are not familiar.
Be prepared to teach yourself a lot of the content. There is a lot of homework, which isn't too difficult, but it's time consuming. There are excel projects so be sure to have a basic understanding of excel. Not a test heavy class.
