Super nice teacher...very VERY understanding but tough grading. But will answer any questions you have

Great person(ality), tough grader but she is very understanding and easy to talk to.

Dr. Finnegan is an awesome English professor. She chooses books that are not always the typical "english-class books", which makes the class a lot better. Her papers are a little bit tricky and take work, but she is really helpful and will let you re-do them after they're graded too! I never dreaded going to her class, which is rare! Take her!!

Most awesome teacher ever! She is demanding and expects a LOT of work, but trust me, you will learn so much from her. Her assignments are super-creative and fun. Class is very challenging but in a good way, totally different from what you'd expect from an English class. She really opens your eyes to things. She's a little crazy but never boring!

Dr. Finnegan is brilliant and amazing. I agree with the person who said she is a little crazy but it's because she is such a passionate teacher and a true genius. She really cares about her students, that's why she pushes you to work harder than other teachers do. Warning, she is tough grader! But her class is so much fun and her projects are cool

Make sure you take it from her and not the other teacher. Dr. Finnegan knows her stuff! She is a filmmaker herself and she makes it so interesting, even old movies. She makes you see everything differently. Very challenging class, textbook was ridiculous (hard), but class was fun and I love the hands-on projects. Not your typical humanities class!

ENG 348 Hands down the best class I ever took at dyc. Dr. Finnegan knows more about film than anyone you will ever meet. I will never look at movies the same way. She has you make your own movie which is so cool, alot of work but you learn a ton. She is definitely a kooky genius, but very friendly/fun. Take any class she teaches!!!!

So cool to take a film class from someone who makes films themself. I took 314 with McGeachy which was OK, this class was SO much better. Finnegan blew me away! You look forward to class every week because you always know it will be something different and out of the box. Making our own films was incredible, I learned way more than writing a paper.

My favorite class and favorite teacher ever! Dr. Finnegan is so out of the box. She has so much trust in her students, she even lets students pick the readings so you feel like you have a say in what the class is. Discussions and readings were always relatable and her projects were so different. I love how we used Facebook and twitter for class.

Prof Finnegan is the best! I loved this class! I liked that everything she does is so up to date with social media and technology with assignments. Her projects are really tough but creative and even fun. She lets students pick the readings and help run class. I learned a lot from that. She expects a lot of work but is super-smart + crazy cool.

Prof is hilarious and totally knows her stuff, but you better like talking in class or else don't take her. You have to participate to do well. Projects were challenging, much harder than I expected, but she gives you a lot of support. You get to be very independent creative in this class. I liked that but some others couldn't handle it.

Love Dr. Finnegan. She is so open-minded and listens to everyone's ideas and is so positive toward her students. This woman knows EVERYTHING! She is so smart and she makes you want to be smarter. Get ready to talk in class because she does not like it if you just sit there. She is tough but fair and her projects are really fun and different.

This was a great class. I am an education major and I learned a ton that I will use for teaching. Dr. F is so knowledgeable and her projects are awesome! She really opens your eyes. I never understood how manipulated we are by the media and how much it shapes our lives. Now I know how to recognize its effects because of what she taught us.

Dr. Finnegan is amazing and her teaching style is VERY easy to follow. She just expects you to come to class prepared and doesn't spoon-feed you. The projects are a lot of work but in the end she is not a hard grader. She gives and expects quality. I'd rather work hard to make a film than write a boring paper. Challenging but you learn a TON.

She is an incredible teacher. Take ANY class she teaches. I've taken 3 classes with her and they were what college should strive to be. Yes she expects you to be an independent adult but she is always there for you. Plus she gives BRILLIANT feedback and will meet with you anytime you ask. Finnegan really makes you work for it, but her projects are so fun and creative, you don't mind doing the work. She always keeps it interesting and makes you think. Dr. Finnegan is the best professor at D'Youville. I've never met another professor so good about communication or so willing to help students. She is so passionate about her subject and she conveys that passion so you get excited about film too. Be prepared to work hard--if you slack off you'll regret it. I didn't even know who Flannery O'Connor was but now she's my favorite writer and Finnegan is my favorite professor! Amazing class and teacher. Gives the most detailed feedback on essays, she made me a better writer. Fascinating lectures + discussions, she makes the stories leap off the page so you get excited about this writer the way Dr. F does.

My favorite professor at D'Youville, I've taken a bunch of classes with her and she knows her stuff! Very dry sense of humor and can be tough on you but always very caring, she wants you to do well. Will sit in her office with you for hours and help you with your projects. Brilliant lecturer, this woman knows movies like most people breathe air.

You'll come because she's clear, organized, and fair, you'll keep coming back for more because she will crack you up and blow your mind at the same time. Incredibly creative and a freaking genius, people. SO knowlegable about film +passionate about teaching. I don't know any teacher here who cares more for her students or who goes further for them.

Don't waste your time taking English classes from anyone else at D'Youville but Finnegan (or Werner.) The other teachers all dumb everything down but not Dr. F. She is so smart and sassy and keeps it real. If you want a boring, easy A English class, take a different teacher. If you actually want to learn something and change your life, take her!!!

Finny's Gender + Film class was the most engaging educational experience of my life. You can tell how much she loves her research + she has a great passion for teaching. It's challenging but most students were OK with it because it was so awesome. Teaches you about real-world issues no one else here has the guts to talk about. She's the real deal.

She's a great professor. I took 111 and 112 with her and plan to take more classes from her. Very funny and intelligent. Her classes are fun and while she expects a lot and is not easy, you won't be sorry you took her. Very interesting lectures and discussions. Creative assignments. You definitely have to participate or you won't get a good grade.

Dr. Finnegan is amazing. This class opened my mind so much, she makes you think until your head explodes. She pushes you, but you can tell it's because she loves teaching and wants you to push yourself to do better. I loved the readings, and while the assignments were challenging, I really liked that you could be creative and express your ideas.

Incredible class. Dr. Finnegan is absolutely brilliant. Everything that comes out of that woman's mouth just blows your mind, she is so righteous. This should be a required class, people really need to know this stuff. The class is hard, but she is fair and does everything to help. You will bomb if you don't do the reading and take notes in class.

Dr. Finnegan is one of those special teachers who just gets it. She talks to students like they are adults, takes us seriously and like our ideas matter. She makes you think and question everything. She's a brainiac but funny and sweet. Creative assignments, never boring. She sets high standards, but she is totally there to help you meet them.

I have never had such an inspiring professor, who is so passionate about her subject that she draws you in and makes everything so exciting. So supportive of students and absolutely brilliant. She is hardcore, for sure. If you don't do the readings or take notes in class, you will fail the tests. But she will do everything in her power to help you.

Dr. F is kind of badass. I don't know any other teachers who tell it like it really is, no sugar-coating, and then challenge you to go out and change things. Readings are interesting but tough and you can't get away with not reading. She teaches you to analyze movies and see everything differently. FWIW, she has an insanely cool fashion sense!

Prof F is the kind of teacher who makes you work so hard that when you actually get that A in the end, you know you truly earned it because not everyone gets it. She's tough but you can see it's because she loves students and wants them to do work they are proud of. I learned so much that I will take with me my whole life. A life-changing class.

I can't think of another professor who cares more about her students or who is so passionate and knowledgeable about the material. Yes, she demands your best but goes way above and beyond the norm to help you get there. Incredibly supportive. Plus she is super-cool and hilarious. I would take every class she teaches. Take her! You won't regret it!

Finny is hands down the best teacher at this school. She truly listens to students. Her classes are always fun even when its hard. Never makes you feel stupid, really makes you want to learn. Brilliant but doesn't take herself too seriously. Love how different/creative her projects are. Not your typical English class, not your typical English prof.

Eye-opening class and professor. Really wants to hear from students even when you disagree with her, always encouraged us to be ourselves. But also very challenging and makes you question everything. Lot of work but class is so fun, she is one of a kind. Slow to hand back work but her feedback is very detailed and helpful, not just generic.

Dr. Finnegan was the best professor at D'Youville. By far my favorite teacher. She is always there and for her students. She will work around your schedule just to talk to you because you need one-on-one. She is always eager to hear different opinion in class. It's alot of work, but if you have problems talk with her. Overall a great teacher!

She is very nice and probably the best English professor at DYC, besides the homework she gives out every week which can be tiresome-and she does grade harshly. Despite this, the course material is actually really interesting and relevant in today's society. She does seem to have a liberal bias, but is eager to hear other people's opinions too.

Best professor at DYC! She is down to earth and the things you study in her classes are actually interesting and important for real life. I honestly learned way more than I expected to. She definitely pushes you and grades hard, but she is supportive and makes you feel like your smarter than you thought. She really believes in students and cares.

Dr. Finnegan is definitely the best professor at this school. She involves everyone in her warmth and energy instead of just lecturing at you. She is so open to all ideas. She will challenge you to support your opinions whether she agrees with you or not, I always felt comfortable speaking my mind. She helped my writing SO MUCH. One of a kind.

She is an amazing professor. Mandatory journal homework every class it is due. 3 projects due. One is a mixtape project. The other one is a Natural history project. Also, a reflection paper on the journals. Overall, she makes you think outside the box. However, very inspirational and an amazing professor.

One of D'Youville's best professors! Amazing lecturer, 3 essays which aren't too bad, and two journals per week. She does make you work for your grade with homework and participation, but is such an amazing person and eager to hear what students have to say and does give A's. Very eye-opening class, high quality professor.

Definitely the best professor I've had. Amazingly brilliant/creative and class topics really make you think outside the box. Especially love how open she is to everyone's ideas and opinions. I felt like I could say whatever I thought even if I disagreed with her. She makes you question everything and doesn't pretend to have all the answers.

Amazing professor. This wasnt like any other class or teacher. There was never one right or wrong answer, it was obvious in every way that the professor truly cared about our ideas. She opened my mind to things I never thought about before. I realize now what a huge difference there is when the professor has so much respect for the students.

Every student at D'Youville should take this class. Finnegan is an incredible professor and the class is so relevant. She teaches you to really see how the media we watch influences us in ways you never realized. I learned so much and it was actually fun! We analyzed everything from music videos to SNL skits to the news. Super open-minded prof.

This was the best class/best professor I have ever taken. Everyone needs to learn the stuff she teaches you and she is the only one who teaches it. I learned more about things that will really change my life than in my whole 4 years here. She's also hilarious, totally woke and open to what students think and care about. Really caring person too.

This class totally changed how I look at movies. Now I feel like I notice so much, especially about how minorities and women are portrayed in movies. Amazing professor. Making a film was challenging but I learned a ton. Definitely recommend!

Totally agree, she is the best professor at D'Youville! This class changed my life, it's phenomenal how much you learn from Finnegan in every single class. She's brilliant and you can see how much she cares about the material she's teaching and cares about students too. Really listens to what students think. Very challenging but sooooo worth it.

I loved this class and teacher. Her enthusiasm and knowledge gets you so interested in film. Always supportive and open to students ideas. The workload is not bad. She just wants you to think for yourself, which I guess some people dislike. Assignments are creative. If you want to have fun learning and you like movies, you'll love her film classes!

I wish there were more classes (and more professors) like this one. This class is never boring, the topics really make you think and you can relate it to medicine and your life. Finnegan is so passionate and makes everything super interesting. She's very understanding, will work with you to help you with any problem and truly cares about students.

Love Finnigan! I was nervous about taking a creative writing class but it was my favorite class, I actually looked forward to going to class! Not a ton of work--portfolio of poems with revisions, in-class peer critique. 1 presentation. She pushes you on revisions but in a nice way. Super-friendly and really inspires you to write and read poetry.

Best professor at D'Youville! I guess some people hate on her for expecting them to work. Whatever. If you want to do nothing/learn nothing, don't take her. If you want an amazing, inspiring, blow-your-mind class with a brilliant, kind, open-minded teacher, take her. She makes you think hard but the work is not hard and it's not hard to get an A.

This was the most fun class! Finnegan is passionate and gets you excited about film, but also keeps it fun. Yes, she expects you to read/be able to discuss, but if you do the best you can and make an effort, you'll get an A, no problem. Dr. F is amazing! Yes, lots of reading but it's interesting and she brings it all to life. Totally hilarious and fun. I actually want to come to class! Her topics really make you think. And she will bend over backwards to make sure you do well. Never takes off points for stupid things, as long as you hand everything in, you will get an A, for real.

I loved Dr. Finnegan! Yes, a lot of reading, but topics are thought-provoking and you take away so much from her. Really liked this class and professor. Required class but she chose relatable topics. Readings are usually interesting and she cares about students ideas. She will go above and beyond to help you. I got behind and she was very understanding and met me multiple times to help me. As long as you do the reading for class and do your best your golden.

IGNORE to the bad reviews! Prof. Finnegan is hands down the best teacher at this school and this class was phenomenal. She just wants you to learn. People went crazy b/c they couldn't blow if off and still get an A. I've taken a few of her classes, they were all great! It's no problem to get an A if you just do the reading and make an effort.

The real deal: Finnegan is an amazing, brilliant, kind professor. She was so supportive to me when I was struggling and went above and beyond to make sure I was OK.. She changed her syllabus by cutting it down to make it easier for us. She puts so much passion into her classes and makes film exciting and relevant and is open to students ideas.

Best class and professor I've taken so far. You do have to do the reading and make an effort, but it's all enjoyable and it's not hard to do well as long as you're prepared for class and do your best. I learned a ton, it was super interesting and she made class fun. I think some people just don't like her unique style. She's very outside the box!

Amazing class! Dr. Finnegan is fantastic. She really shows you how film is an art form and how much movies and media influence what we think. But she also makes class fun and is approachable and supportive of students. Shes always open to students ideas and wants you to speak up. Don't be afraid to ask questions or disagree/debate! You can't blow off the reading or work, but it's easy to keep up and class is always interesting, Make sure you participate and ask questions. This class blew me away. I never knew how much movies and TV affect how society sees minorities and women. The professor is so warm and an amazing, fun teacher. Energetic and gets the class interested because she is so enthusiastic and supportive. She always checks in on how class is going for us and is willing to adjust things to help students.

Professor finnigan is one of D'Youville's best. She is truly caring and her passion for the subject is always obvious. She got students excited about film because shes so enthusiastic and inclusive. Really understanding about deadlines and sensitive to student stress. Some of the films were challenging, but she gets you into it and makes class fun.

Probably the most eye-opening class I have taken. So relevant! Prof. Finnegan blew me away! She is amazing at getting you excited about the issues and films. Shes so warm and enthusiastic and very understanding about student issues.I had some problems getting work done and she spent so much time helping me, no other teacher is like her. Love her!

Loved this class! Professor Eli is amazing and obviously cares so much about their students. I learned a ton and the movies were mostly really interesting. Fun classes and assignments. It also meant a lot to me personally to have a openly LGBTQ professor who creates such a safe supportive environment for all students.

Fantastic professor! I wd take any class they teach! But Art of Film was really special. I never realized how much there is to watching movies and tv until I took this class. A real "blow your mind" class and dr. Finnegan is so energetic, encouraging + totally brilliant. You have to do the reading but it's not a lot. Assignments are actually fun!
