I think that Liz is a great teacher. She has been very helpful to me this semester and I think that she reaches out to the students more than any teacher I have ever had. She is very fun!
Vikse is a geat teacher. She is so into her teacher that she loves it. I can tell by the way she has fun in the class room and her lectures are awesome. Even though I am not required to take any more Math classes I will be taking more of her classes.
She never fails 2 make us laugh. I think her best interest is the students, and it shows. I'm glad I chose her
Class is fun, but sometimes she starts to talk to fast.
Vikse rocks. Her over-the-top enthusiasm is contagious, and she turns a tedious subject into a party. Commitment to her students learning=Obvious. Intent=Genuine. If u have a ?, she has an answer, and she never makes you feel dumb for asking it. A+
VIKSE IS A WONDERFUL TEACHER. SHE GIVES STUDENTS EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO TO WELL IN A HARD SUBJECT.
I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone who struggles with Math & doesn't like too much lecture. She always finds a way to allow you to understand the material. Having a crappy day? You won't after you have class with her. :)
I have always hated math, but that changed this semester. I highly recommend her.
She is a very spunky teacher, to a fault. She should teach kindergarten rather than college. She talks too much about her dogs, and not enough about math. She doesn't explain things well at all. She is my very worst math teacher ever!
For algebra she may be a great instructor, but calc with her is a nightmare. Hopefully, she becomes more fluent with the material after she teaches for a few more years. Tests are absurd for her knowledge of the material, but she is a very nice lady.
Always liked Math. Made calculus fun for 8 in the morning. The course itself was difficult but she made learning it easier and more fun. Would take Calc with her again if I could.
Liz is a good teacher. At first, she took some getting used to, and I thought about dropping her class, but I'm glad I didn't. I'm doing great in her class and she's always willing to help, she's always in her office and has no problem helping you. She does act odd in class sometimes..
Awesome teacher, I would recommend her for anyone who HATES math. She makes it fun and interesting
A very nice, kind teacher, who cares about you if you are willing to show up to class once in awhile.
Great teacher that I would recomend to any one needing to take a math class. She makes people laugh and have fun in the class. In response to what other students said, her jokes help you to remember strategies and how the math problems are done. :O)~ I would take a class of hers again.
this is the hardest, most time consuming class I have ever taken. her tests were difficult and she assigned an enormous amount of homework problems. but the problems were extra credit and they saved me from getting a bad grade. she's very helpful though!
Best teacher I have ever had. You have to work your a** off, and lord knows that I fell asleep time to time in class (it's math), but she was full of energy and truly cared for students. Ended up with a "B"
She talks about her dogs all the time and she is very two faced, tells you one thing and then changes her mind without telling you. Her nervous energy makes you nervous. If you don't understand she gets mad. She also does not grade everyones papers the same.
All I can say is if I hear the words,"Plug it in, plug it in" or "Clear as mud??" anymore, I think that I'll hang myself. Liz has gunga-energy and crams on the homework. If you like to do homework, take her class. She wasn't a bad teacher, just too hyper for my thought process.
Bright and cheery, an absolute sweetheart! I adore her!
The best teacher that I have ever encountered at RCTC. I would take all my classes with her if only I needed more Math for my major. Not an easy class, its math. But she is willing to help you out if you need it and allows students to redo test. How many of the other professors let you do that?? Not many, if any....
You'll have to do a lot of work to keep up in her classes - a definite case of 'tough but fair'. Her energy and sense of enthusiasm is infectious, though, and she has a skill for keeping your interest during a lecture, silly though it may be. Definitely cares about students. Great professor, I recommend her to anyone taking a math course at RCTC.
Definately rated very high. Class moves along quickly at times, but she won't leave you to sink/swim. Knows how to teach (most don't) AND knows her material. Took 2 classes with her, would do it again. Pretty fair, down to earth.
She might know her algebra, but Vikse knows jack squatt about calc two. She rambles like a md woman, and bounces off the walls. Her voice pierces your ears, and she pretend to play characters during class. Annoying phrases such as "hey gang" "head nods" can be heard up to 15 times a session. This woman should not be allowed to teach calculus.
You made math REALLY fun especially for 9 in the morning. For it being only your third time, I think you did an excellent job. It's obvious that you really love math, and it was nice to see a teacher doing homework and making mistakes too! Keep it up!
Vikse is by far the best math teacher I've ever had. She goes out of her way to explain things people don't understand if they ask. She keeps class interesting. The class is by no means easy though. If you get all the homework done, then you'll do fine on the tests, but if you don't do it then you're screwed. Study groups are a must.
She is amazing; her excitement and enjoyment of math is contagious. Liz tries to make everything fun and challenging- but is very open to questions. She averages 2 office hours a day, but it that doesn't work, she's open for more. If something doesn't make sense, she'll have dug around in alternative math books by the next day. Liz= one of the best
Very helpful and nice. She keeps you from falling asleep.
She is one of the best instructors in Rctc. I learned alot from her class. She is really helpfull, and also a nice person. I enjoy taking her class.
Very entertaining but gets away from the subject at hand, Alot of homework, but gives you bonus's to do it. Tests are 2 pages, but grades on a curve and gives you points for DOING the problem! A little cooky though
I hate math, and college algebra looked like a disaster, but Liz took the time to explain things. She was very energetic and helpful! She gives you bonuses for homework assignments. Also, she gives you credit for showing your work on tests. At the end of the semester, she let us retake 2 tests! Never had a better math prof!
If you don'e like math or don't understnd it take Liz. She gives home work you don't have to do it but if you do you get points towards your test and helps you a ton. She uses D2L alot. She is crazy and knows how to teach math you won't fall asleep in this class!
Very intimidating and unfair. This professor needs to stay "professional," not goof off like a lawnmower.
I love Liz! I do not understand how people can give her a bad rating. She keeps stuff interesting and answers questions. Her teaching method is not a brain dump and doing your homework is not required, but strongly suggested. She is one of the few teachers I am going to miss when it comes to transferring next year.
tests are long and i didnt finish my first couple of tests in her class
An excellent teacher, helpful, very enthusiastic, and always easy to deal with. She's certainly jovial, but that is a good thing, it keeps you from falling asleep. If you need to take math, she is by far the best choice. I've taken her for two semesters, and hope to take her for two more.
Highly recommended. Liz has a great sense of humor that will make even those who really dislike math enjoy coming to her class. She is also always there to give extra help and will do everything she can to help her students succeed. She drops the two lowest scores of the online quizzes and allows students to re-take up to 2 tests.
Vikse has some fun teaching style and will answer questions in class. Assigns a ton of homework and the tests are way to fast. The problem's are not that hard but the time limit is way to short. we are the only college algebra class I know of that will not be getting through. Assigns homework late w/out warning. if I could do, I wouldnt take her.
Mixed feelings about Liz. Nice lady, but needs to work on the teaching methods a bit. Tests are impossible to finish, resulting in huge point deductions even for good students. Our class was 2 chapters behind the other algebra classes because she is didn't lecture as much as she could've. If you really want to learn, take someone else.
Liz is great. Her class set up is excellent and puts the responsibility onto the student, but she also goes through and grades all test and gives you % points just for doing your homework. Very focused on you teaching yourself or having your peers help you but is alway willing to help by solving questions in class and goes over the basic lecture.
She is a teacher who challenges her students, and I've never worked so hard for 3 credits before! However, she is very knowledgeable and always willing to help you inside/outside of class time. If you don't show up to class and don't do your homework, you will quickly fall behind. If you show up, study hard and do your homework you'll do fine.
Liz is an EXCELLENT teacher. She is always so full of energy and in a great mood, which makes it easier and more fun to be in class. Go to class and do the homework and you will easily get an A. BEST TEACHER AT RCTC!
She was nice and fun. Tests are hard
If I could take every class with Liz I would!!! She is an excellent professor. She has got to be the best at RCTC. She will make sure that you are prepared for your next math class! Keep up the great work Liz!!! She gives students confidence that they will succeed not many teachers do it in the way Liz does!!! Take her stay ahead or caught up!!!!
AWESOME teacher! I recommend her to everyone! She is very helpful with any questions and does an excellent job of explaining problems if you don't get it! I had her for an online class and we had to 'go to school' for 3 tests, which were a little long, but she was willing to get you on the right track if you were stuck on a problem. Take her classes
very excellent and capable teacher also makes herself available at all times, great communicator as well. one of the best math teachers ever!!!
I had Liz for statistics and was the hardest class I have ever taken!! But Liz is a FUN teacher who makes the class very enjoyable--and is very knowledgeable-she is so caring and helped me when ever I needed it. I would recommend her to anyone and everyone--if I needed another math class (which I am so glad I dont) I would take Liz again!!
Fun teacher. Very helpful. Tests are very hard and most of your grade. She does want you to succeed.
Vikse is very sporadic with her instructions and teaching. She tries to be funny to make up for her inability to teach. Be prepared to teach yourself. This class is extremely time consuming and made much more difficult than it needs to be due to her teaching. I would not recommend taking this instructor.
Quite possibly the most confusing teacher I have ever had in my life!
Very inconsistent and confusing. Seemed like she wanted best for students but many times did not follow through with statements made in class. First few chapters taught fairly well. However, after this seemed like she did not understand a lot of the info, left it for students to figure out themselves and avoided questions. Do not recommend.
I've noticed that the only high ratings for Liz come from Math 0098, a class I think she is perfect for. With that being said, Liz is awful for anything above 98/99. Very scatterbrained, so if you are struggling with Math, I would suggest taking it with another teacher. Nice lady, but tragic Math professor.
Has a lot of good qualities but her teaching techniques are aweful. She will spend 3 hrs teaching 10 different ways on how to do ONE thing. Inconsistant, confusing and plays favorites. Never on time with posting grades, be prepared to blindly know where you sit for grades. Make sure you are up on what the next days lesson about before class.fyi.
no way
Muddled teaching style. Messes with test dates. Messes with test content shortly before test date. Halfway through class changed textbook used for instruction. NOT recommended.
Things you should know about this class is very, very hard and consume alot of time, especially the hard part of this class is PROBABILITY the class average is like 40% on that test. Liz is very funny and helpful teacher if you're a hard working student.
Liz is a very nice person and wants everyone in the class to succeed. that being said, she is extremely unclear, does not follow the syllabus at all, and tests you on things not covered in class. she is very understanding, but for a class that should have been somewhat hard, she made impossible.
Wonderful teacher! Enjoyed her and the class!
She spends half the class taking attendance then we spend the rest solving two math problems. Next she never shows examples she just assigns the homework and expects everyone to know how to do it. Probably one of the worst teachers I've ever had
she was not helpful at all. worst teacher i ever had
Horrible teacher!! Had trouble in the beginning getting an access code for online, almost missed deadline to use financial aid to pay for it. She's not helpful at all. Takes months to grade proctored tests. Tests you on things you didn't even have in the homework. I would NOT recommend anybody take a class taught by her. Bad experience!
In a work at your own pace math. She is very helpful and will give you full credit you deserve. Very goofy and fun lady! She pretty much rocks!
Terrible teacher, never follows up, takes forever to get a response, tests include information not covered, needs to actually put time into the course and not just expect students to teach themselves.
Good class, she is very helpful. In the beginning of the semester she was on top of responding to email but towards the end she isn't. Very friendly!
We spent too much time on the easy stuff and not enough time on the hard stuff. She is willing to help you if you ask. Course homework and online tests are easy. Her in class tests are harder than the mymathab work and rarely have nice answers.
Good lady super funny and help full. Goes through a lot of subjects at once don't skip to much or you will fall behind.
She assigned so much homework that came out to be around 100 to 150 problems due everyweek. Mathlab didn't specify how to round an answer but it would count your answer wrong if you rounded wrong. At the end of the semester she determined that she didn't want to grade the mathlab or scratch paper and assigned us the grade we got on the midterm
This teacher did not explane the material very well. I took math 98 and recived an A ,and math 99 and recived a B so going into this class I felt there was know way I could failed, but I did :'(. I also went to the learning center everyday and I also got a one on one tutor as well; however, still did not help. DO NOT TAKE!
Very nice lady and cares about students, but so inconsistent. She was always waay behind with grading, and whenever she said she would post grades or announcements, it was always multiple days late. Homework is always due in huge chunks only on test day, and it seemed like there was almost no help for the students who were struggling.
Extremely nice and tries to be funny, but has add or adhd and just isn't a great teacher. She isn't consistent, there is virtually no help to those struggling, tests are never like the homework and she makes them tricky. She also curves tests so that it looks like her students are doing better than they really are. Doesn't post homework grades.
She is a funny teacher and she told the class she had adhd. I didn't pass the class even though I showed up everyday, did the homework and got a tutor. It was a hard class for me because, I couldn't remember everything. I didn't like how she said we should already know this from math 0098. I haven't took that class since Fall 2015.
Terrible teacher. I spent countless HOURS every day in the learning center trying to figure out what I was supposed to do bc her tests were never on the homework or book materials. I reviewed and had one of the math teachers in the LC teach all the chapters to me and I was always confident before the tests, only to get C's and D's.
Pros: Wants her students to succeed and makes herself available with office hours, phone or Skype availability. She is eccentric, silly, and energetic. Cons: Moves very quickly through material, poor communication, extremely late grading (didn't know our current grade by withdrawal date), heavy hw load (60-80 problems a day), multiple absences.
gets very off topic. in a one hour class you will spend maybe 15 minutes learning the actual material. lots of homework, 80+ problems a night
Liz is a great teacher in the classroom HOWEVER you get your test grades back very late. On average you get your test back 3 -4 weeks after you take the test. The tests are NOT a reflection of the homework and are hard and long. Plan to spend a lot of time in the learning center.
Takes forever to grade. Still dont know grade for first week things days after semester ended.
She is the most disorganized person in this world. Yes all of these comments are correct.I decided to ignore them when I started this class and give her a chance but she has done nothing but disappoint me. You get tons of homework that she didn't grade until the semester was over. study end up failing. classaverage54%last test don't sign up pleases
A very great teacher with a great personality. She genuinely cares about her students. I'd suggest taking her class!
Caring but beyond unorganized! Test dates are constantly being moved, doesn't spend any time on lectures but rather on homework. There is 2 weeks left of the semester and she still doesn't have anything graded. She forgets about things and has even said "I just realized I never finished going through the chapter 3 tests." Not worth your time or $$$
Great professor! Fleck did a great job handling the covid "crisis". She is a great teacher and her lectures will not bore you. There is a lot of homework, however, that is every class. Fleck is a great professor, do not listen to the other ratings which are people who most likely failed because they did no work.
Really slow to grade and extremely unorganized. Our first chapter test of the semester only one person completed it before end of class. Excessive homework and lectures aren't really helpful. Take Sarah Endal online instead.
She has never taught a day in her life, there is really no point in showing up to the class because she does not teach at all. She expects you to learn everything yourself and then gives extremely hard tests that have nothing to do with the material in the homework.
Liz Fleck is a disaster. Dont wast your time or money taking college algebra with her because she simply wastes your class period with quirky jokes and expects you to complete 80+ problems a night, watch multiple hour long videos failing to explain stuff and giving exams having nothing to do with any of the work you do for the chapter.
I have no idea what todo at this point. I get really good practice on mymathlab. Zoom her on weekends to clarify stuff. I put SO MUCH work and effort into the class yet the tests look absolutely nothing like homework. Every body got an F. Great as a person HORRIBLE as a teacher. I have no idea what todo at this.
Horrible communicator. Tried communicating that there are no due dates on the syllabus so I assumed as long as they're in before tests then it's fine ( you can also retake them) but kicked me out instead. ( Don't assume) and said look at syllabus ( the reason we're here.) homework every single day. Terrible lessons. (Math0094 not noted above)
I don't even know where to begin! Do not take this professor! I never ever had trouble with math! With this class no matter how confident you are in your homework and review. The test will challenge you!Her tests are not meant to test you but to Challenge you. Never seen anything like it. If ALL students FAILED a test who has the problem?! Warning
I have always been an A student until this class. Fleck is a very kind person, but a terrible teacher. In class lectures are pointless- she wastes time talking and only gets through half a section at most. If you take this class, you will be teaching yourself. She takes forever to grade tests and to respond to emails. Tests are nothing like the hw.
Fleck's heart is in a good place and wants everyone to succeed. However, she is a terrible professor. She assigns boatloads of homework each week (150+ problems). She is very disorganized. She does not follow the schedule in her syllabus. She often has uncovered material in the chapter tests. Overall, for the sake of your wallet and gradesdont tak
Nice person, terrible professor! She graded an exam, feedback was "very bad math" instead of explaining. She gives certain people points but not others. She'll call u out if you don't have right calculator. Cancels class a lot and expects you to learn on your own. Not a lot of points in the class, end of semester & there is only 60 pts for semester
Literally such a horrible teacher, please do not take her class! When i had covid she took me out of the course because i was absent, even though she responded to my email telling her i had covid. You do about 3+ hours of HW a night and still have no idea what is happening on the test. When i asked for help i was told to study more
Liz is hilarious albeit very off-topic sometimes. She canceled class a lot when we really needed help. This is a hard class if you are not very good at math. The only reason I passed was that she curved the tests and final grades. Great teacher but be ready to work. Very fair. If you work hard you will be fine.
She means well, but she just isn't the best professor. Lectures were basically nonexistent, but what was given were too easy in comparison to the tests. The online homework was also incredibly easy compared to the tests, making the course incredibly hard to pass as exam grades weigh HEAVY. I'm unsure if attendance was mandatory.
This class was terrible! I have never gotten under a B in any classes and I failed this class! Liz literally never gives lectures, she gives at least 3+ hours of homework every night and her lectures are doing one example that the students come up with. She consistently was late for class or canceled at least once a week. DON'T RECOMMEND!
I've never had an issue with math, but this class made my health plummet. Fleck didn't show up for lecture many times and consistently forgot to cover topics within units. She forgot/called in sick whenever I had scheduled work make-up sessions. Tests are insanely difficult compared to the homework (which takes 3+ hours/topic). Wouldn't recommend.
Fleck is generally kind, but doesn't teach well (gets distracted, misses class, assigns excessive amounts of hw, etc...). She acts nice, but now I'm thinking it's a cover up. After I left lecture, I saw her talking to a classmate, and she was being cold and dismissive. Not sure what the context was, but is she always like this outside of class?
I personally have MANY issues with Fleck. She assigns lots of homework, covers little in lectures, and misses class often, and trails off. My main issue is her tests: There isn't enough time to take them! Each problem can take around 7-10 minutes to solve, and there's 12 questions every test. But 60 minutes is all we get! I didn't get halfway done!
One on one, she'll answer your questions and is pretty kind. In class and online? Prison warden. She will publicly flog you in front of your peers for low homework grades. Speaking of, the assignments are arduous. She loves to change up the homework and syllabus constantly. I lost hair and sleep over this class. I also lost my 4.0. Save yourselves.
Ms Elizabeth Fleck is a Professor that should be finally removed from the RCTC Roster. Her lectures cover the bare minimum of the chapter/lesson that is covered for the session that we're in. This class with her is a class that is guaranteed to be a full time job. If you are a full time job and full time student (80hrs/wk), DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Great person, horrible professor. For the online class, you basically teach yourself because her lectures are about 15% informational and 85% of her rambling off topic. Half the time, she just posts an announcement that she isn't available for weeks. Flat out she just can't teach. She's a great person, but she's hurting students more by "teaching".
Disappeared randomly for weeks on end. Checks her email once a month if your lucky. Basically a teach yourself course and random and unpredictable schedule. Got a test graded back 2 months later because I bugged her constantly.
