Knows her material well.
Fun class, you learn lot. study hard and you will pass the class.
she is hard, but if you know math you will be ok.she give an acummulative exam for the final.
she is a bad teacher, her exams are not only hard, but also very confuse. So I wish you good Luck with her.Since there is no other choice!Take the class seriously. Practice a lot of math and don't waste time memorizing the material..
she explains everything really well but her tests are extremely hard
Forget it! The toughest teacher ever. She would make you cry if you are not her favorite one.

She is a genius and that is why the average student may be intimidated by her.She never ceases to recognize a student that is serious about learning the material. She can become the best prof you'll ever have 'cause she never gives up on a serious student.
she is a bad teacher!
Dont take this teacher she is from hell she will make your live miserable, it doesnt matter how much you studied you will never pass her exams.
She teaches the class as if you are to know everything already she is also the department chair so the entire chem department terriable. It is chem 101 at a JC but it touhgt in a still to weed you out be an active student and dont the class whith a terrible teacher but take it a differnt college
Be prepared before you take this class(know your basic chem!). At first she can be intimidating because of her wealth of knoweldge, however that only works to benefit the student and is one of her strong points, if you are serious about the class. One of the best teachers around and I go to UC syste
Actually, Friedman is a very good Chem teacher. Shes a very interesting character.Anyone could Ace the class just as long as you answer the questions from the book, which will prepare you for the tests, and turn in all the lab reports. I would highly recommend her.
The best teacher I've ever had. She explain everything and helps a lot.
Dr Friedman is a genius and a very good professor. She is strict but explains everything clearly. Take her classes if you really want to learn your chemistry.
Very good teacher
Explains everything a million times if she has to, until you get it.
Friedman is a very good chem teacher
Great professor You really learn from this class
very hard teacher

best chem prof for chem 51
good teacher

She is awesome, very good teacher.
Hmmmmmmm....Yes she is liking watching a sunday morning cartoon. Her style of teaching is great, but!when it comes to her tests Man look out! She is tough and meticulous. Be correct and study everything.
Friedman is really a good teacher.U can learn a lot from her, though her tests are different.be meticuluos. What you think is the right is not right.Just be careful and review the problems. But I'm not saying this as a warning, coz at the end of the semeter you will learn something useful for your career, esp f ur taking this for a Science Major.=)
Good method of teaching, oh yes. But then come her tests, which will brutaly annihilate you, no joke. First-timers beware!
Don't be FOOLED by her ratings this teacher is the WICKED WHITE HAIRED WITCH OF VALLEY GLEN! Will not repeat herself and forgets she is there to teach and ANSWER questions. Crazy old hag.
Nice lady, but the test are not fair nor are they based on the book material or homework. I got all A’s except from her class. Her tests are designed for people with prior knowledge from other countries that already took this class. I did all the homework and the workbook examples, but her tests had completely different questions. Not fair at all!
Overall she has a good heart. But her tests are very hard and tricky. Don't expect an A unless you really have prior knowledge.Tests are tricky. The class in general was very boring. The labs are even more boring, nothing exciting. Just boring titrations and weighing misc materials. Very boring, but a requirement. Don't expect a good grade again.
She's a very nice person; it's just that her tests are toooooo hard. She doesn't give a lot of problems on the tests but she combines everything together. Since she's a chemist she thinks everyone around her is a chemis too.. But she's a sweetheart.
Don't be fooled by the "nice lady" comments, she probably writes them herself. She is evil in its purest form. Is not helpful, too fast and gives the most insane tests. Marks off 1/4 of points?! Who does this????
Freidman is the sweetest teacher in valley (besides maybe zucker). The people who wrote bad things about her should be ashamed of themselves. You could stay in her office hours the ENTIRE time and she's pretty much your tutor. Chem is hard! If you really want to learn it, take her. If your retarded and want an easy A, don't take her.
Prof Friedman is a great lecturer but she's the worst TEACHER in LAVC. Class went from 30 to 10! Exam 1 Avg=60%. Exam 2 Avg=47%. If it wasn't for the auditing student who had already taken chem and org chem, the avg would be lower cuz she set the curve. No one got A. She says she wants students to do well in class then docks off points for sig figs.
worth teacher ever. She tries to make the lecture funny but the way she grades is terrible. Her exams are imposible, the first thing she said the first day of class is that it was very hard to get an A in her class, very true. in our class no one got A if you can avoid taking her please do so !
SHE IS ONE OF THE WORST TEACHERS EVER.. HONESTLY. ALL THE COMMENTS ABOUT HER ARE TRUE.YOU HAVE TO DO HER LABS BUT YOU GET POINTS FOR EVERY THING.IF THE DECIMAL IS NOT IN THE RIGHT PLACE,IF THERE IS TOOO MUCH SIG FIGS OR NOT ENOUGH,N THE EXAMS 4GET ABOUT IT!! THEYRE HARD EVEN IF YOU STUDY.
PROFESSOR FRIEDMAN IS BY FAR THE WORST PROFESSOR AT LAVC. HER TESTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE! YOU LITERALLY HAVE TO BE A CHEMIST TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT. VERY NEGATIVE IN TERMS OF PASSING THE CLASS. SHE WILL WRITE ON THE BOARD AND TELL YOU IF YOU ARE NOT PASSING YOUR CHANCES OF PASSING THE CLASS ARE SLIM! STAY AWAY!!!
don't take her class if u don't want to waist your life.please don't.
I took her class during winter session,08.I had an A She was great. Her classes are not for the people who do not read the book or do not pay attention. she knows her materials and teaches well.
Friedman is an entertaining, witty and fun teacher. The subject is difficult but she is not a bad teacher. People who fail or drop out are just plain lazy or idiots. If you studied, and failed, you didnt study enough. Work hard in chem, get the A. Complain and slack off, get the F you deserve and don't blame it on the teacher.
She loves to teach. She's strict about sigfigs ,and her tests require people to actually use their brains. If you read the book and use the practice book ahead of time- prep yourself with questions for her- she'll go through everything with you and will work with you until you've got it down. Prereq for class, wanting to actually learn something.
You should know that before taking Professor's class I had nightmares about Chemistry. While, Professor is very strict, she is very specific and very dedicated to each student understanding the material. You must be as dedicated to the subject as she. And, you must be willing to word hard and truly understand the material. By the way, I got an A.
horrible, DO NOT take her chem 102
Please please please, do not take this woman's class. Trust me, I study a lot and the material is hard but do-able. The teacher is so tough on grading though. She has 3 tests(including the final). Each test has 6-8 problems and if you miss one, its an automatic C. Take it with Milligan, or at Pierce.. any other teacher will do.
I worked hard everyday for her class. I'm an A student & struggled just to pass. She's a despicable, vulgar, mean-spirited & reprehensible lady. She's very impressed with herself but I'm not. She claims an A student does exceptional work, but by this logic she herself would not earn an A as she makes numerous mistakes, repeatedly. Avoid her class!
The best professor I've ever had. Exams are not that hard if you study. I learned a lot from this professor.
She is funny, I enjoyed her humor. She makes time to help you after hours. She makes you learn the material and the final was everything. So I you want to truelly understand the material this is the class for you. I truelly enjoyed her and she loves to teach. I like teachers like that. ohh ya Sig Fig's
I recommend taking someone else unless you absolutely have to take her. If you work your hardest and aren't a prodigy, you will not get an A. She has an unrealistic standard for A grades and makes the test material as hard as possible. Complete nightmare! No fair chance to get an A. She screws up all the time, too. So she cant get an A in her class
I read these bad things about Dr. Friedman. She was there 4 days a week to work with me. Unlike the other Health Science teacher who couldn't give a rip..She told us what was going to be on our tests. She had the patience of an angel. She is a good no BS person. I will remember her as a wonderful professor who took pride in her job and her students
Ok guys. This is my 2nd time taking chem 51.The only slot open was with Friedman and I was afraid to enroll due to all the neg comments. But she is GREAT! She couldn't be more clear.Helpful. Listen CHEM IS HARD,becuz concepts are new. You need at LEAST 2 hours of homework a day(on your own).No homework, no quizzes
this teacher lectued form 730 to 1105 with a 20 min brake. she loves to teach no one can aruge taht. But she is HARd! but there was one person who got an A in her exam so i mean its doable. so let me tell u the stats in my class. it started with abt 20 ppl. and by the final there were 7 left. and after the final i know 3 ppl including me didn't pass
DO NOTTTTTTTTTTT TAKE HER. She gives you a slip with a pre grade that says you are getting B+,A- at the end when you check your final grade you see an F. She is unrealistic. her tests do not relate to the material. i had to take her class because there wasn't another one open and i did not pass it. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHANCES.
her tests do not relate to the material, A LOTTTTTT OF PEOPLE DID NOT PASS IN MY CLASS.
Okay guys. Prof. Friedman is the most entertaining chemist there is. She is brilliant, and the things gone over in class are made clear. However the one flaw in the class is the difficulty of her tests. You need to understand chemistry on a level that she does. MEMORIZE the cummulative problems. I got 2 F's on the 1st 2 midterms, and a b on final.
Great Teacher, hard subject. She does actually care about her students. Class began with about 40 students by the end there was only 15 left, not sure how many passed. It seems impossible to get an A so be prepared to get a B or lower.
DO NOT take this teacher. She seemed like she was going to be a pain from the beginning of the class. We started with about 40 people and 14 were left. She says that she gives you the tools to pass her class, but the tests seem like they are out of the blue. If she doesn't "like" your answer, she will mark you down, even though it is correct.
She's an absolute delight. I had the worst fear of Chem, but now, because of her, I understand it very well. I have my final tomorrow, but I'm not even afraid, because she's prepared us so well. Sure, it is a lot of studying, but she makes the class easy and fun. She's one of the best teachers at Valley, hands down.
I absolutely LOVE her! I took Chem.51 in the summer which was hard to begin with. She made if fun! She is funny, smart, helpful and sincerely loves to teach. Just like everyone, she likes it when people show genuine interest & make an effort. She is my favorite teacher! Don't be intimidated by her first day speech! She is wonderful!
Chemistry is not an easy subject, if it isnt needed for your major dont take it. That being said this women is the sweetest person ever she will go over the same thing when asked multiple times until you either get it or give up on getting it. She tries to scare away the dead weight students early but if you are serious about doing well you will.
FRIEDMAN IS VERY HARD PERSON HER TESTS WORTH 150 POINTS AND THERE ARE 8 QUESTIONS ON THE TESTS YOU DO THE MATH. THAT'S HOW HARD HER TEST IS ALSO OLD FASHION TEACH DOES NOT KEEP HER WORDS UP SHE SAY ONE THING AND DOES OTHER. YOU BE THE JUGDE DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
This Professor is one of the best I have ever had! It is very apparent that she loves to teach. Her explanations are clear and she is very helpful. If you want to walk away having learned something, take this class. If you hope to be able to slack off and still pass the class, find a different professor.
She is just too tough for most people to handle, even the people that always get a's in other classes. just don't take her
For someone who gets mostly A's and loves chemistry, I got an F on the first exam...along with 13 of the 16 other students. 13 F's out of 16 students!!! 13 Fs, 2 As, 1 B. And the 2As had taken chem 102 before. It's a waste of time to take this class with her. This class makes me wish I was dead every Tuesday and Thursday
Shes not a bad person at all and you can tell she loves the field, but she is just too tough for most people to handle. Her point base is pretty small and that only makes things worse. I know people darn good in chemistry that struggled with her class. Overall, her class is not for most people and you should try finding someone else.
Don't take Dr. Friedman's Chemistry 51 class take my word from it, I have been there. She isn't worth of your time her test are ridiculous. No homeworks nor quizzes just three midterms and a final most of the midterms are 10 questions and each exam worth 150 questions 300 for the finals. Please stay away from this teacher if you love your life.....
THE BEST CHEMISTRY TEACHER AT VALLEY! I took other professors, but none of them compare to her teachings! I'm not good at chemistry, but with her help, I was able to do the equations with a sense of ease! TAKE HER! This comments below me are lies! She individually bases the grades on what you earn, and not as a whole class! TAKE HER!She'll help you
I couldn't imagine having had a better teacher for Chem 51. Professor Friedman extremely knowledgable in the subject matter, she does a great job teaching it. If you're not prepared to dedicate reasonable study time, let a more motivated student take a seat in her class, since you'll probably drop anyway.
She is a great instructor. Her test are hard and it requires insane studies. If you want an easy A this class is not you got to work a lot for at least a C.
She is extremely helpful and wants you to succeed in her class. Her test do not represent the material. Almost my entire class dropped and I think the highest grade on any exam was around an 85. If you are taking 102 she is a great teacher but you have to have extensive study time to even pass this class.
Dear fellas... Save urself and DO NOT TAKE HER!!! Yes she knows her material, she has been only teching it for 25 years! But her tests are very hard! You need to study 15-20 hours per week... To pass her class! Our class started with 25 ppl nd only 7 on the day of the final! Only 2 Bs in the class!
Professor Friedman's class is really hard not because she makes it that way but because chem is hard. You HAVE to study and read the book and do the problems she offers tutoring everyday. She is really helpful but her tests are difficult i studied alllll the time for this class. the lab teacher is different at the end he wasnt so bad. take her.
Tool her class I was suffering. Be prepared. To study for the whole semester. Starts off with 30 and then later on more than half of the class dropped :(
Not exaggerating when I say that I spent 35-40 hours a week self-teaching for this class. I had to do this because her lectures provided useless disorganized notes to study from later. She said to do ALL the textbook problems, which I did, but those do not reflect her test questions at all. She offers no practice exams to truly help you prepare.
Unless you're a complete Chem fanatic than expect to work your butt off on her class. Professor Friedman is a bit eccentric but she knows her stuff. However, she writes her own tests and is a tough but fair grader.
20 out of 27 dropped the class. of the people left only 4 seamed to have a chance to pass with a c. don't take her. she has an unrealistic view on the world. Not everyone taking chemistry wants to be or needs to be a chem master. i am a going for structural engineering but i need the class for transfer.
be prepared to teach yourself. she's difficult don't take her!
she's the worst teacher in the world. dont take it with her she does not help any of her students!!!everyone fails!!!
Loved her. She was great. She wanted you to pass and she answered all your questions. Test were all the equations put into one question. Just know the steps and your fine! Made me LOVE chem
LOVED her! Such a good professor. She wanted you to pass and answered all questions. Pay attention, learn the equations and your good!
Prof. Friedman is a character when it comes to teaching. Her methods go beyond what you get out of the book. You have to pay close attention to details. SIG FIGS are very important to her & should be to you as well. Practice, practice! Don't miss class! If you put in the 2x the work, you should be able to pull a solid B or an A. Written exams.
Prof. Friedman is a great teacher. If u read the chapters and solve the problems from the book you should be fine. Her problems on the exams are little harder than the one from the textbook. but if u understand the concepts u will do well. the first chapters are crucial to understand the rest of the material. I studied every day and got an A :)
Friedman is one of the best if not the best professor in valley. Her teaching is great, puts a lot of effort into her lectures! She is not boring, she has been teaching for years so she knows how to deliver a interesting lecture and blow your mind everyday. Study is a must,if you dnt have at least 2 hours or more for every lecture don't bother....
she is a very gods teacher! teaches you the material the easiest way possible.she cares about your grade as much as you do going to class helps a lot make sure to study if not it shows on your grades. don't be afraid to g to office hours it helps out a lot especially the one on one work. glad I chose her
This is so hard I would rather go to another teacher and quick ! We started of with 20 students then in the end there were only 8 left . Do not take !
I think she struggled herself going to school for chemistry that is why she makes it so hard. Takes of A LOT of points off from labs and tests, no extra credit or anything to help you. Uses too many colors on the board "to help you see", which becomes distracting. Yells and writes "WTF" on the board .Save your gpa if you plan to transfer.
Makes her test herself and takes off points for *EVERYTHING*. Labs? Takes off points for *EVERYTHING*. You will struggle for a C, I promise you. Out of her two combined classes of 25 students each, only three people passed the first two exams. I was accepted to UC Berkeley this semester and this was the hardest class in my life. AVOID AVOID AVOID
She's definitely a tough grader, BUT she's also a great teacher. If you do not have a strong understanding of CHEM 101, then you'll probably struggle with this class because she does mark you down for every little error, including sig figs. You just have to be thorough (aka paranoid) about your answers on the tests and you should be fine.
super crazy
I am a straight A student but struggled to get a C in her class. She gives no homework so it's hard to know what to study. Takes points for every little thing in labs and test. Makes up her own tests and tricks you, I used to love chemistry before I took her class. The problems in the book are easy compared to her tests.
OK she definitely knows her stuff, but she is so difficult to work with. She's rude to her students and ADMITS IT! If one student does something to tick her off, she will yell at the whole class. Your only homework are your lab reports which she knocks points off for the slightest thing. You definitely need to do a lot of studying to pass
She was my lab instructor for chem 101. Believe or not, I learned more in lab then in lecture, she never gives you answer, she will force you to think: how it comes from, how you can use it. Make sure to ask her question, she will explain you until the end. Even if she is in a rush, she would help you, she loves students who is interesting in chem
She is abusive, inflexible, and unreasonable. She shouldn't be teaching if she can't relate to people. I would not recommend taking her class as there are many excellent professors to choose from.
Do not take. She is very unprofessional and sarcastic. someone like her should not be teaching especially when it's a difficult subject to learn.
Takes of points for everything on your lab. I do not recommend taking her at all. She's everything a teacher shouldn't be
I studied my but off for this class, but she makes the tests up her self and tries to trick you. I don't think she actually wants students to do well, which is really disappointing. I think half the students dropped and most students that stayed got a C or lower. She was my first teacher at LAVC and I quit school for 3 yrs because of her.
I took her years ago and it was my biggest mistake. I ruin my grades because of her. We had 40 people in class , and only 15 survived , including me. 13 of us got C. I love chemistry, and I always had a good grade for it. I finished nursing school and never had issue with chem problems. BUT, do not take her if you caring about your GPA.
