I did enjoy this class, there was quite a bit of homework but it wasn't hard. She gives homework days just to work on your assignments and that was really nice. But an overall good teacher and good atmosphere.
Professor Gillis is great! Her class is very clear cut, she lays it all out at the beginning so you know exactly what to expect. She cares about her students and seems passionate about what she teaches. She has homework days where class is not mandatory that way you have more time to finish the work. Overall, great teacher!
The course work was somewhat difficult to get through, but being in class felt easygoing and allowed the opportunity to get real help often.
Overall a good professor, allows a lot of work days. Only real downfall is that not much feedback was given on work, but the class is easy enough and if you ask for help she is willing to give advice.
Queen Gillis was extremely helpful to students throughout the semester. She was understanding, caring, and positive and I would definitely recommend her as a professor to anyone.
Overall, Gillis was very helpful, and what is expected of your is very clear. I would not recommend skipping class as there is almost always participation activities. If you show up everyday and do your work, you will get a good grade. She does a fair job of answering questions and is very fast at responding to emails if you have questions.
Very helpful class. There's a lot of assignments but it really prepares you to succeed in future courses. If you're looking for an easy A this isn't your professor, if you're looking to learn, Gillis is your gal!
She's a great teacher who is willing to work with you, if you talk to her. She's great at helping you understand the material and how to improve your writing. She responds to emails quickly.
Good professor. I felt she didn't quite know exactly how to teach the course. Didn't give any tests, but we wrote A LOT of papers. They were short though.
A lot of writing takes place in this class. Be prepared to submit a one to two page paper almost every class period. I thought the papers would be difficult to write, but they were surprisingly easy. I enjoyed this class and I learned a lot. Really only used the text books at the beginning of the semester.
Work load was pretty crazy but seems like grades are a little lenient if you participate in class discussions and act like you care about the class. The book Weber writes was a waste of money, didn't use it a single time. There is plenty of opportunity for extra credit. Expect to write at least 2 1-2 page papers per week plus 2 major papers overall
This class was not very difficult if you stayed up-to-date on your assignments because there is a lot of them. 1-2 page papers due before every class period. Going to class is very important because there are in class writings and those points tend to add up. She's very helpful and doesn't waste your time. She gives many work days instead of class.
Gives a lot of homework. Other than that, great professor. Doesn't give much feedback unless you ask for it.
Great Professor. She assigns two literature reviews and that is most of the homework. They end up being about 14 pages each, but you work on them the whole semester so if you stay up on it its easy. She also is always there and will email back quickly if you need help.
Good Professor, pretty lenient on grading. If you show up to class and stay caught up on your assignment it's not hard to pass. Be ready to type many papers usually 1-2 pages, and two big papers.
This class was pretty good. I really liked the people. We had a very close class and so that really helped. There were a lot of assignments, but Gillis was pretty cool about me struggling to get things in on time.
This was my 2nd time taking english because i didn't pass the first time. This time it was the only class I got an A in. She gives extra credit. Takes time to work with her students in one on one conferences. Gives "work days." She brought bagels to class super easy going! She involves everyone so I felt like I fit in. Don't buy "writing matters"
Since she is a new teacher, her class was a bit unbalanced. The texts weren't always required and her notice was ambiguous or added on short notice. The writing assignments are do-able if you're used to that level, otherwise she might be overwhelming. As long as you follow the syllabus, this course should be an easy A.
Good overall professor. She isn't very clear though and updates due dates randomly without letting you know. Although she does those things it isn't hard to pass if you have already taken a college level English class.
Professor Gillis was a good professor. She does a great job of trying to help you write about what you want to write about. With that in mind, it was sometimes hard to understand exactly what she was expecting from your paper. The textbooks supplemented with the class are great. She encourages a lot of discussion in class which is great.
It was a good class!
This class was overall really good. It seemed too overwhelming in the beginning but it was more melo throughout the semester. I recommend her has a teacher.
Easy grader on your papers. Some busy work. It was a pretty easy class if you write the papers and turn in the assignments. There are in class writings, but they can be done online and turned in online. And one big 10 page paper at the end.
Good Teacher overall. Hard grader and has her preferances. She's nice and is willing to work with you.
Good teacher. Has her preferences and is a tough grader. She is willing to work with you and your problems
She's very organized and a great professor, definitely recommend her
Elizabeth is a great Professor. It is not an easy A, but if you do the work that is required and apply yourself, you should do fairly well. You will do a total of three papers throughout the semester, and you work on the first for a good 6 weeks at least. She breaks them down so you can piece them together more efficiently.
She gives lots of papers but they are not hard if your keep up on them. she has always responded to my emails and was willing to meet outside of class if needed. she is funny and likes to have a fun class and everyones opinion is respected. I likes this class. do fall behind on your homework and don't turn things in late.
For a 3 credit hour class this felt more like at least a 4 credit hour class, and this is because you'll have to do 2 papers every week that are 1-2 pages long from the first week of class. She'll ask for opinions on things, and then degrade yours if it's not what shes looking for. Uses APA format for her papers, and gives minimal feedback too.
She was really friendly and helped me out, but only gave me good feedback when I asked for it. Tons and tons of papers. You need to be in class every single day and participate.
Really nice and friendly. She is a good teacher but a hard grader and gives you good feedback on your papers. Be ready to write a lot of papers using APA format.
You write a total of 3 research papers the whole semester. If you put in the time you should do fairly well in the class. She's a tough grader but usually gives good feedback.
She was a great teacher, really nice. There was a ton of essays and summaries but she was clear on what she expected of the papers. attendance is mandatory, if you don't go you won't pass. If you stay caught up and do the work it will make your life a whole lot easier. Also you have to do some reading but the questions you answer are super easy.
This class is honestly easy if you do your work and turn it in on time. It's pretty much reading two articles a week and writing a summary on them and connecting them both in the paper. Three big literature reviews in the class, but they are not bad. Don't be lazy and just turn in the assignments. It's not bad. She's pretty cool.
If you listen to her when she's giving you feedback when you right your essay, you'll be fine. Also, go to the writing center! She loves it
Elizabeth is a good professor and is a fair grader, I had a personal conflict and she helped me schedule around it. she does not do much in class teaching, but the homework is constant until the end, which helped when you are getting ready for finals in other classes. going to class helps with the homework and in class writings
Professor cares about every student and makes sure you will understand the material given. Really amazing professor.
She thinks that people have time to do her assignments when in reality if you are just taking 3 classes then take her class, but if you're not and taking more honestly it's impossible to get other class assignments in. I got overwhelmed in the first week.
Get ready to write. Gillis is a decent professor however I don't feel that my writing has really improved this semester it just feels like I've written over 50 pages and not really progressed(That's about the workload for the semester.) Her feedback varies from vague at best to very specific. Good luck
Gillis is a good instructor. She's kind and cares about her students. Her class is interesting with a lot of open discussion. Cool subject topics and literature choices.
Professor Gillis is not only an amazing professor but an extremely forgiving professor. The only way you won't pass is if you absolutely refuse to try. She will work with you however she can and genuinely enjoys her job.
She is a decent English teacher, personally I didn't learn anything new. I felt like it was more of an online class, the only reason I went is because you do daily journals. She doesn't really give good feedback either. You will be making a lot of visits to the writing center, you'll also be writing a ton.
The papers can be hard to write, but she grades fairly.
There is a ton of writing, so be prepared to work. At times, it was hard to get feedback, but that was more due to the peer review process she uses rather than her. The first major paper is a collection of smaller papers so the process isn't as daunting. Would definitely take the class again.
She really helped me a lot with my assignments. I am on the football team and she worked according to my schedule
Didn't give clear instruction for her assignments. Once you figure it out for yourself it's not too bad
She is a very good person and is more than willing to work with her students when it comes to deadlines and extra credit. There is some vagueness that occurs when it comes to assignments and the criteria you are graded on.
Elizabeths class was unlike one I had taken before. It wasnt my favorite due to the excessive workload and amount of papers we had to write but I really respected her as a professor and person. She was caring and interested in helping you earn the grade you wanted. If you dont have an issue with writing short papers very often youll enjoy it.
Prof. Gillis was great! She gives great feedback and you'll know exactly what is expected of you. I took her Tuesdays and Thursday's morning class, so papers were practically due every time we met, but I was prepared! She is super helpful and easy to access. She will work with you and you have endless opportunities to revise papers.
I felt this class was fair. Although some of the homework requirements werent that clear the grading was fine and she gave opportunity for improvement.
Her class was not hard, just A LOT of busy work! I bought the text book and only opened it twice! There are little quizzes you need to take but they are unlimited and the same questions! You read a lot of articles to put together two literature review. She is very kind I liked her as a person, but was iffy as a professor. VERY TIME CONSUMING!
She's pretty great. Sometimes I wish she was a little more specific on her instructions. Also, she could probably use her class time a little more effectively. I felt like we wrote papers over and over again- but I definitely learned how to write a paper really well. So it was definitely worth it.
gives you no feedback
Great teacher and makes the course easier to handle with many papers it is not difficult
She is a good professor but I felt like I did not learn alot from her class. She had you read out of a book but I never did and still passed just fine.
This class was pretty easy, really basic material. I can't say it was great. Class time wasn't always used productively, sometimes lectures were really short or really had no meaning. The instruction was alright, not all that hard to understand but sometimes it was confusing the way we received it.
Paper after paper... little hard to follow expectations
Required attendance
She is a tough grader, and gives little feedback on papers. The papers have assignments that build up making the paper which are mandatory to do in order to finish the paper
Well first of all, Elizabeth gives absolutely no feedback. She uses APA format which not a lot of people have used before and expects it to be 100% perfect the first time. If something is not formatted correctly, expect it to not even be graded at all. I would not recommend her or take one of her classes ever again.
The class was easy to pass, but the professor was very disorganized. Her expectations on papers were very unclear, but were graded harshly. Attendance was mandatory and was such a waste of time because we didn't do anything in class. Lots of homework that you have to stay on top of.
She is a good professor and very easy to understand. There are assignments every week in her class but they aren't tough. She made a good use of the textbook and gives enough room for extra credit.
Professor Gillis gives feedback on all her assigned assignments and creates room for her students to improve their writing! Lots of argumentative essay but she will guide you and give specific requirements for every paper.
Elizabeth was very caring and would work with you in and outside of class, although her grading expectations and schedule were often times very confusing but talking to her normally resolved these issues.
Professor Gillis was not very clear on what to do for assignments and when she graded them she wasn't very specific on what we did wrong. During class we didn't do much, we all just kind of talked about random things.
Be aware she can be pretty tough. She is not available for help outside of class, if you need help don't email her she will not reply. She uses APA format and is really strict on it. The Digital Documentary is a hot mess. Good Luck!
She is a good professor. An easy A class, just do the assignments and turn it in on time. But she doesn't respond to emails over the weekends, other than that a good class.
She doesnt really even teach anything she just assingns thing and grades them. she once had us write a 8 page paper and then once i submitted it and got my grade back it was like 20/200 I asked her way she told me "after the first paragraph I saw an erroer and stopped reading the paper.." Thats not helpful nor productive.
Make sure to do the homework and you'll be fine. She give's good feedback and lets you re-submit.
Very nice English class.
A solid choice for English 2010. Assignments are well paced and have a lot of freedom with writing topics. Professor gives great feedback and is willing to work with students
Essays are a huge portion of the class. Be ready to write!
I had never had a professor like her. She loves what she does. She is very engaging and willing to help you when you have questions. There are only 3 units that were covered during the semester with no final exam. In the final unit there was a project that counted as the final.
Always willing to work with you outside of class, doesn't give out busy work, easy to stay caught up if you miss a day. All together, I really enjoyed this class and Elizabeth was great at teaching it.
I highly recommend taking English 2010 class from her. She is very friendly and gives good feedback. She gives options to present final papers in Adobe Spark as a video or web post which makes your paper look dynamic and interesting. She gives enough time to resubmit the papers. So there are high chances of getting a very good grade in this class.
Gillis was a great teacher. She worked well with my schedule and would respond to emails quickly. She took feedback from the class and was willing to extend due dates if the class needed more time for an assignment.
Great Prof
I LOVED having Elizabeth as my instructor. Class was enjoyable and the material she uses to teach is extremely up to date and fun. Elizabeth was very kind and explained everything in depth if you had a question and was accessible outside of class as well. I really enjoyed taking this class from her and would do it over in a heartbeat if I could!
She was a great professor and made English go by very fast this semester and after taking this class I feel as if I have a great understanding on how to write a paper.
Her class was definitely challenging not necessarily in homework because that was easy. The challenging part of this class was the thought process, and the way we approached our assignments and at the beginning I didnt really like it. But its definitely going to help in the future.
She was an amazing professors I enjoyed her class. The project we did was amazing and I really enjoyed seeing my papers get better throughout the semester. Her feedback was great and she is very helpful!
it takes her a long time to grade assignments and her grading criteria weren't that clear at all. She never stayed on topic, always talking about Comicon and cosplay plus she was always late to class. Wouldn't recommend
I would not recommend this professor. Class time was not utilized wisely. Professor Gillis would show up late and then talk about things that did not pertain to the class. Assignment and grading criteria were not clear unless you went to class but you could go once a week to get the information.
I took Elizabeth Gillis Online course and it was AMAZING! English has never been my greatest subject so I was nervous going into 2010. I thought this was going to be a stressful class and it was one of my breezey. She gives a extra credit for ever extra response in the discussion. We do 3 projects. The 3 project is just an addition to one of the 2
She just didnt explain things at all. I was confused about almost every single one of the assignments. Peers would email me that were in the same class seeing if anyone knew how to do her projects. Lots of video essays, very difficult. hard websites like Adobe spark, and premier rush to make them. I got an A bit I worked my butt off and its hard
