She made me hate science

repeats everything in the text.
She can't explain things at all. Her drawings are terrible.

can we say tangent?

Very unclear lectures

definitely rambles...but at least it's better than BI107!
I learned nothing...and can we say Skeletor????
Her class could make Einstein hate science
bad class. she's scary and likes to yell at TA's for no apparent reason

Incredibly boring. Hard tests.
i like her, shes really fair about grading, and will help you if you ask
SAVE YOURSELVES FROM THIS WOMAN AT ALL COSTS!
Woman has lost all sense of reality.
she's very excited about the material in her own way. very helpful if you seek help via office hours or emails. tests were bases soley on lecture, so take good notes and ask questions if you dont understand. she's very fair.
Pure torture, people! Only problem is, pre-med and bio majors have to take it! Ugh!
very hard material and a very hard tester, but she's fair. really boring though and EVERYTHING you need to know comes from her notes, so go to her lectures and make sure you understand everything she says. use the book to supplement what she says.
Definitely know her diagrams for tests!
A bit off the wall...a memorable quote from her is Statistics is like a bikini; what's revealed is interesting but what's hidden is crucial. The material is difficult, but she's a very fair tester.
impossible to stay awake during lectures, totally unclear, best bet is printing notes from computer and reading text!
She is a bit on the weird side, but cool. The best BI108 professor, probably. Its just that there are so many dumb clueless premeds who only take BI108 cuz they need to
She's a bit on the boring side. Tests are not that confusing. She knows her stuff.
It may not be thrilling, but she tells you exactly what you have to know, and she really likes biology.
Expect to see many slides of STDs in BI114. If you have a weak stomach--best not take the course. It's extremely interesting, although you may walk out of class wondering how many infectious diseases YOU have. Hard tests, but apparently she's helpful.
she knos what shes talking bout, but a lot of the time, its hard to follow b/c she 4gets that we dont kno everything she is talking about rite off the bat. best bet would b to go to every lecture u can, study the notes, and then glance at the book too
No Comments
She went off on too many tangents and could not keep her focus and lost all of us after the first 10 minutes. Did not explain anything.

She knows her stuff but jumps around a lot. Puts her notes online, which is helpful. It's helpful to bring those notes to lecture to know what she's talking about. Tests are pretty hard.
She was absolutely horrible... one of the worst professors I've had at BU so far... she seems to be under the impression that though the students are in an intro class she's teaching a higher level bio class... do not take her if you can at all avoid it
She is so boring! This woman expects students to know everything she is talking about. Her notes online were disorganized with a lot of information. Test are really hard too. Only way to do well is pay attention in lecture, but good luck staying awake!
Assumes students know everything...although she provides notes, they are disorganized and I couldnt understand her abbrevations...yet, she is friendly, funny, entiertaining, and willing to help
She knows the material but unfortunately does not know how to teach. She is very disorganized and her lecture is usually all over the place and it's hard to follow. Her tests seem to be about the material that she never taught. she is the worst teacher.
This lecture was painfully boring, and the tests were really hard. She scales at the end because so many people did badly; I wouldn't recommend taking this if you are not a science major.
so bad...see others' comments...agree completely
such a bad teacher: confusing, boring... don't even bother going to lecture
human disease: she's hard! she knows her stuff. tests are hard, study the class notes. don't take as a freshman/non-science major. very nice. always fall asleep in lecture. you'd think you'd be studying crazy diseases, no boring stuff (virus infect host)
for an intro class, she made you LEARN. or at least cram a lot. she has disorganzied notes, but if you can read them, you don't really need to go to class. she's eager to clear anything up for you if you ask.
Class was pretty interesting. Tests aren't easy but managable if you study for them. Gives out her class notes, which is pretty helpful. Good class for non majors because it doesn't concentrate a lot on intricate biology.
Very interesting class. Really wants students to learn and supplements lecture with slides and lecture notes; DO NOT BUY TEXTBOOK; tests are very specific and require significant studying but are manageable, recommend teacher and class
Exams are impossible. Lab instructor TF Sheuli Nath is horrible. However, very interesting. Prof is very sweet.
She is really nice, but teaches too fast and gives very difficult tests. She is helpful to talk to during office hours.
her tests were ridiculously hard, her notes were disorganzied, but she is always willing to clear things up. VERY non-recommendable for non-science majors. lab tf is very clear
Really really should retire. The worst teacher/ lecturer I have had at BU (am Junior now).
she is the sweetest woman and knows what she's talking about. the material is very hard and it takes a lot of studying but it is interesting if you put the time in. test questions are kind of ambiguous and tricky
Very sweet woman..but very complicated course. She moved through complicated topics too quickly. Tests were horribly difficult. She was always willing to help. Wouldn't recommend this class its way too easy to fall asleep during lectures.
There is so much material covered in this class which makes it very difficult. She is good at explaining and stays true to her word that she will not test you on anything not mentioned in lecture. Don't buy the textbook!
I loved her, she was so sweet. The tests were impossible, but somehow funny. At least we passed right?
Prof Godrick is such a nice person out of the classroom, however, her lectures are truely confusing...hard to follow even with her slides....rushes through the material fast as hell....exam's are okay...
She's a nice lady but she is not very good at presenting information. Her part of 108 is arguably the most difficult and she makes it even harder. Does not present info clearly at all.
In lecture, she goes pretty fast, but still manages to keep the material interesting. But her notes...are like insane! They're so incredibly confusing, and her tests run the same way. Dont ask me how I did good on them, they're difficult.
Class covers tooooons of material. I found lectures to be very interesting but I did doze off every once in awhile. tests cover tons of stuff and questions are very tricky, but interesting class. this class needs to have a discussion for durther explanation. i really liked the lab as well.
This professor is the worst teacher I have ever had. Her notes are in the wrong order and she moves through hard topics way too fast, and spends hours on easy ones. Her tests are IMPOSSIBLE no matter how much you study. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE TO!
What a great lady. She has the unenviable job of weeding out the unmotivated pre-meds. If you're a serious student you'll love her. She is very helpful.
I learned SO MUCH in this course. The lectures go fast. Lots of material.
She is always willing to help! Her notes are kinda hard to understand. My suggestion,go to class, take notes, rewrite the notes she gives you to make them understandable,go to her office hours/TF's review, and study! If you do all that you will be fine. The lecture topics and lab were really intresting.
Very interesting class and covers a lot of material. But her tests are very tricky. DO NOT BUY THE TEXT BOOK. She tell you this the 1st day of class so listen to her. If u brought it already take it back. For the lab reports the text book is on reserve in the sci/eng library.
The subject that the class covers is very...boring. Godrick knows that. She tries. Shes interesting to listen to because you can tell she knows what shes talking about. Her tests...tricky tricky. However, they are possible.
she was the worst teacher i had this semester. her notes were confusing and her lectures were boring so i fell asleep every class, if i actually went. there was no point to going to class - i went twice the second half of the semester and studyed the night before. i got a b+...no help from her.
She is often unclear in her lectures, but is very helpful during office hours. Her tests are fair if you study. Don't waste your time with the textbook. Study her notes.
exam was too easy
too easy because the exam was on her lecture notes
umm... shes not too easy... the average for her exam was 61.
Prof Godrick knows the material and teaches it well
i pray for all people taking biology with her...terrible lecturer and her tests are beyond comprehension, and her notes online dont do practically anything...if you want to do well, you'd best start studying the second you start the class, for the exam.
Better study on your own, the notes she gives you are soo sporadic you can't even follow. I didn't waste time studying because I had no idea what would be on the test and I got a 72. i think her lectures confused me more.
TERRIBLE... the lectures are so boring and don't make sense so it's really hard to take notes. The test was also hard and the average for the class was like a 60.
Her teaching methods aren't that good. Maybe she should use a computer or something so she doesn't have to be flipping papers around and causing chaos.

oh lord, I really disliked her. I didn't understand lectures, nor her notes. Her tests are crazy, but i heard that the answers are in the questions. couldn't find them though. Average was around 60...got my worst grade on that test.
Ok lecturer but it would be helpful if she learned powerpoint instead of using slide projector. Test was challenging.
unclear lecture notes, very scattered in general. her tests were the hardest of the three lecturers, but she is still a sweet lady and is willing to engage students outside of class.
She is a good scientist but no so great lecturer! Very informative one-on-one but in lecture she is very scattered! Her notes are confusing @ best! Take really good notes and print of her slides b4 going to lecture it will save you a lot of time. She also takes her test-material right from her notes
I learned a lot in this course. She was very very helpful. Go to class, you'll be fine. Nice lady.
Well, if you are not interested in bio then godrick will be a nightmare for you in teaching, but she is definitely funny and much more interesting than the other bio profs. nice lady, but can get confusing, tests are challenging but comes straight from her notes. I don't like bio, but got decent grades on tests, had to kill myself studying though
She is an excellent professor. I was impressed by the quality of her teaching...the way she teaches is just so involving. I enjoyed having her as a professor. This professor surely knows how to teach and the class is not hard if you are devoted. It's not that challenging to Ase the classes since there are frequent tests. Be sure to ask questions:)
Lectures are confusing and not supplementary. Lecture notes are written with usless shorthand. If you have this class in the morning bring a pillow and your teddy bear.
her class is very difficult to do well in, but she does make sure you pass even if it feels like you wont. study as hard as you can and youll be decent
The class notes are unhelpful and she skips around pretty frantically. It's impossible to know what to emphasize in studying and her tests are confusing. The lecture is not very helpful or interesting.
The material is always going to be difficult, but Godrick does an excellent job of helping us understand. The notes (lab manual) she gives us are helpful, but difficult to comprehend. If you've taken biology recently, especially AP bio, you will be well prepared.
Professor Godrick as a person is great because she's crazy about disease, she was able to make us laugh even though we were looking at a picture of an STD. HOWEVER, the tests are impossible and the lab is repetitive. If you have another class in mind, take it.
What annoys me most about this prof. is that you can tell she knows the stuff, she just can't teach it. She makes some odd attempt to be helpful, but doesn't succeed. 1 of the diagrams used was described by my friends & i as gum on a rope. it ended up on the exam... tests are horribly worded and complicated, but material comes from the "notebook
Jess is a wonderful lab instructor. Labs are easy and self-explanitory, and most of them lasted about an hour - only half the time we were scheduled for the class. The midterm and final exam were easy because she gives you a review sheet with pretty much all the questions that are all on the tests. Write down everything that she has on the board!
Godrick really wants to help if you come to her office hours. The exams consist of everything in the coursebook, not the text. You don't really need textbooks for reading but more for studying the figures. Lab were EASY!!
She's really nice, but not very clear during lectures. She jumps from slide to slide at times and goes a little fast. You HAVE to go to lecture, even though she gives you class notes. Definitely read the textbook, it may be more helpful than she is, but going to lecture lets you know what she thinks is important. Study diagrams !
Prof. Godrick knows her stuff, but can sometimes be difficult to understand. Read the book, use the companion website from the text, and Godrick is always happy to answer questions. She is very approachable.
Godrick is really nice but her lectures are too early in the morning and impossible to stay awake through because she has a tendancy of turning off all the lights and showing lots of boring slides. if you study, read the book and do well in lab you'll do fine. Jess, the lab teacher, is AMAZING/AWESOME/GREAT!
Shes a nice professor, but not very clear during lectures-not good at 8AM. She jumps from slide to slide & doesnt explain things too well, and she gives you class notes, but GO TO LECTURE. the notes are hard to understand-you'll see. Definitely read the textbook; it might be (most likely will be) more helpful than she is. Study hard (diagrams too)
She's smart and knows the stuff, but not at all good at teaching it. Very unclear and hard to follow. Her tests are quite specific and quite difficult considering she barely covers any useful material in class.
She is a very bad Biology teacher. I got a 96 on the first test (MONNETTE) and in hers I got a 72. That's how bad she is. I tried even HARDER on her test. She goes fast, she uses weird pictures, her notes are hieroglyphics. She wears a surgical mask in her office ALL ALONE. She bites.
GO TO LECTURE. her notes are ridiculous and hard to follow, but if you print them and take notes on them and study youll be ok. she goes very quickly, but if you dont have to copy her diagrams, its much easier to follow (but if you arent frantically copying notes lectures get boring.) her tests are very fair if you study, no surprises.
She was a horrible teacher and destroyed the grades of students in the class. She was impossible to understand and follow during lecture. she teaches the most difficult section and it's unfair. Also, unless you are failing, there is no curve in bi 107
I did not read the book - you can get away with it. Everything on Godrick's exams is in her notes, but they go into much detail and could be confusing with all the abbreviations she uses. I did okay cramming for 2 hours right before the test with her notes.
She knows a lot and it's a shame that a person with her high intellect has exteremly poor teaching skills. Her notes are hard to follow. When she goes through them in lecture, she goes so fast! Focus! I suggest you print out the S2S notes - those are much clearer. Want an A? Well, those are the kind of miracles you pray for.Get down on your knees!
Amazing teacher - she teaches in a way that respects the intelligence of her students and is always willing to answer questions and offer help. EXTREMELY fair about grading tests. Any poor rating is likely coming from a whiny 108 kid who doesn't even study anyway... if you are smart and a good student, you will love her classes.
It's really important to go to her lectures and know her notes backwards and forwards (both from your notes taken from lecture and the notes she has in her book). The book is more used to understand everything but study the facts from her notes. Don't buy the study guide, you don't use it at all. Study a lot and you'll do well - that simple with he
This was an easy class, so it's hard to judge her teaching ability. The exams are based on her notes. Anything she covers in class is what she wants you to know for the exams, but you may want to read more background than information. You have to review thoroughly, but the material is easy enough so it isn't too challenging.
Subject was interesting but extensive. She's considerate with regard to test subjects. She'll let you know exactly which topics will be on the test. I enjoyed lecture though it was sometimes boring. Good grader too.
You buy the notes directly from the Bio department and just follow them while she lectures. Lots of memorization. She likes to apply concepts to the real world of medicine with examples which is nice. Study a lot though.
Go to office hours, study study study, and suspend any need for concrete reality.
She was a nice lady but her notes are hard to follow. Don't bother reading the text, everything is in her notes. Go to lectures because her notes have strange abbreviations
You'll hate her lectures at first, because everything is SO scattered and all over the place, but you'll thank her come test day! You DO NOT need to read the book, seriously. Just memorize her note packet for each lecture and it ALL comes from there. On the notes, she also many specific numbers and percentages, but doesn't really test you on those.
Loved this class. I actually think it should be required for all International Relations majors. So relevant to the world health situation and very interesting. Don't bother buying the book, her lecture notes are more than enough. Tests are packed with info and lots of memorization but if you're at all interested, you'll be fine :)
If you are taking BI108 you do not have a choice but to run into Godrick. She is so so so hard. I went to every lecture and studied from the book like no other and still did awful. Maybe getting a tutor would help or something but she is really boring in lecture and jumps all over the place!
she is not clear, jumps all over the place, and is not helpful when asked questions
i love godrick. she is absolutely hilarious. her class is pretty boring and people have a lot of trouble staying awake, but if you can learn to laugh at her ridiculous talk about "beasties" and her disorganization- this class ends up actually being quite entertaining. p.s. i think she's from harry potter sometimes...
Professor Godrick is by far my favorite professor so far. She is very friendly and always willing to help. She makes lecture interesting, and the class is pretty easy. All her exams are multiple choice and come directly from the book of notes. Show up, pay attention, and you should do just fine.
Freshman don't take this class. This is THE coolest class in the world but not a cake-walk. Lab is super easy but Lecture isn't a joke especially if you have had no exposure to immunology and microbiology.
This class is life-changing. you should all know that the lab section for this class is identical to BI 311 Gen. Microbiology. This is a little known fact and works in students favor heavily if you take 114 then 311. Also Godrick teaches part of BI 108 and her notes from 114 are the exact same as in 108. If you want a BIG pre-med tip, take 114
She's such a nice person, but she's so boring! I fall asleep in every class. Having previous knowledge from AP Bio helps because her notes aren't very clear.
She's such a nice person, but she's so boring! I fall asleep in every class. Having previous knowledge from AP Bio helps because her notes aren't very clear. Take advantage of tutors and other people in your class.
I do not recommend taking this class unless you absolutely have to! There is a lot of material to cover and she reads off the slides. The exams are incomprehensible. Take tutoring sessions without fail if you are having trouble.
This class is extremely hard. There are so many different concepts and for an intro class, she goes very in-depth. I was a non-science major and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone just trying to fulfill a CAS requirement. The class and lab were interesting, but her tests are not worth all the stress. Try to get above average and you should be ok.
Attended this class during summer session. A lot of material for summer. Book was used as reference only. Buy her notes! Very helpful. You can listen and highlight. She responds to emails - helpful. Exams are challenging. You must stay ahead of the reading. Lab was good.
HORRIBLE CLASS!! ABSOLUTELY HATED IT!
she is a very tough teacher. She tries to make it fun but it is a boring subject. It was hard to stay awake in class. her tests are extremely tough.
DO NOT TAKE THIS IF YOU'RE A NON-BIO MAJOR. The lab and lecture material don't correlate, so you have to learn 2 sets of info. The lecture material is difficult. It's hard to stay awake in class. Overall: not worth the time or stress it takes to pass the class.
This was my favorite class at BU! To succeed is easy: go to class! Godrick is adorable and her tests are very FAIR. Lab killed my grade though :( Also, dont but the book from BU, just use her notes. THIS CLASS WAS AMAZING!
Getting a good grade in lecture is easy, as long as you attend class. I found lab to be more difficult, but I'm not a science major so that might be why. I think this is a really good class if you're trying to fulfill the natural science requirement. I actually recommend it to my friends.
Turning the lights off in an 8AM lecture is never a good idea but she did so every day. She does not follow along with slides well and jumps between ideas. Tests were difficult and did not necessarily follow the material covered in class. If you went to her with specific questions she was helpful, otherwise not.
She is very hard to understand and an intense scatter brain. The class/lab is fun and the info is good to know. I'm a freshman who thought it would be a good NS filler - i was so wrong! It is a difficult class to take w/o bio background and the tests are impossible, very detailed and unorganized. It was interesting, but not worth the hours of work.
Very hard to understand- she deviates from the main topic a lot
at 8am, in dim lighting, and in comfy lecture hall seats, it is almost impossible to stay awake with professor godrick's soft, monotone voice. this course is NOT easy; be prepare to really study; she makes you buy her lecture notes which are incomprehensible along with her teaching. i BARELY cracked open the book, but I wished I did.
She's pretty nice. I enjoyed her.
Absolutely horrible. Never missed lecture, literally READ the textbook word for word, and I'm barely getting the mean scores. She goes too fast. She's incredibly boring, and lecture is at 8AM which is unbearable. DO NOT take this class. Wait a semester and take BI 108, it counts for the same thing. Much more doable and practical.
Her class is hard, you have to really study for it. A lot of students don't like the class because the material is complex and she moves very quickly. Don't let that deter you if you like science though, the material is interesting and practical. If you can stay awake to take good notes and email her questions, the class won't be killer.
Professor Godrick is really smart, but she can sometimes be confusing because she moves so quickly. Sometimes she makes really witty or funny remarks and doesn't even realize it. Also, even though you buy her notes, treat them as an outline and take your own too. Most of the time her notes don't make sense or have weird abbreviations.
Although she can move very fast, if you ask questions she is extremely helpful and appreciates the students who do ask questions. I loved her lectures and learned a lot from them. That being said, her tests are ridiculously hard and require all but memorizing the entire text book. Her tests are extremely detailed but overall, I enjoyed BIO 105
She talks very quickly in class, and in a subject like immunology this makes it very difficult to understand all the details. I had serious trouble just keeping up with writing as she talked. She references figures in the book but half the time forgets to give page numbers. She uses old-school transparencies, so none of her images are online.
Very hard class. She talks fast/sort of goes off topic. Luckily you get note outlines for each lecture. But the tests were HARD. The questions aren't like anything she discusses or are in the book. The lab section isn't bad, but it has nothing to do with the weeks lecture (ie we will do a lab on genetics weeks before we even go over it in lecture).
I loved Godrick, she's an eccentric to be sure but is extremely knowledgeable. I learned more in her class everyday than in any other (and I'm premed). Glad I got to be her last class taught at BU
While taking this class with Godrick I soon discovered that she often did not follow the notes that were set out in her required "notes book." Her exams were hard to prepare for, and although she tried to be helpful during any hours she was available, often she would give too much info. Very disappointed as I have high interest in the biology field
