WORST TEACHER AT SBCC!!! Doesn't relate well to the students and doesn't make clear what she expects from them. She doesn't delegate well when it comes to what she wants on the final and punishes those who mistake what she wants. Hard to understand during lecture (stutters runs out of breath) Do not take her class she ruined my interest in history
dont take this class if you want to learn about the history of ancient western civilization. You will learn nothing
took this online in the summer-- formerly Prof Mizrahi--i actually liked her, she always answered emails and her class notes made me feel she wanted us to succeed. a lot of reading and writing tho-- almost a little too much. but she graded more than fairly, and gave Xtra-Credit worth 10% of your grade. learned a lot of hist + study/writing skills
Please save your self and do not take her.I signed up for another online history class with her and it was a big mistake. For one you read a lot but cannot correct her online quizzes I pointed out a question that I got wrong that was word for word correct form the book that i was correct and she wouldnt give me credit. So many good teachers not her
I sense where the negative comments are coming from, but they are somewhat overblown. The atmosphere of the class is definitely pre-college, quite "peppy" and sometimes too opinionated. She is, however a decent and reasonable person in many ways, and seems to be interested in helping people succeed. She does mix history with emotion so be warned.
I took her online class and she was really cool. Only there were a lot of assignments that didn't really help me learn anything. She also did a very poor job of explaining what she wanted out of each assignment. The experience I've had in her class definitely has not been my favorite.
She can be difficult to get through as she studders a bit and can have a pretty bad attitude at times. She isn't terribly clear on what she wants from you, but you will still be held accountable. Tip: write essays in a clear and logical manner saying what you want to say from the beginning. Present evidence. Repeat thesis in conclusion. Read a lot.
Professor Imhof, like so many of the instructors at SBCC, is knowledgeable and has a real enthusiasm for the subject. On the down side, her instructions can be rather vague.
VERY opinionated. Comes of as rude. I took her online class my first semester at college-do not take if you work as well. This class has a ton of reading because it's an online class, so it needs a lot of focus. I don't recommend taking this class online if you do not have the time.
Her online class is impractical and overwhelmingly crammed with mass amounts of work.Rather than using the book as a primary resource for quizzes/assignments she complicates assignments by various links online. Her instructions aren't clear and don't make sense.I wouldn't recommend this class to any student.
In the non online history 103 class there are only 3 assignment! The Midterm, The Final and a very broad research paper that is worth almost half of your final grade. This leaves little chance to revive a bad grade.
The hefty research paper and countless essays make this feel like a 60% English class and 40% History class. I really like history, but dread writing the research essays we have to do for EVERY CHAPTER. READ THE TEXTBOOK for quizzes b/c the questions are HARD but they come directly from the text. Assignments are tedious... Don't start them late!
I swear this was a 4 unit class. I had to check to make sure I was only getting 3 units for this. Her weekly work load for the online class overwhelmed my other 9 units of classes. My first attempt 3 semesters ago failed miserably so I could save my other class grades. I HAD to take this class as a make up and lower div. class.
This teacher makes this class horrible. Unfortunately she is the only one who teaches the class. Take any other history class. If they are all full, wait until next semester. Don't even expect to talk with her during office hours, she doesn't even live in California. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!
Make sure you complete everything by each deadline (Crucial). The reading was excessive for a few weeks. There are easy weekly quizzes and weekly 3-5 paragraph responses to reading and 1 final research paper (8 Pages) but Professor Imhof spends the entire semester preparing you for it. Challenging but rewarding course. Recommend to history majors.
Wasn't good. Took it online and did not clearly state assignment requirements in the actual assignment. Had to seek help via email on multiple occasions
AVOID AVOID AVOID! This class will ruin any interest in history you may have had. She comes off as rude, assignments lack any discernible clarity and she is TERRIBLE at communicating, it will take several days to get a response. Her feedback is condescending and offers no guidance as far as improving your skills. Don't waste your time!!
I took this class online so I had a little different experience, but her class really interesting. It consisted of a lot of essays and a lot of reading. One thing I really didn't like was how she only has one or two deadlines with a bunch of stuff due so I procrastinated a lot and usually worked on it all the night before.
I took this class online so there was a lot of reading and writing involved. She graded the essays much easier than I expected but the quizzes were very challenging. Be ready to read and write A LOT.
An extremely interesting class and the discussions were always very enlightening, but she can be really unclear. She rarely uses powerpoint making it hard to follow where she's going. Her lectures also are not in chronological order making it hard to make historical correlations. She's really nice just a really difficult teacher.
She is the PLAGUE! STAY AWAY! I like history & enjoy it very much. She is the worst professor I have ever had. She doesnt email u back for 3+ days & she doesnt help u out with any questions. She only tells u what u have done is wrong & to change it. No advice on how to change it or anything. WORST class ever. Dont take this class unless u have to.
Do yourself a favor and spare yourself the agony of taking this online class. Not so much the class, its the teacher you MUST avoid! Critiques are harsh, condescending, and offer no advice for improvement. Only 4 deadlines so you better keep up! Assignments are vague and tedious. Terrible at communicating. Consider yourselves warned!!!
The workload was unbearable, the assignments were vague, she was very harsh in her feedback and the multiple choice quizzes were full of questions that had several different answers. This class made me lose all interest in history. I do not recommend this class or teacher.
I took this class online and received an A only because I absolutely love history. However the workload is enormous (1 8-10 research paper and about 12 smaller essays). There are weekly quizzes. Her grading is erratic and I am argued with her about a few assignments and raised my grade. Hard class don't recommend unless you know your stuff.
Heavy workload(12 2pg essays, 12 Ch quizzes, 1 10-page research paper, and final) Tough grader, especially for an intro course. Is nice, but not helpful & at least does not express regard for her students success. As some1 who took history APs all through HS and 7 college history courses, the course needs serious revision in workload and grading.
Rough class. Must be disciplined to maintain sanity. Text is awful. Quizzes unclear, so just stopped w/ the text. main paper topic difficult, needs a lot of research to even get to a topic. 2 extra readings every module. Eyestrain maker big time. Lots of writing. Final is 2-4 pg essay done in 2 hours. I'm a strong writer and I found it difficult.
Low ratings here for a reason. Very tough grader and assigns an incredible amount of work over the course: lots of reading & expect 12 tests, 12 4 pg essays, a big research paper+essay final. Only take it if you're a serious student and willing to put in the time. I took this & 107, & they consumed my free time. Tough A, but doable B/C with effort.
Tough grader & lots of work as stated in other posts (seemed impossible at times with both this and her 103 class). Despite this, however, she is a good teacher & does well for online. Just dont expect any free passes, You have to know your stuff, or youll get a C. Miss any assignments, and you'll be hoping to pass. Too advanced for an into course.
terrible class hard to understand and does not grade fair stay away. You can work hard she doesn't care.
Hard class, a lot of writing and not worth the headache if you need this class look elsewhere.
The reading and the lectures were based on very broad topics, while the tests asked very specific questions which made for very poor learning. Overall she was nice, but stay away unless you have to otherwise you will have a hard time getting an A.
I took this class online over the summer (6 weeks). The information is very specific and you will come out learning something. However, you will loose any social life you once had, i promise you that. 1 7-8 page research paper, 6,3 page essays. 12,20 point quizzes and read 3-5, 30 page chapters weekly. THIS CLASS IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. good luck
Professor Imhof is a great teacher. She really loves the subject she is teaching, and it shows. She is very clear and straightforward. VERY helpful. She has a very busy life, and totally understands the busy lives of her students. I took her summer class and it was a 6 week long session, so it was VERY intense! She is GREAT!
The only thing I know about this teacher is that on the first day of class, she kicked out all the students that wanted to crash the class. Either she was being very arrogant and thought NO ONE would drop or she was just being lazy and wanted as few students as possible. Either way, we were not too impressed.
Took 137 and 138. Lots of reading, but the lectures are always fascinating, the subject is important and deep, and shes wicked smart and likes smart students who have a little bit of a gladfly attitude. A little bit. Dont take these classes if ur going to be the token Dawkins atheist. PLEASE. Turns out ur way more annoying then the true believers.
This is the worst online class. Her assignments are very vague and sound as though she wasn't fully thinking when writing the prompts. Forget writing her an email, she won't reply until more than a day has passed. She takes credit for teaching the class, but you're only teaching yourself. Even her email responses are vague. Do not take this class.
I had Imholf for this online class and in history 138, she is one of the most underrated teacher at cc and if you show an interest in the subject and work hard you will get an A
Took her 138 and is one of the most interesting classes I have ever taking, she is a great teacher and only assigns one out of class assignment. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about history and if you work hard she will notice. If you love history then she is the teacher for you and you should absolutely take any of her classes.
Got an a on an essay from her and then she brought in a writing teacher thinking it would help her and really the writing teacher grades so hard that anything you do to improve didn't help. the writing teacher thinks you dont care about the class and is a bit rude. I care about the class but its unclear what the heck they want. Quizzes were hours.
took her history 107 class online and was somehow able to pass. Awesome Teacher but She brings in a teachers assistant who essentially is running the class. The assistant is a pompous lady who even if you ask for help wont help you and even if you follow her pointers still deducts points somehow. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS if you cant handle writing!
If your thinking about taking this class, YOUR OVER IT. Not only did we tall about 6 weeks behind on course material, but she would assign essays without explaining them clearly. We completed 15 quizes for 15 chapters and we only went over 11 chapters in class. Worst Class I've Ever Taken.
I took her History 137 class on Religions in the Middle East and she's one of the best professors on campus because she wants her students to pass! She will help you out all the way. Great personality and is passionate about the subject. You won't regret taking her class.
Extremely difficult and text oriented class. But Professor Imhof can and will help you though the course. Highly recommend the class if you're up for the challenge
Professor Imhof is phenomenal! This class/professor helped me to gain a new and positive outlook on my entire learning experience. The class helped me to bend my mind in ways it had not bent before, challenging but beautiful. She is helpful, reasonable and passionate about her subject and students. She will go far to help you succeed. Take course!
I absolutely loved Imhof's history 137 course. I 100% recommend her to everyone. She is very knowledgeable in her field and shares a true passion for history in her lectures.
this class was extremely difficult, confusing & stressful. The topics were confusing and there was alot of thesis paper writing .It seemed more like an English class than history. I worked really hard on this class & still got a poor grade. She was also very demeaning and unprofessional in some of her her feedback.
Awesome professor! Would highly recommend! I should say though, if you're struggling with writing, Professor Imhof WILL help you, but if you find it difficult to write historical essays- you might want to take another class.
This class was so hard for me I had to withdrawal because I knew I wouldn't pass it. You use this website to do your work and there is no type of interaction between you and other students. She makes you do tons of thesis and writing assignments. Plus everything else from the website. Take this course if you are desperate otherwise stay away.
This class is hard. Her lectures are boring and she goes off topic a lot. She's a very sweet lady but if you need help you need to go to her office hours. Hard grader. She's really picky with what she wants and gives a bad grade if topic isn't specific enough. If you're not a good writer, I wouldn't take this class.
I loved this class and thought to myself, "Prof Imhof probably has an awesome rating on ratemyprof!" I am totally shocked, she deserves a better rating than this. EVERYTHING was open book and she assigned 1 "micro-essay" every 2 weeks, not that hard. She gives you the rubric and clearly states what she expects from each assignment.
Her level of teaching is not up to lar for what she expects from the class
There are three books are required to be read, thick books. Plus there are quizzes every week for checking if you have read the L.A Times newspaper on the Middle East issue. You will spend the first 15 mins of every class to discuss the current incidents. Grading criteria is clear; so as what will be tested during the midterm and final.
Professor Imhof always answered my emails and gave me feedback on my work. Super nice professor who cares about her students! She wouldn't let me give up, even when I wanted to quit class when I had some problems at the beginning of the semester. She encouraged me to hand on and by the end I earned an A.
This Professor really cares about students!
This is a mind blowing class. A whole lot of reading, but you think about things in a whole new way. I love this class!
All of the assignments were very clear and it was easy to get a good grade as long as you did your work. When I needed help she was always available.
This was my second class with her. She really helped me through the semester and all of the assignments worked together to help me on my final paper.
I'm loving this class! She only lectures for part of class and then we get into a big circle that she calls a workshop. We talk about why the history matters to us and what was really going on in the past! So interesting! Its a Hybrid and I wish we had more class time. Can't believe I'm saying that. The computer program is OK too.
This is my second class with her and its my favorite! I dont want to tell people she is easy, because she is not. However, she is the most dedicated and helpful teacher I have ever had at CC. If you do your work and ask her for help when you need it, it is easy to do well. The class is so interesting and I am learning so much.
Social science 101 is very useful. You will not regret if you take it. Elizabeth respects all the students.
I have never had a class like this before. I wish I had taken it when I first began at SBCC. Dr. Imhof is the most dedicated professor I have ever had. You can tell she loves teaching and really cares about all of her students. She also brought in many other professors for guest lectures that were so interesting. Class was also fun!
Easy class, no tests no midterm, she writes exactly what she expects and is a fairly easy grader. Would take again.
I can't believe Dr. Imhof is not the highest rated professor on this website. She is the most dedicated professor I have ever had. She created this class because she believes it is what every student needs and she is right! I have never felt so inspired from a class before. I actually looked forward to coming to class.
This class is soooo interesting. She is a fantastic storyteller and holds really interesting and unique discussions. She says that everyone in class is a historian and she respects us all. I can tell how much she loves teaching and how much she cares about her students. There is a good amount of reading and writing but she will help you.
This is one of those mind blowing classes that college is supposed to be all about. Come with an open mind and be willing to learn and you will have your world view shift in a life changing way! Hands down the best class at SBCC! You do have to read a lot but she is clear about what she expects and its not hard to get an A if you do your work.
Knowledgeable, Prefessional, and fair to all students.
137 was a really great class I learned so much very enlightening. Grades are never final she will let you rewrite an exam to get a 75. She is extremely understanding and the nicest teacher ever. She gives exam questions out ahead of time. There is a lot of reading but I never read it and still got a B in the class just go to all her lectures.
Great teacher. She's really nice and VERY understanding. The class was a little unorganized at times but it is a great class overall. Do all the work and it's an easy A. Perfect class to get a bit of knowledge from each of the social science classes.
There are no test in this class only 2-3 writing assignments each week. Overall very easy, and if you are undecided about your major then definitely take the class. Its a combination of all the social sciences and there are a lot of guest lectures. Lectures are usually really interesting. Imhof really cares about her students.
Really passionate about her students and would do anything to help them whenever necessary. Easy grader as long as you tried - you'll get an A. Easy class as long as you participate and show up. Last half of the class is really unorganized and spent a lot of time doing nothing when you could have been working on your research / group project
I loved this class! At the end we used what we learned during the semester to work on our own social justice projects. It was so fun to actually use what we learned in class on something that matters. I think people who wrote the class was disorganized at the end wrote their comments too soon. If you wait until the end of the class it all works
This class is amazing. Dr. Imhof conducts it like a seminar. There is a lot of discussing in class. She gets everyone to participate but not in a mean way. She cares about what you think and wants to hear your opinions. There is a lot of work, but if you do it she will help you do really well. This is the most interesting class I have ever h
I started with Dr. Imhof and this class online. She was so helpful when I struggled. I did not think I liked history or was any good at it. I took it online because I thought it would be easy. I struggled a lot and she helped me. Even online. I liked it so much I took her classes on campus. Online she is great, in person amazing!
I took her for HIST 103 (online) and it was an easy A. All of your work will be completed through an online eText Lab, in which you will complete quizzes and misc material. Just complete all the work by each due date and you will breeze by.
Very respectful and grades fairly. SHE IS AWESOME
My favorite class. The work was interesting and we studied things that mattered like race conflict in America. The class can be challenging but she helps you and is the best. most dedicated teacher I have ever had. I'm not usually an A student but she inspired me to work hard and I earned an A. I cant believe that i looked forward to class.
Such a great class! This was my first class at SBCC and I'm glad that it was this course. She is such a inspirational teacher and truly cares for her students.
teacher seemed nice, but the class was super uninteresting and had little to do with social sciences. it's basically all about ai/chatgpt. only take it if that's what you actually want to learn.
Great professor. She's caring, patient, and wants her students to succeed. She explains the material clearly and never makes you feel dumb for asking questions. Her feedback is helpful & she puts real effort into the class. If you show up and try, she supports you all the way. Highly recommend. Easy A if you go to class and take notes.
She cares a lot about her students. She brings in amazing guest speakers. Great person and teacher all around. Fair, understanding. Just wants you to care. Amazing lectures.
So sweet! Very optimistic and funny :) not too much work but some assignments are last minute so be aware of that!
Great professor!!
She is very passionate about wanting her students to learn important skills and making the lectures fun for her students. Would highly recommend and she is easy to work with, very understanding.
loved this class. this class was refreshing and was way more interesting than all of my classes this semester.
We touched resources like research database and primary resources from lectures led by great historians, philosophers, phycologist, economist, and political scientist. Dr. Imhof is very passionate about her students and class. She makes herself very accessible for student to ask for help and asks students to come see her during office hours .
Dr. Elizabeth Imhof is an amazing professor caring, kind, flexible, and truly wise. She teaches with love and positive energy. I joined her class by accident on day one and stayed because I loved her passion. I learned so much about AI and will really miss this class. Highly recommend!
