Great teacher, knows what she's talking about can get away w/o reading
No Comments
Lots of reading, but gives good hints on what is on tests
No Comments
the work sucks but she's nice and very helpful
good prof. pretty interesting class, and can usually swing the reading.
**** person, if you're a male with different opinions beware
hard-doesn't like males
Very easy, but very boring. Got an A on tests without reading required reading. Go to class before test take notes, and that's everything on the tests.
lots of reading but not a bad class, one big paper, mostly lectures, tests not to bad
One of the best teachers I've ever had at Towson. Assigned a fair amount of reading but explained it well. Tests reasonable. When I messed up she made the effort to reach out. Highly recommended.
EASY...but soooo boring...but no atendance policy so it pretty great
She gives TOO MUCH WORK. Has no life, spends time giving loads of work and grading papers. Her test are take home. Attendance is not mandatory and you will not want to go because it is so borring.
She is a very caring and nice teacher. She is understanding and you will get a good grade if you put forth the effort in your work.
Very good teacher but a lot of work. Class is boring sometimes. A LOT of reading and a lot of papers. Nice person overall. (Doesn't hate males)
Straight forward in lectures. I was never bored by them. Mangable work load. Understanding and very directed in her teaching.
Great!
i learned so much in her class and she is extremely helpful in guiding you in the class and outside in terms of advising, internships, etc. many in our class would agree that she does not hate males. one of the smartest professors i've ever had. hot too.
If you don't like her, it's because you are lazy and that's your fault.
a little too much work, but she gives you options as to which assignments you can do. tests are not too bad. funny lady. doesn't hate males
One of the best professors I've ever had. She understands and sympathizes with the student condition which puts her students on her side. Her workload is very manageable and she makes the labs fun. Her great sense of humor makes the class enjoyable.
No attendace policy, but she has no sympathy for the no shows. I was never bored by her lectures. Mangable work load. Understanding and very interesting. Go to class, and do your work.
She's funny in a mean/rude way,5 papers,2 wkshts, 20pt semi-hard midterm, 30pt final, asks trivia questions but embarrassed this girl in front of everyone because she got it wrong. 2 books to read, plus online reading.Overall rating...ok
Got an A in the clas but she's really not as great as ppl make her out to be. Lots of assignments, unreasonable grading, lots of reading from 2 books and online reading. Two worksheets and 5 papers....one midterm and one final.
a lot of reading required but most of it is pretty interesting so it's not bad. she makes typically boring subject matter seem interesting. overall a good class, as long as you go into it knowing that you will have to work a bit for your grade.
very insightful and a great lecturer. sure, you have to work for your grade, but those that think it is too much, probably are the ones who just skid by in life. if you want an easy class, don't take. if you want to learn, take it. whoever thinks she is unreasonable maybe shouldn't be in college.
If you're not willing to work for your grade then don't take this professor. She is a great lecturer and is a very fair grader. She's willing to talk to you about anything during her office hours. The subject matter was very interesting as well. HIGHLY RECOMEND!
Goes out of her way to make her lectures fun to listen to, and the lab assignments interesting. She also does not have a participation grade, and understands that being shy doesn't mean that you aren't listening. There is a lot to read, but it's worth it.
The class is great, the assignments are irrelevant and she is the worst. I would say the class is an Easy B+.
Good teacher. Kinda heavy workload but you get to pick and choose what you want to do. Fair grader and nice lady.
By far the best professor towsons sociology department has to offer. I wish i found out about this professor before my last two semesters. the class would appear to be very bland but her devotion and intrest to the subject make all classes an informative learning experiance. Very reasonable grader.
GREAT PROF!
I signed up for the class thinking I'd learn new things about Blacks living in America today, but so far, it has been a review of the civil rights era (just like AMST the 60s- yuck). Boring lectures, few videos, lots of reading and some assignments; only 2 exams. Don't take unless you like history.
Great teacher; very educated.Fair amt of work for the class but its very interesting; I think you need to be good in English bc of her writing assignments. She makes you use your writing and research skills a lot, which I liked. Two tests multiple choice and fill in the blank STUDY and youll be fine
alot of reading. alot of writing. non-essay exams. thinks too highly of herself. easy B.
I like Dr. Clifford, she is a good professor she knows her stuff. If you are black and you want to kno more about your people this is a good class to start with. Its real, and very imformative. And if you aint black its a good class to learn about black people otha than what you see on tv
Thinks very highly of herself, as most profs. Good discussions and lectures. Tests are a little tough and 2 books are boring. Easy and interesting assignments. Drop low grades. Likes to speak bad about the President and Fox news for some reason. Very nice and knows her stuff.
Dr. Clifford is very down to earth. She's a cool person and pretty funny, too. She really cares about the students and didn't put up with **** (a.k.a.the skanks who whispered in the back.)TAKE HER CLASS!

You will learn a lot, lectures are a little boring though. Two take home essay exams that take forever, two book papers, and 10 reading responses. Interesting and good class, but you will be reading and writing until the end of the earth!
amazing prof. lectures are a little boring and she loves group activities, but the assignments are a piece of cake. tests aren't hard if you study. she was one of the best teachers' i've had
nice lady, can be boring at times, midterm and final not hard if u study...alot of short writing assignments arent 2 hard. a somewhat intersting class...i would recommend
A lot of writing for an undergrad class. Take home midterm, and final. Two papers plus 10 writing assignments from the reading.
Dr. Clifford is a great professor. She is very enthusiastic and she is personable. Her writing assignments are not too hard. As long as you attend class, check her website and know when assignments are due you should get a good grade. She is great.
nice lady. take home midterm n final and 6 writing assignments and 2 short reports. doesn't take attendance. easy grade!
Never takes attendance, but thats about the only good thing to this class. Cummlative final, and she doesn't give you your mid-term back...4 writing assignments that are easy but I would not recommend this class if your lazy
Very sweet lady. Her mid term and final are really hard, but she is a leniant grader when it comes to essays. Loved her class. Would love to take another with her. She is very passionate and empathic towards the subject matter.
Great class to take! The subject matter is interesting & you can tell she loves teaching it. The work load isn't too bad (2 books, 2 papers, 2 shorter assignments) throughout the semester other than the exams. Easy exams: multiple choice questions on census data & fill-in-the-blank with a word bank.
Great prof!
Pretty good class. I wasn't very interested in the class. If you're willing to work, you can get an A. I'm kind of lazy and managed a B+
Took her for Blacks in America. She's an easy teacher but obviously selects favorites. I did well in her class, but much of it was spent either bored or trying to catch up. Yes, keep up with the material (there's a lot of it) and you'll do fine. However, don't challenge her on any of her criteria/rubric...she's liable to hold a grudge against you.
Very enthusiastic about teaching the subject. Extremely helpful and looks out for students best interest.
Very nice professor; all her notes are on Power Point so they're easy to understand. Has a few pop quizzes here and there and then a couple tests. Makes class interesting and is always willing to help out students.
LOVED HER.....She is very helpful.....It was a very easy class too mee....The mid term and final do make you want to pull ur hair out but if you study and do the readings you will do fine...I would take her again for any other classes that she teaches
FAIR PROFESSOR. LOTS OF READING. INTERESTING MATERIAL. FAIRLY EASY EXAMS. TRY NOT TO CONTRADICT HER.
For a 101 class then for it to be Soci she makes the class interesting. All though attendence is not mandatory she gives pop quizes that do count toward your grade so you should attend class. If you are one that does not open your textbook then this is not the class for you, pop quizes come from the textbooks.
I really enjoyed this class. Great test reviews - I was very nervous about taking this class but even at 8am mwf, I was still very interested in the class, discussions, readings, and videos. Everything you do in the class or for homework is worth it even if the readings seem like busy work - all in all I would definately take her again if I could.
Prof. Clifford equals amazing. Read the required readings and skim the chapters, theres pop quizzes so dont miss class. She is very easy going, and by the way Quincy is a great name Prof. Clifford
I LOVE DR. CLIFFORD, 1 OF MY FAVE PROFESSORS @ TOWSON. SHE'S A HAWK FOR WRITING ASSIGNMENTS, BUT SHE'S PASSIONATE, HELPFUL, SWEET, A SOCCER MOM AND COOKS BROWNIES TAKE HER FOR WHTEVER CLASS SHE TEACHES! I'VE HAD HER TWICE FOR SOCI 343 & 440
If you are a sociology major, you'll be bored with her class. You have to read and a chapter from the book before each class and pick 10 chapters to write about about. one page paper per chapter. You have to show up on the days that you want to turn your paper in.
BEST PROF IN THE WORLD!!! I MEAN IT!!! Take her classes :) :)
Great way of teaching. Fun class, best experience at Towson. Fair tests, finals and papers. Reading was very interesting and texts were cheap.
She's awesome!! I found the class very interesting and fun. Take her!
The best sociology professor at Towson, there are a lot of great ones but she is the best! Most organized professor ever, which helps you stay organized. She only assigns work that is relevant to the course and everything covered in class is helpful for assignments and exams. MUST TAKE!
I am obviously in the minority here but I did not really enjoy this class at all. She is not a bad professor but I found her condescending at times. There is a lot of mindless group work which I do not find appropriate for a college class. I would not recommend.
She is amazing. She was one of my favorite Professors this semester. I loved having her. She is passionate about what she teaches. A lot of reading and hard assignments but midterm and final are take home. She is very sweet and interesting.
ONE OF THE BEST PROF IN TOWSON!!!!!
great professor
Wonderful teacher. Very helpful with papers and classes are interactive and interesting.
Interesting class and she's a great Prof. Try not to procrastinate; if you do 5 writing assignments asap, you'll be so happy you did it! Lots of reading, 3 assigned books, and book report. 2 exams, both take home. Sounds good right? -Well, she's a hard grader and the exam is long. Still, very cool class.
I loved professor clifford she was great
AMAZING. Dr. Clifford is simply amazing. If you enjoy Sociology courses, you must take her. Definitely show up to class *even* if you haven't read the reading because you will at least get an outline of what you need to take from it, which is important for the take-home exams. 3 books, 5 reading reflections, 2 take-home exams. Worth it.
She's an amazing professor. Some students thought she was a bit tough on grading, but then again they also never contributed in group work. Make sure to read the assigned chapters and finish her assignments on time. She's also the chair so if you need advising, she knows her stuff!
Weekly hw, tests (are not as bad as I anticipated), written assignments. YOU MUST READ THE BOOKS!! I somehow got through without reading, I do not recommend doing this. Quizlets are available online to help with the exams, search blacks in america. Participation matters!
Dr. Clifford is very sweet, funny, and interesting. The class is simple enough, but there are lots of pop quizzes or activity worksheets. Make sure you do well on the few exams and you're good to go.
Very organized. Not boring but not super entertaining. The course content was very interesting to me, I learned so much. A couple papers, maybe like 3 or 4. Some group work now and then. A midterm and a final.
I love professor Clifford. Her class is based on your own reading outside of the classroom so be expected to read atleast 60 pages every two nights. There are two major papers 5 pages and two short papers1-2 pages. You need to read EVERYTHING she assigns. Two exams, they are fill in the blank but she gives a word bank.
She is very knowledgeable about sociology, especially race/ ethnicity. Her classes are discussion based and there is a lot of reading for homework but theyre easy to skim. She doesnt use blackboard often which can be frustrating but shes accessible outside of class and can let you know your standing. Enough homework to get some grades in the book
There is a lot of reading and several papers. Attendance is definitely needed to pass the class. The subject of the class is important and interesting, but her lectures often miss the mark. She is also condescending and often treats her students like primary children. She does not show her students respect, which makes the class difficult.
Dr. Clifford is a really sweet and caring professor, but.... be ready for a lot of work! The workload is mainly papers and discussion questions. She grades attendance and participation from the virtual sessions. There's a lot of group discussion so be prepared before class.
Dr. C is amazing! Extremely knowledgeable on the subject- does her own research. She truly cares about her students and is very open. She is a personable prof., very down to earth, and I learned so much from her. The class was easy as long as you showed up! Sure there was a lot of reading, but overall easy class with a great prof
A lot of open discussion in the class to break up lectures which is nice. Due dates were clear and fair, not a hectic class.
Professor Clifford was great! We had a total of 5 assignments (excluding the final) 3 papers and 2 test. She is a rather easy grader on the essays as well. Her classes are somewhat boring and consist of her lecturing, but are not mandatory and neither are the readings or movie assignments.
Professor Clifford was my best professor and I really looked forward to her class. She is very understanding abt attendance and really takes in consideration our personal matters. Do show up to class, study, participate, and you'll do great. Our chapters were $1 each which is extremely considerate. Overall I def recommend anyone take this class!
Professor Clifford was one of the hardest graders I have ever had at Towson. She relied heavily on the readings each week and the papers for grades. She was particular about grammar and different writing mistakes in the essays. The readings involved reading entire books and understanding everything about them to be able to discuss/ write essays.
She doesn't grade attendance but it matters as she doesn't post lectures & grades pop quizzes. There's a lot of reading along with some documentaries, podcast but she does a dollar per chap & a 10 dollar book. 3 essays, midterm, & final. If you pay attention & do the readings, it should be an easy A.
Dr. Clifford is a good professor and is a knowledgeable sociologist! I would say I learned a lot about the class and she made lectures interactive/open discussions. However, there is quite a bit of reading and pop quizzes! Other than that, the 2 exams are pretty easy and there's 3 papers to complete in this class!
Professor Clifford is wonderful. She is a bit of a tough grader, but she cares about her students. Attendance is necessary if you want to do well in the class. Make sure you take good notes, it really helps you in the long run. There are three papers, along with a midterm and a final. As long as you stay on top of assignments, you will do well.
I can't with this professor. If you want to do good in this class, you need to take advantage of the exams and get good scores on them. It's impossible to get a 100% on any written thing in her class. She acts like she's an English teacher. I'm not one of the students that don't do work. I DO EVERYTHING AND she still takes points off the writing!!!
She was very willing to help me with any problems I had during her clear office hours, and was very kind during and outside of class. The class is heavy on outside reading but it is not very expensive and enjoyable if you are interested in Sociology. If you aren't a Sociology major though, she might not be the best professor for you
Professor Clifford is amazing! Her lectures are always fun and she explains concepts in a way that are easy to grasp. Be sure to attend because there will be pop quizzes that account for 10% of your grade. The exams can be difficult but you will just need to read the assigned book(s). Two exams, one cumulative final, and two papers.
Really nice professor, just show up to class and participate some. There are pop quizzes but they are super easy if you show up to class.
this class just wasn't my thing, i didn't really enjoy it. Some parts of it were really easy, like some of the pop quizzes were EASY. She starts the pop quizzes ON THE DOT when class starts, i once missed one for being 5 min late. It's easy enough, the topic and the class just wasn't for me, found it really boring most of the time. 2 papers 3 exams
This class is discussion-based. I took the honors version and even so very easy. Exams are literally just study the terms, and you got it. It's so easy, like beyond belief easy but go over the study guide anyways just for fun. People skip all the time but there are pop quizzes so don't do it too much like me. Clifford is so smart, I love her
