She is SO awesome!! really cares about her students, and is ALWAYS there to answer questions. Quizes usually every meeting, but if you stay on top of the work they are fairly simple..and help you ace tests...very very nice and caring, i rec. you take her!!!!
if you didn't like bio before.. she would definitely change your mind. everything on her lecture comes out on the quizzes and tests. i definitely would take her class over and over again
One of the best teachers I've ever had!
She's easy just write good notes and study them and you'll do fine.
She is a great teacher. Take good notes and you will do fine. Tests and quiz are all based on lecture. Lots of quizes but they are helpful in studying for the tests. Awesome teacher
her teaching style wasnt my cup of tea, but she is extremely easy and i love her as a person! so sweet and helpful! u really dont need the textbook, i took her for summer. I ended up with a B, and i have a 4.0! messed up my gpa but i got rid of my bio class in the summer while taking another class. i recommend her
best freakin teacher ive had in my entire life! stronly reccomended ms. jordan has changed my life forever i love her !
She is outstanding!! Crystal clear lecture!!! She tells you what she wants, then give her what she needs! Be docile and cool, then you will be fine. She is a really nice person! Be nice to her!!
okay so i don't understand how she has such a high rating, her teaching methods are not very good. yeah people got A's but need i remind you they were biology inclined.
It's an easy class. She says they'll be quizzes and there are quizzes. She gives you a study guide for exams, and the exams are exactly what the guides say they'll be. She also believes in leaving early if it's feasible. Exams are non-cumulative, so that rocks.
She is super charming but, prepare for speedy lectures, unhelpful test-guides and faulty grading system - by design. No make-up quiz/test not even for hospital schedule and her "generous" 15-points extra-credit for 5-page research & presentation will not elevate your mid-grade to the next grade. Hard to believe but don't trust that charm.
I agree. Quizzes every single week are 25% of the grade = a constant stress that lowers grades. Unclear grading system: promises to grade any 3 best of 4 tests then changes the final to 25%. The 15-points "Extra Credit" is not extra as it?s added to the 400 total and carries no weight. No upgrade for participation. Her charm is misleading -true.
Her lecture is useless. She goes over things fast as heaven, leaving you nothing.U need to copy almost every single word from the ppt otherwise u'll have no other way to follow up.Quizes are tricky. She is not good at teaching.U have to learn everything all by yourself or from your fellow mates.Dont expect to learn much from her class.
I am taking Bio3 with Jordan and she is very nice, Her lecture is clear. However, you need to take good notes, because all quizzes and exam based on notes 100%. This is not a easy class. Everyone two weeks a quiz and every four week one exam. Lowest one got dropped. You got to study to get an A.
Easy class. Take good notes, and all the notes. She moves fast, so textbook helps to fill in blanks. Quizzes at the beginning of each class so study the previous weeks notes. Study for tests. Final NOT cumulative. That's it. Very straightforward, all memorization. For night class, you ALWAYS get out early. No HW besides studying. Make flash cards.
really easy class if u take notes :)
She's cute, nice, and easy. Those are elementary adjectives but it is all true. Her tests are all multiple choice and her study guides help A LOT. Lectures come straight from the book and you have to do one ethogram which was really easy). You really can't ask for a better teacher. Her good looks might distract you though
Anyone who complains that her class is hard or her lectures are useless should drop out of school RIGHT NOW and go work at Mc Donalds. Her lectures come STRAIGHT from the book. Do you guys not know how to read or just have a slight case of retardation? Her tests are easy and she gives you a study guide. WOW what more can you ask for?
Nice and also expert in subject. Answers all your questions. Tests are multiple choice and not easy. If you listen to lectures, read text and ask questions, you will do fine. Subject up to day like global warming.
Great teacher!! She's clear in her lectures and cares about her students; she'll take time to answer your questions. Her quizzes and exams are based on her notes (not the book), so it's important to take good notes. She moves fast, but it's manageable. No surprises. She announces everything ahead of time, so it's your fault if you're not prepared.
you gotta study and read. not easy but interesting. quiz once in about 2 classes. she grades following the syllabus. its important to get her idea and how you should study as soon as the semester starts. the sooner you get that, the better the grade you'll get. she is very kind and willing to teach so go ask her in person if you have questions
Great, friendly teacher! Really cares about helping you learn and keeping you engaged. Rarely need the book. I took in winter, and she would let us out a little early often. Tests are straight-forward scantron. She would quiz us every few lectures to make sure we're staying on top. No homework. Easy on the eyes. Would love to get her again.
She's very good at teaching. She is distractingly attractive, but the necessity of passing this class does over ride the distractingness (although only barely), people say you don't need the book but they're wrong, if you don't have any prior knowledge of the subject than you will need the book. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to learn.
Unless you can keep up in a fast-paced class, then I wouldn't recommend taking her in the winter/summer session. I took her in the summer and dropped out because the work was a heavy load and too much at one time. Word of advice: do not take Bio 3 with her unless you are in advance in math, because every bit of info in Bio 3 is all chemistry based.
Jordan's method of teaching isn't exactly suitable for all types of students. My background is entrenched in bio, but there were a lot of international students who struggled. If you're good at bio, take her she's an easy A. If not, you may struggle. Overall a solid professor with cute idiosyncrasies. A bit neurotic. Very attractive.
Although I took her one summer and then dropped out because of the workload, I found her to be a very good professor. Read the book and notes because that's what her tests are all based off of. She seems to explain things in a very great and clear way, and I wish that I could take her again for a longer semester.
Professor Jordan is a good teacher. She's very nice and helpful. I took her during the summer & the class flew by. She is very easy to talk to, and welcomes general conversations. As many others have said, she is attractive, so paying attention is pretty easy. Lastly, I would recommend the book- it helps a lot. Go Boston!
This class is pretty hard but it could be easier if you study very often and go to class. I like Professor Jordan she's nice and friendly and made the class interesting. We hardly used the textbook but you should get the book to study from to get clarity from her lectures.
i love this professor she is extremely helpful & she makes the class looks easy (it is not an easy class)she really wants her students to pass her class. i would definitely recommend her.
Grade based on 3 tests 75% and quizs + small writing assignments 25%. I used the book for to study for the first test which was a waste of time as everything you need to know she tells you in class. Therefore, attendance is pretty mandatory. If you're a bio major I wouldn't recommend her, but if you're looking for an easy class then shes cool.
GREAT CLASS!!!!!!!!n The professor is very helpful. She teaches from the book which is nice and also has a way of making class interesting. I loved the class the only reason i would not recomend the class is if english is not your first language. The students who struggled were mostly foreigners who could not keep up with the fast pace of the class
THIS TEACHER IS THE BEST!!! She's very intimidating and scary when you see the first quiz but then once u get the hang of the class its cake. I got one of the highest grades in the class by printing out her notes (3 per page, click black and white) and wrote down EVERYTHING she said and studied that. book not necessary. TAKE HER, RECOMMENDED!!!!!!
This teacher is helpful and wants all of her students to be successful in class. She tells us how to study and what to study. I really enjoy going to her class because she makes it fun. Another good thing is that the teacher is beautiful.
This class is the bomb! Professor knows how to think like a student and teaches her subject that way. You know how to study and prepare for her exams cuz she tells us what to study. Otherwise, I'd give up on studying and take a good chance on her multiple-choice-answers exams...Nice! Loved Biology this semester!
Easy class relative to other professors. Lecture are straight forward & short. Gives study guides. 4 exams = 66%grade & rest 33% from quizzes & labs. Most questions come from lectures. However, buy book to better understand the material bc exams questions tend to be tricky. ohh n She's cute
This teacher is very helpful and she makes learning Biology fun. She tells us what to study and what will be on the test. She gives a study guide which helps. Very friendly and will do whatever she can to help her students be successful in her class.
Her tests are 50 multiple questions which you can manage if you go over her power points and lecture notes. All the questions on test/quiz come from her lectures and power points so you don't need to buy a text book. She is a passionate teacher who wants everyone in her class to be successful. Take her this course is great.
A LOT of memorization but that's Biology for ya. Every class is lecture based so be prepared to take lots of notes. Did not need book @ all so don't waste your time. Quizzes took place every few weeks with 3 major exams. She's cute and funny and really knows her stuff. FYI: You CANNOT miss any exam or reschedule for that matter. Highly recommend!
Professor Jordan is by far the best teacher I have ever taken at SMC. She teaches as well as professor fink for anatomy but she is actually nice and caring. She went out of her way to help us all in anyway she could. I Wish she would teach physiology. Her class isn't hard if you study a little bit. Teachers can really take some lessons from her.
I love professor Jordan. She is very smart and knowledgeable/passionate about what she teaches. If you take good notes and study, and do the final paper correctly, the A is easily within reach. You have to memorize alot but its not hard and she really is a good teacher. She is also good looking., I recommend this class.
Great teacher. She definitely cares about her subject and making sure we leave the class better people. Got an A, thought she was easy, but you have to study her notes. TAKE NOTES. What she says is on the quizzes. Also cute, but a little old.
Really regret taking her class. Ruined my GPA. Put in huge amount of time and effort, not that she cared. Suggest you take this req w/another prof.
Do not take this class! Her quizzes and exams are unpredictable, and, unlike other professors, she finds pleasure in tricking her students with ridiculous questions. This class killed my GPA.
Do not TAKE this class! It KILLED my gpa!
Questions for her exams come straight from the lectures & powerpoints. She's crystal clear about everything discussed in class, and encourages her students to do well. Overall, it's an easy A. She doesn't try to trick you on tests, just simply pay attention & you'll be fine. For those saying her class is difficult must be joking!
She is an easy teacher. Exams come from the book. Also, she is a total babe. 10/10
Good class. She is clear and her exams all come from the book and pp presentations. It is also a fun class if your class participates.
Amazing professor you will learn so much from taking her her tests are a little hard but that's because I took her in the winter session but she really cares about her students her tests and quizes are based off of lecture a book isn't necessary for this class
Professor Jordan is awesome! She knows what she is teaching, also she is passionate about it. You are going to learn a lot. She is very organized. Test are what she taught in class. She is hot.
Professor Jordan is a great professor! Really easy class if you pay attention during class, and then review after lecture. Her lectures are based off her book. So if you didn't catch something, just read the book and you will be fine. She gives extra points on exams, so if you are standing on a B+ it will most likely become an A. Really nice!!! GL
I get it, she's passionate about this subject but seriously, she's more of an activist than a scientist and if you sign up for this class expecting a lot of Bio or Science, don't. Yes there are some basic environmental knowledge but it felt a little like scratching the surface for me.
this class is really her trying to convince students to think as activist , there isn't really much leaning,
Only take this class if you are really into the environment, I took it to fulfill a science requirement and felt left out in a class full of earth biscuits. Her quizes can be tricky and detailed even if you read, as well as her tests- which contain tons of info. She judges you if you do not agree with the things she believes in such as veganism.
I loved her class. For winter: 3 exams and many quizzes. Exams are not easy but not tough if you studied, but they are long (about 80 questions, multiple choice). Not too much HW Her lectures are inspiring and if you are good with notes, you don't need the book (for HW you need it though). Lectures very clear. Easy A if you study, hard A if don't.
Professor Jordan is AMAZING! It really is an introduction class, but you will leave with so many new perspectives and valueable knowledge. She is also very smart and funny, and you always leave the class with a smile. It is not that tough, the book is really easy to read and there are many discussions. As long as you are in it, you will learn!
Professor Jordan is a good teacher and very passionate. I really enjoyed taking her class this past summer. Her tests are hard but if you study the notes and go over the information they are straight forward she is amazing
Prof Jordan is the most inspirational teacher I've ever had. Everyone should take this class, it is critically important!! She is a passionate activist and that really comes through in all the lectures. The class isn't too hard, and the textbook that she wrote is very well written. Exams aren't too hard. Behave in class or she will call you out!
Very knowledgeable! Gives quizzes that help with the exams. Group study is recommended for this class. Study and you will be fine.
Very sweet professor which makes the class interesting! No homework just 3 article discussion and 3 exam. 65% passing grade and honestly it's very easy to get an A as long as you attend her class though she rarely take attendance. Multiple choice exam and take home article discussion. Enjoyed her class despite not putting enough effort for exams.
AMAZING! Course mostly lecture & discussion-based, but she's so passionate - makes it easy to learn. Material is pretty detailed, but show up daily, take good notes & she loves questions - it'll assure success! No real HW besides studying PPTs which she posts online. Environmentally conscious. Charming & kind. If you want to learn, take her class!
A wonderful professor and an even more amazing person. Prof Jordan practices what she preaches with finesse. If you'd like to learn more about the environment from a woman who has worldly experience, take this class! The textbook is mandatory (brand new because of the homework to turn in) but very straight forward. Your eyes will open wider.
Her class was difficult, even as an introductory class. Do not recommend unless you are highly familiar with biological science. Group study HIGHLY recommended, but DO NOT take Bio 02 with another science or math. It's so much harder. You barely use the book. Don't bother correcting your last name to her as she outed a student for doing so.
Alright class, though I learned less than I expected to. Prof is rigid about her teaching methods and defensive when she senses criticism. Her class utilizes a book she wrote herself, which is not well structured nor in-depth enough for her quizzes. Easy tests, simple work. Id recommend reading Wikipedia occasionally as a supplement
Amazing professor!! Absolutely loved how socially aware she was. She teaches you a lot and makes you second guess a ton of things, in a good way. Keep up with studying, you must study to pass this class!!
do it if you love bio. i love bio
A good professor who can be a bit wacky at times with her environmentalist speeches and what have you. Tests are hard if you do not study and a textbook isn't really needed. It would be a good idea to form study groups for her class however.
Probably one of the best professors I have ever had. Makes you work hard for your grade, but as long as you study hard, put in the effort, and prepare well, you should do find. Highly recommend Prof Jordan, she really does want you to do well in her class, and cares about her students.
Wrst professor I had in a long time. Short classes, quizzes everyday, each lab is usually done in 2 different days, if you are absent on the first day, you cant turn it in, not even for parcial grade. Unfair to students, annoying, judges you if you dont agree with her. she threats giving the whole class a pop quiz if she sees a phone. bully etc..
If she doesnt like you, you wont pass. she will find a way of not letting you do the assignments, wether you went to the bathroom without asking her for permission or were 15 min late to class. She will make up a new rule and wont let you do it just because. Beware of unprofessional professors!!
This class is extremely boring to say the least, I feel like I'm back in high school where you are not allowed to breath unless the professor says so, unless you follow all her weird rules -- you won't succeed. I'm taking because I love bio but I wish I had read the reviews earlier so I could chose one of the many other great professors at SMC...
Her quizzes are exactly about the material covered in class, tests somewhat difficult. Labs are easy, she gives LOTS of time to finish those. No homework. Respect her and she will respect you back. Don't argue with her, she might seem weak but she will put you in your place.
Professor Jordan is so passionate about this subject, its contagious. Important lectures everyday, 4 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 paper, and extra credit online quizzes. She likes opinionated students and class discussions. By the end of this course you'll walk away better informed and more aware of ways to reduce your carbon foot print!
Professor Jordan is incredibly passionate and creates an engaging environment that is part lecture and part open discussion. She's an incredible teacher and clearly knows her stuff. There aren't very many grades so studying is a must, but some extra credit opportunities are available. Love her :)
This was an amazing course; Professor Jordan is an amazing professor! Highly recommend using the book when studying; it's by the professor and works off of the lectures heavily. Extra credit chapter quizzes are extremely helpful, tests are quite fair and come straight from the lecture. Take this class if you can, I learned an unbelievable amount!
Biology 3, even though it's supposed to be "bio for non-stem majors", is an extremely difficult class, despite being an introductory class. Lots of Cs. Most of your grade will be based on four big tests. But Jordan is an AMAZING professor!!! She is inspiring and I'm never bored. The class is fast paced, so make sure you stay on top of everything.
The class is hard, but any Bio class will be. Prof Jordan really cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. Lots of quizzes but if you go to class you'll do totally fine and they are a good cushion for your grade. No cumulative final which is great. Labs are easy. Just study hard and you'll be fine. Offers extra credit. Great professor
This is a great class that I recommend taking. The teacher cares a lot about the environment and the topics in class it shows during the lectures. The textbook was written by the teacher so it exactly matches the course material. due to this, All you really need to do is read the chapters and memorize the keywords.
This class was all around not difficult. Just have to read the book and study the slides of her lectures. Prof. Jordan is a nice teacher and always tries to encourage a good class discussions. But, shes a strict vegan, activist that is strongly treasures her views, so, if you dont have the same views, you may recieve snotty remarks from her.
Prof. JORDAN is awesome! The energy that she brings to her lectures is inspiring. She wants students to get involved and participate in class discussions. Read a chapters ahead of time so that you can answer questions she asks in class. Hint hint this a good way to show teachers you're studying the material. Good luck, you get what you put in.
Took her for Bio 3. To sum things up: She creates lecture slides Creates a study guide Gives out 2 types of quizzes: lecture quiz and lab quiz. She also drops the lowest quiz Gives extra credit Exams are fair. What you see on the slides will be on the exam. Put in the effort and you will pass
Professor Jordan was so friendly and approachable! Definitely my favorite professor that I've had so far. I loved her class so much that I decided to study ecology :-)
Egoistic teacher who only cares about is her word, and doesnt care about her students needs. Never have an online class with her, since theres nothing but to get confused. Know it all teacher. She goes over her lecture once, even though it was online. Not allowed to record classes. Good side is that she explains well.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH PROFESSOR JORDAN!! She won't give you feedback at all. She makes her tests extremely difficult and confusing! Her lectures are super-fast pace and she doesn't give you time to digest any of the material and she gets frustrated when you ask her questions. Her tests are long but give you very short time to finish.
Definitely do not take this professor with this class this year. She may be a great teacher when it comes to taking her class in person but she certainly is not when it comes to online. Unfortunately the online transition has not been easy for her and it certainly shows, shes incredibly inpatient with student needs when they do not align with hers
A sharp-tempered, self-righteous lady who doesnt realize the confusions she creates. 10 good students had a field day every class; 10 bad students expressed their frustration and were quelled; and about 20 students (including myself) were cowed into silence, praying to Science God to have pity on these pathetic souls trapped in the black hole.
Professor Jordan is wonderful! Her lectures are interesting, she makes herself available to answer questions outside of class, and study guides are provided prior to each exam. It is not an easy class. It is biology; you will do well if you study, read the textbook, and take good notes.
Took prof. Jordan over the summer during covid, and it was manageable. Study for the quizzes because there's so little time per question!! Exams aren't difficult if you attend the lectures and read presentations. Virtual labs were easy. She talks about a plant-based diet every class, so if you're not into that lifestyle you might get bored.
She covers lots of details in her lectures. As a result, no textbook is needed if you take proper notes. I took her class during the winter semester. Therefore, we had a quiz and an exam pretty much every week. She records her lectures and provides access to them for a week. This was quite helpful in completing my notes taken during the class.
The online textbook is given so it's free. Your grade on canvas won't be the same as the one on your transcript since she goes off of a point system. During the winter semester, she gives 4 exams, 4 lab reports(each worth 10 points), 6 quizzes(timed)&you take them before class start. Lab simulations (easy). Lecture recordings help for tests
Over 20 online labs that take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour to complete. Her discussions, quizzes, and especially her tests are really difficult and overly complicated for no reason. Her zooms are really long and hard to follow along. You can get an A in the class you just have to put a lot of time and effort into the class.
Professor Jordan is overall a good person at heart but as a professor she lacks in teaching the real facts. Her feelings and the facts get mixed up in her teaching and you tend to not understand what is going on in the class and on tests. Constantly talking about herself and her adventures. I read the class book, with her it doesn' help with exams.
Horrible course. Tests are nearly impossible with barely enough time to finish all the questions
She talks really fast during the lectures so its easier to take notes with the recording. The tests and quizzes are specifically about the lectures so if you skipped them (even if you read the book) she might mark you wrong in short answer questions. Class is easy if you take notes during the lecture and study those
Inspiring professor. Took her bio 3 course over the winter semester and loved it. Professor Jordan is very passionate and not that difficult at all. Class is very engaging. Not sure why there are negative reviews honestly. Almost like some folks are surprised you are expected to put in some effort to pass your classes. Would highly recommend!
She was ok, no textbook needed. You need to take SUPER detailed notes during class bc her tests and quizzes have questions that are very specific to what was discussed during lecture. She goes on rants about her personal views sometimes, but if you study hard and take good notes she's ok. Not very accommodating to personal requests or needs tho.
Avoid professor Jordan at all costs! I love biology and Ive managed to get an A because of my efforts alone. not once I dared asking her questions after being traumatized by the way she humiliates and bullies students. I wish there were cameras recording her lectures so she could be held accountable. Shes narcissistic, rude and unprofessional.
I encourage you to find another professor if biology is an interest/ major of yours. In regards to quizzes,if you have studied biology on your own (or have taken numerous classes surrounding the subject) she will believe you're cheating if you don't QUOTE something from the lectures.
Her class was stressful because she talked at a fast pace and we had to write down every detail of what she said. Her quizzes and exams focused ONLY on what had been discussed in class and if you missed ONE detail it could affect your grade A LOT. She makes things unnecessarily complicated in a way that sets a lot of students up for failure.
I never write bad reviews, but this was the worst professor I had in my whole life. She truly traumatized me. She is not a nice human, and she forgets she is there to teach, not to show off how better she (thinks) is.
