It's clear that Dr. Kline really loves teaching biology, she just isn't great at it. She skims over everything pretty quickly in class, and her exams could be tricky (lots of "A and B," "B and C," "all of the above" questions). Going to SI probably saved my grade. She's not the worst professor ever, just not the best either.
Dr. Kline is the professor that is willing to have six hours of office hours on the Sunday before a Monday exam. She recognizes her course is hard and does not try to make it easy. If you are willing to learn, she will go above and beyond to teach you-- but it won't be easy. If you do well, you know the content. 5 Exams no Final.
Dr. Kline really cares about her students learning. The class over all is pretty difficult, but she really does her best to help her students. She goes through power points pretty quickly, but that's my only complaint about her. She loves biology and wants you to love it too. Study hard, read the book, DO THE MENTORING and you should do decent.
This class seriously isn't as bad as it's hyped up to be, but it is tough. Dr. Kline makes it doable. She really cares about students and is so fun and goofy during lectures. She will keep you engaged and is always willing to help. Stay on top of reading ahead, go to class and do tophat, and USE HER STUDY GUIDE. Don't take 1107 with anyone else!
This class is definitely a lot of work but Dr. Kline makes it a lot more doable. She's really passionate about biology and cares a lot about her students. Office hours are good and she gives lots of review for tests. Definitely read the textbook though, she tends to rush through slides.
She only taught the second half of the semester but my grade and understanding improved greatly with her. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She goes out of her way to help everyone understand the material and even uses every day references to explain complicated topics. Her lectures get a bit boring at times but she is great.
Dr. Kline is one of the best professors that I have had a Uconn so far! Her class is not easy, her exams cover a lot of material and there is a cumulative final but she really wants you to succeed. She gives you really clear learning objectives and will help you in literally any way possible. DEFINITELY take bio1107 with her!!!!
A little quirky but a great teacher. All I've heard are the horror stories about bio; I was her first full semester class and she is much better than the alternative prof. Great class, kind of boring, lot of material, but she really helps. Love her!
Kline is the sweetest professor, but her exams are very difficult. I did poorly on the first exam, but I scheduled time with her one on one and did exceptional on the following exam. She even personally emailed me saying how proud she was. She is the nicest person you will ever meet and really wants you to succeed. Talk to her and you will be fine.
Dr. Kline is one of the nicest professors ever. She wants to see everyone succeed and is willing to meet whenever you need outside of class. But her tests are super difficult. Lab saved my grade. Definitely go to SI
Dr Kline is an amazing professor who really cares about her students. At first the exams seemed really difficult, but I went to office hours and mentoring sessions which helped me so much! Do the readings before class and go to her office hours, youll be fine! She does an amazing job at helping her students and explaining the concepts.
Dr. Kline really cares about her students. She wants them to do well and really learn biology. The content of this class is not easy, but she tries to be as transparent as possible for her exams and even for labs. She really values feedback and takes it into account. She still recognizes me around campus and says hi.
Dr. Klein is a solid choice for intro bio. That being said, this class is a little more rigorous for a freshman course. But if you're MCB, this class really just scrapes the surface of the major. Later courses will be much harder than this - so work hard and understand the basics! There is a huge curve in the class. Listen to her in lecture!
LOTS of reading and note taking, but Kline is the sweetest and you can tell she really wants her students to do well. She's super passionate about what she's teaching and is always excited to be in class. Also, she has a cat named pancake which is pretty cool. Mentoring is really helpful, which I found out pretty late in the semester.
I took this class as synchronous online. The lab section content is disconnected from the lecture and didn't really help me. She doesn't really lecture during class, and instead assumes you did the pre-reading and pre-class video (which you have to do to pass the tests). She is really passionate about biology but I wish she lectured more in lecture
Took this class in Spring 2020. Sweetest prof, so caring and understanding when we switched online. Read before class, attend, and take notes and you'll be fine. Lab all depends on your TA. This class doesn't deserve its bad rep with Kline, she's great. Genuinely wants students to do well and learn. She loves the subject and makes it interesting.
Kline is so sweet but there is a lot of preparation you have to do for class. During class we got through very little.
Highly recommend taking biology 1107 with Kline. The course content can be difficult, especially if you don't read the assigned textbook pages before the lecture, but she does a really good job at explaining things and answering questions. She's also very understanding and a really nice person in general and offers many resources for you succeed.
Ms. Kline is super nice and it distracts you from the fact that the class is difficult. For the first time in your life, you may need to read the textbook because you will not do well if you don't. I managed to scrap by with a B (with AP Bio knowledge) but you can get an easy A if you go to every lecture and read what Ms. Kline recommends to read.
The tests are so hard and the lectures just involve her reading off of her slides. The reading is a lot too and the lab is moving at a completely different pace from the lecture. Really bad experience.
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Kline. Absolutely amazing professor! Incredibly kind, goes out of her way to help you succeed (review sessions every day leading up to final, practice exams). Yes 1107 is hard but if you put in the effort and truly want to succeed Dr. Kline will certainly help you do that. Take advantage of all the resources
Professor Kline is very nice and caring. She is absolutely a wonderful human being. However, I don't think she really taught a lot this semester. Most of our classes were small group meetings that never really accomplished anything. The lecture portion of class was very superficial compared to the tests. The tests were super hard with no curve.
Bio1107 is a tough class for many people, but Professor Kline really cares about her students succeeding. The exams were difficult but she provides plenty of availability for assistance if needed. Honestly, many of the people who did not do well were the ones who did not show up to class or do the readings and then complained about their grade.
Dr. Kline is a lovely woman, but she comes across like a kindergarten teacher, not a distinguished professor. She's decided to rewrite the order of the curriculum and the new order is a mess. Almost all the work you do will be on your own. I really wish she'd just lecture and then give the exams. Plus she requires expensive and unnecessary software
This class was really difficult and I did not earn the highest grade; however, Dr. Kline is the best. She really wants her students to do well and succeed. She is so motivating and praises students for their little achievements. She is awesome! Her tests were very difficult and the material is hefty, but she is the best! I would take again.
Super nice teacher, but you wont do well if you dont read the textbook. Lots to read, and tests were kinda hard, but overall good class. Kline makes sure you have as much help as you need outside of class (SI, tutors, office hours) and cares very much about her students and loves her job. Hard class, but would love to have her as a prof again
Dr. Kline is a great teacher, but I think the issue lies in the class. The material is difficult, the course moves extremely fast, and the topics aren't in order. We go from a broader subject to a smaller subject without taking the time to connect things. The textbooks aren't that big of a help. I really like just watching some youtube videos.
Dr. Kline cares about the subject and her students, and it shows. She's genuinely invested in your learning; she goes beyond the amount of effort I've seen any other prof put in. Had to take this class online, so lecture time was halved due to the # of students - only 1/2 the material was actually discussed in class. Textbook heavy & lab is hardish
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. It is unfair. It did not teach me anything. I just felt myself drowning in all the readings and group documents that were never on the test. The SI did not help either. Sure, the prof is nice but that does not get you the grade or make this course easier. I had a terrible experience and I wish I could go back.
Dr. Kline is really nice and cares about her students, but her class is very difficult. Lots of reading and homework that for me didn't really help. Her exams are difficult and hard to get done in the time limit she gives. SI is always cancelled, and the group activities are the only thing that helps
Dr. Kline is super caring and accomodating, and she wants you to succeed. However, her class is also an immense amount of work, and once you fall behind, it's tough to catch back up again. Her exams are very, very challenging, and if they weren't open notes, there's no way I'd pass. Lab section is not aligned with lecture and is so much work too.
sweetest prof ever. Class is no joke, you need to take good notes and go to lecture because the exams are hard. She wants you to succeed always and she wants to help you! It's a lot to learn but I think she runs the class really well and presents the information really well. I'd take her again if the course wasn't so hard, but thats biol1107 for ya
Terrible teacher, be prepared to teach yourself. The textbook is you best friend in this class. Her slides don't align sometimes with what she says will be on the test. Her class format is awful and makes it hard to learn. Her test questions are VERY hard. Don't waste your time if you need a teacher that is actually going to teach you.
Kline is the best! She really wanted students to learn and was always available if you had questions. She explained things really well; just do all of the textbook readings and you'll do great! 5 exams throughout the semester, the last one is cumulative but they're honestly not too hard. Love Dr. Kline would def take her class again!
Dr. Kline is the sweetest professor I have ever had! The class however is very difficult but I think that the way that she teaches is interesting and effective. There is a lot of reading to do and the pre class videos definitely add to the amount of time studying but it works. It is mostly teaching yourself and then having the professor review.
The slides she post do not mean anything. You have to read the textbook, and essentially teach yourself the material. The exams are multiple choice 50 questions in 50 minutes.
Dr Kline was a sweet person, just not a great professor. I had to teach myself all of the material because her lectures and slides were not helpful. Her main source of teaching was telling the students to read the book. And her exams were super hard. Be prepared to teach yourself the course.
Dr Kline is a really nice professor but her teaching style is pretty difficult to adjust to. Lecture was pretty much just group work instead of her lecturing. She posts videos that don't cover all the material. You have to teach everything to yourself, and tests are extremely hard also.
Literally the kindest professor Ive ever had at UConn. Shes willing to work with you and is very accessible. Her exams are not hard if you read up on material and are familiar with the big ideas. Put a huge focus on the pre-lecture vids and turn to the book for more clarity. Lecture is a good place to bring up questions.
Dr. Kline is very nice, but her class is difficult. There is tons of reading each week so you really have to plan it out. She also doesn't really teach and its very individualized. Her exams are very hard and you barely get time to do them. She is nice and willing to give points back if you talk to her. Overall it was ok but wouldn't take it again
Dr. Kline is a great person. Super nice and always willing to explain concepts 1, 5, even ten or fifty more times if she has to. I guess my only issue was that she was great at teaching concepts, but not connecting them, which I feel was a majority of the tests. Despite that, still a great person and would take a class with her again.
She is so nice but at the same time doesn't teach much, she always posts pre class video, which is super long. She uses more than half of the class doing group project which I learnt nothing, and rushes through to get everything done. She is super nice and accessible outside of class. Tests are challenging
She's a great professor who really explains tough topics in an understandable way. I would recommend creating a doc with the study objectives and answering them as you go through the content. Then, as the test gets closer, all you have to do is read through the doc. Also, take advantage of office hours and the mentoring (it's really helpful!).
The course moves very quickly, and while it is very interesting, there is not a lot of time to go over tough subjects, and when asking questions in class, you may end up more confused than helped. Pre-lecture quizzes are difficult, and the structure of the class was not beneficial for my kind of learning.
Dr. Kline is one of the nicest and most caring professors I've ever had. She's extremely willing to help and genuinely seems like she just wants to create a better learning environment students. A lot of people seem to be complaining about the test difficulty, even though they were open-note, and literally just multiple choice.
I had heard so many things about Kline so I decided to take her last year, I am coming back to rate because this course was genuinely so difficult. Although Kline is a nice person, the hours that I put into this course studying did not pay off. Her exams are incredibly difficult despite being open note, and hard to finish before the time limit.
Strongly recommend taking it if you really need it or else please dont. She adds a lot of resources for you to study but at the same time is takes away your time for studying and it does not cover the content that will be on the exam. The exams are super hard. You have to understand the topic or else youll fail. Go to mentoring it will help.
Kline is very nice and likes when people come to her office hours. She also gives quizzes and assignments, so the tests aren't worth as much. The tests aren't too hard, and they are open note and no lockdown browser so if you study you will be fine.
Dr. Kline is a great teacher, is a very kind person and you can tell that she is so passionate about what she does. This class is known for being incredibly hard and it definitely lives up to it. Get ready to learn a ton of info in a very small time frame. Dr. Kline is very accessible outside of class and and provides a ton of material to help you.
While there is a lot of outside class work you have to do to keep up, it should be expected since it is a weeding-out class for bio majors. Her teaching methods seem unconventional but when you actually try them it does make it easier to retain information. Just put in the work for this class and you should be fine.
She was amazing!!! tries really hard to make sure she can help, all the tests are online, no lockdown, 50 MC in about 50 min. She does pre class videos and records all her lectures. She does active teaching so in class time is not all lecture, you get to participate and she is just the sweetest to talk to and its really easy to ask for help.
You have to really work in this class, and there is a paper and quiz for every class. Exams are all multiple choice, but they are a, b, or a&b which makes them difficult. She does make herself accessible outside of class and provides many ways to get help. Overall, a difficult class but manageably.
Kline gets a lot of hate for being more independent in learning but she tells you exactly what you have to do to do well; read the textbook, take the practice quizzes, do the assignments, and go to lecture. In the beginning, I was thrown off by the amount of reading but it gets easier and you really learn how to read a textbook. Great class tbh!
Her prelecture videos are vital, I would watch them before I read the textbook to know what to look for. Dont skip lectures, you can get away with it, they are recorded but they were always so useful and gives so much time to answer questions. Do not slack off, you will fall behind easily so as long as you keep up with the work youll be fine
The course itself is challenging, but the professor is super caring. She's willing to help outside of the class and you can tell that she's passionate about her job.
I took Kline Spring 2021 but I remember she mentioned she reads all her rate my profs so I figured I'd post this anyway. I absolutely loved her. A professor that made you truly feel like your success was her success. Very quirky and nice lol. Her study guides for tests are excellent and if your a stem major you'll use what you learn now in future.
Kline is better than Abbot. She cares a lot and gives good feedback on what you need to study. Don't take her online though, the online section is always echoing.
Kline clearly cares about her students doing well. There is a decent amount of work for each lecture, including pre-lecture videos which I recommend watching, a quiz on most lectures (that you take after lecture online), and a worksheet. The biggest upside for this class is the open-note exams. Study groups are recommended.
I'm not going to lie - I strongly disliked this course. I thought the lectures were entirely unproductive and didn't help me learn. I learned through SI and the textbook. The test answers are always A,B, C, A and B, or A B and C. It was a pain and very difficult. That being said, she is a very optimistic and caring professor. Exams are open note
I don't understand why so many people like Dr. Kline. Her teaching style is awful and her exams are impossible. And I had an 86.8 and she didn't round me. And I worked very hard to even get the 86.8.
Very difficult class BUT Kline is absolutely amazing at answering questions and making the class bearable. Go to lecture, do all the work she assigns, try to comprehend... literally the only way you will do well. Its easy to fall behind (trust) but stay on top of everything and you will do more than fine! Her lecture complements labs. Love Kline.
Kline is extremely caring and offers lots of help outside of class. Lots of reading and watching videos outside of class. Def don't skip the pre class vids- can get by with skimming the textbook this way. Read and watch the videos with the chapter objectives she provides in mind- will save time this way. Class is not too hard when u put in the work
She eats! Leaves no crumbs.
A very caring and helpful professor, extremely passionate. This class was a breeze if you read the textbook and take notes, I never watched videos or attended lectures bc I was good with notes. Tests are super easy if you take notes on the book. Love her, she's a sweetie. Love this class. You can easily just skim the book and watch videos though!
If you cannot get Kline for 1107 simply do not take the course.
LOVE dr kline's class. really engages you with the material. it was a W class but the papers are split up so there's never longer than a 5 page paper that you have to do. definitely improves your writing. fun projects. attendance isnt part of your grade but you won't know what's going on if you always skip
Dr. Kline was an amazing professor all around. She always made herself available outside of class for any reason, and her lectures were comprehensive and easy to follow. Her tests are based directly off of the learning objectives of each lecture, and they are open notes.
You definitely want Kline as a professor if you are taking 1107. The exams are open browser, open note, and open book. Now don't think it's easy because of that because her exam questions require you to understand and apply the concepts. She's a great professor, I barely attended lecture in person because she posted the videos online.
Prof. Kline is very kind and caring. 1107 is a tough class. Lab bit me really hard, it's like 45% of your grade so even if you get A's on all the exams if you get a lower lab grade it will hurt you. Do not slack on lab. If you had AP biology you will be fine, but don't think you can breeze through it because you want an A in lab.
Dr. Kline is the most caring, kind, and knowledgable professor I have had. She makes the syllabus very clear so we know when things are due and when assessments are coming up. She cares about helping her students excel. Her exams are fair if you keep up with the material and do the online learning curves. I found reading the textbook very helpful.
Dr. Kline was going through some personal stuff this semester so she was often late with posting required materials which was annoying but understandable. Otherwise a very easy class and lovely, caring prof! She posts recordings (w/ closed captions when possible) of all lectures, but I'd still recommend going to class. Tests are open-note.
One of the best professors. I could go on and on about her amazing qualities. She is an absolute sweetheart who genuinely cares for all her students. She makes herself available and responds quickly to emails. All exams are online (no class) and open note and use internet. Exam answers are not available online but not hard if you know the content.
She barely teaches during class and you are supposed to learn all the content from the 8 min pre class video she posts which is very unrealistic. Her tests are very difficult and even reading the book and having notes I still struggled on every test. She offers no extra credit and curves nothing which sucks.
Kline is the best bio professor you are going to have. It is biology so it is going to be hard and you are going to have to do outside work like read the book. Overall she knows basically everything about biology and anything else I would trust her with my life. Very enthusiastic, tests are open notes open everything but still hard only 5% of grade
Would honestly put my life on the line for Dr Kline. Shes amazing- so personable and truly cares and wants her students to succeed. Its a difficult class but she makes learning fun and is VERY accessible outside of class. Her passion for teaching and bio is evident. Her exams are hard and require a lot of thinking but they are doable. Love her!
Dr. Kline is so caring and such a kind professor. Lectures are interactive and there are in-class assignments that you have to complete by the night before an exam. Exams are open-book and online taken from anywhere you want. Keep up with the notes and draw the diagrams that are posted bc those are really helpful. Loved this class!
All of the exams in this course are online and open note, which is a godsend. The homework is on Achieve and you get endless attempts to get a 100. The only thing that is bringing my grade down is the terrible quizzes in lab, but that is not her course. I wish there was an opportunity to get extra credit to help my grade, but overall she is great
Kline was the kindest professor that I've had thus far at UConn. The 6 exams were all open note/book/internet. The homework was online and you had unlimited tries. Kline was super accessible outside of the classroom. The course should be an easy A if you show up to class and study for the lab quizzes. TAs are great and lab is not too bad.
Dr. Kline has a clear interest in the matter she is lecturing about. The material can be challenging at times, however if you use all of your resources she offers you should be okay. Tests are online and open note, all multiple choice. Overall not a bad class for how heavy the material is.
As a professor you should understand your students. Dr Kline failed to do that. This professor is not flexible and lacks awareness of students diverse needs.
She's so sweet and will genuinely help if you need it in her class. Definitely take her for BIOL 1107 if you can. The only problem I had in her class was that the lectures/lessons seemed a little disorganized, and her slides did not cover everything on the exams. Exams and the final are open note/no lockdown browser, though, and the lab is fun.
A professor that actually cares a lot about the subject but also her students. She is very accessible and understanding. Attendance isn't mandatory because the lectures are recorded and everything covered in class gets posted. Exams are open note and online, including the final which can be taken virtually.
Compared to the other bio 1107 professor, Kline is good. In terms of exams and grading, she is crazy. She will give you SO much homework but at the end of the day, it really doesn't count for much as her exams consume the majority of the grade. Her exams are LONG and multiple choice with up to 6 answer choices. Her exams are extremely unrealistic.
She really cares about her students. Has a great personality. And the tests are open note and online
Dr. Kline does a great job teaching, and there are many opportunities to get bonus points and extra help (when there is space in SI). But It's a weed-out course. It's made to be hard, and it is. All classes are recorded and posted so you can go back and take notes. I would recommend going to class; she offers lots of bonus credit for participation.
Dr. Kline is one of the most caring professors I've ever taken a class with. She is consistently available outside of class, provides multiple extra credit opportunities, and has systems in place to get supplementary help. That being said this is a weed out course and therefore the content is heavy and difficult. We need more profs like Dr. Kline
Dr. Kline is the most personable, easy to talk to the professor I have ever met. Her classes are also very easy to understand!
Dr. Kline made this class a little better than I expected. I was expecting that I would get a C as my final grade but the way her class is formatted helps boost your grade even if you don't do amazing on your exams. I did not go to any lectures but she has the lectures recorded which is helpful. The lab is the most important part of this course.
Dr. Kline cares for her students. Her top priority is ensuring that you've left the room with more than you came in with. She's clear about her expectations but remains open to criticism and is flexible when she can be. This was supposed to be my hardest course this semester but she made it the one I looked most forward to.
Amazing professor and extremely caring. If you go to lectures and do the work assigned (which you have weeks to do), you should do just fine in the class. The exams were online on lockdown browser and are only 5% of your overall grade each. There is also extra credit if you participate in class.
Do the homework and assignments. Tests are currently online w/ lockdown browser. Lab grade makes up a huge part of overall grade. Prof is kind.
Non-science or pre-med major who took this class because of the reviews and I don't regret it. A weed-out course, but she makes it hard not to get a decent grade in her class. Loved her enthusiasm for the subject making a somewhat mundane subject interesting. I highly recommend her!!!
Lots of exams that asked a lot of thinking questions, all online exams with lockdown browser though. Have to definitely study, or have a good foundation from highschool. Stupid curriculum though with fish and frog anatomy. Lab was harder than lecture.
Kline is a really great professor who has a genuine passion for bio and teaching. The class itself was overall pretty easy but tests are pretty much application so don't get used to memorizing. She offered extra credit for in class participation. Lab makes up a lot of your grade so study for lab quizzes
I loved my queen Dr. Kline! She is so passionate about Biology and cares a lot about her students. If you have to take BIOL 1107, take it with Kline, not Abbot. Tests are worth 5% each and they are outside of the classroom and open note. She also offers bonus points during the lecture if you participate.
Dr. Kline is your best bet for 1107. If you are prepared to read the textbook, you'll be able to do well on the tests (on Lockdown/at home/only worth 5%). Lab is straightforward and should be an easy grade boost, though the weekly homework/prelab was a little annoying at times. She gives extra credit for class participation.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. I love the flipped classroom teaching style. I learned so much with minimal effort. Her grading structure took the pressure off "testing well". She is engaging and explains VERY well. She bends over backward to help her students understand and succeed. Lab is harder, highly recommend utilizing lab office hours.
Clearly the better 1107 option. FOR THE KIDS WHO TOOK AP BIO: this will be the easiest science class you've ever taken. Take notes to refresh your memory, a few new concepts in college level class, but so manageable. We love Kline
Everyone gave this professor a good rating but personally I did not like her style of teaching at all. The are 5 exams and each exam is worth 5% of your grade. You have to read the textbook otherwise you will be lost during lecture since she just sums up the textbook. She talks really fast and her exams are all situation based.
Dr Kline is a QUEEN! Her tests are 5% each + shes really helpful in office hours+reviews! She bends backwards so her students can do well (including test reviews on weekends) The people that complain about her just havent taken a course that requires work, dont listen to them! Just make sure to read the textbook before class like she recommends ;)
Dr. Kline is an angel. Some topics can be challenging but she always as if we need any extra review. Exams are only 5% of your grade, lots of extra credit. Can be challenging at times but lecture slides have everything you need. Adaptive quizzes are 13% of your grade and its a guaranteed 100% if you do them. She's your best bet for bio 1107
Very caring and respectful, always happy to be there, and has A TON of time outside of class for her students.
Very very caring professor. Go to lectures! She actually explains the material. If you read the textbook and put in the work to succeed, you will. Each test is only worth 5% of your grade, and the final is 7%.
Dr. Kline is an amazing individual! She's very kind and cares about her students. She's accessible outside the classroom and also provides extra credit for those struggling. Fair warning, her exams are no longer take home/open note for those reading prior reviews. My only complaint was how her exams were structured; they are very situation based.
Her exams are no longer online; they're all on scantron papers. Your grade is divided 45% from lab and the rest from lecture. Exams aren't worth a lot, and neither is the final, so you have the chance to tank them still and pass if you do well in the lab. I found lab to be easier. Exams are all situation based and lecture summarizes the textbook.
She has online exams and a decent chunk of the class are graded on the lab. Be ready, as the weekly lab quizzes (and especially the practical at the end) are one of the hardest parts of the course.
Passionate professor who wants her students to succeed. She is available for extra-help through her one-on-ones, office hours, or virtual exam reviews. She explains concepts well so attend lectures. If you skip get in class assignment answers from a friend. Lab grade and extra-credit provide grade buffer so you don't have to stress about exams.
Dr. Kline makes time for her students in and out of class through engaging lectures and offering extra credit opportunities and review sessions. The exams are decent if you read the content and attend lecture/take good notes. Lab is more tedious with weekly quizzes. She had to speed through later content which wasn't great but overall, she's good.
The level of depth into biology she goes into doesn't feel proper for a freshman gen ed. If it were the only class you were taking, it would be a lot more manageable, but with multiple challenging courses, the workload borders on unconquerable. The lab was better but the weekly quizzes were a challenge. Exams are very hypothetical.
Loved this professor! She was amazing to all her students. Does 1 on 1 basically everyday, and walk in meetings if not busy. Reading the textbook is IMPORTANT! I'm a horrible reader and is dyslexic so reading the textbook was really hard. I do say it was some what my fault for the grade I got, it was my first semester here so it was very new for me.
Very kind and understanding
Great professor who makes the material engaging. Flipped classroom and lab work are key. Utilize office hours and tools like Unstuck ai for study prep. Exams aren't too difficult if you stay on top of the work.
Although I ended up with an A in the class, I will say that it was not thanks to Dr. Kline. Her lectures were very unhelpful for me and I quickly realized that coming to class didn't matter - she bases her exams off of the textbook. Also, her exams were very hypothetical based and extremely confusing. I worked VERY hard in lab to compensate
Took this class Spring 2024, when exams were open-note. Her exams are def easier than Abbott. Take her for an easier time in lecture. Lab is mostly where I struggled bc each question was so specific. Only took this class for a CLAS requirement, I'm not even a pre-med major :(
She's a very kind person and cares about her students, but honestly her style of "active" teaching doesn't really work for me; too much of class ends up being spent on the in-class assignment and not enough spent on actual teaching, pre-class videos are definitely important. Exams are relatively tough but not "unfair" really.
simply overhyped. the 5's are likely from when she did open note/open book take home exams, which is no longer the case.
Professor Kline is very caring about her students and is enthusiastic to teach biology. The structure of the course makes it easier to pass biology than you might think which is a good thing. exams dont make up a lot of the grade but they are tough and ask hypothetical questions which might be confusing. She makes a note to help struggling students
Lecture style was horrible, run. Personally hated lecture because it was all over the place.
I took this class as a business major for my lab credit requirement, and I enjoyed it a lot! Dr. Kline made lecture very engaging and offered lots of opportunities for extra credit. The exams are pretty tough because a lot of the questions are hypothetical, but if you read the textbook and schedule one-on-one meetings, you'll do well in the class!
Bottom line. You will not find many professors across any discipline as amazing as Dr. Kline. Class is structured so you understand concepts and information start to finish. She is accessible email, office hours, during class to assist you in anyway possible.
Kline's class is one of the better of gen bio classes. But, I found her exams difficult. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities but assigns a lot of readings. We have 6 total exams, in person lockdown and her questions are situation-based so it's difficult to study. The lab portion was also extremely time consuming, but helped w/studying.
You won't find a professor more passionate about teaching. Always available for help as needed. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Exams really test your application of knowledge rather than strict memorization. Bottom line, if you're into biology/related fields, her class is amazing. If not, it's gonna be tough.
her lecture style was very off putting to me.
She is a very nice professor and cares about her students. Her exams are honestly easy (no notes, MC), I ended up overpreparing for all of them then realized when taking them that I could have studied for half the time. They're MC and only worth a few % each. She's also adorable. Take her and cherish it, I was so sad to leave this class.
Kline is extremely kind, enthusiastic, and willing to help. I recommend going to her office hours. She gives extra credit throughout the semester so take advantage. Exams were not super difficult. Make sure you have a good TA for lab because it will make your life a lot easier. I had Prachi and she was terrible...avoid her at all costs.
Kline was always so helpful. All of her exams were online on the lockdown browser, and you could use your notes, including the final. Kline made this class understandable.
The sweetest professor ever and she truly cares about all of her students. She explains things very well in lecture, but her exams are very situational, so very hard. There are 6 exams in person with lockdown browser and doesn't give any partial credit. Lecture is 55% of grade and 37 of that is just exams. Lab is easy and cool.
Extremely hard professor. Exams are situational/application based and super difficult, very hard to study for. On lockdown browser with no notes. They're also pretty much every other week so you can never rest. Reading heavy. During lectures she just assumes you know what she's talking about and talks very fast. Passive aggressive towards students
Kline cares so much, but this doesn't help. Very little extra credit (1-5) points per exam. Don't bother with the readings, they're never helpful on exams, and she focuses too much on little things than what she tests on. Her practice questions are useless. No more open-note exams. However, you can fail every exam and do well. FOCUS ON THE LAB!!!!
She is the GOAT, however exams are all practical application and are difficult. Attending lecture and reading textbook are required in order to pass exams. Beware of lab which is 45% of overall grade. Lecture can be confusing, but she's very accessible outside of class and she truly cares for her students. Very kind and willing to work with you.
Kline is so freaking nice and personable. Accessible outside of class (OFFICE HOURS). Exams are all application based (loves asking questions about broken systems!). Took her class over summer so timeline was different. FOCUS ON DOING WELL IN LAB. Lab quizzes/practicals may seem light but add up to be worth a lot in the end. Take BIOL1107 with her!
Only got a bad grade because of my lab TA sent from the devil. But Kline is incredible. If you need help, she wants you to succeed, so reach out!
Dr. Kline is a pretty good professor. The subject she teaches is extremely difficult though. Despite this, her expectations are relatively reasonable, and she doesn't design the course to set you up for failure. This course requires a lot of work though, so make sure your schedule accommodates for it, as you will spend many hours studying it.
Took in summer, so my fault for the grade because I was sick a bit. CRAZY curve for summer course, but definitely pretty hard content. Kline is actually a great teacher who cares about how her students do.
She's really kind and if you like try and go to office hours you will succeed.
She's very caring but it doesn't help with exams, they're all application based and the readings and practice problems never helped me, I struggled a lot with the tests; no break either since they're biweekly tests. As long as you do the assignments and do well in lab though, you'll pass.
Honestly, Dr. Kline is a good professor, but her lectures sucked. Everything was in a pre-class video, so there really was no point in coming to class. Exams are mostly 'what if' questions, so be sure to know application; however, the 5 exams were worth 5% each, and the final is 7%. If you do good in lab and complete the homework, you'll be fine.
Students must watch pre-lecture videos and complete textbook readings for each class. The lecture component of the course is very interactive; Dr. Kline takes questions about the reading/video and draws relevant processes. Tests are 45 MCQs. Dr. Kline is very accessible. Go to her office hours if you're struggling or want help preparing for exams.
She is passionate about biology and wants her students to understand the content. Attendance is not mandatory, she records all lectures and is very accessible if students have questions during or outside of lecture. She does do a reverse learning style though so be prepared to have work outside of class, but if you stay on track you should get an A
Dr. Kline is one of the kindest professors ever. She is so passionate about her biology and is incredibly knowledgable. This class is content heavy but she is always accessible and willing to help, she genuinely wants to see her student to succeed so much. Take her if possible!
FOCUS ON LAB! doing all extra credit + gradescopes + perform well in lab, you can earn an A with 87% on every exam. Class average was 80%, so hard class but doable. when studying, prioritize flowcharts (A → B → C) NOT memorization- most questions r application: "what happens if B fails?" so u answer "C fails, A still works."
