Tremendously difficult.
very unclear and boring
yes, she is difficult, but she's a very intelligent and helpful teacher. people that don't like her probably didn't study REALLY hard. she's very tough, but she'll bend over backwards to help you out.
I took this class as an online course and I had to drop it because I was required to visit her once a week in order to get a good grade. What's the purpose of taking a distance learning class if I have to see her every week??
Also took her online. Weekly visits to her office WERE NOT required, but were extra credit. She did have three review session which were helpful. As 4 online, she doesn't do well. takes too long to return tests. U R on your own in the on line class.
gives lots of extra credit!
nice person
nice woman. not easy class, but not hard. she makes you study which isn't bad. read the books, study for tests and pay attn to the lectures. she makes archaeology pretty interesting, considering...
Her class sessions were always dull, unanimated, and often unorganized. Exams seemed to deviate away from what was covered in lecture. She is a helpful person but tough grader and boring :) I'd think twice about taking her
She makes you work but if you do what you're supposed to do, you'll learn a lot. She's so helpful ... visit her in her office! She's there for a reason! I enjoyed this class much more than I thought I would.
don't ever take her online course
dr. lawlor has the incontestable ability to make any subject boring.
Good teacher, but man her tests are tough!
I recomend going to her office hours. Call her Dr. Lawlor and you will be on her good side. I enjoyed the class.
Lawlor is a really great professor very helpful and accessible.
Lawlor is really organized, but she teaches at a lower level. SHe sort of speaks and teaches down. She seems very aware of school politics and kind of over does it.
Damn, that was a really hard class. If you stay awake and take KILLER notes, you might do well.
Took an online course, she was decent. Tests were fairly easy. One of the better online classes i took - very well organized and structured.

her online class is hard to keep up with. You have to really get into the book and her website. Hard to follow but a nice lady
She is hard; her test are difficult & have nothing to do with the study guide, must read & take good notes, office hours help if your failing
I am an A student, and I recieved a C in her class. On an essay that I had to write I got an F, I found this odd, especially seeing that I got A's on all of my English 1A essays. When I asked for explanation, she was not open to discussion. Also, her tests were not based on what was taught.
one needs to spend an enormous amount of time in order to ace all the tests.
Pretty difficult class. The study guides have nothing to do with the exams. However, she is fairly generous on the exam portion of the test. She is a nice woman and a good teacher but don't take her if you're looking for an easy A.
She was very hard in her grading of the homework.I got an F on an essay in her class with a 68 requirement, but yet I got all A's in my English 1A class. She was not open to debate about the subject. Her tests were very difficult, and not based on lectures.
This was the worst class ever! She treats everyone like they're in elementary school. The study guides didn't go with what was on the tests. The lectures were long and boring. I would not recommend this class.
If you dont want to be in academic probation dont take professor lawlor. shes knows her archaeology but too tough. I dont think she knows how to write the letter A. Oh..and she never misses a day of instruction. I think if Albert Einstein took her Archaeology class he'll fail pretty badly.
She is very helpful and tries to make the learning experience easier with visual & hands on. Taking her online quizzes help A Lot on the test in class.
her class is completely impossible. she tries to help you with her "meetings" but it doesn't help at ALL. she teaches as if she's teaching to elementary school kids, but tests as if everyone is a anthropology major. shes too hard.
This class was harder than her anthro 1 class, and this one had less info. You have to really read the book, and if you don't, you may as well forget passing. The exams are hard as hell, but she can be nice, but still treats every student like an elementary school class.
This class is not cool. All her midterms were like finals with multiple choice and essays. Her final was 50 mulitple choice questions and an extra credit essay (That's it). If you want a good grade in her class, be sure participate A LOT in her class.
NOT THAT EASY YOU REALLY HAVE TO READ AND STUDY THE BOOK AND TAKE THE ONLINE QUIZZES AND SHE MAKES YOU WRITE A STUPID POEM OR SONG ON SOMETHING YOU LEARNED. SHE DOES TRY TO MAKE YOU LEARN, THOUGH, BY USING VISUALS.
This teacher treats you like if you are gonna be a major in anthropology so if you are not going for that major then don't take this class cause if you do then u r gonna have a problem. She tries to help with extra credit but the essays for her are crucial and have to be really good for you to get good points. Don't take this class for your good.
the class is verrry hard, but if you pay attention you will learn something. Otherwise she is a very nice person, and if you show intrest in what she's teaching, you will learn.
I think you have to be really interested in the subject to get a good grade. Her teaching style is very borring and makes it difficult to pay attention. She offers extra credit, but even though I did it, I still ended up with a C.
Lets just say she has a bell!! And yes, she rings it to get your attention. She is VERY difficult, and one of the worst instructors I have ever taken, and I have taken a lot! You take her your essay to read it and you still don't do good. I ended up with a bad grade because she didn't really teach the material well.
fun and educational
her class is a bit hard if you dont read or take notes. if you are not intersested in anthroplogy dont take it. but she does help you out if you need it. she takes time to help you in and out of class. shes very helpful
SHe gives you these comment cards to fill out and i wrote about how she treats the class like we were a bunch of ten year olds. She actually told us that we werent smart enough to read past a 10th grade reading level. I didnt learn anything from her. I knew all the info in the class because of PBS. Watch PBS it will save you money!
She is full of lip service no real help. Takes pride in failing students and taking any of her classes will lower your GPA ask around I wish I had. Hybrid is the worst. WEB site and discussion boards are poorly developed which waste tons of time just getting to the info. Take anyone else
This woman is nuts! and this class is ridiculously hard! I wish i knew this information ahead of time because i would have never allowed myself into this black hole. She is so hard to understand she talks to everyone like we're archeologists. I'm telling you right now, save yourself a lot of stress and take someone else for this class.
How she has a smiley face is beyond me! She does not help at all! She hands out bad grades like she wont get paid if she doesn't. She treats you like you are in kindergarten-she even rings a bell! There is a lot to know, and it is NOT interesting. On top of lectures you have to read the book, or tests are a guaranteed F.
I don't remember if it was ANTHRO 3 or 4, something like that, but she was alright. Her lectures were kind of weak and you only need to textbooks for the worksheets. Her tests were difficult if you don't take notes and pay attention. She is a sweet lady and does give out extra credit.
I talk about how the class is like from the beginning of a chapter to a midterm. First, she'll lecture(which is pointless if you haven't read the whole chapter because you won't understand what she's talking about)or go through a powerpoint presentation(which is helpful)she does this every chapter until the midterm...
(continued from below)...She'll give you some study guides (one for each chapter) a week before the midterm. If you're lucky, you might pass the test. I've said my peace, now decide for yourself.
this class is a serious ball buster... but overall she's tough and there is so much material in this class to cover.. do not take if you want an easy A... take it if you really want to be one... I learned a lot i mean a lot.. take this class if you really want to pursue archaeology. will help in the deciding factor..
Tough teacher. A little picky, but if you can follow instructions you will be fine.
Good teacher, she really loves her work, and cares about the students progress. Listen up and follow directions! Dr. Lawlor runs a hard, class. A lot of homework, reading, and studying. I feel it was to hard for it being my elective class, but if your an anthro major, she is the one to take. keep up on the work, and ask for help, good luck. Matt
Fun class. Do all the extra credit available and it's an easy A if you do all your assignments. Lots of reading to keep up with but you can take online quizzes to study instead.
If you're not going to be an anth or arch major don't bother taking her. Her class is too hard. Take Mrs. Sharon. She much easier and a lot easier to speak with. She just an all around nicer person. I got a B in sharon's class and I didn't do the project.
Dr. Lawlor is a very nice lady who gives tons of opportunities for extra credit. The poem assignment is really annoying and I agree with others that she can tend to treat her students like a group of kindergarteners. Just do the quizzes from the textbook site and do the extra credit, and you'll get a decent grade. She does very good lectures!
Shes no walk in the park but comes across with tons of positive energy and simplifies everything. You like guess work take the clown they have teaching it at night. You can do a hell of alot worse, be on your toes - follow the guidelines - take advantage of the extra credit cause theres tons of it.
Dr. L is a helpful, caring, fair, witty, and brilliant prof. She is the no-nonsense type. I recommend this class to anyone who takes Archaeology seriously-not to those who just get a kick out of Discovery Channel or who just want 3 units... 3 exams 3-4 quizzes and weekly h.w. Lots of E.C.-If u follow instructions-u r guaranteed an A in the class.
She's hard but nice. She teaches you as if you are majoring in the area. Class sessions are fun, but she expects alot from her students. Homework assigned every other week or so. She keeps books on reserve @ the library. Her tests are pretty easy if you study a bit. You have to work pretty hard, but hey, it's college!
Take the online quiz and you will do fine on quizzes and test. The poem assign. is a drag but she is very helpful with that...if you need it. Tons of extra credit that you can do. Lectures are interesting and fun.
she is mean. doesnt care about students. and is super old fashion. LAWLOR NEEDS TO KICK ROCKS
The best, most organized, helpful person ever. After every class I feel an urge to hug her... but I fight it.
Professor Lawlor is extremely helpful and passionate about her area of expertise. Take the online quizzes, turn in homework on time, and do the extra credit and you're sure to pass the class. The first test is hard, but the rest are not. Final is multiple choice. In the end you will feel like you've learned a lot!
Fantastic!!
cool teacher but beware! she kicked 8 people out of her class because of "Cheating" she says we can share a book but if you do the work at the same time its condsidered cheating and you either take an f for the whole semester or you drop it, oh and if your work looks alike to another persons then your also cheating . . . even though you dont sit an
One of the most amazing teachers i have had. Makes class fun not boring. She gives a lot of help if you ask for it. Very understanding person.
this class requires you to really study. she's very passionate abt teaching and is willing to help. if you follow all her rules and make sure you complete all your assignments you'll probably manage to pull a B. i would only recommend this class if you're willing to put in the time.
Warning! if you want to pass you have to kiss her ass. Her class is easy if you do all the online quizes and HW. If she doesnt like you she'll nit pick your assignments like crazy. GOodluck. I wanted out the moment the class started.
She was a great teacher. I loved going to class, she made the class fun. If you didnt read she explains everything to the point where you understand. And quizzes and tests are easy.
This professor unfortunately seems to get confused as to whether she is teaching college or elementary school. She talks to her students like children, but grades like a graduate professor. It makes finding a rhythm impossible. Doing the homework is CRUCIAL, and tests and quizzes are worth a lot (too much) to your overall grade in the class.
2nd class I've taken with her and she's still super awesome. She gives you a list of exactly what is expected of you the first day of class, with due dates for every assignment. She has a website that explains how to get an A and is very helpful in office hours. I don't know what more could b expected of a teacher. Plus Anthro is awesome!
Way too much HW. The plus side is that you can use the guides during exams, but the downside is that there are way too much homework. I find myself spending more time on hw than reading and understanding the material. Her notes are not online and she goes too fast in class. Not recommended.
She's not very organized, it's hard to be prepared for her test, because she teaches her students like middle school kids, but exams are at a graduate level. HW is VITAL!!! Don't miss quizzes, don't miss class. Expect to put in a lot of time for a good grade.
Love her class! She really has a passion for anthropology. I took both ANTH 1 and 3 with her, and got A's easily. She gives a good amount of extra credit. The tests are easy if you take the online quizzes, and she lets you use your study guides also. She makes anthropology fun and interesting, totally recommend her!
very strict when it comes to grading take borella heard she's way easier going to class is a must you will find yourself with a C in the class and trust me you will be happy with that
Tests arent too hard but make sure u study the online quizzes and read. HW is easy. Gives 1 late pass. Final is tough so to secure your grade do the many extra credit assignments she gives. Overall, not too hard.
I really enjoyed her class!! Pros: not too much homework and gives lots of extra credit!! Cons: very strict about being on time and in class, tests can be a little tough! Overall she's a great teacher; knows her stuff! Doing the online quizzes really help in getting a good grade on the tests!
I took her in a previous semester and found her to very well prepared, interesting, and approachable. Teaching methods are varied and eefective. All-in-all one of the better, if not the best class in this field. Plenty of tools made available to assist in doing well on tests.
Professor Lawlor is an awesome professor. She's very nice and thorough with the course. I learned a lot in this class. Just pay attention and you will get your A. She provides study guides but they require you to read in order to answer and fill them out.
Amazing professor! If you don't understand, just visit her office hours. She is super helpful and her enthusiasm makes the class worthwhile. She is the best professor i've ever had. Thanks Lawlor!
Dr. Lawlor is a very sweet person. She's very strict. She expects all assignments due when she assigns them due, no exceptions. I can tell she loves what she does. I enjoyed her class.
Prof Lawlor obviously loves teaching and anthropology. She is pretty strict about turning homework in first thing as well as being on time for quizzes. As long as you pay attention and take good notes you should do fine!
I'm now a grad (bio-anth) student thanks to her strict expectations. If you want a real challenge take her. It will jump start your anth career.
First off, she is a sweet lady and really does offer a LOT of help for those who are willing to spend TONS of time on 1 class. Tests are HARD! Her class is extremely difficul she favors students and treats those struggling like poo. She yelled at me for no reason like I was in high school and at another girl, but only apologized to her and not me.
I love Archaeology and at first I thought, cool this professor is awesome, but after some time in her class I started to realize she does not really care about students, and she acts like everyone in the class is going to be an archaeologist, she really made me see this subject in a negative way, and P.S do not take her if you are religious.
Tests are pretty much all based on the book and they are difficult. Do not take her unless you can memorize the textbook because she asks really specific questions. Quizzes are also very difficult. She's willing to help but is very condescending about it.
Professor Lawlor is great! She made this class interesting, and you can tell she loves what she does by how she teaches. She's very helpful, and is willing to do what it takes to get you to understand. Tests can be challenging, but if you do the practice quizzes online, read the textbook, and take good notes in class, you should do fine. Take her.
Great instructor! The class is certainly not easy but it's not impossible so long as you keep up with the reading. She gives you tons of opportunities for e.c. and posts study guides for every exam on her page. She gets a lot of her exam questions straight from the practice quizzes online so if you do those you're golden.
First off the class subject to me was very interesting but as for Dr.Lawlor she really needs better ways of method she does not help very much in office hours and her test are crazy hard. She was mean to a couple students in class and I think she acts too stuck up for her profession, and she's also not very encouraging to ask questions in class.
honestly unless your on point with school and super passionate, like her, about Anthro, then good luck. her tests were impossible and she expects everyone to live, breathe, and study anthro 24/7
Lawlor is a great professor. If you are lazy then don't take her. I made sure I read the material and took her online quizzes and got an A. It's possible to get an A as long as you are serious about doing what is necessary. She offers a lot of extra credit as well. Take the lab, it helps out a lot.
Avoid her! She is a pain in the neck. Really nasty piece of work. Not flexible, and demands too much from her students. If you argue, raise concerns or anything of the sort, she deducts points from your grade. Do not take her.
This professor is very laid back and helpful. She gives tons of e.c. and even allows for late passes on assignments. If you don't do the reading, you will struggle. If you don't study the exam review/notes, you will struggle. Just do the work and don't treat this as an easy/blow off class. I got an A and I was only mildly interested in the subject.
Do not take her. Take ANTH 1with another teacher or Archaeology at another campus. Just please don`t take her, if you do you will regret it by the end of the semester. I`m being 100% honest here.
She's quite a mixed bag. Pros: Makes herself available for help, hands-on activities, lots of E.C., and passionate. Cons: a LOT of work, vague instructions on homework assignments (she marks you down for ridiculous things), and she treats you like you're in high school. Take her if you like Anthropology. If not, expect a loooot of work.
If you are lazy don't take this class. If you like to make excuses for yourself don't take this class. There are homework assignments, quizzes, and tests, but there are a TON of resources available to help you get an A. She offers extra credit and genuinely loves the topic. Take her if you don't mind doing some work and paying attention in class.
I took her class spring of 2014 and she definitely cut out a lot of the work that she made prior classes do. She's very interesting and makes class lectures a lot less boring and actually sometimes fun! There are about 5 quizzes but DO the online quizzes and you'll get a 100% since all the questions come from them. And the tests aren't too bad.
pay attention in class. and study the online quizes i got D's on all of her exams, got low c's to d's on her quizes. and still managed to pull off a C in her class. i did about 80% of the brain rules homework. and the poem was simple enough. no need to buy the book if you know you wont study.just showing up to class everyday is 90% to passing.
I don't even know where to start lol. She is an okay professor. Exams are tough. Its a lot to remember and apply. She makes you do a lot of short answer questions, and I do mean a lot. Also don't raise your hand in class for whatever reason she gets really spazzy if you raise your hand. Like it interrupts her or something. Take notes on everything.
1010 Really engaging, lectures on virtually everything you're tested on. Respects beliefs of students and presents from a non-polarized stance. Always happy for revisions and corrections. Definite passion. Do not miss class. Incredible amount of data in lectures. A good deal of extra credit. Really available and clear on assignments.
I took both of her classes ANTH 1 & Anth 3 & honestly I love this woman. She expects a lot from her students, show up to class prepared (yes you have to read the book), do your homework, & be ready for very detailed quizzes & tests. She know her stuff and she expects you to do the work but if you don't understand she will bend over backward to help
She was nice the first couple classes but not so much after. Theres a lot of reading her exams are really hard with a lot of short answers. If she cant read your writing its -5 points. I didn't capitalize the first letter of my last name and took pointsoff so she'll take points off stupid crap. Material is hard to understand & a lot to keep up with
Not good at alll takes up alot of class time to talk about study habits and trying to teach how to study , but is totally irrelevent and she goes back on her word alot, one class she said we had a quiz on the second class of the week and instead gave it surprisingly on that monday Oh and p.s. study guide is totally not helpful for test
IF YOU ARE LAZY, DO NOT TAKE LAWLOR. She expects a ridiculous amount of work from her students. She acts like everybody is an anthro major and is expecting everybody to eat, sleep, and breathe her class. With how she acts and teaches, she should be teaching high school.
Worst proffesor ever very picky on every detail on assignments and exams
Was really easy. Did not need the book if you took Bio 1 or High School Biology it will be an easy A. She's really clear on homework and if you participate you basically have the class done. If you pay attention to her class quizzes should be easy. Everything on her powerpoint and on the board will be on her tests. Study Guide don't use it.
She is a nice professor, but her teaching method is tough and expects things to be perfect on homework. The exams are timed if not finished she will not let the student finish the test. A tough grader on almost everything.
she was too hard.. too much work, tests have essay questions. I would not take her again. her lectures are also boring. if you need this class take it with someone else. I failed her class and I put a lot of effort in it.
she ain't even that bad bro there's literally like 3 easy homework assignments, like 4 quizzes with 15 questions each, and like 3 exams. Pay attention and study before quizzes and tests and you'll be ight
Simply two words: Just No!
Hard teacher but a very nice, and understanding professor who is trying to get you ready fro the real world.
Not going to lie and say its the easiest class, but the material is very easy to learn and remember if you have interest in animals or biology. She gives many extra credit opportunities for just visiting seminars at other colleges and bumps up your test grade for improvement from test to test. Great teacher who truly cares about students learning.
This was one of the toughest classes I have ever taken. I hated it at first but what I learned academically and personally throughout this semester was worth it. If you are willing to work take her! But it's not an easy grade. She's a tough grader and very specific. In the end I ended up loving the class and her
She's a very tough grader and will fail an assignment if you have more then 3 grammatical errors. Not clear on her assignments and focus' on "good study habits" instead of class content. She once quizzed us on Machu Picchu THEN she lectured on Machu Picchu. Not sure how she expected us to pass that quiz. Save yourself the trouble. Don't take her.
Very sweet lady, but she is an extremely tough professor. She teaches this class as if you already have prior knowledge on the subject. She acts as if this is everyone's major. Exams are tough and smallest detail will give you an F. Study guides don't help at all.
She is passionate and cares for her students. Instructions are confusing though (homework/test questions), so it is crucial to ask her many questions. I rarely read the book, instead her lectures are a good way to pinpoint info for the tests and to also get understanding of concepts. Not the easiest class, but very interesting. Office hours help!
Honestly, dont take her. She treats everyone like children rather than adults. It seems like theres a new Class rule every day. Her exams are ridiculous for the level of class this is. Ive only done well because I have a lot of Bio classes behind me. Save yourself the headache and avoid her.
Honestly the worst professor Ive had at Mt sac. I have never had a professor who is so unwilling to work with their students. The material is interesting but she ruins it with all of her rules and blatant disregard for students who are struggling. Dont take her class.
Easy class, horrible proffesor. Anthropology is a great subject and this course material is not difficult to learn but Lawlor is terrible at teaching it and would rather focus on student conduct and study habits and note taking rather than the material. Super annoying.
Her lecture is really intersting, quizzes and tests are not as hard, if you prepared. And there are a lots of extra credits and bonus points. Most importantly, she has that very funny and cute personality and super caring.
Lawlor is a very caring professor. However, if youre not willing to work hard and show up to every class, dont take this class. She makes you work for it. And sure, her rules can be annoying, but just go with it.
Class was easy and had fun labs, but the grading is tough for exams. For tests, you got to read book and lecture. She provides several extra credit opportunities. The fault I would say is that she tends to fall behind in the syllabus, but she still tells you if you have a quiz/tests on time. She also makes the exams difficult so study up overtime.
One class discussion a week worth credit and student responses are hidden to ensure you read the material and she will heavily grade your reply One quiz a week with unlimited tries, easy just keep trying Exams. Goodluck. Every exam score in the class put together averaged out to a 57% and no one ever got a perfect score on any exam. Not worth it.
The key to this class is to do ALL of the extra credit and to take the unlimited quizzes over and over until you get a perfect score. She is critical when it comes to punctuation. Follow the study guides to pass and complete the module. She is always available which is nice however get ready to WORK.
Professor Lawlor is very passionate about Anthropology but If this is your first time taking this class, do not take this professor. Her lectures are very thorough but all of the assignments are graded HARSHLY. Tests are mostly based on her lectures. The only saving grace to pass this class was the amount of extra credit she gave. Good Luck.
One of the toughest classes I've taken, but worth it. Genuinely inspired me about the world of Anthro. Lawlor is a tough prof and you will not coast to a good grade, but she wants you to succeed and will always make time to help you understand concepts. Her humor and meticulously planned out modules really made this class a joy. Great professor!
She really knows her stuff which is appreciated. Her lectures are detailed and she has no problem answering any student's questions. There are multiple extra credit opportunities and ways to improve your exam scores. Tests are mainly based on lectures, but going through the study guide helps a lot. I've taken her twice and I don't regret it.
Lawlor is a helpful teacher. Although she is strict, she cares about her students. During office hours, she is very caring. She is very humorous and cute. If you study hard, you will benefit a lot. She also provides extra credit so that I can improve my grade. My overall grade is 187.64%, but I think it is a bug.
She is a very passionate professor. She is very friendly and approachable. Grading-wise she is super tough and you will not pass if you do not try to understand the material or the concepts of her lectures. She is not an easy A but you do learn a lot.
Lawlor is an amazing woman. Passionate about the subject and offer a lot of support to her students. However, she is TOUGH. If you cant handle her subject or the way she grades, she is not sympathetic. No open note tests, she closes all of her modules the day before she makes the tests available. Very hard class, be prepared to work.
Do not take her if you are looking for an easy class. This class requires so much time. I respect her love and dedication for the subject but it wasn't for me.
Prof. Lawlor is helpful and attentive to her students. She is actively online and makes us all aware of her presence and/or absence. Her class is HARD. You have to really think things through, and you can't just easily guess the correct answer for her quizzes and exams. She is honest though, and she expects the same. I had to drop this class.
Professor Lawlor and I started the semester with a disagreement, however, her humility kindness, and intellect were so disarming that it was impossible for me to allow the problem to resonate throughout the semester. She is kind and eager to help and all you need to do is ask questions and she will go above and beyond.
She was a tough grader and would have slow replies to emails. The class is exam heavy and have plenty of projects.
Professor Lawlor's ANTH1 class is challenging but rewarding. She's tough but fair, and her passion for the subject is infectious. While the workload is heavy, using resources like Unstuck ai alongside the textbook can really help. Overall, an engaging class worth taking.
