Great prof. She always tries to make sure we understand what is being taught. Always available and responds to emails immediately. Easy A if you do all the work.
overall, great prof. Letures are clear and midterms are solely based off of what was taught in class. Exam was a little bit harder but if you can do the practice exam you should have no problem. Lectures are clear and she makes calculus as easy as it can be.
Amazing. Her lectures were always super clear and easy to understand, and the exams were the same type of questions as the homework and DGD questions. Super nice and approachable too.
Great prof. Clearest math teacher I've ever had. Keeps her courseweb up to date and is super approachable.
Awesome prof
Take her if you can. She is new but she knows whats she is doing. She was always prepared and took the extra mile with her AMAZING notes! She has a clear great passion for math. She is always available with her office hours and never minds explaining concepts again if you don't understand. Her writing is great and makes good analogies!
Best prof I ever had. Has clear expectations of her students. She tailors her class to fit everyone's needs even if it means more work for herself, she is very willing and has fun doing so.
Go to class and you will do well! Full of energy and speaks well.
Always prepared and has the whole course planned out. Gives practice tests and thorough solutions.
Can't get any better for a new professor!
love her.
Amazing prof, best math teacher i've ever had hands down. Super clear and engaging lectures.
She seems very passionate about mathematics and seems like she genuinely has a fun time teaching. She has a beautiful smile
If I had optional 6 am classes everyday of the week with her, I would show up to every single one of them. Best prof/teacher I have ever had in my life.
Amazing teacher. Very passionate about helping you do well.
Awesome
Amazing prof
Elizabeth Maltais made me love calculus, she is simply the best. Her enthusiasm and care for the students is clearly evident and she always has a smile on her face. Simply the best prof at uottawa.
Shes a very energetic and sweet prof. She took weeks to answer an email. She speaks very fast. The material is not organized so get ready to spend a lot of time in one useless example and learn a theorem in minutes.
Amazing prof, she could make Youtube Calc tutorials and it'll be 100% times better than KhanAcademy's. The wasteman below me is probably salty cause he failed, I don't know what he's talking about when he says her material isn't organized. Her notes are amazingly neat and detailed and the diagrams often have cute little doodles as well.
Man two comments below me is crazy. Prof. Maltais is by far the best prof I've had so far at uOttawa. She answered all my emails in less than one day, and is very clear and concise in her lectures. Gives tons of examples during class to make sure you understand. Amazing prof. Calculus is a hard subject but she helped make it not so bad.
The closest thing to being the goddess of math
Love her. Easily my favourite prof this semester. Super accessible outside of class. So patient and friendly. All her lectures were incredibly organized, she went over lots of examples. If you ever have the chance take one of her classes.
Don't buy the textbook its a waste of money, gives really great examples in class and tests were very similar to those. Posts notes online attendance not mandatory.
She's just so beautiful and good at teaching. I think I'm in love or something.
Midterms are okay but the exam is tough. The prof is not the best at explaining things.
She is such an energetic professor. Literally the goddess of math. Calc is a tough subject, but as long as you take notes and attend DGDs you will be fine. Test is similar to textbook. Also she is beautiful :))
Honestly, love her. She took things slow and did plenty of examples, so the concepts were easy to understand. Her exams reflected was was learned in class. She's super friendly, organized, and easily approachable. She made calculus bearable, would defs take again :)
Explains all concepts extremely well and is willing to answer any questions after class. Undoubtedly, the best prof I had in the first year.
Great prof
Awesome prof! Would highly reccomend. Her notes are excellent (she usually has them online in a fill in the blank format so you can print them out and just follow along in class which rocks cause you know you wont be missing any notes come exam time). She is also really knowledgeable and is super enthusiastic about the material.
Very good prof. Very knowledgeable about the content, speaks and explains concepts clearly. Only downsides is that I found the exams a bit harder than the problems presented in class, also sometimes she speaks too fast. But I'd take her again for another course.
She is an overall good professor. Her lectures are very fast paced but her one on one is very useful. Her online notes are the best because they are detailed and easy to follow. Her assignments were not bad but her midterms were difficult to a certain level, final as well.
She is the best. Super passionate, lectures notes are amazing. Always available outside of class and is super approachable. Her only downside is she doesnt teach any upper year classes. I wish I could have her for every class...
She is one of the best profs. I wish I could have her teach all of my classes.
She's awesome, she really cares about her students and takes it upon herself if the class does poorly on the examinations. Her lectures are pretty helpful and she goes into detail making sure everyone understands what happens. If you have the chance to take Calculus with her it'll be a good time.
Awesome professor. Im sitting in class right now and felt the need to give her a thumbs up. Only thing I dont like is her reliance on expensive textbooks.
complicates concepts and gets you really confused. Her tests are also much harder than anything ever covered in class, lectures are super boring but her notes are all online and are super helpful. She is also really nice
Dr. Maltais is the best. She often makes funny but subtle puns in class. Her 1-on-1s are extremely useful so go to office hours! Her notes are amazing and she is super sweet! To the people saying exams were harder, she isnt the one writing the exams. Its head of math department. Profs submit what they did in class and the main man writes tests.
The best professor I've ever had! Her notes are amazing! She's pretty cute and enthusiastic, also responsible. She replies emails very fast and her office hour is really helpful. Definitely will take her class again!
Loved her so much! She's adorable and really cares about her students. The midterms were a breeze as long as you did practice questions (I recommend the DGD workbook!) but exam was randomly very difficult (apparently it's written by the department so beware of that), I went into the exam with a 98 and came out of the class with an A...
Prof. Maltais is amazing. She is super nice, sweet and cute. Extremely helpful in office hours and has the best lectures! She is super energetic and passionate when giving lectures. She loves math and her energy makes you live it too! Definitely recommend her. Be careful for midterms and finals of first year classes. Math Department writes them!
Simply the best math professor ever. Lovely, caring, funny, passionate and enthusiastic. She is super approachable in office hours and really wants you to succeed. If you do the practice problem she posts and attend her lovely lectures the class will be an easy A+. I hope she teaches upper year classes!
She Is very enthusiastic and explains very well the course. She is passionate and transmits that passion to us very effortlessly, and beautifully. She is always available for questions and will explain little by little if you have a problem with any exercise. She's lovely :)
She wore a graph dress on the first day and I fell in love :'). SOooo sweet and caring and literally the best math prof out there. She is young and therefore isn't tired yet and super excited about the teaching the simplest math concepts. Provides AMAZING notes, if math is something you're okay at - easy A. Also has billions of practice problems
This lady was born to be a teacher.
Her lectures are great and she encourages participation so if you follow along your life will be easier. She knows her stuff and she is very enthusiastic teaching her class. She is the best prof i have ever had. Her notes are amazing and easy to follow. Just do the work and she will give your great mark.
An amazing prof. Just read the notes she posts on brightspace and do the homework questions to prepare for the tests.
Im in 3rd year elg taking discrete with her and honestly, she is the best prof you will ever have. Amazing lectures and notes. Very caring, friendly and approachable. She is passionate about her job, is amazing 1 on 1 at office hours and super lovely. Its sad that she is a first year prof. We need people like her in upper years. Simply the best
Very excellent prof who loves her job and is very good at teaching. Easy to approach for office hours and does her best to help you succeed. I wish more profs were like her.
One of the few profs you will encounter who genuinely cares about the students and seems to like teaching. Her lectures are great, she is approachable for help, and has stellar notes that she posts on Brightspace. Do the required readings and problems and you will do well in this class.
Elisabeth Maltais is an incredible teacher. Her notes are amazing and she makes such a difficult course tolerable. If she wouldn't have been my teacher for this course, I would have probably dropped it by now. I would always choose her to be my Math teacher if I could. She's the best teacher I had so far.
She is super nice and makes herself accessible for extra help in both her office hours and when she works in the math help centre.
Maltais was an amazing first year calc prof! I highly suggest her for anyone that has to take MAT1330. She genuinely likes her job and it shows through her lectures. Midterms are very similar to previous midterms that she provides to the students. The final was also fair and she has opportunities to boost your mark.
She is an amazing calculus teacher! She posts an outline of the lecture on Brightspace before class and a filled lecture note after class. HER NOTES ARE AMAZING! She is organized and explains material well. Her midterms were very fair and almost similar to past midterms. The final was okay/fair. Take her class if you can, you won't regret it.
Prof Maltais was great. MAT1362 was by far the hardest course I've ever taken and without her amazing notes and effective teaching I definitely would've failed. Be warned: if you have her with this class make sure to always be up to date on the latest material otherwise you WILL fail the weekly quizzes.
The lectures consist of learning the concept and then she shows you various ways to apply them in practice problems. Completed notes and practice problems are posted online after lectures and Khan Academy can teach you the same concepts if you miss class. Exams have no surprise questions or anything you aren't ready for.
Great prof! I didn't go to all the classes so didn't get perfect, but probably the best calc prof you can get.
She's grading scheme is TOUGH!! For computation questions, even if you did right for all processes but only one number was wrong, you gonna lose almost all marks!!!!
This course started off easy but got harder after the midterm. Her notes are very neat and organized. Midterms and finals were fairly similar to past years.
Definitely take classes with her if you can. Very organized professor which is extremely helpful. Explains thing clearly and the material is not difficult. Exams and assignments were exactly what was taught in the course. Overall excellent.
Prof Maltais is an excellent lecturer, and is always available for questions outside of class. She provides clear answers for questions. Problem was no practice midterm/finals, and so the exams were kind of out in left field. The grading of the exams was also tough, taking marks off for small mistakes. Overall, a great prof, but get ready to work.
disclaimer: this was taught online via zoom due to covid. prof maltais is an absolute angel. she is super patient and teaches via her ipad on zoom which is comparable to a chalkboard. assignments&exams are a bit tricky so you have to do the work for it. but she's always available and happy to answer questions. i hope god blesses her forever!
Amazing professor! She was excellent at adapting to online courses (due to covid), her lecture notes are extremely clear and detailed, and she is super friendly. Her tests were easy if you studied, and she is very flexible with the final grading. Would definitely take a class with her again.
Professor Maltais reminded me of some of my favourite and best high school math teachers. She presents material with written steps and elaborate examples. Suggested examples are a lot but they're never mandatory. Maltais' course was well organized, especially with the spontaneous problems associated with online teaching.
Absolute legend of a prof, my computer kicked me out of brightspace during the final exam and instead of giving me a zero, she reopened it for me! Best professor I've had!
Maltais is so awesome. Her lectures are clear, but sometimes you have to review her notes on your own since she doesn't always cover everything during the lecture period. Shes also super nice and adapted to online learning well. The tests are usually easier than the homework assignment so just do the homework and you should be fine
Really one of the best profs I've had till now. Makes the course actually alive and entertaining, while also being very good at explaining. Though the explanation may be slow at times, her notes are easy to read and the course requirements are well explained.
You definitely need to put in the work for this course; do as many practice questions as possible, especially from the textbook. The midterms and exam were both easy compared to the homework questions. Maltais is a real gem though and made this course 200% more tolerable; her notes are amazing. I would definitely take courses with her again.
Prof Maltais is the best prof I've had so far at uOttawa. Explains concepts clearly, prepares us well for midterms and finals, clearly cares about her students, answers emails, and the best part: her notes. Her colour-coded notes are written clearly and have relevant examples. My friends in other sections were always asking for her notes lol.
Very good professor. Assignments can be hard but you have 15 attempts per problem. If you redo assignments before midterms and final, you will get an easy A or better. Material is not difficult. Provides many solutions to problems that will appear on tests and videos of her solving problems. Has very nice dog as well.
Prof Maltais is an angel sent from the heavens to teach us Calculus. Explains everything incredibly well, and has god-like notes. Mobius is garbage and annoying, make sure to read and format your answers carefully. Calculus is tough, but she makes it bearable. Go over lectures/notes and PRACTICE MIDTERMS/EXAMS and textbook Qs, and you'll be fine.
She is by far the best prof I have had. Every time I talk to someone taking calc2 next semester, I beg them to take it with her. She uploads extra videos for examples not talked about in class and will always help you if you need it. I heard other professors were using her notes to teach their class (cause they're godly).
Ms. Maltais is a queen. She's extremely nice and she is always willing to answer questions. She teaches the content well and she definitely knows what she's talking about. She posts her completed notes which is really great in case you missed something. Her test aren't very hard if you study and you've usually seen something similar to the question
Great Prof. Homework was harder than tests. The best a calculus class can possibly get.
Literally the best professor in the math department at uOttawa, she is a nice and genuine person who will prepare you for every midterm, quiz, and final exam. If she is an option, take the course!
Great lecturer, great notes, very nice in general. 2 midterms and final exam are worth 80% of your grade. Accessible outside of class. Excellent DGDs. Ideal prof for first year calc courses.
Honestly the best math teacher ever. The most detailed notes and the clearest explanations. Switch to be in her class if you can.
Prof Maltais is a real gem. She teaches in such a clear way and is always happy to clarify questions/confusions. The class material is computational heavy so you have to be quick with your calculations otherwise you will struggle during the tests/exam. So practice and be quick with computations and understand the concepts and you'll do great.
This character limit is not enough for me to describe how good Prof Maltais is. She explains things so clearly. She makes math so fun. She has FIB notes. She's extremely nice and kind. She takes care to answer everyone's questions. The whole time I'm in her class I'm smiling. The tests are not extra challenging and you won't see anything new there.
Excellent teacher with patience. Elizabeth explains everything clearly in class and is always willing to answer questions. Her classes are well organized. The course itself is a bit hard, so remember to try the exercise for each chapter and attend the office hour to ask questions.
Shes the best teacher ever! As soon as I saw she was teaching MAT1322 I enrolled so fast. She has amazing notes, posts extra resources (notes/videos), difficulty of tests match homework and past tests she posts. She makes the lectures super super fun, shes super chill and good teacher and person. If you can take her class!!!
lectures are good and enough for assignments. but knowledge learned in class are not enough to complete the quiz or midterm or final. Her mid and final questions are definitely harder than the daily practice, and some of them seem unsolvable.
Seems very kind but then throws a 4x7 matrix on the final exam. Do not trust this woman's "kindness" upon first sight. Good luck and remember to never judge a book by its cover.
Prof. Maltais is very kind and her lectures are always amazing. Her tests are not too difficult content wise, but are very time-constrained and required rushing towards the end. Go to DGDs, and only do the textbook questions if you have time. Calc 2 is difficult due to the large amount of topics it covers, but if you work hard you'll be fine.
One of the best professors a student can ask for especially coming into first year. Truly cares that each student does well and is more than happy to take time out of her busy schedule to help you if you are willing to seek out the help. She also has some of the most beautiful notes that I have ever seen. Amazing professor through and through!
I've taken two courses with Dr. Maltais now, and she is an incredible professor. Her midterms/exams are always a little more challenging than the practice material provided, however they are still very fair. I feel like I gained a lot of knowledge from this course, and it is truly thanks to the professor. Thank you Dr Maltais; you are amazing!!
she has the best lecture notes! very clear and the weekly assignements keeps you on track. good and kind teacher!
Maltais' reputation speaks for itself. Just an incredible lecturer. The course feels like a well oiled machine, nothing at all went wrong in this course, which I don't think I've seen people appreciate. Grading is super fair, lecture notes are extremely organized and well put together. This is the professor you want to have.
Amazing professor
This professor doesn't reply to her emails, the exercises done in class are nothing compared to what's on the exam. She may seem kind on the outside, but on the inside, she's a different person. Being "pretty" doesn't make you a good prof, answering emails in a timely manner and preparing students for exams is what a good prof is!
Best proff ever! lectures were easy to follow and understand, and she makes calculus feel way less intimidating. no complaints would definitely take again.
Good teacher, can properly explain everything. She's good
This couse will make you question whether you really want to be a math major, great prof though. Go to office hours or ask questions in class for sure in order to succeed. Solve many exercises in the textbook as well as on prof. Savage's website to prepare yourself for the exams, they are very hard if you are not used to proving math propositions.
Professor Elizabeth is the best math teacher i've ever had. She provides AMAZING class notes that are printable and leave space for you to fill in. The class isn't easy, but that is just because its calculus, her teaching style is great though, be prepared to do lots of homework in order to get a good grade!
One of the best professors I've had at the university. This is my second time taking a course with her. She explains things so clearly. She has very good notes. Very flexible with assignment deadlines and gives hints to assignment questions during DGDs. Linear algebra is a very hard course, but Maltais made me enjoy. Would take again!
Amazing professor. Clear, reasonable and kind. As long if you're willing to put in the work (as a student should) and do a bunch of practice questions (duh) and REALLY understand the material (through practice of course), easy A+. I wish she could be my professor for all my math classes.
She really cares about students and she is a great prof. I understood everything but her exams are harder than the assignments, so you have to be prepared.
Maltais is a truly amazing prof. She really cares about her students and puts in the time to make sure we are getting what we need from her. Her notes are fantastic and she goes out of her way to explain concepts in a way that makes sense. She is also SO KIND, like an amazing person. If you can get her for calc 1 or 2, definitely do it.
Even though I got a low mark, it was not because of her teaching. If I could retake the course, I would have done more exercises out of class and studied more overall. She explains well, answers questions coherently and performs examples in a way that is easy to follow and replicate.
I only failed this class because of the required 40% on the final so be sure you HEAVILY prepare as it's harder than you think. It's not her fault as she gives great lectures and thoroughly explains important concepts. She creates beautiful fillable notes and posts her version after class if you miss something. Would love to have her again!
Amazing lectures and amazing notes. Very accessible and helpful outside class.
Great prof. Great and easy explanations at lectures. I didn't take enough time to study due to time management issues which made the class harder for me but if you prepare and spend time on the class there's no reason not to do well. 10/10 recommend Professor Maltais.
Professor Elizabeth is really kind, sweet, approachable, and of course she teaches well. Very patient with "dumb questions". Her class is really hard but, she has tricks and tips on how to do some equations and I think that is really good. The only downside I have is, it's a morning class :((
she explains things really thoroughly and clearly, her notes are very helpful, she is very nice about answering questions... i love her she is so silly and whimsical
Amazing professor. Her notes are the best, and she posts filled notes and videos on brightspace. Tests covered exactly the same material in class. If you do all the homework (and understand it), you shouldn't struggle on the midterms. The questions chosen on the midterms are a lot easier than most homework problems in the textbook.
Always reading the notes, never get deep in the definitions and how they work. just post all the notes on brightspace and go learn it by yourself later. Never gonna take again, i don't need a professor to read the words on the note for me, i have eyes and i read can read english.
Awesome prof, great in lectures, exams relate to the homework nothing bad to say overall.
If you take linear algebra she will give you the hardest multiple choice ever for the midterms, but the final is easy and if you do well on it she will weigh it as 100%.
Maltais is an amazing professor who truly cares about her students. Her lectures are fantastic, with clear explanations and beautiful notes. While the content can be challenging, using resources like unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can really help. Definitely take her if you get the chance!
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. Explains math concepts very well. Lecture notes were comprehensive and easy to follow.
Many students loved her, but I thought she was just ok. During class, it felt like she forgot that she was teaching an introductory level course and would spend 20 minutes on a proof that was above our understanding. The practice problems for the second midterm didn't prepare you at all for the exam, but the final was quite a bit easier.
She is the best professor! Very clear lecture notes, you can just study her notes and then do the practice exams then you can do well in the exams. I really wish I could take her course 1322...
It's a little bit abstract, but her notes are very clear. If I took more time for this course, I think maybe I can do better. In conclusion, no one will regret for taking her courses. Hope I can take her courses again after her maternity leave.
An amazing math professor, her lecture notes are well-organized and make sense. She's very nice as a person as well.
Very professional. Good, clear notes given to students, very helpful for studying. Condensed explanations. Non mandatory attendance. Difficult course.
Whatever uOtttawa is paying her, it's not enough - her notes are a currency. Exam topics are pretty spread out and does require you to know what you're doing. The lec are great because she doesn't skim over, unlike other profs. She gives you lots of resources to choose from and has regular office hours - it does get busy, so plan to wait.
If you get her class, or get another prof who uses her notes to teach the class, you're set.
