easy if you actually come to class everyday and listen. midterms consist of memorizing some images and notes taken during lectures. very boring for people uninterested in art.
easy as long as you go to class, and take notes. Not much reading involved. She's also a really nice lady =)
prof. mjelde is very inspiring
Admittedly she is a good teacher, but be prepared to work, attend class(regularly), and do projects. Not A Breeze Class.
She's good, but she talks alot. WAY tooo much writing on her tests. You have to write alot, But then again it's just art pictures, so it was eazy!
MS.Mjelde is such a talkative person. she detailize about each picture she shows. But it sure is an easy A class if you keep track of notes she gives and some descriptions about pictures. midterms are formed of 10 answering questions and 2 topics of essay
Ms. Mjelde is an awesome teacher. She really has the ability to pass her passion of art on to her students. The 3 exams in class aren't all that difficult and term paper is easy to follow and interesting to do.
She is a great teacher. She does talk alot, so it can be boring sometimes. You have to write 1 paper, but everything is mostly your own opinion, so that is easy. The midterms and final is just memorizing slides & 2 essays (Ques. are giving the day before)
VERY VERY NICE TEACHER. She really helps you in finals/assignments. Easy grader as long as you do put in effort. I hate art myself.. but it's not a hard class at all. NOTE: It's not a studio class..~! only art history
She is a great teacher. She is very informative. You should definately take notes. She does go through things pretty quick. As long as you pay attention and take notes you should do good.
can barely hear her voice, easy to sleep in her class, kind of bitter, but besides dat juss take notes n u'll get a good grade
This is art history, by definition it is a boring class. However, she's very informative and clear on what is going to be on tests. Make flash cards and study. It's straight memorization. If you're good at memorizing, you'll at least get a B.
Very nice professor, but talks an awful lot... pretty much nonstop. But if you listen to her then you have no excuse to not get a good grade... because she covers EVERYTHING you need to know over and over again. Take her class, it's fun but not easy.
Cool, but grouchy when u get on her nerve just for once!!
She is a real nice teacher with whom u can interact very nicely and is always willing to help u and to get u through with the best grade possible! I strongly recommend her and if one studies properly in her class, getting a good grade is not a tough job!
So stupid, very boring class talks about 1 slide for a week. She gives a rediculous amout of work for such a dumb class.
she's extremely rude and cancells class the day BIG assignments are due
She's very nice. But I agree that she talks wayy too much! She over talks about anything, wether it be art or her life. She has a very quiet voice, and can make you feel sleepy. But overall, very easy, just study and memorize, essays are easy, just write,!
Super nice teacher, very involved in her lectures. Interesting class, if you pay attention and do the work shouldn't have any problems.
She knew what she was talking about, had great slides with every lecture. I enjoyed the class very much.
i enjoyed this class. she assigns homework but you can finish it fairly quickly. the tests compose of questions from notes that we take in class (which isn't really a lot) and two essay questions, but you prepare in class. and shes a nice teacher!
If you like the history aspect more of "art history" she's the teacher to take. I much prefer more art-orientated discussions and viewing more pieces. Very strict and specific regarding exam essays and questions, lots of memorization.
I enjoyed so much her class. She has been the best teacher that I had in this last two years.
why are there so many good ratings... THEE worst and hardest art history teacher on campus!! take anyone besides her!! makes a class that's supposed to be fun and chill, way harder than it needs to be.. tests on tiny details she randomly mumbles ONCE..
Not too sure what to say. Memorize every important word and possible vocabulary term for the tests. If need be, you can cheat easily like some did. Use tiny sheet of paper, write on desk, etc. Kind of boring, kind of interesting. Overall easy class/teachr
This professor inspired me to change my major to Art History. She's very well spoken and is very good at lecturing in an interesting way. She's very clear about what she expects from you on a test and exactly what slide IDs--as long as you pay attention i
Had her for 2b and came back for 2c. She is very clear in what she wants on exams and explains art in its historical context. Very popular with art majors. If you want easy tests and lots of slides without explanation, try Rushing.
Tests are straightforward except for short answer section. She asks questions about things we only talked about for 10 minutes. Talks A LOT. She loves the sound of her own voice. Not good at hiding who her favorites are.
she usually gives 3 big tests and assigns random hw. i didn't do very well on the tests but did ok on the hw. for the tests i got a c a b and a b. but i ended up with a high a in the class for no reason. just take good notes and study your notes

She knows what shes talking about. Just semi-take notes & be there for the reviews. It's not totally easy, but average.
lots of movie...i like it
She is pretty easy. If you come to class and writes down the basics her tests are easy. She gives an analysis paper so if you do well on that and the tests you can get an A easily. I stopped coming to class a lot at the end of the quarter and still got an A because of the analysis paper.
Her class was okay, its good to have a bunch of friends in it, but the class is okay not bad, but she is too much in her work she'll snap at you for little reasons....CARVAGIO!!! HAHAHA
She spends to much time on text analysis history papers rather then actually showing slides of art work. I was really interested in taking the class at the begining, but she's an ok teacher who really didn't keep me interested. She puts random stuff on the tests.
REALLY knows her stuff-this was a very informative class. She gives you the test essay questions well before the test so you can prepare, and writes all the notes you'll need on the overhead. Just do the work & copy the notes and you should Ace the class. She also gives an extra credit assignment.
mixing things
Her tests are easy, but I don't like her teaching style. She spends to much time on text analysis which can be boring. I was really interested in renaissance before her class, but her lectures were boring and uninteresting. She needs to find a new teaching style.
She's informative and knows art history very well. She tends to get moody at times but is overall helpful. The best art history professor in DeAnza if you want to learn (with a social perspective), but definitely not the easiest.
Superb! I've taken classes with all the art history teachers on campus (it's my major) and she is the most well-spoken and intelligent. She really brings out the magic in the work, while also contextualizing it and giving formal analysis. Just the ideal teacher. She should teach at a university.
The good: The class is very easy if you attend all meetings, that way you have sufficient amount of notes for exams. She does offer extra credit. The bad: She comes to class late every day, gives no breaks (sometimes gives a 1-2 minute break but rarely), and keeps students past the end of class. She has no sense of tie and she gets very moody often
she is very nice and passionate about the subject. however I dislike her selection of material -- comes off as left leaning, brain washing social politics.
She is very nice and extremely helpful. She explains herself very thoroughly and she really wants you to pass. She is very soft spoken and understanding. She gave us an extra credit worth almost 1/3 of our grade. her tests are easy if you go to class. just watch and listen. You dont have to even take lots of notes but she does get you thinking. The
Great teacher. Interresting lectures. Canceled some classes and can get steamy. She's totally worth it.
lovley woman. soft spoken, and very smart. the class was worthwile and interesting. i wasn't a fan of the groupwork, but that was that's my only complaint.
Elizabeth is awesome. She is so understanding and really looks out for her students. Her class is great, I loved the material, and she encourages using your imagination as a way of perceiving things. She is a wonderful teacher!
She was pretty laid-back. The material is pretty interesting, and her lactures are very clear and detailed. But her voice is very soft so it's hard to stay awake on hot afternoons.
Her class was very good. She showed us many different phots and short videos that related to what we were doing in class. She was very laid back and easy to talk to. If you have a problem she is willing to work with you. Her homework was easy, although the tests are a bit harder. In this class we did have to go on a field trip ourselves to an art museum.
One of the most interesting classes I've taken so far. Teacher is most helpful and very clear. Subject matter engaging but tests can be a little difficult. Take copius notes for this one...you'll need em.
Great class if you let yourself get fully engaged. Take good notes and you will get an A.
Easy, Its like almost instuling how easy her class was. Attend, listen, A, just like that. It would take a lot of effort and fustration to Fail, cuz there is no way that one can get anything lower than a C.
its easy but boaring at times. But did i mention its easy? Cuz it is. In order to get anything lower than a B, You must strive super hard to do so. Even if your the worst student in the world, you can still pull of at least a B
she was very clear and easy. Make sure you attend all the classes and take good notes. Shes extremely thorough and nice. Enjoyed this class very much.
Well, this class is a must, for art lovers. It created a deeper insight for me, and I am a socalled artist. I was the only guy in a class with about 20+ females, but it was a bigger plus. She presents the material very unbiased. Tests were easy, unless u do not show up to class often. Extra credit was a bonus, cuz I knew I was getting an A. Pure fu
Very easy class, just attend and take notes. The tests are consist of short answers and essays but are super easy.
She's amazing! :) Her classes require a lot of dedication (a lot of memorizing, reading, note-taking, essay writing) but the experience is truly worth it. Take her classes if you really want to enjoy learning about art history! You'll never look at paintings the same way; your appreciation of art will grow!
Taking this class was a very positive experience for me. Mjelde loves to share her knowledge of the arts and is extremely well educated. Her lectures are crammed with info, but she doesn't bore. She's compassionate, easy to understand, obviously loves to teach, and is always available for Q's or help with assignments. Highly recommended.
SHE IS AMAZING. SERIOUSLY. she's one of those teachers who makes you want to change your major after taking their class. You can see her passsion for what she does through her lecture. Her lecture is not boring neither. The way she does assignments and tests are reasonable where if you do pay attention and study you will get A. It's not HARD to g
The only bad thing I can say about Mjelde is that she dress like a slob. Otherwise, she is brilliant! Every class is super interessting and presented in an unbiased way. Be prepared for the urge to change your major. Yeah, she's that good!
Very helpful, she cares about her students and makes herself available to you... BUT, her tests are hard unless you are in class EVERY day and take very copious notes. She also wanders off subject a whole lot and takes lectures into the realm of women's rights half the time... then hypes up her women in art class. Nice that she is excited about that, but also not exactly what this class is supposed to be about.
This class isn't for everyone. Great class survey class, but tendency for moodiness. Just a warning.
She is really easy if you take good notes. The short answer questions on the tests are all from your notes. There is no textbook to carry around, just a packet. As long as you use good evdidence to support your answers, you will do fine on the tests, which is basically what her class consists of. 3 tests, one term paper.
Good teaching style. Need to take EXCELLENT notes. Does lack etiquette at times. Decent and fair grading policy.
Take Pasturel. Mjelde tends to go on power trips and treat students like elementary school kids. Not very nice. She has a tendency to look at art from a feminist point of view, which isn't entirely relevant. Easy A class though, if you can fight through it.
Her class is really interesting. working from books and original text. If you attend class and take notes you'll do great. Her grading are very fare and she is always available for students, helpful and supportive.
Her class is easy if you attend all of it and write down notes. However, the hard part of the class is staying awake. I have her at 8:30 am and god damn it's sooo boring. She's quite moody also.
Her tests are easy if you come to class every day and take notes. The subject is relatively interesting and she does a good job presenting it. You can achieve an A as long as you memorize your notes and the paintings.
although she seems nice, she is very superficial. class is easy, she is boring, if you have her in the morning.. GOOD LUCK. Staying awake was the hardest part of that class for me. if you fall alseep, she'll just repeat this story of her "past experience" about a student over and over... OMG... im sure there are many other teachers to pick from
A really fantastic art history prof. She doesn't make you spend a fortune on the dept-approved AH text. She really knows what she is talking about. I found the class fascinating. The only minus is that she doesn't really encourage classroom discussion and participation. She treats class like a monologue for herself. But you will learn a lot.
She is extremely boring; she repeats the same info many times like we're stupid. She drags her sentences on and on; lecture is really dry. If you miss a day, don't worry b/c she'll always repeat info from the previous day's lecture. Progress in the class is slow.
I have had taken all of my art history classes, arts 2b, arts 2c and arts 3tc with this professor and I must say that it is because of Elizabeth Mjelde that I had decided to have an art history major. Shes passionate about art and she likes to share it. She is NOT boring, people who think that are not appreciative of what she does, therefor shouldn

Shes passionate about art and she likes to share it. She is NOT boring, people who think that are not appreciative of what she does.Shes very helpful to her students. She is my inspiration!
By far the sweetest teacher ive had at De Anza. She's very passionate about the subject and she's more than happy to help you out if you don't understand the subject. I honestly fall asleep during some of her lectures but i just ask her for help when things dont make sense to me. And she helps. Take her!
Her class comprises of 2 midterms, 1 final(it's not cumulative), 1 analysis paper, and she offers extra credit. The class was easy for me, but I must warn you she is very moody & redundant. She'll keep us in 5 mins. at time & when you ask her a question after class she'll say that you are wasting her time if she thinks it's a stupid question.
Bad class to have when you're tired b/c she will put you to sleep. Yes her class is easy, but she can be rude at times. When a student asked her to repeat something she said or spell a word (she crams her letter together so it's hard to read)she gets frustrated and responds very rudely. take pasturel instead. easy A but waste of time & money.
She needs to rethink her profession as a teacher. She cannot teach to save a life. By far the worst GE teacher I've had at De Anza. She constantly talks down to students as previously mentioned; there is no level of respect from her whatsoever. If she reads this, I hope she will take this criticism and change for herself and her students.
I took 2 of her classes and I was very pleased. She sets her classes up at a reasonable pace and she doesn't overload her students with useless info. She also clearly informs her students of what will be on the tests. I would definitely recommend her.-If for some reason she is rude, like people are saying. They probably did something to deserve it.
Yes, she is very easy but her teaching style is not that great. She talks to you like you're 5. Sometimes she overexplains things and defines the stupidest words. Her classes are usually 2 midterms, a final, and a museum paper. She's pretty moody often as well. Take Pasturel, Cadge-Moore, or Karmi instead.
I have a feeling the previous negative comments are from students who have issues with EVERY teacher. I've taken 2 classes with Mjelde and she has never been moody or rude, unless dealing with people who can't shut up personal conversations during lectures. Take her class, it is worth it.
I have taken two classes with her. She is a bit easy if you study a little and pay attention in class. Her lectures may sometimes bore you due to her over explaining the subject. Overall, she is a helpful teacher.
She is a very sweet teacher. Completely understanding and is willing to help you out at any cost. The exams are easy if you pay attention and study. I really enjoy the class its really interesting. She has a 1 term paper and 2 exams. Easy A!
I would be lying if I said this was a difficult class. But it's so God-awful that it makes you dread coming to class as if it were. If you plan on doing anything during class that doesn't involve staring attentively at her, she'll probably call you out on it. Material is easy, but if you want a COLLEGE course, this isn't for you.
Boring lecturer but friendly and fair. I think her class is quite challenging because it requires a lot of analyzing of art in excessive ways and you need decent writing skill. I wrote masterful essays and only got an A- on them. Strange.
Her class can get really boring, and she is a very friendly person. There is no textbook, just a couple of handouts. All in all, fairly easy class, just boring at times.
She is really nice! Class may be boring b/c you just look at slides in the dark and take notes the whole time! Tests are easy (10-15 short answers & she reviews the answers the day before the test; 2 in class essays which she gives out the prompt a month ahead of test. However you do have to go to museum on your own. Overall easy A and great prof!
I've taken several classes with her and they've all been interesting (as long as you are already interested in art). She wants you to pay attention, so if you ARE doing something else STOP IT, this IS college and you can text and chat AFTER class. Pay attention and you'll do fine.
People who say this isn't a COLLEGE course is just wrong.Honestly, teachers just give guideline to get you started on certain topic. She covers 70% of different perspectives and 30% is yours to read privately and learn the history. Turn in the Analysis essay early and she will give you rewrite opportunity to get the grade you want. She is just grea
She is a very nice lady and extremely helpful. If you go to her personally she will do anything to accommodate you and your needs. I really enjoyed her class and will be taking more classes with her. Highly recommend her!
love her
One of the nicest Prof you will come across. She has the ability to reach out to all students and is extremely helpful. She will help the student in any way possible. Take her and you will not be sorry. She is a LADY thru and thru.Love her!
One of the nicest Prof I have ever come across. She is very helpful provided you ask for help. She doesn't make you buy the book as they can be very expensive. She understands that students are on a limited budget and tries to help in every possible way.Tests are super easy if you study. She will give you special attention if you go to her office.A1
Very nice and willing to help outside of class. Only problem I had was that she's very slow (prob. for the sake of some students). Otherwise great teacher, but b/c of aforementioned repetitiveness can be boring at times. Attendance is a must (unless you have a pal in the class)!
First off, put away your cell phone; it is rude and she will embarrass you by taking it away. She is a kind lady and does an exceptional job teaching the material. Go to class and take notes. Her tests are pretty easy.
I still can't believe how incredibly nice she is. Yet a warning for all you trouble makers.. she's nice but she's no pushover. I liked her, but not her class. It was pretty boring in my opinion.
Great, great, great teacher. To all who criticize, I guess that explains why you're at the community college and not at Stanford. If you take education seriously, she is a wonderful teacher. Almost 10 years later, I still appreciate her teachings. She has such a beautiful, thoughtful way of looking at art and sharing that with her students.
Very nice teacher but will not be lax in student disruption or misbehavior. Most material used is straight from the lecture so don't miss class! No textbook either! Test not too hard either as it is from notes/lecture. Biggest challenge is the final essay. Use a lot of examples from the lecture in your essay if you want an A!I liked this class!!!
On her midterm and final are short answer questions and you have to answer one of the three essay questions . She assigned a six page essay about two paintings from the art museum in downtown San Jose. She will assign a few writing assignments for he. She offers extra credit which will really help your grade.
She was absolutely lovely. I really enjoyed her for Intro to Visual Arts. She is a very kind and empathetic person. But don't be late or disruptive in class, that should go with out saying for any class though... She doesn't assign a lot of out of class work other than the term paper. No text book, so you gotta show up to lecture :)
She is a kind and enjoyable teacher! I learned a lot from her! Basically, everyday was looking at slide shows of artwork and taking notes, but the class was still interesting. Textbook aren't needed but it means you must go to class daily to write notes for you to study for the tests. Her tests are very easy if you take the time to study.
Mjelde is perhaps the most passionate art teacher I have taken thus far at De Anza. She is very kind, helpful & understanding. The way she lectures really helps you understand the subject and it encourages you to participate in class. No books required; we used primary source documents and slides. I highly recommend this class & this instructor.
Really easy A class. Take it whether you're interested in art or not. Her lectures are like hearing a PBS channel talk about the intricacies of art.
Prof. Mjelde is a rare kind of teacher. Rarely will you find a professor so engaged and truly interested in their craft as Prof. Mjelde is. She is a fantastic teacher, and her lectures are captivating, encompassing all the details that you would expect an art historian would cover. Not taking this class would be a shame as there's too much to miss.
She is a wonderful teacher! So passionate and knowledgeable about her work, and also a very kind lady! Her lectures are wonderful to listen to if you have an interest in art. In general the class is quite easy, you must take good notes! Only had 4 homework assignments in the class and no textbook required. I highly recommend her classes!
Her lectures can be a little boring, but she's super kind and understanding. No textbook. 4 homework assignments, 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 analysis paper, plus extra credit. Attendance isn't mandatory, but everything's based on lecture so take good notes. I would definitely recommend her!
She give low grades to the exam and the paper.I got B- in my analysis paper and C+ in my mid-term which I had spent weeks to finish and study .
Easy class only if you take good notes. Notes are not hard to take, just stay awake and listen to what she has to say about the artwork (you can use her ideas and write it in your essay + homework) better notes you take, the easier the class is for you. The tests require you to memorize 12 works of art (date/artist/year/medium) and essay+short ans
She is such a sweet teacher and she's super passionate about what she talks about so it definitely make it easier to listen. She doesn't give homework often and when she does, she is very lenient about it. Take GOOD notes. (And study them!) It'll be the only way you'll do well on assignments, the midterm and the final.
Best teacher in my life, she is being so nice and helpful in the class. I met with her during her office hours, willing to discuss the final/midterm with me and providing lots of useful notes. Take her class if you love art history!
Class was very simple,2 exams & a paper. Exams aren't hard, but you WILL have to know names and basic info from the reader and topics covered in the class. She gives extra credit that is super simple and is SO understanding re: late work. Only thing is this was the most boring class ever. Low lights and her soft voice put me right to sleep.
She's the sweetest lady I've met, but her tests are horrible. There is one 8 page essay and midterm + final exam. She goes very in depth with her questions and there are in class essays along with the exams. Not good for easy A.
high expectations for such a low totem pole class no outlined syllabus of what is going to be covered each day lectures the entire 2hrs rarely engaging with class too soft spoken tests are way too in depth for a beginner the notes are not user friendly very mixed mashed too much writing emphasis not helpful or understanding, will not take again!
if you attend every single class, you WILL PASS AND RECEIVE AN A. 1 midterm 1 final 1 paper. take good notes in class and read the reader (a package) and you WILL be fine! both midterm and final are based on the reader and class notes. She is very clear and helpful. Show effort.
How much was i into the class! though i'm not an art major, i was overall saturated with the class, ART. If you have poor writing skills, better make sure you proofread for assignment paper. of In-class essay, make it logical with lecture notes. I got an A on mid term, assignment A-, and it was PNP lol. you know what i mean? you never know.
Elizabeth is a great teacher. She may have her boring moments, but just chew on some gums during her class and I'm sure you'll stay awake throughout! Bring book or laptop where you can write consecutively throughout the quarter, do not misplace notes taken in class because it is very useful for the paper(40%) and the midfinals(30% each).
YOU do not want to take this class if you do not care about art. I do not know how a professor could talk about a single painting for the whole class period. Remember this class is art history, unless you are an art major this class will put you to sleep. BTW she will make you go to a museum .
-very tempting to skip or sleep in class bc its so early in the morning (DONT do it) -You NEED the reader and daily attendance to take notes to pass (she changes dates too) -you need to go to museum for the paper -shes nice.... but too nice. made me kinda irritated at times. you know what i mean?
Great teacher and passionate about art. She does well describing each work of art which you will need to know for your midterm and final. It may be boring at times if you are not an art major. Make sure to study hard for the midterm and finals then you should be fine.
She is nice but tough teacher
Seriously, this class is not for me because I dont feel excited in history of art, I just take it for my major. Believe me, she is not that easy, guys. The class is boring and makes me wanna fall asleep many times. Not many test but you have to try your best in each exam. you have to go to art museum to do 8 pages for analysis paper.
in brief: -an 8 page paper where you have to go to museum -barely any hw besides that -class is boring af (bring laptop or do other hw) -take notes when she changes pwp slide -easy A -study for tests, grade is based off 30%midterm 40%museum paper and 30%final - easy Extra Credit opportunity
She is very sweet, understanding, and relaxing. The room is dark and when she starts to speak, it can put you to sleep. I took this class because I thought it would help my major but it doesn't. It was easy, but wouldn't take again. Must get a binder. One graded test, one final. Both short essay and around 10 multiple choice. One real essay. No hw
Her class is super boring and she requires you to read a lot. If you are not into art then this is not the class for you. You are also required to visit a museum in order to be able to write this long and pointless essay. She does not pay for your ticket to get in nor does she cover your parking.
ARTS3TC/WMST3C: I took the class for credit, but fully enjoyed the course. I was never interested in art until I began to learn about art history. Elizabeth is the kindest professor that I have ever met which makes the class very welcoming. I always wanted to participate. I will definitely take another course with Elizabeth very soon.
If you were interested in art , you can choose her , she is so mean . You have to write 8 pages essay and 4 pages final paper.
tough grader and horribly boring gives low grades on papers
Not sure why she has some bad reviews... this class is so easy. Just do all the work and look interested. I didn't think I'd like this class because I was never really into art. Now, I am fascinated by art. Very minimal amount of work and little to almost no reading. Take her! She's so passionate about what she lectures and is very understanding.
I took her Arts1A class online and she doesn't reply to emails from students! SO IRRESPONSIBLE!! and her midterm and finals are hard. do not take her!
She is very passionate about what she does and is such a sweet and respectful person to top it off. She will work with students and make sure everyone can do well on the tests and essays.
Very sweet and understanding professor who's passionate about art. However, this class is no cakewalk. The papers you write will be long and there's a ton of material to learn. Actually take notes for lectures as best as you can. Go to her office hours! I had nice conversations with her and received a ton of help on my essays by visiting. 4/5.
If you could spend a lot of time in this class for reading and focus on writing her papers, then take it. If you didn't prepare for a tedious class, avoid this class. This class is not a joke, make the decision carefully.
Literally, this class is so incredibly difficult. The point system is ridiculous and you end up only being graded on like 3 assignments. She does not seem to understand that this is meant to be an introductory class. She grades incredibly harshly. This was supposed to be my easy A and ended up causing me the most amount of stress.
I take her for an online class, and it was supposed to be my easiest class. This is an INTRODUCTORY ART class, yet she makes you write so many papers and do 3+ hours or more worth of weekly readings. If you like art, take it. If you don't, then don't take it. No offense, but a class like this shouldn't require you to write an 8 page essay.
I took Prof. Mjelde's online Arts 1A class. This class had clear guidelines and there was nothing unusual. She graded papers fairly and always let us know when our homework and essays were due. She also offers extra credit. Great professor!
1st - easy online class. She seems passionate in what she teaches as the only textbook she required was a book by her(free download). Moderate/heavy reading is required for assignments/quizzes. Most work consisted of analysing art. Provides feedback, but often took a little while to score work submitted. Offers a good amount of extra credit.
Professor Mjelde is such an amazing teacher who is extremely funny. She'll make you laugh every one of her lectures through her way of teaching and stories. The only way you can fail her class is you don't do the work or quizzes (which are easy). It's an easy A class. If you don't like her, then I wonder what's wrong with you, mentally.
Easy class and she is really nice. The book is not necessary if you watch the lectures. She tells you what is important to remember. Easy quizzes each week that are timed. Organized class, doesn't pile on a whole bunch of busy work and extra credit.
See how the past 10+ reviews were all written on 02/25 and are all PERFECT ratings? They were all written by her.
if you're not really into art her lectures become really boring really fast. there isn't any homework, but there are 3 papers (1 in class 2 take home) and those take a lot of time: one requires you to visit a museum. dreaded coming to class but it definitely could've been worse
She is a tough grader!!!!! The average score of this every paper or essay is only about 60%
Her online class was exhausting. Way too much reading, tons of tiny assignments that barely do anything for your grade, multiple lengthy papers with arbitrary word count/page reqs (one of which required a trip to a museum; that commute costs money), and her rubrics are vague/hard to meet. Avoid if you have other time commitments. Seriously.
More work than most GE classes. A small test every week, 2 page essay, an 8 page essay, a midterm and a final. It's not impossible, but harder than it has to be If youre stuck with her- take notes early on and dont get left behind Also, I think she wrote all of those reviews on 2/25 herself. I mean how would an online student think shes funny?
I wrote a bad review previously but now I'm deeper into the quarter and It's not so bad. Quizzes are hella easy and add up. You can just control f the answers for them in her online lectures. Just read the lectures she posts and you should be good for the essays too.
Her class is very easy and simple. Do the readings which arent that bad, powerpoints. Take notes, read a document answer questions, watch 2 videos answer questions, and do a reading answer questions. I know sounds like a lot but super easy and simple. Its not diffcult. Midterm paper which she lets you do a practice one before.
BE AWARE!!!!! the ten perfect scores that were written on 2/25 were obviously written by herself. She must have been pretty desperate to say "If you don't like her, then I wonder what's wrong with you, mentally." Class is boring, tests are not hard, not so heavy works.
This teacher gives way too much writing considering this is a GE. Shes nice and passionate but that's it.
This class is an absolute nightmare. Three essays and one warm up essay, one of which has a page requirement of 8 pages. This is utterly ridiculous for a class like this. That sort of requirement isnt even expected in my english classes. Other than that, weekly quizzes and discussions are easy. The only problem are the ridiculous essays. DONT TAKE.
Takes so much time to grade big assignments, to the point that by the final I had no idea what grade I had. Overall, way too much work, including an 8 pg essay that took over a month to receive our grades. Honestly, you should take another course if that fulfills your GE over this one.
Literally one of the most hardest G.E classes ever. Do not take . All the reviews are 100% accurate and Im disappointed I didnt read them before
She is good, her lecture videos and slides are clear but there is too much reading and you have to write essays for her midterm and Final, it's like a writing class which is something I don't like. The midterm essay messed up my grade bad and I did my best on the final essay to maintain my grade to a B.
This class requires a lot for a GE class. She takes forever to grade anything. By the time she finished grading the assignments from week 1, we were already on week 4. It was a lot of writing on top of a weekly discussion, quiz, and group analysis. A lot of papers including an 8 page analysis paper.
Online course consist of Writing Warm Up (3-4pgs), Midterm (8-9pgs), Analysis Paper (8pgs), Final (8-9pgs), Quizzes (multiple choice), and Discussions (20 mini paragraphs). Seems like a lot but lecture slides make writing easier. It does take a long time to receive feedback on grades but she does drop lowest quiz grade and gives extra credit.
Only grades you on about two assignments all quarter: the midterm and final essay. Lectures lack substance and are almost impossible to pay attention to. Can be very demanding and objective in her essay criteria. Also, fun fact: if you choose to even look at your phone during a lecture, she will make a scene and pull you out of class.
This class was a nightmare. I have taken many GE classes, and this by far is the wort of them all. She is very unclear regarding her grading policies. Does not teach well. I have to retake it again but it won't be with this teacher. Avoid her if you can. You won't regret it!
This class is easy relating to the discussions and quizzes, but when it comes to writing the essays and final exam, there are a lot of details that she won't tell you about and you will end up getting an F on them. I received scores of 100% on all of the quizzes and discussion posts, but because of the essays, it dropped my grade a lot.
You really do not need to overthink in this class. If you follow her rubric, you will automatically get an A. She will assign lengthy papers (it could range from 2 pages to 8 pages) which may seem a lot at first, but if you just reference all of the readings/videos she assigns to you, you will get the points. Boring, but super straightforward.
The quiz and discussion is easy, but you have to prepare for one warm-up paper, one midterm paper, one analysis paper, not final yet, don't know if there have a final paper or not. Each paper length is 2-8pages long, (whats she said is at long at possible), so many papers and gets ready to read!
I was fooled by the ranking on this page. To pass her class is really hard. She has 3 essay papers that are valued at 50% of your grade. The analysis paper is the hardest which required to submit a 6-8 page paper on art. And her grading rubric is very tough as well. Its a hard chance youll get anything above a B even if youre really into Art.
She does not reply emails. And just like what others said there's mid term, analysis, and finals are essays. The worst part is that she doesn't reply emails even though I've sent so many emails asking questions.
3 analytic papers throughout the quarter. She doesn't say the specific amount of words needed but if you wanna get decent grades, it's required to be at least 1500 words each. Each paper must have 6-12 comparations with six different artworks and six different studying materials. No exception, you follow or you're out. Good luck with heavy reading.
Tough essays, long readings and videos. Why are we writing so much just for an art class?
Honestly a majority of students in the class are taking her class out of credit and she expects us to write so much. We have an analysis paper where she wants us to write 6 pages on just 1 art piece. I have taken art classes in the past and never has there been this much writing. If you are not an art major spare yourself from this class.
She is a nice person just gives WAYYYYYYYY too much work!!! (for an art class)
class is really boring she also gives a lot of work
She is so hard and gives so much work. I don't understand why a visual arts class has to be graded this hard and has to have so many essays. I took this class because I thought it would be fun but every assignment is so long and hard to do. You have to write so much with such little information you can write about. Not a good class!
she is very understanding and helpful when needed. The work isnt hard either its just the essays can be a lot but the other work is easy
Professor Mjelde is a good professor overall. She'll help you if needed and is a generally easy grader. However, the class may or may not be for you: Art majors: this class is good for you. Lectures are in-depth and good content overall. If you are taking for GE: Skip it. Essay heavy and 2/3 discussions per week. Not worth it if you ask me.
as long as you do the reading the quiz is extremely easy. 90% of the quiz answer is on the reading, her discussion and essay do not require much word count but as long they fit the requirement.
I took this class fall 2021. The homework and weekly quizzes were so easy, literally just skim through the material because the quiz answers are so obvious within the videos/reading. She is so nice. There are like three major papers that you need to do. I wasn't able to finish the last paper yet she was still so understanding and dropped it.
This was an easy class but her lectures were very interesting. Even though the lectures were just slides, it was easy to read. Papers were so simple as long as you follow all the instructions you will probably get 100%. She is super flexible with students, understanding, and gives you extensions when you ask.
Three weekly assignments, two discussions and one quiz (these are easy & she grades easy), three essays (they fall around the same time), one essay is a midterm (no length requirement), one analysis paper (6-8 page requirement), one final essay (no length requirement). Not a bad class, just wish she spread out the essays more.
I took this class asynchronously. Super easy weekly work and a mini quiz every week. 3 papers with pretty clear directions that I followed and got 100%.
Very kind teacher, understanding of students, easy course material, overall great teacher and course.
She's an easy teacher, but I felt she didn't elaborate much on the contents. It felt like a waste of a class and her prompts for essays was annoying. We should be able to do our own research rather than be limited to her very already limited lectures that were ultimately too general. Contemporary art is so interesting but she taught it poorly.
Professor Mjelde's class has a very clear guideline and reply student's email very fast. Always teach you how to complete her assignments and get great grades!!
Professor Mjelde is very considerate and caring of her students needs, we were given regular breaks from the lectures, and plenty of opportunities to speak with the professor after class in person. Her demeanor was always kind and thoughtful. Her online classes are very straight-forward. The assignments and essays teach you helpful analysis skills.
The class material is interesting, but the workload is heavy. Utilizing resources like Unstuck study along with the textbook can help manage the essays and discussions. Overall, a decent course if you're prepared to put in the effort.
(F2024): The professor is lenient, gives half-time breaks, and is considerate of students' time. She takes responsibility for her mistakes and will give you an extra day to turn in your work. However, the lectures are boring and not necessary to pass the class but she does take attendance.
Elizabeth is so lenient and caring for her students! She wants you to pass the class, and her assignments are clearly and consistently formatted throughout the entire course. The workload is minimal if you actually read her syllabus — she shows you exactly what to do and what to look for!
Took her 2024 Fall Term. It was so easy, literally spent only 30 minutes a week, and for papers you just type and yap. Very easy teacher, would recommend.
love her! so sweet and kind. class and assignments are so easy. Participation doesn't really matter bcs the assignments are online and are easy A. would recommend 100000%
Her class was quite easy. Slides are straightforward and therefore quizzes based on slides are easy as well. She was a fine grader but did not give detailed feedback. This class has a lot of writing, but I feel as though it is doable.
