Great at lecturing but makes her tests unnecessarily hard.
Made coming to class fun and interesting. Inspired me to change majors
Funny Jokes, didnt cover all of the material in lecture. Rather hard tests
so funny, but tests are ridiculously hard and i didn't learn anything at lecture
No Comments
Great at teaching but test's question's are way to vauge and hard
She rambles a lot. Tests are hard and include questions along to lines of what whas i thinking at three o'clock tuesday. (maby not literally like that but just as perplexing)

Really enjoyed her Soc. of Murder class. 1 of the 2 req books was terrible and there was a whole test based on it, but the other 2 tests were simple. Makes things easy to remember, very funny.
VERY VERY VERY VERY HArd test that has nothing to do with her lectures!
Who is this lady? I fell asleep during the first day of class. Tries to tell pointless jokes. And you can hear her being out of breath. Dont take the class
Sometimes she can be funny but overall her stories can last forever and by the end of them she hasn't really made a decent point. I found her tests extremely difficult and her questions can have more than one correct answer!
Fun class to sit in- seems easy but tests arent what you would expect...
you just have to read the book and take notes in her class.keeping up with the book may be the hardest thing of all, but just do it and youll be fine.and there are practice quizzes on some site that she gives out.take them bc some are on the test.
Her classes are often humorous with anectodes that really don't go anywhere but still not too bad. Her tests are not that bad. I did not read two chapters that were on the test and just studied from the online guide and my notes and pulled nearly an A.
test were ridiculous. They had nothoing to do with the notes or book.U just knew it or not don't take her class
Her classes were BORING and the tests were IMPOSSIBLE!
Her lectures seem like they have no point and are about basic stupid ideas that don't help at all. Tests are pretty hard also. She doesn't seem like she cares about her students at all.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She is boring after about 15 minutes. Her tests are impossible no matter how hard you study. DROP NOW!!
NOt hard at all. Study the online quizes, read and listen in lecture and you'll do fine. I only put in what I have to and I got a very high B. Lectures are funny and interesting - just make sure you go to class as she gives pop quizes for attendance.
I dont like her. She's not funny. If I could, i'd say "Stop making jokes. This is my grade you're playing with."
She can be really funny sometimes. She may talk for longer than is necessary, but it helps that she gives real life situations in her class discussions. Her grad. asst. cuts class time when he is substituting for her.
Her classes are intereting, but mostly irrelevant. Test questions can be found on the website. Take the practice quizzes, and youll most likely get a solid B. Assignments suck! Grades are based on very little, no time for error!
worst teacher ever. her tests are ridiculous, with immpossible essays on every one. the books for the class suck, and the first test is on and entire one. if you can avoid this class, do it. unless they get a new professor.
She's incredibly laid back. So muc so that it's a waste of time to be in her class. During her slide presentations, she's always asking the audience questions and we end up going over 3 slides.
This is a really nifty class. THe professor is really nice and funny, though some people may not get her humor. Test were a little hard, make sure you study and DO THE READINGS. She does put essays on her exams so be aware, not a slack class.
The class is terrible. Her test are impossible no matter what you do. i studied for4hrs and got a 64. Drop the class itsucks
This teacher SUCKS! her lectures are completely irrelevant to her tests, going to class is a total waste of time, because she just tried to be cool and funny the whole time. She needs to take more time in teaching us. Making it her job that we knowmaterial
Tests are incredibly hard, but use the online tools and you will do ok. Papers are graded very tough. She gives short answer quizes for attendance (take them seriously cause they count for a lot). Good luck in her class
Nice lady, rambles a little but interesting. Show up for class, go to her office hours and do online quizzes and class will be cake. Tests are not bad and assignments are easy. Attendence policy/ grading sucks though.
She doesnt teach well at all. Rambles in class a lot, talking about nothing. blah blah blah...and then you take the test and its like WTF?
Shes very clear: to get an A you have to read the book, take practice online quizes, and go to class. The subject matter is simplistic so its just a matter of taking the time to do all those things. Boring subject matter and time consuming but VERY EASY.

Lectures directly from notes and usually doesn't finish slides before class ends. Doesn't mind people talking over her during lectures. Her assignments are very vague and she doesn't care to go out of her way to help students. She can be funny...
She is a fuuny lady who makes the class interesting. Her lectures most of the time are pretty good, not too boring. You gotta make sure you understand the theories and the different sociological perspectives. Knowing vocab wont get you very far.
She does ramble a lot but her class isn't hard. Take notes and know concepts. Don't focus on just vocabulary.
Her test are directly from the book, but she uses alot of questions about specific things in class, so you need to attend every one. She goes off on tangents which makes the time go by faster. She grades hard on the papers.
The class is tough no doubt about it. 2-5 hours of studying before a test will get you to JUST passing the class. You think you know, and then you take her tests, and do her papers, and then you get back your grade and your like "wow, this class suck
I hated this class, I hated the teacher, I hated my grade.
Good teacher. Lectures aren't too boring. Tests can be a little difficult. It's the papers you have to watch out for. She grades rediculously hard on them, and is not real clear on what you are supposed to be writing in the first place.
follow your gut on the first day and drop the class.
Not a good professor. This class requires a lot of work and it is difficult to judge what she is looking for. If you can take someone else, please do.
This lady is nuts! She will spend lecture talking about wild boar and then give you a crazy test! I got a decent grade, but that was only because I previously had sociology in highschool. She takes a Gen-Ed course and makes it rediculously difficult! Take another class if possible.
I am amazed by how this prof took a subject that is so inherently interesting and made it so painfully boring. She has the attitude and lack of energy/enthusiasm that makes me wish she was at retirement age. Simply awful!
she is probably the best professor i have had at ucf, and all of these other comments are crazy, take sociology of murder with her it was so interesting she has a great sense of humor and a great style of teaching, i recommend this class to everyone
I took her for sociology of murder and really enjoyed the class. She is witty and has a great sense of humor. I would totally take her again for other courses. Anyone who doesn’t like her is nuts!
She is nice, but her sense of humor is more high school than college. She goes off on tangents a lot. I think she should focus more on teaching than trying to make the class laugh. She is a nice lady though.
This woman got our midterms stolen. she had already graded our Mult. Choice portion, but not the essays. now she is saying that it will hurt your grade if you decide to re write the essay. We are getting screwed over for her mistakes. I dont understand this woman's logic.
She has a great sense of humor, actually keeps the class awake. Her tests are not that hard and she's always willing to help students with any problems they may have.
the class overall is not bad, easy way to make a good grade. always tries to make the class laugh and cracks these ridicilously silly jokes, that have no bearing on the course. Her tests are based on some course content and alot of the crap she talks in class. So you have to attend classes to do well on test. Take somebody else if you have a choic
It's a general class, so it can't get any easier. Sitting closer towards the front I think helps since she does talk a lot and that is what the test are mostly based off of. She's has a have funny personality, and always helps.
worst teacher ever! I could take a test on her life and get an A but the material is horrible. She never talks about the subject for very long because shes too busy relating it to her life. GET OUT OF THIS CLASS. i passed but that took a huge part of my life away since her tests are impossible! this class is only if u want to lower your GPA!
She is a really easy teacher! As long as you can find someone in class to copy notes from you dont even have to go! Just read the chapters and do the sociologynow work and you'll do fine on the tests. She spends most of the class relating things to real life so its really interesting! I highly recommend it! It's very easy!!!!
elizabeth mustaine has no fun personality, she tried to hard and makes these stale jokes, wastes so much time trying to be funny and her sarcasm stinks. Talks about herself alot and if you dont go class and take her notes, you will do horribly on her tests. Overall the class its passable because of the sociologynow material.
sure her jokes are amusing, but her tests aren't. you dont really have to go to class just try to get her pointless notes from someone. the tests are impossible but sociologynow is the best tool to study with. definately avoid this class at all costs.
This is an amazing class and an even more amazing teacher. Yes, her tests are challenging because you actually have to apply what you learn and not just spit out facts, but the material is fun and easy. Her lectures were a bit lenghty, but they prepare you for the tests.
This is teacher is iffy. During class she kept you interested, however the test were very difficult. I don't think I ever really fiqured out what to study. She is definatly not an easy class!
Lectures are a waste. She tries to hard to make the class interesting. Don't go to class, get the notes from someone, read the book, and study sociogynow and the class is easy. Reading and sociologynow are a must to do well. Difficult to know whats on the tests. Give yourself a few hours of studying.
Dr. Mustaine was pretty funny. Class wasn't torture to attend. The tests are kind of hard, but as long as you do SOciology Now and read the book, you should be fine. THe book isn't too terrible, sometimes it's redundant. Overall, not too bad, just alot of memorizing facts.
Dr. Mustaine is a great professor. She teaches the material in a non-brainnumbing way. It's not a fluff class, but if you actual WANT to learn, then it's a good class to take.
She makes class fun AND educational. Sit in the front row. Don't think her tests are difficult: use common sense. Do your homework and you'll be fine.
took it online, her class was extremely disorganized and when you turn in your papers she takes FOREVER to get you your grade. Her exams consist of an essay and mult. choice yet questions were never clear and neither were the papers.... I am a straight A student yet i have no idea how i did in this class i am hoping for at least a B.
She is really approachable but WAY TOO many textbooks. She is the fairest of graders and always available for extra help. Funny and causual so the class is a relaxing environment.
I LOVE HER! she's the funniest teacher ive ever had! her tests are kind of hard and the essays are hard. but her lectures are hilarious. i actually brought my boyfreind to her class because shes that funny.
My favorite professor I've had yet and I'm in my sophomore year. She's hilarious and keeps class casual and interactive. I do wish she was clearer about what to do with papers and whatnot and I'm not big on the essay exams, but she's a great professor and makes class fun. The only class I looked forward to attending!
This was an enjoyable class - professor has a subtle and somewhat dry sense of humor that fit well with a heavy subject (victimology). All in all, a good, relaxed atmosphere, a reasonable amount of work and no hassles. A few too many books, but no other issues.
Took Online. Organized. Got an A (uses +/- system), though still unsure of what I was supposed to take from the class. She is very helpful, friendly & willing to help students, but no summary notes of chapters-- and her grading rubric is inconsistent as some students do great on assignments when others are graded poorly for the same level of work.
Not a terrible class. I took it online during the summer and would not recommend it. You have to write two papers but both are based on movies. Not very clear about what she wants and expects ALOT for a summer class. Like everyone else has said, TESTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE!
Took class online over the summer. Got my first B ever in sociology; tests are indeed impossible no matter how hard you study. Material is interesting, but the class was SO MUCH work, and when you still don't do well on anything it's more than just a little frustrating.
I took her for an online course over the summer and I don't know if i ever saw a more disorganized instructor before. She couldn't figure out how to let us see our tests and people were missing grades and she couldn't figure out how to fix it. Her tests were really hard and not clear. I wouldn't recommend her. I ended with a B+ but a lot of work.
I have to agree with the previous posts! I took Dr. Mustaine's summer class and I believe she was on vacation the entire time! She was very hard to get in touch with and the material was tough and she offered little guidance. I don't think she is a bad professor but I do believe she had a bad semester. Tests are rough- be prepared to work hard!
I am so glad that I am not the only one who feels this way about her! I HATED Sociology of Murder! She STILL has not fixed my final exam grade and the class is now over so it doesn't matter anymore. Had a 4.0, but not anymore. Beware if grades are important to you.
She is really nice. Her lectures are kind-of pointless to attend. Her tests are basically just definitions from the book. I hardly ever go to class and jsut read the chapters that are going to be on the test. Its an easy class, as long as you study a little.
Great professor who held her students accountable for their learning. Often provoked the class (in a good way) with thoughtful questions to force us to expand our horizons and understanding.
Great class. Dr. Mustaine is hilarious and the subject is so interesting. The tests can be hard (study the book, watch the movies for essays). Class isn't mandatory but the notes aren't online. In the end she exempt several students from the final exam and awarded them with As for doing well in the class! Take this class!
Despite warnings on this site, I took her online summer class. I should have heeded the warnings. Everything you can think of from tests being beyond difficult (even with the books in front of you), from the professor telling us to quit our "bellyaching" despite complaints of test answers being marked as wrong, when in fact right. AVOID!!!
Very dissapointed!Amazed at her lack to help students. Tests are hard, and has a computer RANDOMLY pick questions which will mark you wrong even when you are right, webcourses froze during the exams so time was lost, then when you bring it up to her, she says your emails are a waste of time and to stop complaining. This class can def hurt your GPA!
Although this class was hard i did well i got an A- somehow i dont know how. But basically if you are thinking about taking her class definitly pay attention to the book. if taking sociology of law pay attention to how social science helped in the cases. Mostly she is fair but when taking the tests the webcourse thing kept frezing. just be prepared
I took this class during the Summer with 3 other online class to finish up my Bachelors in Criminal Justice. I recommend taking this class when you have ALOT of time to study and not when your trying to take 3 other online classes. The modules weren't that hard and the writing assignments are graded fairly. Tests are VERY hard, so study up.
Took her for an Honors seminar (Violence in Societies). Material was relatively interesting, lots of in-class discussions, but the papers were crazy. Take-home exams, 4-5 essays each exam, ~5 pages per essay. 2 of these plus a ~20 pg critical literature review. Otherwise, not a bad class.
Loved her class!I took Sociology of Murder Spring 2010. She was hillarious and very interesting! Didn't have to take final if you were ok with your grade so far! Lectures are fun and entertaining! ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER and would recommend her to everyone! I'm also not one to brag about a class!
There are two exams, a research paper and a presentation. Grades hard. Took forever to grade we only got one grade before finals and that it.
Took her for the Honors course in violence. She was laid back and funny, and I had a great time in her class, but we got off topic too often and she was not that clear about what was expected of us. Two exams, a final, and a presentation don't provide much room for trial and error either. Just expect to keep yourself on track for the most part.
WORST professor ever. Sure she is nice and can be funny but she talks in circles OFF TOPIC, provides information that is UTTERLY USELESS when its time to test and her tests are completely incomprehensible. If it's an open book test and the class average is still 55% on the MC section THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR TEST WRITING SKILLS!
Took Sociology of Law, She openly admitted that she had only taught the class online before. Her attempt at face to face instruction was a failure. Attending every lecture, reading the whole book and studying for hours still wont get you a decent grade on her confusing exams.
One of my worst professors ever. I am usually a straight A student, but could barely maintain a decent grade. Took sociology of Law, and not only would she not stay on topic, she could not pronounce any of the legal terms...yet was extremely picky on her tests. Questions extremely subjective too. She had no idea what was going on half the time.
DO NOT take this professor!!!! I am a law major/sociology minor and this has been my hardest class yet. She doesn't even know the difference between a legally binding holding and the sociological implications of a case. She merges them together in some odd hybrid. You have to "infer" every answer to her tests which are impossible to do in 50 min.
This was one of the best online courses I have taken. She clearly laid out her expectations the first week of class and they were dead on. If you read the chapters and participate in the discussions you will have no problem earning a good grade in this course. She actively participates in the discussions too, unlike other online courses.
the testing was unfair due to not explaining if the multiple choice was all the above or one choice. She never gave the grade you deserved either.
I took her for a social problems class online. Very easy, there were 2 papers, 12 quizzes, and 2 tests (each with a short answer portion). They were graded very generously. Had to post a discussion on each chapter but over all the class wasnt hard. She's interactive over discussions and email. Good professor!
I really do not understand why or how Dr. Mustaine has negative reviews. It's all crap. She has clear expectations. Show up, take notes, read the book & you'll pass the exams, just like any other class. There's an optional paper. She's also really funny & has a sarcastic sense of humor; I laugh all class long. She's very clear & helpful.
AWESOME! I loved her class. She is so funny and makes sure that the class understands what is being discussed. This was definitely my favorite class of the semester!
Her class is very difficult.I took Women in Law and Social Change.Being a feminist I expected to already have a grasp on all the issues that women have and continue to face but her class was still eye opening. If you're a hard-working student take her class. If you're anything like me you don't want an easy A,you want one you can be proud of.
The class Is not a terrible class. I got an A, but you are teaching yourself the whole time. I'm disappointed that I payed for some one to tell me what chapter to read and then test me. Don't bother reading the book either. The quiz answers are small facts scattered in the chapter, so no need to really understand any concepts or ideas.
As long as you read the book and show up to/pay attention in class, it's really not that bad. If you have an A by the time the final comes around, she'll just give you the A without having to take the final.
Unless you are immensely interested in the course, don't take her. Most unnecessarily difficult A I've ever earned as a 4.0 student. Exam questions are very difficult and picky. Only 3 exams to decide your grade. The only extra credit assignment is graded very harshly. She curves by very little. She's nice enough, but not worth taking.
She's funny and keeps the subject light, but her tests are not easy. A lot of nit-picky questions not covered in the study guide. She misses class often, does not respond online very promptly. The class is meant to "challenge" you, but really just makes it more difficult than it needs to be. Will not take her again.
She is more concerned with making the class laugh and telling stories about herself that she forgets to teach the lesson. I felt like I was going to a bad comedy show rather than a class. She showed movies and made the subject completely uninteresting. Her tests are really hard as well.
Professor Mustaine is a really nice and will help during the discussion, however, this class has a lot of reading and work. Her grading was confusing but I would not recommend taking her class with three other classes. Not enough time is given on her tests to be able to get answers right. like others have written very subjective exam.
Although I found her class hard because of the extensive reading, she is very understanding and nice. You will need to purchase a book for this course.
The teacher provides way too much reading for this class. If you have other more important classes that you have to take, or you are looking for a class that you are planning on taking as an elective, I do not recommend this class to you. Very nice, but harsh on grading and tests are not easy. Kind of wish I did not take this class at all.
