very hard
Mrs. Nava is a great teacher. It may be hard at times to take notes in class because she can be unorganized. She assigns long reading assignments. If you hate reading history books, don't take her. Her tests are multiple choice.
she's a great instructor. to pass the class you just gotta pay attention! i suggest taking 17B first, and then 17A because then she'll let you take essay exams (if you prefer them) in 17A rather than difficult multiple choice stuff.
she was a poor teacher. hard to understand and confusing. when grading essays, she would never give full extra, she'll take points off with no explanation.
no one should take this class unless you like to read. you need to be able to take notes quickly because she will not slow down for you. she will tell you that if you can't keep up with her then you shouldn't be in her class..
She is okay I guess... She does talk really fast and it is hard to keep up with her lecture! She also has favorites in the class, so if she likes you, then you will probably pass the class... she also likes people who suck up! I don't like the class
if you like essay exam then this the class for you. her essay exam are very easy, i took her for 17a and 17b. i dont have the patience for school and she kept my interest.
i took professor nava for 17B and it was a breeze. some people complains that she lectures fast, but thats because they don't know how to take notes :o). her class includes 3 essay and a final. she drops one of ur lowest grade. pay attention and u'll pass
She turns History into Feminism 101. She is a 60's flower child radical and pushes her agenda.
Dood this is like one of the greatest teachers alive. Don't get me wrong, its not an easy class, not recommended for slackers lookin for an easy A. It's hard work but so rewarding if you succeed. She's motivational. and hey its worth it if ur serious
she is a feminist flower child with her own strange agenda. she assigned a lot of reading. i never read anything. she takes points off of essays for no reason at all. put a big effort into final project and you pass. speak up and ask Qs in class
She teaches about the history of herself more than US history.
shes easy only when you focus
She kinda sucks. she talks toooo fast, grades like an idiot and only learns your name if you whipe her ass. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE
I really enjoyed this class eventhough there was a lot of reading. Her lessons were entertaining, and kept my attention. I think that overall this is a really good class where you are able to learn a lot, and if you do the reading you can easily attain a good grade.
Most students think she is hard but really it's all about reading the book then you are set. Her tests are both multiple choice and essay and her esays ? is mostly in her lecture so take note too.
She's a great teacher. Lectures were great, all you need to do is read and than you'll pass. Wonderful teacher!
I think she is a good teacher. Her lectures are good but sometimes it is hard to take notes because she talks fast. The essay tests are rather easy.
she is soo interesting and funny, but she does talk too fast and her lectures are too fast to keep up. but if you read, you will be fine. she is a very interesting teacher though, very good.
Nava is my favorite teacher, ever! I hated history before I took her class. If your better at taking essay test rather then mult. choose. Take her for 1B first.
oh god i hated this ****!!!! uneventful lectures. times dates chronological order treaties and documents but not real details! talks fast! tests are pretty hard b/c she wants u to regurgitate what she said basically and she talks to fast anyway. i dropped her. not recommended
SHE IS AFUNNY TEACHER AND MAKES THIS CLASS INTRESTING. HER 17A CLASS IS HARDER, ONCE YOU GET TO 17B ITS A MUCH EASIER,BECUASE SHE LETS YOU DO SERVICE LEARNING.
She's demanding, but even as long as you put some effort into her class, you should do fine. I'd reccomend her to any serious college student, with one caveat: if you are hardcore conservative, don't take her class. she is very far to the left, and it's hard to keep your mouth shut if you disagree.
MRS NAVA IS VERY HARD. SHE MAKES YOU REMEMBER EVERYTHING ABOUT HISTORY AND THE TESTS ARE HARD. ALSO VERY BORING FILMS AND SHE TALKS REALLY FAST AND RARELY WRITES MUCH ON THE BOARD N WRITES MESSY IF SHE EVER DOES. TRY TO TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR UNLESS U WANT A REAL CHALLENGE
Ms. Nava is an amazing teacher that makes you look at the world differently and more clearly.Take her 17B before A,she makes it easier on you. Her class is easy if you take notes and do the reading, which is not that much work.I like that she focuses on minorities and women..the working class.
VERY HARD NOT & EASY "A" BORING. LONG LECTURES MESSY WRITTING LONG NOTES ALOT OF READING ALL ESSAY EXAMS + ESSAY FINAL NOT ALOT OF EXTRA CREDIT SHE DOES SEEM TO EMFICISE ON MINORITIES & WOMEN STRUGGLES WHICH IS COOL. DURING LECTURES. AVOID TAKING HER @ ALL COSTS!
I recommend you take HER 17B b4 her 17A (you may get special treatment). But overall I thought she was AWESOME!! I BARELY passed History in H.S. and A-ed her two classes. I didnt really even need the text bk, I A-ed her tests JUST with her notes! If you are a good note-taker, she's NO problem!
i'm sure the class would have been better if i had known to take history 17b first. but i didn't because i didn't think it would make a difference, apparently NOT FOR HER CLASS. if you take her class, bring a recorder because she talks too fast. at least she goes by her syllabus.
She is really good at what she teachers. This class, however, requires a lot of reading.
She talked really fast, but it wasn't bad if you were paying attention. Tests are mostly based on notes. She's really wierd. A few of us thought she might be schizo.
I found it a realy hard class. I had to read the chapter and take extensive notes on the book to pass. The lecture usually didnt help for the tests. i just recommend keeping up on the reading and u should pass. should be easy for those who've takin 17b b/c she lets u do essays instead of multiple choice/short essays and gives the topic in advance.
I LOVE HER SO MUCH...BUT TRUTH BE TOLD SHE IS TOUGH BUT YOU LEARN! JUST READ ALL THE MATERIALS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES!!! STUDY STUDY ....SHE'S A GREAT TEACHER THO...SHE'S REAL!
I took 17A before B and it didn't make a difference. Got an A in both classes. I showed up everyday, always took notes, and did all the extra credit. It is a very good idea to build a relationship with her in the beginning, i think she was easier on me because i always let her know what was going on or how i felt.
Take notes and do all the extra credit it'll be an easy "A". Though, you should try to have some sort of friendship with her and make sure to tell her whats going on with you like stuff that may change your grade like being late for an exam cuz you were sick like really sick or family stuff she was very understanding with me so don't be scured...

Nava, very difficult subject, but good teacher...she makes you care about the natives, and actually feel sorry for them ;-)

she's weird but i like her teaching style, she never sugarcoated history's actrocities
one of the best teachers on campus very passionate i learned a lot
She talks fast and grades a little hard, but you really learn a lot in her class. Just show up everyday and take notes. reading helps too, but as long as you follow her study guides, you'll do fine.

if you read the book you can follow the lecture without writting anything...the test are all from the lectures...so paY ATTENTION IN CLASS. she is an awesome teachet.
Well ya doesn't matter what kind is it...if it is nava..still with he same alien brain..anyways....ya if you like to study , take this class. but some ppl say that she talks fast..well she does..wtf...take a voice recorder ..if you do that...and put it next to you before you go to bed...you'll pass, so ya...THAT'S BETTER THAN TAKING NOTES..JUST MEMO IT...THAT'S ALL .. WELL YA ...HAVE A WONDER NIGHTMARE..HEHE..JK
freaking retarded teacher. claims all republicans are idiots and demands for you to agree with her views. gets really mad when you question her heritage and people claiming she knows everything and that the students are ignorant. horrible worthless teacher.
Ms Nava is an amazing teacher. She talks fast, but take notes.Go and talk to her if you have any questions.Take 17 B before A.It is so much easier. The people who dont like her are red necked republicans that dont like powerful and brilliant women. She is progressive minded and focuses on the minorities not the christian white man.

MS. NAVA WAS SO FULL OF PASSION THAT SHE KEPT ME HANGIN OFF THE EDGE OF MY SEAT!! I ENJOYED HER CLASS IMMENSELY AND I CAN'T WAIT TO TAKE 17B. SHE WASN'T TOO HARD AS LONG AS YOU WORKED AND WAS ALL FOR INCENTIVES. SHE EVEN TRIED TO GET US OUT OF TAKING A FINAL (GOD BLESS HER SOUL) SHE'S ONE OF THOSE CHARACTERS YOU CAN'T HELP BUT REMEMBER
Mrs.Nava is a awesome teacher, I love taking her class. Besides psych. This is the first class i have liked taking in college. She really keeps you interested so you understand. I havent even read, but because shes teaches so well, and effectively I have recieved a 88% and 82% on my first 2 tests. And for those of you saying she pushes her view
very good lectures
Nava is a very nice lady. but she doesn't teach history as it happened... she teaches the social aspects of history... so if that is your thing than take her. Personally, it is not for me. I am a history major so I like to know EXACTLY what happened... ie dates, etc. unfortunately she does not teach that way.
The class was intresting and we never had a dull moment whatsoever. As long as your decdicated to her class you will have no trouble.
Very interesting class.. Great teacher! I never enjoyed history lectures, however, Mrs. Nava made it fun. Essays are sort of easy. Just take good notes, you'll do fine.
Mrs. Nava's history is interesting w/ less of the nonsense (dates, stats, etc) to remember. She talks FAST tho, you better be writing 20+ WPM if you want to get everything she said! I found her test are hard, too many sources to study from, and too many extra work to be done (2 extra book to read on top of the textbook) Bust my ass to get an A!
Best teacher you could ever have....You will leave her class with a better understanding of life
Very interesting and fun teacher. A lot of reading is required. She likes it when students incorporate quotes from extra reading materials. Very nice and cares about her students. Easy grader, just don't miss class and you'll be fine. Likes to teach history eras or periods at a time but not by years.
She is a very nice instructor. I took History 17 A&B with her. Don't be so nervous when you have to write the essays. They are not difficult as you imagine. She is also a good instructor for those who are not good at English because she knows how to listen to you. Hence, if you want to take the class with her, go ahead. Just working, you will get A
Professor Nava is a really kind hearted and good natured individual. She cares about her students and she has very strong political views. Her exams were not that hard and as long as you read the texts you will do fine. I recommend her to anyone wanting to take History 17B.
Mrs. Nava is a very nice teacher. As long as you do the reading before class, you will do fine. Make sure that you attend class every single day cos all the lectures are important. It really helps on the exams. You better writte fast if you're gonna take her class.
I highly recommend her. She is great. The only thing I say you should to when taking her A and B classes is to take the B first if you can write essays. By doing that, you can write essays in her A class. As far as I know, the multiple choice is pretty hard. Well, I took the multiple on the final and got an A, but that was me Always do the reading
Fun class! I HIGHLY recomend buying a digital recorder, because she talks really fast on her lectures! And for her essay exams, you have to "think outside the box" and include important figures. If she says the same thing twice, you know that it will be on the exam. Just read the book she assigns (Esp. the book by TAKAKI!)...and you'll do fine!
MRS. NAVA IS A WONDERFUL TEACHER. YOU WILL LEARN A LOT IN THIS CLASS. SHE GIVES GOOD GRADE TO THOSE WHOM DESERVED IT...YOU MUST READ THE BOOKS, TAKE NOTE & TAKE AN INTEREST IN HISTORY....YES, SHE TALKS FAST SO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION...SHE GIVES ALL ANSWERS TO THE MIDTERMS ON THE DAY OF REVIEW... HAVE FUN & SPEAK UP.
Nava is alright, but i recommend you take Naverson instead.... BEST TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!
Her teaching methods are outstanding
Mrs. Nava is extremely helpful. Her class is very fun and her lectures may be fast, but you'll still learn. Take lots of notes and read the books b/c she takes most of the stuff from the 2 books required. All the test are essay exams, so just study the question you're going to do and stick to the question asked!
she is very helpful. you must take notes and read the text book inorder to pass he class. test are fair and she gives a study sheet.
Her class isn't hard if you make an effort. Read the book and take notes and most listen to her lecture. She usually gives the answers in her lectures. U just have to pay attention. Pre-write the essay questions at home and memorize them. Makes taking the test easier. There is one book critique which is easy to pass if you again pre-write it.
Pretty cool professor. All essay test so you have to read and listen in class. She kinda talks fast during lectures so gots to be a fast writter or bring a recorder. Attendance is mandatory for her or she will drop you. She is a very understanding professor and care a lot about her students.
Mrs. Nava is one of the greatest teachers i have ever met. i never liked history but mrs nava has a way to actually make you enjoy it. i looked foward on going to class. she is one of the few teachers i have met that actually care about there students. no homework.
She's very helpful and passionate with what she does. she grades very easily. just complete your hw and you'll do fine. her discussion in class is what makes everything interesting.
My best teacher yet. She's very helpful to her student. And the class is very interesting. Reading is a must in her class. Test are usually multiple choices and essay. She usaully give out the themes for the test.
I highly recommend taking Nava for both Hist 17A and Hist 17B. Do not take your class if you're not an avid reader or a good writer. Lectures, class discussions, and tests rely on doing the assigned readings and writing great essays. Multiple extra credit options so there really should be no room for failure.
very helpful. reasonable. she's nice. it's one of those classes where you're guaranteed an A if you put in some effort and some studying. i recommend her classes!!! esp. women's history.
She is passionate about her job. A little eccentric at times. She gives lots of leeway for those who dont do so well on a test or two.
2009-2010: Buy the combined version (vol. 1-2) of the main book for use in both classes; it is also very cheap. Great teacher. 017A was easy multiple choice w/ short essays; 017B is one longer essay for each test and an oral presentation for the final. Include many key words in essays
Professor Nava is a amazing teacher, I absoulutly love her! She is sweet and very approachable. I took her womens history class and enjoyed the class very much. Take this class with her, I really reccomend it. Didn't need the textbook for the class so don't buy it. She has notes on her website which are really helpful. She is a amazing and inspiring teacher!
Nava is a nice woman with a sensitive temper. Her tests are book-based but her lectures are from the top of her head, which makes no sense to me.
Ms. Nava is very passionate about her subject. I enjoyed the ethnic and social view she took on history, making it new again and enjoyable to learn about. She was really really helpful whenever I needed help. But this is not a class for people looking for an easy A or very little work. You need to show up to class, participate, and read the book.
Nava is a good teacher. She was really nice and she teaches very well. Take her women history class. It was the greatest.
SHE TALKS REALLY FAST. TELLS YOU STORIES THERE N HERE...SHE THINKS U SHOULD STEP UP UR GAME TIME TO STUDY...DONT TAKE HER CLASS IF UR NOT A GOOD ESSAY WRITER.. I DROPED THE CLASS BECAUSE I JUST COULD NOT REMEMBER THINGS FROM THE BOOK WHEN I READ ALL THE CHAPTERS AND MY ESSAYS NEEDED MORE DETAILS...SHES REALLY HARD ON UR ESSAYS BUT COOL TEACHER
I took her for Women In American History and she was a great teacher. She runs through everything in a fast pace so you must be able to listen and jot down notes very quick! Everything she says is exactly what you should put in your exams which are essays. My first essay I got a C, however I ended up with an A in her class because i totally got the
Miss Nava is a really nice teacher, as long as you pay attention to her lectures you should do fine. and do the extra credit! its easy and it will help your grade alot! i got a C on the first exam and a B on the second exam. i passed the class with an A still. just listen to her lectures and incorporate them in your essay and you will pass w/ an A!
All her test are essays and not too difficult because she goes over them on her lectures, but if you are a bad writer i dont recommend her. However, you have to show up on time and everyday, so keep that in mind. As said before she talks fast. Just do the work and you can get an easy B or A if you tried a little more. Plus there are extra credit.
She doesn't assign homework. She has 4 exams, but she drops the lower grade on your first two exams. Take notes, I found myself getting B's on the exams based on the notes, read the book if you're looking for an A. She's really passionate about history too, which makes you interested in it too..
I took her for both HIST 17B and Women in American History. She has lots of knowledge that she shares with the class. Her lectures and reading are really important. Her exams are essays. She is also starting more class discussion. Just stay on top and you'll do fine! I am a DSP student an she was very kind to me and helpful.
She's awesome! Take her. Mostly essays but if you pay attention you'll do fine.
Nice Teacher
Took her for Women's history. She's amazing! I would take her again if I could she is passionate about teaching, passionate about women's rights!!Class is easy if you don't slack off. I fell behind but knows if you're trying but just struggling in life or if you are really just not caring about coming to class. I passed with a B yey!
SUPER HELPFUL
I've never been a big history fan because I always found it to be boring, but Nava is so passionate about history that I paid full attention in class. She's really passionate about what she does and tries her best to show everyone what they can achieve. Just take good notes and you'll do fine on the tests. Always be on time and be respectful.
She may seem hard or strict at first but she's a very nice teacher! She'll drop your lowest grade so it helps you out a bit. ) A lot of reading, but its history what do you expect? In class lectures aren't as bad either because she rewords everything in her own way and shows a movie clip
I am no history or writing fan to start. I took 2 classes before with other instructors and failed miserably. When I took Nava for 17B I loved the way she taught and talked about history. She made it sound more intriguing to learn and understand. Of course I took her class again for 17A. Mention key point in essays and you're fine. Best Hist Prof
Great professor! There were 3 tests; all essays in class. I got a complete F on the first essay. I thought I was gonna fail the class, but it was my fault because she gives you the essay questions before so you have time to write a draft. Anyway, I got an A on the last 2 essays and passed the class with an A! Loved it! (1 group presentation)
She drops your lowest score on the exam to give you a good grade and she gives plenty of extra credit so it's impossible to get a bad grade in her class unless you don't try. Just take notes from her lectures and write down the key points in exams to do well. :)
This professor has got to be an outstanding example for someone who has lost their passion to teach. She drones on and on during class, doesn't make instructions clear, judges students, and belittles them throughout the semester. She does offer extra credit, a bad grade drop, and an easy test system; dealing with her throughout the year is tough.
Professor Nava is one of the best history professors I've ever had! There are three exams and the final is a group project! There is really no way of failing her class unless you don't try of course. I definitely recommend!
Professor Nava was my first history professor that I chose during my first year at EVC. Honestly, I was scared at first but realized that professor Nava isn't as hard as it seems. To be successful in the class, you got to work hard, read your materials, and takes notes. I took professor Nava for History 17A, and History 17B and I really like it.
Awesome teacher. She can seem strict at first and at times, but she's very nice and wants every student to succeed. Her class consists of essay exams and one group presentation. She does drop your lowest grade on the exams and offers extra credit throughout the semester. Come to class, pay attention, take notes, and you'll be fine.
Really great teacher. Seems strict at first but once you get to know her she just cares about you and wants you to pass her class. Gives alot of opportunities for you to pass the class so its really entirely up to you to decide the grade that you want.
Never learned so much before. Excited to take her for 17B
I've took her for 17a & 17b because she's an amazing teacher. She really wants to make sure you pass and will help you in several ways! She gives extra credit and drops an exam which helps a lot so don't be discouraged if you start of the semester rocky. Try your best and you will get the grade.
I havent finished yet but she is super loud and opinionated. She complains no one reads the "assigned chapters" but she's never assigned any. On top of that, in the start of semester she said the textbook wasnt required but now she says it is. Thinks she's cool but isn't.
Took her for 17A and 17B. Let me tell you, before I never thought it was possible for me to be slightly good at history, it would go in one ear and out the other. Her lectures are amazing and I love the way she grades. She pushes you to do your best and really cares. I wish she taught more classes!!
Nava always looks super intimidating at first, but she really just wants her class to pass. All three of her tests are written, but she gives you the prompts before hand. She drops your lowest exam grade, and if you get an A on the first two exams, you're excused from the third. Lectures can be confusing, but with a little research you should be ok
professor Nava is very nice , all her assignments were esay to understand. If you pay attention in class and do the extra credit work you will pass with a good grade. The essay questions she asks on the test are simple and if you really pay attention in class you will be able to write and excellent paper, everything she talks about in class helps.
Very easy class. Just take good notes and pay attention to everything she says. May be opinionated but extremely thoughtful. A smart woman!
I enjoyed this class so so much. I felt like I learned a lot in this class, I took this class my first semester at evc and I did not regret not one bit of it. I was entertained. If you really put in the attention and the work you will get a good grade, I passed with an A.
