Very interesting speaker. Moves too quickly through her powerpoint. You are so busy writing the screen down it is hard to take notes of what she is saying as well. Tests are VERY difficult. Syllabus is extremely complicated for introductory level class. I would hate to see what she expects from a upper level class!
Lady is out of her mind! Before the start of every class, there is either a quiz due or an essay that needs to be submitted. She treats the class as though everyone was a graduate student in the school of theatre, and grades very harshly. Never informs class of due dates, but waits until a few days before to post anouncements.
Ms. Osborne loves to see students fail.
Don't let her face fool you. She smiles a lot but is extremely hard. She makes the class harder than it's supposed to be ex. timed online quizzes,...
She's hard...only theatre teacher that makes this class hard...even after reading the plays and writing down exactly what she has on her powerpoints and more from what she adds you still cant get more than a 70% or 80% on the quizzes which are timed and the save feature doesnt work...also she doesnt care about your grade.
She really is not all that bad. Very nice lady and is really helpful whenever u need it. Class isn't "hard"- just a lot to do. Weekly online quizzes so you have to go to class. There is 3 essays... not bad though. She does grade VERY HARSH! She gives tons of extra credit opportunities... just don't take this class if you are looking for an easy A.
she does indeed make the class harder than it needs to be- although it wasnt all that bad. i dont think she graded harshly at all. definitely not an easy A, you cant sit back and let it pass- i did get a 60 or something on the midterm- but she gives tons of extra credit opportunities and i was able to bring my grade back up to an A. Interesting cla
I loved Prof. Osborne... the others obviously didn't go to class. I agree you do have to work for a good grade but welcome to college. She is the nicest lady in the world and is always willing to help. If you have a problem, tell her and she wants to make it right. If you go to class there is no way you won't make an A... plus tons of extra credit!
BORING class. ****y TA. Doesn't take attendance daily, but has random pop-up quizzes that count. Plays are horribly boring, and tend to be a difficult read. A lot of work involved. Sweet lady, but talks like she should be teaching 1st grade. you WILL need to book to read the plays, but if you have a friend in the class, share the book & save $100.
She was fine, real nice- never really needed to talk to her face to face, most of the time your told to talk to the T.A. (wasnt too happy of her grading,oh well (Amy Klutsaris*)) there is a lot of reading plays(not fun) &the online quizzes are Easy (cough, cough). its a lot of work but i only needed to get 100/150 on the final, just do E/C (lots).
The class was suppossed to be an easy 'A' and turned out to be my hardest all semester. Attendence is worth like 150 pts. She doesn't care if her students fail and makes the class so much harder than it should be. I was doing stuff that my friend in the theatre major was doing in her major courses. Not fun at all!
My fun class. Mrs. Osborne is really helpful and nice and she keeps the class interesting.
Nice lady, great class.
She's a great teacher, very interesting and very knowledgable. I loved the class. (and very easy!)
Awesome teacher. Nice lady, very helpful and cares.
It's not a blowoff class but if you turn stuff in and go to class you'll do well. All the quizzes are open book and she only takes attendance about one time a week. She's really helpful if you go talk to her.
I took this in the spring and it was a good class. I heard it was really different (easier) from the fall. If you do the work and go to class it's hard to do bad in this class. Plus Mrs. Osborne tries so hard to make class fun and help you out.
you have to do all the reading.
Yes, you have to do the reading. But it's all plays and most of them were fine (even good). Only 3 papers for a gordon rule and one wasn't even a regular paper. Overall, a great class. Plus its also multicultural in the fall.
good class, hardly any papers for a gordon rule. have to go to class, but she tries to keep it fun. really helpful lady.
Dr. Osborne is great! You have to go to class and do the reading but the quizzes are open note/book and easy. There are only 3 papers and it is a gordon rule and multicultural class. She makes it really fun and entertaining! I definitely recommend taking her class!
I loved this class! Take it if you want an easy gordon rule and multicultural credit. Dr. Osborne is so nice and such a great professor.
I love theatre, was a theatre major in my hs, but this teacher was completely unprofessional. It is an easy "A" class but she will drive you crazy. Tends to treat her students like kindergardeners. There are two semi-large papers that you could write with your eyes closed and still get an A.
She's the BEST!!! I would take her again if I could. She's understanding and very funny/interesting in class. Attendence is a must due to (easy) quiz. There are 2-3 papers. Class readings are mostly good. Easy A class!
Really cool lady. She wants her students to not only learn the material, but actually like it. There is a lot of reading, however I took the class with my two roommates and we were able to split it up. REDICULOUS AMOUNT OF EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS!
Should be a GPA Booster.. You have to read a liitle but stories are slightly interesting.. The perf project is crcial as well as the papers fair grader though..If you put in good effort should have A easily..She teaches online lectures are boring and long so be ready lol easy class though still
This class was a hybrid class. I didnt like the online lecture part, however once a week we would meet in smaller class sizes with a TA. Prof. Osborne stopped in only a few times. Very nice lady. The class was interesting and not that difficult. It wasn't completely easy, you had to do some work, but this IS college!!! Love theater! Love this class
So easy. I have a 699 out of 700 in the class. Quiz every class. Hybrid was really nice because you listen to the lecture when you want. There are some long readings but alot of them have been made into movies that are online free. Gordon rule class. Take this! Taught by a TA. Tim is the best
Nice lady, not the actual teacher though you will have a T.A. Really easy class. Write a few essays, do good on the midterm and final, in class quiz once a week etc... As long as you go to class and do whats assigned it would be pretty hard not to get an A
Way too many assignments, but easy A. buy the book used, the CD in the new one is pointless, just borrow the book from the library. Could have gotten a zero on the final exam and still made an A in the class.
Please take it from me, and DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you don't need to! I thought this class would be a easy gpa booster since it was just an intro course, but the amount of work given in this class is ridiculous! You can get an A, but you have to devote countless hours in order to get one!
Overall this class is pretty easy. There are lots of assignments but they are pretty easy and a ton of extra credit options. There are some long readings and lectures but nothing too horrible. Lots of group discussion and projects. Overall a pretty easy and intersting Gordon rule and y class
Really cares about the students. Hard to do badly if you do the reading and turn stuff in.
Very easy A. You have a TA and meet once a week (take a short quiz), and between sessions you listen to Osborne's lecture online while following a powerpointish presentation. the key to this class: TAKE NOTES. just spend a couple hours each week actually taking notes on the lectures, then use them to study later! 2 easy papers, read a couple plays.
She totally cares about the students. If you do the work and turn stuff in on time, its hard to get a bad grade. Tons of extra credit. Fun class. +Gord rule and Y.
This class is easy if you know a thing or two about theater. I took it with my friend and thought it was easy but she thought it was hard. The TA teaches the class. Unfortunately, we got stuck with a crappy TA who never answered back emails or graded our stuff so it's all luck of the draw. Plus it's a lot of work for an intro class.
Such a fun class! The class is half online and half in the classroom, so it's nice to only have to come once a week. You are not actually taught by Dr. Osborne personally, but instead listen to her lecture online once a week. The other half is taught by a TA in the classroom. Easy class, I highly recommend it!
For the online portion, she made everything clear. Theres a Midterm and a Final which comes straight from the online lectures. Attendance is mandatory. And you do have to act in a group in the end. You do have to put in some effort into this class, I wouldn't say its a complete easy "A" but If you do well on the papers and study you should be fine.
Class is all online now. Still lots of extra credit, only two exams. There are some quizzes and discussion boards, and you have to keep up. Overall, she's really nice and rewards hard work. Have to buy the book.
This class is all online. It's a little bit more work than I would expect from a theatre class. You have plenty of time to do each module. She also offers numerous extra credit opportunities. The course is mostly into how theatre affects today's age and why this play now? You have to read about 4 plays. Easy if you have precious knowledge.
The class was entirely online. My T,A. was great and got back to me quick, as did Dr. Osborne. I am not a fan of theatre at all, but the class overall was easy. There is quite a lot of busy work, six modules total, but she gives you a ton of time to do them. The prerecorded lectures are long, and you must take notes. Easy A overall! Got Y credit
There is a lot of busy work in this class, however Osborne tries to make the extremely long lectures more bearable by being entertaining and friendly. Read all of the plays (or watch them on youtube) as well as watch her lectures. Take notes on both, her tests are very detail oriented. Material is easy but tedious.
This class was one of my easiest classes taken and it covered two requirements for me. I took the online version of this class and it wasn't overwhelming but she definitely takes this class very seriously.
Dr. Osborne is really passionate for what she teaches and does a great job at making sure that all the knowledge is clear and absorbed well by using different medias (video lectures, reading, and projects/quizzes). She occasionally throws in some sexual jokes in her lectures. Everything is paced well. She or her TA's are easily accessibly anytime.
Really good lectures however a lot of reading of plays, I did the class with a group of friends and we all shared the reading and lecture work and we all got good grades. However, there is a big outreach project which is annoying
This class is a perfect representation of a teacher who tries WAY too hard in an Intro course. Although the quizzes were easy, the work needed to be done in order to take them was both time consuming, and unbearable. If you are looking for a class that doesn't ask for too much, or if you are taking other classes with heavy workloads, DO NOT TAKE!!!
Pretty easy class. The lectures are rough to get through - each one over an hour. Quizzes are easy if you take notes and you have the option of retaking them. The only down side is the big project throughout the semester. You definitely have to do a lot of work if you expect to do well on the project (worth 15% of grade)
great professor but would NEVER take again. so much overwhelming homework i have no idea how she expects that much work out of a student. completely too much
Must watch lectures!! Quizzes are not hard if you watch the lectures. There are plays you have to read but I got by with watching them or reading summaries. Offers a good deal of extra credit. Midterm and Final are only two tests and are just like the study guide. 3 projects but they're not haShe's a super nice person and wants you to do good.
Seriously one of the worst online classes I've taken. Lectures are PAINFULLY long and if you don't watch them good luck on the quizzes. Same goes for the readings (both plays and online textbook). Midterm and Final are alright, not too hard but not simple either. Satisfies 2 requirements but it's so much work.
By far one of the best online professors at FSU. Her lectures are very well made and she works hard to make sure her students get to know the material. She gives so much extra credit that it is hard to not get an A in this class.
In my experience Osborne was awesome. It's kinda a lot of work but she gives you so much time and if you put effort in you should get a good grade easily. Super friendly and always emails and reminds you about stuff so forgetting about something will never happen. Loads of extra credit opportunities, just put little effort in and you will be fine.
I loved Dr. Osborne, she's so nice and sets up her class very well. Its a lot of work but it's VERY easy. Follow the rubric for the projects and you'll get a good grade, watch lecture videos and you'll do fine in on quizzes and exams. I didn't buy the textbook and still ended with an A. Lots of ec opportunities
I absolutely loved her! She really seems to be passionate about what she's talking about. The lectures were lengthy so don't put your work off until the last minute (I learned the hard way). She only wants to help you and gives extra credit opportunities. Watch her exam reviews. The class wasn't a *total* breeze but definitely recommend.
Dr. Osborne is so awesome! She's a great professor and I definitely recommend. She wants her students to succeed and gives you all the information you need and more.
Dr. Osborne is a genuinely lovely woman and her lectures are great. The readings for the class are generally pretty short and concise, but the lectures and videos can total up to about 5 hours in a module. God help you on those exams, though. She's a big fan of true or false questions and throwbacks to tiny videos you probably didn't watch.
Dr. Osborne knows what she is talking about and is very good at what she does, but she is too tough of a grader. Everything I did was wrong in her eyes. Do not take this course unless you are willing to be dedicated to it and do not have a social life. Also make sure you sign up for exam times because she will take 50% off if you for the makeup.
Dissapointed. Theres excessive work. Get ready to watch 4 hours of lectures, read 3 chapters, a play, discussion board, and 2 quizzes every 2 weeks on top of 2 projects throughout the semester. Quizzes/exams are based on memorizing small details rather than concepts & ideas. Don't feel like I've retained anything. Nice doesn't equal learning.
Dr. Osborne's class could be actually fun and enjoyable. But there's a lot of work and most of it's trying to find things on Canvas. The online class is divided into a main tab (the professor's stuff) and section tab (the TA's stuff). It's overwhelming and it needs to be condensed for improved student experience.
Elizabeth Osborne is a very sweet professor. This class is not difficult. You watch lectures online ( I suggest taking notes on the lectures), read plays, and read chapters of the textbook. The quizzes are open notes, one quiz for the lectures and another lecture for the readings. If you try, you'll get an A for sure.
I would only take this class if you need the y and ethics credit. This class is a lot of work for being theatre for non-majors. She clearly compensates for this being an online class because there are 3 hour-long lectures, a discussion board, and 2 quizzes due every 2 wks. There is also a huge overall project that is a pain. EC is a thing though.
Omg I spend more time doing work for this class than for classes for my major. Its rediculous. Steer clear if youre looking for an easy y credit course
Whatever you do do not take this class it is literally the worst online class you can possibly take. Its an intro level theatre class that no one cares about and makes you work harder than half of your classes that actually benefit you.
THE WORST. She is a terrible teacher, and the work load for this course is absolutely ludicrous. I've had to read more and write more in this class than all of my other classes combined and I'm taking writing heavy classes. The amount of work for a non-major class is just ridiculous. Also her TA's are bad and her quizzes/tests/midterm are terrible.
A lot of work. I don't suggest taking this class if you're looking for an easy "Y" class or humanities. I'm taking 16 credits and I spend the most time doing work for this class and it has nothing to do with my major. The prof is really sweet however and the grading criteria is always clear. You will actually have to do the work though.
All that Osborne does is send out announcements and post lecture videos. All the grading is done by the TA. Honestly, this class is HEAVY material, so it wasn't just the usual easy A general elective- they make you work for this one. If you don't have good work ethic, don't take this class.
Dr. Osborne is very knowledgable about theatre but this class is unecisarily hard. As an online class, for each lecture I had to write over 6 pages of notes and still would get B's on the quizzes. If you take this class, get ready to work.
Hardest final/midterm. Way too hard for a THEATRE class.
6 modules that each include: 3 hours of lectures, 2 hours of FSU connection videos, 1 play to read, and 3 discussion posts (to do in a three-week time frame) Outreach project is not hard, but the information is not clear. Various opportunities for extra credit
Do not take this class if you're trying to fulfill simple requirements; this class has so many assignments and the exams are ridiculously hard. Elizabeth Osborne does not care about her students well-being at all. I was dealing with a medical emergency and she refused to push my exam back 2 days. My grade dropped 20% & ultimately I had to withdraw.
In this online class you are required to do more work than you would be if you were taking it in person. Lectures are online videos that are over an hour each. Lots of textbook reading and projects. Only take this class if you are EXTREMELY interested in theatre.
This class is way too much work for a 2000 level class. I'm taking 3000 level classes and this and have 16 hours and spend 80% of my time on this class and am still getting a B. The questions on the exams have very little to do with theater and more to do with her interviews and what their opinion is on a topic. I learned nothing and my gpa suffere
I took this class to fill my diversity requirement and I was blown away by the difficulty of this course. There is a ridiculously large amount of information being thrown at you that seems virtually irrelevant. This is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. STRONGLY recommend not taking this course!!!!!
Excellent professor, but with inflated expectations for a gen ed class. This class is not intended to be easy; it is intended to be holistic overview of the discipline of theatre, as the name suggests. If you are looking for an easy gen ed, this is not the class you are looking for. You will need to invest a lot of time and energy into this class.
Dr. Osborne is clearly passionate about theatre and I appreciate it... however, THE2000 is an INTRODUCTION to theatre class and this was EVERYTHING BUT an introduction. Dr. Osborne has TOO high of expectations of what an intro to theatre class should be, expecting us to watch countless HOUR long videos, read 6 plays, and more. Just no.
Awful teaching style. Several hour long video long videos with no transcript. Many quizzes. Way too complicated for an introductory course and I'm glad to say I never have to take a class of hers again. Very poor instructions for projects. Only redeeming quality is she grades easily for the most part.
Dr. Osborne is very well versed in Theatre but her expectation for you to know just as much as her is way to high. Each lecture is filled with hours of videos and reading along with side projects, 6 plays to read, and many quizzes. She requires you to take not only a final exam but also a midterm. I don't recommend taking this class to anyone.
Ms. Osborne took a gen ed theatre class and made it into a nightmare. I took this online class for a y series credit and it was the biggest mistake. The exams are impossible and the work load is exhausting. This class sucks and so do her expectations
I dont feel that this class acurately teached and introduction the theatre. I would say it taught an intoduction to politicised theatre. Heavy emphasis on politicised!
This class is ridiculous way too much work for a 2000 level basic theatre class. The professor Beth Osborne is very passionate about theatre which I don't mind but give me a break! She talks so much about identity politics instead of actually going over the stuff she puts on her crazy exams. Weekly quizzes, discussion boards and play readings.
Not an Enjoyable class. Easy though
Awful teaching style.
