The worst prof. I ever had. She is completely inconsistent with her teaching style.
Very good instructor. Encourages students to think and participate, not just read out of the text. She is very fair and flexible; good sense of humor. She prepares students well for exams. Great instructor overall. If you din't do well, you didn't put enough work, effort, or time into your own education.
She seems to lack clarity and consistency. Would not advise her. Also very hard to approach for asistence.
She was great! And halarious! She really respects her students and expects a lot from them. She posted all her notes on blackbaord, which was extremely helpful and made studying much less stressful! This probably was the hardest class I had last year but I still got a good mark. If you put in the effort, this class will be fun!
She's a quality person, and genuinely wants her students to do well, but it seems like actually doing well in her class is near impossible. I have a 4.0 in all three of my other classes and an F so far in hers. VERY difficult exams, in respect to time constraints. TIP when she says "explain fully" on an exam question just explain the general idea.
Not a good professor. Don't take her classes. Bad style, bad marking, bad comments, poor curriculum. She would essentially summarize the reading, that you had to read because you had to do a weekly summary of it. This mad for a terribly boring class. I hope she considers a new approach to the material. But for now steer clear.
I would definitely not recommend Elizabeth Panasiuk to anyone. Her classes arn't that bad.Teaching style is silly. All power point notes. Do not be fooled by her pre-class amble about how great her class is and how fair of a marker she is.I have never received one useful comment on any of the assignments, essays, or tests. Avoid her if possible.
It seemed impossible to get a good mark in her class.
She needs to change her teaching style. She marks so hard, also never available during office hours.
I had her at the U of A, she's not very good at getting her point across. I think she's nice in public, but just not very good at teaching a phil intro or second year class. She's not clear or concise, also exam's and midterms were very hard. If you can avoid her do so if possible to save your GPA.
She was amazingly helpful! She couldn't have given a clearer guideline for the essays, and I followed it and got a really good mark! She doesn't MAKE you do weekly summaries, but they are optional, and helpful! Class was fun too! If you follow her advice and hints you'll do fine. I really enjoyed Elizabeth as a professor!
Elizabeth is an extremely hard marker. She is such a nice person and DOES care if you succeed. I recommend going to class as the text book is confusing and just boring. By attending class and actually engaging you will be able to do well.
From talking with most people we all think she was a good person; but she is not a very good professor when she is teaching, meaning she should stick to research reagrding ethics better then teach it. All our G.P.A's are going to suffer because she is tough marker.
Absolute horrible teacher. Stay away...
Great personality and teaching style. If u enjoy learning about humanity take this class! I found it to be very enlightening and she is enthusiastic. I walked away from this class with a new view of the world morally and politically. She wants you to well, gives u all the tools, even essay writing workshop which is not her responsibility.
She was ok for an intro class. Just a hard marker.
Worst prof ever, not very helpful and when you did get a response there was always an arrogant response. I wouldn't recommend taking her class. She was also rude to some students, which was not very professional.
She could have better explained a few things; most of her lectures were boring and dull.
Great class, everyone whom I spoke with enjoyed it and appreciated her clarity and effort. No other instructer put as much effort into making sure we understood the material. Clear guides and notes for everything, even essay writing which she gave us a month to complete. some students struggled but not because of her, maybe it was the concepts
She is very clear and makes theories relevant. with everything she gives u to succeed it is not surprising that she expects u to do well and her marking isn't as bad as people say at all. I enjoyed this class very much and reccomend it to anyone
She was ok. Read the text, and you will be ok as in C. Didn't find her very helpful.
Elizabeth is an excellent professor. She is able to provide examples that are relevant and presents material in a way that students can relate to. People who say the class is difficult either aren't reading the assigned sections, coming to class or are not engaged. She takes the time to help, offer suggestions. GO TO CLASS and you will do well.
She's a really hard marker. She seems fine at first then you get that first paper back you start to wonder why? Then the midterm comes you ask this has nothing to do with the course. Then the essay you have a tear inside. Then the final just get me out. Then the final grade is either a low D or a fail. She marks the same. You will cry in the end.
Knows her stuff, makes her expectations for assignments and papers clear. Teaching style is rather straight forward, she is always willing to talk after class or during office hours. Be prepared to get pushed in terms of time and work invested, as she expects a lot from a 100 level course. Polish submissions, marks hard. Overall great professor.
I think that she is awesome. Class was interesting and relevant. She provides guidelines for what is expected. She is not a hard marker if you follow her explicit guidelines... She made it apparent what was going to be tested, which is nice too. I would take another class from her.
Loved this class!!! Elizabeth is such an awesome and funny professor and I really want to take another class with her. VERY fair marker and is clear on her expectations. Midterm and Final took a long time to write but were VERY easy as long as you were paying attention in class! Attendance is mandatory, but she will make you WANT to come to class!!
Just make sure you read the text. She was, at times, somewhat confusing.
very difficult prof to have. the material is extraordinarily dry but she makes it that much worse. she gives out plenty of notes that aren't in the text so being in class is important. if you are looking for an easy prof, she's not the one to go with. she has a very high work load and is tough on marking. suggest finding another prof if possible!
Very hard prof to please, she makes everyone feel inferior to her. She was a little aggressive. She could have been a little bit more open in class discussion. Also she expects way to much for an intro class; it is like she is waiting for everyone to fail. It also seems like Elizabeth would be better at doing private studies instead of teaching.
I'm completely baffled by some comments. When she gives the stats for how well people did on assignments, a HUGE portion of the class gets B & higher. There are NO surprises on the exams-she makes study guides and basically gives questions right off of them. She posts notes, and makes dense material interesting and comprehensible. Best prof I have.
It's sad that some intro students don't appreciate how straightforward Elizabeth is. In all my other classes (and I am an Engl major and poli minor) no professor was as explicit. I followed it and got an A+ on the paper, good marks are possible if you actually listen to her!
Make sure this is the only class you take. Getting a good grade requires you give her, and this class, your full divided attention. Make sure you polish all submissions to the point. Also do review questions; they will help you with the material. Memorize everything, her notes, lectures, and class videos. Also pinpoint exactly what Elizabeth says.
She is just fantastic. Best course I've taken in 4 years. It changed the way I think about everything. Workload is really light, and she sets it up so you can succeed if you read, show up, and pay attention.
Very fair teacher, make sure you do the readings and you'll be fine. Even just use Sparknotes and you'll get by if you attend class. She was always very welcoming and quite funny too! My favorite university prof
I thought Elizabeth was one of the best teachers, that I've had, a difficult marker, but one that explained what you got wrong, and what you could do to improve very well. She was well-versed in her knowledge, and challenged us to learn.
Great Prof! Challenging but teaches material very clearly.
Wanted to drop it before starting because of bad phil experience last semester. Glad I didn't. She's very polite and helpful and gives lots of material to help with course. She makes it very interesting and encourages class discussions! Great notes on blackboard, good study guides, no surprises on exams. Very fair marker! Definitely recommend her!
I loved Elizabeth. I did not really like the course itself, but you can tell that she really wanted you to do well, and she was just the coolest, and nicest person ever. If I had any further interest in Philosophy I would for sure take another one of her classes.
I love her. Panasiuk is cool, interesting, eccentric, witty, and is passionate about philosophy. Fair marker, who sets out clear expectations. She also genuinely cares about students as people. One of my favourite profs ever.
Awesome teacher. Very clear about expectations and easy marker. Also her lectures are hilarious.
Best lecturer I've had at MacEwan to date. Uses PowerPoints for every class but doesn't rely heavily on them. Lots of class discussion made for lots of interaction. Has a comedy club atmosphere yet professional. Hardly used the textbook at all, but she does a great job of explaining concepts. Gorgeous. Only downside is she's a difficult marker.
I am a student at a different college, and this class was harder than I expected: the course workload was very light, but she didn't grade any easier than other profs I've had. I got an A- and I didn't do any of the readings plus did the essay/assignment a few hours before they were due. She is a really good professor and I enjoyed her personality.
I was thoroughly unimpressed. She has a tough accent to understand and her lectures are very circular. She picks one point and reiterates it several times and before you know it she has spent ten minutes telling you the same thing. Her quizzes are strange, pay close attention and make sure you read further then she tells you too in class.
She means well but she is EXTREMELY harsh in marking, and she expects way too much. Her exams are long and ask you to answer too much in a very short amount of time, if she doesn't like your argument and answer on an exam she will likely mark it a flat 0 instead of considering some part mark aspects. Avoid her unless you want your GPA to plummet.
She is amazing. My favorite teacher. She is so subtely funny and makes class so entertaining. She is so smart and uses the most relatable examples to explain pretty complex concepts. She is the type of prof that will stay after class to talk to you about the lecture. She's kind of eccentric but in a really good way. Not to mention super adorable.
She is very kind, helpful and funny. Exam can be a bit rough, but mangeable.
I had Elizabeth every morning, 3 hours, for 3 weeks. She made the 3 hours fly by. She's hilarious and entertaining and makes learning fun. However, if you're taking this class thinking it's going to be easy, or a GPA booster, don't. Elizabeth is very laid back when she teaches but her exams are tough and she's excedingly specific in what she wants.
She was so helpful and funny. Her lectures were amaking. Going into Phil I didn't know what to expect. I wasn't interested in tht course itself but Elizabeth really changed that! If you put i an effort you will do well
Elizabeth is a great professor. She is so helpful and hilarious As long as you put in the work you will do well. I wading her office hours a lot and she helped me and walked me through everything. Great prof!!
Hard to be interested if you aren't into this type of stuff if you are taking this because you have to then she is a good prof she goes through the readings pretty well its just pretty boring far-fetched. repetitive nonsense about virtue and fulfilling your potential and that is the whole key to happiness, she is a good prof pretty easy-going
I didn't really know what to expect going into Philosophy. I actually ended up dropping this class before the end of the semester; it was a lot of reading and work and very stressful! If you like reading and find philosophy interesting you won't mind this class. She does make the lectures interesting! Just wasn't the class for me
Very harsh grader. Lowest grade I have received in University. Ended with a C+ when I am an A student in every other class. She expects you to write like Aristotle, Kant, Descarte... Too difficult to be teaching 100 level classes. She is nice, but that doesn't help with grades.. She expects you to walk into her class already a great philosopher
Made me love philosophy and going to class! Very interesting and funny lectures. I would highly recommend!
You MUST go to class if you want to pass. She gives so much reading in such short time and grades really difficult.
She's a really good prof but this class requires a lot of commitment. She assigns long readings at least once a week and attendance is mandatory for a good grade. She posts the readings on ereserves so that you don't have to pay for textbooks. Overall she is a great prof but a full course load with this class was a lot.
Elizabeth is incredibly funny and laid back, and she's great at keeping the class engaged. Philosophy is pretty hard but she really helps you understand what philosopher's argue.
Philosophy is definitely a hard subject but she tells you what you need to do, to do good. She is very passionate about what she does and respects her students, gives good feedback and although you only get graded on four main things, the format of tests were great, do the work and readings and she will mark you as you deserve!
I found Elizabeth to be good and being marked on only 4 things was great. Everyone has posted about how you have to do the readings but her lectures explain the readings, so I didn't read one thing and I did good. Go to class because she adds on from the powerpoint and if you do that you'll be fine
Loves Philosophy with a passion. Really tough exams and a very hard marker. Wonderful lady, doesn't really care if you succeed or not. Prepares you to continue in Phil -- don't take her class unless you plan to major in Phil.
Worst professor I've ever had. Taking an online class with her meant that she was completely unreachable by phone and email, didn't provide proper feedback for assignments, and it took her almost 4 weeks to mark anything, so we went into the final exam knowing 20-30% of our grade. Avoid her at all costs, she left us in the dark and was unhelpful.
Elizabeth was a good professor for the online course I took. I'm not a philosophy major and made that clear to her and she provided constructive feedback for me for my written assignments. Her expectations were reasonable even though there were a lot of readings. She didn't hand things back super fast but other than that she was kind and supportive
She always cracks jokes during her lectures and tries to make these ancient philosophical theories relatable to our everyday life. Very helpful and is always willing to answer any questions. Very understanding. Posts power points online but I recommend still attending class because she goes way more into depth. gives a fantastic study guide, too.
Very interesting material, she teaches it well. Lectures slides are posted on Blackboard, so no biggie if you miss a class. 3 major assignments so put if you put in the work you'll get a good grade. Very good marker and will give feedback on how to improve or what your doing wrong or missing. Gives very clear outlines.
Her teaching is very dry and it is very easy to get bored or distacted. She seems to be very knowledgeable and passionate about philosophy though. She make you do a lot of group work. Overall, just a very average prof
I've never really been interested in philosophy, and even though I was scared to take that course at first, Elizabeth made me like it a lot. She's super funny, makes class enjoyable and interesting. She's very accessible outside the classroom as well. She also gives great feedback and wants you do well. I highly recommend her. She's amazing!!! :)
Elizabeth is a great philosophy professor. She's kind and answers questions well and is easy to approach. She posts powerpoints after each class. Tests were easy (just study her practice exams) and assignments (2) were acceptable: not much to hand in. She's an easy marker who will give you great feedback and a fair grade. 10/10 would recommend.
Not only the most inspiring lectures Ive ever had, but the most hilarious professor Ive had at MacEwan.
This was my first philosophy course and Panasiuk made it really enjoyable. She is super funny and I hardly ever found her lectures to be dry. I also think that this class can be a pretty easy A if you are into writing papers and putting in the work with a bit of reading.
Elizabeth is a very unclear instructor; who really does not care about her students. She wants to be get things over with, give you a D or F, and wants you to suffer. She marks hard, tells you to drop the course, and gives little joy to her students. She says "okay," way to much. She seems to have bad-no Knowledge or Reality on her subject matter.
The content introduced in philosophy is itself very interesting but Elizabeth fails to make it fun, instead she makes it strictly about grades. She seems as if she determines your grade by one factor... If you agree with her opinion or not. If you don't go to class she will not mark you kindly, guaranteed. My math classes were easier.
Panasiuk is incredibly smart, hilarious, super fair, and leaves me thinking and inspired after each lecture. Was a total GPA booster for me, too.
She's a massively tough grader, she gives very few genuine examples of assignments, and she will probably make you work hard for nothing. She does explain the readings fairly well, and she is somewhat relatable. Just to be clear, I am first year only wanted to fill requirements. I don't understand why she has to mark so viciously with that in mind.
Gives good lectures but you are graded on 4 items. Tests are RIDICULOUSLY hard.. or maybe it's just me lol
Do not take unless you ABSOLUTELY have to... I am a 4.0 student, and even with attending all lectures, and putting in many hours outside of lecture time, I only received a C. For essays she will just say your opinions and ideas are wrong, and not take in the point you are making if she disagrees. Also you must memorize all texts to do good on exams
I couldn't asked for a better introduction to philosophy. Loved the topics. Panasiuk basically gives the midterm questions on a study guide from which she picks a few. Essays are short, and she gives lots of information on how to write essays, and feedback so you can improve on your next one. Lectures were interesting and inspiring. 10/10.
There are lots of readings, however i read none of them and she goes over them so concisely I honestly didnt need too. She was so cool and made lectures really fun & also just was a good teacher who genuinely wants you to succeed. Shes a decent marker & I recommend for a fun class
Panasiuk is not only an amazing professor but a wonderful human being. She genuinely cares about students, and her classes were the highlight of my week. 10/10
Elizabeth is one of the best professors I've had at MacEwan. She's incredibly intelligent, funny, encouraging, and was amazingly helpful with lots of office hours and live sessions because she understood remote learning is challenging for students. A prof who actually cares about her students.
If youre taking this as a GPA booster DONT DO IT. Shes such a hard marker for an intro class. Gives mediocre feedback.
Hybrid classes are annoying but Elizabeth is a gem. The material is super interesting, and she didn't give any timed exams which takes the pressure of memorizing a bunch of stuff. Writing assignments were straightforward and she gave lots of helpful feedback. Super kind prof!
She marks insanely hard for an intro class. She's a really nice person but she expects way too much without telling us what she even wants. Unclear grading criteria on all written assignments. I would never ever take her again.
not sure how there are so many good reviews! Very tough grader and although I usually do well on writing assignments, she only grades by a few things(3, all essays) and does not give clear feedback which makes it hard to succeed. I loved the content and philosophy is great but FIND ANOTHER PROF if looking for gpa booster.
Elizabeth is a really good professor. Her learning outcomes are the clearest I have ever received from any other professor. She speaks very clearly and goes over material to ensure that everyone knows what is important to be understood. Anyone who says this class was hard must have not been trying at all!
I took class with her back in 2022, It was one of my very first university classes! There was an expectation to read and work through the readings but she unpacked things really beautifully as things went on and did what she could to encourage us online to talk and engage with what she was saying. I recommend her as a prof to many!
She feels like a mother to me. Very organized and passionate. Everyone's saying she's the hardest marker in the world but I'm not Shakespeare, and I'm not failing her class so maybe that's on you. She actually cares about her students and is very kind. Sometimes she makes you work in groups and I hate that but I survived so I guess it's fine.
I honestly adored Elizabeth. I could listen to her lectures all day. The class discussions definitely sparked my fire the day. That being said, I do agree that she's a tough grader. For an intro class, I was super surprised that her expectations were so heavy on essays practically being on a 3rd-year level. There is no room for mistakes.
Elizabeth is hilarious and super caring. Her lectures are excellent and super entertaining. She explains complex concepts in ways that make sense. She grades easily on papers, but her tests were a challenge. The midterm and final were all written, which was tiring, and you need to know these concepts deeply. Highly recommend attending lectures.
engaging prof however alot of reading in this course. exams are hard but essays are super easy to do well in and she gives greatfeed back on them too
Elizabeth is super nice and her lectures are engaging. She is a tough grader but gives good feedback on essays.
She teaches concepts clearly and methodically. Occasional group discussions during lectures and weekly readings. She's very kind and helpful during office hours. The midterm and the final were all written, but you'll be fine if you attend her lectures. I found her quite lenient on the reading analysis and the essay.
Extremely intelligent, compassionate, and funny. She will make you think, question your own moral faculties, and even come to define who you are as a person. She makes philosophy fun, engaging, and thought-provoking. She will mark tough but fair. Understand the main components of the philosophers. Work hard and you will get and A.
Elizabeth was an awesome prof. Her lectures were really good, she used some really beneficial examples to explain course content and you can tell she really enjoys what she is teaching. Do the assigned weekly readings! Her feedback on midterms and written work is beneficial. Just be aware tests are hand written long & short answer as well as T/F.
I loved her class. She made it super interesting and I'd definitely take one of classes again!!
Professor Elizabeth is engaging and makes philosophy fun. Lectures are excellent, but tests can be challenging - stay on top of readings and use resources like Unstuck study for study prep.
She teach well, provide detail slide, reading to practice. 3 exam 1 final, tough grader, she suppose you to write a lot in exam like for one page. 15 MC or TF
She wasn't the worst,Philosophy isn't something I enjoy, but her feedback for each midterm helped me a lot.I did very bad on the first but improved on the second and third, some of the readings are long and some are short, make sure to attend lectures as she goes over all the readings in detail so you can do good on the exams. 3 midterms and a final.
PHIL 100 is primarily a reading course. She is very nice, and it is clear she loves discussing what she teaches. She used a lot of real-world examples, which helped on the exams. The exams were handwritten and she expected a lot for 50 minutes, but if you studied and knew all the pieces discussed in class, there shouldn't have been a problem
She makes the class interesting and engaging.
She is a very nice woman who is clear and concise about what is on her test. This is a class where it's important to attend class and take notes because you won't do as well on the tests if you don't attend class. The readings are easy, all provided except for the work that you have to get yourself. I highly recommend her class
She clearly loves the course content and engages in discussion on topics in every class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it is tough to grasp the subject matter if not in attendance, as she usually adds evaluative response content to her discussion around the slides she goes through in class. She has a few jokes and is always open to new takes.
She's one of those instructors where you either find her amazing or quite difficult. Personally, I didn't "vibe" with her teaching style, so I didn't have the greatest experience.
Overall, she was a good teacher. I can tell that she really cared about what she was teaching and the classes overall understanding on each topic. The tests were hard, in order to get an A, you need to know the subject matter through and through because even if you think "she wont ask me what priori is on a test", yes she will.
Wonderful professor. My lecture was 3 hours long every Tuesday, which is demanding and can be very tiring even though the content is fun. Pay attention and write notes, I survived off of just reading the material and studying off of her power points but you have to know the information well because there is a lot of written. She is very helpful!!!
She comes across in class as a very caring person. It's why it pains me to admit that I got 90% in Humanities, but almost failed this class. After I was given the feedback on how she wanted me to improve, she still gave me only 1/5 marks. Even answers that were almost word-for-word how she described it in class.
