She's great. Her real-life programming experience makes the course very meaningful.
classes and material are kind of confusing but tests are easy
Appears to be unfriendly and intimidating, but she is not. She is easily accessible and always willing to help. I found the course to be tough at first, but I grew to appreciate it, minus the labs! If you really want to learn, take Stats with her!
Also had her for MIS 470. Great professor. Very knowledgeable, with a lot of real world experience. She is also caring, and willing to help you out outside of class. Would absolutely recommend taking a class with her.
Easily the nicest proffeseur I have met at bing and extremely helpful. Class is tough in the beginning but once you get the hang of it and realize if you ask her for help she does half the lab for you, the class is easy to pull a B or higher. Good teacher
Fairly easy professor, very helpful and explains things fairly well. Very nice too and easy to approach.
First semester teaching OPM. EASIEST class I have taken in SOM. Open book tests! Very easy to talk to and everything on the tests are straight from hmwks and class! LOTS of real world experience to add to the learning. Only take OPM with her if you can.
Great teacher, definitely the nicest teacher I have had so far. Probably the best class to take freshman year. Very helpful, excellent teaching style, easy to follow notes, use of blackboard is great, tests are open book. Great Teacher.
Overwhelming amounts of difficult assignments
Not the easiest to talk to, but her class is easy. Open book tests, weekly hw's (easy), 4 papers. Overall, not that bad. Would recommend taking it with her.
She's awesome as long as you do all of her assignments. The tests are open book and the labs are exactly what is done in class.
Very good professor. Do your hw, which is usually only one or two problems, go to class, which is manditory, and pay attention in the labs, and you'll do fine. Open book, open note tests.
worst teacher in all of som. totally unpersonable and very weird, stay away
No Comments
Very easy class. If you go to class and take notes you will do good on the tests because they are open book. You will get a good grade on tests as long as you understand the homework assignments
You've got to be stupid to fail this class
Test is so easy and it is open book! There is some work for the class. She is helpful and kind. The class is not very exciting though.
Awesome teacher...I say that because the class is soooo easy, open notebook tests, i consider myself on the dumb side in SOM and I got an A
1. DO YOUR HW, 2. TAKE GOOD NOTES, 3. READ THE ENTIRE CHAPTER, if you do all that, i guarantee at least a B+. I was dumb for not reading a chapter once, and instead of an A- or maybe even an A, i recieved a B+, DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE THAT I MADE, just give it a little work and effort
She is So Fair Enough..
shes always well prepared and she helps as much as possible when it's time to study for tests
Excellent Class. Learned ALOT...studied very little. Explains very little coursework in great detail. Boring but easy. Can comfortably leave the class knowing a great deal more without having to study alot. Also fun to learn how to use excel really well.
Her tests exactly asked about lectures. Going to class is all that's needed to pass. OPM sounds really boring, but she added real-life stories and almost made it interesting.

she was VERY unhelpful towards the end of the semester. I dont like how she teaches. Didn't care to make sure I understood the material and snapped at me for asking about what i did not understand.
This class is boring. Open book exams are a plus, but they are hard. TAKE GOOD NOTES. Perry is NOT very helpful... our 1st project she assigned included a part that no one knew how to do. Instead of explaining more clearly, she went on a tangent about how much time it would take to help each and every group. Hello lady, it's your job.
Very easy class. All you need to do for tests is doing homework and going to class. the class does not cover difficult materials which you can see in statistics course offered by mathmatics department. Again Easy A
Took her for CQS 112. Definitely the EASIEST class in SOM (easier than MKTG 311, for those who thought so). Just look at the practice exams and understand the solutions to the homeworks and the class is a cakewalk. Perry is always nice and very approachable. HW graded on effort! Tests are open book. You're an idiot if you don't get an A!
Boring class but she's ok.
Perry is fair. She's not particularly nice or mean, just fair. BUT it doesn't matter how many times you go to her office or if she happens to remember your name, she won't help you when it comes to the final grades. She'll help with homework, but for labs just go to the TA, and for the project, she's useless. Have fun
Going to cqs112 is like going back to high school...HOMEWORK every class. some weeks you have homeworks due twice, quiz and lab due friday, and then a journal. Quite Hard.
A week of CQS112 may consist of 1 quiz, 1 essay, 2 homework assignments, and a lab assignment (Many aspects of the course is busy work, ESPECIALLY the essays that make you waste 2 hours of your time). MATH147 consists of 3 tests the whole semester. You make the decision
not willing to help
Way too much busy work. Each week, there are 3-4 assignments due ranging for tests, labs, essays, and homework
I am taking 4 classes now. 3 of them are 300 and 400 levels Finance and Marketing classes. This class has the most work. For example, in order to do well in a 400-level finance course, you have to get good grades on 3 tests. In CQS, in order to do well you need to get good grades on 6 quizzes, 1 CUMULATIVE test, 1 project, ATTENDENCE COUNTED al
I am a senior and about to graduate. After MGMT411, CQS112 was my lowest grade. The amount of work is ridiculous. I devoted 3 nights a week to that stats class. Your grade is based on 30 homework assignments, 6 quizzes, 1 final, 1 huge project, 6 labs, participation, and attendance (she deducts points if u miss!) this is def one of the hardest for
I took her CQS112 and it was a really easy class. I don't know how much she changed the format of the course. Yes, it makes us feel like going back to high school, but her tests are hell easy and HW is a piece of cake. Each hw has 2-3 prob which doesn't take more than 20 min to do. Her grading is 1000 points scale, and I got 983 out of 1000.
She gave out terrible amount of questions during the exam. Even though she knew the exam has only 60 mins, she purposely takes 5 to 10 mins to explain the exam rules. So even the smartest people still couldn't complete the exam in 50 mins. She can existing at SOM and not getting layoff is because she is so "smart", marry with Brian Perry!!!!!!!!!!!
WORK! WORK! WORK! Get ready to devote a lot of time to this class... Not easy to get B+ or higher.
Dont be fooled by the open book tests...
average for final was 77 and there was no curve! what!
I took OPM 311 and it was easier. The first two test and project were a easy. The final project and test were graded really harshly and I went from an A to a B. I guess my advice is to stay sharp and don't get lazy. Problem in her tests you encounter is that you spend too much time on one problem and not enough on the others running out of time
There was just way too much work in this class. The workload and difficulty to get an A is probably equivalent to a 300- leveled class
The class is much better than her CQS class, but again...you need to work your ass off to get B+ or higher. The Final Exam is ridiculous....She gives you a 6-page case study, where you have to "predict" what types of questions she will ask you. If you want a B, take it...if u want B+ or higher, don't take it...it is hard
Also took CQS112. Makes both classes much harder than they need to be; JUST changed the OPM final format to make it 100x harder than previous semesters. Is, though, extremely helpful to students who go even remotely out of their way to learn. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. Attendance not mandatory, but you WILL fail the class if you don't go. Tons o math.
Horrible Professor. Doesn't know how to teach. and doesn't know what she is doing
I can't believe that she is that crazy.what is her problem? i missed at least 25% questions on final , so hard.the craziness of her final is all about the whole book.she said 70%of class r on A range be4 the final. She intended to make the final hard, so she could bring down the grades.what is the point of being a teacher just to fail students?
Good professor. Took both CQS112 and MIS311 with her. Her class is challenging and you are in a constant studying mode. She teaches whatever she knows, and if you want to learn some real things instead of an easy A, take her. You will apppreciate it.
The tests are open book, so studying is not a must. However, there are labs and homework assignments. I forgot to do one of the homeworks and it cost me half a letter grade. A lot to keep track of but still easier then most classes.
Take her if you want to learn something, a lot of tests and studying necessary. Must go to class everyday as well. Not an easy A, take Sebuhara for an easy A
This class was an easy A. Perry is extremely clear on what she expects from her students, and the tests were all open book and not difficult. She gives a lot of homework, but each assignment is only one or two problems. Possibly the best teacher I've had at Binghamton.
Extremely fair- Tests are open book so it's key to study smart, not hard. Homeworks are due almost every lecture, but they just help you and keep you up-to-date. Labs are a pain, but easy. Go to class! Ppts aren't even that important, it's the sample problems that are imperative. Textbook isn't really necessary, just print out the charts!
Extremely fair and clear about expectations. She gives you plenty of practice problems and the tests are open book, so you almost always have a problem that is very similar to the one you've already solved in class.
Dont take this class if you haven't already taken pre-calc. Expects you to know most of the material, frequently skips steps and makes errors, but if you correct her you get extra points. Good professor though, grading is fair and she is very nice and helpful
Don't take this. Take regular calc. Too confusing. She hasn't been teaching calc long enough to help you out, but she does try.
The material itself is hard but she is easily approachable as she uses IM. Textbook is mandatory as you need to bring it to class everyday. She sometimes make mistakes, which would confuse everyone. If you are good at math, take this class. But don't expect this class to be easy.
A lot of people have mixed feelings about her. You have to earn your grade. Go to every class and copy every example. Do every homework and it will pad your grade nicely. Organize your notes for the open book tests and you will be FINE. Tests are straightforward, you just have to know your stuff and be well prepared.
Mrs Perry is a nice calculus professor. She gives out many examples in each section to sharpen our skills. It gets harder during the weeks of the semester. I recommend to stop by at her office hours for extra help if you do not get a section of the math book.
Avoid taking business calc with perry at all costs, unless you have taken calculus in high school. She is absolutely terrible. She is incapable of solving a problem on the board without making a mistake, she could care less that the class average on each test is below a 70, and is simply does not understand the concept of teaching.
Professor Perry is new to teaching Calc II at BU, however she is a great professor. She definitely knows her stuff and is actually interested in Calculus, and has fun with it. With enough study outside of the class in addition to attending lecture, everything that is Calc II should be pretty clear.
I took both Calculus I and II with Ms. Perry and she really helped me a lot. She knows the material well. Calculus II itself is really hard and you have to keep working on it every day. Ms. Perry will definitely help you understand the concepts of Calculus II. If you have to take Calculus II, then taking her class is highly recommended.
Definitely do the homework and make sure you understand it all on your own because she does not go over anything in class. The tests are extremely hard but her sections supposedly have a higher average. She gives one example of a problem and then lets you go on your own to finish it, makes it hard to understand the concept at first.
This was a tough class. But her teaching was clear and she was always able to help you if you had questions. Definitely do her homework because it counts as a grade, but it'll also help you in the long run. There was a short quiz each week and her tests were usually quite difficult that it seemed impossible. But she's a nice lady with a geeky humor
Avoid like the plague.
Calc 2 itself may be a little challenging, but she tries to keep it entertaining and tends to let class out a few minutes early. She also doesn't put tricks on tests and it's all straightforward.
Teacher knows what she is talking about but does not really explain herself. If you plan on talking Business Calc take it with Brewster, she knows what she is talking about and her examples and explanations are much more better.
if you plan to take calc2, you should definitely pick her! i like her a lot because her examples given in class is helpful and comprehensive. you can always email her asking questions and she would illustrate the answer in detail! homework is kinda mandatory since she will record how many times every student hand it in.
the tests have things that she didn't even go over. don't take it with her. as brilliant as she might be, she is not a good teacher
Calc 2 is probably the hardest class in bing. However, taking it with her makes it more manageable. She's a former engineer so she relates to students really well. IF YOU WANT TO DO WELL TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER...HER SECTIONS ALWAYS DO BETTER ON THE TEST and shes way better than any stuffy Phd student
Really helpful professor when it comes to 222. Explained everything on the tests thoroughly, I reccommend taking her class.
Took business calc with her. Its calc so its hard. Lecture pace is extremely fast. So much material. 5 tests and homework every week. Final exam is death. Go to her office hours. She is so helpful in person its not even real. She will have you doing derivatives in seconds in her office hours. The most helpful office hours professor i have ever had
Professor Perry explain the class very well , she prepares every class carefully. and she responds to any questions come up during the class to help solve the confusion. She answered your email very fast. As long as you keep up her speed you will be ok.
Prof. Perry was outstanding for linear. Not only did she explain everything extremely well and make sure everyone in the class understood the concepts, but her tests were easier than other sections so it was a win/win! She's extremely straightforward with her questions, so if you just do HW to make sure you get the concepts, you'll be all set!
Perry is a decent teacher. She can get you through Calc 2 if you are dreading it. The midterms and finals are made up by a course coordinator, but her tests are fair. If you are a math major or have an interest in Calc, I'd take it with someone else.
I took Calc 1 in high school and this still was a hard class. DO THE HOMEWORK!! I made the mistake of thinking i could get by w/o it. Go to class every day and study a lot for the weekly quizzes/tests. The final is the hardest test i have ever taken: it has at least 3 times the questions of the regular tests, but gives u only 30 extra min.
Good teacher overall, very enthusiastic in giving advice. Explanations in class are usually clear though she does make a lot of mistakes while writing on the board. Very fair grading. Her tests are easier than the midterm and final. Recommended for Calc II. She seems to care very much about her job, and that's what counts the most.
She is one of the best math professor I ever met. Her lecture was clear and in details. Also, she gave you the sample tests and quizzes which were very helpful for your test. Love this course!
The classes is kind of hard but she is very helpful she puts up her test and quizzes from the last semester which are very helpful if you can take calc pass/fail take it with her you wont have to do too much work and you will pass the class
Great professor! Very fast grader, loves to teach. intelligent. brilliant. attendance not mandatory but DONT miss class- you get lost easily. definitely not an easy A but if you work extremely hard you can get it. No extra credit EVER (she stresses that), grades are raw score. Quizzes every week, not hard at al though. tests are pretty difficult :)
Old School Professor. No EXTRA CREDIT. Quiz or Test every week. Quizzes are doable. Tests are difficult. The final was extremely difficult, and I'm Asian. Go to every class. If you want that A you better spend a lot of hours studying. Don't ever let your guard down.
Great teacher. Does many concrete examples. Uses textbook for questions in lecture. Makes math theorems practical and explains the intuition behind them. Not many formal proofs in this class. Homework was suggested. Quizzes and tests straight forward, similar to class work and homework. She encourages students to ask questions and send her emails.
Taking calc three with her was a challenge for me personally. She is a good teacher and I felt like I learned the material well, but the test seemed a lot harder then the work we had been doing in class. Overall, I would still recommend her. She is a good teacher and is always willing to help her students.
She was a fantastic teacher, who really knew her material. She presents relevant and interesting applications to what she's teaching for both math majors and engineers. She is clear in what she is teaching and what she expects from you in class. She does grade hard, but she prepares you well. Do what she says and you'll do fine.
Best Calc 3 prof. 3 tests ,7 quizzes(2 quizzes dropped). Her website connected to blackboard is awesome. Has all the topic videos and old tests. Put in bout 6 hours of effort for each test for learning the material. And another 10 hours for practicing questions. Go to her class its worth it, you'll actually learn. Very helpful if you ask for help.
Amazing professor! Obviously Calc classes are difficult especially Calc3 but she really enjoys helping her students. She will call you out for not paying attention but only because she wants you to learn. Material can be boring but watch the videos she post before going to lecture and review old quizzes and tests she gives you and you'll be fine
Professor Perry is definitely a tougher grader than the other Calc 3 teachers at Binghamton and her class won't be an easy A. She puts a lot of work into helping students with her website, which is extremely useful when studying for tests. Sometimes when she explains concepts in class, she can be unclear. Overall, she's not great but not bad either
Knows what she's talking about and genuinely cares
You honestly have not gone to Binghamton if you have not taken a class with Prof. Perry. She is one of the most knowledgable, helpful, kindest, and sweetest teachers here. She's very thorough in her lessons and always answers questions students may have. She is definitely one of the best math teachers here too. It's too bad she's retiring.
Very tough course. She is a good teacher tho, but you have to go to office hours if don't understand something. Her website is extremely helpful and she is there if you need her. No homework is assigned so you MUST keep up with practice problems or you will fall behind.
