Okay, I guess. Needs to be easier on us undergrads and harder on the graduates.
Willing to help, clarify , and explain. Loves what she does.
She is really hard but does really care about what she does and is always happy
Awesome teacher! always willing to help out, class is a little hard though
Excited about the subjects, but can be confusing at times. Easy grader!!!
very nice lady willing to help you, she can get confusing at times but just part
This class is tough, but you can do fine as long as you go to all of the classes.
Her excitement will rub off on you. I enjoyed the class.
She is SOO excited about what she does and is super sweet. Definately reccomend.
She is very enthusiastic and that rubs off. She has so much information to cover that you come out of her lectures feeling your brain is fried but that you have learned a lot. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you are interested in the Greco/Roman world.
She is very cute, and the class was a great experience. She was very helpful, but does a good job of evening my opinion by being a very intimidating grader. The class is all lecture on the readings, slides, blackboard group work, essay tests and two ess
Infectious professor, she is by far one of the best instructors I have ever taken. All teachers could learn a thing or two from her about teaching. She is young, bright and loves her subject matter, class is tough, plan to do A LOT!NOT an easy A!
This professor is an example for others at sdsu. She is organized, prepared, extremely knowledgable and caring. This is not an easy A but you WILL pass the history part of the cset after taking it. Well worth the effort! I highly rec. any of her classes
The best teacher I've ever had. I've never met anyone who cares so much about us succeeding. I would take every single class from her if I could. So prepared, so helpful, and so incredibly smart!
WOnderful teacher! loves what she teaches and is very helpful. I recommend her for this class...
Hard class, but a great teacher. If you like ancient Greece you'll love this class.
What a teacher is supposed to be.
I had Pollard for Ancient Roman history two years ago so I decided to take her Ancient Greece course. She's a true definition of a teacher; someone who gives a darn about her students and their success. It's clear that she enjoys what she does rather than the $$$ and the employee benefits.
Not a class for the faint of heart but you will leave knowing so much more about history than before. It's a lot of work but Pollard is extremely helpful and her enthusiasm for history is infective. She is so sweet, smart, and organized. Not an easy class, but worth the effort.
Great teacher, really teaches unlike most history teachers at SDSU. Not easy, but class is interesting and you leave her class smarter. For 502 there is a paper, one test, and a final. These are not easy but if you study what she says you can get an easy B. 400w is hard but fun.
I loved Pollard when I was a student, but once you are no longer one of her students she is cold and dosent care about you. She really jerked over quite a few of us for graduate letters of req and I think that sucks! Too bad, I really liked her.I think it is bad that she treats ex students so poorly
A lot of busy work. I thought I would learn a lot more than I did.
Think it was an off semester for Pollard but this class was horrible. So boring and so much reading that was unrelated to anything. Usually she is great and her classes are fun but this one was really awful...hopefully she changes for next semester but if she doesn't: do not take this class.
Great teacher, easy B, hard A. Dr. Pollard is like the energizer bunny, she keeps boing and going.
very interesting and helpful, she can answer any question you have. anyone who doesnt like her classes must be too lazy to do any of the work, she will call on you if she thinks you arent doing the reading. i would take any class she was teaching again in a second, she renewed my faith in sdsu
Soooo much work to get done. It never stops coming at you. Knows her stuff well & is passionate about history. Soooo much work!!!
Her class is great! She got me so interested in Roman history! It totally changed my mind and I specialized in history because of her! It's a tough class but she's very articulate and well-versed in the material! A ++
Had her her first year, what a fun class. She was always willing to talk about anything history and anything else during her office hours.
There is a lot of papers, but if you follow Pollard's instuctions, like the length of the papers and using the right format, you will easily get a B on them and a B for the class. Fail to follow her instuction and your grade will suffer.
This class in general is lame but mandatory for us history majors. Dr. Pollard makes this class very interesting and thought provoking. It is very writing intensive and her questions really make you think. She is easily one of the best professors I have had at SDSU and am taking her 500 class next semester!!
Ancient history is NOT my thing, but Dr. Pollard's passion just infects you, and the class is fabulous and infinitely more interesting than I could've imagined. BEWARE: plenty of reading/writing; weigh your other coursework before taking this 500 level class. She is tremendously helpful and very accomodating. I LOVED IT!
Way too many readings. Many readings not talked about. Not enough time for the final research paper with all the multiple steps required and the peer group review on black board.Fine instructor.Good class could have been better.
Dedicated teacher, really interested in her subject. History isn't always taught truthfully. Dr. Pollard does her best to teach honestly. Her women and gender in Ancient Rome and Greece included material and sources that I and most in the class had never covered or heard of. I learned Ancient History is not just about men.
Smart lady. Knows her stuff. Alot of writing. Alot of reading.
Enthusiastic about greek history. Knows her field of study well. Cares about her students. Very helpful. Very clear. There are many readings that you will be responsible for on quizes... I did half of them and got an A on the quiz portion of the class. Three large papers. No tests (only about 12 quizes)... Challenging A but still possible.
Hist of Ancient Greece was a super fun class! There are a couple books you need for the pop quizzes (only about 12-13, of which 10 are graded). Three large scaffolded papers using ancient historians, current scholarship and pop culture. Difficult A, but I took this class cr/nc just for fun and got a B+. Pollard is a gr8 prof, congrats on the baby!
This professor is outstanding! She is very knowledgeable, very helpful, and she really cares about her students. She really makes her students work hard, so don't take her class if you are a lazy slacker.
Prof Pollard is a great teacher! YOU MUST GO TO CLASS! But her lectures are really intresting- you can follow along w/o doing the readings. She understands that students have a life outside class. Really nice. Easy Grader. She is so passionate.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken! Pollard is great. She's knowledgable, and a really good teacher but this was too much work. 100 pages of reading/weak, ten 3 page papers, one 7 page book review, one 20 page research paper, and 2 in class power point presentations. I learned a lot but it was more work than any 2 classes put together.
great teacher. Loves teaching and it shows. Most amount of work ever, but you will come out a better student on the other side. Easy to work with, really cares about her students. Oh yeah and she is also brilliant.
Great teacher! She really kept my interest up in the class. However you really have to work for this class!! There is 100+ reading every week with two major papers that aren't bad because you can pick your own topic. I will take her class again!
AMAZING professor. So helpful and willing to be flexible. Very interested in her subject, which makes you interested in the class.
Ancient Greece: Pollard is an outstanding professor who works very hard to help every student and to teach them as much as possible. She teaches each student everything they can learn about the class, as well as what it will take to graduate, both as an undergraduate and as a graduate student. The knowledge that she has is amazing.
Literally the worst professor in the entire world. tons of useless assignments, tedious, awful lectures, huge paper due in november that professor hasnt even addressed. DO NOT TAKE
1 pagers every week, 10% of your grade is a primary source analysis in Nov, 2 major map quizzes, 1 semi-difficult midterm, and 1 final. Pollard is chill, like I could see myself hanging with her but god, she puts everyone to sleep. She has her TAs walk around and nark on u if your on facebook too. Good class just super annoying at times.
just don't take this class. i promise you will regret it. the tests are impossible and you learn nothing. i'm sitting in this class right now and i want to walk out. nobody ever learns anything, and she expects you to be truly interested and all knowing of her subject even when she knows nobody wants to be here and it's a GE. waste of time.
She knows history really well and think everyone cares as much as she does about it. Terrible teacher for a GE class. The amount of work is pretty ridiculous too. She usually wastes the first 10 minutes of class talking about clickers and another 10 minutes on some tangent, then has to cram all her teaching in the last 5 minutes. Do not take
Horrible class. upper division level in difficulty. Awful research paper due the day you return from Thanksgiving break. Basically she is a life ruiner and has the most pointless lectures about Mesopotamia and other pointless topics that essentially do not matter in the broad scheme of things. DO NOT TAKE this class, it is HELL
This class is awesome. It's a lot of hard work, but that made me want to work even harder. Dr. Pollard is engaging and smart. Keenan my TA was good too and really hot.
This class is a lot of work for a GE. 2 HUGE Tests, which consist of a timeline, 15 multiple choice and two 3 page essays. There is also a one pager every week which isn't hard but its time consuming. There is also a 5 page primary source analysis and you have to to go to class to get clicker points. Overall, its a very hard class
This class was friggin hard. the lectures were friggin boring, and my ta was friggin anal about stuff. The one pagers are not hard, but take a friggin long time to do. the tests are friggin hard, the final is also friggin hard. I ended up with a decent grade, but i worked my ass off. i DONT recommend this class. its too hard for a ge, 100 level cla
Awesome Professor! Not an easy class but if you're a History Major she def preps you for upper division. Lot's of energy during lectures and tons on knowledge. I was comfortable asking questions, Just thought my TA (who ultimately decides your grade) was a little over zealous.
If you want to take her in a lecture of 500, don't! Way too much work for a 100 level course. She has a midterm and a final which are very difficult consisting of the hardest MC, timeline & essay! Expects you to write a big paper. You definitely have to learn dates and locations. I managed a B and I still don't know how. Try to take Jason as a TA.
Very nice and excited about history. Pretty clear. BIG work load though! One pagers every week. Study guide for the midterm and final is extremely overwhelming - expects you to know EVERY SINGLE THING when only very few of what you learned are on the tests. Don't take this if you're looking for something easy.. because it's not!
She is a really nice professor, and really passionate about history. The class itself is challenging with a huge work load. Like people have said, one pagers every week, and the chapters in the book are really long. The 2 major tests are hard, but not impossible to do well on. Depending on th TA, the class can be alright. I recommend Joe Bickley :)
Larger lecture of 500 people. TA's everywhere. We are allowed to use laptops as a tool. Pollard takes like ten or more minutes on each powerpoint slide. I recommend Joel as TA. Two HARD exams which affects your grade. Luckily, she gave us study guides but find the answers by yourself. Pollard has passion in history and do your best!
hate this class. wouldn't recommend at all!
This class was harder than any lower division ge should be!
Time consuming class with one pagers every week, two map quizzes, a paper, and two exams. Not impossible, but you definitely need to stay on top of your work. Go to class since you get clicker points.
STAY AWAY! This course may sound like a breeze but it definitely IS NOT. One-pagers every week, 2map quizzes, 5 page paper due after thanksgiving break, and tests are nearly impossible! Try to take something else for a ge!
Do not take this class. She's a good teacher, but expects WAYYYY too much for a 100 level course. The type of work done in this class should be intended for history majors, not just a general ed class. Papers every week, extremely hard tests, one huge paper that basically has the expectations of someone in grad school! Plus, the TA's grade harsh!
Terrible course. As a senior I have never had such a strenuous course. TA's graded way to hard for a 100 level and were no help in office hours. AVOID THIS CLASS.
Awesome Prof who cares a lot and works hard to ensure students succeed, IF they try and work hard! She is always available to help! Even late at night sometimes! The class is very hard, yes, and has lots of work, yes, BUT THIS IS COLLEGE not middle school! Learned a ton. Interesting stories. My TA was awesome, and my friends all liked their TAs too
Great Prof. Very helpful on email, office and blackboard. TONS of work! LOTS of reading! Overall, expect to work like 8-12 hours per week on this class, but its pretty interesting if you like history, and you can get a good grade if you come to class and do all the work and ask questions.
Great Prof. Very helpful on email, office and blackboard. TONS of work! LOTS of reading! Overall, expect to work like 8-12 hours per week on this class if you want an A, but its pretty interesting if you like history, and you can get a good grade if you come to class and do all the work and ask questions.
Trust me when I say DO NOT take this class. Tons of work that takes for ever and tests are so outrageously hard. Should not be a 100 class more like a graduate level. Professor super nice and passionate about history but for someone who doesn't have an interest in history...not good.
If you are not interested in history, DO NOT under any circumstances take this class. Unbelievable amount of busy work, and attendance taken with clickers each class. Pollard is extremely approachable and responsive- great lady, but the class was almost unbearable. Too broad of a class.
DO NOT choose mondays for small section. If you do, you will have your 5-7 page analysis AND a map quiz on the same day. I thought it'd be smart to get class over with on monday, but Pollard goes over the notes for the one-pagers on mondays, which means we had to sit through an entire large lecture with information we already had submitted. STUPID
She is a very poor teacher. she goes over 2 slides in first 40 minutes and 15 in last 10. references way to many movies. easy to get a decent grade in with lots of EC but super boring even to my hist major friends. avoid if possible if not don't worry your grades won't suffer just your sanity.
all the ppl complaining about pollard are lazy. i got an A and i didnt even read come on now. put the study guide on google docs and share the work with the class then study that. so much EC too! just go to class dont read
She is extremely knowledgeable &passionate of her material. One pagers every week, but EVERYTHING she discusses is somehow intertwined in the exams. I learned a lot in her class, but it IS work.
Study guides for test cover everything. There is also 2 map quizzes that have study guides for them as well. Weekly writing assignment but overall the stuff that matter are easy.
Fun,nice & caring Prof: includes videos/music/pics/stories, etc. Gives study guides before the tests! Gives extra credit too. Use the TA for extra help, but Pollard is also around to help (and gives answers if you ask!). Overall, good class. Fairly hard and lots o work, but worth it. Didn't like history till this class, and I learned a lot.
She is really passionate about history. Although this class seems hard for an 100 level class, if you do the work it is not that bad and she gives lots of extra credit. She also does clicker questions which is a way to get easy points just by attending class. And for tests she puts everything you need to know on the study guide for you.
awesome
Awesome teacher! I hate history with a passion and I actually enjoyed her class. It is obvious she knows and cares a lot about history. She tries to make lectures interesting and even remembered my name in a class of 500 people! I would definitely recommend her.
This was the most boring class I have taken so far at SDSU. Although she is passionate about the subject matter there was not one moment when I felt the same. Her study guides for the exams were extremely long, making the tests overwhelming. (If you DO end up in this course? at least the essays and quizzes are easy. Boring, but easy.)
Wow!Pollard is a GEM, arguably the most brilliant professor i have ever had the pleasure of knowing, and is not a bit conceited about it. Her knowledge on Ancient Rome is VAST and inspiring. She is constantly accessible to students, personally, and in answering emails or BB postings, answering emails etc. A true asset to the history dept and students
professor pollard is AMAZING. she is so silly and funny and just a wonderful professor. she knows her information PERFECTLY, it's almost unbelievable. i've taken her twice and do not regret it. she is so extremely personable , it's great. she's brilliant. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!! :)
I made sure to blaze it right before going to this class. It's not like I really learned that much she spits out so many facts that it's kind of impossible. Besides that fairly easy class. I studied the day before the tests and got a solid B. What do I care I'm an engineer har har har.
shes super enthusiastic and loves her subject. too bad i hated it by the end. lectures were pretty boring imo. i hated studying for this class more than any other class, and only had basic knowledge of material, yet somehow i got As on every midterm. 97% on one of them! so ya, i guess the tests are easy. shes a great lady but her class is boring...
This class seemed super easy and then it got really hard. You have to do 2 in class essays and then one outside essay on the weirdest subjects. Then also theres the midterm and the final which were long and had a lot of information packed into them. Pick a different class
Pollard is super funny but she teaches way to fast. She just throws so much material at the students and doesn't give them enough time to retain it. I never did the reading because it was just too overwhelming for me. I would say that attendance is mandatory if you want to stay up to pace in the class. Its very easy to fall behind
not a good 100 class, dont take if you dont have to. Shes willing to help in a way she overloads u in info. Failed the midterm, got a B in the final and did all the extra credit got a B in the class. Does clicker points, I missed 6 times and when i went to class never listened. Crammed for tests and studied all possible SBT prompts. Hard 100 class
Prof Pollard is a professor that is very enthusiastic about what she teaches. Her large lectures are very interesting and she's one of the better lecturers I've had. It is a bit hard for a 100 class so if you don't have to take it for a GE I would stay away. My only qualm is that it's a lot of information to take in and it can be overwhelming
I don't recommend taking this class unless you have to. I thought I would enjoy it because I love history but that is not the case. Her powerpoints are terrible, the study guides are overwhelming, and this class is simply way too difficult for a 100 class.
Professor Pollard is ok its just the power points that are confusing along with lecture talks most of the time I recommend if taking this class take it with another professor. Clicker points do help also twitter for extra credit she then makes you write about using twitter in class
She is energetic and you can tell she loves what she teaches. This class sparked an interest in history for me. I went to her office hours once and she was very friendly and helpful.
Great teacher who obviously LOVES history. She is extremely energetic so don't be surprised when she runs around the classroom. The tests consist of multiple choice and a source based thesis (SBT = history's version of a timed writing). The course covers everything from homosapiens to the Roman Empire to the European Renaissance. Good luck!
If you are an incoming freshman, have never taken a lecture class, or don't know how to write and SBT - DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH POLLARD. I failed this class even though I showed up very class, did clicker points, and took the tests. This class is kind of hard and she is confusing and all over the place. I would not recommend her
By far the BEST teacher in the history dept! Her enthusiasm and knowledge about Rome is inspiring and makes for a fun class. Very approachable and helpful. Weekly readings can be a lot but aren't discussed much so you can prob ignore. 2 papers and in-class mid-term & final. She covers A LOT of material, so take good notes & you can get an A!
She is sort of confusing. Missed some classes but info was cleared up by TA in weekly small meeting. Over all pretty low stress
will be amazed at the first day of the class by the Professor she's very knowledge and amazing Professor, however, as soon as the test come up and you see the first tests you're going to change your mind, especially the SBT test which is not supposed to be in 100 level class!! Simply do not take this class unless if it's the last option
Okay. So I am someone who absolutely HATES going to class. I'd rather lay in bed and watch movies and just read the book on my own time. However, this class basically needs you to go for participation points. But Pollard is so energetic and fun it's awesome. There isn't much to be graded but she gives study guides and SO much E.C. I love her!
Ok. She's passionate about her subject that is for sure. But! I don't think she understands what 100 level class means!!!! 2 SBTs??? Are you serious?? You have to use 10 sources (the one she gives you- texts, pic of statues, artwork) for your 2nd SBT; you have to analyze them with the historical context, region, and etc. Please! By NO means easy...
Fantastic speaker! She is so engaging and excited about history, it's hard not to get excited too. It's really obvious how invested she is in the subject, she even sends weekly review emails, which are a huge help. The SBTs are definitely a curveball, start early and do your research. Brush up on your timed writing skills before the midterm.
Prof. Pollard is so passionate about history. She gets so excited when she teaches. 2 exams, 3 SBTs, & clicker points. Her tests are a bit hard and the SBTs are hard too. She gives you options on the study guide and chooses one for the test, so study each prompt. Offers a ton of extra credit. She's extrememly helpful, but NOT an easy class.
You have to show up for class for the clicker points, but the lectures are interesting. She is very passionate about history, and she teaches with enthusiasm. There are 2 exams, 2 essays, and a take home essay so there is work involved. There is extra credit to help your grade.
Super excited about history. Definitely need the book for small section. TAs grade your sbtessays so get a good one. Tests are pretty easy and there's only two. Lots of history and so little time.
By far the BEST teacher in the history dept! Her enthusiasm and knowledge about Rome is inspiring and makes for a fun class. Very approachable and helpful. Can be challenging at times because of all the information, but totally worth it. Meet with her for office hours and she will help for tests! Highly recommend taking this course
I absolutely loved her! She is so passionate and knowledgeable about the subject! She is adorable and loves to talk about history. The extra credit lectures and museum visits are a good cushion for your grade. The midterm is quite hard with multiple choice and an essay but the final multiple choice is easier, just do the study guide.
In awe of this woman. Without a doubt the most genuine, intelligent women on this planet. She really does care about each of her students and LOVES when you share a passion with her. She tries to get to know you on a personal level as well and I admire her for that. That alone is a reason to take her class. Interesting lectures, few essays, great.
DO NOT EXPECT THIS CLASS TO BE AN EASY A. If you are taking this with other hard classes, get ready for a full workload. There isn't much hw, but come tests, you find yourself making 500 notecards from a book that she wrote that has no index. On top of that you have to study four different SBT essays per exam. Do not recommend this class.
Pr. Pollard is a veeeeeeery hilarious teacher! She makes jokes all over the place and that makes her class extremely enjoyable. She is very knowledgable about her subject and she teaches with passion and desire to help the students to understand better about confusing history topics. I definitely would take her again! 5 star
I LOVED THIS CLASS. Do not take this expecting an easy A. It was a difficult course but she made it so interesting and enjoyable because of her passion for history. I mean, she WROTE the textbook. I really look up to her and I'm glad that I had such a great semester. Study for the tests using her study guides, get clicker points, and you'll do fine
Most difficult class I have ever taken in my own major, WAY harder than any upper division history class I experienced. She treats an intro level class like a grad school course, absolutely unnecessary and unreasonable. Only HIST class that made me consider dropping out. Nice lady and passionate about her subject, but shouldn't be teaching intro.
Lectures are interesting and and all you need for the tests. She is friendly and does a good job of making a pretty boring subject exciting.
She's awesome. I really have no idea what people are talking about when they say this course is extremely difficult. She offers FIFTY points of Ec! do it!! And you get clicker points, so show up to class. She does a great job at making history actually fun and interesting (and i'm a science major). Just study hard for the tests! Great GE class
She's nice and spunky, not terrible, but she talks a lot and expects you to learn a lot of unnecessary, specific information. She expects a lot of reading. Breakout section is also mandatory. There will be a clicker question pretty much every single class. Overall really boring. If you already don't like history, this class won't help.
The only reason I got a B+ in this class was because I was lazy. She gives at least 50 extra credit points that you have to work for, but if you need it, it's there. She's a genuinely sweet and caring professor, which is why I felt bad that I didn't try harder in her class. Not necessarily an easy A, but with little effort its definitely possible
Pollard cares a lot about her students success. I actually learned so much in this class and it was quite fun to take. Pollard was always in her office and I went to see her for her office hours multiple times for essay help which helped my grades so I recommend that you see her for essay help.
Lectures start with a song most times in relation to the theme. Her lectures all have a specific theme, in relation to one bigger theme. Has extra credit opportunities, her TA's are very helpful. There is a mid-term, final and an essay, your grade depends on attendece so go to class and section. SHe is very passionate about history.
She has very enthusiastic lectures and is pretty funny! Loves her job, her students and wants all of her students to get good grades. Material is not too hard, flash cards will help you on the midterm/final. Attendance IS A MUST. Two MC & essay tests and a take home essay. Weekly HW that is a 100% when completed. Offers 5% of grade in extra credit
Pollard was one of my favorite professors I've had at SDSU. She is extremely passionate about the subject and wants her students to succeed. She's willing to answer any questions in her office hours and via email. She gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. Used Inquizitive for HW and iClicker for participation. There's small section too.
I would say the first day of class is intimidating there are so many people, so seats may be difficult to find at first. Prof. Pollard is very passionate about history and it is shown through her large lecture, be sure to show up as much as possible (points add up) and go to section. Do the extra credit and HW because it helps in the end.
Great passionate teacher even in a boring subject like history. The TAs grade the midterm & final which each include a Source Based Thesis (SBT) essay & then an outside SBT. The outside one 6-8 pages & difficult. The TAs basically make or break your grade. Clicker pts. every class so go. Inquisitive HW every week which is a frustrating website.
Very caring teacher and will be available to help you at any moment. A lot of extra credit opportunities so definitely take advantage pf that. Weekly inquizitives, 1 midterm (multiple choice and SBT) and a final (multiple choice and SBT; non cumulative), a take-home SBT. Try to get a good TA because section makes up a big chunk of your grade.
The lectures are the best part of the class. Just show up to the break outs, even though you won't want to because of all the tedious in-class writing assignments, and you'll set yourself up for a good grade.
This is an awesome teacher! I came to the class hoping to pass cause i am not very good in history... But her lectures are so interesting and fun that it made me succeed! she makes the information very memorable while teaching, so I really do recommend to go to lecture, it gives you all the exam answers if you write notes down!
Prof Pollard is a great teacher, even if you hate history she tries her best to make it fun for everyone and presents important information. Attendance is important, since she uses clickers which give you points therefore it is totally a bonus. If you decide to take this class TAKE THE EXTRA CREDIT opportunities. You'll pass if she sees you try
Professor Pollard is very kind and wants all her students to succeed. STUDY GUIDES ARE KEY TO GETTING A GOOD GRADE. Larger class equals no written response questions. Pay attention in class and you will get a good grade. She goes more in depth than needed. Overall great professor strongly suggest to take. 2 MC tests and two at home essays.
Pollard is a passionate professor who gives her students all the necessities to do well. I wish I could have her again! She offers detailed study guides for all 3 exams, plenty of extra credit(DO IT), and helpful guidelines for the 2 essays she assigns. Overall, if you attend class and she see's you putting effort, you will do well in her class.
Shes really nice and helpful knows what shes talking about tests are straight forward from lectures and reading. There was 2 midterms and a final that wasnt cumulative and 2 , 4ish page writing, writings were a bit difficult because she gives a template and says if you copy the template its a C and i didnt copy the template still got a C
If you have to take Hist100, definitely take her class! She is a great lecturer and actually makes the material interesting and fun to learn. Weekly hw, 3 tests (final isn't cumulative), and 2 papers. She offers 10% of your grade's worth of extra credit and is very accessible out of class. Do what you can to take her class!
She is extremely passionate about what she teaches and getting to know each student. Attendance is mandatory by clickers but she drops like half of them at end of semester. Weekly itnquizitives for homework, only 2 papers which she outlines almost entirely for you and chooses the sources as well. 3 tests, no cumulative final, overall learned a lot
She is a passionate lecturer and makes history fun. Very doable GE, easy online HW, clicker required, and lots of extra credit options. Class only has 2 papers to write and specific options to write about. Her lectures are the most helpful and what the exam is focuses on.
You write 2 papers and you have inquisitive every week. It's a class out of 1000 points and she offers A LOT (5% worth) of extra credit so use that to your advantage! 3 exams each on 4 chapters. Very doable GE. She uses clickers worth 10 points every class but only chooses 10/25 classes
Prof. Pollard has been the only teacher I have created a relationship with however the class was not easy at all. The homework assignments for me were impossible, I got 100% only because if you got the wrong answer enough, they eventually give you the answer. The two papers are not easy and the tests you have to study hard for.
History is a pretty heavy subject but she broke it down and really made sure everyone understood the material. Lectures are boring but you can tell she is really passionate. Tests are pretty difficult, there's 3 non cumulative and 2 essays. Lots of extra credit so take advantage of that! Super sweet lady.
the tests throughout the semester were really difficult for me. But as a professor, she was amazing. Really cares about you and a ton of extra credit opportunities to make up for those tests!
Pollard is amazing. She loves what she teaches and makes you like more than you think you will. Super helpful outside of class. Uses clickers for attendance, online homework, 3 tests and 2 essays (no cumulative final). You have to put in work to get a good grade: go to class, use her study guides, follow the essay rubrics and you'll do fine.
She is a really good professor who enjoys what she talks about. She has an extensive knowledge of ancient history, and explains it very well. She keeps the lectures interesting. There is weekly homework on InQuizitive. There are 2 papers and 3 exams, and she provides many extra credit opportunities to help your grade. Take her for world history!
The best GE professor an undergrad can have. Super easy assignments. There are inquizitives where you just keep answering questions until you get 100%. Tests are easy if you go to lecture, there are clicker points and 2 papers which she grades very generously. She's really passionate and relates every lecture to pop culture and makes it fun.
Definitely have to go to lectures b/c you have to get clicker questions right to get credit. You should pay attention to ALL of the lectures to understand things. Extremely content heavy. Need to know lots of info. Grades the papers very hard and is quite vague on what she is looking for. Would avoid this class if history is not your strong suit.
Great teacher who is clearly passionate about what she teaches. Clicker is mandatory for participation and attendance. Three exams and two papers. All are doable as long as you study well and ask her directly. She sets up discussions on Blackboard which make it easy to contact her if you don't feel like going to office hours.
Though the content can be dry, she is very enthusiastic about what she teaches and very approachable. Go to lectures for clicker points and pay attention, and you should be able to pick out the important things for the exams, which are rather easy. Two papers which are annoying but not terribly difficult. Offers 5% of your grade in EC, do it!
Thoroughly enjoyed Prof. Pollard's class, she is very passionate about what she teaches and it shows in her class. Get ready to read ALOT, but it is totally worth it. The digital humanities project is a lot of fun and it teaches you something that you can use in your career if you do any kind of presenting, especially great for future teachers!soci
LOVED this class! Very doable GE. Professor Pollard is a caring instructor who wants her students to succeed, she responds quickly to emails and is approachable in class. I thought the tests and two papers were pretty easy, make sure you do some extra credit just in case! Go to class because a lot of the clicker questions show up on the tests!
Very passionate and definitely wants you to pass, as long and you attend class and do the homework (all answers online) the tests and papers are easy AF. She gives up to 50 points EC so 5% of the class can be made up. You are at least guaranteed a B+ if you put minimum effort.
Prof Pollard is absolutely phenomenal! She knows everything there is to know about Roman history and teaches with passion. She is very sweet, understanding and patient. She truly wants you to do well and takes the time to know you. Her tests are a little too much handwriting but she is a very fair grader.
I took this class as a 6 week course online during the summer. I found it to be pretty easy. 2 Inquizitives a week with 1 writing prompt a week (700+words) & a test every 2 weeks. Also had 2 zoom sessions a week which were pre recorded & not mandatory to attend. Drops lowest write prom (4/5) lowest inquiztive (10/12) & drops lowest test score (2/3)
I took this class in the summer. 3 quizzes. 2 easy homework assignments a week -- easy to get 100% & a 19 question quiz every other week & a writing post each week. The quizzes are different, she would provide you with a passage and you would have to guess the theme of the passage, they were not bad. Nothing you needed to memorize or anything.
Gives 2 weekly inquizitives & 1 weekly writing prompt. The writing prompt is pretty simple, just takes skimming through the book in order to write about the prompt. Fair grader & gives good feedback. Exams every other week which were hard if you didn't read or watch her 2 hr online lectures which are boring. Do well on WP's & you will pass
2 essays. Inquisitive due every week. Clicker points every day!!! Gives extra credit but they require you to travel so not convenient. Non cumulative final. You can tell shes passionate but sometimes lectures do get boring and long
Professor Pollard is awesome! She's clear with her directions and is very organized. For the class, expect to read a lot of comics (FUN!!) and discussing them in class. Participate a lot since the class is discussion driven. You'll also be doing a lot of annotating and writing but she offers a lot of help and feedback. I really enjoyed the class!
Amazing professor and amazing person. Kind and understanding. Funny. Very specific prompt instructions. Difficult tests: multiple choice, choose all that apply, plus short response explaining your answers, then a 5 paragraph essay. Plus some other papers.
I took this class online in the summer before my freshman year, and it was super chill and fun. You just read comics and then write quick discussion boards about them. Would recommend
Took her Roman History HIST500. Lectures are mandatory, but you learn a lot by going. If you take good notes, the exam at the end is pretty easy. She gives very helpful instructions for writing papers, and she's available outside of class a lot if you have questions. She really loves what she teaches and you can definitely tell.
Fun, discussion-driven class on comics. Professor Pollard is clear and organized. Lots of reading and writing, but she provides great feedback. unstuck AI was super helpful for study prep.
The lack of timely grading and feedback until the last week left me guessing my grade and progress. With harsh grading and heavy workload, not knowing where I stood made the course frustrating and stressful. This lack of communication hurt my learning experience. Consistent, timely feedback is essential for student success. WOULD NOT take again
