She is so inconsistant and scatter brained. When she lectures, it is like you see her mouth moving but no words are coming out
if you can help it, do not take her class. she doesnt know what shes doing and none of her lectures make sense. she is always spelling things wrong and cannot explain what she writes on the board.
professor is extremely confusing, if you expect to learn chemistry, take another class!
This is the worst professor I have ever had. She can not teach at all, I don't even hink she understands what she is teaching. Avoid taking chemistry with her at all costs!!!!
If you do not know your chem already this class can be very hard. If you can avoid taking her, do it, because I'm sure there are easier classes and she just assumes you know a lot of stuff most people don't. But if you seek her out she is willing to do whatever she can to help.
She is worst as ever....whatever she speaks (basically she speaks so fast in class)a lot..whatever she teaches in class, not in the exam paper...like she will ask you the question which is sometime way far to relate to the points she taught.grades r fair, sometimes easy but boring to listen her for an hour and half, not recommended for average stude
Very smart woman. HOWEVER cannot teach for her life. I didn't understand anything she said EVER. If it werent for the HUGE curve no one would have passed. You're only hope if you have to take her is to talk to her one on one make a point to see her once a week she is better at teaching then.
A required course for many, you have to do the work, this professor is so smart she has a hard time bringing it down to a student level, if you have not had chemistry before this class, good luck. Fair grading system, nice person just a little nervous, will help in any way if you ask for it.One on one is best.
Prof Pollock is a really smart teacher. Yes, the subject is not the most clear all the time, but hey it's chemistry. If you have trouble, she'll help you out and explain the material-she is always available unless in class or lab. I had her for the food class too - a lot of work for a gnm, but if you do the work and talk in class, you'll be fine.
Pollock is SO smart, but she has a hard time explaining things to people who don't have a doctorate in chemistry already. Go to class everyday, because anything she says could be on the exam. GO to her study sessions. See her out of class. && STUDY REALLY hard for her exams! Never leave a question blank bc partial credit is your bff in this class.
Terrible. I honestly wish there was another professor teaching this than her. She favors students, fails to interact with her other students and knowing her exam averages are always in the 70's says something on how bad the class is doing as a whole.
Good chem professor. She is always willing to help, very understanding, and fair. Expects a lot from her students. Tries hard to explain everything clearly. She teaches well and makes the material a little more appealing. Assigns a lot of hard work but grades fairly. Unfortunately, she picks favorites among those that participate a lot in class.
Good teacher!!! Very hard Class! teaches it well!! Helps a lot!!
Professor Pollock is...kind of a difficult teacher. She doesn't teach very well, but tries to be very thorough. She tells you whats on the exams pretty much question for question. She curves if the class doesn't do well. I had to strain to get a B-. I would recommend using the book A LOT if you end up taking her.
This is the worst professor ever. I took chem in high school and got a better grade. she can't teach at all. not clear. did not understand her material.
Her class is hard but she is always open to help you. Go to her office whenever you need help. She's approachable.
You're not in High school anymore, and Pollcok deffiantly doesn't treat you like you are. She expects alot and will never change/alter anything to make it easier on you. If you can keep up you will learn so much though. As a person Pollock's easy to get along with. If you can bring yourself to work hard and try to understand rather than go through
I love Pollock. The tests are very hard, and the their is a lot of material. You need to memorize everything because she will not narrow whats on the test down. Rarely used the text book.
very hard but cant avoid her if your a nursing student. Study a lot!
Excepts a lot out of her students. Don't be afraid to ask questions she is very helpful. Its extremely helpful if you've taken an AP chemistry class before this class. A lot of studying involved. Exams can be challenging. Overall a great chemistry teacher
Pollock is really nice, and super approachable. she doesn't make you feel stupid if you ask stupid questions; she always answers. her class can be difficult if you don't show up. go to class, pay attention, and study. you may know the material but those tests aren't easy.
Awful class. If you can take another class - do it. Maybe she's decent in CHEM, but not distant classes. Graded unfairly. Expected a 15 page paper for a distance class. I have a 3.8 gpa, and struggled. Had high interest in the class PRIOR, but wished I never took it because of her.
She's really nice but the class is fairly difficult. You have to study and pay attention. Oh, and actually show up to class. But you can totally pass on your own if you keep up with the work. I personally didn't use the textbook either, but I did look a few things up a couple times.
show up to class! yes, its hard, but ask questions if you dont understand something. shes really good at explaining things if you tell her whats confusing you. for nursing students- she curves the final grades, which helps a lot. go to her for help, do the online hw, and youll be ok.
terrible teacher, can barely understand her and is little to no help. Doesn't have review sessions like most professors. All in all not a good class
Impossible class. I've never worked and tried so hard to receive a D. Not clear, not focused, relies on online homework system which doesn't even translate to exams. She TRIES to trick you on exam questions. I read chapters cover to cover and still couldn't keep up. I don't know what else I was supposed to do to keep up in this class. Awful..
She knows her stuff, but isn't the best at explaining. If you're struggling, go to office hours and she clarifies when you ask specific questions. She's nice and gives more partial credit when she knows you're trying. It's hard so do good in lab and sapling to bring up your grade.People don't do well on her tests so she curves the scores at the end
She isn't really the best at teaching. Our in-class projects/lectures did not help me understand assigned homework or the midterm. I did not truly gain any understanding of the subject material. She is a very sweet woman, but maybe shouldn't be teaching to non-biochemistry students.
Not bad for lab. Explains the experiment but isn't too lengthy, final is part practical part written. Very nice.
While the tests are tough, if you go to class, you should have no problems. She is such a nice professor and will help you if you ask for it. She answers all questions, and takes the time to go over things if you ask her to. Labs are sometimes challenging, but aren't impossible.
Coming into Stockton as a freshman in the Nursing program, I was freaking out. Everyone was saying Pollock was horrible, but once I began her class, I found that she is an amazing teacher. Goes out of her way to help in any way she can. Her tests are tough, but she is always there for help. Her humor makes lectures fun! Great professor! :)
This is kind of a tough course but she will go out of her way to hep you. Goes over material fairly well and she curves the exams too. Quiz every friday and wiley plus due every class so dont forget to do them
Tough class, but she's very helpful and considerate and insightful. Tests are tough, but you just have to study hard.
Extremely helpful, she really wants you to succeed. I have taken another chemistry professor for the same class and she makes everything so much easier to understand. Take this professor!
Pollock honestly is a good teacher; sometimes her choice of words can be confusing but she is very helpful when you ask her a question and is always available at her office. Out of every chemistry professor at Stockton, I'd say she is the best (considering what I've heard about the other ones.) I have her again for a 2nd semester and I'm glad.
Pollock is a great teacher if you make sure to pay attention in class and write everything down. The tests are based on understanding the subjects for both chem 1 and organic chem, so it's not just memorizing facts. She is very knowledgable and funny in class, too. Just be prepared to study hard!
This was my toughest class first semester of college. Her tests are very tough and there's a lot of information that she puts on there. There is no such thing as a study guide in this class so you have to know everything which is very overwhelming. However she is very approachable and you never feel dumb asking a question.
Tough grader, you really have to put your all into your lab reports. Helpful in the lab.
she won't give back points even if you deserve it. i don't like her at all. she's one of those smart teachers who doesn't show the students any mercy. she needs to go. did i mention i didn't like her? i'm an A student, but i'm getting D+ in her class. she sucks. the test doesn't even match the quiz or the homework. like what the heck?!
I've had Dr. Pollock for two Chem courses. Her power points aren't very good, but she's more than willing to answer questions. She's also very accessible outside of class and never makes you feel stupid for asking questions. She's a very tough grader, and her tests and quizzes are difficult but fair. Be prepared to work really hard if you want an A
I love professor Pollock, but I was frustrated about the amount of work in a 2 credit seminar class. Many of us taking this course are also taking difficult chem classes at the same time, and the last thing we needed was lots of papers that were graded toughly.
She is a lovely lady and will always help you. She just treats a 2 credit class like it is 4. The only complaint I have is that the class isn't really a seminar class. She is preparing you to be a great chemist.
What can I say that everyone else has not already said?
Just don't take her class
Overall, this professor did a very poor job interacting and grading students. She was unclear with what she wanted when asking questions on tests or in lab reports. A lot of information was left for the students to figure out on their own, graded, and then was covered in class. The professor was very behind on grading. unapproachable, superior, snb
Very unclear in discussing just about everything. Rarely willing to help or explain mistakes made. Does not explain things well because she thinks too fast and does things in her head without explaining them to the class. Puts way too much responsibility on the student for failing, doesn't take the blame if even the whole class fails.
If you go to her, she is willing to help but it is up to you to ask for it. Listen to what she says during lecture and you will do fine. If you dont understand, see her during her hours. Stay after for labs because she will help you answer all of the post lab questions. Not a bad professor, just a tough one
Shes so tough. Good luck if you are a nursing major and have no choice but to take her like I did. She goes off on tangents during lecture and you just sit there not understanding anything. She only has three tests and then the final, so you really have to study. Her tests are all open ended and are extremely hard. Good luck if you have her.
Her exams are based on the current class you are taking then tying it back to your intro courses and expects DETAILED answers because it is all OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS. I have never worked so hard for mediocre grades, you will learn a lot if you push yourself, but if you want an easy class, do not take it with her. You will regret not listening to me
The worst professor Ive ever had. Everyone in my class could not believe how terrible she was. She did not teach and she would blame us for getting bad grades. I am a straight A student and I got a D in this class because she did not teach. DO NOT TAKE HER! This was my worst mistake.
Started with 40 students barely able to find a seat Ended up with 18 students and we all cried ourselves to sleep
She was a great professor. Her tests are based solely on her lectures. I recommend buying Organic Chemistry as a second language semester one. The problems there are near identical to the questions on her exams. She's also very helpful as a preceptor. She based the final grades on how everyone did comparatively in the class.
This professor did not teach her class at all. There were no lectures and she expected the class to retain information from group work that was unclear and never explained. This is the only class Ive had to retake. Do not take this professor!
she is the worst teacher at Stockton considering the fact she doesn't teach at all!!!
worst professor i have ever had at stockton. exams were impossible... too long and too hard. only 8 out 36 students kids passed in my class. terrible teacher, expects you to teach yourself. also coughs so much in class, very disruptive. DO NOT TAKE.
I implore you DO NOT take her class. She does NOT teach. Please save yourself the trouble, as I learned more from the videos she posted on BB than what she tries to explain to us in class. She gives us worksheets to learn from them before she even explains the content the worksheet contains, so prepare before class or become lost.
Honestly just dont take her... she doesnt teach well and there is no form of redemption if you do poorly.
She is by far the worst professor I've ever had. Gives packets and expects you to be able to read and pick up on the material. She posts youtube links that explain it way better than she does. When she does decide to teach, it's very broad and leaves you guessing what's on tests and quizzes. Very approachable and will help you out if need be though
By far the worst professor I've ever had in my life. She does not teach, students do not learn.
Pollock is a sold choice for the lab component of Orgo. She's actually a really nice person and doesn't get annoyed when you ask her questions. She is a really tough grader on lab reports, though.
Yikes. She is really bad at teaching organic. Like another person said, she coughs CONSTANTLY, and it is extremely distracting during lecture. I relied mostly on the textbook and video links she posted to learn the class. I should mention, before this class I had a 3.85 GPA and got an A in gen chem. Only class Ive ever failed.
She is just not a very good teacher. Her explanations of problems during lectures are at a much lower level of difficulty than the hw problems and exams. Hw is assigned at the beginning of each class and you only have 10 minutes to complete them or you receive no credit. She should assign hw for students to complete over a day like any other class.
I feel bad but this woman just can't teach. You are graded on 4 exams and the problems on the exams are 10x harder than the ones she teaches. I had to teach myself how to do everything by using Youtube and Google to help me out because she just could not teach Organic. HW assigned at class start and due soon after. Please just DO NOT take her.
Good prof during lab, tough outside of class. Super tough grader, but gives good feedback to fix it for next time. Prelabs and lab reports for every lab. Lets you talk to others during lab and answers questions well. Great lab prof, just really tough grader. Nice woman
She is really not that bad. Organic Chem is a hard subject no matter what teacher you have. Going to class definitely helps, she hands out worksheets and goes over them. I never used the textbook. Quizzes are easy but the tests are pretty hard. You'll definitely have to study for tests. She's really nice and is willing to help you.
Dr. Pollock is a very nice person, but I can't learn anything from the way she teaches. She explains things very quickly and it can be really confusing. She gives a lot of partial credit since the exams are all open-ended for this class. With the biochem and orgo overview in the same semester, it's really difficult to fully grasp what she says.
Nursing Students: This is a very hard class no matter the professor. Dr. Pollock gets a bad rep on here and I believe thats much to do with the amount of work put in. Dr. Pollock wants all her students to pass, but a lot of time and effort must be committed. Go to office hours, she will help. Funny and caring professor. Make sure to study a lot.
Make sure to study Orgo before the semester starts(chem 2). Lots of material covered in short time and overlaps with anatomy. Make sure to go for office hours for lab and lecture. Very helpful outside of course and cares about her students. She can teach a little fast so be sure to ask questions if confused. She is much nicer than she seems
Took her first-year course, Food & Society. Way too much work for a G-course. Response papers once a week upon other random assignments. Did I learn anything? No. If you choose to take this course prepare to hate yourself because you will be writing random nonsense.
Expect quizzes every Friday, 3 tests, one final. Every week theres a prelab, lab, and post lab. Good luck...
had her for 2 semesters for chem 1 & chem 2. gives lot of partial credit on tests and quizzes, just make sure to explain yourself in your answers. quizzes and labs due weekly. Despite the workload she is a very nice and funny person who actually cares a lot. Go to office hours, most students have trouble with the course if they dont seek extra help
Had her for a whole year, eventually got used to her grading style. Sometimes I didn't even get the answer right, but bc I explained myself I got partial credit. Labs in chem 1 are so much work, but chem 2 labs easier. If you struggle at all, go to her office hours! People fail and complain about it, but they don't even ask for help. Pollock OG
pretty good
She loves to spew information out at you and not explain any of it. She throws at you in class, and none of it is on the quizzes or tests. The quizzes and tests are entirely based off of knowledge you are have not learned/probably won't learn; expects you to be able to read her mind. Be ready to teach yourself everything and get nothing out of it.
Dr.Pollock makes it clear from the beginning that she emphasizes on group work. Her class consists of difficult worksheets that do not have a key. I have learned a lot of useful information from this class. Her grading is unclear, however lenient. All exams are open ended. Class participation matters. Good luck.
Chem 1 is a very hard class with challenging concepts & Pollock moves fast. She is no joke and I struggled a lot, but she is welcoming when it comes to extra help. I went to office hours and she very patiently answered my questions&gave further examples. Very nice, but is a tough grader and moves very fast. You'll need to put a lot of work in.
Chem 1+2 for nursing. She was very funny and I liked her as a person but as a professor, she was bad. Very basic material in class and then the exams were near impossible. Also blames students for not knowing material. Gives a lot of partial credit though, so explain answers the best you can- probably the only way I got a B in her classes.
This class was by far challenging. The lectures were confusing and the quizzes and tests were extremely difficult. Dr. Pollock is a very smart and cares about her students but I personally did not enjoy her teaching style. You have to put a lot of effort into this class even though she does give partial credit. My advice is go to office hours!!
This classes teaching style just wasn't for me. She would post videos with questions and some of the questions had no correlation to what was said in the video. Simply she doesn't teach and expects you to learn everything from group work with 0 context to the questions asked and the videos that really don't cover the topic. Do not recommend taking.
I took this class as a biochem major and i was completely lost. She never taught anything and just gave us videos. She expected us to memorize everything from chem 1-4 and bio 1-3. The videos were bad too because half of the questions were not discussed in the video. If you take her good luck i would not recommend.
Awful. Does not teach. You have to teach yourself everything. Do not take her!
I HAD to take Pollock for nursing chem for 2 semesters. She made chemistry impossible to understand. She has a coughing tic, she yaps, and talks like already know the topic. Not a bad person, but a horrendous teacher. Im not writing this to scare you, Im writing this hoping she may read this and change her teaching style completely.
She never actually teaches, relies solely on videos, then hands out worksheets. You work in groups and expects you to know all the information. Assigns videos as homework and half the time it asks questions on topics that weren't even discussed in the video. Basically she just uploads videos and gives worksheets and says "figure it out."
Reading these reviews make her sound terrible. She really isn't bad. Chem itself is a hard class but it's not that bad. Ask questions and give explanations on exams as she gives a lot of partial credit
Read the textbook. She wasn't kidding when she put it in the syllabus. Lectures make a lot more sense if you preview the lessons covered in the book before class, and you might be able to get away with missing some classes (don't, though!) Awkward but sweet and easy to approach for questions; she was also understanding of personal circumstances.
I loved Pollock, she was easy to talk to, has a sense of humor and seems passionate about what she does. If you do what you need to do outside of class like doing the homework, studying the material and asking questions, you will be fine. Biochemistry is a hard subject but again if you study youll be fine.
Professor Pollock isn't a clear lecturer; she rushes through examples without explaining her steps, so you end up having to teach yourself most of the material. Her dry humor and coughing tic can be distracting. Quizzes are 2–3 questions, homework is nightly, and missing class makes you fall behind. She does give a lot of partial credit, do it!
The material is difficult, but if you took Chems 1-4 I think you will have a stronger foundation for the course since some of it is pretty Chem IV heavy. She is willing to help if you put in the effort and ask questions outside of class. No homework and very little quizzes, just edpuzzle lectures and exams.
