Dr. Ricketts is very nice and also very helpful. She keeps the class fun, which is hard to do with a group of almost 400. Even though I hate history, I really don't mind going to her class.

Very sweet lady, but the class is very demanding with its reading and writing requirements. It's hard to get everything done for her with my other work from other classes. Take only if you like reading A LOT.

A very sympathetic woman. Do plan on reading and writing a lot. I feel like I did a lot of learning on my own. Into socialism and women's history. If you do the work, you'll do very well. Good luck!

A little bit weird and not the most tech savy plus could have a lill more common sense but she's fantastic as a teacher and a person. Rough work at times but you can do well if you put forth effort. I recommend 100%

She is very nice and helpful and the course doesn't require much work most of the time. But most of the work for tests is done out of class. This sounds good but requires lots of free time. Also she is so biased.

she is pretty weird. Decent teacher. Chimes were dumb. Many people in the class thought she looks like a granmother that should be holding a bowl of cookies at all times.

Elizabeth is amazingly nice, and this was a great class experience. She really opens your eyes. She doesn't ask much, there are no tests, just journal entries and a 10 page paper. You also need 1 presentation 15 min. Lots of talking involved, it's all discussion. Highly Recommended!

She is really cool and down to earth. The class is very low stress, and you learn a lot from it. All you have to do is write journals and a final term paper. No tests. I really enjoyed having her for this course.

Best professor @ IUP! She is so help and cares about her students in and out of class. The class is so interesting and fun and that is hard to do in a survey class. I never wanted to skip! You have tests and quizzes but there is allot of extra credit. Take her class it will be a great time :)

This woman is FABULOUS. She is a really interesting professor with a great deal of knowledge and experience. History 200 can be painful, but her social history project made it absolutely enjoyable. Everyone should have her at lesat once before graduation. She's an awesome storyteller. SHE DESERVES 100 HOT PEPPERS!!!!

She gives out study guide before test on what you only need to know. only thing that sucks is u have to read 4 books.. they're easy, but annoying!!! no text book! I love her so much.... take her!!!!

Best professor on campus. Here is my second attempt at a hot pepper for you! Lighter work load than most history faculty, but you learn more and actually enjoy the classes. Wish I could take another 2 classes from her. (Only take Ricketts, Moore, Finnegan, Lippert, or Bailey in this department.)

She's a very understanding and passionate teacher. I liked how she sets up her lectures. If you have a problem with something--especially in this class of 450 and everything's done on WebCT, she's always an e-mail away and willing to help!

Very helpful, classes informally structured w/o sacrificing efficiency. Nice balance between lecture & discussion. Research project not overly burdensome, yet beneficial for skill development. Overall a nice class, would gladly take another class from her.

very good teacher..tells you exactly what to study for the tests..the book quizes are easy if you read the book and dont have to go to class much to get a decent grade. all the lectures are put online.

Dr. Ricketts is filled with knowledge, and she is very down to earth. I suggest taking this class becuase you actually learn about history, and she makes it interesting! You read a few novels, but the ones she picks are very interesting. No text book. Not returing in 2008-09 because she is writing a book, I would take her class again and again.

Dr. Ricketts is incredibly intelligent, approachable, and helpful. She strives to apply history to students' everyday lives. Grading consists of book quizzes and exams. If you're a student who wants to study history in an unconventional context (through novels and discussions on philosophy), schedule a course with Dr. Ricketts. You won't regret it.

Basically only showed up for the quizzes and tests. Soooo easy. Read the books and glance over the notes. You'll only do badly if you don't show up for the tests.

I dislike history, so I was surprised when I found myself genuinely wanting to learn about it. I was lucky if I ever received anything over a C in history I got an A in her class because she makes it interesting. The novels she chooses are very interesting. she's always willing to answer questions. She makes you want to learn more. I recommend her.

Great teacher, great person. I've had her for several classes and loved all of them! Her tests aren't easy, but if you study, you'll do well.

Best history class ever. So nice and enthusiastic. Tests are short and online, and you use notes that she posts online. You read 4 shorts book throughout the semester and take little tests in class on them, and one's your final. Really easy and enjoyable. Take her!!!

Easiest class you will ever take. Read 4 books, take quizzes. A few in class assignments but rare, and she takes attendance on some Fridays when nobody comes to class, but rarely as well. NO TEXTBOOK. You print out lecture notes and use them on a timed online quiz which you get 2 attempts at. Take her.

Shows an extreme interest in the subject as well as the students. Great personality. Would take her again every semester given the option.

This woman is great. I can't even find a word that describes how great she is. She truly does care, and she's a great educator, mentor and friend because of that.I will be taking more classes from her in the future.This class could have been horrid, but it was actually a treat to take. Once again, not disappointed with her class. Learned so much about contemporary American history. The online quizes sucked sometimes, but everything else was awesome. Loved the zine project and the Howard Zinn book we read. She's down to earth and a great lecturer. I love this professor, take her!

I really enjoyed being in her class. She answers your emails extremely fast, and she is so willing to help! You can tell she loves history, and she picks interesting books to read. I took this as an online class and it was quite easy, which is awesome! She makes history interesting. I hated history until her class! I RECOMMEND HER.

Ricketts definitely makes US history interesting and keeps your attention during lectures. The novels she assigns are definitely worth the read! There isn't a textbook for this class, however all notes are on D2L that you print and bring to class so you can follow along. There's really no way you could fail this course. So glad I took her class!!!

She also goes by Marcus FIY. She is a very nice lady, funny, and is helpful and very knowledgeable on what she is teaching. All the quizzes for the notes are online. It's an easy course. She takes attendance or she'll have an activity for it. So go to class, I would take her again.

I can't speak highly enough about Dr. Ricketts. She is extremely knowledgable and you can always count on her to make you laugh. Her class is rather easy as long as you show up and you will definitely learn tons! If you have to take a history class, take hers.

Dr. Ricketts is by far one of my favorite professors! She makes history so interesting. All quizzes are online so you can use your notes. No midterm or final but a few group projects. She is one of the sweetest ladies ever but can have some sass! Cancels class a lot. I would definitely recommend taking her. I always enjoyed going to her class!

Dr. Ricketts was wonderful. Her lectures could be a bit dry, but she tries her best to keep it interesting. She uploads notes that go along with the powerpoint to D2L and her quizzes aren't too difficult. She didn't assign any group work, aside from quizzes, she only assigned four novels to read that went along with the lesson. No in class exams.

Her class was very easy you didnt need to take notes because her PowerPoints was on D2l. All you had to do was read the required books take quizzes and finish discussions I wish I couldve had her again this semester but her class was full.

She is the most kindest professor on campus. Just a lot of reading outside of class. Her exams are not hard and her online discussions are fun. She makes history very interesting. She is also an easy grader. Her attitude is so cool! I would recommend her to anybody.

Great Professor

Dr. Ricketts is one of the most easy-going professors I've taken. It all depends on your effort really. A very easy grader, will definitely alter assignment dates if you ask her in time. Slow at responding to emails. Really likes class discussion and lets you take charge. A real gem, amazing knowledge and perspective of history.

I had Dr. Ricketts for Unit B. We always had good discussions in her class. She kept things interesting and I was rarely bored. She doesn't make you write a long thesis paper, just something called an "Op-Ed" which was like 4 pages.

She is an amazing professor and never misses a chance to show her students she cares. I would take her class a million times over if I could.

I took Dr. Ricketts for my unit B honors core class and she was amazing. The class was engaging and she is clearly passionate about what she teaches. The class was easy as long as you read the books and participate like every other core class. My only complaint would be that if you disagree with her views, she does not fully respect your opinion.

Dr. Ricketts is such a nice person. Her Unit C class was super easy and she is not a tough grader at all. Just a warning, she is VERY talkative and will often go off track with what we're supposed to be learning (I didn't mind that though). She's very caring with feedback and you will pass if you do the bare minimum.

I took Recent U.S. History over the summer term. It was a really easy class that Dr. Ricketts opened about a month before, so I got most of it done before the actual summer session. The class is graded by discussions and quizzes on the book. There is also a memoir assignment at the end, but it's really easy. Overall, great history class and simple.

A great professor. She's very passionate on what she teaches, and the class is super easy to pass as long as you stay on track. She's very strict on staying focused, do not start side conversations during a lecture or walk in late. Tends to get off task and ramble on about something else. Other than that, she's very sweet and light on work.

I LOVED her. She was so funny and very interactive with students. She gave out icebreakers to the class and was very explanatory on assignments. She always explained everything, she'd do it 1000 times if she had to. She would also ask if people were okay and did check-ins.

Took her for HNRC 101 Unit A, poggers professor. Class was so easy and there was very minimal work. Such a funny and chill professor, class conversations are awesome.

The nicest professor I have had. Cares a lot about the students and wants to see you succeed. Gives study guides for every test that is also online. Do have to read books for book quizzes but the books are interesting and aren't all that long. Gives all assignments ahead of time so you can finish things way ahead of schedule.

She is the most caring professor I have ever had. She genuinely cares about her students. Her assignments are fast and to the point. The reading is easy. As long as you go to class you will be fine.

Dr. Ricketts tries to make class fun and she does a good job at it. I learned more in her class than any other honors I took. She gives really good feedback and is always willing to help a student. Only thing I didn't like is she can be a little sexist towards men and occasionally brings her political views into class, not very often though.

LOVE HER! Funny, kind, yapper. Lots of readings but they're easy and kinda interesting. So sweet and makes us really think and the class gets really close very quickly.

I absolutely LOVED Dr. Ricketts. She is nice, silly, and really cares about her students. Everyone in my class loved her too. We did have homework almost every night but it wasn't crazy hard. She is so so sweet and I would definitely recommend taking any course that she teaches.

I had Dr. Ricketts for my first honors class and I am beyond grateful that she was my introduction. Her class was so interesting, and I genuinely learned something. She is an absolute sweetheart, loves to talk, and genuinely cares about her students. I would take over again 100x if I could.
