This class was too time consuming. On top of classwork, we had to organize and setup 3 kiddie carnivals at various locations. We also had to buy alot of the supplies with our own money! It wasn't to bad though. She does have the tendency to snap on you.

too many **** stories
She is good teacher, with an even better outlook on life. Even if you don't do the work listen to what she has to say. There is ussally a method to her madness, and it makes sense to those that follow through.
She is very friendly, open to questions, and helpful. Sometimes she gets upset with different point of views other than her own. Class is interesting and she loves what she teaches.
She is a very nice lady but her teaching method is hard to understand. She tells tons of stories and elaborates on everything- which would seem to make it easier but actually confused me even more. Doesnt respect students opinions.
Talks about too much stuff relating to herself. Gets annoying. Early on, she would talk so much cr*p I felt like walking out. I would avoid her if at all possible.
Uses different teaching mrthods and keeps class interesting, but always incorporates her obesity into stories and it gets really f*cking old. She doesnt like when you disagree with her.
whenever she has a story all she talks about her obesity and her sex life, also her tests are kind of hard, i think her main purpose is to try and give out bad grades to her students, when ive asked questions shes NOT helpful at all
Shes nasty, her ugliness makes the class that much more ****ty. She is a social problem and shouldnt be teaching. Her tests are hard and it takes a good 45min to read through and then you have to try and answer them..hard mult. choice...Take Ore instead!!
DO NOT TAKE 366!! Besides writing a 10 page paper you have to put on "peace" events for the st cloud community and they are a joke!! Probably more work outside of class than actually in class. Fundraising and advertising are required!
Tests are not too hard if you do the readings. However, listening to her in class is not fun. She talks about too many off topic things and then when people leave she disrupts the class by yelling bye to the person leaving.
I would never recommend her to anyone and I would never take another class with her. She is too unclear and I don't learn anything from her. Her notes are too long (which doesn't even make them notes) and its almost impossible to study for her tests!
She is a joke!!! I did not learn a thing, besides, how she is fat, loves sex and how she tries to pick up a date in class through our CPS system. She thrives off of picking out students in an auditorium class and embarrassing them.

her class is hard, but you do learn a lot, she isnt' that bad in the end. Don't have a closed mind. I guess it depends on what class you have with her. In the end it pays off. I thought I would have a D in her class but I got an A. She comes through.
Definately talks a lot about personal issues, but I actually enjoyed the class. I think she made understanding sociology pretty easy, but we had a small class. I guess I don't know how she is in auditorium classes.
talking about sex is fine, but talking about scheel's sex life every day gets old--- fast!
She is definitely not helpful, and she loves to embaress students. She is not funny about it at all either. She really goes for throat and has no problems hurting your feelings!
She is unclear in what she wants for projects and then takes points off for things that were supposed to be *xtra credit. Very opinionated. Picks on students. Talks too much about personal life. If she is having a good day then classes are ok but if shes crabby then watch out.
She is a little crazy with her personal life, but you can have fun with her. If you just do your work she will give an 'A'
I did not like this class at all. She could tell you that the sky is green and since she says so it must be correct. She might even test you on that one. Not clear about where she gets her facts.
not clear on what she wants--tons of work--then she gets pissed because you didn't read her mind. this lady expects you to really work hard for your grade. i wouldn't suggest taking her for more than 1 class per semester. she gives you a lot to do! STRESS!!
she's not really clear and she puts me to sleep. Skip the days she's lecturing
lots and lots of work, be prepared she doesn't like men, republicans, or law enforcement
She brings some issues to class which may or may not be relavent however is a lot of fun.
she's huge!!! Acts like its a graduate course!! Almost have to teach yourself to understand the class!!!! Everything she says is right and everything you say is wrong.
ONE OF THE WORST AND UNPROFESSIONAL TEACHERS I HAVE EVER SEEN. SHE SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING, AND SHE IS HAVING A MIDLIFE CRISIS SO SHE WILL TAKE IT OUT ON YOU!

very smart teacher. she is very helpful if you go to her. for all you complainers out there that she does not help, well you need to go to her office. she helped me out on everything and she will even do research with you. she is not as bad as every one says. ALWAYS FOLLOW HER DIRECTIONS.
she lectures off powerpoint everyday. we had no tests though but had daily quizes on readings and lecture material which was open note. we also had 3 assignments which we had to do, so this class wasnt too hard as long as you showed up. gets mad when people leave early and can pick on people easily.
I tried giving her a chance. She wasn't that bad until she gave us an assignment and changed the requirment verbally, and not emphasizing it. Almost everyone was confused and was docked points. There is really no way to avoid her if you're taking soc 111, just pay CLOSE attention. I'd give her a C.
I dont know where to start!!! First half had T. Ore, who was great. Then in "rolled" scheel, shes horrible. Very vague and closed minded. Even when shes wrong about something she wrote on paper. Shell deny it and say shes right. Scatterbrained and very unorganized with dates and the schedule. Bad.
She is very outspoken and its her way or the highway
Did not pay for this class to hear "alright" every other word.I counted today and she said "alright" 215 times, in an hour and 15 minutes. 215. Thats 430 a week, 830 a month, and who knows in a semester. I'm dead serious. She should take some more public speaking classes....alright.
First half of 111 with Ore was pretty good, she was clear and down to earth. Knew her stuff and was fair. Second half rolls in Scheel and her far leftist liberal views put Democrats to shame. She is very unfair and unclear on assignments. Will not admit to any mistakes. Prepare to be frustrated
" You are bab, bab, bab, bab..." I guess that's her favorite work, ohh yeah, and also, "alright!" Over all, she is fine and nothing much going on in her class. Only 3 assignments, everyday CPS quizzes and few group discussion. By the way, it's an auditorium class so no presetation And, no exam!!
the first half of class with ore was great. Scheel's lectures are okay except for her saying "alright or right" a hundred times. I'm also not sure why she asks for the students input when she disagrees with them all and feels she is always right. Listen carefully to directions cuz she changes them.
Ore was great and scheel was at times also, but she is very opinionated and its her way or no way.
I think that Prof. Scheel was a great teacher. She made her half of the class very interesting. She writes down everything EXACTLY how she wants it. If you don't listen then it is your own fault dang(for all you whiners out there). She's really a good teacher don't listen to the ones who dont listen

LOTS OF READINGS AND WRITING PAPERS INCORPORATING THE 300 READINGS INVOVLED IN THE CLASS. NOT FUN!!
Wonderful professor, you can talk to her about anything, even though she makes fun of you, dont take it too seriously, she made the class fun and enjoyable, i definetly would take her again, she gets everyone involved within the class
must read 7 20 page articles and write reports on them, incorporate 42 articles into a paper, most of them unrelated, this class sucks, do not take it. no structure, must learn everything on your own.
Way too many readings that are totally unrelated to the class. You will spend more time and money on making worthless copies of the readings that you will never use. Impossible to please her in this course! She is "restructuring" everything, so beware of more complications to come!
At times this was the most fun class I had; but at other times it was hard. I worked hard and got a good grade. Get group members for the same major that you are in.
She's a good teacher, knows her stuff, but isn't too nice to the students. She thinks she can control them. She did quizzes EVERYDAY, you have to go to class everyday. There is one paper, and one project. I am VERY positive that she hates bush, and her students rank just under him if they get on the slightest of her nerves.
she thinks that she has this class perfected. she really has no idea and gives too much work for the grade one recieves. she favors some people of the class and degrates others infront of the class. criminal justice students BEWARE. she hates us.

I thought that she was a good teacher. I did better in her half the class than proffessor Ore's. You didnt neccesarily have to do the readings pay attention in class and youll be good.
If you can take this for your DemCit in summer- do it. Laid back, easy, but still challenging. I thought she was a good professor.
all I can say is ****
She was a great teacher some days and totally ridiculous other days. (more days) I passed easily without reading anything. just pay attention in class.
Makes broad statements. Rather crazy. I'm quite left-wing, but she's just nuts. She makes really awful and extreme comments, like someone who doesn't think. The purple hair is awful and I think, in some cases, her relationship with students is improper.
I am telling you right now..DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! She assigns way to much work for a 3 credit class, even a 300 level class. Had a reading journal(read approx 1000+ pgs) and respond to them, class wrote a book which took forever and was huge!1000+ points / extra scattered projects that were very confusing! Hope you like limited vocabulary and work!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!
She likes to use shock and awe to describe deviant behavior. Personally I thought that individual sexual habits was personal but appearently sociology is sex ed too! Work load was way too much, and she was extremely confusing about assignments. Dont take the class unless you have too! You can tell how her day has been by how many times she swears!!
Wow..I actually thought about buying a sword and learning how to commit hari kari during her lectures. She is in her office about as often as.. I don't have a snappy one liner for that, but she's never in her office. This class equalled the work load of my other 5 classes. She is quite vague and no one knows wtf to do.
Knows her stuff, but beyond unprofessional. Hearing about an instructor's sex-life is not something I'm paying tuition for. Do NOT take, use your tuition dollars where they will find proper use. !Disgrace.!
do not take. her assignments are ridiculously hard and there are way too many to even try to accomplish! her grading is unfair, the group projects are unbelievable. if you don't agree with her, pretend you do or don't day anything because she makes her point clear and will shoot you down if you question her. she is a complete nutcase.
She was unorganized and unprofessional. She could have accomplished the "laid back" attitude she seemed so desperate to achieve without crossing over into distasteful. Work load is insane. Lectures are pointless. She teaches without rhyme or reason! I dropped this class because it was too much to handle, and so was she.

I just thought that I would make it clear that this class was extremely tough! I worked my butt off and ended up pulling a A+ in the class, but I will never ever think about taking her again. She was just plain out terrible. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! ~and dont look back!!!!!
Dont wait for her to give you the "letter" as she will call it, it comes out right after you can only drop with a W. She will act nice but after that date she turns. Dont run, find one of those yellow bikes and ride like the wind.
Fun class, She is VERY liberal!!! and I'm not by any means. But it was still fun. Sometimes lots of work, but TONS AND TONS of extra credit. Tho she press's her views on you. If you are messing around in class she is not shy to yell at you!! lol good times.....
Completely unprofessional. Her attempts at humor are crude, at best. She espouses liberal agenda as most SCSU professors seem to do, however, she is abjectly socialist, and admits it openly. Her class consisted of papers, projects and tests. The projects were the only worthwhile part of the class. To ace the class, just restate her views.
very unprofessional, she spent less time teaching and more time complaining about her life, her husband, his family, and anything else that annoyed her that day...she talks about other professors and I didn't get anything out of the class..I feel like I had to work my ass off while she sat in class eating and complaining
Absolutely HORRIBLE class!!! As another reviewer said, Scheel-Keita is very VERY unprofessional, and I don't think that she is as open-minded as she thinks she is. Don't waste your time on this class. Find a class in which you can have learn new things and ultimately, have a good time learning!
Dont take this class, spent whole time fundrasing, working on a stupid fundraser. She will act like it is a normal class but after the W date, she will stop teaching and make u work for her to build her own rep. We were supposed to have tests on every chapter. one on chapter one, then we had another 2-11. You wont learn about soc. Unfair, and mean
She changed her mind about everything!
Worst teacher at SCSU, Unless you want to hear about how stupid you are for going to SCSC and get yelled at becuase her instructions arent clear dont take this class with her. I wish I took a class with another prof. and actually got to learn something valuable!! Find an easier and nicer prof. for this 100 level class and you'll be fine.
Very nice and helpful teacher. Her class was a lot of fun.
Scheel is not a very nice prof and she judges alot of people and talks alot of b.s. thats completely unrelated to class topic. The class itself would have been interesting and good but having a negative professor makes the situation difficult to learn and concentrate, esp. when she pushes her views and problems upon to you.
Worst teacher I've had in my entire life. Runs her mouth and freaks out a lot. Isn't helpful at all and never stays on track with topics we discuss. I would stay very far away from her.
I thought she was a really good professor! She knows what she is talking about and always uses good examples to help explain theory. I recommend her highly. She is also very helpful if you come during her office hours or make an appointment to come.
She is extremely un-professional. everyday she immediatly complains that students are emailing her for help (clearly thats not why she has email!!)everything else in her life! Very unclear about everything but will take off tons of points if its not HER answer..direct quote- "i dont like the grade you gave me"-student "i didnt like your answer"-her
She braught her personal life into the classroom and took her frustration out on us. she got mad when we e-mailed her with questions. A very unprofessional professor. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR THIS CLASS
needs to be more helpful!
She is a nice person and only brings her personal life into the class when it is relevant to the subject at hand. She is always happy to give help if need in her office hours. the class was hard but good grade is attainable.
What a lazy professor. She doesn't do anything, and then complains about it. She constantly lectures the class like a middle school teacher. Nags the whole way. Shes anal about having typed and stapled papers. Full of excuses too. Pointless class. Dont take it with her, you will regret it.
She is a very angry person, She yells at everyone for everything. She is very unclear with directions and very rude. She was by far me LEAST favorite prof. and i found it very difficult to talk to her
Meh...she is really nice outside of class but she kind of morphs in class...it's not that hard make sure you read and FOLLOW HER INSTRUCTIONS, she is really picky about that. Boring class
Pretty Interesting lectures, and she makes concepts click in your head, she really knows her stuff. I thought she was reasonable with her office hours, although her projects are unreasonably stupid and they make up a huge huge part of your grade so don't take her if you don't like doing projects.
She requires us to be in the SOC club, which she is the adviser of. This requires a lot of outside class time that you do not get credit for, and she gets very angry when things don't get done. She posted a quiz online and said anyone who didn't do it would be dropped from the class. Do not take this class with her, it's not worth the 3 credits.
Okay, so the project kind of sucks, but the class itself is really interesting. She keeps your focus (and I'm ADD!) and has good stories. She is actually a really nice person and cares about you succeeding. Go see her in office hours and she will be very helpful.
Very juvenile, if we included a secret word (bubble gum) from an email she sent we got extra credit at the end of the class. Requires reading a number of articles that were photocopied very poorly. Avoid this class, if you do have take it don't bother butting heads with her, just parrot what she wants to hear.
Took her online class and her project is just out of control. First there is no guidance, 400 hands out in context box, not know which one I should be reading for which section and so forth. I would not take her class knowing this, most pointless project in my opinion
Awful class. She seems like a nice lady but she makes you do SO much reading and homework, and there is a HUGE project to do that she grades impossibly hard, and the project is like having a part time job! DONT take this class with her!!!
I don't know where to start. I took this class online, and figured it would save time because usually online courses are cut and dry. I was wrong. Syllabus was unorganized, ten pages long, and took me like two weeks to figure anything out. Never knew when anything was due. She pushes her extremist views on you and becomes angry you don't agree. RUN
Good lectures, HORRIBLE group project. Doesn't give very clear directions and is really unorganized. Lots of out of class time put in. Show up and participate and you'll do ok. Would not recommend this teacher, the stress isn't worth it.
This class was taken online, it was very interesting. The projects are not easy, however the grading was fair. There were no tests, however there was a lot of readings. Do not take this class if you are not self-disiplined.
I took this class online and thought that it would just be a little easier to manage my time. BIG mistake her syllabus is so unorganized, she changes the due dates, and is just really not helpful in anything well you email questions. AVOID if at all possible!!
Had her for class and vowed to never take a class with her ever again....but because she teaches the area of my emphasis it is inevitable to avoid her...fml!
She was nice, but the class was really demanding. The big project sucks (you must do 12+ hours of volunteer work and do fundraising). She required 5 books for the class, and doesn't give you much time to read them, and makes you watch lots of usually long videos on D2L and do lots of extra readings.
Agree with many of these comments, however, the one different one I have is that she is an extreme feminist. Lots of male bashing. Directions are unclear, and failed to respond to any questions that I asked of her through email. Avoid if possible.
Avoid!! Does not have very much structure, no text books just many reading equaling the biggest textbook you can think of. This class will consume a majority of your time especially the project that is a majority of your grade. She does not lecture very good and her powerpoint do not help much. She is biased to her opinion. Avoid at all costs!
One of the worst teachers ever, really hard grader and doesn't listen to what her students have to say. Avoid her.
This class was very difficult and this teacher was not clear on what she wanted you to do.The class was very unorganized and had very little structure.I would NOT recommend taking this teacher, although the material is interesting.
Awful professor. I went into this class excited about learning the material and now I hate it. I will NEVER take another class with her again. She cancelled class more than she came, she is very unclear in her goals, and we had 5 text books, and insane amounts of reading but never discussed it in class so we had no idea what she wanted us to learn.
If you are looking to do an undercover expose on the most extreme leftists in classroom, shes the one!! Everyone else comments are right. She is super political, very left-wing, picks on students for not sharing her world view.
I took this class online and thought it was a lot of work for a introductory course. She has very high expectations and it is a lot of work. I do not recommend taking this class with this professor...
ok so i took this class in the fall of 2011, but i seen her on campus the other day and figured i should rant alittle about her too. possibly the worst proffessor on campus, and ive had some bad ones. not clear at all, and has just stupid projects that are most of your grade. not very nice and unclear with everything on d2l.. avoid
Her class started off extremely difficult. The D2L portion of the class is completely unmanageable, but her lectures are very helpful and not too difficult to grasp the concept of. only use the book when you take the test.
She is very unclear in her directions & seems to get mad when students ask for clarity. I get the impression that she thinks she is always right. Intentionally embarrasses students in class if they don't agree with her views. Tons of online work and readings that seem pointless. Lectures are interesting. Involves a lot of her personal life in class
she is actually a good teacher. when i first started her class i hated it but she forces you to learn a lot in her class. i think maybe she just starts off mean to scare the slackers out of her class. its not hard though once you get the swing of how to go over the material but there is a lot of material. not a terribly hard class.
She is a good teacher. Her work load is heavier than most but felt I learned alot from her class. She really made the class interesting with her own stories and experiences. I would recommend her as long as you don't have to many classes because as I mentioned her work load is heavier. She does a good job in helping you learn the material.
She is a very inconsistent grader. She tells more stories about her life than needed. This course is way harder than any other 100 intro course I have ever taken! She is unorganized and does not give deadlines. This class is supposed to be in class, but actually is half online.
she gives very unclear directions, and if you ask her about the directions, she will get mad at you. she also says way too much about her personal life. do not take her for this class, it will ruin sociology for you
She has standards, which I appreciate, and does an above average job with teaching the class. Not the best teacher I've had, but I would sign up for another class with her. She was very flexible with the work.
She's one of my favorite professors. She's a little intimidating, but she really makes you think about things differently. I would definitely recommend her if you're actually interested in learning. You have to do a lot of reading, but quizzes are online and open book/notes. So it's not that hard.
My worst college experience EVER. She is very helpful but her expectations are too crazy. So many projects, had students basically teach the class, we were all confused the entire semester of what she wanted of us and how we were supposed actually completed all the projects. Avoid unless you really enjoy having no social life.
I was interested in the class before I got there, however she is way to unclear for me. She does not help you as much as you need. All the exams and quizzes are online, so that will help you. Make sure you do all of the readings, and PAY ATTENTION. I did not do to hot in this class and I only missed one class period. I recommend a different prof :(
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. She reads off a powerpoint during class and expects you to put your outside life into this class. DO NOT recommend her!!! She gets mad if you ask for help and doesn't care what's happening to extend deadlines at all.
She is a wonderful professor with an amazing mind! She want you succeed and has no problem sharing her personal struggles with you. She has alot of coursework, but none of it is difficult in nature. Her classes are worth your time.
She is very knowledgable about sociology. It is true she has a lot of course work and readings, but she also has fun videos and online games. Expect to read and write multiple D2L discussion posts. Very fun class once you create a schedule of when to do work and readings. All online exams are open book, but make sure you have read the book before!
She was not clear what so ever! Do not take this class. Grades very hard and doesn't even know when her own assignments are due. She makes you use D2L over her own teaching.
I will first say that this professor and I had very different viewpoints on life and disagreed about a lot of things. She does try to get you to think in different ways. There is a LOT of work for this class, but not much of it is too difficult. I hated this class but I don't have any interest in this subject so it might be different for others.
This was the worst professor I had this semester. She told us the first day of class that we will not be having a final and two weeks before finals week she tells us we have a final. She is rude and doesn't help you with any of your questions. She doesn't teach anything about sociology besides her being fat and sexually abused as a child.
She was a very hard grader, and also rude. She has no respect for students at all and also bashed what you said when you spoke in front of the class, she also is very lazy when it comes to grading assignments.
I will first say that she definitely treats you like an adult. Talks about risky topics and swears a lot. She is very unapproachable and I didn't want to ask ?s in fear she'd make me feel stupid. Interesting class tho, final was super easy group work and only a few short papers and assignments that you had to take time on, but weren't too hard.
I the family violence class online. Its a slightly heavy work load but you have enough time to finish everything. Plus there is a ton of extra credit! If your okay with doing projects then it should be an easy A for you. She seemed intimidating to approach at first but once I got that over with it was fine. She is now one of my favorite teachers!
She never gave a proper syllabus and made the class have so many extra readings that we never used. She did have a lot of extra credit but other then that I hated the class
This professor only had taught this class this semester. She never gave us an entire syllabus, assigned four books to read - only told us in class a week before to read them, emailing her is awful throughout the semester, did not put grades up on time, quizzes were extremely difficult and did not show answers until end of course. Do not take her.
This teacher is horrible!!! her instructions are impossible to follow. Her grading is very hard to understand. and the discussions were non informative. I learned nothing I expected. I loved the book Why Does he Do that? and learned the most there. The text books are dumb. The second textbook I looked at once.
Dr Scheel-Keita is very passionate about areas in which she teaches,I had her for my introductin to sociology class. I really was not expecting to like it but it is my favorite class, I dont know if it would be if it wasnt for her teaching it. She is "real" something I greatly admire in a person. She treats her students as adults another big thing for me, its college not high school. She gives you lots of information you can learn from if not its your loss. Not going to get your GPA lowered because sociology is not your thing, you can get a good grade by just doing your work, acting like an adult.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken, no joke. Especially for a 100 level class. The work load was crazy and I literally didn't have a life all semester because of this class.
I would not recommend this teacher. I wish i could take this class with another professor. She is knowledgeable but this class is super hard for a 100 level class, she acts like we have all this time and only take her class and no other class. Prepare to read a million pages each week and to be completely lost. tests are on quizlet, so they're easy
A lot of people complain about the "workload" but it really isn't that much. She gives a lot of information so that you can learn from different perspectives. It isn't hard but you actually have to read and pay attention to understand concepts, which it seems many students in the class were not used to. She is very passionate and knowledgeable.
This online class is work as far as reading and using what your read. But it was one of my most useful classes out of my past 190 credits over 37 years. Class is not filled with trivial information you wont ever use. All of it related to things I've seen and not always under stood in life. If you want to learn, take this.
Incredibly vague assignment instruction. Her D2L resources are the most disorganized thing I've ever seen. She overshares during lecture. You'll know every one of her health problems as well as her children's health problems as well as the details of her divorce. VERY unprofessional. Take another class, because this one isn't worth it at all.
Worst teacher EVER. She doesn't give feedback and is rude when she does. Don't take her classes, you will regret it!
NEVER take one of her classes
160 is NOT a filler online class! TWO required texts and you will need to read both, fully, to pass!! This class is VERY time consuming, requiring several hours a week(10 at least) for a decent grade. D2L is loaded, over 500 links, at least half are essential to fulfill min. requirements. Dr. Scheel is invested. interactive and she knows her stuff!
She is very opinionated. She voices her views on all politics and doesn't care that you might have different views on the world. She seems willing to help students but she comes off so rude that students are afraid to approach her. On the assignments do NOT put your political opinions in it because she will grade them as WRONG. AVOID HER!
Must be organized to take this class. Two textbooks and hundreds of other articles to read. Weekly discussions and must have certain number of posts, as well as posting on multiple days. 3 hour long "quizzes" although you can score over 100%. If you give it some effort you will do pretty good, just have to try.
She is a very unreasonable professor who is incredibly unprofessional in her responses to students and "real life activities." Watch out for her interactive experiences as she requires you to do things that herself would not be able to do. (like forcing you to live on $4 a day). I don't know how she still has a license to teach!!!!
Requires a ridiculous amount of work for a 100 level class. Crazy requirements for discussions and you can never please her even when you follow her exact directions. Very passive aggressive and rude. I believe that she will scare people away from majoring in sociology because her class requires unnecessarily time consuming assignments.
The rudest and strictest teacher that I have ever had. If you ask her a simple question she will respond with a answer that comes off as disrespectful.
Professor knows a lot about the topics. Interesting class.
I've taken many classes with her and she is the WORST. She is so vague in her assignment instructions no one knew what was expected EVER. Her assignments are totally pointless. D2L page is a mess. Super unprofessional and talks about her personal problems nonstop. The only good thing I have to say about her is she's interesting and knows her stuff
Wow. If you want to have a semester long anxiety attack sign up for a class with Dr. Scheel! Ive never done so much reading discussing writing testing in one class ever. This was easily a six credit course going on workload and expectations alone. I'd take her again because she teaches what I care about but Id lighten my normal load substantially
I had a level 100 online Sociology class with this professor. She didn't have a clear syllabus, but literally 12 different sheets with different criteria on it. Her expectations for the discussions were over insane. If you followed her exact directions, it would still be wrong. Did have extra credit opportunities, but not worth it.
This class was so much work, and so time consuming. I've taken a research methods class for my major which was an awful lot of work as well, but nothing compared to this class. She grades really tough and is not at all forgiving. Unclear directions and just chaotic. 12/10 do NOT recommend.
Disorganized, unclear about her expectations and her grading depends on her current mood. Disrespectful towards students but demands respect in return. AVOID any class she teaches.
Worst professor ever for social deviance.
semester just started and its terrible already. You need to better organize all your documents. It is not necessary to have FIVE documents about yourself lady. This is a class about deviance, not Elizabeth Scheel-Keita. I guess all I can say is, I'd update how terrible this class is at the end of the semester.
I took this class online and, it was the worst. For starters, there are about 20 syllabi with conflicting instructions and each many pages long. She expects you to read them all, and it's like combing through federal documents. She doles out grades based on how much you align with her political views and will freely berate you for disagreeing.
DON'T TAKE HER ONLINE CLASSES! She is disorganized and you never know when assignments are due or what is required of them. She gives out grades based on how much she agrees with your viewpoint and is extremely closed minded. I did multiple EC assignments for her to not even include them in my grade. I'd give her a 0/5 if I could.
She is the worst professor Ive had so far. Very unclear instructions, deadlines, and grading. Many discussions are due where you have to cite multiple sources. She is extremely disrespectful and not helpful answering questions. I DO NOT reccomend.
Online material is very unorganized. The work load is unrealistic and it is a complete set up for failure. Only 34% of the students that enrolled in her class completed it this semester. She is very rude when your contact her for assistance.
She is very unorganized. I took her online class and couldn't follow her syllabus. She has literally like 20 documents for introduction to the course that don't necessarily have anything to do with delinquency. All I can say is she is a very unfair grader. Be prepared for a heavy workload.
Dr. Sheel is very accessible & understanding. If you're having a hard time w/the material or a personal problem is putting you in a bind with class - meet with her ASAP. She posts the minimums you need for a C, which is great. There's lot of reading & required discussion but the material is very interesting. She is very direct & I like that.
Lots of readings and discussions every week. Midterms and final exams require a heavy amount of work and tough grading. Be prepared to cite multiple sources for everything you do. Lots of broken links for assignments as well.
I thought this class would be fun just by seeing the name but it is very time consuming. You have to read all the material and go in depth with it by writing a paper every other week. If you don't read the material she will also know. Very knowledgeable about what shes teaching. DON'T be afraid to email if you are confused or have questions.
I took her online course for SOC 160 this summer and ended up dropping it, not because the content was too hard; because her expectations were way too high for a 100-level 3-credit class. Two textbooks, lots of additional readings, and unrealistic expectations to even earn a C in the class. Her D2L page is unorganized and the syllabus is confusing.
I would not recommend this professor, I took her criminology class online and the expectations for the class were crazy. Also, to me, it felt like I wasn't allowed to have my own opinion or thoughts. She seems like she grades off personal opinion, not the quality of work, and if you disagree with her, you're wrong or incorrect. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Her expectations are certifiably insane for a completely online asynchronous class. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES. complete assignments only earn a C. And she will take points away for seemingly nothing. she will deduct a FULL GRADE for any discussion posted in the two days before its even due. SHE IS INSANE YOU WILL WANT TO DROP CLASS.
RUN!! Do not take this class even if it is the only one you can take! This professor has INSANE requirements for a 100 level class. I have had plenty of 300 and 400 level classes with way less work than this one. Doing the requirements will get you a C or less. Unrealistic expectations beyond belief. The syllabus is the craziest one I've ever seen.
Scheel-Keita is the worst professor ever for this class. She is requires an insane amount of reading each week as well as busy work assignments. She also requires 3 texts (Free PDFs) which have corresponding chapter questions but does not specify which book the questions are in. DO NOT TAKE HER.
She does leave a decent amount of feedback on assignments but never anything positive! Is quick to tell you what you did wrong but does not provide help for errors. I took a fully online course and there are LOTS of discussions and readings, beware of group presentations in online classes. Would not take her again.
I would highly not recommend taking her class. The syllabus was all over the place she doesn't give grading criteria based on percentage. Not clear about what she wants on the assignments. I had a presentation w/ audio she did not specify on the syllabus she wanted audio throughout presentation. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
Projects are EXTREME. Enough to spread across 3 classes. Discussions need 7 responses WITH citations to even earn a B. At the end she asks what you learned IN DETAIL. I couldnt even remember what I learned it was SO much material. easily 300+ documents that are mandatory to read on D2L to do the assignments. If no kids no other classes = maybe a B
Personally, this class was not super challenging. I think the biggest reason I was not fond of this professor was because of their expectations. I felt like no matter how much I did I could never get full credit on the discussions. My advice is to focus more on getting good quiz scores and take advantage of extra credit! Good luck.
While the workload is heavy, SOC366 with Professor Scheel-Keita is quite interesting. unstuckstudy proved helpful for study prep, complementing the textbook and discussions. Overall, a rewarding experience.
I have to take so many of her classes in order to graduate and it is horrible. She is a tough grader, grades on a C average, doesn't reach out to students, and doesn't give rubrics for assignments. I debated changing my major because of how awful her classes are and how terrible she makes me feel about herself. There is more I am at the word limit.
Way too difficult, the expectations are very unreasonable. She is not involved in the class and you are left to do tons of work on your own. Just lots of links, books, youtube videos etc. All of these sources are super wordy, vague, unhelpful
She's got a rep for being a difficult professor but I didn't find her to be difficult. She is more confusing than anything. She doesn't edit her d2l from previous semesters so you'll get conflicting information as what she wants you do to. A lot of reading is honestly unnecessary. The group project at the end is most of your grade.
Her D2L page makes no sense, and her assignment instructions are vague. The final project is worth about 1/3 of your entire final grade. We are at the end of the semester, and I barely know what is happening, even after reading every document. Don't take this class unless you have already taken a regular sociology class; you won't understand it.
