Makes life hell!
be on her good side. ok teacher, u must do much work on own. too fast paced.

Helpful and patient. Take her!
helpful and fun!!
not helpful, doesn't care about students
seems she intentionally tries to get grades down

Exams are extremelly hard to get good grades on. She's helpful during labs or if you have a question.
C'mon, guys. Those comments are not just unnecessary, they are likely false. Elizabeth would not go down on a student, much less sleep with one. Be honest, guys. Be honest.
She is easy! Material is cake. People who do bad are pretty stupid or don't know how to study! But she often isn't very helpful, if you have a problem deal with it b/c she doesn't care! Kind of lazy & snippy! She definately prefers boys over girls!!!
She states that she was going to make it easier for people that aren't bio majors, but it just was hard as ****. tests are impossible.. take someone else.

She is not helpful and VERY snippy. She doesn't care about the student's grades. Tests hard. Her personality is horrible. You can tell when she's in a bad mood! I would never take her again -- even if it means taking A/P I/II somewhere else. The worst!
The class is hard but that's to be expected. Tends to be moody. Will help if you ask. Spelling shouldn't count since she also makes spelling errors.
You guys are ridiculous... Prof. Hodgson is great!! She is like a friend in class and gives us awesome little hints for exams. For the horror stories I've heard about A&P, I can't believe I enjoy it as much as I do. I'd suggest her class to anyone.
I enjoyed her a lot! She is very cheerful (most of the time) and gives great study tips/hints for the practical. Practicals are not that hard if you study for them. Quizzes are a breeze!
Entirely too much material presented. She said she would make class simplified for non-bio majors but didnt. Tests were impossible. Only good thing was the labs were very easy, just show up.

she was difficult, tad snippy, and horny! Not student friendly, but if you have rich parnets and dont have to work and have lots of time to study... got for it. For us who have to work full time not recommended.

Professor Hodgson is a good teacher she doesn't like whiners so for all you cry babies out there who can't handle it, don't take it. This class is supposed to be hard duh!!!! Everybody gets moody give her a break.
This class IS supposed to make you work for your grade, and if you can't do that, then drop the class. I really liked Hodgson. She can be moody, but can't we all?! I'm glad I get to have her next semester, too.

Horrible lab teacher...tests are insane...100 blanks and you have to get spelling perfect or else it's wrong. She gets a laugh out of marking things wrong and more people in her classes get C's or D's and a few F's. Study TONS or fail miserably.
Yes, its a hard class...but her expectations are not unreasonable. She is very willing to answer questions and presents things well and with a bit of humor. Be warned that attendance and hard work are absolutely required.
I really like Hodgson. Class is not all that difficult if you put just a little time in. Most people leave before lab time is even up so they have no room to complain. Grading is fair and reasonable.
Test questions are fair, but you REALLY need to know your stuff to pass. This is an extremely intense course. Toss aside your social life, take the minimum credits, and dedicate your life to this course. Take another professor to keep a good GPA.
The best of the three prof. I had for one bio class. What is going on in the Bio dept?
I took AP I and AP II over the summer and it was def. hard! I have never had to study so intensely. Its a tough course with tough tests and high exprectations. That being said...professor Hodgson is a nice lady who knows her stuff study and you'll be fine
Um well. . . she knows her stuff. Pretty good lecture, but DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IN THE SUMMER, if you plan to have a life. Overall I think she is a nice lady, but don't expect to get by. She expects you to work for the grade you recieve.
I LOVED her class. She is hilarious and helped me plenty of times with my stupid questions. You have to work for the grade... it is expected to be hard. I am finding her when I turn 21 so we can go out! She's gotta be fun!
I am not a science person and this class is designed for non science majors, but it is still a lot of information to grasp. Hodgson is a really nice lady and very helpful, but this is not an easy A! You don't need to buy the book bc her tests only come from the lectures. Take it if u HAVE to.
I didnt mind going to this lab, especially since i had it @ 8am. She responds to emails very fast and will tell you exactly what she wants. Quizzes are very straightforward and will help with whatever you need. I left early alot but got A's on all my quizzes. Use the lab manual and make notecards!!
Lab was extremely hard, however Mrs. Hodgson was very helpful and works with the students as much as she can. She is also very hilarious!
she is very easy and nice, always lets us out of lab & lecture early, very straightforward method of teaching
An excellent professor. She clear and extremely helpful, and she's so funny. I hate science and I loved her class. I highly recommend her.
DO NOT TAKE OVER SUMMER if you have any kind of life. She is not helpful in the summer AT ALL.You are pretty much guessing what is on the tests and the information crammed is unbelievable. I'm amazed at the reviews.I'm a non-traditional student and take this seriously just to let you know that It's not because I didn't study;I barely passed
She tries to be funny, I think its to make up for the fact she really does not know all that she thinks she knows. Very unprepared and never could answer questions when asked
Ahe tries to cram a ridiculous amount of info in before each test...i.e. and entire system the day before a test...and expect you to know that plus 20 or more other pages of notes and figures...yeah it's summer but seriously what the crap...at least answer students questions
She's a horrible instructor. She gets very annoyed if you ask her questions and interupt her. She is also very flippant with students. Tests are barely passable, and she tells students in class they are stupid for not spelling words correctly. She emphasizes one thing in class, and tests on something completely diffent. Doen't give sources either.
Terrible. I still got an A, but she definitely TRIED to fail me.
Very nice and funny lady she is very helpful as a lab instructor, wouldn't recommend her for class though. She likes to have fun, definetly take her for lab
Hard Tests! Must Study! Study book & pictures in book. All mult.choice tests. Don't wait until last minute to study. Labs help bring grade up & labs last about an hour. Studied for all 4 tests & 2 lab practicals & the highest grade I ever earned was a low B. Extra credit available. Must do a group presentation. Hard Work!!! Nice Professor.
She didn't really know what she was talking about half the time, and she crams a lot of info in before exams. Exams aren't too bad- study the book though, the notes aren't really helpful.
I only had her for lab but lab sucks. Mostly lecture, not much hands-on. Study for lab quizes cause they are a 100 points and only 20-25 questions. Anal about histology notebooks. She likes it if you color code it. Can get extra credit for having it done if she likes how you did it.
Funny lady, makes the class fun. She's good at explaining things, and posts her powerpoints online. You DO NOT need to buy the textbook. Just the lab manual.
Respect for students was poor along with professionalism. I would not recommend her to anyone.
Rude, nasty, doesn't answer emails. Acts like you should consider it a privilege to be "allowed" in her class. Very unprofessional, can't answer simple questions. Obviously has NO life so she assumes no one else does either. All the other bio teachers I've had were great...She is horrible.
Extremely rude to students. Does not allow students to use the restroom during class time, has a shut door policy.
i took a&p I over the summer. hardest class ever! I'm not a slacker at all, but i just could not keep up! it was impossible to unless you had prior bio knowledge. if you really need to know the info for your future occupation, do not take this class with her! you just cram and let it all go after the tests. plus she treats students like 5th graders
Loved the class. I did not enjoy Biology in HS but she made this class fun and easy. I easily got an A without a lot of work. She offers a lot of extra credit.
Took her for summer A&P. Definitely a very hard teacher to learn from. Rude, is not available for students. Basically I read through all the negative comments about her before this class and would have to agree with every single one. If you want to learn DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF!!!!!
Took her for A/P 1 lab. Lab consists of quizes every class and dissection or histology. Harsh grader & mean. Quizes are on "everything we covered" and the lab book. Does not prepare students well. I got an A bc I'm very intelligent, not bc she was of any help. I'm taking Daly for A/P 2 lab/lecture. Don't take her, other lab instructors are better.
I don't understand why everyone hates her so much. I took her for A&P 1 and took Daly for 2 and was extremely disappointed because I love how Hodgson teaches so much better than Daly. She made the info easier to understand and ALSO has bonus quizzes. She's the only one that has a review session the night before an exam too, which I really enjoyed.
Hard class material wise, however she makes it extremely fun and interesting!!! She does everything possible for you to understand the material. If you put in the time and effort YOU WILL get rewarded!!!
don't let all these comments scare you. the class itself is very hard and you MUST do work to succeed, but professor hodgson is extremely helpful and does everything to help. take advantage of asking her for help and MAKE SURE YOU STUDY! she is a very helpful teacher and knows what she is talking about!
Hodgson is a very good professor, in my opinion. She likes to joke around and have fun, but also knows her stuff. I have her for A/P and I really like her teaching style. No complaints.
Incredible professor, really knows her stuff! Disregard the negative comments--if you're willing to be the student you should you'll pass. Fair and helpful. TAKE HER!
I LOVE THIS WOMAN. definitely take her for a/p lecture and lab together. she knows what she is talking about and she knows how to explain concepts thoroughly. her tests are long and in depth... you need to study and read the text book. she writes a lot on the board, so sit near the front of the class so you can see.
She was a great professor, really interested in helping you learn the material. The class itself is very hard, but she introduces topics in interesting and fun way. Helps to have a solid background in the material. She is fair in her grading for the most part, and really wants your to know all about A and P coming out of her class!
I found her to be a bit unprofessional. She was always late and left us in the lab with lab assistants half of the time. She runs through the material really fast and assumes that you already know a lot of the information, but if you read the book and study before lectures you will pass.
There's a pre-lab due every class as well as a quiz. Then you must fill out a post-lab. She teaches the information well but talks for almost an hour an half every lab and gives hardly any time to finish the post-lab.
Hodgson is one of my favorite professors here at York. She is very clear and concise when it comes to explaining material. She really does want her students to succeed and gives them the tools to do so. She won't hold your hand along the way, but she is very approachable when help is needed. I loved her class.
Rude, doesn't know the material. She takes points for spelling wrong, but she doesn't spell correctly herself. You can tell she read the textbook to teach herself because she doesn't really know the material. Confusing lecturer and she makes you feel like you're still in high school. She makes rude comments about students. $350 in books, didn't use
Hodgson really wants her students to succeed. If you don't do well in the class it is probably because you didn't study enough, not that she didn't teach it. Lecture tests are all multiple choice. Lab is hard, but it would be regardless of the professor. She makes learning fun and will give many examples to try to get you to understand the concept.
Professor Hodgson is a great teacher. She is very thorough, however, she does like to rush thorough things and make you teach yourself. She also can be moody, it just depends on the day. However, she brings you food sometimes and that makes her the bomb!
Good professor. You will learn in this class if you pay attention. The grade you receive is the grade you put the effort in to get. I liked her for lab more than lecture. I felt that whenever someone asked a question, she responded as if we were stupid. She did bring in food once. She has a good personality outside of class making her approachable.
She is ok as a professor, but very difficult to talk to and kind of moody sometimes. Also a difficult grader. I had her for lab, not lecture.
This professor to be very nice and knowledgable. However, she can be very moody as well. Sometimes not very approachable. Rushes through material. LOTS of work outside of class. Be prepared to teach yourself important concepts she doesn't cover in class. Textbook is a MUST to succeed and so is coming to class.
I took A&P 2 over the summer with her and didn't find her terrible. The tests were pretty in-depth, but it was multiple choice except for the case files at the end. I enjoyed how she tied everything together to reinforce what was learned in the previous chapters. That said: she can come off as unapproachable and a bit brash, but you'll get over it.
Professor Hodgson is an intelligent lady and knows in depth of what she is talking about. Good professor to have for lab, not lecture. In lecture she tends to skip over notes and then tests you on it. Will assign homework at the last minute. Takes no responsibility, two classes did poorly on the free response of an exam and blamed us for doing bad.
Completely unprofessional and disrespectful. Nursing student? You're already on her bad side. In all my years of college (over 100 credits) absolutely worst professor I have ever met! Accommodations? Don't expect to be able to use them with her. You are an inconvenience to her and she makes that very well known! Go for Patton! She's awesome!
I had prof Hodgson for both anatomy 1 and 2. Her tests were very hard and mostly application questions. if you didn't know the info inside and out you would not pass. she would give some feedback but blamed the student if we did not do well. i feel as though i learned a lot but still was unable to do well
Prof Hodgson is extremely hard but shes a super sweet lady. You have to work for the grades but once she sees you try she will most likely like you. Try your hardest- the curriculum is hard and all of the professors are too.
Professor Hodgson is without exaggeration the WORST professor Ive ever had. Completely unreasonable, arrogant, and condescending. She will make you feel stupid if you ask for clarification on the subject so dont bother asking questions. As a nursing student I had no chance but to take this class. If you have the choice do NOT take her!!!
Literally the worst professor I have met. She started the intro to our class with making us watch a video about if you have personal or family emergencies you basically must set them aside to cater to her course, then cancels class twice in one semester and didntgo back to cover the missed material. DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO PASS!
Exams are worth everything in this class. Sweet lady, but definitely often comes off as demanding and arrogant. I would recommend taking someone else if you can - she makes the class harder than it already is.
I would highly advise against Professor Hodgson for your advisor and for your professor. You're better off avoiding her in general-- she is rude, arrogant, and uncaring. She will not go out of her way to help you, which made her a terrible advisor and made her class all-around miserable. Go for Dr. Patton-- she's great!!
Yeah... no. Rude and not a great teacher. Anatomy is too hard of a class to have a professor who doesn't genuinely want you to succeed. Other profs are better for sure, try to avoid
I cannot stress enough to try and take anatomy with another professor. Don't bother trying to ask questions during lecture because she will make a complete fool out of you. Very inconsiderate and does not care about your success in the class. Makes inappropriate jokes in class. She will act like she wants to help you, but she won't.
Professor Hodgson has no respect for her students. Repeatedly she's given attitude to any student who asks a question. When reaching out to her about difficulty in her class, I received extremely rude and unprofessional emails belittling me. She ignores student emails and has no regard for a student's outside life that effects their schooling.
Professor Hodgson is definitely hard. However, if you make an effort to show that you care and are willing to work for your grade, you will do fine. She is super nice and her lectures are easy to understand as long as you print her outlines and fill them in before class. It is a little heavy on the work, but just stay on top of it!
I had Professor Hodgson for Summer I semester taking A+P I. She was so nice, made class fun, and was overall a very good professor. Her outlines are very helpful for lecture. I have her again in the fall for A+P II and I am looking forward to it.
I had her for AP 1 and 2. You will learn A LOT. But these two classes were the bane of my college existence my sophmore year. Those lab practicals will HAUNT YOU. She will pick on you and hold attendance against you. Even if you are sick, she will be upset at you missing class. She looks at her emails late and may not always respond. Be prepared.
shes only there to do the bare minimum- teach. she doesnt care who you are or what youre going through. her class must be your top priority and if its not, you WILL struggle. shes extremely aggressive towards anyone whos confused or struggling, so dont expect any help out of her.
I would never take this Professor again. She wasnt good nor liked to wear her mask properly. She wasnt organized or professional. She was a terrible professor to say the least. She didnt teach the material well. Went everywhere within the outline. She did vidgrids that were worth like 3 points for 45 minutes. She doesnt want to see succeed.
Dr. Hodgson is one of the worst professors I have ever had. -teaching style: okay, but slow -power trip: many, she enjoyed belittling and embarrassing students -availability: none! If your email was not deemed important, she would not respond (she never responded to a single one of mine). In the final there was a glitch, and she was nowhere!
She was a really good professor but had very hard tests and graded hard. Listening to lectures and taking notes will be the biggest help. When I took this class she had a lot of lectures on vidgrids which was the hard part. She is very nice.
Lectures and information are primarily done through vidgrids and outside class studying. Exams are very hard and all the information is not given in class so the textbook is necessary to read for success (outline does not have all necessary info needed). Does not answer emails either ever or days later, do not expect a response in a timely manner.
Shearer did a great job teaching HSC 100. Lectures include many guest lecturers, and the post-lesson discussion boards are easy. Gives extra credit if turn works in early.
Dr. Shearer was the worst teacher IveEVER had. She made me feel so stupid and made me lose all passion for nursing, resulting in me changing my major. DO NOT take her for anatomy unless you want to cry constantly and live in a state of confusion. Terrible communicator, unprofessional, arrogant and flat-out rude. I don't know how she still has a job
I took her for my medical terminology class. This class is very easy and although there is a lot of homework its very easy busy work that she lets you work on in class. There is usually one group assignment every week which is also usually very easy. She doesn't grade harshly at all and there are weekly online quizzes but no tests.
I loved Professor Shearer. She was extremely flexible and would give points back if you talk to her during office hours. She does give a ton of assignments however, but they are all relatively easy.
I really enjoyed being in Professor Shearer's class. I felt that she was very approachable and helpful when I needed it. She assigns lots of homework. At first, it was hard to get adjusted to this class, but once I got into the habit of doing my homework BEFORE the lecture, I felt more confident in the material and I saw improvement in my grades.
I love taking all of the classes that I had with her. She grades easy and explains things very well.
I had her for FYS120 and I enjoyed having her. Be prepared to do a lot of group work as that is like 85% of the class/classwork. She was helpful as needed, but did not have a lot of lecture-based teaching. Most of it was research you did yourself or taught by guest speakers.
Professor Shearer keeps her HSC100 class engaging with guest lecturers. The assignments are manageable, and extra credit is available for early submissions. I found unstuckstudy helpful for exam prep alongside the course materials.
This professor was a complete disappointment. Her lectures were disorganized, and she didn't seem to care about students understanding of the material. The class felt like a waste of time. It's obvious she doesnt put much effort into teaching. Do yourself a favor and take this class with someone else if you can! Horrible!!!!
0 late work policy is incredibly demotivating, so if you miss some stuff early on you're screwed. She's a nice lady, but we ONLY do group work all class, EVERY class, even when it doesn't make any sense to do so. Nearly 0 lecture for this class, just group packets and projects all class long.
Prof. Shearer creates an interactive environment in class. LOTS of group assignments :(. As long as you practice briefly before spelling quizzes and try to have a general understanding of the curriculum, you'll have fun and succeed. Her grading is easy and her in-class activities like jeopardy are fun! Just review and attend class!!
