Hard teacher. Too many papers expected and she is a tough grader. Don't expect an A or B. STAY AWAY
She is likeable and interesting, but her tests are wicked hard! Tests very different from the way she teaches. Still, she's a good teacher and worth the effort. Probably will not get an A or B in her class.
not your typical 101 level class. though her lectures were clear and easy to understand, they were nowhere near the amount of information needed to get a good grade on the tests. i wouldn't agree that it is impossible to get an a on her tests and in her class, you just have to work extremely hard.
Hard teacher, condescending too
She is a little weird. But likable. Her class consists of powerpoint slides. Her tests are a bit hard. A lot of papers, and she is a ciation nazi. She will give you a bad grade if you do not site her style. CBE...what the **** is that!?
She is funny/sarchastic and knows what she is talking about. NOT HARD! SHOW UP and take notes. Tests are more cognitive than just remembering the facts. I study for about an 1 1/2 before the exam and recieved an 87 and a 93 so far. she lets you have CHEAT SHEETS! I expect a B in the class.
i cant believe there is anyone who would say its extremely difficult to get an A in her class.... she lets you use cheat sheets for the exams, and she lets you revise papers. She is entertaining, nice, and helpful. stop being lazy and do some work, and like myself, you will get an A.
a fun person :) if you find yourself thinking 'she probably doesn't expect us to know ALL of this' you will probably be wrong. there is a lot of material in this class but she explains it well and you will learn a lot.
She has a great teaching personality in the class room. SHe is a bit vague in some areas when she explains assignments. SHe loves the dreaded group projects..and grades them as one paper no matter what slackers are in your group.
If you don't like to write essays and keep yourself busy, I suggest you not to go with her. TOO MUCH work!! Good luck to whoever's having her.
shes a really nice person but she has alot of work to do. and make sure you read the assignment cleary and do the extra credit. its to watch a movie and explain it. she will def. help you if you need it. her quizes are hard but her exams are fairly easy because they are most of the quiz questions and she gives you the answers from the quiz.shes nic
I've only had her class now for about 3 weeks and I can tell I'm already in for a long semester. She's nice, likable, easy to understand. Very sarcastic, a little weird. Hard grader, write your papers to perfection because she is a citation nazi. Show up everyday, you get 4 pts. each day you are there. A little quick on the powerpoint slides.
Beautiful, sarcastic, and funny. Attendance is mandatory but she keeps class interesting and it moves pretty quick. The only real effort was for the group project, tests werent too bad. Lab was a lot of fun, went on 4 or 5 trips and spent most of the time outside the classroom, make lab reports detailed and youll do good.
the hardest teacher i've had at essex so far. she needs to be teaching honors classes cause she makes you learn way more than you need to. her quizes and tests are impossible to pass even if you study. WORST BIO teacher ever. not willing to help at all. she's funny but her class sux.
very very difficult class. her tests and quizzes are incredibly tough. and she is INSANE on citations and plagiarisms. i wouldnt recommend her for biol 109 at all. SO much work!
I thought she was very nice and helpful! Study study study! Gives reviews and write your papers. She does like citing so cite everything! Gives a lot of points so you have lots of opportunity. I recommend her if you plan to study and go to class!
Dr. S knows her stuff. Its a hard class, stay on top of your notes-add to the power points provided!!! She is willing to help you and is down to earth. Its a college class so be ready to study and work hard for a good grade. I thought she was fair and learned a lot from her. I enjoyed her as a teacher.
She gives great lectures, but otherwise it was a horrible class. In all of my days in high school and college, I have never received anything less then an A; and in this class I was getting a C. I have found from all of the lectures she has given us in class, that none of the information is relevant to any of her quizzes and tests. I have never had
This course is much harder compared to the ENVS 101. The book is well laid out, but there is no way to easily do any of the labs. The book doesnâ??t give many of the equations that are required for the problems, and neither does she. Do not take this class with her, take it with a different teacher. If I get a chance to take this class with a diffe
Do not take this class with this teacher. She did not get along with some of the students in my class. I am good at environmental scinece. I expected to get a B in the class I didn't. She doesn't get anything back to you on time. Also fun labs for envs 102. But some of the equations are not given in the book and she doesn't give you the equations.
this class was horrible. her lectures have nothing to do with the tests. shes weird, she doesnt tell you whats going to be on the test at all about 30 percent of what she talks about in class may be on the test. She is crazy about citations CSE style is what u need to use
I would recommend that you don't take her class because she never hands back class assignments back in time and never once used the book in class. She kind off goes off topic and she is also kind of strange. The only thing good about her class is that she allows you to have cheat sheets for tests but other than that she is a horrible teacher.
dr. shrader is a great teacher but you really do have to pay attention in class and listen to what she says. she makes things interesting and relevent and can relate to students well if they give her the oppertunity. all of her powerpoints can be found on webct and shes very easy to get in touch with. i loved her class and was sad when it was over
I enjoyed Dr. Shrader's teaching style. Never did I drift away from her lectures. You do have to read the textbook because there are a few questions on her tests that she doesn't talk about in class. Many people think she is too difficult. She allows for cheat sheets, makes attendance worth a large part of your grade, puts many of the same EXACT qu
She is the the rudest B***H I have ever encountered. She makes you not want to ask a question because she always mocks people and laughs. I've had her before and I liked her but recently she's horrible. I hate her and her impossible quizzes.
She once told someone that this is college level class. True however she needs to be told this is a community college and a 1 credit class. I got straight B's on all my other hard 3 credit classes but she gave me a D which is non transferable for a stupid lab. I got a high B in evns 101 by another teacher by a D for a lab? Think about it here.
She was great! She wouldn't let you fail as long as you tried! She gives you partial credit if you only do part of a question. She is justa great teacher. I never even opened my textbook.
I wouldn't recommend anyone taking this class at all. She grades way too hard and 10 students dropped out of the class!! Now, what does that say about her?? EXACTLY! SHE'S A HORRIBLE TEACHER! FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DID LIKE HER, THEY MUST HAVE BEEN ONE OF HER FAVORITES! NO MATTER HOW GOOD YOU DO ON A PAPER, SHE WILL FAIL YOU! NO JOKE!!!
Dr. Shrader is a great teacher and is funny. She provides you with a lot of material to do well in her class. Her quizzes may seem hard at first, but as long as you take good notes, and pay attention you will do well. Keep papers simple and get to the point (show that you did your homework). Too bad she is not teaching any other classes.
Perhaps, if she wasn't so arrogant she wouldn't be so condescending and would realize that it is an entry level community college course. Her head is 5 times the size it should be, congrats, you have your Doctrite, but guess what? You are divorced, not as cute as you think and demeaning. I don't feel comfortable coming going to her w/any issue.
She was a very good teacher, she was very helpful. Show up on time, do the required work, stay for the whole class and you will have no problems. Cry, whine, and complain and don't do the required work and you will be like these other idiots making excuses for their failures.
If you take her class, you should have enough time to study on it because you have to take 4 quizzes and exams, and you have to do two case studies. I don't think this class is not worth to do all of these because I I had to spent most of my time to study it. Her class is really hard.
The class was difficult, but fair. It's definitely possible to get an A (I did) if you do your required reading. My main gripe is that she takes off way too many points for citation mistakes, especially since she makes you use CSE, when every other class uses APA or MLA. There's no reason for that kind of harshness. Would not take her again.
Easy on the eyes, but that is her only good quality. Her teaching lacks focus, and her exams are terrible. Stay away!
Dropped this course last semester cuz she acted like it was a 400 level course, when its simply a 100 level course! She doesnt even grade for content, she grades for everything else, god forbid you forgot a hyphen, 10 points off! It's ridiculous. Its a general credit a lot of us have to take yet she makes you hate your life. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
This is one of the worst classes I've taken here in the 2 years I've been taking classes at CCBC. This teacher is condescending, and does not grade assignments in a timely matter. She takes off points for things she didn't specify were necessary. I would never take this class again. She comes across smug even in text. I am highly disappointed
i showed up to class, did the assignments, and asked when i was unsure about something. I put forth some effort and did well. The answers to the homework are in the book, the answers to the tests are on the homeworkpractice tests . It's as simple as that. Also Know the info on the study guides she provides. Complainers, stop expecting a handout...
Oh very bad teacher I took the class online please stayed away from her
Prof. Shrader is the most unhelpful and condescending professor I have ever had. Her online class is extremely difficult. You work day after day on tedious assignments which are worth practically no points, and then are nit picked and reduced even further in points because of her hard grading style. I e-mailed her requesting help, and she refused.
This by far is the worst class that I have ever taken in my entire college career. She by far is the worst professor walking the Grounds of CCBC. She thinks she is funny and has a very dull sense of humor. She also thinks she is cute when in reality she is ugly. I would never take her class again in my life. Hope I never see her again.
She is a great and enthusiastic teacher. Funny and highly quotable "fish do it every which way" And so damn easy on the eyes, that it's almost distracting.
Shrader's Environmental Science lecture and lab have been the worst experiences by far in my college career. I am an honors student with A's and B's, yet in both of her classes, I have a D. She grades like she should be teaching honors. Most of my deductions on assignments came from nit-picking. Study or not, it's likely you wont do well. She's bad
I don't know how she got to teach a required course at CCBC. She is so annoying that its ridiculous. She doesn't like students and she doesn't respond to emails. If you value your education don't take her class. She will fail you. She will do it for smart.
Shrader is one of the most challenging professors I've worked with in my college career. You are able to do well in her lecture and lab, but you REALLY have to work for it. Even though this was a tough class, I still would have rather taken this than biology or chem.
This was definitely the most difficult class I have ever taken at CCBC. I took this class during my final semester before graduating, and it contributed to a lot of my stress during that time. Shrader is a VERY tough grader, and is very sarcastic. I believe she made this class a lot more difficult than it had to be. I suggest you chose another Prof
I'm currently taking her course online and find the comments on graded assignments completely ridiculous. I spend about 10-12 hours a week on her class alone. She is more concerned with the proper use of English language than about the content of the response. I do not recommend anyone to take her class, you'll work hard and end up frustrated.
She is unclear of her work. In the beginning of class it was unclear what was needed. She is long winded on grading assignment. It has been 3 months and my assignment is still not graded.
Took this class back in Spring 2013, way before I knew of this site. This being my major, I was eager to take this class but she changed that. You can get a good grade if you put in the time and effort but don't expect an A. She grades like she lectures; condescendingly. Has a tendency to boast her education and regard her opinions as superior.
She comes across very condescending and unapproachable. The content of the class was interesting and valuable. She gives several opportunities for extra credit, and although she is a nit-picky grader she gives clear feedback on assignments. She let us use cheat sheets on the exams. She takes attendance every class.
Shrader is a great teacher and awesome person. However, do not take her class if you are simply trying to cruise through environmental science, she will whoop you and give you a C. If you are going to put forth effort and participate, then you will love this class because she is pretty much the best that CCBC has to offer. Definitely the hottest.
Motivation in the beginning but it later turned into frustration. First, she wouldn't take late assignments, not even with doctor's note or a minute beyond the due time. Second, be prepared to work extremely hard. She gave 3-4 assignment a week. However, the 3 exams and final is a huge part of your grade so drop the course if you fell 1 of 4.
Does not explain things well. Overload of work. Should not be an online instructor. Does not write directions clear enough and grades very tough.
I took Shrader for EVS101. This was the last class I needed to graduate and I was very excited. I knew I made a mistake very early on. I would spend hours on her assignments to only get a failing grade. She nit picked about EVERYTHING which caused me to lose points. Taking this class was a huge mistake and caused me not to graduate on time.
The class is based heavy on the textbook and the online assignments. If you attend class and follow the power points she posts on blackboard you will pass with no problem.
Teacher was very knowledgeable and intelligent. Did her best to make lectures "fun." The was overall inspirational and the material interesting. However, the class was very difficult and did not feel like a beginning level class at all. I spent hours studying for this course just to pass. Take this class if you really have an interest, and like hw.
Took forever to grade lab reports. Often would leave condescending comments on graded lab reports. Insists that you read the lab before class, and then quizzes you on the lab as soon as you arrive in class (before doing the lab and actually seeing the outcome of the experiment.) Oh and don't ask her questions, or expect a condescending comment.
Nit Picked Everything- Very Condesending
Dr Shrader is fair. Do your work, show up, participate. If you are real with her she is real with you. She is a down to earth professor who understands that life happens. Great with explaining things on multiple levels. She was very flexible and accommodating (if the situation warrants) You really will not find a better professor. LOL + + on hot
Don't take this professors class. Unless you are a mind reader and a grammar nazi you will loose copious amounts of points for reasons you will never really understand. Her rubrics are detailed but unclear and you will loose for things not stated. Otherwise the class is super easy; almost common sense and the exams come directly from the Quizzes.
Shrader is an absolute pleasure to be taught by. She really knows her stuff and will make sure that you do too. She makes you earn your grade in her course by really knowing the material and applying it. I've taken a class with her twice and continue to enjoy her strong and applicable teaching style. Never enjoyed a professor more than her!!
I was first excited to take this class, it later turned out to be stressful. Would definitely not take her again nor recommend her to anyone. Spent a lot of time working on her assignments and she would take points off on irrelevant things. I worked hard, attended to class, did extra credit, but it wasn't enough to get a higher grade.
Very good professor if you follow instructions. She will help you if you need it. Be careful with grammar and citations. She is very passionate about the course material.
Shrader comes off as a sarcastic brat, and expects everyone to be on the same page. She is brutal when it comes to grading, ANYTHING. She will take the smallest thing and use it against you. But if you take this class, she will mock you unconsiderably, and fail you even if you are doing everything to succeed. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
First, She is a tough grader. Even though you do what she asks-her feedback would be "see rubric" even though you did! You HAVE to do it 100% perfectly , the more info the better and dont forget to cite! I took it online and if you do make sure you do every assignment and put all your focus in them because as i said-she is a tough grader.
Dr. Shrader was not the easiest professor to workno clear answers to questions. Interesting material tho. TIPS: use correct Council of Science Editors citation, study your graphs (X and Y axis) and detail question responses. I was determined to earn an A and I did by studying hard and taking advantage of any extra credit assignments she posed.
Pretty heavy workload on a weekly basis. Assignments were not always clear and if they were, she would act like your stuff wasn't all there. Cite everything! Study your quizzes, this is helpful! Overall, she responds quickly, but definitely a tough grader. I am holding onto a 86-87%. Hoping for a 90% once three more items get graded. Work hard.
Do not take this Professor, by far the worst at CCBC I have seen in the 3 years I have been here. She is a very very very tough grader and half the time can not get your assignments because she can only get certain formats. Never had a problem in any other class so I repeat if there is no other option for a professor, go to a different college.
Dr. Shrader can be a bit abrasive, but she is pretty cool. She will make you earn your grade. The group work sucks. So take control and always check over groups assignments before submitting it. She does not grade fast, but she does provide feedback. She has high expectations, but I don't think that is a bad thing. Nothing worth having comes easy
Material did not match with the test and homework. You will never be able to receive positive feedback ad when you email to inquire about an assignment Dr. Shrader is very rude and unprofessional. If you can avoid this professor take my advice and the advice you have read about this professor because it is very accurate.
Great professor, really cares and makes time for students achievement. That being said you have to put in the work as well! It's not a free easy pass class, I studied hard and passed my exams when didnt study I failed- that being said hard work is mandatory to pass this class. Heavy use of Mastering assignments as well.
Avoid this teacher if you can. I worked so hard to get an a in this class. I got a 95% on my final and still it wasnt enough to earn an A. I ended the course with a 89.1. All the assignments are graded on things that do not pertain to the lesson. Points are taken off for things she does not even explain. This professor ruined ENVS for me.
Absolutely zero mercy on the grade sheet. I had a medical emergency that held me back from the first two weeks of the semester and even though I got high Bs on my 3rd and 4th test and a 92% on the final she found a way to keep my grade under a C. You definitely have to find a way to make her happy throughout the semester to get a passing grade.
I've graduated, and I'm at a University now, and I still can't forget this instructor. My original review of her was removed. I think it was because she reported it and I was very critical. I'm a straight-A student, and I cheered when I saw my final grade was a C. I srsly suggest going to a different school if she's your only option. It's all true!
After reading about this professor, I was stressed all summer about taking this class, but I didn't have another option. I found that this class was not as difficult as many people made it out to be, but you have to do the work, study, and come to class. She is a kind, funny, and gives good feedback. She can be sarcastic, but she is not at all rude
Do not register, i repeat do not register for this professor every bad rating about her is accurate. She always want to find a wrong about a student rather than a good. She doesnt know what going on with her student and always looks for ways to fail student. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR PLEASE!!!!!
Anyone who is thinking about enrolling in Shrader's class, think again unless you want to spend 15 weeks jumping through hoops trying to give her exactly the answer she is looking for. She's a very democratic teacher (which I expected from ENVS) but she was more close minded than any other teachers I've had. Very close minded and in her own bubble.
She is not a good professor. She is tough and judgmental. Her exams are not easy, and her assignments are astronomical. I would not take her, never again. She is funny when she talks to students before class but that is it.
I have taken upwards of 40 courses at a variety of colleges/universities, and I've never felt the need to write about any other professor until now. She contradicts her assignment instructions with her rubric on purpose so that she can take arbitrary points away. I could write pages about what she did wrong, do not take this course.
I am currently taking her class and it is horrible. Through email and teams, she is very nice. She is super strict with grading. She makes my online class miserable. You have to get written approval to take an exam at home while taking an ONLINE class. I do not recommend taking her class at all. save yourself the headache, please.
She is strict than she needs to be.
Great class, but a lot of work. If you follow directions and study you will do fine. Plus extra credit was easy to accomplish. She explicitly tells you what every essay question will be and what content will be on the test while going through that content. Pay attention. Prof is easy going and always positive, clearly passionate about content.
She was horrible. I just had her for an ENVS101 class, and she is a really strict grader. She also expects things that aren't clearly outlined in assignment directions, then grades you badly and provides feedback as if it were obvious that you are supposed to do something (this stuff was definitely not obvious). Do not take her.
I would NOT take this class again because she was a difficult person to work with. She is strict about turning in assignments on time but takes her sweet time to grade our work. Her instructions her assignments were not clear. She expected us to finish her 30 multiple test questions and 5 short essays in an hour... DO NOT take this class.
This is going to be controversial, but I like Dr. Shrader. She is passionate and invested in her career, and she takes environmental science seriously (as she should). If you don't show up on time, don't show up at all, or don't study, you will not pass. She provides top tier, quality education, and I'm thankful for the challenge and opportunity.
I just finished her class and I had quite a complicated relationship with her. I would go to her office hours and she would help me I would make the changes and she would still find a way to take points off for dumb things. Super nice teacher just not worth the risk of failing a course. The hardest grader I have ever had and it seems Im not alone.
Don't take this class, it is not worth it. Find someone better to teach the course because she is the rudest instructor i've ever had. She always had something to say even when you would try to get a better grade. Wish i never took her. She is the worst.
If you show up to class, take notes and study an A is totally achievable! Dr. S is very passionate. I've learned a ton and I leave feeling inspired every class. READ THE RUBRIC FOR ASSIGNMENTS! Do practice quizzes before exams, the extra credit options, and if you do more than 15 hours of community service then you are exempt from the final
dont walk... run away while you still can!
Protect your sanity and find a different section with any other professor.
She is an intelligent woman, but her class doesn't feel like a 101 class. It was too hard for me. I got an A on the final and a D in the class. That would have been my last class. Feel like I worked sooo hard for nothing. If I ever become a teacher, I want my students to learn and not be stressed. Brillant woman just super tuff!
I've taken two classes with Dr. S, earning an A in both. While her classes are challenging, they're not as impossible as some reviews suggest. Many of these reviews seem to come from students who struggle with receiving feedback from a strong, assertive, and intelligent woman. Personally, I had no issues with her attitude or grading criteria.
This is genuinely the worst professor I have ever dealt with. She will accuse you of using AI on work that you did yourself. Ironically, she uses AI to grade your paper, which will show incorrectly if you have an inkling of a brain and can use your own knowledge to write the paper because apparently no one can write as good as AI!
Worst teacher I've ever had. All throughout my learning years. Kindergarten to now. Always finds negative in work and accusations of plagiarism are left and right. She's in a ball game of her own at CCBC. Look all classes are important, but even if you're not majoring in science she gives it to you up the ass. Highly do not recommend
