Best teacher I have ever had!
this may sound bad but i love the way she makes you feel like you're back in elementary. (it's DEFINITELY A COMPLIMENT though!) she takes the time to explain things very thoroughly and it was actually fun and i HATE english classes. it was fun because her topic choices for writing assignmetns aren't boring and it didnt feel like a difficult, strict, college course. she's great!
Awesome teacher!... easy, but you learn a lot! Great to take for both 101 & 102!
She was a great teacher. I never liked english, nor the best at it, but she made me enjoy it and I got an A.
She's adorable! please take her class you will not regret it. She made writting fun and she gives TONS i mean TONS of extra credit! so there si no way you cant get an A in her class... good luck!
Very nice teacher and her class is easy. She's extremely helpful if you need it and allows tons of extra credit.
Great Class! Learned alot from her. If you pay attention and do the homework this should not be difficult.
Mrs. Simpson is a very awesome teacher. She is crystal clear on what she wants from you and is very understanding if you have personal issues. Hihly recommended.
Mrs. Simpson is a very nice and thoughtful lady. Whatever topic your not understanding, Mrs. Simpson is always there to help you succeed in her class. Also, Mrs. Simpson class will make you a better writer, and she makes everyone in class feel real comfortable with the way she teaches. Best English teacher I ever had! Highly recommend her to all
it was a breeze, taking her again for 102.
Best teacher EVER!! She is extremely nice. I'm definitly going to take her 102 class no doubt. She makes it fun to come to class. I don't know about the extra credit thing though all she's given us this semester is 20 points for going to book club. Which is ok because i do well anyways in her class. Hopefully her 102 class is just as good
Ms. Simpson is an awesome teacher. She doesn't use a book except a course hand out which is just pages explaining about the essays in class. It's very helpful. The essays are about ourselves mainly so it's very easy to write.
I thought she was tougher than my ENG 102 class. I also thought that I learned more from her class. One really bad thing though, if you hand a paper in even a day late, she will cut the points in half. I had that happen only once, but it was hard watching an A paper go to D, that was ugly.
the class was very top heavy. There was so much due within the first two weeks it was almost overwhelming. If you do the work well however it makes the rest of the semester a breeze.
I LOVE HER!!!
she's ok i guess. lots of work. you must time and effort, but definetly worth it. you will write a lot but i've heard some instructors being worse. jst take her! you'll be fine.
she is a great teacher and uses her own book for the class that is only like 13 bucks. She always makes time for questions. There is a fair amount of work but come on, we're in college now!
Great teacher. Very willing to work with you and is flexible. Fair grader and just a sweetheart of a person. I fully recommend her to anyone who wants a fun and cheap (book is only like $15.00) experience in 102
She's extremely awesome. Very enjoyable, helpful, sweet. Concerned with your success, really wants you to pass, loved coming to her class everyday.
She is so nice and always willing to help. She is pretty strict about the assignment deadlines but if you talk with her ahead of time, she is pretty understanding. I am taking her classes whenever I can.
I feel like I got my money's worth and learned a lot, especially in how to compose a research paper. Mrs. Simpson has a way of explaining everything that just makes sence and keeps you on track with all your assignments. I would highly recommend this teacher to anyone who is looking for a good English teacher for a class they're taking.
You do a lot of work. You have about 4 to 6 different essays you will write. Everything you do during the year, you put together for a portfolio which is your final. Very nice because she gives you back old papers and all you have to do is fix them. It is a easy A if you keep up with the work load during the year.
You won't find boring lectures or mindless reading assignments here. This class is fun, hands on, and if you are willing you'll succeed. Great feed back from Prof. Simpson on all your essays. You'll be more then happy.
She grades hard and is not helpful, when you ask her for help. She pushes you off to writing center which is a waste of time.Does not help you understand what are doing wrong so you can fix it.
I took the 101 honors class, and the work was hard but completely managable. She has a great personality, and though she says to go to the writing center for help I emailed her with questions all year and she'd always get back to me. Every once in awhile she gave feedback that didn't make sense to me, but I still got A's on every essay.
I haven't been to school in 10+ yrs, and walking in to her class was a bit stressful the first 2-3 weeks. There is a lot of writing to do, however, if you stay on course, the semester flies by. It was rewarding to see my papers I worked so hard on and sacrificed sleep for turn into something tangible and I can see my growth right there.
Her Intro to Lit. class is not easy, but if you pay attention it isn't hard either. There's a LOT of reading (including in class) and writing assignments. There was no final exam, just a paper that consisted of 6 essay questions. She is fair when it comes to grading, and even allows redo of a paper if you argue for a better grade. Interesting class
Excellent teacher! She doesn't mess around, keeps you involved and taps into your brain. If you are a slacker, of course you won't do well. It's college! Very professional instructor and you will look at reading in a whole new way.
Mrs. Simpson's approach to teaching my class has been patient, concise, and intellectually engaging. She uses subject research material that people actually have opinions on, keeping us motivated no the task at hand.
She was a wonderful teacher. In this class she refreshed our grammatical skills while writing and taught us new ones.
Great instructor. Does not baby students and let them cruise through like some professors. Excellent teaching style, great lessons, thoroughly enjoyed the class. If you need a Humanities credit and enjoy the theater take ENH110 with Prof. Simpson!
Awesome instructor!! I would take her class over and over again, and I do not enjoy English. LOL
This is an English class you will write papers. Her papers are perfecctly spaced out. She gives you plenty of time to write for each assignment and doesn't expect miracles over night like some English teachers do. I absolutely hate writing papers but thoughly enjoyed her class. I reccommend her class to any student that despices English.
ENH 110 with her was the worst class i ever took. She was incredibly rude, never gave people a chance. Very opinionated and wasn't very open minded. I've had a 4.0 my whole life, first class i ever got a C in. You have to read the stories more than once because all tests and papers are based on specific parts. Very boring. Very hard to please.
She is AWESOME, one of the GREATEST instructors ever. Loved her class. She's very helpful and you'll learn so much from her and her teaching. Work hard, follow the direction, ask for help and you'll succeed. She makes every precise, straight to the point and will definitely help you understand the difficult stuffs. Take her! You won't regret.
She was useless, most boring class ever, never want to take a class with her again. Her grading was quite annoying never made any sense. this class was pointless!
Interesting class. Must stay on top of deadlines and read the stories. I loved the open lectures and debates on the stories. Strict professor but enjoys the subject and student participation.
It’s the 2nd time I took her class and Prof. Simpson proved again she’s one of the best. The class is fun n interesting, discussion is open-minded n meaningful. She does not babysit you, but always directs you n helps you out with your difficulties. If you truly want to learn something, she is the one you go to. The greatest instructor ever.
An amazing person and professor. Always willing to help.
She's boring, extremely boring!! You have to force yourself to go to class, and watching those minutes slowly march is true torture. You get lots of work, and you learn a lot, just wish we met only once a week to turn in assignments and get new ones!
She has her own textbook that you NEED to have for the course. You'll be using Canvas a bit, but it's not too extensive. There is 4 core writing assignments you'll be working on throughout the year. In sum I think she's an excellent pick :) She's also got a fiery passion to her, if you like that in a person.
Worst teacher I ever had! She canceled two classes fifteen minutes before by posting on canvas! Last two classes were canceled because we finished early. Prepare to study on your own because she does not give much information. You will have no idea what are your standings are throughout the semester. She requires printing a lot of hard copies
She is hateful and very critical of others. Her condescension and rude judgments awards her no respect in my eyes. I could do without the comments under her shrill voice but overall she was a mediocre professor. She requires you to do most of the work on your own which leaves you feeling lost most of the time. Spreads herself too thin maybe.
She doesn't explain clearly what you need to do. She just gives you the assignment papers and makes you read them and then write about them and when you bring in your assignment, everything is wrong. Expect low grades because she said herself she rarely gives a good grade. She doesn't even answer your questions when you try asking them.
Professor Simpson, in my eyes, is really amazing. She does have a tendency to be critical. As a teacher she is awesome. She gives you the chance for help and improvement non stop. YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING. This is not a procrastination class. If you want to do good, you will. Long papers, but they help you become better. An expected college course.
She is very much an "English teacher". Meaning her way or the highway. She was very disrespectful to students at times and her papers are graded on her own bias. She definitely knows her stuff though.
She doesn't understand that we have other classes that also give out homework. Made my semester a stressful hell. Very critical, not much feed back.
I'd say she's a good professor if you are there to learn but if you're there for the credit and a decent grade I'd say pick another class...
Professor Simpson's class was okay, but I didn't really like it because I don't like English classes. For an English class, I guess it was okay... I've had much worse.
Loved this literature course! One of my favorite professors ever. Willing to work with you and even proof read papers before submitting. Genuinely cares about her students. Highly recommend!
She gives a lot of essays and grades very hard. She also does not help when you ask. I do not recommend her at all. She also makes you work really hard but does not take it into consideration when grading.
Elizabeth Simpson is an ENG102 professor and I'm taking her class as an honors class. She believes honors students should work harder so her "tax dollars are put to good use." She can be quite rude to students and in some cases singles them out in class. Incredibly tedious class. For an English class, this will occupy almost all of your time.
Pretty average professor. There is a Lot of homework which you may get kicked out of class for not doing even if it is irrelevant to what we do in class that day which doesn't seem quite right when paying for her class and having to buy a textbook for the semester that she created instead of just renting one from Amazon. She's average.
She will never let anything slide. She wants everything exactly the way she wants. Be ready to write a lot of papers and you WILL get dropped if you skip 2 classes and YOU WILL GET A TARDE FOR SHOWING UP HALF A MINUTE LATE!!!! She created her own textbook so good luck with that!
I had Simpson as an ENG102 prof and I hated her at the beginning of the year. She has kind of an attitude and I swear she was out to get me! Kind of a hard grader and there are a lot of papers(for those of you who don't like to do work lol). The class ended up not being as bad as I made it out to be though
She grades her way and you have to try and read her mind. If you try hard and do all of the work you will pass. Im not good at english and I got an A but also put tons of hours in to that to get that grade. She is a very hard grader! Need to be good at english or you will have trouble!
Mrs. Simpson was an amazing professor. The textbook is written by her and is thankfully not pricey. She was extremely helpful throughout the whole semester. As long as you take your time and do all the work the best you can, you'll be fine!
Simpson isn't a terrible teacher, she just expects everything the way she wants it and can lack empathy at times but she expects you to do your work without excuses. She don't answer questions very well just tells you that other students have found something and leaves you hanging or tells you to ask the librarian. Not an awful teacher.
Textbook is written by her and outlines everything you need. Pay attention in class, take advantage of office hours, use online tutoring services and you should be fine. Don't take things personally. She will call you out if you are being disrespectful.
Brought her political views into my papers. Is very sarcastic and likes to make certain students look stupid in front of the whole class. Grades super tough for a 102 class. Would not recommend or ever take again.
Doesn't consider Google Scholar, an educational database, to be reliable.
If you want an easy A or are immature and fragile this is not the class for you. The professor demands respect - a good attitude will take you far. Asking questions outside of class helps a lot and she actually goes over your paper with you if you go into office hours. Take reviews with a grain of salt and decide for yourself.
Mrs Simpson is a great teacher! There is a lot of work, but if you communicate with her and show her that you are trying and really want to succeed, she will be more than willing to help you out. She is very specific in the way she grades, so take her advice and her corrections and you'll do great!
Her knowledge is good, and I think it was an easy A if you did the work which was sometimes simple sometimes tedious. However, she has a habit of calling out students, making them feel like they really screwed up. Ask her a private question and she'll answer loud so everyone can hear. If you can put up with that, then take the class.
After experiencing a semester with Professor Simpson, I can honestly say that she is one of the best English teachers that I have ever had. We wrote a total of five essays throughout the span of the semester and she gave students more than enough time to complete them. Overall, I believe that I became a better writer because of her course.
Elizabeth Simpson's English class is quite a tedious class to take. Be aware that if you are the type of person who takes criticism easily, then this is the class for you. If you have a busy schedule, then this is not the class for you. She will heavily criticized your work and your choices.
I am taking Professor Simpsons class as a first year experience english college class and I can successfully say that she is the only reason I absolutely hate college. She fits in better as a high school teacher. she is inconsiderate and if you make a mistake or make a comment she thinks is stupid, she will attack you in front of the whole class.
If you don't want to work, don't take this class. I took this class for honors credit, and it wasn't anything harder than I thought it would be. If you don't like discussions, don't take this class. SERIOUSLY. At least one discussion a week. 5 books were read over the semester-book report due after each book. Tedious but not terrible.
She can come off a bit rough around the edges, but she provides you with all the resources needed to pass her class and do well. If you put in effort for her class, she will put effort in for you. The textbook is cheap which is a huge plus. She gives plenty of time for papers, and if you manage your time wisely, this class should be good!
Pro. Simpson is a good professor but shes very tough. Her grading is very extensive and shell comment on the littlest of errors on your essays. But I feel stronger in writing after taking her 101 class. She might make you go insane a little but at the end of the class when you get your portfolio back, its very rewarding to see how far you grew.
The classroom setting is one of "teaching" (i.e. lecturing, giving assignments) and not "learning" (i.e. answering questions, helping students understand concepts). She is very disrespectful to the students, and makes a habit of belittling people in front of the class.
Professor Simpson likes to make you feel like youre stupid in front of the entire class and its a daily thing for everyone. Shes a tough grader and will comment on every tiny mistake. If you asl for help, she just copys and pastes the first comment she made. Really rude person and not helpful at all. I really regret taking her class.
Very closed minded teacher, if it's not her idea she won't like it. Unnecessary amount of work. Very tough grader. Absolutely awful teacher.
Her instructors are clear and makes it possible to get an A. However, she grades tough and makes you feel stupid with her feedback. I took her class during the summer last year and was given a lot of essays, but managed to get an A. Just figure out what she likes to help get the A...
No matter how hard of work or effort you put in there is always many things wrong with your work that she will point out. She is very particular and her feedback does not really help, if you don't know what she wants or likes you will not get an A in the class. Wish I would've switched to another professor.
Hands down one of my favorite teachers! I learned a lot from her. She made me recognize just how talented a writer I'd become if I remained dedicated and unafraid to take risk. Would take her class over and over again.
She's a tough professor that wants very specific things. However, you will grow as a writer after completing her class. It's not easy and you have to work for it. She also writes her own textbook, but all the assignments are clearly explained within it. If you're looking to improve your English and critical thinking skills, take her class.
Insane grading scale Doesnt read essays thouroghly
This was my hardest class this year! She is the toughest grader!!!!! If you are taking more than 3 classes, do not take her class! She thinks that this is the only class that matters. There is no positive feedback as well and her course is very intense. Get ready to write a five-page paper each week.
No reason a Eng101 class should be this difficult. Treats you like you are in an honors class
I took ENG 101 as honors, would not do again. I feel like it was way too much work for the class, but she is really nice and understanding though. I received an A, so in the end it is all good.
Don't take this class.
A lot of writing but that's expected from this type of class. She always gives really good feedback. A lot of discussion boards with peer review type of work so if you're not into that, you would hate this class. She's easy to get ahold of and she's understanding.
She's Borderline rude when giving feedback. I would never take this class again. She is one of the most annoying professors you could have at MCC. I would jump off a cliff before taking anything with her again.
The teacher goes out of her way to prove your paper isnt right if you have an opposing argument that doesnt online with her views. I also felt personal attacked by some of her feedback. Most of the assignments grading criteria are unclear and need to be found in announcements. Im disappointed in the hiring standards of MCC.
Prof is an expert at teaching the research paper process. She provides a structured plan for achieving a successful final product. The class is hard but she's available to students the whole way. She's open to any viewpoint that can be supported with scholarly info. If you like knowing exactly what is expected of you, this is the prof for you.
Professor Simpson was a very difficult professor but I learned a lot from this class. Get ready to write.
If you took AP lang or AP lit in high school you are very prepared for this class. I took honors ENG101 with professor Simpson and she was amazing. She gives good feedback on your essays and grades papers clearly by noting all the things that she considered when grading your paper.
Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience with this professor. She made me and several of my classmates feel and look dumb in front of the entire class. She will rarely be satisfied with your work. While the work is doable, there is so much of it that it interferes with other classes. I do not recommend at all.
While she knows how to teach the curriculum very well, she is very passive aggressive with students. Is rarely satisfied with answers to class discussion questions and acts like students (most of whom are new to college) should know what is going on. Did not feel comfortable asking or answering questions. Taken as an honors, annoying extra workload
If you purely look at the curriculum, the class, assignments, and books were amazing. I love writing and have personal writing projects, at times I was frustrated with the amount we had to write to answer the questions fully. By the end, I was burnt out thankfully the final was 3x easier than any previous assignment, so that helped.
A lot of work but overall her feedback really helped and the structure of the class was really easy to follow, I took her class for ENG101 and ENG102, and I thought she taught everything very clearly. There is a lot of papers but you get a journal at the beginning of the course that lays it all out and provides everything you need.
She only posted assignments in announcements and doesn't do modules so it was always hard to find assignments and any feedback she gave she said go tutoring and when I did they didn't even understand why she would grade the way she does. Her feedback was just overall unhelpful
First this class felt like a 300s class. The assignments are long, and the grading is meticulous. The feedback was awesome! It was constructive, and after applying the feedback from the professor I always ended up with a higher grade. Use the brain fuse tutors and the writing center! This class takes effort be warned lazy students.
