She is very nice person she does get carried away sometimes if u dont agree with her. Overall she is cool
Prof Sonnier is very nice and cares a lot about her students! She stay up late to reply e-mails for her students. Her lecture is a bit boring, but as long as you go to her classes...you will get an B or above. Her midterm and final are not hard at all!!!!!! Her paper is easy, too!!! I wish all my professors are as easy as her.
She is an easy grader. She cares for the students and is very understanding. You don't need to read textbook assignments because she gives notes and explains it in class. She alsp tells you exactly what you need to know for the midterm.
Took the online course, avoid it like the plague. She didn't design the course, and she's doing her best, but it is a ridiculous amount of work compared to the actual class. Her TA was very unfair. I participated more than one of my friends in discussion and had more informed posts, but I got a lower score because she knows my friend.
She's fun and seems to get along with all students pretty well. Her lecture method is friendly, relaxing and encourages discussing.
Though she is easy and grades fairly, she is extremely unorganized. Lectures and presentation materials are very unclear; they are needed for the exams. Multiple choice questions with 2 essays on both exams. If you want to learn something, take another teacher. Also, she blames everyone else for her mistakes.
Prof. Sonnier is a very good teacher that cares care about her student. She knows her subject and was a pleasure to be around. However, I believe that if she improved on her organization skills and took some technology course she would be an outstanding instructor. If you enroll in any of her courses you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommended.
Very Helpful. Very instructional.
Great professor. Fun and creative with her approach to the materials.
she was an awsome teacher!!!
Her voice sounds like squeeky clean dishes rubbing against dry fingers. She yelled at a student for disagreeing with her and remarked that she would like to see him drown in a flood. She's very disorganized and extremely subjective. You're better off taking another teacher unless you want to sit around forever doing nothing while she grades papers
Dr. Sonnier Bus 186 is so unorganized, and her explanation is not very clear. But it?s the EASIEST class I ever had, even easier than some of my P.E. class. For summer 08 our assignment includes 2 short term papers (2 pages each), 1 mid term (multiple choices & T/F), 8 pages group research and presentation project, and 1 cumulative final. I never r
I thought the class was very interesting and fun. She explains everything in a way that is accessible to students. The drowining comment was in regards to a student who did not believe in global warming and she was trying to bring the issue to them at a more personal level. I would take the class over again!
I'm taking her online class as an elective to graduate. Let me tell you, her online class is ridiculously cluttered. Probably 75% of the content on there could be taken off w/out consequence. She of course is liberal as most prof. are, and she finds ways to inject her viewpoints needlessly into class. I can't recommend this class...sorry.
Nice teacher, totally easy class but I don't feel like a learned anything. She goes off topic pretty much every second. She hate Republicans and lets it be known and seems to always go into politics and try to connect them with the class and always has to say something about sex. nice but weird, overal pretty easy though
Screechy and annoying
I took her online class. I had zero interest level prior to the class, but after the class I thought a learned a lot. All the materials are online and I did not use the textbook that much. She uses all current cases for the discussions. Overall a good class, you can easily get an A.
I took this class over winter session and it was a lot of fun. All the topics are related to recent events and she is extremely helpful. There were 2 papers and one group project, a midterm and a final. Workload was manageable and she never strayed from the syllabus. I would definitely recommend her!
I took her class during winter session and loved it. She made class very interesting. Papers are 2-3 pages long and are based off of current events. Midterm & final are straight from her lectures...she'll let you know what specifically to study. Never opened the book once. :) Definitely recommend.
I loved her class..... She is the best .... I took PHIL 134 ..
Took her for an online class - PHIL 134. She was very quick to respond, available online during critical times like deadline nights. Seemed genuinely interested in students learning, very understanding of life events / time conflicts, adjusted deadlines as reasonably needed! She is great if you are willing to try! Tests can be a little tough.
I honestly believe that this teacher is insane. She is fairly easy though, she will provide outlines of what she wants from you and hold your hand through the essay and presentation processes. EASY grading system, very low point values allows you to fail a few assignments and still come out with a B or A-. She also brings food to class. :D
i loved her! the class i took was a muse class, DEATH LORE, which is self explanatory. her class revolves around powerpoints, so pay attention! shes very lenient on her grading and scores. she may seem kind of out there at first, but she's actually really nice and funny. she also brings snacks to every class, so that's a plus. i recommend taking her =)
My first online class, took her class online, and I love it! I was not sure if I would learn a lot because it's online, but she gives you notes that are easy to understand and has you do case studies in groups. The groups can be a pain if you have members that never do their work. But overall easy and you learn a lot!
She is a very flexible teacher. Took her online class, phil061, and I must say it was one of the easiest ever. You don't really have to buy a book cuz she provides notes. The submissions are not that difficult too! Most of it is group work and you just need to stick to the guidelines and notes provided by her. an easy class overall - 5/5
This online class was pretty easy. She provides all the stuff you will need to do the work (no textbook!). Study the notes and you'll pass the exams. Just pray that you will get good teammates because most of the work is group work.
Sometimes your like HUH oh ok then HUh listen if there is a way easier class take that. Its not hard but it takes some thinking in this class. When ur explaining to students what to do online you know people r having difficulties.
She says the randomest things. Her class is made up of powerpoints that aren't very organized. She brings snacks to every class, overall she's a nice teacher who cares about her students. Expect one project to be going to the movies. Highly Recommended.
I'm surprised when I see so many good posts about this professor. She talked to my class like we were dumb and ignorant, and laughed if someone got something wrong during a presentation. She's funny and says a lot of random things, but she's too lenient and only about 10 people ever showed up to class. I wasn't very motivated to go to this class.
I had a tough time getting started in the online class, but once I figured it out/her style, it was no problem. Lots of writing and most of it is group work. Be prepared to have lots of discussions with your classmates. Good class, I learned a lot.
This was the first online class that required group discussion instead of working on your own. Weird at first. Be a leader with your group as some members have a tendency to not be timely in order to get your papers done. Professor Sonnier is great if topics are unclear. The exams were hard, but handing in all the papers can get you an A.Take her
BEST TEACHER AT SJSU HANDS DOWN. TAKE HER!!!!!!!
Worst philosophy teacher ever. A lot of the material she offers to the class is incorrect. She is uninteresting and her powerpoint presentations are disorganized. She cancelled Thursday classes because she isn't a morning person. No self respecting philosophy major should take her. The school that granted her a PhD should lose accreditation.
This is the worst teacher I have had here at SJSU in my 4 years here. She forgot to administer SOTEs and only has one class per week because she is not a morning person. With the cost of education climbing higher and higher, teachers, if anything, should not be canceling classes just because they want a few hours more sleep. Do NOT take her if you
Do NOT take her if you want to learn ANYTHING. Her power points are poorly presented and she never stands up to lecture, a lot of the information she teaches is also false as well. She swears a lot in class and makes backhanded remarks toward the students. She is inconsistent in her way of giving instructions, and she gives poor instructions.
She is not meant to be an in-class prof. She was terrible, her lectures were disorganized and difficult to follow. You will learn next to nothing. She made insulting comments to students. She also cancelled more than 50% of class. She tends to take negative comments personally. There is a lot of group work and next to no reading.
I took the online version of the class and it was super fun. I got luck with my group because they actually wanted to pass the class. Key to passing the class: team work, man up and don't be petty, and post a lot of intelligent discussions on D2L.
I'm a CS major and am busy taking physics, math, and CS courses. Many, many general ed courses are time burglars; not this one. This class is perfect. It's low maintenance, satisfies both major and GE, and super easy. Read her notes, make some on-line posts on time and boom you get an "A". Easy class, nice teacher, low key and it's a nice break.
I didn't like the teacher at all, she really bugged the crap out of me to be honest. The class is a little bit of work, but she grades so easy, it was such an easy A. She's really lenient on due dates too, her voice and personality is just FRUSTRATING.
Class was a waste of time although we only had to go once a week. Should be online. Just go over powerpoints. Hate the group project movie but in the end was in an ok group so it worked out in the end.
I took the online class, and the professor graded really easy. It's an easy A, but she will tell you how terrible you are. The entire class is group work except the midterm, and final which is great, but everything you post she will find something wrong with it.
Easy A. With that said, i never bought any book. the whole class is group work. mid term and final are cake. although she claims her D2L is simplified it can be hard to navigate to what she wants you to write on. i only logged on once a week and assignments were about once every two weeks.
Great professor, took the online class and was pretty easy considering it was all group work. Highly recommend taking her. Fairly easy grader, has assignments do every other week. Allows you to make up discussions at the end of the semesters if you didn't do well the first time
Professor Sonnier is really clear and nice. Her notes are very detailed, and the assignments have clear instructions. She sometimes extends deadlines when she sees that the students are taking a little longer to complete the assignments. Overall, professor Sonnier is great!
Easy professor. Do all the work and you will get an easy A. Extend deadline a lot of time when you need it. Easy grader, would recommend to take her again.
Most of the assignments were group. Gives a lot extension when needed. Clear instructions, so if ou follow them its an easy A. Lets you redo some assignments if you didn't do too well.
Easy class, gives lots of extensions (almost every assignment's due date was extended). Except for exams, all group work. Shes noting to worry about, your group is. Easiness of the class depends heavily on group.
This prof is incredibly rude and actually rather mean. I was very taken aback by some of the comments she made during the semester. Needless to say the class was easy. It's an online course and very convenient. But if you can, just avoid talking to her. Incredibly rude and mean.
Easy class. Her response can be rude and mean. Discouraging if anything. :(
We had an open question forum on which students could ask her questions throughout the semester. 90% of her answers are passive aggressive remarks toward the students. Rather than answering a question, she would often say something like, "I don't understand, did you not see so and so earlier? Have you not been looking at so and so?!" Insulting.
Very easy and very fun. HOT
Possibly the worst class I have ever taken at SJSU with possibly the worst professor at SJSU. She seemed to come up with things on the spot as if it was her first time ever teaching the class. The work was a joke and her assignments had nothing to do with the course. Avoid if possible.
This is an easy online upper division GE (area v) Group assignments throughout the semester, so if you have a good group then you'll get A's and B's on everything. BUT there's always that one teacher who takes FOREVER to return grades and she is IT.
Doesn''t provide feedback if entire group chooses THE WRONG THEORY.
Group work throughout semester. Pray you get into a good group. Must post on discussion forum to get points. The more you post, the more points you get. Doesn't like google docs... WILL DOCK POINTS FOR GOOGLE DOCS. Post in the forum, trust me. NOT SPECIFIC. Unless she says use google doc, just post in the discussion. DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.
I never write a review but after reading some of the reviews for this professor, I thought I would chime in. I'll start off by saying that I am a complete slacker and that I took this class over summer. With that in mind, I passed with a fun and easy A. I thought her comments were helpful and the assignments were intellectually stimulating.
Her first feedback may cause you to feel intimated and that the class is hard. But if you learn to just use her feedback and give the answer she wants, the class becomes easy. However, keep in mind to not get carried away and stick to facts. there is a midterm test and a final.
Took it online, midterm and final tests are very straightforwards. The multiple writing assignments in the class, not so much. She show a poor understanding of philosophy, her belief on whatever you're writing about is "law", and if you don't agree you're wrong. Just make your paper say whatever she wants to hear and you'll get an A with no effort.
You basically learn 7 ethical theories in depth and apply them to tech articles. The problem is they overlap and are subject to interpretation. It's TOO easy to choose the wrong one -- they are different twists on 'do the right thing'. I had an A+ until I choose the wrong theory. She gives tons of feedback and puts a lot into her students learning.
Worst professor I've had at SJSU... rude to students when we just ASK FOR HELP. When I asked for feedback she still wasn't clear. Literally the worst class I've had to take even though I got an A.. she made a girl cry. OVER AN ONLINE CLASS. Yeah no..
Online class. She is HARSH. Wouldn't have taken this class if it weren't the only online class for Area V. There's quite a bit of work; it's confusing in the beginning, but once you get the hang of it it's fine. I'm expecting an A in this class. She isn't open to other answers other than what she believes. Would not recommend or take again. 2/10
You get assigned a discussion group, with which you will work to write weekly case study essays about current ethical issues in tech. Instead of trying to apply any opinionated thought, just regurgitate lecture material and you will get through fine. Might seem like a lot of work at first, but due to the group it is very manageable week to week.
Harsh class to take. Did learn about interesting cases that are currently going on, but you need to arrive at her answer. At times she can be helpful, but if your team doesn't understand something she may be harsh and cold in her responses. In other areas she can give good feedback and help the team arrive at the answer she wants.
By far has been the rudest professor I've ever had. You get put into a groups and for the whole semester work on case studies. The group work was easy and if you keep up with it you can get a A. However, when you don't answer a case correctly she is RUDE an docs off so many points. She doesn't even offer help! She should NOT be a professor!
Mostly group postings with reading an article and doing a small response and analysis to it. Does not take even an hour in most cases BUT if you get lazy and misunderstand the article you will lose lots of points. Midterm/Final rely on easy to read ppts/pdfs. She sometimes tells you what way to argue on a paper. Easy A if you follow directions.
Took over winter, easy A. Some people say she doesn't like if you give your own opinion and she'll give you a bad grade for that but I never experienced that with her. It was a really interesting class, a good amount of reading, but nothing too difficult.
Great class. Her deadlines were clear and she just wants to get you thinking and give your opinion. Everything is done as group except midterm/final. I thought my writings were not strong but I got an A on every assignment. Midtern and final not bad. I just opened all pdfs and did a Ctrl F to help find the answer. You do not have to buy a book!!!
This professor is very rude she's not a nice person at all. She has said multiple rude things to me for just asking about my grades. She makes it very clear if your writing sucks. I would never take her AGAIN.
Dr. Sonnier disclaims that the coursework here is unique, so it is somewhat difficult to grasp until you work through your first project. Most of the activity is team assignments. This course will challenge you to think critically, and apply normative theories to contemporary issues with technology. Experience in online classes will help you.
She was great! As long as you participate and do the work you will pass. Easy grader. Papers are all in a group. Midterm and final exam are super easy.
I asked her a question for clarification and she responded in a very rude manner, like I was stupid. Would not recommend this class, even though it wasn't that hard. I agree with some of the others, she is the rudest professor I've ever had.
Her class isn't hard, but she's very particular about following her outline. Her feedback/comments are rude and harsh.
Exams are EZ and coursework all you do is read a case, apply an ethical theory with your group. If its wrong she will give u harsh feedback but still give you full credit. All you have to do is revise. Youll learn in this class & guranteed easy A, shes just harsh. But to be honest, I dont mind if someone spits in my face as long as I get an A.
She gives feedback that sometimes harsh and sometimes insightful, but this class is easygoing. Do the work and the readings and you'll land an A easily. If you give wrong answers, she'll point it out but still gives full credit.
This class is about critical thinking about technology issue. If you get into a good group, you will have a good grade at the end. If not, I am sorry because this is online class, and most of the assignments require group work. Professor usually gives feedback, so we can rewrite if needed. Dont be shocked the way she comments, just think positively
Very frustrating. She's super specific about things that really don't matter. I didn't feel I learned much philosophy. Unclear feedback, but did put effort into the class. The entire course is pretty much all group projects, which is annoying.
I liked taking her PHIL 134 online course. You have to participate along with assigned team members almost every week, due some essays together, some individual, along with one midterm and one final. All things considered, the course was straightforward and easy. I would take her again if I could.
She's oddly specific about what she wants us to say in our group discussions. If you think differently than her, she'll give you really harsh/rude comment, but still full credit. It's hard to communicate with her, so I gave up on it and just do as she says without thinking.
we have a case analysis group assignment about every 2 weeks, each person does research and writes about 1 page single space. flexible grader. pushes her ideals on you though. she is very democratic and actually gave an assignment saying we need to critique a political paper. grades harsher if you disagree with democratic views of paper
Dr. Sonnier's class isn't for everyone. Its almost all group assignments. There isn't a book, but you will be assigned a lot of reading. Despite this, I liked the class a lot. Dr. Sonnier's feedback can be harsh, but it was always helpful for me. She grades very fairly, so you can succeed even if you get a bad group. Just follow the directions!!
Mostly a group discussion class. You are put into a group of around 6-7 people and are given a prompt to discuss every week. The prompts are usually current events. There are some readings that you must relate the current events to but overall its pretty simple and personally I enjoyed the class.
One of the easiest and most interesting classes. No meeting for class, just do your part of your group discussion (report), and take her feedback into account, and you'll do fine. Discussions are easy and the midterm and finals are also easy. Just have decent grammar/punctuation and don't cheat or copy ideas from the internet/friends.
SUPER clear with expectations. Literally lays out outlines for you to follow. Mostly group discussions, read a case and split up the discussion work. Just follow the outlines, it's super easy, and be genuine with what you write. Her responses are interesting to read. Any quizzes are very easy as well, has very thorough readings and notes.
Class is a bunch of either personal or group essays where she literally gives you the template and exams straight off of powerpoints. The readings are her summaries of the topics/theories which are very easy to read and direct. No fluff which I greatly appreciate. When I messaged her she was incredibly kind and nice! Great professor.
The class was almost all group work, which was a little intimidating at first. However, the way the grading worked meant that most of your grade came from your individual contributions instead of relying on the group, so it's not that bad. Follow her feedback and the outlines and you should have no problems.
Her feedback may be tough sometimes, but overall, the class is really chill. Take her along with hard classes to balance out the workload!
Very clear what she wants. Follow instructions and feedback and you'll get an A. Midterm and Final objective exams are pretty easy. Midterm and Final mini-essays are short and not too hard.
This was probably the easiest class I have ever taken in college. She is very clear about what she wants and will let you know otherwise. Class is very organized and workload is manageable. The only downside is that you need to work in a group, and it can be sometimes challenging to work with some lazy students in your group. Take her if you can
Never responded to my emails..
This class is an easy A. This is a great class if you want to take something mangeable to help boost your GPA. The workload is not difficult at all and pretty interesting. It should not take you over an hour a week and usually does not take long at all. Just do the assignments how she wants them and you should get a 100% every time.
More than half of the work in her class are group projects. The assignments are a cumulative of papers written in discussion post format. You and your assigned team switch roles every week and contribute to the paper accordingly. Her feedback can seem rude, but she's pretty straightforward/ easy, just follow her rubric and feedback.
Professor isn't bad but her canvas home page/layout and notes are atrocious. She doesn't have modules but rows of links on a table of pictures. Notes are all over the place. Bolded. Red. Caps. Difficult to digest. ,Group work most of the time. Only sucks if your teammates suck.
As a CS major, this is one of the easier classes at SJSU, nothing too hard. Pretty easy to do, the assignments.
Be aware, 134 is all and only group projects. As someone who likes to work ahead this slowed me down and made it so hard to work. Group of 7 people on two different projects for about 12 weeks. She does a great job breaking down the work but the instructions are SO confusing, times change often. she fails to see your point and makes you rewrite
I took her for Bus 186 and had to drop because the Canvas format was just too confusing. No communication from this professor after attempts to reach her. I was unsure what to do each week as the Canvas layout was not comprehensible. Wanted this class to work out but it is causing stress trying to decipher what to do each week. Would not recommend.
Professor wasn't here the whole semester because of hospital procedures and the substituting professors made the class easy grading-wise. Their assignments are kinda confusing and the material doubly so, but not very time-consuming. It's mostly group projects and 3 individual assignments.
RIP. Professor Sonnier passed away recently.
This is a fairly easy course with mostly group projects. While the instructions can be confusing, the workload is manageable. Unstuck AI was a helpful study tool alongside the course materials.
